I want to volunteer

I am about to get a diploma in computer science, have hosted my own website since 2019, including briefly my own mediawki instance, have a reasonable but not extensive experience with php, and have a bunch of linux experience. I used to host my own pleroma instance. Would I be a good fit or am I underqualified as a volunteer? I am over 16 and willing to sign an NDA. Immanuelle (talk) 01:28, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

I'd say you are, it's not like we are asking for people who know mediawiki like the back of their hand, this is unpaid after all. As long as you have a good base, everything else more experienced people in SRE can probably teach as needed. MediaWiki EM is what I am interested in, I am a former Miraheze SRE member (MW-admin and puppet-user) I mainly focused on SSL/DNS, Jobrunner issues, and other tasks as needed. I have been apart of the project for 6 years. Zppix (Meta | talk to me) 03:00, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

I’d be happy to do some SWE work (as it’d be what I’m most qualified for - could try out SRE if it’s more urgently needed). I’m a student of Computer Science at Oxford University, with 1yoe experience in a frontend web dev role and now transitioning into a prod eng role at a large HFT/quant firm (So maybe in a couple months I’ll be better suited to the SRE role). I'm interested in helping with the Security Engineering. I work full time as a Senior Cyber Security Consultant with normal responsibilities including Vulnerability Management, Incident Response, Security Architecture, and many other things. I hold a valid Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) certification and I'm in good standing in the industry.

I'm already committed to two other volunteer projects (FIRST Robotics), and running IT System for a local fundraiser. I've got limited time available but I would be happy to dedicate that time to Miraheze to help keep the project alive.

While I presume I could be a wee bit in over my head, I do have experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, (and Python, Lua, OOP etc.), although unfortunately, to date, not much experience with PHP, although I would be more than willing to put in the time to improve my knowledge and skills. Unfortunately, I do not speak any other languages fluently, but languages are one of my strongest passions and I am currently learning various languages at a base level. I studied Spanish (for GCSE) and I can understand some of the basics of French, too. Sometimes I do struggle with communication, being autistic, but I have found that is more in close-friend social interactions rather than more technical, 'professional' environments.

I am potentially interested in helping out. Miraheze has helped us host https://nonbinary.wiki for years and although we are going to be leaving I'd like to do what I can to give back to the project. My time is quite limited so I'd need to have a conversation about specifically how much work is expected from me. I am qualified for and interested in Site Reliability Engineers, Security Engineers, MediaWiki Engineer, Software Engineer (Developer). Roughly ordered by my interest.I have an MSc in Computer Science with specific focus in software engineering practice, data visualization, and software security. PHP was my first programming language so I have used it on and off for over a decade. And I have a similar amount of experience with JS. I maintain MediaWiki sites for community projects (not farms though). I also have experience with nginx and proxmox. I currently work as a software engineer. General Nuisance – Possible Security Reviewer or MediaWiki Engineer .

Hello, I was offered as being of potential relevance to either Security Reviewer or MediaWiki Engineer roles. I have a baseline knowledge of MediaWiki (I am an admin on the UTAU Fandom Wiki where I fixed a fair few bugs, mainly relating to CSS, which I am very comfortable with). UFW is a very small community however, and thus a very different environment from somewhere like Miraheze, which is a full-blown Wikifarm.

I am in a community college program at the moment learning SysAdmin, NetAdmin, WebDev and Help Desk skills, along with basic Cybersecurity. I currently am holding down a full time summer internship as a help desk/IT support analyst role with Canada Revenue Agency and Canada Border Services Agency. I am in the midst of getting my CCNA.

I consider myself fairly comfortable in dealing with people in a support role, as well as with HTML and CSS. I know basic JavaScript and MediaWiki and would be eager to learn more. I would be completely open to learning PHP.

I may also be of use as a Community Engagement specialist due to my experience in a tech support role, and my ability to speak French.

If I am not of much use at the moment, I'd love to apply again in the future, possibly after I am graduated and thus a more fully realized programmer/developer/administrator.

While I may not have the necessary edit counts or pre-required roles, I would say I am qualified enough to take on either Global Sysop/Steward. Also, at this point I believe edit counts shouldn't matter as much as the candidate's potential for the role. I know the community does not really know me that well, but I am willing to answer any questions you may have if I can run for it. I really want to help save Miraheze from going under. I have many years of wiki administrative work under my belt as well. While I don't have many experiences with global roles, I am more than willing to learn and help fulfill their duties. I'd fully support Hypercane for Stewardship, despite the aforementioned lack of fulfillment of the official numerical requirements. If it wasn't for the NDA I'd also have been willing to step up, but I'm not sure that I'm comfortable giving my RL address out to two(?) people who I don't personally know and are located overseas. @Hypercane: You can always file a request at Requests for Stewardship if you wish. – AmandaCath (talk) 17:58, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

An NDA is required for SRE roles as well, a role I believe you've expressed interested in? Any potential successor entity would have to require an NDA to have access to systems with potentially sensitive information. While I am fairly new to Miraheze, I have been on and off various WMF sites for years now, so I would consider myself capable enough to handle these tasks if permitted. I have experience in moderating various things (social spaces, Discord server, etc.), as well as communicating between some users/communities on MediaWiki sites like Fandom or Wikipedia, although these experiences aer obviously limited. I offer all can I do to Miraheze, I am an admin on Nonciclopedia and I often cooperate here with meta to fight vandalism, I also speak English, French and Spanish, I have previous experience with communities like Miraheze on other wikis (primary fandom and wikia at the time), I am also motivated to bring results and support for users across this wiki farm. I am willing to contribute even a little because I think Miraheze did enough for us of Nonciclopedia. I think I am qualified to be a global sysop or a global rollbacker. As a longtime associate of Tizian, I couldn't support his application anymore. I first met Tizian in 2020 and he has been active in the online community since 2016 and has done nothing but an extraordinary job at everything which he has done during this time. Tizian also only has 19 edits, which is a long way from the 1,000 needed to become a Steward. If they had something like 900 edits, I could maybe look past that, but 19 is nowhere near enough to determine a candidate's suitability for a role. Tali64³ (talk) 19:26, 18 June 2023 (UTC)

I worked for Oxfam as fundraising (local) manager and I have experience in managing funds, I also experienced in privacy laws and developed knowledge about communities like fandom and wikia (on wikia I was still executive) I do not recall my username on fandom… anyway I think I may be qualified to be a member of the board and I will be honored if chosen for this hard and delicate position, at last I speak English, French and Spanish (in this order of competence) and I work as free-lance interpreter so I developed the ability of problem-solving and contact with the public… I really think I may be good for this role, I also willing to learn as soon as possible the UK laws concerning legal aspects of Miraheze.
