Welcome to Miraheze

Hello, R4356th, and welcome to Miraheze! Miraheze is a free, non-for-profit wiki hosting service. If you would like to start a wiki please fill in this form or, if you'd like to contribute to an existing wiki, please see a few wikis here or the full list of wikis here. Note that (private) wikis aren't accessible unless you are given access, and closed wikis cannot be edited.

For more information, please see our FAQ. If you have any additional questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact us.

You are encouraged to create your user page, whether here on Meta (visible only when on Meta), or your global user page that visible on any Miraheze wiki where a user does not have a local user page and provided that the wiki has the GlobalUserPage extension enabled and, additionally, where the wiki is not using the SocialProfile extension. Should you decide to create your global user page on Loginwiki and wish for it to replace your Meta user page, simply add the delete template to the top of your Meta user page by copying and pasting this code (), and an administrator should delete it promptly (usually within 24 hours).

If you have any questions, after first reviewing FAQ and the help center, please don't hesitate to ask at the community noticeboard, but please be sure to end all new topics or replies you make on talk pages, user talk pages (like this one), and noticeboards with four tildes (~~~~) to include both (a) a username and (b) a properly formatted timestamp for our talk page archiving bot.

Thanks,

Translation administrator granted - 2020-11-13

Hi, R4356th. An administrator on Meta has granted you the translationadmin user group permission, which gives you the ability to mark updated source pages for translation and prepare additional, untranslated pages for translation, among a few other permissions related to the administration of translated pages. You should also be aware that the granting of this user group is at the discretion of Meta administrators, so different administrators will have slightly different criteria for granting. Likewise, just as it is a discretionary appointment, revocation is also at the discretion of Meta administrators and, again, each will have their own criteria for revocation.

Nevertheless, the following are some of the main guidelines for translation administrators. If you follow these guidelines completely, it is unlikely your translation administrator user group should ever be revoked.

 • Don't mark or prepare pages too quickly. Administration of translation pages is handled by a system maintenance bot, FuzzyBot, whose tasks are handled by jobrunner1 and jobrunner2. Accordingly, it is strongly recommended that you check FuzzyBot's recent edits and log actions to see when it has completed your request. A good rule of thumb is to wait approximately 5-10 minutes between marking pages
 • Noticeboards and talk pages should never be translated. Due to the dynamically changing nature of the content on these pages, translation of these pages is undesirable, so they should never be prepared for translation. If you note that a noticeboard is proposed for translation (i.e., pages which contain translation tags but which haven't yet been marked), it's best to remove the < and > characters from the given discussion thread(s) that note the example translation syntax, to remove the noticeboard or talk page from pages proposed for translation
 • Never remove a translated page from the translation system. This is not recommended, mainly because the translation page units (in Translations: namespace) remain. Instead, if you believe a page should no longer be translated, start a new thread at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard recommending the given translated subpage(s) for deletion by an administrator. Once all the translated subpage(s) have been deleted, then a page can be removed from the translation system
 • Make use of tvar and Special:MyLanguage tags. The former is especially helpful with translating the displayed text of wikilinks (including interwiki wikilinks) and external links, and the latter is particularly helpful where the linked destination page is translated into languages other than English
 • Consider the utility and usefulness before preparing new pages for translation. For example, additional untranslated pages in Tech: namespace aimed at explaining to system administrators how to perform certain procedures are unlikely to ever be read in languages other than English. A best practice here is to propose new pages for translation at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard and obtain consensus there to prepare the page
 • Ignore, generally, pages in userspace proposed for translation. Often these are userspace drafts contain translation tags. You can usually just ignore these. If in doubt, you can ask at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard
 • Bookmark this help page on MediaWiki.org. Aimed specifically at translation administrators like you, it contains very useful, well written information on the Translate extension's translation administration tools

In addition, a couple of technical limitations regarding the translationadmin user group:

 1. You cannot mark fully protected pages that have been updated. If you see such a page that needs to be re-marked, please leave a note on the user talk page of any administrator on Meta or at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard; and,
 2. You cannot delete translated subpages. Again, you can recommend long outdated and unmaintained translations, as well as poor translations, for deletion by leaving a note on the user talk page of any administrator on Meta or at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you! --Dmehus (talk) 19:20, 13 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you very much. I have a question, should I start new threads in Meta:Administrators' noticeboard every time I want to prepare a page for translation or is my conscience enough in most cases? R4356th (talk) 20:09, 13 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
R4356th  No problem. Good question. I would say, in most cases, your common sense is a good enough. A good rule of thumb might be to stick to pages in either (Main) or Meta namespaces as long as they're not categorized at Category:Noticeboards, and are not subpages of the same; for other namespaces, I would suggest asking at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard. Category namespace is also a reasonable namespace in which you can use your good common sense, again provided it's not a holding category for the noticeboards. Hope that helps. Removing pages from the translation system

Hi R4356th,

It's not too significant of an issue, but I did notice, in actioning your request for deletion of Template:Essay/en, the deletion was not processed by FuzzyBot. It looks like you removed Template:Essay from the translation system. So, I just wanted to remind you of the best practice, which Meta Wiki follows, of instead posting a note somewhere for an administrator to delete any translated subpages. Once FuzzyBot has completed the deletion, then the page should be removed from the translation system.

Thanks again, and thanks for all of your translation work on this wiki. :)

Cheers,
Dmehus (talk) 01:59, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I am sorry about that. I did not mean to remove the page before it was deleted but I did have a reason behind it; the template's formatting got messed up as a result of adding the translate tags and this seemed like something that had to be rollbacked fast. I apologise again for the inconvenience. R4356th (talk) 08:54, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
R4356th  No worries. In this case, as I say, it wasn't too much of a big deal, as there weren't too many translation units for me to manually delete. In the future, when considering translating a template like Template:Essay, I might suggest duplicating it at Template:Essay/sandbox, then preparing Template:Essay/sandbox for translation. That way, when the template sandbox is no longer required if it didn't work out, you can simply swap the transclusion back to Template:Essay, and request deletion of Template:Essay/sandbox. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 15:44, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion. :) R4356th (talk) 17:21, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Patroller granted - 2020-12-9

Hi, R4356th. An administrator on Meta has granted you the patroller user group permission, which gives you the ability to patrol recent changes and new pages of other Miraheze users (both registered and anonymous) who are not either autopatrolled or an administrator. In addition, this group also means that your edits are autopatrolled, so other patrollers or administrators don't have to patrol your edits. You should also be aware that the granting of this user group is at the discretion of Meta administrators, so different administrators will have slightly different criteria for granting. Likewise, just as it is a discretionary appointment, revocation is also at the discretion of Meta administrators and, again, each will have their own criteria for revocation.

In the medium-term, plans are in the works to develop a Meta Patrollers School, likely led by one or two active administrators, that will provide a comprehensive set of guidelines for patrollers and answers to commonly asked questions.

Nevertheless, the following are some of the main guidelines for patrolling. If you follow these guidelines completely, it is unlikely your patroller user group should ever be revoked. In technical terms, even when you find content that requires deletion by an administrator or otherwise requires remediation, undoing, reverting, or rolling back (if you are also a rollbacker, of course), you should always first mark as patrolled any revisions regardless of whether that content is destined to remain extant to the page or even on Meta entirely.

 1. When patrolling talk pages, user talk pages, and noticeboards (in Main and Meta namespaces), you should first check to see whether the user properly signed their posts using four tildes (~~~~). If they have not, you should add unsigned by substitution (), where username is the user's username or IP address and the timestamp is the full timestamp from the diff page. As a best practice, you should also link to the diff in your edit summary, so other administrators and patrollers can easily tie your modification to the original edit being modified. To speed up this process, you can copy the diff-permalink user script from line 5 of this page into either your (a) common.js or (b) global.js page (the latter applying globally on all Miraheze wikis);
 2. When patrolling the noticeboards, ask yourself whether this topic is on the correct noticeboard. If it is not, you should move it to the correct noticeboard, by either undoing the edit or manually removing the topic (if there have been intervening edits), again linking to the original noticeboard of the topic and the new noticeboard where it was moved in your edit summary. On the new noticeboard, you would simply paste in the topic (including the section header), linking to the diff page as in the first step. An example edit summary might be Moved this discussion from Stewards' noticeboard to here, where ###### represents the numeric revision ID of the originally posted topic;
 3. Also when patrolling the noticeboards and talk pages (including user talk pages), as a best practice, take care to kindly fix any formatting mistakes (such as excess line breaks or incorrect wiki code), per WP:LISTGAP;
 4. If something requires deletion, you can add delete to the top of the page in question, taking care to follow the instructions on that template page;
 5. If you come across a user who repeatedly makes the same mistakes, send them a guidance note on their user talk page, informing of the steps need to edit and post constructively on Meta; and, finally,
 6. If in doubt whether something requires remediation or not, patrol it, and then ask any administrator via their user talk page or at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard if any further action needs to be taken.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you! --Dmehus (talk) 15:49, 9 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Jester Productions: Welcome to Miraheze Meta! Your first request was declined since it did not contain enough information on what type of content you plan to host on it. The second one was declined because of being a duplicate of the original one. SHEKH I don't speak Bengali, unfortunately, but noticed this link in R4356th's reply. If you're wanting to request local CheckUser, we don't have the policy support to permit this, to be honest. Instead, if you notice a pattern of abuse, you can report issues on stewards' noticeboard or via e-mail to stewards@miraheze.org supplied by appropriate behavioural evidence (i.e., diffs) to Stewards to review. Similarly, if your wiki is being plagued by spambots, you can also report this to Stewards, who can perform a CheckUser to see if open proxies are being used and effect the necessary rangeblocks. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 17:35, 31 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

~SHEKH (Talk) 08:50, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

ধন্যবাদ ~SHEKH (Talk) 10:57, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
R4356th (talk) 11:17, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your signature

Hi R4356th,

I noticed that I when replied to a post, my timestamp was included within a preformatted tag. My initial investigation revealed the problem is related to your above reply. Not entirely sure what it is, but suspect the multiple span tags, or nesting of such, in your signature is the problem. So, if you could kindly manually fix any recent transclusions of your signature and also fix your actual signature file, that'd be great. :)

Thanks! :)

Cheers,

R4356th It's better, as I see you've removed the manual timestamp, but it's still doesn't not following widely accepted signature norms. If you could remove the extra div or span, as I feel like one of the two is causing problems with the page indentation, and have your timestamp appear on the same line as your signature following "(talk)," that'd be great. It's also not clear to me that's necessary to specify Arial as the font family, as that's either (a) the default, as that's what I'm using, or (b) not the default, in which case I see no difference from my text, so it's not working. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 14:24, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It is alright. :) Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 18:34, 28 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Frequency of operation of TranslationHelper bot

Hey R4356th,

I meant to ask you, actually, how frequently your TranslationHelper bot proposed to operate and whether it would be automatically or manually run? Looking at this revision, that seems to indicate it is manually run, which is fine. I'm just wondering if you might consider setting it up on a cron, like Revibot, and have it run either once a day or once a week (however often we felt it needed to be run)?

Separately, I noticed that you add categories at User:TranslationHelper/Categories to Crawl, which is good. While fairly minor, I'm wondering if we could modify the code, perhaps, to have the bot monitor, say, Category:Pages monitored by TranslationHelper instead?

Cheers,
Dmehus (talk) 16:21, 1 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, you are right. And I am not currently interested in setting up a cron job for the bot without any specific use case. I am of course always open to suggestions, however. :) And regarding using a category instead of a page for tracking which pages to update, using a category will technically be better for me and if I ever decided to set up a cron. So if the Meta community does not have any problem, we can use a category. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 19:16, 1 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
R4356th The Meta community will have not any issues with using either a subpage of your bot's userspace or a category page; however, it's really more of a administrator issue as it's mainly a logistical/administrative concern. I personally don't mind either, actually, though I wondered whether using a category would be technically more difficult to set up (i.e., a major change to your bot's code), but I guess it doesn't. The automation isn't essential, but it would just be nice to know that as future pages are marked for translation, the bot will check it on a regular basis. Also, another advantage to automating is that an update time could be set to when editing volumes are low (which is probably in the overnight hours for me). Either one is not essential, though, just more of something to think about over the next month or so maybe. Dmehus (talk) 23:29, 1 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Do you think there needs to be a thread on Meta:AN regarding this? Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 07:54, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hrm, likely not, no. It's just an administrative/logistical discussion that can occur anywhere. As the operator of User:TranslationHelper, your talk page is arguably the best place to have any discussion between one or more Meta administrators and you regarding logistical changes to the bot's operations or technical specifications. As long as the bot isn't being proposed to add new tasks or expand its scope of operation, no new bot approval request discussion is required. Dmehus (talk) 13:09, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sounds good. I will make the technical changes soon then. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 13:15, 4 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Answer for the request

Hi!

It seems I can't answer to your response to my request, because it asks me to read a captcha code and it simply isn't there, so I do it here.

"It isn't an alternate account, just another people who want to participate to the wiki and I told her I was going to submit it but she didn't saw it so this is it. (Here is a screen of her apologising, basically "yes I'm sorry, I didn't saw it and I was in a rush to create the wiki")"

Thanks for your answer,

Abibeur. 17:33, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

@Abibeur: While I'm not certain why you were not able to reply on your user talk page but could reply on R4356th's, and I'll let R4356th reply to your comment and action your wiki request, I just wanted to remind you of the following:
(Please sign your posts on talk pages by using four tildes like this: ~~~~.)
Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 17:40, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi, @Abibeur:! I am surprised to hear you were not able to reply on your talk page but it is, of course, okay to post here. :) It looks like the message in the screenshot has not been written in English. That itself is not a problem but could you please ask them to confirm their identity here? Thank you. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 17:49, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes it is I who made the other request Tartie (talk) 17:56, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Mohamad00: Please have a look at the individual requests in order to see the reason for them being declined. For example, the most recent one. Reception123 (talk) (C) 15:48, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wikiwars

It's good, I have changed the subdomain of my wiki. Thank you for your message. Cordially, Inès3112 (talk) 15:10, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, thanks for reaching me out. I have replied on the request. Please follow my instructions. Thank you. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 15:17, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Noting your edit summary, DiscussionTools is not disabled. Sometimes the "reply" links do not load, which could possibly be related to times when the servers are under excess load and page load times are slow. Dmehus (talk) 15:19, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Dmehus: Yeah, agreed. I have been experiencing slowness for about half an hour now. I also noticed that loading scripts from other wikis takes much time, which could be making the case worse for me. It should be noted that the Reply button does usually show up even if there is slowness, however. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 15:27, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, it's been really slow for me as well for the past hour or so. It's probably even slower for you. I think that DiscussionTools doesn't work when the NOEDITSECTIONLINK magic word appears on a given talk page, but not sure if that's an upstream bug or by design. In any case, that seems not to be the case here as well, so we could possibly file a Phabricator task, but I'm not sure how to word it? Dmehus (talk) 15:37, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
A Phab task regarding what? Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 15:45, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That is deliberate if I recall correctly. I know the opposite turns it on. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 11:52, 20 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@RhinosF1: Assuming you are talking about DT, your reply complicates things. But anyway, this page is not using the magic word. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 04:50, 21 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi there.

Is there any way to get templates onto the wiki I created? --HenryTheEighth (talk) 13:07, 21 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

HenryTheEighth Yes, the easiest way is to use transwiki import from, say, English Wikipedia or Miraheze Template Wiki. You may wish to select the option to assign edits locally where possible. If you want to import a template not from the default transwiki import sources, you can either (a) request on Phabricator for an additional transwiki import source for your wiki or (b) use the file upload method, which has you use Special:Export on the source wiki and Special:Import on your wiki. In that case, be sure to specify the interwiki prefix exactly as specified in your wiki's interwiki table to include a link to the internal or external wiki user pages for all imported revisions. You should also link to the source template(s) in an edit summary for attribution and compliance with CreativeCommons licensing. If importing more than one revision and it's an infobox template or there are a lot of dependent modules, it's recommended you file a task on Phabricator and have system administrators do it for you, or you will almost certainly time out. Dmehus (talk) 13:13, 21 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What you have already been told above by Dmehus. :) Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 13:16, 21 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wiki requests

Please don't close requests where I have asked the requester for extra information. I wanted them to be able to reply to the request with the info rather than having to open a new one. Thank you. Bonnedav (talk) 19:58, 19 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not done because that clutters the wiki request queue. And in case you are not aware, users can always go back to the requests and click "Edit request" which would send you a notification and bring the request back to the queue. Thank you. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 10:16, 20 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Look, I don't know what your deal is, but please leave requests that I have responded to alone. Thank you. Bonnedav (talk) 10:19, 20 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
And what is your argument? Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 10:21, 20 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Common courtesy. I don't mess with requests that others have responded to. Bonnedav (talk) 10:23, 20 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I respectfully disagree. Declining a request that has been responded to a long time ago by a Wiki Creator but has not recieved any follow-up from the requester is not "mess[ing up] with requests". Those kind of requests being in the queue hampers my work. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 10:32, 20 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Bonnedav is correct. Requests being declined for more information is the old custom back from when comments did not send any notification, but is no longer the custom now. Do not decline the wiki unless there is clearly no reply for a while and the request is stale, not simply because you have asked for more information or there is no reply for a couple hours or so. Naleksuh (talk) 15:00, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Naleksuh: Things have changed and I do not understand why I cannot decline requests which have not been responded to in a reasonable amount of time as those requests clutter the queue. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 15:06, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Unsigned

I'm sorry, I forgot to sign the message in a recent debate. I was just in a little hurry. Yes, I know the signatures and that they have to be put in, here was just a session problem and I had to log out and log in again.. --Anton (talk) 17:44, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I can confirm there was indeed a session issue, as I got the same error in an earlier edit conflict, yeah. The odd mistake and unsigned post will happen occasionally. I've added unsigned signatures once or twice for Reception123 and Universal Omega and Void's even added it for me once. Dmehus (talk) 17:46, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Acknowledged. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 17:48, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Want to Create website like Wikidata

Hello, I want to create website site Wikidata. We need your help to create — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rudhra Technologies (talkcontribs) 09:39, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Rudhra Technologies: Hi, could you please elaborate? What do you mean by "we"? Are you planning to fork Wikidata? Thank you. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 09:43, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
ohh no no... I want to make website like wikidata who can help people to find data easily. Rudhra Technologies (talk) 09:25, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Rudhra Technologies: Unforunately, we cannot host forks of Wikidata because of its size. People keep asking for forks of Wikipedia but we generally do not accept those. Could you please narrow down your wiki's scope to something specific? Thank you. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 09:53, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
