User:Redmin/Requesting a Wiki

From Miraheze Meta, Miraheze's central coordination wiki

So you recently found Miraheze and would like to request a wiki? That's sweet! This page will guide you through requesting wikis.

Prerequisites[edit source]

  • A Miraheze Account
  • A Credit Card It's not a rumour! Miraheze hosts all wikis for free and does not show any advertisements! If you would like to help us out, you should consider making a donation.
  • Reading Miraheze policies: By requesting a wiki on Miraheze, you automatically agree to the Miraheze Content Policy and Dormancy Policy as well as other global policies.

Steps for Requesting a Wiki[edit source]

  1. Head over to Special:RequestWiki
  2. Fill out the form:
Choose a subdomain: Where do you want your wiki to be located? Write an obvious subdomain for your wiki that is not already in use (you can check this by visiting that subdomain) making sure that it does not contain any alphanumeric character like -, _ etc.
Choose a wiki name: What do your want your wiki's name to be? Write it here.
Select the default language: What should the default language of your wiki be? Select it here. Note that the language selected here will not be possible to be changed by logged out users unless you enable an extension for that from Special:ManageWiki/extensions on your wiki afterwards. You will be able to change this on Special:ManageWiki on your wiki at any time you want after your wiki has been created.
Categorise the wiki: How do you want your wiki to be categorised? It is set to Uncategorised by default but you are strongly encouraged to change it if a proper category exists for your wiki's topic. This will be used to display your wiki's name on Special:WikiDiscover.
Decide if you want your wiki to be private: Do you want your wiki to be private, in other words, not readable by everyone? If so, check "Private wiki (not readable by everyone)". Note that you will be able to add other users to the Member user group once your wiki has been created so that they are able to read and edit your wiki if you want. You will be able to change this on Special:ManageWiki on your wiki any time you want after your wiki has been created.
Write a reason: Why are you requesting the wiki? What type of information do you plan to document on it? Write it here and don't be shy, this is perhaps the most important step when requesting a wiki as Wiki Creators will review your request on the basis of this. It is good if the reason is descriptive (but not mandatory at all!).
3. Submit the form: Review what you wrote and submit the form.

...and you are done! It was very easy, wasn't it? Your wiki request will now soon be reviewed by a volunteer Wiki Creator.
