User:NotAracham/RaidarrArchive

From Miraheze Meta, Miraheze's central coordination wiki

The following is a collection of guides originally created by the user Raidarr during their tenure at Miraheze. With their permission, I have moved these guides to a central location for archival until they can be published as proper help documentation.

The following guides have been salvaged:

In addition, the following not-quite-a-guide was salvaged from their userpage, verbatim:

Troubleshooting hacks[edit | edit source]

I'll probably make this an essay but I'll compile them here until I have enough to make a page out of. These are things I do to skip certain hurdles, steps or points of confusion, mostly in context of performing CVT or general troubleshooting.

  • "I don't know what wiki this is about": This is not foolproof but you can often find the answer by looking up the user in Special:CentralAuth. You have your answer if they have one wiki where they are bureaucrat and sysop. On Discord where user is authenticated (mainly in context of the support section), look up the user mention in #auth-logs. Having CA bookmarked for easy access is generally a good idea if you volunteer with any global reach. Again, not foolproof and you should use this trick with good sense; if you're fairly but not completely sure, ask if it is that wiki before running with it. If it's indeterminate then the user needs to specify themselves. It's ideal for them to specify anyway to save time, but a majority of people realistically won't.
  • If you are on desktop, have rollback and are looking at a user with lots of vandalism to hit: middle click rollback links one after another. Refresh and see if you missed any. I don't have tricks to make this easy on mobile unfortunately, unless you turn on the setting in preference where you don't get a confirmation screen (I don't use this setting and I imagine it's rather dangerous to have enabled anyway).
  • VisualEditor not working: Basic steps to try first: if in talk or another non-standard namespace, make sure it's enabled first via Special:ManageWiki/namespaces. It should be the Edit button with an additional option of Edit source. If a bit of time has passed and it still does not appear, add the following script to the wiki's MediaWiki:Common.js: m:User:Dimpizzy/scripts/addmissingbutton.js. Some skins play worse with VE than others and VE is generally a pain in the ass. If this doesn't do it then there might be a deeper issue or MediaWiki SRE needs to be poked.
  • Red box with error code: Probably needs to be referred to a phabricator task or a message to MediaWiki SRE if you know them outright if the error is received consistently.
  • Infoboxes in general: Two paths. 1. Suggest PortableInfobox as generally easier to use especially for those with a Fandom background, and refer them to the Builder that comes with it (is linked in the interface where you enable the extension). 2. If someone is dead set on wikipedia style infoboxes, refer them here, and for an implementation example refer them here. Use Special:Export on wikipedia to pull the template and Special:Import on the local wiki to use it. Avoid option 3 at all costs: playing whack a mole with wikipedia infoboxes.
