A barnstar for you!

The Editor's Barnstar
Thank you very much @BrandonWM for your important change to the Template:Support page. After all, I am human, I can make small mistakes, here we can act voluntarily as fast and slow. This message really came from the heart, thanks again 🙂 <3 Hey Türkiye Message? 17:41, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

not "valid" characters

hi, you notified me on Reception123's talk page, I want to tell you something, apparently this link -> [[Special:CentralAuth?target=Taichi]] should work, but it appears in red and not in blue, right? Well, it turns out that, when entering that link, the "?" is changed to "%3F" and the "=" to "%3D", so the link it "breaks", so that this does not happen, we have to put the complete link [https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth?target=Taichi], in exchange for appearing a small box with an arrow, Can't we enter by inserting a specific code so that the characters are not changed? (like this <ASpecificCodeName>Special:CentralAuth?target=Taichi</ASpecificCodeName>) No se (talk) 21:21, 17 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@No se: Hi. I'm going to be quite honest when I say that I have no clue. Maybe suggest a fix via Discord or IRC? That might be a better venue for your question. As an alternative, you can always post your question on the Community noticeboard. Thanks - BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 16:15, 18 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@No se: You can solve this by using the {{=}} template. Also, this is intended behavior, so please don't file a bug report. Bbbtest (talk) 09:38, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Other special characters should be replaced too. For example, | should be replaced with {{!}}. Bbbtest (talk) 09:40, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re: template sandbox(es)

I don't know if there is a local policy about template sandboxes, but I do know that this policy exists on WMF wikis. Bbbtest (talk) 02:43, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The policy in question has not been established on Miraheze, and as a result is invalid for consideration here unless an RfC were to be reopened requesting establishment of said guidelines. You said you didn’t know. If you don’t know, then please try and ask questions before making bold actions. Bold actions are fine, but only if you have knowledge of the situation. In the future, please try and attempt that mindset before undoing edits two times in a row. Please do not revert the edit again without consulting me first, as that would constitute an edit war, per the 3-strike rule. Thank you. BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 03:18, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Policy wise, we tend to take cues from Wikimedia when they fit; if it is not disruptive to operations or out of place for how Miraheze works, then there's no reason not to base from the Wikimedia cue. In this case, you might argue that sandboxing should be redirected to publictestwiki with its close ties to the central community. With limited exception testing is discouraged on Meta because there is a project dedicated to testing, a circumstance that does not exist on WMF. It's a discussion that could be brought to the AN or community portal, to see what more widespread thoughts are about this. When that's settled, the discussion can be referred upon or even mentioned in documentation so we have a clear opinion and don't need to base on personal opinions alone when the question comes again. As it stands I'm glad the preceding exchange averted 'edit war' and is just a civil discussion with room to grow. --Raidarr (talk) 04:26, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Definitely, which is why I labeled it as out-of-scope as opposed to spam or vandalism. I believe the user (both) were acting in good faith. It’s just something not necessarily for Meta. Or possibly even for Meta, but we have the general sandbox page and personal sandboxes instead of individual template sandboxes. BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 04:29, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, Wikimedia has a test wiki too (several, in fact!), but they use inline tests (on subpages) because templates and modules may have many dependencies that may not be easy to copy to another wiki. Bbbtest (talk) 21:58, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Also, sorry for reverting your edit twice. I thought that the policy did exist, but that you were not aware of it. Bbbtest (talk) 21:59, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No worries, it happens. In the future it'd just be preferred to ask questions before assuming things, especially repeatedly. Again though, no hard feelings at all. It happens. :) BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 00:16, 7 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not exactly a hard policy, but the {{Documentation}} template does say Editors can experiment in this template’s sandbox (create | mirror) and testcases (create) pages. Bbbtest (talk) 08:30, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I should note that our template space is a bloody mess in general; much of it is straight imported from Wikipedia with minimal editing or attempts to integrate with Miraheze customs. So what you see there is not necessarily correct. But that's why a broader community discussion could help on this subject. --Raidarr (talk) 13:43, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Raidarr: I consider myself to be decently proficient at template programming. If you want, I could help with improving templates. Bbbtest (talk) 14:30, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Impact.miraheze.org

Hi Brandon, I helped Liset Strijker with setting up the impact.miraheze.org wiki. Due to little activity the wiki was closed. Liset is not able to re-open te wiki. Can you help us? Regards, Tim, Timboliu999 (talk) 05:46, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Do you know who operates the Subconscious Impact account? It is this account which created the wiki and has full executive rights there. If it cannot be reached then a somewhat lengthy process is needed to assume control, which is detailed here. This would come after the wiki is reopened which must be completed by a Steward. Neither Brandon nor I am presently Stewards, and unfortunately they have a bit of a backlog but I'll see if I can tap one later today. --Raidarr (talk) 08:33, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, I know who operates the wiki. This is Liset Strijker. I will ask her to reply to this message. I will ask her to join this discussion. Maybe after the approval of Liset she can make me a bureaucrat, so I can help her re-opening the wiki? Timboliu999 (talk) 20:46, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
She can reopen it herself via Special:ManageWiki via the aforementioned account if she does have access to the account and does operate the wiki. If she has lost access or is not the wiki's operator otherwise, the discussion is more complicated at least as far as right assignment goes. --Raidarr (talk) 20:55, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
hi, I am indeed the one who operates the Subconscious Impact account. Unfortunately, I cannot reopen it. Somehow it doesn't work through above mentioned steps. 188.206.68.111 10:46, 18 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I notice you are not logged in. This is the primary issue, coming down to the fact we cannot 100% verify you are the person who operates the account and so, the wiki. Are you able to access your account, perhaps by resetting password through email or other recovery steps? You'd know if the 'other steps' apply, if not they were not set up. If neither you will need to create a new one and we'll start the process of 'taking on' the wiki. --Raidarr (talk) 12:32, 19 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

One star for you too!

User Award that Closes Nominations Tiredly
Thank you very much for closing my candidacy so quickly. We need people who close nominations tirelessly in Miraheze. Thank you, Be present, always be at Miraheze! I take my hat off to you. I think you should buy that hat. --Hey Türkiye Message? 15:26, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Link to WikiTide

Can you send a link to WikiTide? I thought it better to ask here than continue discussion on the perms page. Do you have discord? Globe - (TalkContributionsCA) 22:49, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I do have Discord. The link is https://meta.wikitide.com. Discord is BWM#6978. BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 22:51, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So what’s the difference between that and Miraheze? Are they affiliated at all? Just joined. I’m X. Globe - (TalkContributionsCA) 23:01, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No they aren’t. WikiTide is an alternative to Miraheze as quite frankly, it’s apparent that Miraheze won’t survive much longer. BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 23:03, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, sadly. But why abandon what we have already started? Why start over? Globe - (TalkContributionsCA) 23:05, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Because Miraheze as a system is too broken to continue. It’s no use trying to rectify because of how the system is set. BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 23:07, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I honestly don’t get the point. It’s just the same policies, same people running it, what’s the difference? Globe - (TalkContributionsCA) 23:08, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Different policies for sure. A lot will be adapted from Miraheze but for one, our Content Policy will be a lot stricter. I recommend you join, but obviously it’s up to you. BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 23:11, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I did join! My username is X. Globe - (TalkContributionsCA) 23:12, 11 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
