Propose to redirect this / merge it with Requests and proposals[edit source]

Due to the similarity with that page, I think there's no reason to have two pages on virtually the same topic. Therefore, I think we should perhaps bring some elements from this page to the other one, and then redirect this to the other. Reception123 (talk) (C) 08:09, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Reception123: When I patrolled this page, I initially thought about redirecting it to Requests and proposals, but the more I thought about it, Requests by its very nature is a very broad term that could refer to requests that are unsuitable for inclusion on that narrower page. Also, it could potentially be a cross-namespace redirect to Category:Requests, so because of that ambiguity, I favoured either (a) creating a disambiguation page, sysop-protected to prevent modification to the source page and ensure we don't end up evolving it into a duplicative content page, or (b) deleting the page. Given that it has been repeatedly recreated, it does seem like it would be more useful as a disambiguation page. The fact that it is sysop-protected and uncategorized should reflect that it is just that: a disambiguation page, which is essentially an ambiguous redirect. What are your thoughts? I mean, I did consider possibly renaming Requests and proposals to Requests, leaving a trailing redirect, and converting it into a disambiguation page, but I also considered that requests and proposals has been the likely single largest source of user confusion in terms of the vague or incorrect descriptions for each noticeboard. Also, I think that page is a bit needlessly complex, as I don't think it's necessary to first organize it by pan Miraheze and Meta only. Rather, it should be first arranged by topical subject matter. Moreover, as a disambiguation page, it doesn't need a wikitable format, so I feel like this gives an opportunity to start fresh with Requests in a true disambiguation style page. Over the next month or two, we can migrate the links from requests and proposals into requests, adding section subdivisions as needed, and then history merge and redirect requests and proposals into requests. Could something like that work? Dmehus (talk) 16:22, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Dmehus: Yes, that sounds reasonable, as long as in the long run only one page remains as to not cause confusion and repetition. Pages from the other page should definitely be added here, as for example, on this page, Requests for Stewardship and Requests for global rights are not present. The most important aspect is of course to have a clear summary of what each page is for. Reception123 (talk) (C) 16:31, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Reception123: Yeah, we can work on adding those. Until we add them, those pages are linked at requests and proposals. 100% on the descriptions, though. This gives us time to discuss, privately presumably, the best way to describe each page's purpose, as the main thing that concerned me about the descriptions on requests and proposals was the way we described Requests for Comment and Stewards' noticeboard. I believe that may have been, or quite likely was, the primary or chief source of malformed/out of scope RfCs and users asking technical questions on stewards' noticeboard rather than on community noticeboard. This way, we've got a second chance to get it right. I'm not opposed to the wikitable format, either, but if we can simplify the wikitext into page sections, I think that's always a good thing. The challenging thing will be whether to history merge in the translated subpage history or not. Dmehus (talk) 16:48, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Addition of Guide to writing wiki requests[edit source]

Request redirects to this page. But it used to be a redirect to guide to writing wiki requests, and "guide to writing wiki requests" does include the word "request", so could it be added?  Anpang📨  05:47, 15 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Anpang, thank you for your request. Requests seems to be exclusively a disambiguation page to make certain and different types of requests, whether globally or on Meta Wiki, whereas guide to writing wiki requests is a documentation page/community essay. On that basis, I'm inclined to say no; however, we could, potentially, add a link to Special:RequestWiki, and include a link in to guide to writing wiki requests in the annotation/description of that request special page as the English Wikipedia policy prohibiting two bluelinks for any one disambiguation on a given disambiguation page does not apply here. Dmehus (talk) 05:51, 15 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The latter one I agree.  Anpang📨  05:54, 15 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
