Abusive User[edit source]

https://speculativeevolution.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Pterophyllum

Also abusive behaviour in the wiki that they changed to here:

https://speculativeevolution.fandom.com/wiki/Special:Contributions/Spinosaurus111

I already WARNED YOU about this, yet you refused to listen. Please ban this user, they have a history of abuse as shown above

I would like to add that Pterophyllum used slurs when banning me from the Miraheze version of the wiki.

Controversial Media Bureaucrat[edit source]

Hey, my Controversial Media wiki problem isn’t resolved. I know you told me it was, but I don’t have bureaucrat. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MoistyTIT (talkcontribs) 16:28, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

(talk page stalker) Hello MoistyTIT, the bureaucrat group was created successfully by the Void on mh:controversialmedia wiki but you weren't added to the group. If you are the legitimate owner of the wiki, any steward will be able to add you to the group. But be careful in future! And please ask at only one place. It would have been better to ask such things on the SN. And don't forget to sign your posts. Thanks, --Mazzaz (talk) 17:35, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've restored the permission, judging from the logs, they were the original bureaucrat. It appears that deleting the group removes all members of that group, which did not used to be a thing (I believe). -- Void Whispers 17:53, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just a question[edit source]

Would a negative reception wiki about companies count as a violation of the Content Policy? Musicismylife (talk) 09:50, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's very unlikely. The content policy specifies a group of people so if you insulted the people that work there then that may be an issue. The policy allows for justified claims though so if you can back up why you think that then you would also be fine. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 09:53, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Libelous content in particular can be a problem, so a wiki based on negative content should have a minimum standard against just attacking. Lacking this and pages clearly going against the policy without any reasonable administrator effort if they are present are (in my mind) grounds to make a report per the policy. --Raidarr (talk) 10:01, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh. Well, there's this wiki called Horrible Companies Wiki and I'm thinking that various companies and studios should go there because on mh:awfulmovies:Awful Movies Wiki and mh:terribletvshows:Terrible Shows & Episodes Wiki, there are some pages for companies/studios that make TV shows and movies, and the only way to decide which wiki they will go on is to choose randomly, and I don't think that's very fair, so I think the pages should be imported to Horrible Companies Wiki. Musicismylife (talk) 20:59, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Which specific wiki they fit best on is a matter for local wiki teams to agree on not Stewards. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 21:06, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What I mean is, would that be acceptable? Musicismylife (talk) 05:34, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As you know fully well, the wiki you linked is part of what is called Qualitipedia. As you also know full well, Horrible Companies Wiki is not. The pages should not be 'moved' from one administration to another, but if you wish to develop HCW, you can duplicate the pages there with attribution. Frankly however, HCW appears to be a rather dead wiki and there is nothing wrong in my opinion with how the pages are currently laid out if they are relevant and approved by local admins. What is acceptable to local admins should be discussed with local admins. It is not proper to go above their heads to Miraheze Meta over a strictly local topic. I write in firm terms because with regards to what I just said, there is a rather common trend at play that should be avoided. --Raidarr (talk) 08:22, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, as you said, I do know that, but I would like to contribute to Horrible Companies Wiki and hopefully adopt it. Also even if the wiki is somewhat dead, it can still become active again. Musicismylife (talk) 08:38, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In that case, you could remake those pages there and they would (probably) be quite topical. Ideally not duplicated word for word, but if they're lifted then you could do it with attribution. Unfortunately contributing to the wiki actually makes it impossible to adopt the usual way, meaning you'll have to host a local election and get everyone, if anyone in on the process if they are active there. After some time passes you can present the results to the Stewards and you'll have effectively adopted it. --Raidarr (talk) 21:58, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Question (2)[edit source]

How do you rename a wiki? Musicismylife (talk) 04:58, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please file a Phabricator task if you want the subdomain changed. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 11:41, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I wasn't talking about a subdomain. I was talking about the title itself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Musicismylife (talkcontribs)

Musicismylife, if you are referring to Sitename, that can be changed in your wiki's Special:ManageWiki, if I am not wrong. But if you find you can't to change it, open a Phabricator task. --Mazzaz (talk) 07:09, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Okay. And what about merging wikis? Musicismylife (talk) 22:07, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I need a mini help[edit source]

Hello. What happened here, the visual editor is on, but, it doesn't show up. How can I solve this? YellowFrogger (talk) 04:48, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

YellowFrogger, the preferred place to ask these type of questions is CN. --Mazzaz (talk) 07:13, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Mazzaz Thanks for the invitation, but I don't edit there, everyone keeps ignoring me. YellowFrogger (talk) 07:37, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
An obscure talk page isn't going to be easier. Also, I don't see that you've recently edited on the CN at all. I've seen you edit the Stewards' noticeboard with interwiki requests, but parsing those is subject to the same issue as making a request of Stewards anywhere - they are quite busy and take a while to catch up. --Raidarr (talk) 11:43, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Try using Special:ManageWiki/namespaces and cycling the option to enable VisualEditor in that namespace. Even if it is currently disabled, disable it, save, then re-enable it. -- Void Whispers 16:54, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

interwiki admin request for onibuswiki, svonibuswiki and esonibuswiki[edit source]

Hello, how are you? You are the only active steward who is helping. If you help with this, I'll be very grateful.

Can I have interwiki-admin for onibus.miraheze.org, svonibus.miraheze.org, and esonibus.miraheze.org?, there's no community

Criteria:

  • Hold bureaucrat rights on the local wiki: yes
  • Have had a Miraheze account for (a) at least two (2) weeks prior to requesting or (b) the two (2) month global user longevity requirement above: Registered: 2020-10-06
  • Have made either (a) 500 edits on the local wiki where requested or (b) the 1,000 global edit requirement above: Total edits: 22,400
  • Comply with any additional local rules governing the selection of local interwiki administrators

Thanks. YellowFrogger (talk) 23:03, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

warning, very beware!!!!!!!!!![edit source]

I discover that you don't need to be an interwiki admin to put interwiki links on a page. For example: I put this link [[En:Apache Vip IV]] on this page and it stayed there in other languagues, the word "English" (because a steward (I think it was the Dmehus) put an interwiki prefix in english for me 1 year ago)

See this page to see the interwikis prefixs: https://onibus.miraheze.org/wiki/Especial:Interwikis.

Can you put this link: https://svonibus.miraheze.org/ as prefix language "sv - svenska" and this https://esonibus.miraheze.org/ as language prefix "es - español"? Thanks.

And on other wikis you do the same (for example: on svenska version, you put an interwiki prefix there (on all, got it)) YellowFrogger (talk) 23:13, 23 September 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Holding onto CheckUser rights[edit source]

Hi, I removed your CheckUser rights from loginwiki as it seems you have had these assigned for a months. Please note it not policy for Stewards to be able to retain CheckUser rights outside of need and necessity to execute checks. Please ensure to add and remove the rights after each usage. Why is my wiki closed due to inactivity?[edit source]

Hi. This was due to the rebuild after the server migration that Miraheze performed yesterday. You must reopen the wiki. --YellowFrogger (Talk) 22:21, 15 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I saw you saying the same thing on another steward talk page. I recommend that you speak on some noticeboard. --YellowFrogger (Talk) 14:03, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Alright, I was just confused on where to seek help with the problem I am having. Peakbread (talk) 14:17, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
When I click the noticeboard, where do I go to post my problem? Peakbread (talk) 14:18, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This noticeboard scope business is annoying, even I'm not perfect at it. Even I post out of scope sometimes. But since your question is something stewards cannot resolve, I would recomend you to speak on the community noticeboard, if I'm not mistaken. --YellowFrogger (Talk) 14:40, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Void-bot[edit source]

Hi Void. You may already know that Void-bot (talkcontribslogs) has been inactive for over a year, do you still need the bot flag? There is also a discussion at Meta:CPO#Inactive bots in which you may like to participate. Thanks, Magogre (talk) 05:17, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hmm, that is an interesting idea, as while the bot is technically active, there is nothing it is doing that should be touching meta. In terms of that at least, it probably doesn't need the rights, though I'm inclined to leave it unless policy changes. I may also use the bot for some purposes at some point, but I'm unlikely to work on it until at least May. -- Void Whispers 03:43, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The IP that attacked Wikilouco and Destruipedia continues[edit source]

I did contacted void but did not reply QwertyMan'65 (talk) 07:21, 27 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
QwertyMan'65, it looks like that IP range has been globally soft rangeblocked, meaning you should be unaffected from editing on these IP ranges while logged in, as I previously articulated and speculated here. The only way you would be affected adversely is if trying to edit anonymously from those ranges, or if trying to create an account while logged out (which is a discouraged practice anyway, in accordance with the spirit of [[user accounts policy). While the IP range doesn't look to be a web host/open proxy, based on my data source, it does look like it was used for significant crosswiki spamming (or attempted spamming), based on these global locks from that timestamp. I will typically block for crosswiki spamming for up to 1 year, so I'd be open to shortening this block to 1 year, from the current 2 years, with a valid need. However, this is sort of meh, given that you are able to edit just fine on Miraheze. Dmehus (talk) 05:44, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
QwertyMan'65, given the expiry date mentioned, it's almost certainly you've hit an open proxy/VPN/colocation hosting provider, blocked per no open proxies policy. It's also very unlikely to be affecting you when logged in to your QwertyMan'65 primary account. The only way this would be affecting you is if you (a) are either trying to edit anonymously on a wiki or (b) trying to create an alternate account when logged out. As a recommended best practice, you should transparently create your alternate accounts while logged in. If this is not the case, and you've hit a hardblocked proxy (which is very rare), then please send an e-mail to stewards(at)miraheze.org, identifying the wiki where affected, your username, the block ID, and other relevant or potentially relevant information. Hope this helps. Dmehus (talk) 05:42, 27 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

hello steward. I have a wiki hosted by miraheze and I am pleased with the behavior. @Firestar464: I know you've gotten response over Discord but I should note for the record that Void, while still 'here' from time to time, is one of the more inactive Stewards. More mileage can be found with Agent Isai or Reception123, who would be more likely to see this in a timely manner (they are pinged, so they should be able to see this when available). Personally I believe such a scope adjustment would be acceptable, but that is only my comment as an ex-steward. --Raidarr (talk) 12:40, 25 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Replacing a Phabricator-recreated wiki with a server copy[edit source]

Hi, I was directed here from an answer on the Community noticeboard. If I wanted to use Phabricator to recreate a wiki, then when the servers come back from repair and have that wiki saved as it was just before the problem last month, and I want to use this server copy of that wiki instead of the Phabricator recreation, how would I go about making it so that the server copy of that wiki is the one that is in use? Miraheze was supposed to shut down this month and it appears that the shutdown was averted. However, I don’t know how well this new group will do when it comes to keeping Miraheze running, and other people are still feeling the same way and migrating their wikis elsewhere. Problems with protection tools[edit source]

Greetings, a few days ago a vandal IP tried to attack Destruipedia, but we have already banned the vandal. This one itself uses Open Proxy and has already made attacks several times, not only on Destruipedia but also on other Wikis, well then I decided to semi-protect my talk page so that only registered users can communicate with me, but something went wrong in the protection and completely protected so only SYSOP can edit it, would that be something Update on MediaWiki, causing errors when using the Sysop tool? At least the banish and move tool still works fine. Pérola Maniaco (talk) 19:47, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Suspected sockpuppet on Incredible Characters Wiki[edit source]

Five days ago (25/08), a user by the name of mh:greatcharacters:User:Usersareusefullness attacked the ICW and posted inflammatory hate speech as well as vandalising 55 pages. I blocked them within an hour, and upon examining their edits, I learned that they may or may not be a sockpuppet of -abigblueworld-, who is notorious for their abusive behaviour towards the now-closed Reception Wikis (excluding the character wikis, which split before the group closed). I would like to have you block their IP address for as long as possible. The reason why is because back in April, the wiki was attacked by multiple socks by the names of mh:greatcharacters:User:NinteenRightyFourNinteen, mh:greatcharacters:User:Everythingismupitsyours, mh:greatcharacters:User:Everythingiswrong,Everythingisup, mh:greatcharacters:User:WEDON'TCAREWHENWEDID, and mh:greatcharacters:User:THISNEEDSTOSTOPRIGHTNOW. Upon the 24-hour IP block expiring, the sock would return one after another, which really agitated me. At this point, I have been renewing the block on the current vandal to prevent another vandal attack, but I think this is more of a short-term solution. Would you like to take action against them? Thank you. CrazySpruiker2001 (talk) 11:45, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Issues requesting your attention as a board member[edit source]

I have been nominated for Stewardship by another user, which I am willing to go ahead with if it means helping Miraheze survive; however, I am faced with two issues regarding that (both surrounding the NDA requirement) which I'd like your opinion on (I understand that you're very busy, so don't feel obliged to respond to this quickly if you don't have the time):

  1. I am a minor at the time of writing (15 years old, to be exact), so it's unclear if any NDA I sign would be enforceable (Zppix has stated on Discord that minors can't sign NDAs; I then pointed out that minors can technically sign NDAs, but it's unclear whether such NDAs would be enforceable) and thus allow me to become a Steward.
  2. There is no board secretary at the moment (Board/NDAs states that "you will be required to provide your address and full legal name to the Board Secretary in order to sign", which I can't do because there is no board secretary).

If you can provide your thoughts/solutions to these issues, it would be greatly appreciated. Tali64³ (talk | contributions) 00:16, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I have a question why Miraheze is so hated? 37.161.141.15 15:06, 1 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's mostly due to a type of wiki known as reception wikis (wikis that list the good/bad qualities of a particular subject); the main reception wiki family (known as Qualitipedia) was closed per community vote back in September 2022 but was revived as New Qualitipedia in December of that year. Default skin.[edit source]

How do I set a default skin for any wikis that belong to me? For example, instead of having Vector (2022), I have seen some wikis have other skins by default, such as the Pizza Tower Wiki (https://pizzatower.miraheze.org/wiki/Pizza_Tower_Wiki:Main_Page) having Timeless by default. CarlFilip19 (talk) 20:27, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Change the value of $wgDefaultSkin in Special:ManageWiki/settings under the "styling" tab. -- Original Authority (talk) 20:43, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Can you deal with a user please?[edit source]

So, there's a user who's been using IP accounts to post irrelevant topics about dead horses such as Bluba, Zenko, and the old Qualitipedia on various discussion tabs of users who have little-to-nothing to do with those subjects, and won't stop doing it despite being told by other users to stop. Can you please do something about this, like maybe block these accounts, or at least warn the user behind them to stop spamming topics about closed wikis and dead topics? SuperStreetKombat (talk) 21:50, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Stop it. It's bad enough that you spam dead topics to users that had zero involvment in them, and now you have to act like a troll towards me. I seriously hope that a Steward deals with you and your shenanigans. SuperStreetKombat (talk) 21:22, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Also, have had some problems with signing in before, and you just have to keep trying to sign in. Commetian Empire (talk) 01:30, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Expanding the scope of my wiki[edit source]

Hello! I'd like to expand the scope of the Esin Comics Wiki. I want the wiki to have memes, fan work, and activities related to the webcomics. Can I? Thanks! FellowEsin (talk) 13:37, 17 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@FellowEsin I see no problem with that. -- Void Whispers 23:48, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The softbetawiki problem is not resolved[edit source]

@Void:I issued a wiki blank page problem of my softbetawiki wiki in October , but you said it IS resolved in November. However, I cannot access any wiki edits, articles, wiki pages and content, despite Central Auth said users have several edits there. Also I cannot edit any page, attempting to edit a page will said "revision #0 does not exist", and when saving the edit, I will enter an infinite loop "edit conflict" notice said that blank page had new edit(s) before I submitting edit, both of them are editing via old revision (i.e. nonexistent #0). Also attempting to use Data Dump will generate a blank dump without any wiki content instead. Can you fix this issue to allow wiki pages, articles, wiki edits, content and so on to be accessed again (incluing Data Dump generating with wiki content)? Please see this message and resolve this problem ASAP as a want have backups myself on my wiki and preparations in response to further Miraheze actions (see the top global notice and an RfC which will closed on 31 December). --小美粉粉 (T - C - S) 1004065811 bytes of data NOTE: Do not {{ping}} me! 06:47, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

error after InfraWiki undeletion[edit source]

Hi void! you recently undeleted InfraWiki. unfortunately there seems to be an error in the undeletion process which is preventing me from editing my Main Page. it says the following:

The revision #0 of the page named "Main Page" does not exist. This is usually caused by following an outdated history link to a page that has been deleted. Details can be found in the deletion log.

Hope you’re able to look under the hood and help. Thanks! Infrawiki (talk) 06:19, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
