Translation administrator granted - 2021-08-3

Hi, Agent Isai. An administrator on Meta has granted you the translationadmin user group permission, which gives you the ability to mark updated source pages for translation and prepare additional, untranslated pages for translation, among a few other permissions related to the administration of translated pages. You should also be aware that the granting of this user group is at the discretion of Meta administrators, so different administrators will have slightly different criteria for granting. Likewise, just as it is a discretionary appointment, revocation is also at the discretion of Meta administrators and, again, each will have their own criteria for revocation.

Nevertheless, the following are some of the main guidelines for translation administrators. If you follow these guidelines completely, it is unlikely your translation administrator user group should ever be revoked.

• Don't mark or prepare pages too quickly. Administration of translation pages is handled by a system maintenance bot, FuzzyBot, whose tasks are handled by jobrunner1 and jobrunner2. Accordingly, it is strongly recommended that you check FuzzyBot's recent edits and log actions to see when it has completed your request. A good rule of thumb is to wait approximately 5-10 minutes between marking pages
• Noticeboards and talk pages should never be translated. Due to the dynamically changing nature of the content on these pages, translation of these pages is undesirable, so they should never be prepared for translation. If you note that a noticeboard is proposed for translation (i.e., pages which contain translation tags but which haven't yet been marked), it's best to remove the < and > characters from the given discussion thread(s) that note the example translation syntax, to remove the noticeboard or talk page from pages proposed for translation
• Never remove a translated page from the translation system. This is not recommended, mainly because the translation page units (in Translations: namespace) remain. Instead, if you believe a page should no longer be translated, start a new thread at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard recommending the given translated subpage(s) for deletion by an administrator. Once all the translated subpage(s) have been deleted, then a page can be removed from the translation system
• Make use of tvar and [[Special:MyLanguage]] tags. The former is especially helpful with translating the displayed text of wikilinks (including interwiki wikilinks) and external links, and the latter is particularly helpful where the linked destination page is translated into languages other than English
• Consider the utility and usefulness before preparing new pages for translation. For example, additional untranslated pages in Tech: namespace aimed at explaining to system administrators how to perform certain procedures are unlikely to ever be read in languages other than English. A best practice here is to propose new pages for translation at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard and obtain consensus there to prepare the page
• Ignore, generally, pages in userspace proposed for translation. Often these are userspace drafts contain translation tags. You can usually just ignore these. If in doubt, you can ask at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard
• Bookmark this help page on MediaWiki.org. Aimed specifically at translation administrators like you, it contains very useful, well written information on the Translate extension's translation administration tools

In addition, a couple of technical limitations regarding the translationadmin user group:

1. You cannot mark fully protected pages that have been updated. If you see such a page that needs to be re-marked, please leave a note on the user talk page of any administrator on Meta or at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard; and,
2. You cannot delete translated subpages. Again, you can recommend long outdated and unmaintained translations, as well as poor translations, for deletion by leaving a note on the user talk page of any administrator on Meta or at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard

Helllo, I want my block to be appealed. I listened after you told me to stop copying pages, and I copied pages because I didn't notice that Polandball Wiki was being imported. Because of this, I seriously regret copying pages after I realized I wasn't supposed to copy the pages, and because Denatidium told me that copying pages was unnecessary. Why would you decline my request?

@Tankman fan 44: Hey there, did you by any chance read the decline reason? It was declined because it lacked details, simply saying "I'd like a wiki for X" is insufficient reason. A question

If you are a wiki creator, then why do you need to request wikis? I have seen some other wiki creators do this but since you can create wikis, it is kind of pointless to request them since you and the other wiki creators just end up accepting your own requests. @Blubabluba9990: Though we can use Special:CreateWiki to manually create wikis, it is standard practice to request a wiki and give a long, detailed description of our wiki in it and then approve it so that it is not unfair to others who have to write a description while we can just create wikis ourselves left and right. @Sperosdurell: Our intentions are never to scold users or bite the newcomer but instead to help you out. As for gaining attention for you wiki, perhaps try joining groups with interests similar to the scope of your wiki and linking your wiki to them. Miraheze Meta employs Translate and it works well. Additionally, maybe the Wikimedia Incubator extension could come in handy in organizing the wiki into different languages. Interwiki

I understand that you are concerned about putting a random one to be an interwiki administrator. More simply, I've never vandelized a wiki in my life, let alone spam. I asked to be added locally as an interwiki admin on these wikis only.

Disastrous Wikis Wiki

You seem to say that this wiki would violate the Content Policy because it "has the sole purpose of spreading unsubstantiated insult, hate or rumours against a person or group of people", but it doesn't. In terms for the "A wiki must not create problems which make it difficult for other wikis", as I said before, it will only be about closed wikis or wikis that are there with the owner's approval (unless they are in the "Average Wikis" category since that category is for average wikis, not bad ones). Irrespective of the controls you try to place on it, there is strong precedence for Miraheze that this type of topic simply invites more drama than even other wikis dedicated to negative topics, which are already somewhat a stretch. By name, by subject matter and by the provisions of content policy, this cannot be done nor can it be lawyered with promises of 'doing it right this time'. The mere precedence of allowing it is a problem. You can say 'it doesn't' as a rebuttal, but that does not address the layered concerns that the meta community in general has with this form of wiki. --Raidarr (talk) 11:48, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

@Raidarr: Right, but the Content Policy only says that "it must not create problems which make it difficult for other wikis". This wiki will only be about wikis that are there with the owner's permission or are closed (with the exception of average wikis because they're considered average, not bad.). Considering average on a domain, page header, etc flagrantly saying 'disastrous' is a bit of a conflation. Common in QP, but present nonetheless. Anyway, I would personally not go for it on principle irrespective of promises that would probably neuter its article count to a very low volume if followed accurately (ex, would defer on communities without a truly established owner as they often are on principle when they reach a certain size on Miraheze or Fandom), but I will defer to Agent for what he might think in detail. --Raidarr (talk) 23:32, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Indeed, or cases where users claim ownership (such as on Miraheze) that they do not actually have, leaving a gap for reasonable community or fellow staffer complaint. It's typically not the way of wikis for Fandom or Miraheze to be 'owned' in the eyes of the platforms, even if users claim to own them. I suggest sticking to mh:dict until it's in a good state for pages and content. If you prove you can make the wiki functional (ie, there's enough stuff that people outside would come in and find the content useful) and so so with a few more of your wikis, you can be trusted to create wikis with a chance of them having a future. @YellowFrogger: I am so so sorry for the late reply. What you need to do is select "URL prefix" when it asks you to select a property type. On the screen after that, click "HTML tag" to prove your ownership of the subdomain and then insert everything in the long content= tag into Special:ManageWiki/settings -> SEO -> Google HTML tag and you should be able to verify your ownership of the subdomain. My personal experience is that it is so but I also took other steps to ensure my wiki was properly indexed such as adding WikiSEO descriptions on many pages among a few things. It also depends on the traffic influx to your wiki. If your wiki covers a topic which has little interest then it may not attract a lot of people and thus may also not get that boost. Hi, Agent Isai. An administrator on Meta has granted you the patroller user group permission, which gives you the ability to patrol recent changes and new pages of other Miraheze users (both registered and anonymous) who are not either autopatrolled or an administrator. In addition, this group also means that your edits are autopatrolled, so other patrollers or administrators don't have to patrol your edits. You should also be aware that the granting of this user group is at the discretion of Meta administrators, so different administrators will have slightly different criteria for granting. Likewise, just as it is a discretionary appointment, revocation is also at the discretion of Meta administrators and, again, each will have their own criteria for revocation.

In the medium-term, plans are in the works to develop a Meta Patrollers School, likely led by one or two active administrators, that will provide a comprehensive set of guidelines for patrollers and answers to commonly asked questions.

Nevertheless, the following are some of the main guidelines for patrolling. If you follow these guidelines completely, it is unlikely your patroller user group should ever be revoked. In technical terms, even when you find content that requires deletion by an administrator or otherwise requires remediation, undoing, reverting, or rolling back (if you are also a rollbacker, of course), you should always first mark as patrolled any revisions regardless of whether that content is destined to remain extant to the page or even on Meta entirely.

1. When patrolling talk pages, user talk pages, and noticeboards (in Main and Meta namespaces), you should first check to see whether the user properly signed their posts using four tildes (~~~~). If they have not, you should add {{unsigned}} by substitution ({{subst:Unsigned|username|00:01, 31 August 2020 (UTC)}}), where username is the user's username or IP address and the timestamp is the full timestamp from the diff page. As a best practice, you should also link to the diff in your edit summary, so other administrators and patrollers can easily tie your modification to the original edit being modified. To speed up this process, you can copy the diff-permalink user script from line 5 of this page into either your (a) common.js or (b) global.js page (the latter applying globally on all Miraheze wikis);
2. When patrolling the noticeboards, ask yourself whether this topic is on the correct noticeboard. If it is not, you should move it to the correct noticeboard, by either undoing the edit or manually removing the topic (if there have been intervening edits), again linking to the original noticeboard of the topic and the new noticeboard where it was moved in your edit summary. On the new noticeboard, you would simply paste in the topic (including the section header), linking to the diff page as in the first step. An example edit summary might be Moved [[Special:Diff/######|this discussion]] from [[Stewards' noticeboard]] to [[Community noticeboard|here]], where ###### represents the numeric revision ID of the originally posted topic;
3. Also when patrolling the noticeboards and talk pages (including user talk pages), as a best practice, take care to kindly fix any formatting mistakes (such as excess line breaks or incorrect wiki code), per WP:LISTGAP;
4. If something requires deletion, you can add {{delete}} to the top of the page in question, taking care to follow the instructions on that template page;
5. If you come across a user who repeatedly makes the same mistakes, send them a guidance note on their user talk page, informing of the steps need to edit and post constructively on Meta; and, finally,
6. If in doubt whether something requires remediation or not, patrol it, and then ask any administrator via their user talk page or at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard if any further action needs to be taken.

In case you don't know, I'm Agent Isai, a volunteer here at Miraheze. I helped the wiki migrate to Miraheze and have held bureaucrat since the move. Apart from that, I am not really actively involved in local affairs other than counter-vandalism and responding to inquiries raised by users. As such, I don't really know the specifics of your case as your ban was before my time.

Per what I can see in the logs, you were banned on the Discord server for immaturity and on the wiki also for "immaturity, being banned here, bickering, etc." Per what I'm told, you displayed a high level of incompetency during your stay on the wiki. Competence is required of all editors. I discussed your case with other administrators and users and one of the comments I received was "anyone who knows him will disagree [that he is 15]". You are suspected of being between the ages of 9 and 12 and though there is no proof you are, there is also no proof you aren't. Additionally, you were observed to have made transphobic comments on Mtcat101's Discord server which is worrying of editors on Polandball Wiki.

Now, in regards to Discord, I have received proof that you have not deleted your account. While we at Miraheze assume good faith, it is still strange and rather contradictory to find your account still active after you said it was deleted. Additionally, you were noted to have recently been active on a Discord server.

@YellowFrogger: Generally, we don't create guides on pages that already have a MediaWiki.org equivalent. For information on signatures, one can look to mw:Help:Signatures so I don't think a Miraheze-specific page is needed as our documentation may fall out of date while MediaWiki.org's likely won't. @TylerMagee: For posterity, it was YellowFrogger who warned you against "unconstructive edits" on the Stewards' noticeboard (though I myself do think it was unwarranted). But yes, please only request locks when you've a good reason for it (i.e. blatant vandalism-only accounts, long-term abusers, etc.).

As for the "lock"ing example, it was only an example of how we don't lock users for petty reasons. You won't be locked as (as far as I can see) you have not violated any policy which would require you be locked.

Now, while you're here, I would like to remind you that Phabricator is only for technical tasks. You recently requested templates be added to Template Wiki in T8387 which: 1) was an out-of-scope request and 2) was incorrectly marked as Unbreak Now!, which is a special priority status given only to tasks which seriously affect the farm as a whole (like downtime, security issues, etc.). @Tankman fan 44: It's pretty tricky if you want people to be interested in the content of your wiki to start editing, as people only come when they're interested or when a wiki is already big. I suggest you put your wiki on Gazetteer of wikis and post it on Community noticeboard. @FatBurn0000: I based myself off precedent of not approving excessive wiki requests, especially when the requester's current set of wiki's aren't getting much use. Do remember that Miraheze runs on finite resources, some of your wikis have little use. I examined all 7 of your approved wiki requests and saw many of them have little, if any use. In fact, one of them has been closed pursuant to the Dormancy Policy and another was used to troll DarkMatterMan4500 before he blocked the LTA sockpuppet. I would be much more comfortable in approving your requests if you demonstrated you can handle so many wikis and maintain them. Agent Isai ^{Talk to me!} 21:52, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

Okay, but I have some explanations:

1. I am planning to work more on mh:loveablevehicles:Lovable Vehicles Wiki.
2. The same thing that applies above applies with mh:closedwebsites:Closed Websites Wiki.
3. I am going to ask others for ideas for mh:godawfulschools:Godawful Schools Wiki, and if no one has any ideas, I will close it.
4. To be honest, mh:badwords:Bad Words Wiki honestly got boring. I have closed it now, and if anyone is interested, then they are free to adopt it.
5. I will work more on mh:reverseloathsomecharacters:Reverse Loathsome Characters Wiki when I finish my sandbox page on mh:reverseawfulmovies:Reverse Awful Movies Wiki.
6. Fabulous Celebrites Wiki was made for celebrities that make more than one type of media. I was planning on seeing if I could get some pages from Qualitipedia wikis imported there.

@FatBurn0000: It's really recommended that you don't create wikis just for the sake of creating, because the maintenance of the Miraheze wiki servers is paid for with the finances of donations, and not counting the MediaWiki system. So it's highly important that we prefer a user to keep just one wiki full of interesting articles and edits than a user who asks for multiple wikis and in the end become ghosts, weighing servers with useless wikia. And as Agent Isai mentioned above, you've used many wikis that you've already created some and don't use them until today.. For this and other reasons I recommend that you do a test run on an annotation wiki with something personal and see if you really have any interest in the wiki that requested (by creating a draft test article on the wiki, if you feel the desire and happiness you were having at the time you were creating the wiki, then yes, you can request a new one if you plan to create content in the future). Otherwise, it's an extra ghost wiki to weigh on the servers, due to the owners' lack of interest. --YellowFrogger • (Talk — ✐) 04:00, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
