Generally unobjectionable, and I approve of the stated intention to go to bat for the Miraheze contributor to the extent possible. On The Mirror, as at Wikia Uncyclopedia, I routinely steal or crop wire-service photos, not to claim credit for the photography but to use it as a springboard to a Fake News comedy treatment. This has been going on for a decade and it has never been controversial (compared to authors at Uncyclopedia who took a trademarked logo as-is and used it to write "funny" libel). I claim fair use, but if someone believed he was robbed, I would relent and pick a different photo to weave jokes around, as it defeats the purpose of handing out free websites if the recipient has to pay thousands to some guy in a suit and wing-tip shoes. We will consider Fair Use when considering the case, when we get one in the wild. This is to comply with the current United States law (Digital Millennium Copyright Act), so if someone wants to oppose this, they have to call US Congress instead of here, anyway. Historically, we had one malformed DMCA takedown notice, and one takedown enquiries without escalating to DMCA notice. — revi 09:04, 23 November 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
