Dormancy Policy on my wiki

Hola, Quiero pedirte que mi wiki wiki1776.miraheze.org tenga una excepción para evitar su borrado. Será un almacén donde guardaré, recopilaré, desarrollaré y organizaré información relacionada a los proyectos donde estoy participando. --Wiki1776 (talk) 23:46, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Wiki1776: So should it be exempted because it is meant to be read, and you will not regularly add information to it? Reception123 (talk) (C) 18:06, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
--Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:20, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Phabricator

Dear Reception123,

I have requested a feature on Phabricator. Please view it. --Vlad26t (talk) 15:34, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I will look into it soon, if no one does. Reception123 (talk) (C) 19:35, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What means "Assigned To" ? --Vlad26t (talk) 08:34, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to give my two cents here. It is in my view that asking configurator's to look at your request is quite disruptive and can be an annoyance. We have countless feature requests to process and we process all of them as soon as we can. Asking them to be looked at will not get them looked at any sooner, well by me anyway. Miraheze Logo.svg CnocBride | Talk | Contribs 17:56, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe, I know there are a lot of tasks, but we should still aim at completing them as soon as we can, as to allow users to continue their projects with the required extensions, logo's, settings that they need. Reception123 (talk) (C) 18:05, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
When will you do the task? --Vlad26t (talk) 09:29, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You still haven't done this task. --Vlad26t (talk) 09:49, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Vlad26t: Please note that hurrying this will not make it go faster. Unfortunately, your task requires more work than others, since we don't have it set up yet. I am not the only volunteer, and I did not yet find time to take care of your task. It will be done soon. Reception123 (talk) (C) 11:22, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:Reception123/Sysadmin inactivity policy draft

I've read your draft. The one-month period for deciding Admin inactivity seems unobjectionable; likewise the discussion-and-voting to decide whether the Admin is inactive and whether promises to resume activity are credible. But it's not clear what the month is:

  • A lookback period during which the Admin must have been absent to be declared inactive?
  • A clock that begins to run following a claim of inactivity?

Related: Was there a complaint? Does one charge an Admin with inactivity? or declare that the Admin has been inactive for the past month?

Separately, you list four criteria (it is the plural of criterion, so you have grammar errors) to judge inactivity. A criterion is like an algorithm. There could be "criteria" for deciding inactivity, but your list of "criteria" is instead a list of forums, such as IRC. (The plural of this is "fora" but nobody knows it.) A given Admin might be active on some of the forums but neglect others. Do you intend to require that every Admin be active at all possible points of contact? (Has Discord become a fifth?)

I am not an Admin and have no disagreements with any Admin; I just wanted to give you more ideas to think about. Spıke (talk)00:34 26-Apr-2018

@Spike the Dog: Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on the draft. The "month" is a period when an Ops member thinks it would be appropriate to review activity, I don't think it's necessary to impose specific dates, it can be something that's done every 3 months or so. It's not really about "complaints", as I explained above, inactivity can be a security risk, and either way what is the point of having server access if you do not use it? And yes, based on this a user can be deemed "inactive".
As for the "criteria", what you mention about someone being active on some but not on others is why there are multiple ones. Server access and GitHub commits are important, as that is what you gain with access mainly. Phabricator and IRC are also important, though, because (at least I think so) it is very difficult to work on things without communicating with people and staff, and even if you don't necessarily do stuff, advising other people on IRC and Phabricator can still be very helpful. As for Discord, no decision has been made yet whether it is official or not, but either way, it will probably still be the same criterion "Discord and/or IRC". Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:51, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Very good; perhaps clarify that, for instance, absence from IRC is not proof of anything if the Admin is continuing to participate. The criterion should be absence from everything. I don't think "it's necessary to impose specific dates" either, just be clearer about how absence becomes an issue in the first place. Cheers! Spıke (talk)13:59 27-Apr-2018

Custom Domain

I wanted a custom domain for my wiki. Since, I can't change the nameservers. I followed the section "If you can't change the DNS name servers:" in this link. Now my custom domain which is wiki.dobots.nl is pointing correctly to "mw-lb.miraheze.org". But MacFan4000 suggests (on Phabricator request T3040) to do something more, are you able to help in this regard? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gkatom (talkcontribs)

Funny I saw your message after I actually commented. Anyway, resolved on the task, MacFan4000 will take care of it later. Reception123 (talk) (C) 12:22, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Re to your e-mail

Hi, thanks for your e-mail, and I'd like to make a response to it here.

  1. "Miraheze Commons" is a shared image repository that can be used for all Miraheze wikis. I have posted a proposal on the Community Noticeboard, so please see it for more details.
  2. I now understand why you're afraid of giving interwiki edit rights to all bureaucrats. Thus, I agree with the idea of creating a "trusted-interwiki" group, and will make an RfC as soon as I can (so is that the proper place for discussions? I thought the community noticeboard was the place for such).
  3. As for custom namespaces, I'll wait for your updates. Thanks.
  4. As for requesting vandalismwiki for an exemption, the problem is that I don't have any local rights there (which I must, according to the Dormancy_Policy#Exemptions_from_the_Dormancy_Policy). I'm just an ordinary contributor with no privileged rights, and I think the request won't be treated as legitimate.

Here's an additional comment for the servey. I recently found that the server sometimes goes down, displaying Error 503, and would like to request for improvement on this issue. Thanks.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:33, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. And now I found you already have posted the issue of interwiki links on Community Noticeboard. Thanks for that :)--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:36, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The survey

Hello! Regrettably, I was off-line for the entire duration of Miraheze's recent poll. I am grateful for Miraheze letting me open wikis and contribute content. The proprietors vary from cordial to very friendly and it's easy to tailor the websites as desired: The instructions are clear and, when they aren't, you guys have enthusiastically accepted my edits. The only thing coming close to a complaint is that it is hard to get the right people to make a decision for or against something. I saw this with my request for a change of username, a change to the interwiki links, and in the handling of a chronically disruptive user. I agree that the service has intermittent unavailability. This is not really a problem except that sometimes a page under edit times out and changes are lost; this doesn't happen on other wikis and Miraheze might re-code things so that browsers can save the contents of an edit window across an outage.

Am not excited about advertising my two Miraheze sites. The technical reference wiki is occasionally read by users of the product, and when they point out errors, I go in and correct it; the humor wiki seems certain to be read by no one. Consequently, I have been spending less time on it (no time on the humor wiki) and more time on a blog from a newspaper columnist with a small following.

Would I recommend Miraheze? I have done so, to a current Admin at Uncyclopedia as a way to save the English-language Mother Ship of that franchise from Wikia's rampant demands that it stop resembling Wikipedia, which is its goal, and start resembling other sites in the corporation's Teen Shopping Club. However, it was painful when the project split in two in 2013 and my friend is reluctant to consider splitting it into three!

Feel free to move these comments to any better location or ask for additional feedback. Spıke (talk)13:30 27-Jul-2018

@Spike the Dog: Hello, first of all, thank you very much for the response either way. I will address your concerns now. For the username change, the issue is the fact that, even though the account is inactive it is not very easy to "give away" someones user account. I think that now, since more time has passed, you could request it again on Stewards' noticeboard. As for interwiki links, it is being handled in the RfC. We are working on downtime, and there should definitely be less edit time outs. We are also working on statistics so you can see if there are users on your wiki, and for the record I have went on the humour wiki a couple of times :). Thank you for recommending Miraheze, and note that I'm always here to answer any more questions you may have. Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:39, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My request

Hey there! A little while ago I put a request on the Community notice board about changing the URL to my wiki. You replied to it but never enacted the changes I requested. Here's the link to my request in case you forgot. Assuming everything is in the clear now, I was hoping you could do the changes whenever you can. Thanks and have a great day!--Jordan D (talk) 19:35, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@User talk:Reception123 So can you change it to Wikipedia? Louise3 (talk) 11:01, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Louise3: Technically, yes. However, as I pointed out on the other page, I am awaiting the opinion of other staff members. Please be patient. Reception123 (talk) (C) 12:03, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think this is deliberately deceptive, like naming a wiki the "US Department of Defense Website". There is basically one Wikipedia and everyone knows what/where it is. The forks of foreign-language Uncyclopedias are more of a gray area; there are now forks everywhere, as Wikia/Fandom tries to force the originals to adopt the format of their Teen Shopping Club. Spıke (talk)13:20 1-Sep-2018
(talk page stalker) Naming a site “Wikipedia” is confusing at the least, if not deliberately misleading and possibly copyright infringement. -1. Amanda Catherine (talk) 13:27, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, those are good points. It would be like calling a wiki "Meta Wiki", it would just be to confuse users. Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:28, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's not allowed, because the name Wikipedia is copyrighted by WMF, according to this note.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 16:20, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Due to the considerations presented above by the community, and also possibly copyright/trademark infringements, this request is currently X mark.svg declined. Please reconsider your name. Reception123 (talk) (C) 19:07, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Databaseadmin: Hello, the issue is that if you did not specify an email address on your previous account, there is no way for us to confirm that you are the same person. Therefore, you must understand that without any proof, any other user could claim this. So, for security reasons, I cannot grant access to the wiki. Problem

I want to tell you that I am facing some difficulties in my wiki https://en.gyaanipedia.co.in

Firstly I want to know that how I can add page sub heading like 'Indian author' or 'Poet' please tell me.

How I can connect my page to other languages page and active the mobile language button ?

I am facing a lot of difficulties in importing template infobox person from Wikipedia, please import it for me properly, which can be ready for use.

Thank you so much with due respect. Shaunak Chakraborty (talk) 16:49, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Shaunak Chakraborty: Hi, for subpages you need to use two equal signs == Title == . I'm not sure what you mean by connect but there is the the translate extension which you can enable from ManageWikiExtensions if that is what you need. Please read User:Void/Infoboxes, and if something is still not working feel free to contact him with anything regarding infoboxes. Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:54, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am not talking about sub pages I am talking about sub heading which is located at the 'pages issues' place I hope that you have seen the page issues place in Wikipedia. At that section the sub heading of a page is there, like for the page Narendra Modi it is 'Prime Minister of India' so I am asking that how I can add the sub heading or sub header of a page. Need contributors for my wiki!

Hi, I started a new wiki called Sustainapedia. I was wondering if you could help me with my wiki and help contribute to it. I need volunteers who will willing enough to edit all the time (almost active every ten seconds, just like Wikipedia), and to also make a difference. If you could ask other users to start contributing and continuously, that would be great. Plus, I need other administrators too who can patrol and protect articles from vandalism and spam. Are you willing to help me? If so, start creating your user page and start contributing and patrolling for vandalism. I will give you admin rights once you come to the site. Cheers! Request reasserted and immediately stalled

It has been a year since I put forward my name-change request, as the username I wish to poach has continued to be inactive in that year. It is at Stewards' noticeboard#Request to poach another user's name, bis. @開拓者: brought up an issue, independent of my request, though related to both him and me, and poof! my request is again in limbo, Management evidently seeing a reason it could defer a decision. Would you please goose this request so that it is accepted or rejected with a valid rationale? Spıke (talk)03:12 2-Mar-2019

@Spike the Dog: As I am not a steward, I cannot do anything about that, but I will ask the stewards to take a look and decide on what to do. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:48, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Patrolling oddity

Another question, please! When I turn on the Big Machine and visit Miraheze, I usually try to help by patrolling a few edits on Meta. For most pages, this used to involve a cute little circular animation on the change summary and it was done. Now, I get a separate confirmation page. This makes the process more complicated, as the link to Previous/Next Edit is cleared away.

Did I change one of my Preferences to lose the ability to patrol edits quickly? Did I lose some user rights? Spıke (talk)22:46 3-Mar-2019

@Spike the Dog: Would you mind taking a screenshot of what it shows you? For me it works as it always has. Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:49, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It is a page whose contents (below the usual title and #p-cactions) are "Mark revision 68970 of User talk:Promisekun as patrolled?" and presents a button labeled OK. Its URL is https://meta.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Promisekun&action=markpatrolled&rcid=262820
The point is, formerly, I was not directed to a different page at all but remained on the new page or on the change summary I was patrolling, except on important pages like the Stewards' Noticeboard. Spıke (talk)23:28 4-Mar-2019

Tolololpedia

Mesincuciuddin is inactive in tolololpedia.miraheze.org ,so can you nominate me as an admin there? You can also tell this to Spike --Pradiptamf (talk) 09:31, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see it, thanks! If the wiki operator is inactive, perhaps this is essentially a request to adopt the wiki? Spıke (talk)11:27 17-Mar-2019
If the wiki is closed, it can be adopted. If not, a request must be made locally and you must be voted, after which the request is made at Stewards' noticeboard. Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:58, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So, Pradip, the question becomes: Is anyone there at all? If so, I agree that they decide whether you should be an Admin. Spıke (talk)14:13 17-Mar-2019

Twitter card

El Komodos Drago suggests on Community noticeboard that there is a MediaWiki extension that modifies wiki pages to include a "Twitter card" instructing Twitter to format a graphic summary of the page when linked to from Twitter. But he seems to visit no more than twice a month. Do you know which extension would do this? Spıke (talk)23:30 22-Mar-2019

@Spike the Dog: I am not currently sure, but I will try to find out. Reception123 (talk) (C) 07:15, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you and good luck! Spıke (talk)13:53 23-Mar-2019

proposal

I think that you need to protect the meta:Requests for permissions page as “allow only logged in users”, as anonymous users may spam the page, and also letting any registered users to vote. Also, the action that you did “not let unregistered users view pages” prevented my sister from trying to blank my userpage
LegoMaster (talk - contribs - logs - uploads - global contribs) 02:19, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@LegoMaster: You are right, when I removed the autoconfirmed protection, I forgot to change it to logged in users. I am not sure what you mean by not letting unregistered users "view" pages. Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:35, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Reception 123: I mean by that, when I was not logged in, when I accessed the Community noticeboard, it said "Please log in to view other pages."LegoMaster (talk - contribs - logs - uploads - global contribs) 03:21, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@LegoMaster: On Meta? That is not possible, I also just checked to make sure. If you try now, does it still happen? Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:06, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Reception123: I can finally view it. Thanks. Cheers, LegoMaster (talk - contribs - logs - uploads - global contribs) 11:07, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

FAQ and number of servers

I still don't have (nor need) authorization to edit FAQ, but there is an error in FAQ#How many servers do you have, and where are your servers located?. It seems a third US server was added but the text still says "two of them". Less importantly, I suggest that, in place of "here and here", the section help the reader by explaining what he will find on clicking on each link. Cheers! Spıke (talk)22:10 15-Apr-2019

Hi

Hi, on the current RfC about changes to admin and crat policies can you make the notice a global notice? That way consensus is easier to be reached. Fungster (contribs - email - CA) 19:39, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Fungster: No, because the RfC only concerns Meta and does not affect other wikis. Reception123 (talk) (C) 16:44, 22 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Since you do not want to make it a global notice, please make the notice more efficient and noticeable, such as using a Fmbox template. Fungster (contribs - email - CA) 19:35, 22 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Discord/RfC

The name of this page doesn't follow the convention for RfCs on Miraheze, and therefore, for instance, the header of Special:RecentChanges doesn't show it in the count of active Miraheze RfCs. (If it was directed only at Discord users, maybe this isn't a problem.) Spıke (talk)21:02 22-Aug-2019

@Spike: Indeed, this is an RfC directed at Discord users and also a more informal RfC, so that's why we decided not to follow the usual format. --Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:33, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Spike: Seen as I started it, i'll clarify what Reception123 has said, We chose not to use the proper RfC standard for this and do it in the discord subpage as it doesn't really affect anything global or on meta and reduces the formal nature of it but discord users and is about informing operators how the server could be improved as the team that run the server want to carry out improvements so as part of the plan we put together the Feedback and voting stages to help them understand what users want. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat) · CA · contribs · Rights - on) 08:38, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

About Kid Dancers Wiki

This wiki is about children who have danced in competitions and/or conventions. They have also danced in plays, concerts, movies and TV shows. It also features dancers who have appeared on the TV show Dance Moms and/or also competed in TV dance competitions. You'll also notice that there are pages about adults, because they have danced (in competitions) when they were kids themselves. Today, several of them work as choreographers.--Kidgameshowlover800 (talk) 21:16, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Recent Email

Acknowledging the email you sent. To be frank, the comments in question came across as trolling to me (both in case of my comment on CN and Sourav Hadler on AN)... the comment on CN was/is a random off-topic tangent that has nothing to do with the issue at hand, and Sourav's comment in Bengali (assuming machine translation is reading such characters accurately) is just more of his typical troll-like comments that we've seen in the past. However, I will refrain from reverting comments except for vandalism. Amanda Catherine (talk) 22:32, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I gave thought to undoing the same edits. An off-topic post, if it gets disruptive, is better dealt with in ways other than erasing the evidence. The objection to the term "Far East" is a real objection, though not a good one: There is a valid reason that England-centric people call it that, and the objection might have been offered solely to joust. Trolling is a content-free post aimed to inflame; a public criticism, even if unfounded, is better rebutted than wiped away. Spıke (talk)23:20 4-May-2020
Following comments are my personal opinion. I think the post posted on CN was fine. He didn't know what the Far East meant, so asked what it meant. You should have explained it rather than revert it to have a discussion with Japanese-speaking users. Usually, when you can't understand what the other person is saying, you can't comment correctly. You just had to explain what England-centric people call the Far East. I mentioned to you that I thought the request by "M Gepid" to adopt my old themirror.miraheze.org was not in good faith. He created an article on the topic of internet porn (incidentally, a common thread of last week's vandalism of uncyclopedia.ca) and he or a troll posted to me there that I was "about to lose my wiki." I did ban "M Gepid" from The Mirror; the post was "neither funny nor news" and, in my opinion, his strategy was to make nominal edits to win your confidence, de-opp me, and then probably disappear, as he is surely not interested in writing satire news articles. Spıke (talk)23:20 4-May-2020

@Spike: Understood, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I see you have blocked him locally on the wiki, so in that case you may choose to either close the wiki again or use it, but I will close the adoption request as not done for the reasons mentioned. Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:48, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

And I see you have beaten me to re-close the wiki, which is good for now, as my efforts at Fake News are directed at uncyclopedia.ca for the time being. Cheers! Spıke (talk)20:02 6-May-2020

Hi, per the recent reform RfC, this is notification that you are required to re-confirm your position from CVT to Global Sysop. Please submit a request on Requests for global rights before 11:00 UTC on Tuesday, May 26th. If you do not open a confirmation request before then, it will deemed that you have resigned your role. Moving a wiki to a Custom Domain

I was looking into moving https://hololive.miraheze.org/ into a custom domain that I have added an SSL certificate to, https://hololive.wiki. I was trying to understand the process in https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Custom_domains, but each link there leads to a form for SSL *creation*, and I'm unsure how to proceed to have the wiki moved to my desired domain. Is there perhaps a newer help page or form that I am missing? Catman504

@Catman504: I haven't looked at that form specifically, but don't worry too much about the specifics of whether you're requesting a new SSL certificate or requesting to use an SSL certificate you've created, but in looking at that page, it looks like that's the correct form. Is it a Let's Encrypt certificate you've created? Whether it is or isn't, just put as much detail into that Phab ticket you are creating (i.e., that you've already created the SSL certificate and from which certificate authority you used), and a staff volunteer will follow up with you with any additional details they need to activate it onto your custom domain. CoCC reform

I edited your evolving RfC with a suggested rewording of one proposition. Separately, to abolish term limits, I wouldn't replace the text with anything. My state's constitution contains a platitude setting out the preferred attitude of "future legislators." It's meaningless and has led to a lot of drama. Spıke (talk) 12:01 11-Jun-2020

@Spike: Thanks for the reword, your wording is more clear and makes more sense! Will just make one small change to make it clear that local actors also include IRC operators (which cannot be considered "sysops" really). Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:11, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Am eager to vote for this RfC. We don't need a committee to investigate every act of misbehavior. We need a rulebook, plus the CoCC committee to hear appeals, apply the rulebook, and ensure we are using principles and consistency. However, I'll vote against your first proposition because, again, it is a platitude, not a rule. We don't need to vote to agree on a state of mind, and it's not clear what changes if we do agree. Spıke (talk) 19:11 13-Jun-2020

@Reception123 and Spike: I'm not opposed to the idea of a Code of Conduct Commission, but given the member volunteers are all either system administrators, co-founders, or stewards, it's kind of more or less redundant and, thus, not needed. If we're having trouble electing volunteers to serve on the Code of Conduct Commission (as an aside, I would volunteer), then that suggests it's not really wanted and, perhaps, any final ban or block appeals could just be referred to CN for the community to discuss, with closure by an uninvolved steward? In such a case, the steward should appropriately discount the "oppose" !votes that are either without merit or merely because they believe (falsely) indefinite blocks are permanent blocks and somehow "need to be respected." Likewise, the steward would also appropriately strike confirmed or probable sockpuppet (including meatpuppet) "support" votes. Dmehus (talk) 20:12, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Valid topics for debate, but neither one within the scope of this RfC. Reception was not reconsidering the existence of the CoCC but merely proposing to change the point at which it would get involved; and he didn't propose to change its decision criteria. Yes, in general, votes that aren't authentic independent voices should be discounted. Votes that are based on irrelevant prejudices should too, but who's to say? Spıke (talk) 02:33 14-Jun-2020

Reception123, it strikes me that elastic clauses have snuck back into your Proposal 1.2.

  • The Proposal (generally re-styling the CoCC as an appeals board) here gives it the power to make an initial request, of "global or local sysops, as well as any other groups mentioned in the Code of Conduct." I presume the Code of Conduct already specifies who can initiate action and your Proposal doesn't propose to change this. If so, much of the text can be gotten rid of.
  • Similarly, the Proposal sets out a list of punishments, ending with, "or other sanctions." The listed sanctions may be good examples, but they are included in the last item. (Bottom line, "Any punishment might happen.") Again, I don't think your Proposal aims to change this at all. The Code governs Conduct, including cost of misconduct. If you just state your Proposal and don't try to set out the complete resulting state of affairs, things will be simpler.

What's left? The Commission does not have the right to initiate discipline, but may by majority vote ask any group authorised by the Code of Conduct to do so. Spıke (talk) 20:46 14-Jun-2020

@Spike: Yes, I saw that, but I was thinking that if we're going to have a Code of Conduct Commission, that it may also want to be empowered to also be a neutral, or supposedly neutral, arbitrating body to initiate discipline (there are several use cases for this, but the obvious one would be when two stewards or global sysops disagreed on whether to or for how long to locally or globally block one someone; another use case could be arbitration enforcement-type sanctions at English Wikipedia. Also, this is part of my rationale for my proposal 1.6(c). Dmehus (talk) 21:16, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

requesting wiki issues

Hello, I have a big issue about requesting wikis and them already being taken. My friend and I have been requesting a wiki for a contest with the initials DSC, but it says it has already been taken. After looking at the wiki that already exists, it has been inactive since October with not a SINGLE edit. Since it was 2 months inactive, we tried to adopt the wiki, but again the mods reply with the wiki being private. The message says the wiki and subdomain will be deleted after 6 months of inactivity. It has been NINE months now and nothing has happened. We would like to know if you guys could do us a favor and let us take the subdomain for the wiki, so we can start working on the wiki. We have been trying so hard for months now to try to get this issue resolved, but each time we are denied and it seems like no one is listening to our messages. Hopefully you will allow us to take the wiki subdomain.

Thanks, CamdaNer

Looks like it could possibly be eligible for deletion now according to the logs on the wiki (would want someone else to verify, this is an unusual request). However, out of curiosity, how important is it to use dsc.miraheze.org when you could have picked another subdomain? -- Void Whispers 23:51, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New here

Hi, I'm new to Miraheze. I'm mostly into independently-hosted gaming wikis, so I am not looking to make a first wiki. However, I did want to bring up something, which has likely been done before: FANDOM used to be Wikicities but has since been ruined completely. One thing I hope for is that some of the oldest wikis can have new life here. For example, Seattle Wiki. It has been abandoned for years, and I feel wikis like this have untapped potential, as do several other long-since abandoned wikis that were created in the 2000s. It looked like a pretty good vision for a platform of real Wikipedia. Anyway, just wondering if you think it would be a good idea to revitalize some of those old, long-since abandoned wikis on Miraheze. With the CC-BY-SA license, it is allowed, as long as you attribute the original site. There are no communities either. I don't really plan on editing and mostly plan on reading them. There's a lot of subjects that I feel are waiting to have wikis -- something that was there with Wikia long ago but has since been completely ruined. Just wondered what your thoughts are, as you seem to be one of the admins here. Thank you, RMV2003 (talk) 17:20, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

RMV2003 Hi, welcome to Miraheze! If you think these wikis could benefit people I don't see any issues with bringing them over here, it's always great to get new wikis. Reception123 (talk) (C) 18:50, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Promised for months! What do you think? Spıke (talk) 12:54 15-Jun-2020

@Spike: Looks like an interesting proposal, though I wouldn't necessarily agree with the 6th point you make which does change a lot. Though we can discuss all of them. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:13, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'll copy your feedback to the proposal page and announce the proposal. Spıke (talk) 14:44 16-Jun-2020

User:Spike/Recommend that RfCs undergo a public comment period

The vote on the original RfC is nearly evenly divided, but you as well as one voter objected to the mandatory aspects. I've redrafted it as a recommendation, though I'm skeptical of adding a big new procedure that doesn't have to be followed. What do you think? (Not just whether the edits resolve your complaints, but do we need it?) Spıke (talk) 10:44 10-Jul-2020

@Spike: Since it's optional, I'm not sure we even need to have a full RfC to adopt specific wording of the document. We could probably just refer to the current, as yet unclosed, RfC where was some support for rephrasing instructions for beginning an RfC by including a reference that RfCs be drafted and discussed somewhere prior to being launched formally. We're not writing policy here; this is well within editorial discretion of any user to add such phrasing to the information page. I think we should just make the changes, tag it as a "draft," and then discuss on the corresponding talk page, providing a notification link at CN to encourage more discussion on the talk page. These instructions seem too rigid for what's only a strongly encouraged recommendation. Hope that helps? (talk page stalker) Dmehus (talk) 13:27, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Points 5-7 are what I would object to, chiefly, if this were to go to another RfC. I don't think we need to dictate how a draft discussion should be closed. A week seems like a reasonable minimum comment period, but could also be shorter if there were, say, at least five participants and no opposition. It's really just a guide. Similar, to close the draft discussion, any of the participants could simply begin, in a new sub-section, a proposal to close the draft phase and move it to an RfC, pinging the existing participants. Dmehus (talk) 13:33, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Spike: Perhaps instead of it being an procedure, it should be a guideline or a recommendation that we could have somewhere, so that users know what is preferable to do. I don't think we need an obligation, we can trust users to follow the steps in my opinion. Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:19, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; then I won't advance it further. The existing RfC can probably be closed too; it isn't getting new input and wasn't passed, if you count the negative opinions. Spıke (talk) 17:45 11-Jul-2020
@Spike: I do propose that perhaps, similar to how the English Wikipedia does "essays" (not sure if you're familiar with it), we do add these recommendations somewhere visible. Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:48, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'd Symbol strong support vote.svg Strong support having something similar to Wikipedia guidance essays, tagged appropriately with a suitable template. These could be created by any experienced users and edited by other users. Similarly, we could link to them on official policy or informational pages, since they would containable suitable caveats that they don't represent official policy. please ignore rush. our group, in fact, has not vandalized his wiki since August. he just wants our site to get shut down. he claims we are hacking his site. the only thing we did was misuse a speedy deletion template, which a VSTF informed him of and even after that, he still didn't accept that, and is stalking us everywhere we go, trying to get us taken off of every platform. we do not plan our attacks or any fowl activities to any platforms, on Miraheze. Part 2

Hello again, DSC is a very important subdomain since any other subdomain would not make sense for the contest. The owner has really wanted this subdomain for months and he doesn't want to have to rename the initials of the contest after running it for 1 year now. @: It's a great idea, and you've hit on something on my 'to-do list'. I don't think it needs an additional RfC; a lot of what happens on Meta is based on local customs and conventions that have normalized over time. I was thinking of creating Help:Patrolling, with a section patrolling on Meta, that outline guidelines for how to patrol revisions, what to correct, what actually needs reverting or tagging, and so forth. After we've developed that help page, we can discuss it on the talk page and provide a brief notification to the community of the discussion on community noticeboard to help develop the guidelines. @Lois: Please note that infoboxes are quite complicated. If you are trying to import them, it is best to use Special:Import rather than copy/paste them. You can also have a look here. Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:25, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of User:Reception123 for Stewardship question

Is it ok for me to nominate you for stewardship? I already did, but I forgot to ask. If you don't, you can decline the request if you want --Tom191 (talk) 19:49, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the nomination, however at this time I have decided to decline it for the reasons listed on the page. Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:38, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Request

What was the issue with the request? Special:RequestWikiQueue/14248 (goodseed.miraheze.org) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alpha (talkcontribs) 19:29, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Alpha: Your wiki doesn't have a clear purpose or topic. What's your wiki about? How will it write its content? Please go back into Special:RequestWikiEdit/14248 and add to, but do not replace, your existing description with this information. Hope this helps.

We are having some sort of issue with a troll on Horrible Vyonders Wiki pretending to be someone else.

If you actually look at the page about Elias D, the user pretending to be him is going around sending death threats and harassing them. Please do something to stop them: https://horriblevyonderswiki.miraheze.org/wiki/Elias_D_The_Vyonder DarkMatterMan4500 {talk} 23:26, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Small change to the RequestWiki UI

Hi,

Just letting you know that there's been a small change to the RequestWiki UI this morning and you can check the new steps to take here.

Mainly wanted to note that you can leave the reason field blank if you are approving a request, as it will automatically link to the request.

Also would like to note that declining is now also done via the "Handle request" section rather than a separate one.

About Special:RequestWikiQueue/14400, Isn't it approved because it's Korean? Thanks, --Gomdoli4696 (talk) 12:57, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Gomdoli4696: Could you please provide further details about your wiki? Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:46, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am planning to make a dictionary of words, and I'll make it among Korean speakers. Thanks, --Gomdoli4696 (talk) 13:50, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Miraheze

Hello, Reception123, and welcome to Miraheze! Miraheze is a free, non-for-profit wiki hosting service. If you would like to start a wiki please fill in this form or, if you'd like to contribute to an existing wiki, please see a few wikis here or the full list of wikis here. Note that (private) wikis aren't accessible unless you are given access, and closed wikis cannot be edited.

For more information, please see our FAQ. If you have any additional questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact us.

You are encouraged to create your user page, whether here on Meta (visible only when on Meta), or your global user page that visible on any Miraheze wiki where a user does not have a local user page and provided that the wiki has the GlobalUserPage extension enabled and, additionally, where the wiki is not using the SocialProfile extension. Should you decide to create your global user page on Loginwiki and wish for it to replace your Meta user page, simply add the {{delete}} template to the top of your Meta user page by copying and pasting this code ({{Delete|1=Author requests deletion, or author blanked.}}), and an administrator should delete it promptly (usually within 24 hours).

If you have any questions, after first reviewing FAQ and the help center, please don't hesitate to ask at the community noticeboard, but please be sure to end all new topics or replies you make on talk pages, user talk pages (like this one), and noticeboards with four tildes (~~~~) to include both (a) a username and (b) a properly formatted timestamp for our talk page archiving bot.

Thanks,
Dmehus (talk) 17:28, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Dmehus: As one of the first users to register on Meta in August 2015 and with more than 8000 global edits, I thank you very much for this slightly late welcome note :P Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:32, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Reception123: (edit conflict) This was obviously just a test, but I thought it would be easier to test my revamped {{welcome}} template on your user talk page, in order to get any feedback you might have, or to obtain your "thumbs up/LGTM" stamp of approval (as opposed to testing it in Meta:Sandbox). I revamped it in a major way, to include a section header, add much-needed substitution of magic words, add information on global user pages, add an automatic signature, and add documentation to the template. What do you think? Dmehus (talk) 17:33, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I agree, it's better than the previous one. Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:38, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Reception123: Okay, great, thanks! :) Dmehus (talk) 18:36, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unanswered requests

Sorry to bother you but it's been a few days since I posted these requests and I still have no answer.--Wedhro (talk) 15:04, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Wedhro: While user merges can be done, they generally have to be done locally and manually by a steward as global user merges aren't scalable. So, what would be the reason for needing to merge? If the user wishes to transfer his or her credentials, they can simply either ask local bureaucrats to remove the rights on the old accounts and add rights on the new account. Where the local bureaucrats are inactive after a considerable period of time, a steward can be dispatched to the local wiki to assess the local permissions change request in the absent bureaucrats' stead. (talk page stalker) Dmehus (talk) 15:55, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: This is not news, I've already asked and obtained user merges at lest 20 times after we moved our wiki from Fandom and stewards told me it was the only way for users to get back their old accounts. (I'm the local bureaucrat anyway) This is my first of many requests. --Wedhro (talk) 04:52, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Real Life Villains Miraheze

Hi. I am a bureaucrat for Real Life Villains Wikia, and I was wondering if the Category Gallery extension could be added to our wikia. I don't know a single thing about computer programming so I can't do it myself; when I tried I got confused really quickly. - Rangerkid51 01:51, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, its got to go through security review first, see T6334 Zppix (Meta | CVT Member | talk to me) 02:13, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Rangerkid51: Welcome to Meta, and to Miraheze. If you have any further questions, we invite you to our Discord server or to the community noticeboard. (Please sign your posts on talk pages by using four tildes like this: ~~~~.). Dmehus (talk) 02:17, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
