Good afternoon. Could you help me with something? --Iron Sword 22 (talk) 19:28, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your recent global rename request[edit source]

Hi ItMeansNothing,

Regarding your recent global rename request, while I have no problem processing that to the desired name requested, global renames should generally not be done multiple times in a given year—for reasons of both a technical- and community-oriented nature. As you previously have had the following usernames in 14 months:

I would like for you to confirm to me, on-wiki, that it is your intention to keep this new requested username for the very long term (a minimum of twelve (12) to twenty four (24) calendar months, and ideally, much longer). I just want to make certain this will basically be your permanent username around which you want the Miraheze community to get to know you by.

Thanks,

Ironically, I've been called out multiple times for changing my username continuously and never thought even the stewards would get sick of it. If you want me to keep the "ItMeansNothing" username, that's fine. I like the current username anyway, but I wanted a pretty expressive username. Thanks.

ItMeansNothing Not saying you have to stick with ItMeansNothing, or that you can't revert to a previous name (since you are apparently better known by some variation of "Wage"), but please just consider both the technical and philosophical/community challenges this presents with every global rename. While Miraheze has no set timeframe for how often one should change their username, a good "rule of thumb" is that a username should be kept for at least a year and, ideally, longer. If you expect to keep your requested username for at least that long, and not get sick of it, I'll process the global rename request. I just want you to choose a name you will not become sick of or bored with after a few months, and then we can process that global rename request. One other option you could consider is to create a separate alternate account, ideally listing it as an alternate account on your global user page of both accounts. Provided you observe any locally imposed wiki restrictions as may from time to time occur on local wikis, this is an entirely acceptable practice. Hope that helps. Since I haven't heard back from you, I've assumed that your currently requested name is not something you're looking to stick with for the very long term. As always, you can always create any alternate accounts you require, provided you don't use the alternate account(s) on wikis where already locally restricted in some way. As a best practice, it's recommended, or even encouraged, to list any alternate account(s) you create on the global user page or Meta user page of at least your main account. Anyway, I'll mark this requested rename as cancelled per the discussion on your user talk page. Dmehus (talk) 21:31, 18 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
