    Question

hi excuse me but in my wikitrash I can not see anything and I am told that in order to see my wikis or even the contributions I have to be part of my group. can anyone help me out of this situation ?? when I go to wikitrash the only thing I see is "NOT SUFFICIENT PERMITS" A1cb3 (talk) 22:15, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi! So, a quick look at CentralAuth reveals that the issue is exactly that, you don't have the necessary user rights to access the wiki because it is a private wiki. The people that can help you are the Stewards, this is the Meta admin noticeboard, they can't help you. I'll move your thread over to the Stewards noticeboard.
I also noticed that you're not the original founder of that wiki, checked using the farmer log. If local admins decided to remove you, it is very unlikely Stewards will intervene. OrangeStar (talk) 22:23, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

    Dormancy Policy exemption for decyclopediawiki

After an anonymous user made a report about Decyclopedia on this noticeboard in October, I announced that Decyclopedia was moving to an independent domain. That issue has since been resolved, but I still went ahead with the move, completing it by importing the images to the new domain last night. I would like a Dormancy Policy exemption for the Decyclopedia on Miraheze, since that wiki has now been archived and is no longer meant to be edited. Tali64³ (talk) 21:05, 1 November 2022 (UTC)

If the wiki moved, why does it need an exemption? Wouldn't a deletion be better? Agent Isai Talk to me! 00:38, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
If the wiki were to be deleted, visitors would be confused on why the wiki suddenly disappeared. Google's search results still show the Miraheze version, so it would be necessary to keep it up until the new domain appears in search results and all the relevant links are updated. Tali64³ (talk) 14:24, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

    Exemption Request

Can you please add an exemption to our The Lion King wiki? It's private and meant to be viewed by us and our other irl friends only. Admittedly we don't have much on it yet, but we will be adding more content to it soon.

    https://thelionking.miraheze.org/wiki/ Keznen (talk) 17:17, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

X mark.svg Not done I myself revoked your Dormancy Policy exemption as you had not used the wiki in years per Special:Log. Before today, you had 1 page with 2 sentences on the wiki. As such, I will not be inclined to grant it until much later once you have a good number of substantive pages. 1 page after 4 years of a wiki being open does not justify an exemption. Agent Isai Talk to me! 15:18, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
If we add more full pages next week, would we still have to wait until "much later"?
Also, what would "a good number of substantive pages" be? We can go ahead and copy off one of the public TLK wikis and edit out the stuff that doesn't adhere to our canon if need be.
But we can't add something like 50 pages with full paragraphs when our TLK universe doesn't have that amount of content yet. It simply isn't possible. Most characters are minor and wouldn't have that much to be said about them.
Please clarify so we can decide whether to keep our The Lion King wiki here or try to find somewhere else to host it (ShoutWiki if that gets fixed, not sure where we'll move it otherwise since Wikia/FANDUMB is unusable). Keznen (talk) 22:07, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
Yes, you would have to wait. You've held an empty wiki for 4 entire years without any need to have activity on it, a privilege none of our 5,000 other wikis and 10,000 wikis ever created on Miraheze had, have, or will ever have, and would've probably not returned to it any time soon had your exemption not been revoked and an email sent to you about your wiki being closed. Please read Dormancy Policy#Exemptions from the Dormancy Policy for information on how we determine requests. We will be inclined to grant a request once your wiki has a good number of pages and once time has passed. Your pages don't have to be huge paragraphs but the wiki has to be of substantive value and not just the one singular stub page your wiki had for over 4 years. For example, if your wiki discusses more topics in depth and more aspects of your universe then that'd count as substantive and I'd be inclined to regrant the exemption. Agent Isai Talk to me! 01:46, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Well we will not wait another 4 years or even 1 year. We couldn't if we wanted to. We don't have that time even with schoolwork and writer's block aside.
If we have to wait a long time even after adding more content, we might as well not add anything at all. Why go through the effort for basically nothing? If the wiki is still in danger of being nuked we might as well not risk losing anything substantial. Especially infoboxes, which we don't have for our TLK Wiki yet and don't have any backups of. Maybe we'll add a little occasionally but we won't go adding tons of stuff if there's a looming threat of it being deleted.
Also, again, we mostly just have character pages in mind right now. We have a couple things of our own lore written down, but most stuff about the first movie (the only fully canon movie in our TLK universe; the sequel movie and show aren't for the most part) would have to pulled from elsewhere. We can only post what we have already and what we can find elsewhere that's usable. (Writer's block is a pain.)
We'll touch up the pages with some much-needed pictures and some basic info, and then just keep bumping it every few days until ShoutWiki finally fixes their broken creation wizard so we can move it there and delete the one here. Keznen (talk) 02:59, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
I'm very glad to hear that 4 more years or even 1 more will not pass. As a reminder, you can backup your own wiki at Special:DataDump and Miraheze wikis are only deleted after 6-12 months of inactivity. If you add character pages then that'd be wonderful and would certainly help build your case towards an exemption. Hope to see your exemption application in a few weeks. Agent Isai Talk to me! 03:59, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Oh, phew! We'll continue adding more character pages, then. The templates should be working now so hopefully we'll have at least half of the character pages up in the following weeks.
Sorry for jumping the gun on you like that. It's been stressful for us all lately. Keznen (talk) 04:50, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

Use this section to request Stewards undelete a wiki if it was deleted for inactivity (not if it's 'closed' (i.e. uneditable but still online) in which case you must use Requests for reopening wikis).

To request a wiki deletion, if your wiki has multiple contributors, you must hold a local discussion beforehand and consensus must be in favor of the wiki closing. If your wiki is a small/personal one where you are the sole contributor, no discussion is needed.

Real Life Villains Wiki Potential Content Policy Violations?

At least 95% of the pages on there, do not have a source for reference. Considering that this wiki also features Internet users, I believe the wikis need to be warned for not having references to what they did wrong (EX: News report, or Wikipedia info) and they should delete pages that do not have sources. Any update? Nidoking (talk) 14:41, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
All the wiki really. When it covers relatively unknown living people being accused of stuff like child abuse, murder, and all that, it shouldn't assume that these are common knowledge, they should include solid references for such claims. OrangeStar (talk) 19:48, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
I believe at this juncture it would be ideal to raise the idea locally and see how receptive local managers are to cleaning up sources. Seeing how willing they are on this in public could give Stewards some ground to raise this topic as a priority if their intervention is required. --Raidarr (talk) 15:42, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
Alright, I'll give that a try. OrangeStar (talk) 19:33, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
Listen, what the wikis say will be heard of, and people will use that as their source much more than anything else.
If you're gonna go out of your way to get a wiki meant to educate people about real life villains and why people should not be them, then that means you are enabling bad people. RoboticBloxxer (talk) 17:34, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
The concern raised here is that the wiki is mostly unsourced. Given that it has many articles dealing with people, this could be a potential violation of CP 3 (and anyway, ignoring whatever the policy may say, it's best to include sources for the claims in any article whenever it's dealing with real life stuff, be it living people or other things). It's not our intention to enable bad people. OrangeStar (talk) 17:58, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

    Complicated issues with Polcompball Wiki

Was browsing the wiki during my unallocated free time, and I noticed that the local admins are planning to ban those 14 and under, which prolly violates the CoC. I attempted to raise the issues with the local admins as instructed by the CoC, but creation of pages in the user talk namespace was restricted. As such, I am posting about it here. Firestar464 (talk) 10:11, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

13 and under is against the Terms of Service. 14 is not required under the terms of service but the code of conduct makes no mention of this. Mostly it is a privacy issue and an irrelevant and redundant rule: they have no right or means to verify this and T&S only cares one year below. So it's a bit of a dumb rule for this reason.
Community discussion there takes place on their discord server, which should be found on their front page. --Raidarr (talk) 14:21, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm the creator of the Crazybloxian Empire info wiki, which was one of my oldest worldbuilding projects. I had informed the people here many years ago that it was meant to be read and would not be updated for months, which gave it immunity to the Dormancy Policy. On that occasion almost 20 000 schematic pages were created -But it could reach 40 000-. Please take the time to analyze what I am asking for. Thank you. Hispano76 (talk) 02:33, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

    • Requesting: dormancy policy exemption
    • Reason(s): Hello there, recently my wiki was lost due to an Outage, and it was recently restored, unfortunately, the entirety of the wiki was wiped and old media that was on it is no longer visible.

A feature that was also removed as a result of this, was the wiki Inactivity exemption that was enabled, The wiki is a private/public wiki, private being that only a certain permission can edit, but everyone can create a talk page and discuss the page.

The wiki typically doesn't receive much edits, and that is simply because with each new wiki page, I have to actually create the page, which takes quite a while sometimes, as typically, it has to be quite in depth, and sometimes it's a little challenging, with grammar and whatnot.

I was wondering, if it's okay with the staff, if I could have an inactivity exemption be placed on my wiki, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you. Kind regards, Chloe. (talk) 12:42, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

The Code of Conduct governs how users should behave. Wikis are free to restrict those under a certain age above 13. Agent Isai Talk to me! 14:45, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

    Discussion closure

    Instructions/Read before making a request

Please use this section to request a Steward close a local discussion. This may be in cases of local elections on wikis without bureaucrats, on wikis where local bureaucrats also voted thus needing a third-party to close, on wikis where the bureaucrat is inactive or unwilling to close a discussion, etc.

Kindly close RfC about CP amendments

This has been kind of left alone for a few days now. Can someone kindly close the RfC? Thank you! Firestar464 (talk) 09:11, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

My wiki lost its immunity to the Dormancy Policy

Hi there, I'm the creator of the Crazybloxian Empire info wiki, which was one of my oldest worldbuilding projects. I had informed the people here many years ago that it was meant to be read and would not be updated for months, which gave it immunity to the Dormancy Policy. I recently found out when checking my mail that the immunity was revoked when I got an email saying the wiki had been closed. May I know exactly why it was revoked?

I don't use this website much, but I do wish for my wiki to remain up for archival purposes.

And yes, I did download a full data dump of the site. •• Fair0002 • Bureaucrat and Administrator of Crazybloxian Empire Wiki 07:13, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

I revoked it as it was chronically inactive, empty, and unread. Please add a few more pages or show some signs of activity and we will consider regranting, thanks. Agent Isai Talk to me! 06:37, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
What exactly counts as "activity"? If I never add any new content but show up every few days to fix spelling and grammar does that count as enough activity for Dormancy Policy immunity? •• Fair0002 • Bureaucrat and Administrator of Crazybloxian Empire Wiki 10:39, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
I guess so The user who loves human heads on alien/animal bodies in cartoons for no reason (talk to me uwu!) 16:37, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
@Fair0002: I wouldn't get too hung up on the activity portion (iif you show up every few days you wouldn't need a DP exemption in the first place). The main issue is there being content of substance, and preferably some sign of life over the years. The more apparently complete the material the less that activity qualifier is relevant. I would assume the fact it was 'empty', the fact no readership appeared on the Analytics stats, and then showed no signs of growth over the years was why the exception was removed. --Raidarr (talk) 13:02, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

Wikis that are part of the outage

Are they lost forever, or can they be recovered somehow.

Few of the wikis I used called Trashy Vyond Videos wiki, and the Qualitipedia wiki were both targets of this and I cannot use them.

Is there a way I can use them again? Nidoking (talk) 14:49, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

The original requestor or a verifiable bureaucrat can put in a request with this process. Otherwise you must wait. --Raidarr (talk) 14:30, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I do believe most of the requesters who originally requested those wikis might be inactive or quit Miraheze altogether. So it's likely possible they can't. Nidoking (talk) 16:29, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Probably not, especially for reception wikis. --Raidarr (talk) 18:02, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

    Wiki Affected by Database outage

    Hi there,

The wiki I contribute to (darkisle.miraheze.org) was affected by the outage and I'm unable to recovery any of it through my own means outside of the landing page. I was curious if there were any internal backups of the wiki available to be reinstated on the wiki.

    Thanks.

Will wikis be marked as "inactive" after they reopen?

It's been almost 1 month since the database outage, and my wiki is still down. I last edited it on November 15th, and I'm just wondering if it takes over 60 days for the outage to be fixed will the wiki be marked as inactive? I'm also going to make frequent backups from this point onwards, just in case this happens again. Sheep42 (talk) 23:43, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Wiki might be effected by the outage.

Hello! I’m the requester for [https://tumblronpa.miraheze.org] and I currently can’t tell if the wiki was effected by the outage since it wasn’t on the list of public wikis on db141, but when anyone clicks the link, it gives us an error code stating "Wiki temporarily unavailable, A database issue has occured and this wiki is unavailable. We have been able to restore the data from the original db141 disks and will use that to restore this wiki. We will then merge all new edits back into your wiki." So I’m guessing it was and it wasn’t closed? Apologies if this is a waste of time, I’m currently new to all of this. Shsldetective (talk) 18:31, 20 December 2022 (UTC) Shsldetective (talk) 18:31, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

If the wiki was private, that might explain why it wasn't part of the list. The error message is the same as for other wikis on db141, so the wiki was likely part of that database. Tali64³ (talk) 04:19, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

    Requests for (un)(b)locks

    Instructions/Read before making a request

Please use this section to request global locks (including self-locks), blocks, or their rescindment. If reporting vandalism-only accounts, make sure they fit the global standard definition for vandalism only accounts: there must be no or almost no constructive editing behaviour and, additionally, this behaviour should be occurring on multiple wikis.

If requesting a global lock, place the following at the very bottom of this section. Replace every section as needed:

    == Username ==
    {{status}}
*{{LockHide|username1|hidename=1}} <!-- include hidename=1 if you want to hide the username as it's offensive -->
    *:Include your reason here ~~~~

If you're including multiple accounts in your report, format it as follows

    == Username ==
    {{MultiLock|username1|username2|etc}}
    :Include your reason here ~~~~

@OrangeStar: I don't know, you seem to know how to handle it and nobody answers me, so I don't have many solutions. Darkrai18 (talk) 12:49, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
There could a be a lot of reasons, not the least is that CheckUser investigations can be very tedious and Stewards here have a lot of roles, so they may just not have gotten around to CheckUser-ing these accounts (keep in mind, before even starting the investigation they'll first run through all of these accounts' contribs for proof that a CheckUser is even warranted). They'll eventually do it, until that moment just block the sockpuppets as they appear. I also recommend that you add some more details to this report, for example direct links to the diffs were these suspected sockpuppets were vandalizing. For example:
Here's QTiang559 vandalizing the Hermione Granger article, with exactly the same text as blocked user CyanKnight201: Special:Diff/97448/prev OrangeStar (talk) 13:13, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
I've done this before, as the vandalism is localized almost only on one page, just check the history to see it. Darkrai18 (talk) 13:51, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, but it's better to point to specific diffs, as it speeds up the process of determining if a CheckUser is needed. OrangeStar (talk) 14:02, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
I deeply apologise for the delay. I have globally locked these users and globally blocked their IPs. Agent Isai Talk to me! 00:13, 11 December 2022 (UTC)

    Jeffers@catflappowiki

Hi there - my recently-created wiki (11 Dec) titled catflappowiki was recently recovered, like many others. But sadly I appear to have lost permissions.

I get "Permission error. You do not have permission to read this page, for the following reason: The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups: Members, Administrators." As it was a private wiki I created, that was so new (still setting up before bringing other members on board) I should be the sole member and the Administrator :)

Other people have apparently had similar issues, and one thread on Phabricator said to 'Please make a request on the Stewards noticeboard on Meta asking that your rights be restored.' (Agent_Isai)

If I may, I also have a related question, just seeking confirmation that the recovery of catflappowiki itself was step one (as it has no pages recovered yet) and that backups would be sorted out in some way as a step two, to bring back the small number of pages that were there. I got this impression from Void (who very kindly helped me) saying "There is currently a script running that will recreate all other missing wikis at a blank slate, and we will later move to import the backups we have." ... just making sure I interpreted that correctly - or am I off the mark and this is a different thing altogether?

Summary: seeking permissions / rights to be restored on catflappowiki (https://catflappo.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page) and asking about recovery of pages.

I'm not sure why you thought bureaucrat was an example group. It is one of the default groups of MediaWiki, and it gives you access to ManageWiki. If you do decide to delete the bureaucrat group in the future, make sure you create another group with managewiki rights and assign yourself to that group first. VisualEditor Problems

Can I ask Stewards to help me adjust the VisualEditor's options?

In my Wiki (unrealneowiki) VisualEditor extension, no matter how I set the Settings, there is always only an Edit Source button in the upper function bar. The Edit button that normally enters VisualEdit Mode does not appear. This is a terrible problem. Because of this problem, it is very inconvenient to edit (currently only appended after the address bar ?veaction=edit to enter visual editor mode normally. This is a tricky process.)

Maybe there's something wrong with the extension Settings? I tried to re-add the extension and adjust the Settings in the parameter Settings, but the "visual Editor Mode" Edit Button did not appear properly.

If can, can Stewards help adjust it to display the Edit and Edit Source buttons properly?

This Wiki had applied for a dormancy exemption some time ago, but due to Wiki database problems, all the original Wiki data was lost. Later, it applied for a rebuild queue, which made the dormancy exemption automatically invalid.

Why have the Qualitipedia Wikis been deleted?

Please shut down Mixed Receptions TV Shows Wiki.

This wiki needs to be shut down, as it is a horrible mess full of vandalism and biased pages. Plus, I fear that people will move pages from the Terrible and Best TV Shows wikis to this wiki. ShawnTehLogoBoi (talk) 00:30, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

    @ShawnTehLogoBoi: A couple of things:
    1. Being a mess does not mean it should be closed. It can be cleaned up.
    2. If people move pages from those wikis, then you can put them up for deletion.
    Money12123 (contribs | CentralAuth) 02:23, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
But Money12123, the wiki's current state is far from salvageable. There is so much vandalism and biased pages, and the current owner of this wiki, PATRICKSTARSEVEN is inactive. It's best if we get rid of this dumpster fire. ShawnTehLogoBoi (talk) 03:13, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Can you provide some examples of vandalism which went unfixed for a long period of time? Bias is subjective and can't be actioned by Stewards. Agent Isai Talk to me! 06:00, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
One example of vandalism that went unfixed for a long period of time is Noggin, a page that consists of nothing but vandalism. Another example is Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, a page that has nothing to do with the scope of Mixed Reception TV Shows Wiki. ShawnTehLogoBoi (talk) 13:08, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
@ShawnTehLogoBoi: How could it be "far from salvageable"? Just go through every page and fix them or put them up for deletion. Money12123 (contribs | CentralAuth) 03:55, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Vandalism alone isn't enough to close a wiki, in my opinion. As anyone can edit wikis, anyone can revert vandalism in those wikis. imo, there's only a few select instances when vandalism would warrant closing a wiki, for example when it's a persistent vandal, when just reverting edits is a waste of time, and the admins are inactive and thus unable to block vandals, but even then you could probably get a Global Sysop to block them and could get a local election going if there are still active editors in order to replace the inactive admins. OrangeStar (talk) 14:45, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Indeed, vandalism by itself isn't a reason to close a wiki. The Content Policy however states that "Wiki administrators are also expected to know this policy and are responsible for ensuring that their wikis do not fall outside the bounds of these rules." so if administrators are inactive or unwilling to stop vandalism and the wiki becomes toxic (§5) or effectively has no leadership or no rules (§4) then it would have to be closed as a Content Policy violation. That being said, when reporting a wiki links to pages must be provided as Stewards can't be expected to go through every page hoping to find what is being reported. Also general statements like "there's vandalism" or "it's biased" aren't very helpful. Reception123 (talk) (C) 21:05, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

Creation of global page deletion requests page for Global Administrators

Hello Miraheze community, Today I want to give you a very good system proposal. As we know, users with Global Sysop authorization have the authority to modify/protect/move/clear the cache of any page. Unfortunately, when the administrators of the current wiki are not active on their own wiki, unfortunately the page cannot be deleted, copyrights, bad sentences (insult, threat, blackmail, etc.) can be on wikis other than Miraheze. When the page is not deleted, thousands of lawsuits are the subject. Inspired by the https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Global_sysops/Requests page on Wikimedia, I want Global Sysop requests from here as well, as my own personal decision, of course, your decisions are very valuable to me. I'm waiting for your comments and the result is inconclusive etc. good luck to Miraheze. Hey Türkiye message? 18:21, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

Offer: Based on the text above, a Global Sysops/Requests page will be created and users with Global Sysop authorization will have the right to delete pages other than Miraheze.

    1. Symbol support vote.svg Support As the bidder, I find the offer appropriate and I vote for Global Sysops to undertake this task. Hey Türkiye message? 18:21, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
    2. The Stewards' noticeboard (the one this thread is on) serves essentially the same purpose as the page you're proposing; it's also used for matters requiring Global Sysop intervention. Tali64³ (talk) 19:06, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

There were technical issues with creating the wiki due to a MediaWiki update yesterday (see this talk page section for details); as supported by Special:ListUsers, there is no local bureaucrat on avasinwiki; as the wiki requestor, I am requesting local bureaucrat rights. I was told to request the rights that I lost here. I wasn't granted bureaucrat rights when my requested wiki was recreated recently. I was hoping someone could help with that. Greeny (talk) 08:04, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

I have the same issues as of right now for my own wiki at cadence.miraheze.org Asibs121 (talk) 14:22, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
Symbol wait.svg On hold. Miraheze staff are working as fast as they can. Permissions are not the only thing that is broken, but they can be easily fixed by stewards once they get to this. Following a recent MediaWiki update, many features related to new wiki creation have been broken, due to issues involving caching and other things. You may notice that images on your wiki don't work, either partially or entirely, and you may have issues with using ManageWiki and other features. A member of site reliability engineering can usually manually make changes to the effected wikis, but it may take them some time while they work on fixing the cause of the problem. I recently opened a wiki, but wasn't given admin rights, so beyond simple page edits I'm unable to properly edit any of the styling. If this could be amended I'd greatly appreciate it!
