Wrongly handled request

FYI this request was incorrectly declined. Miraheze wikis can't have hyphens in them due to a technical and style design. Custom domains are exempt from domain naming styles. John (talk) 19:37, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Last Week in the Mirror

Thanks for replacing DPL3 with DPL on TheMirror.miraheze.org per my Phab request. This has solved part of the problem, the different parameter syntax. Unfortunately, it did not solve the major part of the problem. I have gotten the Main Page to render by commenting out the DPL in themirror.miraheze.org/wiki/Template:News_directory with NOWIKI. This template is supposed to be an automated list of the 25 articles created most recently. When I remove NOWIKI, it won't even preview, no matter how extremely I simplify it. The only way to get it to not hang is to code a DPL request that matches 0 pages, such as specify namespace=File. It's got to be something simple, such as the way it is configured on this wiki. I would appreciate if you or some other expert can look in and see what I'm doing wrong, at your leisure. Spike the Dog (talk) 03:52, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

Marking for translation

I don’t think we need to mark something for translation when translators in fact doesn’t have anything new to translate, so I intentionally left them as is. What do you think about this? — revi 18:46, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

Need contributors for my wiki!

Hi, I started a new wiki called Sustainapedia. I was wondering if you could help me with my wiki and help contribute to it. So i just created the miraheze version of Tolololpedia with the link of https://tolololpedia.miraheze.org because someone said all uncyclopedia including tolololpedia will be closed and some uncyclopedias has moved to miraheze. Discussion notifications

As you have probably noticed by now, Site updates have not been sent/updated for a while. The main reason for this is the fact that there was not an interest in it, and there was not enough information that was worth sending to users monthly.

I am sending this message to the Site updates list because I would like to propose a trying out a different type of notice sent to users. Instead of monthly updates of a limited number of statistics (which can be consulted by users anyway), staff would instead notify interested users if there is an interesting discussion (on Community noticeboard or Stewards' noticeboard) or if there is a local vote on Meta. Currently, there is no incentive for many users to visit Meta and check recent changes to see if there is anything they would be interested in, so this system would fix that and notify users of that so they can join in the discussion whenever there is one.

In order to subscribe to these notifications, please add your name in the same format to Discussion notifications/List, and you will start being notified on your talkpage. If there is interest in these notifications, they will be continued.

Also, please note that at least for the time being Site updates will be discontinued (since all the statistics are available anyway).

Filter 27

What's the purpose of that filter? As far as I know, there's nothing wrong with any regular user using the "Reverted edits by" edit summary, as its obvious that it wasn't MediaWiki rollback from the lack of the associated tag (although @John: or @Void: may wish to confirm this). Unless there is some policy that explicitly prohibits manual use of such an edit summary, I ask that you please revert that filter creation, or at least turn off the disallow feature. According to the AbuseLog, what MacFan4000 wanted to prevent actually looked like something that is even not an undoing but faking as if it were a rollback/undo like these edits (though I found out later that my test was an incomplete one, there's no way to detect (non-)rollback action itself according to rules format after all, and therefore cannot detect fake rollback by rollbackers or admins). Translation administrator granted - 2020-12-10

Hi, MacFan4000. An administrator on Meta has granted you the translationadmin user group permission, which gives you the ability to mark updated source pages for translation and prepare additional, untranslated pages for translation, among a few other permissions related to the administration of translated pages. You should also be aware that the granting of this user group is at the discretion of Meta administrators, so different administrators will have slightly different criteria for granting. Likewise, just as it is a discretionary appointment, revocation is also at the discretion of Meta administrators and, again, each will have their own criteria for revocation.

Nevertheless, the following are some of the main guidelines for translation administrators. If you follow these guidelines completely, it is unlikely your translation administrator user group should ever be revoked.

• Don't mark or prepare pages too quickly. Administration of translation pages is handled by a system maintenance bot, FuzzyBot, whose tasks are handled by jobrunner1 and jobrunner2. Accordingly, it is strongly recommended that you check FuzzyBot's recent edits and log actions to see when it has completed your request. A good rule of thumb is to wait approximately 5-10 minutes between marking pages
• Noticeboards and talk pages should never be translated. Due to the dynamically changing nature of the content on these pages, translation of these pages is undesirable, so they should never be prepared for translation. If you note that a noticeboard is proposed for translation (i.e., pages which contain translation tags but which haven't yet been marked), it's best to remove the < and > characters from the given discussion thread(s) that note the example translation syntax, to remove the noticeboard or talk page from pages proposed for translation
• Never remove a translated page from the translation system. This is not recommended, mainly because the translation page units (in Translations: namespace) remain. Instead, if you believe a page should no longer be translated, start a new thread at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard recommending the given translated subpage(s) for deletion by an administrator. Once all the translated subpage(s) have been deleted, then a page can be removed from the translation system
• Make use of tvar and [[Special:MyLanguage]] tags. The former is especially helpful with translating the displayed text of wikilinks (including interwiki wikilinks) and external links, and the latter is particularly helpful where the linked destination page is translated into languages other than English
• Consider the utility and usefulness before preparing new pages for translation. For example, additional untranslated pages in Tech: namespace aimed at explaining to system administrators how to perform certain procedures are unlikely to ever be read in languages other than English. A best practice here is to propose new pages for translation at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard and obtain consensus there to prepare the page
• Ignore, generally, pages in userspace proposed for translation. Often these are userspace drafts contain translation tags. You can usually just ignore these. If in doubt, you can ask at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard

Patroller granted - 2021-05-21

Hi, MacFan4000. An administrator on Meta has granted you the patroller user group permission, which gives you the ability to patrol recent changes and new pages of other Miraheze users (both registered and anonymous) who are not either autopatrolled or an administrator. In addition, this group also means that your edits are autopatrolled, so other patrollers or administrators don't have to patrol your edits. You should also be aware that the granting of this user group is at the discretion of Meta administrators, so different administrators will have slightly different criteria for granting. Likewise, just as it is a discretionary appointment, revocation is also at the discretion of Meta administrators and, again, each will have their own criteria for revocation.

In the medium-term, plans are in the works to develop a Meta Patrollers School, likely led by one or two active administrators, that will provide a comprehensive set of guidelines for patrollers and answers to commonly asked questions.

Nevertheless, the following are some of the main guidelines for patrolling. If you follow these guidelines completely, it is unlikely your patroller user group should ever be revoked. In technical terms, even when you find content that requires deletion by an administrator or otherwise requires remediation, undoing, reverting, or rolling back (if you are also a rollbacker, of course), you should always first mark as patrolled any revisions regardless of whether that content is destined to remain extant to the page or even on Meta entirely.

1. When patrolling talk pages, user talk pages, and noticeboards (in Main and Meta namespaces), you should first check to see whether the user properly signed their posts using four tildes (~~~~). If they have not, you should add {{unsigned}} by substitution ({{subst:Unsigned|username|00:01, 31 August 2020 (UTC)}}), where username is the user's username or IP address and the timestamp is the full timestamp from the diff page. As a best practice, you should also link to the diff in your edit summary, so other administrators and patrollers can easily tie your modification to the original edit being modified. To speed up this process, you can copy the diff-permalink user script from line 5 of this page into either your (a) common.js or (b) global.js page (the latter applying globally on all Miraheze wikis);
2. When patrolling the noticeboards, ask yourself whether this topic is on the correct noticeboard. If it is not, you should move it to the correct noticeboard, by either undoing the edit or manually removing the topic (if there have been intervening edits), again linking to the original noticeboard of the topic and the new noticeboard where it was moved in your edit summary. On the new noticeboard, you would simply paste in the topic (including the section header), linking to the diff page as in the first step. An example edit summary might be Moved [[Special:Diff/######|this discussion]] from [[Stewards' noticeboard]] to [[Community noticeboard|here]], where ###### represents the numeric revision ID of the originally posted topic;
3. Also when patrolling the noticeboards and talk pages (including user talk pages), as a best practice, take care to kindly fix any formatting mistakes (such as excess line breaks or incorrect wiki code), per WP:LISTGAP;
4. If something requires deletion, you can add {{delete}} to the top of the page in question, taking care to follow the instructions on that template page;
5. If you come across a user who repeatedly makes the same mistakes, send them a guidance note on their user talk page, informing of the steps need to edit and post constructively on Meta; and, finally,
6. If in doubt whether something requires remediation or not, patrol it, and then ask any administrator via their user talk page or at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard if any further action needs to be taken.

Yes, there are, and you were just linked to it. Rollback may not be used on good-faith edits, both via Miraheze policy and via the more extensive Wikipedia version. Update on Import Request - Xomniwiki

Hi there, wanted to pass along a discord support request from the owner + administrator of xomniwiki, their import request (m:Special:RequestImportDumpQueue/218) apparently halted at pages starting with Ah and didn't complete all imports.

As far as I know everything in the provided XML file was imported. It was 1KB in size so there wouldn't have been much in it. Also that is small enough that Special:Import likely would have worked fine. MacFan4000 ^{(Talk Contribs)} 21:58, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

@Antoniofk5 and @Laosy, at this point I'd recommend checking what the XML file factually contains using a program like Notepad++, as MacFan4000 mentioned there may have not been much in there to import...

You can also try opening the XML file using a web browser to see if there's perhaps any code errors that might have broken imports. I'm happy to assist on walking through any fixes, feel free to reach out on my talk page if so. (see signature for link)

Although I did not import personally, I have a copy of the xml that is 90MB in size (hence why we requested the import dump), so it might be the case that the person who submitted the import submitted the wrong file. Removing notification from a deleted wiki

Off-wiki handles and edit warring

You were reminded previously by a Meta sysop and global sysop on Miraheze Volunteers not to out users, after openly stating that you "see no problem" with adding users' identities on other websites without their consent. You also edit warred on the main page of dev wiki. There are several more counts of false reverts going back a while. You have claimed to have learned from these mistakes (though they are never mistakes unless you are requesting permissions, yet you have now, once again, reverted an edit removing outing to re-add outing, with the comment being "don't remove others comments". I assume you would know that this is allowed, and assume that comments are not being removed for no reason. However, reinstating this is not a good look. The only improvement I have seen is less use of rollback. However, you just reinstated outing which is not OK. Don't do that. Especially without even addressing that in the revert summary, which is insanely disruptive. If every removed comment were reinstated, no libel or anything else could get taken down. I will also note that less than a month ago there was an issue with someone's real name, phone number, physical address, and many other things posted online which I removed. You were offline at the time, but I am worried what would happen if you were not, would this comment have been put back?

Given your history of false reverts and seemingly targetted use at one person, which are never mistakes unless you are asking for permissions in which case you have learned from them (but immediately do them again), it may be best for you to simply stop using the undo feature entirely. I would note that generally, only Miraheze-related topics should be discussed on Miraheze talk pages. You are free to message MacFan4000 on IRC (as far as I know) if you wish to continue this, but as gar as I'm aware, it's generally not permitted to leave messages about completely unrelated topics. Protection of pages

It seems you protected niche pages (those which are viewed by a few users) like Underaged users to admins only. This blocks some trusted users who fix typos (WikiGnome). Semi protection is sufficient at preventing vandalism and allows more users to do some WikiGnoming. Can you please loosen the protection of these pages to allow autoconfirmed users to edit? Thanks. As a TS policy, macfan has the right of it. There is merit to being able to make minor fixes without fuss, but in a case like this it would be rare and not much trouble to use the talk page.
