User:Dmehus/Planned RfCs and community discussions

From Miraheze Meta, Miraheze's central coordination wiki

The following is a list of planned Requests for Comment and community discussions. Global and Meta only Requests for Comment will be listed in turn first. Following that, any global community discussions will be listed next under Community noticeboard, and any Meta only community discussions will be listed at under Meta:Community portal.

Requests for Comment[edit source]

Global[edit source]

Pending[edit source]

  1. Interwiki administrator changes—multiple proposals, including potentially one or two alternatives for each relating to the wiki location of the global Interwiki table, the specific roles (global and Meta, potentially) authorized to modify the global Interwiki table (whether on Meta or Login wiki), when and under what conditions the global Interwiki table may be modified, and some very modest changes to add a bit more local control over who is eligible to serve as local interwiki administrator (stewards will still grant rights). Will also further enhance and strengthen the local interwiki administrator eligibility criteria and add an inactivity clause (likely 12 months, to global and, optionally, local interwiki administrator)
  2. Ombudsman Commission RfC
  3. Steward minor amendments RfC, mainly related to clarifying the inactivity and revocation provisions
  4. Global roles omnibus RfC to clarify and harmonize inactivity, clarify, and harmonize inactivity and resignation clauses and, potentially, add procedural readdition clauses, provided users didn't resign "under a cloud"

Closed[edit source]

  1. Dormancy Policy clarify whether wikis closed by local staff are eligible to adoption in the same way that they are if they were closed pursuant to the policy, in addition to clarifying whether a private wiki may be adopted by members or not - DONE
  2. RfC versus community discussion RfC to better clarify and define when each should or may be used and under what conditions, who may close, whether and under what conditions early closure is possible, etc. (multiple related proposals are possible here) - DONE
  3. Code of Conduct Commission further changes RfC, mainly relating to election administration, byelections where a vacancy exists (i.e., the requested number of candidates did not apply in the most recent annual general election) or becomes available (due to a midterm resignation), who is eligible to close the CoCC elections and by-elections; an additional proposal is also likely, mainly relating to clarifying the CoCC's mandate and clarifying when it can issue public statements (related to cases heard, referred, or just general Code of Conduct issues its commissioners have noticed) '- CoCC disbanded

Meta only[edit source]

None that I can think of, at the moment, but feel free to add

Community-wide (global) discussions[edit source]

  1. Change default VisualEditor configuration to use the single edit tab, enable VE in all namespaces by default for those that have opted in to this beta feature on wikis on which it is enabled (not including MediaWiki and Module namespaces, obviously), and also ensuring that New Wikitext Editor is also enabled in all namespaces regardless of whether VE's visual editing mode is enabled
  2. Clarify whether a wiki that was closed by the bureaucrat rather than inactivity is eligible to be adopted pursuant to the Dormancy Policy.

Meta only community discussions[edit source]

  1. Batch proposal to enable several non-controversial, mainly maintenance extensions, on Meta, including Extension:SoftRedirector, Extension:DeleteUserPages, Extension:OrphanedTalkPages, and Extension:RightFunctions
Extension:SoftRedirector, Extension:OrphanedTalkPages, and Extension:RightFunctions were enabled by Meta bureaucrat and steward John in this log action, following my request on IRC, at #miraheze connect. Dmehus (talk) 01:12, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
  2. Proposal to enable Extension:StructuredDiscussions on Meta on an opt-in basis on a user's own user talk page (typically done as a beta feature), and on request, usually with a brief community discussion on a companion talk page or at Meta:Community portal or community noticeboard, as applicable, on select talk pages
  3. Proposal to enable Extension:WikiForum (not SocialProfile, though) for a technical support desk help forum, per a suggestion of Lakelimbo and also per my own idea to better provide technical support to customers, and focus community noticeboard mainly related to community wide discussions and proposals
  4. Requests for Comment namespace—to aid topic ban enforcement, and also to better manage RfCs. Lots of possibilities would stem from this. Could also be a community noticeboard discussion, but this is on Meta, so likely within Meta clerk discretion here
