Error "invalid character" when requesting a wiki

Hello, I'd like to try miraheze as classroom wiki as a replacement for wikispaces. I wanted to request a wiki with the subdomain aklasse.miraheze.org an the wiki name A-Klasse, I set the language to de-ch an wrote classroom wiki into the description field. The request wasn't accepted, it said that there is an invalid (or unallowed?) character in the request. I tried it a second time with the wiki name set to Aklasse, ommiting the dash (as I couldn't see any other possibly invalid character in my request): I got the same result. How can I make this work? Thank you for helping me out. Kaspar Helmle (talk) 11:05, 20 February 2018 (UTC) This problem is solved, thank you MacFan4000 Kaspar Helmle (talk) 06:00, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I am beginning in the process of creating a Wiki on miraheze, I've got the invalid character error message, the problem seems not solved, I had suppressed "é" letters, but it doesn't change anything, thank you for your answer ?! Philippe

I will investigate this error. @Wikiderpdp: In the meantime please post your request here (title, URL, description) and someone will create it manually. Reception123 (talk) (C) 12:45, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Request to poach another user's name

It has been six months, the time at which I said, on my user page at The Mirror, I would request a change of user name. I joined late last August, have contributed content, a little money, copy-editing for policy pages like FAQ and the Gazetteer of wikis, and participation in various discussions. Whereas user Spike, who joined late last July, seems to have 1 contribution, an upload of a screen shot to Lonsdale Battalion, where it is not useful nor was ever used. If it is allowed, I would like to change my username to Spike, as I was and would still be known at Wikia Uncyclopedia if their login page worked with older browsers. And I have not put the dog suit on in years. Spıke (talk)03:15 25-Feb-2018

Comment: Even if this is done now by a Steward, I think we should have a policy about these sort of things, so that users know what to expect. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:16, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
@Spike the Dog: I agree with @Reception123: on this. The user you mention is a mate of mine who has contributed a lot on other military-based websites, my old forum and his own Lonsdale Battalion website, all with the same username, which has been around for many years. I doubt he will be contributing anything anytime soon on my wiki as he is usually busy working on his own projects, however, there is always the possibility he would want to contribute on my wiki in the future, even if to upload the occasional image or edit a page, which he might do as our projects have in the past crossed over. If there was a policy in place that stated if users didn't contribute in a set amount of time (unless they had a requested, for example, a dormancy period etc.) then they would effectively forfeit that account and, as part of a sub-clause, other users could request the adoption of that username. If that was the case and there was an official Miraheze policy in place, then I would have no issue with you poaching that username. Borderman (Talk) 10:27, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

@Reception123: I agree. "Six months" sounds like a policy but it is not (yet) a policy. @Borderman: That is useful information, upon which the thing to do is not request to poach but inquire on what terms he would relinquish the username Spike and pick another. Spıke (talk)10:36 25-Feb-2018

Before a six month period users could "discuss" amongst themselves the terms to relinquish a username provided they followed a specific policy for this purpose. If an inactive user isn't around to discuss this then policy could dictate he/she might have to wait until a set period of time has elapsed before that username can be claimed by someone else, very similar to requesting to a adopt a wiki etc. Certainly anything after six months (and this is just a ballpark figure open to debate and change) of inactivity and without a user dormancy request, a user could potentially forfeit his/her username and anyone could effectively request it as their own. But there will no doubt be a lot more to it than that and it would take a little time for a policy to be drafted, agreed upon and officially put into use. Borderman (Talk) 11:24, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

If they have a 'copyrightable' contribution on any live wiki (not-deleted-from-database), it cannot be usurped (borrowing Wikimedia term here) for legal reason. (Creative Commons' Attribution requirements) If they are really empty and is not active for at least 6-12 months (duration subject to change) then with (2-4) week prior notice, it could be usurped. Rules about changing username should be sort of global policy because the username is globally unique, and our username policy is already a global one. — revi 14:08, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

Well, even though it did not contain anything pertaining to this precise example, there was an RfC on this matter, which was closed due to no clear consensus for any of the proposed policies. So, we might want to have a discussion here and draft a new policy which will be favorable for everyone. Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:30, 3 March 2018 (UTC)

Request reversal of protection of effectively the entire When They Cry wiki from non-admins

Hello, I am relatively new to the When They Cry wiki (whentheycry.miraheze.org), and I noticed that seemingly all of the pages on the wiki (even my own and others' user / user-talk pages) are protected from editing. Having been an editor of Wikipedia for 10 years and of Wikia for 16 months, I could understand certain pages' need for protection based on precedents, or even a temporary edit-permission autoblock until one has logged enough browsing time on the wiki.

However, it has taken me quite a bit of digging to find that these pages are protected from editing by any user who is not an Administrator. I would add that the last and most successful bit of research into the matter involved altering the url to include w/index.php?title=page name&action=edit, which only users already extremely well acquainted would know to do. There is no notice or disclaimer whatsoever that basic-level users are denied edit permissions, or for what reason(s); no reasonably-accessible record of this change having ever taken place; and no way to contact Administrators (since edit permissions are denied even on user-talk pages).

A Steward's look into the matter and appropriate action thereafter would be greatly appreciated. Should the Steward be unwilling to mandate an unprotect of most pages, an encouragement of the wiki's Admins to at least put up notices regarding the specifics of the edit protection would itself go a long way.

Thank you for your time and consideration, BlueCaper (talk) 21:53, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

If you were able to use the URL trick, then it strikes me that the page isn't really protected. At Uncyclopedia, people made the Edit button go away (from very old Forum pages that only a vandal would add to) using JavaScript. Here, the local Admins might have wanted a semi-private, read-only wiki, but you are right, they ought to allow communication to themselves. Spıke (talk)23:24 26-Feb-2018
The ability to edit was restricted to administrators in phabricator task 2331. I'd suggest contacting User:Kinzo on this wiki, and we'll go from there. Although, it would seem like a good idea to allow users to at least edit their own talk pages, if not the talk pages of other users. -- Void Whispers 23:37, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
There is now a Phabricator task requested by a local bureaucrat, T2785, so in the point of view of this Stewards' Noticeboard post, this is a resolved issue (the task itself has not been done yet). Reception123 (talk) (C) 09:55, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Inviting participants

Hello,

That's my day 3 on miraheze, I'm quite exciting about beginning a Wiki ! Please, what's the easiest procedure about creating accounts for new participants, my colleagues asked me "where the application form ?" So I send them this link : https://didapro.miraheze.org/wiki/Spécial:Créer_un_compte but it seems that they get an error message, with something like : "erreur d'administration". Is there a parameter issue coming from me ? is it a question of procedure ? Is there a bug to create account ? Thank you Wikiderpdp

If you know their email address, try these procedures:
  1. Collect your colleagues' email address and their preferred username. They must be able to receive email, because temporary passwords will be sent to mail.
  2. You'll access Special:CreateAccount on your wiki, not here.
  3. Tick "Use a temporary random password and send it to the specified email address".
  4. Put your colleagues username and email address.
  5. Create the account.
  6. Right after that, visit Special:UserRights on your wiki.
  7. Put their username, grant "member" to their account, save.
  8. Repeat for all of them.
If you don't know...
  1. Ask them to create an account here, using https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:CreateAccount .
  2. Then ask them their username, and also to visit your wiki. This is important, even though they can't see their contents when they first visit.
  3. After they visit your wiki, you'll see their username in Special:ListUsers.
  4. Go to "If you know their email address" #6, and continue there.
revi 10:12, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you, that's clear, but why can't they directly open an account by themself ? User:Wikiderpdp
Our account name is shared across wikis and it automatically creates an account when unauthorized miraheze ID owner clicks a link to your wiki. So "Member" permission is needed to prevent data leak from such attack. And I assume non-members cannot access create account page because it is not whitelisted. — revi 11:57, 12 March 2018 (UTC),
In the past, we have added translations of Special:CreateAccount to the whitelist. It might be a good idea to add this as well. -- Void Whispers 15:47, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

Insert MS Word files format or other office solution format

Hello, I tried to insert a .docx file format document yesterday and I got an error message, does it mean that I have to ask for an extension in request features Does it depend of the version *.doc ou .docx ? photos are OK. What can I expect ? Thank you Philippe Wikiderpdp

Hello, .doc and so on are not file types that can be uploaded. The usual way of importing text is to copy it on your computer and paste it into an edit box on Miraheze. However, our wikis use the MediaWiki markup language. For example, you boldface some text by preceding and following it with three single-quotes in a row. Microsoft Word and similar programs don't know about this. Usually when you import text you need to pretty it up by adding this mark-up. Spıke (talk)14:56 12-Mar-2018
Thank you, so there is no way to offer to create pages with files attachement to download ? Wikiderpdp
@Wikiderpdp: By default, there is no way to upload .doc and .docx files onto Miraheze wikis, but that can change. If you know how to edit basic code in PHP, I suggest you submit a pull request at Miraheze's mw-config/LocalSettings.php file. Or, if you don't, just go to phab:, Miraheze's Phabricator, and request to add a variation of this on your wiki:
$wgFileExtensions = array_merge( $wgFileExtensions, array( 'doc', 'docx'));

Change Username

Hi. I had a small issue similar to this one (https://phabricator.miraheze.org/T2646) and the solution was to create a new account and not use the account that was made for me from the Admin.

Could you please change around the username's in the wiki tag.miraheze.org from YC Tenenbaum to Admin YCT and YC Tenenbaum2 to YC Tenenbaum

Thanks!

PS. You guys ROCK!!!

Can you please confirm the rename from the account YC Tenenbaum2? Alternately, there may be way to fix the issue by a sysadmin merging the account to global. -- Void Whispers 22:23, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

HI. To confirm: I want to change YC Tenenbaum to Admin YCT and then after that change YC Tenenbaum2 to YC Tenenbaum (basically just drop the 2).

Basically, I want the second account to have the name of the first account. In order to do that, I would think we need to change the name of the first account first.

Thanks again!

Sorry I wasn't too clear, I meant confirm the rename while logged into the account. -- Void Whispers 19:29, 16 March 2018 (UTC)

Right. I followed the guide on importing infoboxes from other wikis. I also imported both the common.css and .js. 1. If you know everyone's email, you can just create an account, and let MediaWiki generate password and email to them. And after you create an account, you can access [[Special:UserRights]] and grant member to the accounts you need. I have succeed with 6 subscribers and they get 6 error messages. But right now I am chatting with a capable person, using Chrome and she can not go over the error message To complete I get the wiki plugin for the visual editor, also, does it create buggy answers to invitations ?

As an admin on PublicTestWiki, shall I block them or not? Thanks. Pkbwcgs (talk) 19:14, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

I just saw another AbuseLog hit on PublicTestWiki, literally moments ago after writing the above message. The extent of the problem is quite bad. Pkbwcgs (talk) 19:16, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I have to leave this message anonimously because I can no longer login, both on my wiki and here on Meta (I'm Wedhro); the system keeps giving me the error "No active login attempt is in progress for your session." Hello i am one of the ops looking into this. When you deleted your cookie which site did you do? was it miraheze.org? which wiki are you having problems on? Paladox (talk) 17:39, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
In the logs it showed that account as last successfully logging in at 16:01:13 today on metawiki. Could you try resetting your password? Paladox (talk) 17:43, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
I couldn't login both on https://nonciclopedia.miraheze.org and here on Meta. I changed my password and now I'm logged in, but I wonder the reason why I couldn't before.--Wedhro (talk) 18:13, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

It's me again. After logging out I could no longer log in, same error as above. I deleted all cookies and tried 4 different browser but nothing. I could log in only by changing my password again, which is getting quite unconvenient. I wish I could give you some technical detail but I really have no idea what's happening.--Wedhro (talk) 09:48, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello, we fixed the problem, could you try relogging in and deleting your cookies for those wiki's please? Paladox (talk) 23:00, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

User right request:editinterwiki for sysops on my local wiki

Hi, I'm the bureaucrat/sysop on Piowiki, and I'd like to ask a Steward to add editinterwiki rights for sysops so that I can edit local interwiki links suitable for a wiki in Japanese. I also want to test interwiki links as other languages (since my wiki is mainly for testing before moving Usopedia on miraheze, and Usopedia is a candidate sister wiki of Illogicopedia), so please enable it in addition.

Thank you for your help.--開拓者 (talk)

Hi please tell us what you need us to add, and we will do it for you. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 22:47, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
OK, as a Japanese wiki, I'd like to add the following links as for now.
  1. Group 1: Japanese local wikis
  2. Group 2: The Japanese versions of global wikis, to avoid double redirect
As for lanugage interwiki links, I don't have it yet, but I might notify you after creating another wiki.--開拓者 (talk) 13:28, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

Could missing pages get redirected?

Before I moved the sdiywiki to Miraheze the tidied URL was with /w/. So that now following old links on the web, (e.g. old posts in forums or Facebook) get a 404 page not found. Please could https://sdiy.info/w/* be made to redirect to https://sdiy.info/wiki/*? --Rob Kam (talk) 10:40, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

User right request:editinterwiki for sysops on Nonsensopedia and Nonciclopedia

Hi. I see that Nonsensopedia has moved here and the various interlanguage links from it to other Uncyclopedia languages are now broken. The language codes on http://uncyclopedia.info/wiki/Special:Interwiki will need to be created for any of the Uncyclopedia-related projects (including Nonsensopedia) and the bureaucrats on the respective projects given 'editinterwiki' in order to maintain this list. As each Uncyclopedia language is an independent project and free to be hosted separately (I have some, Wikia has some, some are independent...) these tend to be awkward to keep up to date, hence the need to give the individual wiki bureaucrats access to make changes.

I also see that $wgLogo isn't currently pointing to the Uncyclopedia project's logo - the usual convention on both Uncyclopedia and Wikia appears to have been to routinely set $wgLogo to images/b/bc/Wiki.png on each local project, so https://nonsensopedia.miraheze.org/wiki/Plik:Wiki.png should display as that wiki's $wgLogo. Can this be done here? Carlb (talk) 02:57, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

Comment: As for the logo, go to Special:ManageWiki on your wiki, enter the URL (starting with static.miraheze.org, note that you need to remove the "https:" part) of the image (which is, //static.miraheze.org/nonsensopediawiki/b/bc/Wiki.png for nonsensopedia, for example), and save it. Then it will work properly within a few minutes or so.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 10:19, 14 June 2018 (UTC)modded.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 10:41, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

bureaucrat authority

The state that the bureaucrat is absent continues. I am the only sysop that is active. Can you give me the bureaucrat authority in the home wiki? Thank you. 賢者タイム (talk) 19:12, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

@賢者タイム: Hi. Is it possible for you to get consensus from the other users on the wiki for you to become a bureaucrat? For example, create a page on your wiki requesting bureaucrat rights, and get users to comment and vote (support/oppose) etc. Please link that page and the result here. Reception123 (talk) (C) 10:37, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
I agreed. So this time I will choose a method that will not be BC. Please give administrator authority to User:ゆきひかり who is trusted as an administrator candidate. Please handle the operation due to absence of BC. Thank you. 賢者タイム (talk) 01:03, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
I also participate in jawp2ch.miraheze and an in sympathy with promotion ひきひかり to sysop. But sole formerly-active bureaucrat has disappeared. What happened to my pages? Kpiq

Folks

Yesterday, June 5, 2018, out of nowhere my pages and my login dissappeared. I couldn't login nor could I see my pages. That was posted into the Admin's noticeboard and somebody transferred it and resolved it in the Community noticeboard.

I say "resolved" because I can login again. But today my pages are still nowhere to be found. I did a search by User and looked for my pages. Here's what I see where I would expect to see my user.

User:Kevjonesin User:Kgv User:Khep User:Kidgrifter User:Kiko4564 User:Kimtuna11 User:Kin Ele Tic User:Kitheara User:Kivandopulus User:Kjh010206 User:KniznyKlub User:Kourouklides User:LCARS47 User:Labster

Can somebody restore my pages as they were when last updated, June 5 near noon time?

Unless the stewards can be proven to not be able to handle requests in a fast manner and unless the community then approves a user via vote the short answer is no. linen.miraheze.org as a "read" WIKI

Hi Stewards,

I am the originator and main contributor to the WIKI "Wings of Linen" (linen.miraheze.org), which is a informational site about WWI aircraft, scale models thereof, and their use in games. The WIKI already has hundreds of pages and redirects with hundreds of hours of work put into it.

As an informational site, there will be times when a lot of data is added to the site, and there will be times when it is mostly used as a static reference, with few edits.

I would like to apply for it to be added as an exception to the general Dormancy Policy under the clause, "Wikis made to be read, where a lot of information is already on wiki and doesn't need to be actively edited." I think this WIKI very well meets that definition (although I hope over time to recruit more contributors and thereby encourage more frequent edits). Otherwise it is vulnerable to the dormant-WIKI policy any time my hands get too full to make new contributions for a few weeks.

Thanks,

Check IP adress for potential duplicate user

Hello!

This is all taking place on zendari.miraheze.org.

Would it be possible for you to check the IP adresses for the users "AnickaFryckova" and "Simonka1234567" (without the quotes)? The admins of the wiki (me along with others) are suspicious of them being duplicate users.

We run an online song contest where people create their own countries and compete, and we do not allow users to have more than one country/account. They just made a suspicious edit that might indicate that they are using multiple accounts.

All I need to know is if the IP adresses are similar, or if one of them is using an IP adress which might look like a proxy. They're both from Czech Republic, so both IP adresses should point to Czech Republic. If they don't, then we can pretty easily confirm that one of the accounts are using a proxy.

Thanks in advance!

~ Stewen (talk) 17:03, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

I can confirm from a technical view, the accounts are technically identically. It is beyond reasonable doubt that the accounts are operated by the same person on a technical level. John (talk) 21:36, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

待ってください。ウソのペディアなんて安直な名称なんて、被ってもおかしくありませんよね?User_talk:huttleyを御覧ください。
Stop!!!"ウソペディア"is "ウソ"+"ペディア"."ウソ" is a "lie"."ウソペディア" is about lie!It is a simple name, and it can be casually overlapped. So, I'm sorry for Mr. 開拓者, but I would like you to endure it.--Huttley (talk) 14:00, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
This guy claims that s/he has succeeded a private wiki created 7 years ago, which is unlikely, as s/he cannot show any verifiable proofs. Rather, there are several unlikely matches between usopedia.aioilight.space and usopedia on miraheze (user name, wiki name, and timing), indicating s/he is trying to disrupt our migration.
Please also note that LTAs on Japanese wikis are already using miraheze, and has created "unofficial" English enpedia WITHOUT discussing on the ORIGINAL enpedia, which is a Japanese wiki and so far has no plan to create other language version. The case of usopedia might be similar (that is, the Miraheze Usopedia might have been requested by an LTA on the original Usopedia).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 00:09, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
Please do not judge LTA.
@Videojeux4"enpedia" is "en" + "pedia". "usopedia" is "uso" + "pedia"."en"(not "EN"glish!) has no meaning in Japanese. but "uso" has the meaning of a "lie" in Japanese. So,"enpedia" is a unique and not used much name, but "usopedia" is a simple name. unique and not used much name rarely coincide by chance, but there is a high possibility of overlapping if simple names. Actually, there are many "usopedia" in Japan. Because it is a simple name, I think that this is the first come, first served.
and, Mr.開拓者 said "LTA,Spoofing", so, I am very unpleasant.
--Huttley (talk) 06:06, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
I didn't determine that YOU ARE ACTUALLY AN LTA, did I? I was just talking about possibilities. Enpedia is an abbreviated form of Encyclopedia, and "en" has lots of meaning in Japanese, as a matter of fact (ex. the currency "yen" is actually pronounced and written "en(えん)"). He claims that the wiki originates from mushroomwiki (which is a private wiki, while Usopedia is a public wiki), and I don't see any reason that s/he needed to change the wiki's name, even if the wiki acutually existed. There are, in fact, some websites using the same name, but most of them are the previous domains of Usopedia. In addition, he doesn't have a good explanation for the user name Huttley (one coincidence might occur, but 2 or more (including the timing) are very unlikely, unless you are doing it intentionally).
I should also note that, even though the claimed copyright is dated in 2011 (7 years ago), the page was last modified at 06/25/2018 14:31:56 (JST=UTC+9) , indicating that the page was created just a few hours ago, just to justify his/her action (in addition, its only readable subpage was last modified at 06/25/2018 14:42:45).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 10:41, 25 June 2018 (UTC)modded.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:15, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
私が1年前にusopedia.miraheze.orgを作っていても、偽物だと言うですか?単純な名前ですから、早い者勝ちです。無料のサービスですから余計です。もし私がusopedia.comを作っていたら成り済ましだと訴えるのですか??関連性をきっぱりと我々は否定しているので、これ以上文句を言わないでください。
You are mistaking the key point. It is "last update", not "create". That is important. The time you presented, certainly updates the display content to show to Mr. プログラマリオ, adds a message for usopedia.aioilight.space, color the letters the next day the next day. Why can you say that I just made it for fraud just by last update?
Repeat it. You are posting that you are "trying to create a fake website" yet even though it is only a simple and unassuming name suffered as "lie pedia". Even if I made usopedia.miraheze.org one year ago, will you say it is a fakesite? Because it is a simple name, it is first come, first served. It's extra because it's a free service. If I am using usopedia.com, would you appeal that it is becoming a spoof? Since we deny the relevance once and for all, please do not complain any more.
P.S.In the event of any differences in meaning between the original Japanese version and a English version, the original Japanese version is correct. / 日本語版と英語版の意味に違いがある場合、元の日本語版が正しいです。--Huttley (talk) 09:39, 27 June 2018 (UTC)
No matter what you say, it's no use. I've taken contact with the sysadmin of myht (where your original website is located), and everything will be made clear soon.
I should also note that Usopedia is known better than Miraheze by the Japanese (ex. the article ウソペディア on enpedia was created more than two and a half years earlier than the article Miraheze, which was created just about two weeks ago), and it is very unlikely, being a wiki editor, that s/he only knew Miraheze and didn't know Usopedia until プログラマリオ and I told him/her (which is his/her argument). This also indicates that s/he is pretending as if s/he is innocent.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 18:28, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

(resetted the indents)I have contacted the sysadmin of myht, and it was proven that the website s/he claims to be the origin of his/her wiki was created at 2018/6/25 13:05:15 (JST), definitely not in 2011. Because of this, two things have been proven.

  1. Huttley is a liar, and what s/he claims cannot be trusted.
  2. Mushroomwiki was indeed created only to justify his/her claim, after プログラマリオ told him/her to prove his/her claim at 14:50, 24 June 2018 (UTC) (or 23:50, 24 June 2018 (JST)).

Therefore, I will request again, and this time strongly, to close the fake Usopedia on Miraheze.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 09:56, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

Request for clean up of pages created by a Japanese LTA

Hi, I've found some copyright infringement contents on some of the wikis created by User:ニューヌオック and User:Murabic, and would like to request for clean up (deletion) of such pages.

They are:

I should also note that these two accounts are probably that of a Japanese cross wiki vandal, as the names

  1. ニューヌオック means new ゆっくりヌオック, which is blocked on multiple wikis.
  2. Murabic is an abbreviation of MurabitoChannel (ムラビトチャンネル), which is blocked on Japanese Wikipedia, and is identical with ゆっくりヌオック.

As long as they don't violate the policies too much, I won't ask to block them on Miraheze (because activities outside Miraheze is not a valid reason to block on Miraheze), but please be cautious to their activities.

Thanks for reading.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 13:10, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

P.S. I have made some edits on vandalism wiki, and am willing to continue activities there. I'm still not sure whether I'll adopt the wiki, but I'd be happy if you remove the wiki from candidate of closing.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 13:10, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

This doesn't really matture though because attribution wasn't provided in any of the examples. PuppyKun (talk) 17:05, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
You're right about the licenses of Usopedia (CC BY-NC 4.0) and Enpedia (CC BY-SA 3.0). The problem is that those users seems to be inactive recently, and they are creators/admins/bureaucrats of those wikis ,which means it's unlikely that they'll deal with the issue even if I ask them to. As shown in the link above, this user has been repeating copyright infringements across wikis, and has shown no will of apology in any of them so far. Thus, I believe that a Steward should deal with it.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:35, 29 June 2018 (UTC)
So here’s what we could do IMO:
A. Delete the wiki (wellpediawiki and/or englishenpediawiki) per ToU
B. Delete the pages and lock the mentioned accounts per ToU
It would be very helpful to have input from Abuse Team members like @Reception123: and/or stewards like @Void:. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 15:14, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
Deleting the wiki would be a bit of a nuclear option. I would much favor bringing up the issue of attribution with the creator/author first prior to removing the content. Or otherwise removing the content that is a violation, and giving the option to restore it with proper attribution and copyright handling. -- Void Whispers 16:45, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
@MacFan4000:Especially for English Enpedia, I would request it to be deleted, as the Original Enpedia (in Japanese) does not recognize any versions in different language so far. Because of this reason, tsaipedia, a weird wiki with its title in Japanese and language in Chinese, should also be closed, as this wiki is using the name Enpedia and was requested by the same Murabic account. As for locking the accounts, I'm not sure (as generally, those issues should be warned at least once, before locking), but am not against it.
@Void:That option might work for wellpedia, but the problem with English Enpedia is that it is not official, and was rather created by a vandal of the original wiki. This (in addition to copyright issue) is why I request it to be deleted.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 17:29, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
The LTAs were confirmed, locked and the pages were deleted. So, this is now  Done. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 14:07, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Request for Global edit of SiteNotice about the updated default license

Hi.

First, please see this task on phabricator, if you don't know what happened. Speaking briefly, John has decided to update the global default license of Miraheze from CC BY-SA 3.0 to CC BY-SA 4.0, and now the default license has been updated. However, since it is not widely known to the community yet, and not all users use Miraheze meta or check the footer regularly, I would like to ask a Steward to create a global SiteNotice displayed above, on ALL Miraheze wikis.

I'm also concerned that there seems to be no open discussion for this decision (though technically and legally it's possible to update, this can affect some wikis that might export their contents to other wikis outside, such as Wikipedia or Illogicopedia).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 17:09, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

CheckUser Request: usopedia.miraheze.org

Hi.

I was suspected that 開拓者 "All the vandalism that happened in the usopedia.miraheze.org is your own self-made performance". Therefore, I ask CheckUser to insist on my innocence.

    • This is my account.

In this time, please check the relevancy between my account and the vandalism accounts listed above.--Huttley (talk) 16:07, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

I didn't actually suspect (just indicated one possibility), but anyways, CU requests performed by users should be dealt in a careful manner, as mentioned in the MediaWiki official (just in case). And if possible, I'd like to ask for an additional global check with User:Murabic and User:ニューヌオック, which are presumably accounts of a Japanese LTA, and copied contents on Enpedia and Usopedia.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 16:27, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
I don't like looking into accounts to check for innocence or whatever. However, I took a cursory look into the vandal accounts listed above and determined that they all can be considered technically identical except for one or two. There is no apparent link to Huttley. -- Void Whispers 19:00, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
thanks.--Huttley (talk) 01:15, 1 July 2018 (UTC)
@Void:OK, did you also check out whether the IP used by Huttley is not against No open proxies policy?--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 06:32, 1 July 2018 (UTC)
”open proxies may not be used for anonymous editing of Miraheze sites.” Therefore whether registered editors use them is irrelevant. John (talk) 06:46, 1 July 2018 (UTC)
Oh yeah, that is the case on Miraheze, indeed (just got a bit confused with other wikis I use). NVM. --開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 06:52, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

CheckUser request for:Kurie, ニューヌオック, and Murabic

Hi. I'd like to post a checkuser request for accounts Kurie, ニューヌオック, and Murabic, as they seem to be operated by the same Japanese LTA. Here are the evidences I believe so:

  1. Common style of request, seen between Kurie and Murabic.
    1. Making a request in various language at the same time (en, ru, etc.).
    2. Requesting unofficial alternative language version of Japanese wikis (newwindpaedia(新風百科事典) for Kurie, and Enpedia for Murabic)
  2. Related user names, seen between ニューヌオック and Murabic: ニューヌオック means new "ゆっくりヌオック," and Murabic is an abbreviation for "MurabitoChannel," or ムラビトチャンネル in Japanese, and these to accounts on Japanese Wikipedia are regarded as identical.
  3. Possibility to avoid dealing with copyrights infringement issues posted above: It is possible that ニューヌオック/Murabic has created a new account Kurie to avoid being accused of or/and dealing with copyright infringement issues.

If it's proven that they are indeed identical, they should be locked globally, as this user is a known cross-wiki vandal, and has almost no possibility of improving. Thanks for reading.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 12:03, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

I have handled the request as asked. John (talk) 13:07, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. I also confirmed that the wikis (including English Enpedia) was closed by MacFan4000, and also would like to thank MacFan4000.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 13:45, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Uh, it seems to me that atleast one of the accounts is still active. I guess locking IPs only will not work against this user.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 04:28, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
And Kurie posted Russian sentences on my talk page, though this user knows that both s/he and I are Japanese natives (ja-n), since s/he refers to my user page babel. Communicating in different language itself may not be a vandal activity, but being doubted as an account of an LTA, it is clear that it's an inappropriate action.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 09:13, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
There is no technical evidence linking the first two accounts listed to any other accounts, therefore I did not action and still will not action as this seems to be based solely on behaviour in a language I do not understand well enough to make reasoned arguments for or against. John (talk) 11:10, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
OK... Then I should continue monitoring this user's action (as s/he might create another account). Thanks for your answer.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:40, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

You should make a request here to adopt the wiki. However, because the wiki is in Korean and you want a Japanese wiki, it may be difficult to adopt it. OTOH, you can ask whether it's eligible for deletion (if it is, I guess you have a chance to regain the domain).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 10:24, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

CheckUser request for:Ohii Abyss, 亞音

Hello. I'd like to post a checkuser request for User:Ohii Abyss and User:亞音. Because they uploaded a SEGA Games Co., Ltd. logo. So they are vandalism. Thank you.--プログラマリオ (Pen name:Mario Yonezawa) 11:55, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

As a user of プログラマリオ's wiki "Ourwiki," the wiki in question, I'd also like to add セガノビール (using the name "sega"), ジリオン (uploaded a logo with a font similar to sega), and イタリア語で鋸 (who strongly supports SEGA and indicating relations with other accounts). They are also blocked on the wiki (except for イタリア語で鋸), they all claim to be fans of SEGA and anti-Nintendo, and we think that these accounts all belong to a cross-wiki LTA.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 13:09, 10 July 2018 (UTC)
We're still discussing this issue on Ourwiki. We might add some other accounts / evidences for this request. Thanks.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 14:26, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

A wiki active with zero activities

Hi, I happened to find that this wiki hasn't been edited for more than 60 days. I have also found that no one has edited this wiki so far and the only logs are that of automatic account creations. According to the Dormancy Policy, this means that this wiki can be closed and marked as "eligible for deletion." I know it's a minimum limit, but since I have found one, I'd just like to report it. Thank you.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 14:57, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

@開拓者: Thank you for the report, however this is all done by a script, so there is no need for you to find and report wikis as they will automatically be found and closed by the script. Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:10, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
@Reception123: I see. Thanks for telling me.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 05:18, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Issues with Access

Hi there,

I am trying to access the special:managewiki page on voidborne.miraheze.org/wiki but it says access denied.

Is this correct? If so, how do I change the default picture, and set access restrictions? also I am trying to figure out how to edit the navigation sidebar so I can make pages live.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kindest Regards Justin

@Cyberlooper: what specific error are you getting? If it states "You do not have permission to manage wiki settings, for the following reason: The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Bureaucrats.", then you should just make sure you are still logged in to your account. As for your other questions, the logo is set by an option at the bottom of the Special:ManageWiki settings. You need to first upload the image you want as your logo, and then open the image in a new window. The URL should look something like https://static.miraheze.org/voidbornewiki/XX/XX/File_name.png. You must copy and past this into the logo option for ManageWiki. For access restrictions, you can take a look at using page protection, or otherwise we can set it so that your entire wiki can only be edited by users you add. -- Void Whispers 23:21, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

Question

Hello, if i request a checkUser from the stewards how will i get the data (eg. IP address) and results? And what kind of data can I get from the CheckUser? And also what does “LTA” mean in terms of the hosting service? LTA means “Land Transport Authority” in my place of residence...

See Extension:CheckUser for usages and available data. LTA usually means "Long Term Abuse" on wikis.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 10:46, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
Also in general, we do not disclose IP addresses either in public or in private to members not on the staff team, and even then only when absolutely needed. At most we will state if two (or more) accounts are related and never if an IP is related to an account. -- Void Whispers 19:36, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
