NDK's Opinion[edit source]

I'm not going to edit this draft yet but I figured that, as an Orain steward and community member here, I personally believe Orain's dormancy policy is a little harsh. Personally I'd prefer a combination of some of the following changes. Thanks for reading this -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 16:52, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Inactive time[edit source]

I think wikis (especially new, smaller wikis) should have more than 30 days without an edit, especially if the user is still active on Meta, or it appears they are in the midst of setting up. If a user is changing sites or trying to gather a community here, it may take long for people to start actually using it.

Warning time[edit source]

After a notice is placed, I believe there should be more than 7 days before locking so that there is more time to see the notice, I propose somewhere between 10-30 days. I noticed on Orain that a week or two after locking, several people requested unlocks.

Adoption policy / private wikis[edit source]

I think that there should be a delay between locking and "available for adoption" (just incase). I do however agree that private wikis should not ever be adoptable, except by local staff on that wiki (ie, if someone is already allowed to read the wiki, but the founder abandons it, give another user elevated rights but don't open it up)

Deletion policy[edit source]

Unless required for technical/space reasons, I don't think we should delete unused wikis. I think we should however allow users to request deletion of wikis they founded, unless there are objections by people using the wiki.

Extension requests[edit source]

If users don't regularly update, but do use the information on their wiki (static, archives, etc) and they let us know they are still using it, I don't think we should delete the wiki no matter how few edits are made on-wiki. Requests for extension can be done via SN, IRC, or email, and should be logged on Meta.

^ update @Reception123:
I really like your opinion! Maybe for deleting we should leave more time, but we can't have so many wikis. I think that if a wiki has not been edited in 6 months after being closed, we should delete it, if not maybe wait a year or so. Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 16:56, 25 August 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Server use[edit source]

There can still be people reading a wiki even if no one is editing it. Visitors aren't tracked by MediaWiki but some kind of PHP visitor tracking would be useful to know if these wikis are still in use. D4rkst4r (talk) 20:44, 19 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We use Piwik and access logs everywhere. But, we respect user privacy and we heavily restrict access to Piwik and access logs. Southparkfan (talk) 20:46, 19 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
All we need to know is whether there are visitors on the wiki. D4rkst4r (talk) 22:37, 19 November 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
