We had a small attack of vandalism

We had a small attack of vandalism. Blanking:

https://nonsensopedia.org/w/index.php?hidebots=1&tagfilter=mw-blank&limit=500&days=7&title=Specjalna:Ostatnie_zmiany&urlversion=2

and spam from fandom wiki: ip 5.173.232.98

Check if these attacks are related to each other. I think it's one or two people with FANDOM. I am afraid that during the Christmas break they will want to destroy us... Zel Nonsensopedia

I can verify for 100% those user accounts were created by the very same person. There is no evidence that suggests the user created additional (vandalism-only) accounts. Due to privacy reasons, I cannot go into details regarding the used IP addresses, however, if you are under attack again please let us know so we can take additional measures as necessary. Interwiki links

I want my own interwiki links of my wiki Gyaanipedia, which is in many languages. Shaunak Chakraborty (talk)

@Shaunak Chakraborty: Could you please list your wikis with interwiki prefixes so that I (or anyone) can work on it?--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 15:46, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
@開拓者:

Prefixes

  • gyaanipedia
  • higyaanipedia
  • bngyaanipedia
  • tegyaanipedia
  • tagyaanipedia
  • pugyaanipedia
  • gugyaanipedia
  • mrgyaanipedia
  • mlgyaanipedia
  • bhgyaanipedia
  • maigyaanipedia

I will create more language wikis in future.

@Shaunak Chakraborty: Are you sure you want to use them? They won't work as language interwiki prefixes (language interwiki prefixes should be language codes (such as hi or bn).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 00:39, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
@開拓者:

OK I got it then please use these prefixes:-

  • en
  • hi
  • bn
  • te
  • ta
  • pu
  • gu
  • mr
  • ml
  • bh
  • mai

Templates won't update

To whomever it may concern,

On my wiki the Legion Libraries, templates do not seem to be updating. I am currently making many pages, so I simply wish to be able to see my progress as I do so. If there is a way to fix this, please do as such whenever you can. Many thanks!

-Nicholas Kaos 26 December 2018

Hi, this is an issue that is simply resolved using methods described in w:WP:PURGE. I'm not sure if there is an easy way to automate doing so, but if you need help with any of it, let me know. -- Void Whispers 20:56, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

OK, I was first asked for it, and want to ask this question. Are there any ways to add lots of interwikis at once (something like nuke or mass rollback), because it will be like dozens of repetitive work and it would be much easier if I could do it mechanically?--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 14:45, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
P.S. And I personally think that ja should be assigned for http://ja.gyaanipedia.wikia.cominstead, ain't I right?--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 14:48, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

Comment authority is disabled at https://incorrecttohowiki.miraheze.org. What does this mean?--ウソつき (talk) 07:47, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

I think that's due to update, which also happened in Usopedia. You can fix it from Special:ManageWikiPermissions on your wiki by checking comment and possibly commentlinks if you want to allow users adding links.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:41, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Checkuser on Usopedia

開拓者 has illeagal accounts 灌漑水路 and クールトレイン777. He is very malicious LTA and deploying Probaganda at each other UCP sites. He is LTA:KOSHIN and Usopedia had been manipulate by the same person. Please checkuser and lock these accounts.--ガノニマス・インヴェスティゲイター (talk) 09:56, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

  • Hi.I'm cooltrain777,sysop and BC on Usopedia.
ガノニマス・インヴェスティゲイター was created 開拓者 and 灌漑水路 's block request on Usopedia. And his request reason is LTA:KOSHIN.But,開拓者 and 灌漑水路 and クールトレイン777(me) are Usopedia's sysop and BC.
So,I think,ガノニマス・インヴェスティゲイター hate us.So,I think he is LTA.So,please checkuser ガノニマス・インヴェスティゲイター, too.:-) --クールトレイン777 (cooltrain777) ( Userpage / Talk page ) 10:25, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
  •  Comment: I think this CU request made by ガノニマス・インヴェスティゲイター is merely a harassment against us, without any valid evidences. On the other hand, it might be useful to check ガノニマス・インヴェスティゲイター, because the user him/herself might be an LTA. I will lock this account for cross-wiki harassing against certain users.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:32, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
CU is inconclusive, there's no obvious connection. -- Void Whispers 19:12, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Checkuser request on suspected accounts

Hi, I'd like to request for checkuser on suspected accounts on Usopedia and Ansaikuropedia. They are:

They have made votes against me within just an hour or so, and their only contribution is this vote on my user subpage (already reverted). .Trashes and Ekusuto1 were created on Ansaikuropedia probably only for this purpose. It's almost obvious that some kind of vandal or LTA is behind this (as these accounts are all listed here), but I wonder who it actually is. Thanks.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 08:52, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

I'll add this account, as s/he seems to know what's inside our abuse filter, which only those who have experienced them would know.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:00, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
The first six accounts are all the same user, and also Special:CentralAuth/ガノニマス・インヴェスティゲイター. User:未来切手 is on a mobile range, and it's difficult to be certain, but it is not related to the other listed accounts at all. -- Void Whispers 17:48, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
OK, thanks for your reply. 開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 17:50, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Merge users on nonciclopedia.org

First of all, I'll do a lot of requests like this because after moving our wiki from Wikia, users need to get back their accounts but can't sign up with the old user names, so they have to create a temporary account and then merge it with the old. That said, the first request is to merge Special:CentralAuth/Undead Lord with Special:CentralAuth/Revenant Lord, and than merge it with Special:CentralAuth/Revenant Lord temporaneo. The final username must be "Revenant Lord".--Wedhro (talk) 17:28, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Also, the following 10 sockpuppets (!) need to be merged together...

And then the final merge with Special:CentralAuth/Treffo, which is the definitive user name. Happy new year!--Wedhro (talk) 20:30, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi, it appears that the first global merge has failed. I've filed T3947, so that it can be investigated when sysadmins are available. I will be performing more tests on merging accounts once I get more information, and only then will I attempt to merge another user. -- Void Whispers 05:42, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Can anyone please tell me that how I can create a mobile main page of my wiki which is different from the desktop page. Thank you. My wiki https://en.gyaanipedia.co.in Shaunak Chakraborty (talk)

@Shaunak Chakraborty: OK, I've done with the four language code requests above (only on the English Gyaanpedia. Since the work we need to do per your request is increasing in a quadratic manner, I will nominate you as an interwiki admin on January 5th, and also hope that you do it by yourself if it successes).
However, for meta and commons, are you sure you want to use them, since it will overwrite the global interwiki prefixes currently assigned to Miraheze meta and Miraheze commons?--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 09:18, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Permission error on new wiki

Hello, I don't think I've received admin/bureaucrat permissions for the wiki I requested earlier today: https://aclapper.miraheze.org. It looks like there might have been a similar issue with new wikis on Dec 20th, though I'm new to using mediawiki and might have missed something obvious. Thanks for your help. Aclapper (talk) 21:47, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi, user "Hearth to matilda" has the admin/bureaucrat rights. See https://aclapper.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:ListUsers Paladox (talk) 01:23, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
We've resolved the error by deleting the wiki, which was mistakenly created for the wrong user, and recreated it for you. We are currently investigating why the wrong user appears on the wiki request. It appears to be an accidental issue caused by migrating user accounts. -- Void Whispers 03:23, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
Thank you, that worked. Aclapper (talk) 17:00, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

Merge users on nonciclopedia.org (2)

Now that the issues with user merge seems to be fixed, I remind you I asked for the following mega-merge of 10 sockpuppets:

And then the final merge with Special:CentralAuth/Treffo, which is the definitive user name.
Then the temporary user Special:CentralAuth/TheAlePower_temp needs to get the username and contribs of Special:CentralAuth/TheAlePower.
Anyway I'm not sure how this works, point is: users are creating temporary accounts in order to get back their original accounts, which they can't create because they already exist, so they must be able to log in the old account by using the password/email of the new one. If that's not feasible, tell me how to do it, please.--Wedhro (talk) 08:41, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Also, user Revenant Lord says he can't login after the user merge, with error "Incorrect username or password entered".--Wedhro (talk) 15:31, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
This is what I was afraid of, the extension provides no information on what user information is preserved, but it seems like it isn't what we wanted it to be. I'm going to test what gets saved, before moving forward with the user merges. -- Void Whispers 16:07, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
Maybe the old account should be merged into the temporary account (so that the user gets back the contribs and keeps the new password/email), then the temporary account gets renamed as the old one?--Wedhro (talk) 16:10, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
That appears to be how it works. We'll go with that from now on. Is there any reason to merge the accounts for Treffo? As it doesn't appear that a user is getting the account back. -- Void Whispers 16:16, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
He will, it was him that asked me to merge his old sockpuppets. I set up a page on Fandom for people asking to join the new wiki here, so I'm only requesting merges for users that are actually interested.--Wedhro (talk) 16:22, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Also, Special:CentralAuth/Blueyes2002 needs to be merged in Special:CentralAuth/Blueyestemp, and the final user name must be "Blueyes2002".--Wedhro (talk) 16:27, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

TheAlePower has been done, but we've come across an issue with the user merge function that prevents us from doing anything else for the time being. Most simply put, the username that gets merged does not become available for use, even though it should be. -- Void Whispers 18:59, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
Hi, for "Revenant Lord" they can reset there password through email (i've added the email from there temp account to it). Paladox (talk) 21:16, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
Blueyes2002 is done. Could you make sure that each user logs into nonciclopedia with their temporary account first? We can only merge a user account when they exist on all the same wikis as the other account. -- Void Whispers 21:22, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Wiki's logo (File:Wiki.png) won't update

I always have a hard time adding a new version of the nonciclopedia's logo; even if the upload is successful and the new version appears in the history, the file stays on the previous version for days or forever. Purging the page won't help. Attempting to reupload the file fails, I'm told that version already exist, and checking the options to ignore system errors and such fails too. We often change logo for special occasions like holidays and such so we can wait a few hours for the servers to catch up but no longer than that.--Wedhro (talk) 09:53, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Oops, here's the logo: https://nonciclopedia.org/wiki/File:Wiki.png --Wedhro (talk) 09:54, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
@Wedhro: What does the new logo look like? To resolve the issue quickly, you can upload the new logo separately using Special:Upload and then change the logo in Special:ManageWikiSettings. Also, please note that for technical issues you can use Community Noticeboard instead of SN. Reception123 (talk) (C) 10:32, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Oops, next time. If you check the history you'll see there's a few differences between the 21 dic 2018 and 2 gen 2019 versions (the title doesn't overlap with the logo and the wiki-sphere is slightly different) and you can see those differences in the history thumbnails, but if you click on this one you're taken to the previous version of the file. Also, in Special:ManageWikiSettings I can't link to the newest version for the same reason: the link to the new version is https://static.miraheze.org/nonciclopediawiki/b/bc/Wiki.png, exactly the same as the link I previously set, and it leads to the old version. --Wedhro (talk) 10:41, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Namespace Error

On my wiki xed.miraheze.org, I accidentally didn't notice that I had a few pages already created with the prefix English: before I created the namespace English. Those pages seem to be inaccessible now. I am only looking to delete them. Any advice? How can I delete the namespaces I created? I regret my decision! I will go delete the content out of the namespaces ... --Aquatiki (talk) 13:22, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi, the ability to delete namespaces hasn’t been added yet, but if you would like, we can manually remove them from the database. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 14:07, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, I screwed up. Can you delete the English and Greek namespaces, and their Talk namespaces? --Aquatiki (talk) 23:35, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Please do delete the namespaces. They are empty, but I screwed up and their are articles in the Main namespace that are inaccessible. here --Aquatiki (talk) 03:13, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

ReplaceText Permissions

I added the extension ReplaceText, and when I go to its special page, I get the error You are not allowed to execute the action you have requested. I am the administrator and bureaucrat, and I checked my user rights, which seem to include everything except bot. What am I doing wrong? --Aquatiki (talk) 23:38, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Try disabling it and enabling it. If that doesn't work, use Special:ManageWikiPermissions to add replacetext to the sysop usergroup and let us know. -- Void Whispers 23:46, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Special:ManageWikiPermissions was the answer. Thanks! --Aquatiki (talk) 00:27, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

Visual Editor for custom namespace

On https://shroudedpath.miraheze.org/wiki/ I've created a custom namespace (STGM). It seems like the visual editor extension needs to be informed of the namespace for it to work, which I can't do.

Also I had to add the namespace twice because it disappeared. It might have to do with me accidentally using the same name for the main and talk namespace. It would probably be best to automatically create a name for the talk namespace, since the default seems to be "[main namespace name] talk" anyway. I hope the namespace has now been created correctly.

Thanks in advance

Error in Special:ManageWikiNamespaces on my Uncyclopedia

Hi! I seem to have an error on the Special:ManageWikiNamespaces special page on my Uncyclopedia wiki; the drop-down list on choosing namespaces seem to be empty. I tried both adding ?safemode=yes to the URL and changing skins, the dropdown list continue to be empty. Please help me to fix this problem. Psl631 (Let's Chat!) 14:59, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Checkuser request for suspected LTA accounts on Usopedia

Hi, I'd like to ask for a checkuser on suspected LTA accounts created on Usopedia. They are:

They all have the suffix 「たん」 in common (which is some sort of trend following my sub account 開拓たん), had been created in a short period, and the second account has been indefinitely blocked due to abusive user name. Thanks in advance.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:35, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

Not done Using multiple accounts is allowed per the User_accounts_policy. Only in the case of misuse a CheckUser could be justified. Southparkfan (talk) 01:49, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
It is allowed, but the accounts of an LTA is NOT (because it's a block/lock evasion). I should also note that having multiple accounts without reasons on our wiki is against our local policy (even if it's not against the global policy). We have been suffering from a Japanese cross-wiki LTA for a long time, and I also should add that at least one of them is probably that of the LTA (based on the logging on the abuselog).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 02:36, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
In that case, I'm going to take a look at it. -- Void Whispers 20:15, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
The above accounts are all technically related to each other. -- Void Whispers 20:32, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
All right, I'll lock the accounts except for かにふとん for abusing multiple accounts. For かにふとん, I need to question the user before dealing with it, and thus let me handle it for now. Thanks.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 04:22, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

DoveWindsor

Quacking sock of Lousie3 - just see their contributions here on Meta and the wiki that they created. Please globally lock. Thanks. Amanda Catherine (talk) 12:30, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi, why are you so sure about this user being a sockpuppet of Louise3?--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 12:38, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
The behavior here matches the Louise3 socks almost exactly - mass canvassing here on Meta for users to contribute to their wiki, unilaterally giving out admin and bureaucrat rights to every user who creates a local account on their wiki, having their wiki more-or-less copy Wikipedia (possibly in violation of copyright policy), etc. Amanda Catherine (talk) 12:44, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
You may be right, but I'm not sure enough, and, at least, we can't say the user is a vandal-only account so far (like LTA:KOSHIN or whatsoever). Please wait for a steward to come and review your comment. Also, please do not revert edits on talk pages (unless it's an obvious vandal or/and it's your own talk page). Thank you.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 12:58, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
I have restored their access to their wiki. @Amanda Catherine: as a staff member, I would like to ask you to not ban founders from their wikis even if you have admin/bureaucrat on the wiki. If an account is a sock puppet, it will be determined by stewards sabe edit reversions and wiki removals will be handeled by steward. This is their responsibility and not yours. We are happy however for you to tell us if you think an account is a sock puppet. Thanks for your understanding. I will let the stewards handle the rest of this. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 15:37, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
CU confirmed. But yeah let stewards handle it. -- Void Whispers 16:53, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
For some clarity; "as a staff member, I would like to ask you to not ban founders from their wikis", wikis don't have founders, and as a staff member, you don't have the authority to overrule the actions of a community member. By the user giving Amanda crat, Amanda has the same responsibility for the wiki as the original user and the removal of bureaucrat from the user is 100% a valid action in a sense where policies lack. Just like you're reinstating is 100% valid as an action. John (talk) 19:23, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
+1 regarding what John said. Just to be clear, the user was such an obvious sock of Louise3 that I instantly recognized having dealt with them extensively before, and therefore I took the actions I did because IMHO the user really had no right to even have that wiki created. Although, on a semi-related note, I see the user has blocked me indefinitely and I’d be appreciative if this could be removed so that I don’t have an invalid block in my CA. Amanda Catherine (talk) 22:46, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Dormancy exemption

I would like to request a Dormancy Policy exemption for the Constructed Worlds (Altverse) Wiki because it is viewed and designed for a significant readership base and does not require continual editing as it already contains a fairly large library of articles and content. The community occasionally experiences decreased editing activity, but not necessarily viewing activity, so we would like an exemption in the unlikely but possible chance that no significant edits are made within the timeframe allowed before a wiki is labeled "dormant", because the wiki contains significant amounts of content. centrist16 | | 05:55, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

Bump as there has been no response as of yet. centrist16 | | 19:41, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

CSS won't let me edit

Greetings, I really need your help. I was working on my common CSS of PlayStation All-Stars Database, but it won't let me edit as it said quote:

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

You do not have permission to edit this CSS page because it may affect all visitors.

Permissions for editing of sitewide CSS/JS/JSON files were recently separated from the editinterface right. If you do not understand why you are getting this error, see mw:MediaWiki_1.32/interface-admin.

I've tried everything to update my administration, but it won't let me edit. Would you help me to fix and analysis this?

-Official-PSASD (talk) 08:32, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

As you are a bureaucrat there, you can go to Special:ManageWikiPermissions, and allow admin (or whatever group you want) the permissions: editsitecss, editsitejson, editsitejs. That will restore your permissions to edit css, js, and json on MediaWiki namespace.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 10:39, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Well, I did added the permission but sadly it didn't allowed me to add it where in the user rights where the check box is grey (it shown in "Groups you cannot change"), I've tried again but it won't let me create CSS. -Official-PSASD (talk) 19:52, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
You should either allow these permissions to sysop, or you should make sure that bureaucrats can add the groups you created. -- Void Whispers 19:58, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

Merge users on nonciclopedia.org (3)

It's been almost e 2 weeks since I first asked to #Merge_users_on_nonciclopedia.org so people want to know if issues have been fixed. User Treffo's sockpuppets seems they're not merged yet, and user Revenant Lord says he can't login, and asking for a password had no effect, he received no email. Can you please give a way to get back accounts that works?--Wedhro (talk) 09:46, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for the delay on working on this, I've not been the most available recently, but I should be available to merge Treffo tomorrow. Is there a temporary account for the user yet? For Revenant Lord, we can create a new account and redo the merge, properly this time! -- Void Whispers 00:38, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
Special:CentralAuth/Treffo is both the temporary account and the final username that should inherit the other 10 accounts. I told Revenant Lord to create a new temp account, I'll let you know when it's done.--Wedhro (talk) 10:23, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
@Void: Special:CentralAuth/Revenant Lord temporaneo 2 was just created and the user confirmed he logged in once. This account should inherit Special:CentralAuth/Revenant Lord contributions and user name. Also, I have a question: since some users (including myself) noticed how some personal data such as the join date, edit count etc. are not correct, would you fix them manually if a user asks for it?--Wedhro (talk) 13:56, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
Some of the information can be reset, but the user registration date probably cannot. Can you have Revenant Lord visit nonciclopediawiki so that the account is attached there? We can't do a user merge if the accounts do not exist on exactly the same wikis. I'll get started on Treffo now. -- Void Whispers 18:36, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
Treffo is done. -- Void Whispers 19:51, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. I can confirm Revenant Lord's temp account has just visited nonciclopedia.org.
"Some of the information can be reset, but the user registration date probably cannot." - Would you please give it a try so I can get a yes or no answer? Revenant Lord is done. What I mean by "probably cannot" is that the information may not exist on Miraheze to be connected to the account (without doing database modifications). To be honest, I don't know, and I don't have access to the tools to find out. -- Void Whispers 23:35, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
it should be able to be done, your timestamp is "20180521223923". Paladox (talk) 00:40, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
Database modifications is what I was actually asking for. It would be intended only for the few users who ask for it and we would link to the original data on our Fandom accounts as proof in case that matters. --Wedhro (talk) 05:03, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

Need help with my wiki - the checkboxes in the gadgets section is disabled

Hi. I asking if someone can help me because in my wiki here, on the preferences page, all checkboxes in the gadgets section are disabled, what have caused so all checkboxes is disabled? How make I them checkable/uncheckable again, what have caused this? Psl631 (Let's Chat!) 17:50, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

I'm not seeing anything wrong with Special:Preferences, but it seems that you linked to Special:Gadgets, which doesn't seem to do anything. -- Void Whispers 00:40, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
@Void:The problem was that i was missing a right, and then was them checkable, even in the gadgets section of my preferences page. I thought it was a bug. Psl631 (Let's Chat!) 07:22, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

Disable non-logged on users

Can you help me on how to disable non-logged in users? My wikia, Atrocious YouTubers Wikia, has been getting these kinds of users who misbehave and constantly break the rules and insult the admins? -Chaofun

Using Special:ManageWikiPermissions, remove the ability to edit from anon users (the * group), and assign the right to the user group. If you only want to protect the main namespace (where all your articles are), you can use Special:ManageWikiNamespaces to require that the <Main> namespace needs the userright user to be edited. -- Void Whispers 00:35, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

Hello, just thought I'd enquire, and I hope this is the correct place to do so, but I requested a wiki here, which has been approved but it has yet to be created, I am just curious if this is an error on the system or there was an issue with the request, any clarification would be great. I can't use captchas : joining miraheze with lynx

Hello. I would like to create an account on miraheze. I use lynx as a browser and so I can't use captchas. I am visually impaired so I couldn't use captchas on any other browser, except the sound captchas that are very hard to use and don't always work. Is there any other way to subscribe ? I am reachable at [redacted email] Thank you Pascal

Hi, I’ve made you an account called “Grapos” with the password sent to your email address. If you’d like to rename your account you can use Special:GlobalRenameRequest. Any issues please email john(at)miraheze.org. Thanks! John (talk) 07:57, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Merge users on nonciclopedia.org (4)

Special:CentralAuth/Caesar_temporaneo needs to inherit Special:CentralAuth/Cesar91's contributions (etc.), and then be renamed "Caesar".--Wedhro (talk) 22:03, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

The username Caesar is already in use, so the user will have to pick a different name. I could merge the accounts together, and then set the final username as Cesar91 for now, and the user could request a rename using Special:GlobalRenameRequest. -- Void Whispers 18:13, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
It's just a fake user created by Cesar91 to redirect to his current username because Wikia wouldn't allow user renames, see https://nonciclopedia.org/w/index.php?title=Utente:Caesar&action=history - Since it doesn't have a single edit in 5 years you can you delete/block that username so it becomes available again?--Wedhro (talk) 21:42, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
That is not why this blocks the situation, as the Caesar account on Miraheze was created from Meta before we migrated the user accounts from nonciclopedia. -- Void Whispers 22:25, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
Ok, but there's no actual person behind that username. If you search on Wikia (https://nonciclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Speciale:Utenti) you won't even find the user. It looks like a mistake when uploading the dump, it would be absurd if that prevented people from taking that username. I ask that also because many users resorted to that workaround because of Wikia's policies so it might happen again. There's some technical difficulty that prevents you from deleting an account created by mistake?--Wedhro (talk) 22:32, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
The account does not look to have been created by mistake. The account looks to have been created by another user on Mirhaze. -- Void Whispers 23:10, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
So a global rename, as you suggested above, is actually impossible?--Wedhro (talk) 23:17, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

Privacy of "Private" Wiki, appearance of user I didn't add

I've been working on a wiki hosted on Miraheze for my company to develop training resources, but we're concerned about public access & trade secrets. I read on your FAQ that the main page is always public. I'm wondering how easy it would be for someone to create a user to become a "member" and gain access to the wiki without us noticing it.

In particular, I'm wondering about a user called "GDPRAccount" which was created on January 25th on our Wiki, communitybuilding.miraheze.org.

I'm just learning how to use this wiki stuff, so I don't have much technical knowledge yet.

If we need to switch to some kind of commercial wiki management service, I suppose we can do that. But I like the idea of supporting Miraheze -- it's a wonderful free resource -- if it can satisfy our need for privacy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by John Neil (talkcontribs) 14:49, 30 January 2019‎ (UTC)

Hi, due to the nature of our account system on Miraheze, anyone can create an account on your wiki. However, they can only read your wiki if they have been added to the Member group by an administrator of your wiki. The account "GDPRAccount" is used by staff for the sole purpose of deleting other user's information upon their request. It should never be logged into, but has no elevated access anyway. -- Void Whispers 17:28, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
If you wish to even disallow account creations, you could create a local abuse filter for it on Special:AbuseFilter. However, this won't be necessary because of what Void said above; no one can see the contents (apart from the main page) unless you (or any other local admins) permit it.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 08:15, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Lock "Dr brain kaur"

Please lock Dr brain kaur's account. They are a cross wiki-farm troll that first edited The Sims Wiki only to vandalize, and declared that they were going to create a "fork" of the wiki maliciously on ShoutWiki. They have created an account here and have requested to create The Sims Wiki on Miraheze, again with malicious intent, and possibly to hoard our subdomain name to make it harder for us to have control over our Internet presence. Please lock their account and decline their wiki request. Thanks, —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:30, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

CheckUser Rights Request

I would like to have checkuser rights because I am licensed in keeping secrets and I will never release Ip addresses to others. If I had these rights I would make miraheze a better platform to host wikis on.

@Examknow: CheckUser can only executive by stewards for combating those LTA cross-wiki to create multiple accounts for engaging an vandalism or spamming activity, not to view other users IP addresses information for curiosity purpose. Why do you need to access the CU tool, does your local wiki "wizwiki.miraheze.org" appearance plenty vandals or spammers? SA 13 Bro (talk) 22:33, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
@SA 12 Bro: No WizWiki has sock puppets under control.
  • The checkuser permission will not be delegated to users outside of the steward body excepting in cases where a user is elected in a process that is as selective as the steward elections. However, the steward body is confident that it can handle CU requests in a timely manner, and such appointments do not need to take place. -- Void Whispers 18:44, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

@ZelDelet: I don't understand what you mean with the passwords thing. Also, for a CheckUser to be done, usually, it is done after one of the accounts has done something (not before). Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:20, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

Given as you have already blocked the accounts, what would be the point of checking them? Do you believe there are other accounts? -- Void Whispers 17:41, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
These accounts' edit resemble NUOC or KOSHIN (known LTA in Usopedia). Please check whether these accounts are NUOC or KOSHIN. --TANUKI (talk) 23:59, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
Again, I'm not sure why that's necessary. If the accounts need to be locked, that's one thing, and they can be locked without a CU. But performing a CU just to confirm that an account (which has already been blocked, and in one case locked) is an LTA, is outside of the scope of the tool. The CU tool is meant to help identify and prevent abusive actions on wikis. In this case, I believe we have already done so. -- Void Whispers 00:51, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Citations and polls

I have two unrelated questions:

  • Is it possible to get previews of citations when hovering on them, as it happens on Wikipedia?
  • After moving our wiki here, polls lost all their data. I guess it was stored in the database, which cannot be imported here. There's anything we can do to restore the data? We were using Ajax Poll extension on the old wiki and I got it installed here too.

--Wedhro (talk) 08:47, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Citation previews are possible using the ReferenceTooltips gadget. To import it, you need the pages MediaWiki:Gadget-ReferenceTooltips, MediaWiki:Gadget-ReferenceTooltips.js, and MediaWiki:Gadget-ReferenceTooltips.css. To MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition, add the line:
* ReferenceTooltips[ResourceLoader|default|type=general|dependencies=mediawiki.cookie,jquery.client,mediawiki.notify]|ReferenceTooltips.js|ReferenceTooltips.css
I don't know how Ajax Poll works, but there might be a way to extract the information and store it here. However, I do not know how that would be possible. -- Void Whispers 18:09, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, I copypasted the content of the above pages from Wikipedia and now reference tooltips work.--Wedhro (talk) 20:17, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Applying Dormancy exemption to all Uncyc/Illogico projects

Hi, I would like to request for Dormancy exemption to all Uncyc/Illogico projects on Miraheze.

Since Fandom has decided to kick all Uncycs out, it's likely that more and more Uncycs will join us. However, some of the projects have not many articles and/or active users, and they can face the risk of deletion per our Dormancy Policy. This is something we would like to avoid, because we uncyclopedians regard all of them as sisters.

The bases of this are:

  1. There are some Uncys on Miraheze with over 10 thousand articles (such as Nonsensopedia).
  2. I've been active across Uncycs/Illogicos, and have high permissions on several Uncyc/Illogico wikis (in and out Miraheze).
  3. I have global contributions including but not limited to my actions as a CVT.

To avoid the same mistake that Fandom/Wikia had, however, I would like to have one exception of these exemptions; all of them should be exempted from the Dormancy Policy (as either being a large project and/or a sister of such projects) unless each community decides to move out (for whatever reason).

I will provide a list of Uncycs/Illogicos on Miraheze after the reorganization process is all settled, but the question is, is it possible to arrange it?

Thanks in advance.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 03:25, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

I take no side in your request, but write to point out there are several independent things happening here.
  1. There are several national-language Uncyclopedias that have moved here, in response to any of several festering stylistic disputes with Wikia before its current declaration that it no longer wants to host Uncyclopedia at all.
  2. There are several single-user Uncyclopedia wanna-bes on Miraheze; I include my own refuge, TheMirror, which I had let go dormant until someone reopened it; I have since started rewriting new stuff there.
  3. As you note in the previous section, there is an emerging debate about what should happen to the classic Uncyclopedia, one side (including me) advocating that the project come here. Spıke (talk)03:40 28-Feb-2019
  • Pretty much in relation to above, but I want to wait until things get fully decided before I guarantee anything. There's no sense putting anything on dormancy if it's not going to need it. -- Void Whispers 03:43, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
OK, maybe we can wait until everything is settled. There is a centralized forum regarding this topic on UnMeta, FYI.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 03:49, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
No problem, but Pioneer originally asked about feasibility, not timetable. (See final paragraph of his first post of this section.) Spıke (talk)04:00 28-Feb-2019
Feasibility is going to be affected by the inconvenient detail that someone has to decide what is the main wiki for each Uncyclopedia language and what is merely a fork, a one-man show or simply an empty wiki with no users and no content. Sometimes users request wikis which merely duplicate something Uncyclopedia already has, sometimes a user will request something oddball like Uncyclopedia in Cambodian language and then contribute nothing but a single page. One pattern that's repeated a few times (English, Russian, Polish) was that Wikia would do something (such as a domain name change, a forced reskin or censorship of content) which would offend the original community, which would fork off to some independent site; Wikia would then leave the old project open in direct competition and eventually a few users discontent with the heavy-handed way the new site was being run would set up squatter communities in the abandoned Wikia ghost towns that had been left behind. At that point, which project is the main Uncyclopedia for any given language and which languages are worth linking to? Carlb (talk) 23:23, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
  • Coming back to this, I think the best idea is that we will not automatically exempt uncyclopedias from the dormancy policy. Instead, if an uncyclopedia wants to be exempted, it should first establish a community and then establish a valid reason for being exempted. If the community is active, then they won't even need one. However, if no community exists, and there is no proof that the wiki is really being used/read, then we probably shouldn't keep it around. -- Void Whispers 20:34, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
This seems fair. On a legitimate language-Uncyclopedia with hundreds or thousands of articles (as opposed to a one-person clone with a dozen purloined articles), there will be several Admins and, if the community starts to get quiet, they will realize it, and will panic, and during the panic they will petition that the wiki not go dormant...or, if activity has ceased, at least that the wiki not be deleted. So Carlb's batch process does not need to run now; it can be done on a case-by-case basis.
  • Some of the wikis are Uncyclopedians fed up with Wikia's mandates, and Carlb is right, the Wikia wiki remains and eventually a new crew may settle and become squatters over everything the old crew wrote; and then you will have two, each with half the potential activity. However, in the case of classic Uncyclopedia, Wikia has informed Admins that it simply doesn't want it anymore. Spıke (talk)22:53 3-Mar-2019

I did not make a action that might have caused the error. I saw also on Phabicrator that @Void have worked on a ticket that I have opened on Phabicrator, the error might be because of he is working on some configuration settings edits, and the wiki gets internal error while he is working on them. Can you please click the link and see if you get error or not. :) please reply here if you get error or not? :) Psl631 (Let's Chat!) 13:07, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Request to poach another user's name, bis

At Stewards'_noticeboard/Archive_7#Request to poach another user's name, I asked that my username Spike_the_Dog be renamed to Spike. The outcome of that discussion was that @Borderman: said he knew the owner of the username, and I conceded that he knew him; and other Mirahezians lamented the absence of a policy on abandoned accounts.

It is now a full year later and the account Spike has never been used in that year. By all of the hypothetical policies put forth during that discussion, the account Spike is abandoned, and I would like it, please; especially as Wikia has expressed a desire no longer to host the original Uncyclopedia, on which I have been notorious as Spike for seven years, and its Admins conduct a debate on whether to move here (to move the real, original Uncyclopedia, as opposed to the two single-user Uncyclopedia wanna-bes already created). Borderman's friend evidently doesn't care, and I do. Spıke (talk)02:30 28-Feb-2019

I think we can wait until a final conclusion is drawn there. Some of them want to reunite with en.uncyclopedia.co, in fact.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 03:28, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. But I disagree on the need to wait. I had made the user rename request long before the current turmoil, and I wish it no matter how this debate works out. Spıke (talk)03:34 28-Feb-2019

@John: @Voidwalker: ^ Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:50, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
@Spike the Dog: I have no issue with you using the name and I do remember you mentioning the username request. I do know the user Spike on my Lonsdale Battalion wiki but as you mention he hasn't used that account for a long time, neither have I for that fact but I do plan on returning to it shortly. The reason Spike hasn't used his account is because he has his own website on the same subject and has no need to duplicate his work on the Lonsdale Battalion wiki. We both have very different projects on the same subject and are happy to help each other out if necessary but rarely (or never) really do. I don't expect to see the current user Spike use his account again in the future and if he does, because of the sheer length of time absent from any kind of editing, it would seem strange not to allow Spike the Dog be renamed "Spike" across Mirahaze. Just because my friend is known as Spike on my wiki, his own website and various WWI military forums, it doesn't mean he has ownership of that name everywhere. There must be thousands of people with that username across the globe across many different websites. However, with respect to Miraheze, if I know that he won't be using his account any time soon plus it has now been a year since the previous discussion about it, I have no issue with Spike the Dog being renamed "Spike" Borderman (Talk) 21:12, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
@Borderman: Thank you, sir! (Now: Yours was the only objection a year ago. Will the name change happen?!) Spıke (talk)22:41 3-Mar-2019
@Spike the Dog: No problem pal. I haven't kept up to speed on new policies and RfC's so I wouldn't like to say. I guess the name change will be down to the admins. If, and this is a big if, he wanted to contribute in the future then I would just tell him to create a new account with a different name - he wouldn't mind. Borderman (Talk) 22:59, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Doubly good! If I get his old name, he can even have my old one! Spıke (talk)23:11 3-Mar-2019
  • I'll leave a note on the user's page asking if they object to the usurp, given that the user does appear to have attached their account to another wiki about a month ago. I give give them a window of about a month to respond before proceeding with the rename. -- Void Whispers 01:35, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
Thank you, that is definite forward progress! Spıke (talk)03:21 4-Mar-2019

Spike the Cat

Separately, a user account was created yesterday that is easily confused with my user name (less so if the above name change goes through). The user has edited exclusively at All The Tropes, but did make a side trip to my Miraheze wiki at https://rfobasic.miraheze.org so the choice of user name seems to have been made with imitation in mind, and perhaps timed to have a tool to influence the imminent closure of Wikia Uncyclopedia and the preference of some of its users, including me, to move Uncyclopedia here.

Still separately, one Uncyclopedian has noticed with dismay that the name "Uncyclopedia" is already taken here, and moreover by a wiki that is not in English in the first place, though its name is. This too will mostly confuse people. Spıke (talk)23:41 6-Mar-2019

I'm so sorry. It was a name I picked back in 2015. I wasn't trying to pretend to be you, so I've had it changed. I'm not up to no good, promise. Flyingcat (talk) 03:25, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

CheckUser request - multi-wiki

Hello.

Earlier this week, new user "2hadow" created a User page on the All The Tropes wiki saying "Hello. I'm here for anti-vandalism work." That user immediately had the User page vandalized; we blocked the vandal. This was the first vandalism to take place on this wiki for over a year. 2hadow then went on to attempt to unilaterally change the look and feel of the wiki; we had to block 2hadow to protect the wiki.

Earlier this week, new user "2Cute4U" created a User page on the Poser and Daz Free Resources wiki saying "Hello. I'm here for anti-vandalism work." Today, That user had the User page vandalized; I've blocked the vandal. This was the first vandalism to take place on this wiki for over a year. 2Cute4U has unilaterally created some notice templates without asking whether they are required or desired ...

Because of the similarities of events on both wikis, I request a CheckUser be run on User:2hadow and User:2Cute4U

DNS Redirect

Hello guys,

I have made a DNS Redirect from my OVH Hosted domain so that http:// or https://zw.fontainebleau-avon.fr redirects to zero.miraheze.org

In my browser, when typing http://zw.fontainebleau-avon.fr/ , everything seems to be fine to navigate in the Wiki, but if I click on one link on the left menu below the logo such as "Recent changes" or any other one, a blank page is displayed. It sounds that it does not work for any Special Pages.

Does anyone ever tried to do this ? Is this a normal behaviour ? How can I change that so that anyone reaching my Wiki from zw.fontainebleau-avon.fr has a correct behaviour ?

Thank you for your help, Kevain (talk)

Our website does not allow framing, at least over http connections. Please see Custom domains for information on actually using a custom domain, instead of framing or using masked redirects. (PS: The reason you see the blank page is indicated in the browser console: Load denied by X-Frame-Options: https://zero.miraheze.org/wiki/Sp%C3%A9cial:Modifications_r%C3%A9centes does not permit framing.) -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 04:08, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

Delete wiki

Alden Loveshade

Overnight, the said user created an account here, was frustrated by having to undergo Captcha as I am too, was confused by the difference between the login site and the meta site, and reported at Wikia Uncyclopedia. [1] He was already convinced that that wiki should move somewhere other than Miraheze and perhaps didn't apply himself to the task. However, if there are simple answers to his annoyances, someone might inform him; or better yet, analyze his gripe and see if the process of new user registration can be made clearer. Spıke (talk)13:48 23-Mar-2019

Wish I could have responded to this sooner, but I've been a mixture of busy and in bad health these past few days. Since the page over there is protected, I'll make a few comments here.
  • This block sounds interesting, and could likely be caused by using a proxy, or just being unluckily overlapped with a range we've blocked for abuse.
  • Captcha's are always annoying, but it is the best one we've got.
  • You don't have to go to login.miraheze.org to make a user page, that's just for the global one (difference being that the global user page is shown on all wikis).
  • Because of spam, new users cannot put links on their userpages until they have made a few edits (like one or two). Then it's the captcha again.
  • It should always show that you are logged in, so something was probably off on your end? Dunno, that sounds really weird.
-- Void Whispers 01:08, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. Global user pages might be described at FAQ. At any rate, the vote has concluded and Miraheze did not win. Again, I don't know whether Alden wanted anything more than new reasons not to come to Miraheze. Likewise Rhubella, posting a screen shot of a Discord where you participated, but did not state that Miraheze will be broke in 8 months if no one contributes anything (an assertion apparently made before the news at Finances that several people have contributed this month, including one Wikia staffer.

Separately, I leave it to youse to decide whether user Alwam101 came to Miraheze for any purpose other than to troll me at Community noticeboard. Spıke (talk)03:00 25-Mar-2019

Uncyclopedia bis

@Artix Kreiger: requests a wiki at Special:RequestWikiQueue/7693, stating, "Preparation for a fork, demanded by Fandom staff".

They certainly did not. They announced that they would cease hosting the original Uncyclopedia at the end of this month. (Like Brexit, it is not clear that that date is firm.) Uncyclopedians took a vote last week, considering Miraheze and electing to move somewhere else, despite the opinion of dissenters like me that the decision is tantamount to voting to suicide.

Artix may envision creating a wiki and inviting Uncyclopedia editors to move to it. But there are two problems. The wiki uncyclopedia.miraheze.org is already taken, by a Chinese-language wiki. In addition, there are at least two other wikis here apparently created with the same thing in mind. At the least, everyone contemplating using Miraheze to create a new fork of Uncyclopedia should be asked to coordinate their efforts, especially if every new effort involves installing a copy of the 32,000 articles of Uncyclopedia. Spıke (talk)01:53 28-Mar-2019

The subdomain issue can be modified if the Chinese side agrees with it (so what you need is to negotiate with them). Both Uninspired and Uncyclopedia2.0 are starting their projects from scratch, and are different from either .co or wikia, both of which with over 30k articles.
This kind of request is something I already predicted (and posted) on wikia (because of the failure of the reunification plan proposed by .co), and as I said there, there's no reason for us to decline the request, at least, based on our policies. It's rather... based on inter-wiki point of view that I hold some reqs regarding Uncycs (to avoid Uncycs getting more and more messy and to have a better relation with them), but no one can stop other wiki creators from creating them.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 07:08, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
The thing I do wonder is about the remaining disk space and the reported delay of imports by some of the other Uncyc communities here. I wonder what our sysadmins has to say with it.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 07:37, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
The way the vote was closed does not reflect its actual contents or the wishes of the community as a whole. If such a wiki is created here, though, it would be better for someone from that community to make the request. Flyingcat (talk) 22:26, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
Asserting that Wikia Uncyclopedia is a "community" and requests for a Miraheze Uncyclopedia should come from that "community" immediately butt up against the strategic assertion, by .co, that there is only one "community" comprising Wikia Uncyclopedia and .co, the second of which can dominate any vote and already has its own hosting solution. Spıke (talk)01:50 29-Mar-2019
@Artix Kreiger: I've declined the two requests you've made on the basis that they conflict with the existing wiki, and would need communication before they could be accepted. -- Void Whispers 20:47, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

I just noticed the button for adding you own signature is only visible in talk pages on nonciclopedia.org. This is a problem on technical pages where people add requests or reports, such as Wikipedia's Help desk, where signing in content pages is possible; the ability to easily sign is a must because most people won't bother copy/pasting the tildes and will leave unsigned messages.

You can make it public with Special:ManageWiki, just uncheck the private checkbox and save the form. Renaming user/Impersonation

Hi, Apologies if this is not in the correct place but asked at https://allthetropes.org/wiki/ and was told to come back here,
I've found out yesterday that someone had registered my Wikimedia username (User:Davey2010) here and at allthetropes in 2018 and had vandalised the ATT project (no edits were made here),

I can completely understand my name being taken everywhere and I certainly never have an issue with it however in this specific case their userpage on the ATT page shows my name in blue and orange[2] (which was clearly taken from one of my Wikimedia userpages (example),

The other problem is that now when you search "Davey2010" on Google both this project and the ATT one both show up (and so if random people searched my name both of these would immediately pop up and would clearly give the impression the person here and there is me),

So I was wondering if there was any possibility that on both projects that "Davey2010" could be renamed to something else, and then this account (Davey2010WP) be renamed to Davey2010?

As I said given both projects appear in Google and both are Wikis (as opposed to completely different websites) I feel this could certainly cause a lot of confusion,

Many thanks,

Dave. (Davey2010WP (talk) 01:59, 25 April 2019 (UTC))

It would appear this person originally found me through one of the Babel boxes on Wikimedia Commons given this and this however they also state they live in the UK and France (I state here the only country I've ever visited is France, Anyway many thanks, Davey2010WP (talk) 02:10, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Hello and welcome! I deleted the first instance of this request in favor of this version at the bottom of the page. I have no power to grant the request, but I recently noted that someone registered here my Wikipedia user name with the apparent attempt to mislead/impersonate. @Void: blocked it on all Miraheze wikis with the summary "impersonation and disruptive intent".
In your case, the user in question has already been blocked from ATT, summary "Being an asshole to mods after being given a rather mild time out". In my opinion, your note that this user has imitated your Wikipedia user page is decisive that he is not here in good faith. Spıke (talk)02:13 25-Apr-2019

BTW backups on static are useful.

Please don't discontinue XML and image dumps on static. Without users being able to use the API to make their own XML dumps it's much more useful than DataDump. Special:DataDump is inconvenient, it's too interactive. Static allows easily keeping an up to date copy locally with wget, without interaction. Rob Kam (talk) 13:38, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Since you've confirmed this merge with both accounts (here), we can do the user merge. However, in order for this to work properly, your final account (Narissa) needs to exist on all wikis that Beta.003 exists on. To do this, simply visit mh:alternatehistory, mh:altverse, mh:conworld, mh:differenthistory, mh:futurehistory, mh:ininfinitum, mh:lwdfoundation and mh:template while logged in as Narissa. DP exception

hello folks! I am the admin of crest.miraheze (University of Roehampton - UK)

The Wiki has picked up nicely and despite some initial resistance the team has started to appreciate the platform and there is now a significant amount of text. We are using the wiki to write documentation about procedures and internal policies of our research group. However, at some point I think the amount of editing may plateau .. and frequency of editing will decrease. I read about the dormancy policy and I was worried that we could get suspended if (say) we slow down with the editing. Are we eligible for a DP exception?

I would like to report a ban evader that vandalized a page about him

(This report was made by LanomniZ)

Hello Stewards, i would like to report a ban evader that vandalized a page about him
The name of him is JJTA1211, which recently made an account to vandalize
He made many other accounts, which is quite troubling, could you globally lock them?

His accounts

  1. JJTA1211
  2. 2601:6C3:8300:5D0:F09E:6F0D:D1BC:A260
  3. 2600:1700:5F20:36E0:2D13:C605:29D8:ADBA
  4. 2600:1700:5F20:36E0:A1E1:E327:CF7A:7B93
  5. JJTAM
  6. 213.205.242.23
  7. 2600:1700:5F20:36E0:B85C:28E8:74BB:3A69
  8. 65.33.153.160
  9. 12.250.49.238
  10. GyrosAndSparks
  11. Jordan Baumann (Aka the one who vandalized)
  • JJTA1211 is related to the following accounts: Vyond and GyrosAndSparks. The account "Jordan Baumann" and JJTAM are both completely unrelated to each other, and to any other account I could find. As such, the only account I have locked is Jordan Baumann. I will make no comment with respect to the IP addresses. -- Void Whispers 22:19, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
  • I don't know about the vandalism. I have patrolled several edits to User:JJTA1211, the gist of all of them being to announce his retirement from Miraheze and to blame the move on hate from other users. (The claim is now made in a tweet.) For what it's worth. Spıke (talk)00:42 10-May-2019

User can't login after merge

@Wedhro: sorry for the delay, it seems as though John merged the new account into the old one, which sets the account information to that of the old account. We could redo the merge. How do I edit the CSS file for my wiki?

How do I edit the CSS file for my wiki? I am currently using the Vector skin. Let's say my wiki is https://WIKINAME.miraheze.org. I have poked around in the Special pages and all the settings and extensions pages and cannot find a way to edit the CSS. Thanks! --Bulrush (talk) 13:08, 8 May 2019 (UTC)

CSS is editable through the page MediaWiki:Common.css or through MediaWiki:Vector.css. Common.css applies to all users regardless of their skin, while Vector.css only applies to the skin. -- Void Whispers 15:52, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
Ok I must not be editing the right link. I tried editing https://newearth.miraheze.org/wiki/Common.css, saved it, and reloaded my wiki page, nothing changed. This is what I put into the file:
/* This CSS overrides all skins on newearth.miraheze.org.
*/
h1 {border-top: 4px solid black;
margin-top: 4pt;
}

What's the full URL that I'm supposed to edit? Bulrush (talk) 13:40, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

Ok I got it. It's https://newearth.miraheze.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.css. Bulrush (talk) 13:48, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
@Bulrush: There is one other thing that could go wrong. When you refresh a page, MediaWiki is smart enough to ask for fresh copies of all the files that went into the rendering of that page. But MediaWiki is not smart enough to detect that the CSS has changed. So you should flush your browser's cache (Ctrl-F5 in Mozilla). Spıke (talk)20:52 13-May-2019

How do I make a default page when new pages are created?

There may be multiple users that can edit my wiki. I would like to have Category:All on the bottom of every new created page without multiple users having to remember to do that manually. Is there a way I can make a wiki template which will be copied into a new page whenever a new page is created? Thank you! Bulrush (talk) 14:24, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

Here is one solution: You can create a page that users call to create a new page; it can use DPL, and the <inputbox>...</inputbox> tag that creates the edit window can use the preload parameter to specify what is initially in that edit window, from a different file. These contents could include Category:All. This solution does not prevent the creator of the page from removing the category. Another solution is to write a 'bot that periodically cycles through every page not in the category and adds it; I don't know how to do this. Spıke (talk)21:18 13-May-2019

Ok, maybe I'm not asking the right question. When I backup my wiki I want to backup all pages, and I was going to use the Category:All to add all pages to the export list. Is there another way to export all pages to back them up to a local file on my PC? Bulrush (talk) 12:16, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

Bulrush You can do this via Special:DataDump or with Special:AllPages and Special:Export. Isn't that what you're looking for? Hispano76 (talk) 14:08, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
It depends on size of your wiki (whether to use Special:DataDump or to use Special:Export), but perhaps Special:AllPages can provide a list as well.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 14:17, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

I don't have permissions to view or do Special:DataDumps and I assume I cannot give myself that permission. Usually I backup my wiki using Special:Export but I have to type in a category to get and export pages in that category, when really I want to backup all pages in that wiki. I've tried a category of '+' and '*' and neither work to give me all pages. If I forget to add a Category of 'All' to a page then that page doesn't get backed up. Any ideas how I can back up all pages of a wiki using Special:Export? Bulrush (talk) 10:08, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

You can give yourself the permission from Special:ManageWikiPermissions on your wiki (which should be: view-dump, generate-dump, and possibly delete-dump).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 12:03, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

How do I set the max image size that can be uploaded?

The default settings seems to be 250mb, that seems a bit excessive. I poked around in all the settings screens and can't seem to find the setting. If the max size just for my wiki newearth.miraheze.org is 5mb that's fine. Bulrush (talk) 12:27, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

All Wikis usergroup seemed to be back as default setting

@Void: There's seemed to be all Wikis usergroup has back to default setting, this could be possible cause by an bugs. Can you have a look at public test wiki? Which the Consuls usergroup had been disappear, and now the Bureaucrats tester were have the technical ability to modify the Manage wiki settings. Just in case occurrence any kind of security issues. SA 13 Bro (talk) 15:32, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello, we are sorry that you lost your groups last night. There was a incident last night which resulted in all groups being overwritten. So we had to restore all wiki's to the default groups in order to restore services to wikis. Paladox (talk) 15:47, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your notice, it seemed the Consuls usergroup on public test wiki has been fixed now. SA 13 Bro (talk) 19:20, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
All the permissions should be fixed by now, according to phab:T4405. If there are still remaining problems, however, please let us know.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 02:17, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Sure, thanks for your request the task help at phabricator. :) I occasionally were on here to monitor the circumstances and do some Chinese language translation on the documentation pages, although I had my busy works in real life time. SA 13 Bro (talk) 17:26, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
P.S. According to phab:T4413, the restoration was made based on backup created on May 5th. Permission changes since then might not be restored and should be turned back manually. Please see Special:log/managewiki on your wiki to check if your wiki is affected. This will apply globally.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 15:26, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
There's seemed to be no issues to restore the May 5th permission settings for public test wiki, so it should be definitely okay for PTW. SA 13 Bro (talk) 16:21, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

administrator and bureaucrant, beidipedia.miraheze.org

Hi I was an Admin in beidipedia. Wiki. Com, but I stopped editing, with a bunch of active users after changes that was imposed on us by wiki. I accidentally found out that you guys brought the old style back. We are OK now but eventually there will be more traffic and vandalism . So , if it is OK with you guys I'd like to take the responsibilities of be bureac/Admin. In beidipedia.miraheze.or Photo1 (talk) 16:19, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

@Photo1: Please make this request locally, and if it is successful a Steward will grant the rights. Reception123 (talk) (C) 08:32, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
@Reception123: I have talked to the community before to recommend to have a local admin/crat, because there seems to be no active admin/crat (because of Dysk's absence) while the wiki itself has been active (and as far as I know, no global volunteers understand Arabic so far).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 10:02, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
@Photo1: As I said on your talk page on beidipedia before, we would like to have a link to the community decision provided to us (though considering the fact that beidipedia is one of the uncycs that were kicked out from wikia/fandom, being an admin and/or a crat before your migration seems to be a valid reason to have your permissions back).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 10:02, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
Is there any way to verify that? -- Void Whispers 00:09, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
I should've said "if it's true," to be clear. As the former-fandom wiki is now deleted, there's actually no way to confirm it (which is why we still need a clear community decision page).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 00:30, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Please give me sysop rights

Hello. A steward must give me the right to be an administrator. Please??? Mohamed Saed (talk) 21:02, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

@Mohamed Saed: If you are talking about Meta, rights are given based on requests for permissions. However, requesting rights right after creating an account is a sign of hat collecting, and therefore they will not be given. Reception123 (talk) (C) 08:29, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
@Mohamed Saed: Asking for sysop decreases the chance of having it.--MCpillager (talk) 14:47, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

Merge users on nonciclopedia.org (17)

User Anse1997 has created one more temporary account in order to get his original account back (first time it didn't work), so I'm asking to merge Special:CentralAuth/Anse1997 tries again in Special:CentralAuth/Anse1997. He confirmed his identity on my message wall on Fandom, here.--Wedhro (talk) 22:37, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Getting rid of bureaucrat rights.

Hello, a user on crappygames.miraheze.org wants to get rid of his bureaucrat rights but no one can remove them including himself. Worth noting that the rights had been given with an infinite duration so he cannot wait for them to expire. Is there a way to remove them, if it is even possile? Thank you in advance. Grand Albert (talk) 06:07, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

@Grand Albert: It is only possible for the rights to be removed by a Steward. @Void: @John:. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:15, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
You may change the configurations so that a bureaucrat can remove bureaucrat permissions from Special:ManageWikiPermissions -> "Group Assignments". Just check "Can remove from others" and/or "Can remove from self" for "Bureaucrats". If you do not want to change the settings, however, you may ask a steward to remove their permission.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 06:28, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
Done This time, I have done removing by myself. However, if your community wishes to allow bureaucrats to remove their permission locally, you can still fix it in the way I wrote above.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 06:36, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
All right, thanks. Grand Albert (talk) 17:13, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Dormancy Policy exemption for https://zscriptlibraries.miraheze.org

I made this wiki for documentation on user-made ZScript libraries for the GZDoom source port for the game Doom, and as such, it's meant mainly to be read, not edited frequently. It'd be great if it could be given some form of exemption from the Dormancy Policy.
Phantombeta (talk) 17:48, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

@Phantombeta: There is currently not a lot of content on the Miraheze wiki. Will there be more content added in the future that would justify this exemption? Reception123 (talk) (C) 18:14, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

SSL Certificate invalid

Hello, I use CloudFlare to cache my wiki and use its Universal SSL certificate. My wiki, https://vmcodex.net/, also uses a LetsEncrypt SSL cert. If I set CloudFlare's SSL security to "Full (Strict)" (i.e. origin must have a validated SSL certificate), I receive an error 526, Invalid SSL certificate. I can override this by changing to "Full", which allows invalid SSL certificates from the origin (usually for self-signed certs) but I would prefer to be in this state as little as possible.

If I bypass CloudFlare entirely, it looks like the LetsEncrypt certificate expired yesterday and was not renewed (see screenshot here).

Thanks for your help! NotoriousRBG (talk) 02:03, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Hello, if you set it so your domain does not use the cloud flare caching, we will be able to renew the domain. Apologies (I must have missed the domain). Paladox (talk) 02:33, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
I've renewed the ssl cert now! Also we doin't allow you to use cloudflare caching see Custom Domains - Cloudflare. Paladox (talk) 13:31, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Done. NotoriousRBG (talk) 14:46, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Special:ManageWiki

https://hypohurricanes.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:ManageWiki/permissions has some problems. I want all the wikis in the Hypomedia Foundation (the foundation that i own) to have all the managewiki permissions restricted to the user right Hypomedia Foundation System Administrator and not b-crats. Please do this for all HMF wikis. Please also change the settings at [3] and [4]. Thank you.
Cheers, Fungster My talk | My contributions | FMF Meta | CA 05:13, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Also, please, after doing this action, please give me the right 'Hypomedia_Foundation_System_Administrators" locally on this wiki. Fungster My talk | My contributions | FMF Meta | CA 05:17, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Not a Bureaucrat

Greetings. I had my wiki created yesterday and when I wanted to access Special:ManageWiki I realized that my user (DanialTP) did not have Bureaucrat permissions and could not manage the wiki despite being the only user on the wiki. Here: https://amenthesproject.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AUserRights&user=DanialTP you can see that I only have administrator powers and not a bureaucrat, while here: https://amenthesproject.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:ListUsers you can see that I am the only user.

It would be great if I could be given bureaucrat powers such that I can use the ManageWiki function especially since I created the wiki. Thanks!

Hello, i've deleted and recreated your wiki. You are now a Bureaucrat!. (You will have to re upload the files though). Paladox (talk) 14:13, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

A little doubt...

  • Dude, it's possible to rename users in Miraheze wikis?
  • It's possible to check the user's logs/registers (CheckUser)?
  • I created the Founder members group in Rewiki, but i'm forbidden to choose this permission for me (gray option).

-Haizaki (talk) 15:49, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Both are possible, but the action itself is limited to Stewards and Staff as necessary. Renaming should be done by a user requesting it through Special:GlobalRenameRequest, and the page CheckUser should outline how we use that tool. To get into a custom group, you can do something akin to going to Special:ManageWiki/permissions/bureaucrat and using the Group Assignments tab to make it so that the bureaucrat can add and remove the Founder group. Once you've added it to yourself, you can then disallow bureaucrats from adding the Founder group. -- Void Whispers 16:41, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
Right. I'll try this.Haizaki (talk) 16:50, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
