...what next?[edit source]
How about setting up experimental non-central instance that could be used by few (if not all Wikis) and that could be the base for future attempts to build up central wikibase instance?
Is Gratisdata data already step in that direction? What is needed to get it developed faster and in more sustainable way? ZBlace (talk) 08:46, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- Users are free to set up their own Wikibase instance but I would strongly oppose making an official global Wikibase instance as we do not have enough users to actively moderate this project. Just take a look at Commons, Dev Wiki, and Template Wiki. There simply aren't enough volunteers to oversee the project. Agent Isai Talk to me! 16:24, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Agent Isai OK that is a valid argument...
- What can be done meanwhile to build this capacity?

- More volunteers interested in Miraheze community and technical infrastructure and a better demonstrated use case. From what I've observed Gratisdata is a poor clone of Wikipedia based data and a case in point for why there would be no unique niche for a function such as this. As well, the diversity of information and presentation on Miraheze damages attempts at making common cores. I would probably focus on a more specialist ideal with this instead, which appeals to a particular type of wiki rather than a one-shoe-fits-all offered by Miraheze itself. --Raidarr (talk) 12:55, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Raidarr lets talk more on this in 2023! -- ZBlace (talk) 17:51, 29 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Raidarr @Agent Isai hope you had good start of 2023.
- For issues of few users to actively moderate projects: Where can one see stats of Commons, Dev Wiki, and Template Wiki? Which are the worse aspects/fails?What would be in your opinion volume of working hours for this to be in good shape and sustainable?
- For better demonstrated use case: Would wikibase just for Commons (for multilingual search+linking) be an option? (can imagine coordination/collaboration with Wikimedia, Creative Commons... on this)
