What can we do to prevent any more drama magnetism on the Reception Wikis? Is there something we need to address to prevent it from getting any worse?

Is there something that we could do to save our wikis and stop the rise of drama magnetism? I've tried pretty much a lot of things, but it got worse. Is there a solution to resolve any of this? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:52, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

DarkMatterMan4500 I would suggest you review all your articles in (Main) namespace, in particular, and ensure that every claim is cited (usually with a footnote), either by a verified primary source (of the subject, such as a Twitter account of the subject which has been verified by Twitter or confirmed by your wikis' editors) or a reliable, independent source (i.e., generally not a blog post and certainly not other wikis, as that amounts to circular referencing). Additionally, where you have biographical articles of real people, have you received consent to post their photos, or have they posted said photos from a verified account? These are just two ideas, but they're main ones that would definitely be helpful at improving overall content quality and help to ensure Content Policy requirements are met. You would also do well to discuss and implement local content policies that supplement Content Policy, requiring such things as attribution and reliable sourcing in the drafting of articles. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 16:09, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus: That sounds good. But we should also try and prevent drama from expanding, so I think I might take some drastic measures by maybe gathering some sort of consensus from other admins. For 1, I'm thinking of maybe banning blogs that makes fun of other Reception Wiki fans from the wikis, and possibly try and save it. And 2, try to get quality control to actually work, so there won't be any terrible pages that looks like it was rushed. Even if it fails, I'm definitely not going to leave Miraheze as I've had a lot of fun here. There's a lot for me to learn, and I hopefully would want to help out with any problems that may persist. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:16, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
Those sound like good ideas as well. Definitely have a more robust and rigorous content quality approval standard. I wouldn't necessarily say you'd need to ban blogs outright, as they're a reasonable outlet for users to express views, but rather just develop a local policy in terms of outlining the expected tone of posts. It's fine to express negative views, for example, but the tone of the post should have some factual basis and not be completely negative. More balanced, thoughtful opinions, for example. Dmehus (talk) 16:31, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
For the content quality controls, though, you should definitely not just consider only administrators' views, but all of your wikis' regular contributors' views, as they may have some ideas to consider. Dmehus (talk) 16:32, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
That is also helpful. That way, we can save the Reception Wikis from being shut down just because of drama outright. And banning blogs completely wouldn't feel right to me. So, I'm thinking that all the contributors can get involved in the conversation directly. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:34, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Request for Dormancy Exemption for research group wiki

Please be so kind as to apply a Dormancy Exemption to https://eucxylo.miraheze.org/wiki/ - this is a wiki that my research group started building last year, with the intention of making it public when/if there is enough good-quality information in it to be useful as a public resource. We let it get inactive in the latter part of the year, but intend to try to make regular use of it going forward (the risk of our hard work being deleted is quite demoralizing!).

Thanks and best wishes. KCMartin (talk) 12:47, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

KCMartin You lucked out, as your wiki had only been marked as deleted, so I have now  undeleted your wiki per this request. Please ensure you make at least one edit or log action to your wiki before this time tomorrow to prevent your wiki from being reclosed by the inactive wikis maintenance script, though if it were reclosed, you can reopen it at Special:ManageWiki. As to your Dormancy Policy exemption request, with the wiki undeleted, I will assess this request shortly, and follow up with you within several hours. Dmehus (talk) 14:21, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
KCMartin Regarding your request for a Dormancy Policy exemption, I've now reviewed your wiki, and have  granted your wiki an indefinite, though not permanent, exemption to Dormancy Policy as your wiki clearly has documented research notes, studied by researchers, and later intended to be read by an even larger audience. On the second criterion, with few editors on your wiki, with you providing most of the contributions, as far as I can tell, and because your wiki had to be undeleted, there's a clear need. If you no longer require an exemption to Dormancy Policy because your wiki has an active editing community, please do advise us at this noticeboard. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 14:29, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you @Dmehus - I've made an edit as requested, and am very happy to be able to report to my group that our wiki is back in the land of the living. We decided at a meeting this week that we want to try to establish a more structured and regular approach to adding content: hopefully our longer-term goal of nucleating a useful public resource will come to fruition (and we will no longer need the Dormancy Exemption). All the best - keep well. KCMartin (talk) 15:25, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Undelete of joepcolerwiki

Hello, can steward please undelete joepcolerwiki per this request? Thx,--MrJaroslavik (talk) 13:04, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Delete codedarmswiki

Hello, can steward please delete codedarmswiki per this wiki request? Thanks,--MrJaroslavik (talk) 13:35, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

MrJaroslavik, thank you for posting this request. As I'd already seen this, this has already been  done. Should you or other wiki creators come across a duplicate wiki request in future, I believe that the wiki language code can be changed in Special:ManageWiki by the new wiki bureaucrat. Dmehus (talk) 14:08, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
But cannot change subdomain...--MrJaroslavik (talk) 14:11, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
True, though it's likely the requestor originally preferred the codedarms.miraheze.org subdomain and selected codedarmsps.miraheze.org as a second choice not knowing they could've changed their language code in ManageWiki. If they did want a new subdomain, this can actually be changed by filing a Phabricator request. Any Site Reliability Engineer (Infrastructure) can handle these requests, though in practice it's usually Reception123 who is usually very quick with these requests as he usually handles them within a few hours of requesting and almost always the same day of requesting. Delete wiki please

Please can you delete my wiki: https://taerelvari.miraheze.org as I moved it to self hosting (I only had it on MH while I was waiting on a host, but now I just did it myself so the Miraheze wiki is not needed any more) TheBurningPrincess (talk) 00:32, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Unlock request for 大沼

Hello. I want the steward to unlock 大沼.

He was blocked and global locked as a LTA, but local investigations (identity verification, etc.) revealed him to be innocent. He was not LTA:KOSHIN. クールトレイン777 (talk) 14:45, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

I'm not sure what "local investigations (identity verification, etc.)" would be. Additionally, I'm personally not comfortable unlocking a user based on the results of said "local investigations" by an involved or uninvolved third party. If 大沼 wishes for their account to be unlocked, please have them present their case to Stewards, via e-mail, to stewards(at)miraheze.org for consideration. Dmehus (talk) 15:54, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
I have to report that the locals there are planning to allow 大沼's lock evasion with another account per this "local investigations."
As an ex-Steward and a community member there, I have already pointed out that 大沼 him/herself should contact Stewards and this is not something that the local community can decide.
However, since I currently have no additional permissions there, I don't have the power to stop this community if they actually decide to allow 大沼's comeback, and thus would like to report it on SN beforehand that the community might head to policy violations.
I think posting a steward's comment there can help them rethink their action, if necessary.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 00:34, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with this matter, but I will just echo what 開拓者 ("The Pioneer") said above and just state that I think 大沼 should e-mail stewards(at)miraheze.org to request an unlock, providing us with any pertinent background information. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 01:03, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Re Open Horrible Vyonders Wiki please

Could you please re open the Horrible Vyonders Wiki, because that wiki isn't for hate, it only shows the low qualities of Vyonders like Atrocious YouTubers Wiki, I hope you understand this message Bye FranciscoLol2009 (talk) 06:25, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

I am afraid that the wiki had serious Content Policy violations which had not been dealt with by the wiki administrators. The wiki will never be reopened and similar wiki requests will be declined. Thank you. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 06:42, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Many of the articles violated the Content Policy, which most are not deleted. CircleyDoesExtracter(Circley Talk | Global |Email the Cloud) 15:14, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Global lock request for 地震

Hi,

I'd like to request 地震 to be globally locked as a vandalism-only account.

Last night (JST), several Japanese wikis were severely vandalized by him/her, whose account name is probably related to the earthquake which struck Eastern-Japan yesterday.

S/he claims on his/her userpage that he has vandalized those wikis because s/he couldn't vandalize chakuwiki, and I suppose s/he is not only a vandalism-only account but also related to recent LTAs in chakuwiki.

Therefore, I'd like to lock him/her, and have an investigation on possible further cross-wiki abuse as well.

Thanks in advance,--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 01:09, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Locked. Possible investigation leaving for steward,--MrJaroslavik (talk) 14:17, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Global lock for spambot

Please lock Special:CentralAuth/Mindy95C82717 globally as a spambot. Thanks. JavaHurricane (talk) 05:55, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

JavaHurricane  Done. Thank you for your report. As a recommended best practice, if spam only accounts are flooding local wiki abuse logs, we recommend locally blocking them, at least temporarily, and then reporting spam only accounts to Stewards via this noticeboard in a batch of a half dozen or more—preferrably listing them in an unordered or ordered list. Adding another language to my wiki

Hey there. I want to add Turkish language in which I can write along with English on wiki. Can I get a separate https://www.tr.pdc.miraheze.org for my existing wiki https://www.pdc.miraheze.org Al-khataei (talk) 18:22, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Al-khataei Yep, you can, but you need to request a second wiki, then have either a Steward or interwiki administrator add an interwiki prefix for your main wiki and interlanguage prefix(es) for your other wikis on each wiki. Do you already have a second wiki? Dmehus (talk) 18:30, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Please request an Interwiki Administrator instead of a Steward in this case since the wiki is public. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 19:21, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Well, yes, ideally, all requests for local interwiki table changes should occur on community noticeboard, which interwiki administrators (sometimes stewards, though, if they're available, and don't also hold interwiki administrator permissions, will respond to such requests). I just said that for a couple reasons, in case it was a private wiki but also to keep the discussion together. Since the requested second other language has now been created, Al-khataei can now just provide us with the requested interwiki prefix (for the local interwiki tables) for the main wiki and the interlanguage prefixes they need. Any steward or interwiki administrator following this thread can feel free to action that portion of the request. Hope that clarifies. Dmehus (talk) 20:06, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Turkish: pds.miraheze.org
English: pdc.miraheze.org
Al-khataei (talk) 10:41, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
Al-khataei This has now been  completed. You will use parkducentrale as the interwiki prefix on either wiki, together with the language code of the other wiki. For example, to link to an article on your Turkish wiki from your English wiki, you'd use parkducentrale:tr. To link to an article on your English wiki from your Turkish wiki, you would use parkducentrale:en. Forward and transclude flags haven't been enabled as you hadn't requested them. I couldn't use pdc as the interwiki prefix as pdc is a valid ISO language code for interlanguage links. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 14:58, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Undelete commutativealgebrawiki

Please undelete my commutativealgebrawiki at https://commutativealgebra.miraheze.org. The wiki has been deleted per the Dormancy Policy, and now I would like to continue expanding the wiki. GTrang (talk) 19:57, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

GTrang Thank you for posting this request at stewards' noticeboard. The wiki has now been  undeleted per your request. I've also  reopened the wiki for you. In the future, you can avoid your wiki going inactive by making at least one log action or edit every 45 days. Should your wiki ever be closed, you can reopen it yourself in Special:ManageWiki. Additionally, if your wiki has at least 50-60 content pages and you have a need for an exemption to Dormancy Policy, you can submit that here in a separate request, but there's lots of time for that. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 03:00, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Give me bureaucrat status for Animated Muscle Men

It's Grust and I got rid of the password on the old account and since I didn't have e-mail for it I can't get my old account back. Since I wish to at least be active on the Animated Muscle Men Wiki I request to be given bureaucrat status for the Animated Muscle Men wiki. Be sure to check both mine and Grust's IP address if possible to confirm we are one and the same. Str8Muscle (talk) 17:54, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Str8Muscle First, please link to the exact wiki. Second, are there other bureaucrats on the wiki who can grant you the bureaucrat flag? Finally, when were you last active as "Grust"? Since you haven't identified, well, really any information here, your best bet would be to hold a local election on the wiki in question, following the tips here. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 18:06, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Str8Muscle Assuming you mean animatedmusclemenwiki, looking at Special:Log/Grust (usurped), I see this user has not been active in more than three months, as of today actually. So, even if this could be done in theory, it would not yield any results. Besides that, though, barring you providing some on-wiki confirmation from Grust (usurped) that User:Str8Muscle is that user's legitimate alternate account, this  could not be done as we have no verifiable proof that you are who you say you are. So, please follow the guidelines for hosting a local election, and come back here in at least five to seven calendar days when your local election has concluded. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 18:18, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Sorry I don't understand any of that. I'll go to plan B and hope it get inactive and adopt. Str8Muscle (talk) 22:23, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Str8Muscle What don't you understand about the above? In any case, a local election would be quicker. An adoption request would require the wiki to first be completely inactive (i.e., you and others would not be able to edit the wiki), then become closed. This process would take at least sixty (60) days, from tomorrow. Once it's eligible for adoption, you're looking at a minimum of two to four weeks for conclusion of an adoption request, so ninety (90) days, again, from tomorrow, at the earliest and subject to no one editing the wiki. A local election request could be concluded inside of a single week. For an example of what a local election page looks like, see this page on dariawikiwiki. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 23:53, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Forget it. I give up. Str8Muscle (talk) 03:06, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Alright, fair enough. It's a fairly simple process, but it is what it is. We can't just transfer rights from one account to another without being able to confirm the two users are related. It's for the protection of all users, as I'm sure you can appreciate. At any rate, as that wiki has no active administrators and bureaucrats on that wiki, Stewards and Global Sysops can be called upon via this noticeboard to effect certain actions requiring administrator permissions. Dmehus (talk) 03:13, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Well whatever happens happens Str8Muscle (talk) 03:26, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Removal of wiki creators who are inactive

Hello. Per the policy, I am requesting that the following wiki creators are removed by a steward for being inactive for more than 3 months: Bonnedav, Cmg, Guy vandegrift. Thank you. DeeM28 (talk) 12:13, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

DeeM28 This is  not done because I actually discussed this with John and policy has always been three months of global activity on all platforms (note this includes Miraheze's official channels on Discord and IRC, as well as Phabricator and GitHub). While this may not make apparent sense, since wikis are approved and created on Meta Wiki, functionally, wiki creators are a global role despite being a Meta only user group. And, at the end of the day, policy does not limit how many wiki creators there can be at any given time. A better strategy would be to engage with less active wiki creators and see if they wish to continue serving as wiki creators, which I will try to do over the next month or two. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 16:01, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus: I did not know that was how the policy was understood. In my opinion, I do not think it is very useful, as if wiki creators are not active on Meta and creating wikis, there is not much use for them to preserve the role other than to have another hat for their account. Secondly, if we are to apply this global standard, have we checked if they are active globally? I also do not really see why Phabricator and GitHub which are technical-oriented spaces have anything to do with being a wiki creator. Lastly, I would be happy to engage with the wiki creators and ask them via their talkpages if they are still interested in preserving the role and creating wikis, as you must be busy as a steward if it is going to take 1-2 months. DeeM28 (talk) 16:25, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
DeeM28 Thanks for your reply. I should be able to get to it in the next week or two actually, but gave myself 1-2 months depending on if other things come up. There's a couple things I need to get to first, one of which in a non-Steward capacity and the other of which in a non-official capacity but which is related to coaching of a long-time community member potentially keen on volunteering in an official Counter Vandalism Team capacity. Dmehus (talk) 19:01, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Global lock request for recent spam-only accounts from the this abuse log on the pigalorewiki.

I am writing this report to request a global lock of these recent spam-only accounts and even the ones from this abuse log right here. Could maybe one of the Stewards go over there and investigate it? And don't hesitate to notify Technopeasant, an active admin of that said wiki, who was recently last seen exactly 3 days ago uploading files. Thanks for listening. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 13:51, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Surprised how nobody responded here after nearly 3 days, but okay then, I guess? :/ DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:06, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Well, if they're just spamming the abuse logs, it's doing its job, so it's not as much of a priority to lock them, to be honest. The main thing is to investigate the spam only accounts for problematic IPs/servers and open proxies/web hosts that can be globally soft rangeblocked, thereby preventing account creation. I'll try and take a look at it in a few days unless Void, NDKilla, or John want to take a look before then. Dmehus (talk) 20:10, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Okay. Fair enough. :) DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:18, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Can anyone change their usernames?

I wonder if you are allowed to change your usernames? TheGreatGazebo (talk) 15:03, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

TheGreatGazebo To answer your question, yes. It is quite possible to change your name. If you were asking if you wanted to change your username, feel free to request a Steward to have your name changed on wherever is appropriate. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:11, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
TheGreatGazebo Yes, you can request a new global username yourself. Please keep in mind, though, that these are not to be requested every few months. You should settle on a new username for the very long-term (i.e., at least 12-24 months) and, ideally, permanently. Changing usernames too frequently poses both community- and technical-oriented challenges. If you require a different account name for certain purposes or wikis, you can create one or more alternate account(s), and as long as you don't use them on wikis where local restrictions apply or for other nefarious purposes, that is also one option, but your main account should use the same username for the long-term. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 15:14, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

First, his name "馬脚者" into English, it looks like this: "A man who showed his true colors." This name comes from the name "開拓者", and this name is harassing and spoofing 開拓者. Second, if you translate the sentence "無能管理人が対応を誤った結果" into English, it looks like this: "The result of an incompetent manager making a mistake." シュヴァルツ Swearing is nothing. Miraheze is NOT a religious community. I was asking why you could determine 馬脚者 was a he, and not answering it made me suspect further that you are playing both roles by yourself. Additionally, forcing someone not to make a statement here is going too far beyond acceptable manner. Чернить (talk) 13:05, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
I apologize for my words and actions. At that time I was upset and couldn't get the meaning of the question right.
Calling 馬脚者 "he" is a habit. Many of the users around me are men, so I called 馬脚者 "he" because of my habit. Now that I think about it, I should have safely called it "s/he".--SchwarzTalk / ウソペディア 15:13, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

There is a sockpuppeteer that creates spam-only accounts cross-wiki, please add the bottom code to the global title blacklist (I'm not asking this to stewards because local admins can edit the global blacklist too):

# Spam-only accounts
.*Plaquenil.* <newaccountonly>
 MarioMario456 (talk) 12:50, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Good idea, thank you, added.--MrJaroslavik (talk) 13:04, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
A note for @MarioMario456:: Please make these kind of requests on SN as only Stewards and Global Sysops are supposed to edit the blacklist in the future. In this case, it was right of MrJaroslavik to edit the blacklist as he is a Global Sysop. Thank you. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 13:10, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Procedural note: This is just a procedural note to note that this request has been procedural moved from Meta:Administrators' noticeboard to Stewards' noticeboard as Stewards or, failing them, Global Sysops are the correct parties to modify either the global title blacklist or global spam blacklist. Historically, it's been stewards, but practices seem to normalized to include expansion to Global Sysops. Dmehus (talk) 14:16, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

A Request for Dormancy Exemption for trwc

Wiki link

Reason: Wiki is mainly used as a reference and usually mostly edited every summer when the contributors meet together. During the other times of year it is mainly inactive due to other commitments. We are planning to migrate from a shared text file to a wiki this summer.

Thanks. Blackdiamand (talk) 21:00, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Blackdiamand Looking through Special:AllPages on your wiki, I can see that your wiki is a bit content light in terms of number of pages; however, in terms of page size, there's sufficient content, I think, that would be potentially devastating to your group if lost. In terms of activity, this wiki is infrequently edited, so there's a clear need. Thus, I'm going to  grant you this exemption to Dormancy Policy on an indefinite basis as informational resource for a virtual group that meets during mostly one season of the year. Please note this exemption granted indefinitely, not permanently, and is subject to review in the future. Additionally, should your wiki no longer need the exemption, please advise Stewards by way of this noticeboard. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 21:09, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Any chance I can rescue greenleft.miraheze.org from deletion?

Is there any chance I can recover my wiki greenleft.miraheze.org? GreenLeft (talk) 01:23, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

GreenLeft Thank you for question, which I've procedurally moved from Meta:Administrators' noticeboard to this noticeboard, where it is now in scope. It looks that greenleftwiki has been deleted in accordance with Dormancy Policy. I've done a Google search, and it looks it like the greenleftwiki was dropped in this batch in May 2018. Fortunately, since your wiki was public, both WikiTeam and Miraheze system administrators likely have uploaded XML dumps of your wiki here. I've found what appears to be the most recent version of your wiki here, though there is also this version. There may possibly be a newer version, but note that until recently, there was a long period time where the wiki database names were not included in the uploaded tarballs' metadata. Nevertheless, you can request a wiki, defining a clear purpose, scope, and topic(s) for your wiki, and then file a Phabricator task to request a system administrator import this XML dump. Note that the image files themselves will not be included in this dump, though. Dmehus (talk) 02:11, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
GreenLeft Please note I have  recreated this wiki for you, based on your previously approved wiki request. For some reason, your greenleftwiki database wasn't dropped from our database servers, so Paladox has backed it up to his home directory on the db12 server, and I've created Phabricator ticket #6895 for Reception123 to import or restore your wiki using one of several options. Please subscribe to that Phabricator ticket. Thank you. Dmehus (talk) 02:59, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Interwiki administrator for JJPMaster @ LifeWiki

I don't know if I have to run a local election before requesting this right given that I'm the only active member of the wiki, but I'd like to request interwiki-admin. JJPMaster (talk) 14:38, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

JJPMaster Typically, it just involves you creating a local election page on your lifewiki, very much like this one on celestewiki. After approximately five to seven days, you would just return to this thread and link to your concluded election. Note that an election by acclamation is possible, unless your local wiki's permissions elections policies disallow elections by acclamation, of course. Hope that helps. Deleting my former wikis

Hello,

I would like to delete my former wikis (won.miraheze.org and siutalinn.miraheze.org). Both of the projects have been abandoned and the wikis are now redundant. C.antczak (talk) 18:34, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

C.antczak Though we normally prefer to have Dormancy Policy take care of the wiki deletions, since these were private wikis for which you were either the sole contributor or the primary and most recently active contributor, I've  deleted these per your request. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 18:55, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Troll accounts that need locking.

SSBUfan1074 and Spy tf2 gameing. --DeciduousWater534 (talk) 01:26, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

DeciduousWater534 SSBUfan1074 is  locked now; Spy tf2 gameing has only made one edit globally, which, while blatant vandalism, is a bit weak for a lock, so  not done for now. Please keep us updated. Dmehus (talk) 01:31, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
DeciduousWater534 Looks like Spy tf2 gameing continued the vandalism, so they are now  locked as well. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 01:38, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

global locks for automated spam bots

@Dmehus: The accounts are locked but I don't see any recent changes entries, any idea why that is? Naleksuh (talk) 02:42, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Naleksuh Oh, I used Special:MultiLock for the nice MultiLock list you provided and marked them as bot entries, which we usually try to do for spam only account locks when there's more than five accounts to lock. Dmehus (talk) 03:05, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Please can you rename User:Willy on Wheels to User:Willy on Wheels old 2017 - can't login to that account --Willy on Wheels on wheels! (talk) 13:12, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Willy on Wheels on wheels! Since we're not able to confirm that you own both accounts, can you please post a note at User talk:Willy on Wheels asking if the user has any objections to their username being usurped? After a period of at least 2-4 weeks, then we could look at renaming both accounts as you describe. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 13:21, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Exception to the Dormancy Policy in Idiotpaedia

Idiotpaedia is a wiki that only stores information about the different Nocyclopedias by language, and therefore it is not necessary to be constantly edited. Anthony8IA (talk) 21:49, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Anthony8IA Though your wiki only contains a Main Page, which normally would normally fall short of the topical minimum suggested content guidelines, seeing that this wiki is essentially a portal/hub that links to your various Idiotpaedia Network of wikis in other languages, with interwiki links linking to the various language spokes of the Idiotpaedia Network, you've articulated both a clear use case and need for an exemption to Dormancy Policy. So, I'm going to  grant the exemption on that basis, indefinitely. Should you no longer require an exemption, please do notify us via this noticeboard. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 22:07, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

A request for Dormancy Exception for Santrovelo

Hello, I was wondering if it would be possible to request a dormancy exception for the Santrovelo Wiki. The wiki belongs to a non-profit community bike repair workshop and communicates the operating procedures for the shop to the volunteers that run it. The site is seldom updated as no new information is needed to run the shop but the contents are considered too useful to lose. The site was unvisited during the pandemic but the shop will open again soon. Thanks in advance for your help! Rudi51 (talk) 21:52, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Rudi51 Per my comments in #miraheze connect on IRC (and via Discord thanks to the Discord/IRC relay), I'm placing this request on on hold until the Phabricator import request is done by system administrators. At that point, I'll be able to assess your wiki for the purposes of granting an exemption to Dormancy Policy. Not to worry, though, there's no danger of your wiki even going inactive for at least 45 days from now, and the task should be completed within the next day or two (at the most). Dmehus (talk) 21:59, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! Rudi51 (talk) 23:17, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Rudi51 Now that the XML import request on Phabricator has been completed by system administrator Reception123, I have now been able to properly assess your request for an exemption to Dormancy Policy. In terms of need, it looks like this was originally created in this wiki request from 2016 by Treebrain (note the "null" database name, which, presumably, is either because (a) the record was imported into RequestWiki or (b) we used to set custom domains in CreateWiki). Looking at this wiki request from 2018, it looks like the wiki was recreated, possibly following a deletion per Dormancy Policy. Given that the wiki has likely been deleted and dropped at least twice and because you said that the non-profit Montreal, Quebec-based bicycle shop is only open seasonally and was closed due to COVID-19-related restrictions, there definitely is a demonstrated need for an exemption. Content wise, while there appears to be only approximately twenty (20) content pages, which might be a bit on the lighter side, looking at most of the content pages, in terms of page size, it's clear that there are a lot of documented store operating procedures and other resources that are used by the store's volunteers and would be potentially devastating if lost. So, accordingly, this exemption is  granted, indefinitely, as an organization's volunteer store training resource that is infrequently edited. As an aside, as Reception123 was able to specify --username-prefix="santrovelo" when he ran the maintenance script to import the XML file using the interwiki prefix I added locally, the edits were locally assigned to the previous users, who were also re-added to the wiki locally, and, as a result, we were able to determine who originally created the wiki. Dmehus (talk) 16:23, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus Wonderful, thanks to you all for your help! Rudi51 (talk) 16:29, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Close wiki

Close this wiki: https://antsauutiset.miraheze.org/wiki/Etusivu. Anton (also known as Maantietaja, sockpuppet known person on wmf wikis) copied all news from Wikinews in Finnish. 85.23.95.148 16:39, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

85.23.95.148, thank you for your report. First of all, would you mind logging in to your Miraheze account? If you do not have a Miraheze account, please consider creating an account and then logging in. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can e-mail more details on your report to stewards(at)miraheze.org. Secondly, regarding your report, we would not close a wiki without attempting to work with the local wiki to provide for the necessary attribution to Finnish Wikinews. This was likely a good-faith misunderstanding on Anton's part, so I will instead reach out to them and ask them to add an edit summary on each of the imported pages linking to the source pages on Finnish Wikinews. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 21:12, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
85.23.95.148 I've  left a note for Anton to make the necessary corrections to what appears to be a good-faith, honest mistake on their part, and will follow up in a couple of weeks to ensure the edit summaries have been added to the necessary pages. Dmehus (talk) 21:34, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

GinaGiovanniello2001.....

Hey, remember when I mentioned something about GinaGiovanniello2001 creating a new account to start over? Well, the thing is..... GinaGiovanniello2001 has been creating WAY too many accounts that I've had to block over and over again. Here's a list of accounts she owns:

Here are some examples of her messing up a specific sandbox using these sockpuppets that I may not have listed in this report, but should not be exempted from being investigated: Diff #1, Diff #2 Diff #3 Diff #4. Also, please note that she did this on Mr. Dready's sandbox without his permission to do so.

And when you get a chance, have a look at her previous blocks, and you may or may not get the full picture right away. I've had just about enough of her persistently creating sockpuppet after another even after she was blocked. DeciduousWater534 has more knowledge about her than I do, as she has done something quite similar on other wikis aside from the terribletvshowswiki and the besttvshowswiki as well.

I would list the rest of them, but all they do is make nearly exactly the same amount of edits as GinaGiovanniello2001. Instead of me just simply going over what she did wrong, (with the exception of messing up a specific page, and stealing from other users), I'm expressing my concern that she's been creating way too many accounts for me to even count. I've lost count of how many she made (considering she has made a rip-off of one of our wikis on FANDOM, although, it's not exactly directly connected to Miraheze in anyway, but it's just an example.) Furthermore, if you were to ask either me or DeciduousWater534 on the matter, you may reach out to either one of us, and we should be able to answer it. I'd like to request a global lock on not only her original account, but also the remaining sockpuppets she has. Thanks for listening to what I had to say here. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 01:45, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

Welp, looks like I found 1 more sockpuppet to add.
DarkMatterMan4500 Thank you for your report. While it's indeed a bit odd that the user would edit the sandbox of a locally blocked user, they may have done a search for that particular television series, character, or other plot element, and proceeded to edit it regardless of the namespace in which it is in. As to the other diffs, I'm not really seeing how they would be narrowly and globally construed as blatant vandalism. They largely look like constructive editing. So, really, I see two things here. Firstly, I see a lack of discussion of edits. Secondly, I see a lack of edit summaries. So I don't really see anything that warrants locking these accounts as vandalism only accounts when they've all been locally blocked for various reasons. It's up to you and your wikis whether you leave their user talk open, but you might consider advising them of user accounts policy, and how to correctly appeal their blocks. In terms of user accounts policy, there are several similar usernames, so they could well be related to two or three users, but I'm not seeing how they're all potentially related to the user referenced in the section header? Dmehus (talk) 18:34, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
Most of the usernames include a year in the 2000s, are girly sounding in general, and include two different words that are styled LikeThis. If you look at the contributions of the accounts on Best TV Shows Wiki, you will see that the edits across the accounts mostly focus on shows for girls or little kids, with a bunch of these pages made by GinaGiovanniello2001. I don't mean to sound desperate, but she'll just keep coming back until her accounts are locked and her IP address is globally blocked. There's no need for us to just keep on blocking them and continue having something unnecessary to the admins' plate on the wikis, how hard/time consuming can it be just to do a CheckUser? --DeciduousWater534 (talk) 00:30, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
@DeciduousWater534: I've blocked more of them. I wish it was possible for Void to perform a CU to prevent abuse on our wikis from re-occurring. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 17:55, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
As I said above, it's possible that there has been some abuse user accounts policy; however, I'm not convinced that any abuse is limited to only one user, based on the evidence you've presented. Additionally, from the diffs I have examined, I haven't really seen what would constitute blatant vandalism for the purposes of locking any of the accounts as vandalism only accounts. I'll try and take a closer look through all of the accounts in the next day or two, unless John, Void, or NDKilla want to take a closer look before then. Dmehus (talk) 18:01, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus Yes, especially since all 3 of them are really good at what they do as Stewards. I don't know if their user pages are a dead giveaway or not. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 18:05, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
I see that now. I'll review that with another Steward. There does seem to be clear enough evidence of abuse of user accounts policy, even if the edits by the crop of accounts wouldn't be what I would constitute blatant vandalism. Dmehus (talk) 18:15, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Alright, sounds good to me. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 18:23, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
DarkMatterMan4500 and DeciduousWater534, so I've discussed this with John and, yes, while there does seem to be very apparent abuse of user accounts policy in that the user is apparently creating multiple accounts to continue their undiscussed editing on local wikis where blocked, it's not clear to me how locking the user accounts would necessarily help prevent account creation and encourage the user to appeal their original block (i.e., at besttvshowswiki as just one example) since the user tends just to edit on the same wikis—that is to say, they don't continue to use any of the apparent alternate accounts on wikis where they've never contributed. You've effectively done the work of global functionaries by locally blocking the user's apparent alternate accounts on wikis where they frequently contributed. Personally, from my perspective, I would instead like to see you post separate talk page messages on the user talk pages of the user's apparent master account, GinaGiovanniello2001, linking to a couple diffs on each wiki where the user is blocked that clearly show which local wiki rule(s) the user is violating on each wiki. You can advise the user of user accounts policy and not to create any additional user accounts, and to instead appeal their original local blocks via their respective local wiki user talk pages. Leave their apparent master account's user talk pages open, so they can put forth a proper appeal of their original local blocks. If the user continues to create additional accounts after these notices have been put in place, then you can either (a) open a new thread on stewards' noticeboard, referencing this thread, if it's been archived or (b) add to this thread, if it's not been archived. Dmehus (talk) 20:28, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus I will advise them on either wiki they have contributed the most on, and I am highly doubtful they will ever respond, especially since I tried to warn them to stop evading blocks in their block summaries, so I could try to reach out to them. (Again, I doubt they are going to respond to this.) DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:33, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
DarkMatterMan4500 That sounds like a good approach. It doesn't have to be every wiki GinaGiovanniello2001 has ever contributed to, just several of them, but do be sure to make it clear which rules on each of the wikis, where you advise them, have been broken, and to stop create additional alternate accounts. With that in place, then you can return here, linking to the clear warnings, if further likely sockpuppet accounts are created from this day forward Dmehus (talk) 20:36, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
The only thing this, what if it still continued? Would action still be taken? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:38, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
DarkMatterMan4500 As I said in #miraheze-cvt connect,  yes, as then we have a clearer case of crosswiki disruption together with the likely user accounts policy violations following your clear warnings that indicate, clearly, which local wiki rules the user is repeatedly breaking. Dmehus (talk) 20:41, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus: Welp, she didn't listen to my warning and created another alternate account after I specifically gave Gina her final warning and it seems clear she is only there to cause disruption by creating alternate accounts to evade her blocks. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 12:55, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
It's good that you did a CU, but I wonder why nothing really happened yet as of now? :/ DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:01, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
DarkMatterMan4500 Thank you for your follow up. Please note that I have now  handled this technically in such a way as to guide the user via either their apparent main account or their latest account to appeal their local block(s) either via their apparent primary account's Best TV Shows wiki user talk page, if you and DeciduousWater534 have still left it open, or via one of your user talk pages on Meta. It's clear to me there's abuse of user accounts policy; however, as the user seems to just not understand that Miraheze wikis require collaboration, I believe that the measure(s) put in place will help guide them to doing so, to discussing with fellow community members, asking pertinent questions where they are unsure, and to appealing their blocks, as they've been asked to do. As they are locally blocked on all the same local wikis and they don't appear to continue disruption onto new wikis, technically speaking, there was little to no need to lock the alternate accounts. Plus, as I'm uncertain if the user even still remembers their apparent main account, I want to give them the opportunity to pick an existing account around which to appeal their blocks and to editing and discussing in compliance with local wiki rules and our global policies. You can see more in my notes here and here. Dmehus (talk) 16:22, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus: Alright, but again, I have my doubts on this situation, so we will wait and see. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:24, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
DarkMatterMan4500 In any case, they shouldn't be able to create any new accounts, and they're locally blocked on all wikis of their existing accounts, so they should not be able to edit on any existing wikis where blocked. If you have evidence they appear to have created new accounts in some way, you can follow up with the accounts created after Kittyjewelpet76 was created earlier today, linking to further diffs for each one. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 16:27, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Got it. I'll keep an eye on additional account creations by her. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 17:13, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Dmehus, she still didn't listen to you and completely ignored you. At this point, I don't think she's going to listen to you. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:10, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Oh, almost forgot about this one. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:20, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. For the reasons I've articulated above—that is to say that the user does not appear to edit on more than a handful of wikis, for which the user's alternate accounts are all locally blocked, because the edits themselves are made in good-faith but the user seems not to want to engage with the local wiki administrators and/or community members, and because I'm not even sure which account the user would wish to return to—I've simply  expanded the technical measures put in place a few days ago. The user should not be able to create any further accounts, at least while logged out. If you notice the user create any accounts while logged in to one of their existing accounts, then we can assume the user has identified an account under which they wish to continue editing and to properly appealing their local wiki blocks. For now, though, we should be able to consider the matter  resolved. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 22:45, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Well, well, well. Look at what I have discovered on the teessidehackspacewiki.

I'm surprised nobody has even taken notice of these spam-only page creations dating back to August 16th, 2020. I took a look at one of the abuse filters from one of the spambots from that wiki, and when I took a look at the logs, I made a surprising find of multiple spam-only page creations like these. Would you mind having a look at the pages that appear to be created for spam/massive advertising purposes, (if there's any)? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:42, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your report, DarkMatterMan4500. Page creations appear to be too old to use Special:Nuke, so I'll format a bulk page deletion list. Dmehus (talk) 15:51, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus: Sounds  good to me. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:53, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
Also, will there be locks against those spam-only accounts that created those pages, or no? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:11, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

While I understand that you feel like the block made by DarkMatterMan4500 on Crappy Games Wiki is not fair, it would not be appropriate at all for us to "override" local blocks. While there are some Miraheze global policies, each wiki has autonomy and gets to create their own local policies and as such to decide whether they want to block a user. I would really suggest that you contact DarkMatterMan4500 and make your case to him instead. As a side note, please also note that you do not need to include your signature inside the thread title itself, only at the end of your post. Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:39, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

HopkinsTheMovie Though we usually prefer to have wikis closed and deleted in accordance with Dormancy Policy, as this was your personal, private wiki and you've specifically requested deletion, this has now been  done. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 23:10, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Can you please lock NoobamationsGD's account?

He left loads of spam & gibberish comments on Best TV Shows Wiki. - Trashanimal (talk) 02:14, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Trashanimal While I do agree this user has left many bizarre gibberish and disruptive comments, I don't personally feel this necessitates a global lock at this time. At present, the user's account is too new to assess whether it was a throwaway, vandalism only account or not. Please keep an eye on it, and I'd also suggest warning the user on their user talk page on Best Television Shows Wiki. If they're still disruptive, local administrators can locally block, and further action globally can be examined after that point. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 02:37, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

about Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki

That wiki was NOT meant to harass users, it was meant for criticizing toxic fanbases and hatebases (internet groups that can't behave well, internet trolls, people who harass other people over an opinion, etc), it should be reopened now, because that wiki has a lot of important information about those toxic groups of people and those fandoms and hatedoms deserve to be criticized because many of those communities annoy a lot of people on the internet, but some kind of butthurt user misunderstood the purpose of the wiki and reported it, you stewards should change the Terms of Service of Miraheze and/or restore that wiki since that wiki was meant for criticizing toxic groups of people, not for insulting people, because of things like this now users from Miraheze don't know how to defend themselves, this is just disappointing. Everyone should be free of criticizing bad things, freedom is important. SuperSoul (talk) 01:54, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, that's not going to happen anytime soon. Plus, it's getting closer to that time of getting deleted anyways. And aside from that, it breached multiple Code of Conduct and Content policies after being warned to administer misappropriations. The closure had absolutely nothing to do with freedom of speech, and I have seen people make similar reports multiple times, but was ultimately declined. Besides that, if they were to reopen it now, then there would be a problem. Hope you understand this. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 10:33, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
You seem to be very narcissistic, no? Because of people like you users get more useless with the time. The administrators of Miraheze need to know the truth of that wiki, free speech is a very important thing, this is not FANDOM. SuperSoul (talk) 11:45, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
What DarkMatterMan4500 has said above is correct. The wiki will not be reopened. Stewards warned the wiki administrators long before closing the wiki but they did not respond. The wiki will never come back. Please also remember to follow the Code of Conduct at all times. Thank you. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 11:51, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
They misunderstood the actual purpose of that wiki!!!!!! understand that!!!!! you do not know what is this thing!!!! you guys were brainwashed by the those fools who do not know the truth! SuperSoul (talk) 11:54, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
Criticizing is not the same thing like harassment nor insulting, their purpose was criticizing bad users, not harassing them. SuperSoul (talk) 12:04, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
@SuperSoul: Again, I've heard users say that multiple times, and it doesn't really prove anything. It definitely doesn't help your case that multiple users have tried and failed to revive those problematic wikis. Besides that, there was a discussion banning those User Reception wikis, and it passed. Please try to understand that it's not going to be revived, no matter what happens. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 12:34, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
Man, not just because they are the admins it means that you should praise everything that they do, they have some flaws, but no one is perfect, everyone commited mistakes, but some people commit really BIG mistakes. SuperSoul (talk) 01:59, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I'm not sure why this has come up yet again after the decision has been explained multiple times. I've lost track of how many times I've made this point but the truth is there is a difference between criticising people and making unsubstantiated (and often very serious) claims that are not backed up by any evidence. One can't simply make up claims about another person without proving that these statements are actually true, or else that is called libel or defamation. The wiki in question was closed for that precise reasons: the pages fell short of this standard. I must invite you to re-read the Content Policy. Besides that, making generalized statements saying it was "just criticism" is definitely not going to convince anyone. The wiki as it was in its old form is not coming back. The administrators were given a chance to comply with our global policies, which they did not take. Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:32, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

I also must insist that this conversation takes place in a civil manner, and there is absolutely no need to throw insults at people: either calling them narcissistic or making silly accusations that we were "brainwashed". Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:35, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
SuperSoul I don't have anything else to add to what others above have said, but I just have one question for you. Since your account was created just yesterday, how would you know what content is on that wiki? That wiki is currently a private, closed, and locked wiki; therefore, only users with the local member or sysop user group(s) on that wiki are able to view more than its public main page. Did you previously go by a different account name and you've now adopted a new persona? That's fine, though I would just highlight user accounts policy, a global policy, which I'd encourage you to review as a proactive matter of good practice. Dmehus (talk) 15:58, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
most information on that wiki was actually true, such as the toxic JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fans that act superior towards other anime fandoms, even some articles had some YouTube videos on it that prove that the information is true, just look at it on the internet, if you are accusing that wiki of defamation, make your research first.
what NDKilla did to that wiki is just unforgivable. SuperSoul (talk) 20:45, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
SuperSoul I can assure you that the actions taken by NDKilla were not taken without discussion with other Stewards and even Global Sysops and other community members at the time. While it's been said many times why the wiki was closed, I will just briefly reiterate that it was related to systemic, unresolved Content Policy concerns (specifically provisions, "Miraheze does not host wikis with the sole purpose to spread unsubstantiated insult, hate or rumours against a person or group of people," and "A wiki must not create problems which make it difficult for other wikis.") as well as Code of Conduct concerns among the wiki's users, administrators, and bureaucrats, which went unheeded and unremediated when asked by multiple functionaries. As was made clear by your intimate knowledge as to the content of this private wiki, you're most welcome to use your alternate user account to use Special:Export or Special:DataDump on that wiki and export an XML dump of your wiki to self-host this wiki, assuming all the liability that goes along with that, if you wish. Dmehus (talk) 21:34, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
No one is perfect in this world, everyone commited a mistake, but you guys commited a very big mistake, Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki was meant for critizing toxic fandoms and hatedoms, not to spread hate nor rumours against a person nor groups of people, how many times I have to explain it?, in fact that wiki has information that is true, like a group of Steven Universe trying to make an artist commit suicide, Some people trying to act superior to other anime fandoms by worshipping highly acclaimed anime shows, a Rick & Morty fan killing a McDonalds employee because a sauce was removed, a Halo fan killing his father (I knew that before visiting that wiki), some groups exposing personal data of some people, as well some people celebrating and mocking the deaths of people that they hate (such as Michael Jackson, Chester Bernington, XXXTENTACION, Stan Lee, Cameron Boyce, etc. to name a few), aren't those things horrible? those fandoms/hatedoms deserve to be critcized, there was no need to close TF&HW, that's the reason why it should be reopened.
I also realize that that site had some flaws, such as some articles being mediocre and part of the userbase consisting of incompetent douchebags, but the community was mostly decent. SuperSoul (talk) 04:12, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
As I said, you're welcome to use your original account and use Special:Export or Special:DataDump on this wiki and export an XML dump of this wiki if you wish to self-host, but it won't be reopened on Miraheze for the reason(s) I and others above (and previously) have articulated already. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 06:02, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
I have to say it, when I was an user on that wiki (with another account) I made and edited pages with data based on my own research and my own experiences with those fandoms/hatedoms, the same can be said for other users on that wiki, I also collaborated with some sandboxes of other users, so do not accuse us of defamation.
I can't access to that wiki via an old account, sorry. SuperSoul (talk) 01:56, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
SuperSoul How come you can't access that wiki via the prior account? Can you tell me the error message you are receiving, so that I can try and assist you with being able to access that locked, closed, and private wiki? Dmehus (talk) 02:09, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Wiki deletion request

Hi, Since I decided to abandon the project is it possible to delete the related wiki (kaia.miraheze.org)? Thanks in advance. Etfs95c (talk) 15:46, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Etfs95c Though we normally prefer for wikis to be deleted in accordance with Dormancy Policy, as I can see your wiki only four content pages together with the default Main Page and because you were the only recently active contributor to the wiki and the only substantial contributor to the wiki, the wiki has now been marked as  deleted and will be dropped from the servers the next time Site Reliability Engineering runs the applicable maintenance script. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 15:53, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Global lock request for Buytruefollowers and other spam-bots on the ipolywiki and/or other inactive wikis..

It is an apparent spam-bot as seen here, and there might be other spam-bots on there, and/or other inactive wikis like the ones on the Mad Gender Science Wiki. (Yes, that wiki again also.) I hope my report isn't much of a bother to you Stewards and/or Global Sysops if you are reading this message from me to you. Please have a look into this when you have time. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 10:29, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Hopefully, someone will answer. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:03, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Two spambots locked. There's definitely some dictionary-based mass account creations occurring on that wiki; however, as edit privileges are disabled to non-privileged users, they're mostly harmless, notwithstanding the ability for them to still edit their social profiles, which is another knock against that extension, to be honest. I had a quick look and didn't see too many spam only accounts that actually edited their user profiles. Nevertheless, there is some further investigating that could be done here to effect additional preventative measures, so I'll try and come back to this later. However, for now, I'm going to consider this request  completed, so that the bot can archive it in accordance with the specifications. Thank you for your report. I would wish to be a Local Interwiki Administrator on the Memes Wiki.

I wish to have Interwiki Administrator perms on my wiki, but as it is new, there is nobody to vote for me. WikiJS 20:35, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

WikiJS Please create a local election page similar to this local election page, and return to this noticeboard when your election has concluded. Thank you. Dmehus (talk) 20:41, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
How long would the election last for? WikiJS 20:50, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
Typically between 5-7 calendar days. Dmehus (talk) 20:52, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
WikiJS Bear in mind, though, looking at your global contributions, you don't appear to yet meet either the local or global editing contribution requirement for local interwiki-admin. So, you'd need to either (a) have at least 500 edits on the wiki where requested or (b) 1,000 edits globally. In the interim, you can always ask at community noticeboard for an interwiki administrator or steward to add any interwiki prefixes you require immediately. Dmehus (talk) 20:57, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh alright. Thanks for pointing that out. WikiJS 20:58, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
No problem. :) Dmehus (talk) 20:59, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
Could you give me a wikitext template for an election? If not that's fine. WikiJS 20:57, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
There's no local election template. It doesn't have to be fancy, but see my comment above. Dmehus (talk) 20:58, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
To start an election copy the local election page from here, you have to add a few templates like Support and Oppose and remove the countdown to simplify the election page. Include the election page into the main page, greetings Lily (Lilypond Wiki · talk to me · little garden · my wiki of everything) 14:35, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Wiki family centralized file sharing and uploads

I would like to have pornwiki.miraheze.org set up to use pornwikifiles.miraheze.org as a media repository, for centralized file sharing and uploads. I would like 'Upload file' link of pornwiki.miraheze.org to redirect to 'Upload file' of pornwikifiles.miraheze.org. Thanks. Gil Borlin (talk) 20:14, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Gil Borlin  Done. Please let me us know if you should need anything further, such as interwiki prefixes added to each of your two wikis' local interwiki tables. Also, it should be noted that any files uploaded to pornwikiwiki prior to this change remain within that wiki's database. Upon checking, it appears that is only your wiki's favicon and logo. All new files uploaded will be uploaded to pornwikifileswiki, though. Dmehus (talk) 21:11, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus: Thank you very much, that's about it for now. The only remaining thing is a redirect issue from pornwiki.org to en.pornwiki.org which I commented about on T6940. Gil Borlin (talk) 19:02, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Ah, okay, great. Was pornwiki.org always redirecting, or was it just www.pornwiki.org? In any case, yeah, that should be easily resolved on Phabricator. Dmehus (talk) 19:03, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Yes, both pornwiki.org and www.pornwiki.org were used to reach pornwiki.miraheze.org. Gil Borlin (talk) 19:32, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Can you change my name into "Zes M Young"? Thanks.

By the way,how to change the blank on the left of my wiki? Zespri (talk) 14:23, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Zespri Hi. Please use Special:GlobalRenameRequest in order to request changing your username. I'm also not quite sure what you mean by "the blank on the left of [your] wiki"? Could you please clarify that? Reception123 (talk) (C) 14:32, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Can you Avoid My Wiki To Get Closed

Can you please left The TLS Wiki Open 65.131.117.97 02:02, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

I'm not sure which wiki you're referring to, but if it's tlswiki, please login to your account, and go into Special:ManageWiki on your wiki and uncheck the inactive box. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 02:22, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

I am quitting Miraheze and I want my account globaled.

I will be moving to Fandom so I can work on my pages without the stress of the biased reception wikis deleting my work for no reason... Landslider (talk) 00:07, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Landslider Sure, I can process this request for you, if you're certain this is the outcome you prefer. However, I'd like to understand what the underlying reason(s) are here for your wanting to leave Miraheze (i.e., if you are being harassed by other users, that would be something that would be of interest to me and other Stewards). Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 00:36, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Basically a user named DarkMatterMan4500 falsely blocked me for being a user that I don't even know because the way I was editing the pages, I went out mad on my talk page on Crappy Games Wiki because I was pissed off that he falsely accused me of being a user I never knew and he also might delete my pages I spent hours working on. So yes please, global my account I hate it when the reception wikis became worse when the new moderators came in and lost the old ones that made the reception wikis good. Good luck out there man. :) Landslider (talk) 00:49, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Landslider I have noticed a tendency for DarkMatterMan4500 to ask many Reception wiki users on their wiki if the user has additional accounts on Miraheze, and I have spoken to them about that. I think we would do well to have a larger conversation with the Reception wiki administrators regarding civility and remembering to assume good faith. Nevertheless, since you've reiterated a request for a self-requested lock, please consider this  done. You can e-mail Stewards at stewards(at)miraheze.org should you desire to return to Miraheze. Dmehus (talk) 02:03, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Spam accounts?

On terribletvshows.miraheze.org, I found this user: User:Glebbus2002hkso

who claims they're User:GinaGiovanniello2001 who's apparently indefinitely blocked from there.

I've opened a new discussion since the old one appears to have ended.

Should the user be globally blocked/locked here? --KingstonuHull-h1986 (talk) 10:23, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Contributions list --KingstonuHull-h1986 (talk) 10:24, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Should the user block first on that wiki and then see what happens? Global locking is a very big measure considering that it seems that that user is just a traditional vandal on one wiki and that is exactly what only happens on a particular wiki - for example external links to other user talk pages are spambots and should be locked globally immediately. Anton (talk) 11:01, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
KingstonuHull-h1986 Thank you for your report. While not what we'd consider a spam only account, Glebbus2002hkso has been  locked as a vandalism only account. Dmehus (talk) 15:13, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Locks

Special:AbuseLog again displays the same spambots that make external links to other talk pages. Could lock these: Special:CentralAuth/ElizabetCoughlin, Special:CentralAuth/WilliemaeX16, Special:CentralAuth/XavierWinsor, Special:CentralAuth/VeronicaBernacch and Special:CentralAuth/ClairBeer4268. Where exactly do these come from now? --Anton (talk) 10:58, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Globally lock this user

Can you globally block Larryding since he has left several spam comments about time travel on multiple wikis, and has been blocked several times. He also commented death threats on Terrible TV Shows Wiki (which have been deleted), he was blocked for edit warring on Rotten Websites Wiki (though that block has expired), and he has continued to bug me about said things, he claims that “I can’t tell him what to do” after I said that users are getting annoyed with his spam comments. As you can see by his global account contributions he is currently blocked on Awful Movies Wiki and Great Characters Wiki, and he has also been blocked in the past on Terrible TV Shows Wiki for sending death threats, Best TV Shows Wiki for his continuous spam comments, and as I mentioned above, he was blocked for a while on Rotten Websites Wiki for edit warring. So can you globally lock him because I think his behavior warrants a global lock. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:46, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Here are links for proof:
As can be seen in the block logs, his behavior is quite disruptive and warrants a global lock. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:05, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Blubabluba9990 Thank you for your good-faith note to Stewards to look at the user's edits. When you say "spam comments," I think there's perhaps a misunderstanding, as spam in a global context implies that a user account is posting or attempting to post, exclusively, external links to commercial websites selling various products or servers, or is in some other way attempting to hawk commercial products or services. I haven't seen any evidence the user is either (a) a spam only account, (b) a vandalism only account, or (c) an account that has in some way violated our global policies. As long Larryding doesn't attempt to use additional accounts to circumvent the local blocks that have been in place, there's no need for any global action here. Dmehus (talk) 23:12, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
By “spam” I meant off-topic. I think he has violated the Code of Conduct though, which says death threats and harassment are not allowed. This is more of a Code of Conduct issue than a spam/vandalism only account issue. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:18, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Blubabluba9990 Can you link to the specific harassment and potential Code of Conduct issues (i.e., diffs), so I can take a look at it through that lens and with that context? Dmehus (talk) 23:34, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
He made death threats in some article comments on Terrible TV Shows Wiki, though it seems the comments were deleted. He has also left these off-topic comments on multiple pages, and I think the comments have been deleted. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 00:04, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Here is his comments log on Terrible TV Shows Wiki: https://terribletvshows.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=comments&user=Larryding&page=&wpdate=&tagfilter=
He made some death threats there as can be seen there. Here are the comments logs from the other two wikis I mentioned:
https://besttvshows.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=comments&user=Larryding&page=&wpdate=&tagfilter= (Best TV Shows Wiki)
https://awfulmovies.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=comments&user=Larryding&page=&wpdate=&tagfilter= (Awful Movies Wiki) Blubabluba9990 (talk) 00:08, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
As can be seen there, he has left several repetitive comments and his behavior is disruptive. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 00:10, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Well, yes, some of the comments are inappropriate, but looking at the context in which those comments you referenced were made in poor taste based on the user being upset with some aspect of the celebrity's work. Perhaps all that's needed here is just a reminder for Larryding to try and keep their cool during particularly passionate or heated discussions. Dmehus (talk) 03:08, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Ok. Though me and several other users have told him to stop but he hasn’t listened. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 20:47, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
Update: Larryding actually admitted to sockpuppetry, if you look at his global contributions page he is blocked on many wikis now and one of the block summaries actually has a link to where he admitted it. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 20:10, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Also here is one of the sockpuppets he admitted to using in that topic (which has been deleted, but as a steward you can probably still view it): Call of duty lord, and in Call of duty lord’s global account you can see that he is blocked on almost every wiki he has been to. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 20:13, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Blubabluba9990 We're aware, and have seen the post you're referring to, but we haven't seen (a) where the user has apparently violated local policies and, crucially, (b) where the user has contravened user accounts policy. Dmehus (talk) 20:15, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
It was to evade a block on another wiki. Here is where he admitted to sockpuppeting: https://crappygames.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=Topic:W4zn93rtnw5iybvd&topic_showPostId=w4zwl7w3voctd3ag#flow-post-w4zwl7w3voctd3ag
This link is posted in most of the block logs, and even though it is deleted, as a steward you can probably view it. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 20:20, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
The post is apparently restored. But Call of duty lord does admit to being a sockpuppet of Larryding. Two other users have been suspected of also being sockpuppets of Larryding who are blocked on many of the wikis: Masterblaster and Countdieselbrain Blubabluba9990 (talk) 20:24, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Blubabluba9990 Yes, but the issue is Larryding hasn't used their Call of duty lord on a wiki where the former was blocked. Originally, Larryding was only blocked on one wiki, then pile-on local blocks occurred despite the user never having contributed to those wikis. So, other than on the one local wiki where blocked originally, Larryding's not violated any local wiki policies. Similarly, they have not violated user accounts policy as they've not edited on any wiki where blocked, other than Crappy Games Wiki and that was to confirm their account, which is a good-faith common sense exception here. So, I'm going to mark this as  no action needed. Dmehus (talk) 20:26, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Ok. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 20:27, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

502 Bad Gateway errors on wiki

I keep getting the 502 Bad Gateway error any time I try to log in to my wiki, I've tried everything in hopes of fixing it but it keeps giving me the 502 Bad Gateway error, I've tried restarting my computer, logging in on a different device, using a different web browser, signing out and back in to my Google account, deleting my browser history and cookies history but nothing works, all I get is the 502 bad error. And I can't make a my second account an administrator if I can't log into my main account. Please help fix this problem! The odd thing is is that this only happens to that account on my wiki. So I'm not looking to have another wiki, I just want this problem to be fixed as soon as possible. Sirlance3000 (talk) 03:25, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Sirlance3000 If you're getting 502 Bad Gateway errors, this is likely a server-side issue, so would best be resolved on Phabricator. Can you visit Phabricator, register an account, and login using your Miraheze Meta Wiki login? Prioritize your task as high, and system administrators will look into this for you. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 05:05, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

We have had a problem before. Try clearing your browser's cache and if that doesn't work, incognito mode will work for you. --Anton (talk) 08:57, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
It happened to me a few minutes ago, I was kicked out after a page save. I took me several minutes and trials to login again. But now, I'm back editing :-) Gerdami (talk) 13:36, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi, We're glad to hear you're able to log in. Welcome to edit again! Anton (talk) 14:24, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

I am hoping to obtain the Visual Editor extension please!

A few of my friends' pages use Visual Editor and it makes the edits process so much easier (and better looking). I am hoping to get the extension to use for my page. Thanks! BigMike18 (talk) 14:12, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello, @BigMike18:, you can do this yourself using Special:ManageWiki/extensions on your wiki. Please read ManageWiki for additional help. Thank you. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 14:16, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

@Sirlance3000: Nothing, it's part of our job. But perhaps the right place to report this is not Stewards' noticeboard? --Anton (talk) 15:25, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Sirlance3000 No problem. For further reference, the problem appears to have been related to a technical change to Miraheze's memcached system, which now been reverted and the problem corrected. Further details are available in this Phabricator ticket. If you ever have technical problems like this in the future, please register for and login to your Phabricator account to report these issues to system administrators, for more efficient service and reporting. Global lock request for spammer who tripped the abuse log on the madgendersciencewiki.

This user, MargheritaDow has tripped more than a dozen abuse logs dating all the way back to December 19, 2020. Could you potentially lock it, when you get a chance to? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:38, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

It should be locked, @Dmehus: could you do this? --Anton (talk) 15:40, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Spambot locked, but DarkMatterMan4500, please do keep in mind we spambots are common, the more urgent ones to lock are the ones that get past the abuse filters. If they're just tripping abuse filters, the abuse filters are doing their job. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 15:43, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus Alright, I'll take your suggestion into consideration. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:51, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Extension Labeled Section Transclusion

Hello Stewards, can i get enabled Extension Labeled Section Transclusion on Meta-Wiki and Login-Wiki? See discussion, thank you,--MrJaroslavik (talk) 17:38, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Done on Loginwiki and on Meta Wiki. This was quite a non-controversial request as there is a strong use case for this extension both wikis. Dmehus (talk) 19:55, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Deleting a wiki?

I requested my wiki, https://altuniverseuk1182.miraheze.org which is now closed; can it be deleted since I intend to re-create my wiki from scratch as a new wiki in the future? --KingstonuHull-h1986 (talk) 13:57, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

I should add, no local wiki policy on closure since I was the only editor --KingstonuHull-h1986 (talk) 13:58, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
I only see the message "Wiki not Found" in that link. It seems to have already been removed. --Anton (talk) 13:59, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
I set it to Private and Inactive. --KingstonuHull-h1986 (talk) 14:00, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Special:WikiDiscover lists it as Closed, which I set it to. --KingstonuHull-h1986 (talk) 14:01, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Okay, then I can't help this anymore because I'm not a steward. Thanks anyway. --Anton (talk) 14:02, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
That is because there was a typo in the URL. Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 14:05, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi, a Steward will delete the wiki for you soon. :) Redmin Contributions CentralAuth (talk) 14:06, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Done. Note your subdomain will not be immediately available until the wiki deletion script is next around in another 7-10 days. So, you'll need to request a new wiki with a different subdomain. In future, if you're just wanting to reset your wiki, standard practice is to request this on Phabricator and system administrators can run a script that forces your existing wiki database name to be dropped immediately. Lock March 17

Special:CentralAuth/NorbertoMilerum and AbuseLog (Anti-spam). --Anton (talk) 06:01, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Anton I've  locked this spam only account, but since we do get a lot of spam bots, it's usually best to report these in batches of a dozen or so, rather than one-offs. If they're flooding the local TestWiki abuse logs, feel free to locally block them for a month or so as a "spambot" or "spam only account" and then post a batch when you have a dozen or so spam only accounts that need locking and investigating. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 14:25, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Agreed, thanks Dmehus! --Anton (talk) 15:09, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Could you pls raise $wgExpensiveParserFunctionLimit

The default limit for expensive parser function calls is 99 which is just one too little for my purposes, therefore my question: could you pls raise the default to 100? Thank you in advance, Lily (Lilypond Wiki · talk to me · little garden · my wiki of everything) 09:40, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Lily This seems fine, and I assume you meant lilypondwiki, though if you could please specify any other wikis where you want this change made, that'd be great. However, due to your wiki's custom CSS/JS on that wiki, I'm not able to change this field value using various means, so would you be able to please either (a) fix your CSS/JS code on that wiki (I note that your wiki appears visually broken on the Vector skin, so that's possibly related) or (b) temporarily set your wiki to use the MediaWiki default CSS/JS code so I can effect this change? When I'm done making the change requested, you can restore your CSS/JS code. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 19:54, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
This is perfectly fine from a technical point of view if there's legitimate reasons and there clearly is but I'd recommended slightly higher as that number can change if it's not fully evaluated when it's calculated. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 21:10, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, I have no concerns with raising that limit even a bit higher than 100. The issue is a Lilypond Wiki-specific issue with the CSS/JS whereby the change I attempt to effect is not changed yet when I changed this field on Test 3 Wiki, it was effected immediately. Dmehus (talk) 02:20, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your answers. It is new to me that lilypondwiki is visually broken in Vector skin bcause Vector skin is the only skin that I allow on this wiki. Could you please post a screenshot? When I visit my wiki anonymous I do not see anything unusual everything seems fine to me. Please raise the limit on Lilypond Wiki little garden kunterbunt about PC's thank you so much Lily (Lilypond Wiki · talk to me · little garden · my wiki of everything) 04:02, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
I guess I figured in the meantime what you mean by "broken", I fixed it now (if it is what I thought). Pls add regionalbahnstattbus to the wiki list, greetings Lily (Lilypond Wiki · talk to me · little garden · my wiki of everything) 05:28, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Lily Thank you for your reply. I'll post several time-limited screenshots to WeTransfer, to prevent cluttering up Miraheze Commons with single-purpose screenshots. The first screenshot from the Main Page of Lilypond Wiki illustrates what I mean by visually broken in Vector. Notice mainly how the WikiBase-added menu is covered up by other tabs and the search bar? (This is on a Chromium-based web browser, Vivaldi.) The second screenshot from About PCs Wiki shows how the search bar also partially covers up the tabs. Anyway, regarding your request, I've now  partially completed this request as described above except for for Lilypond Wiki. At first, I wondered if it was because on most of your wikis, except for About PCs Wiki, the little -/+ button toggles that surround the $wgExpensiveParserFunctionLimit field do not appear (see screenshots #1 and #2 from About PCs Wiki and Lilypond Wiki respectively for examples of what I mean). However, I was able to change the setting on all wikis except for for Lilypond Wiki. Universal Omega and I still suspect it's something related to the CSS/JS on your wiki, but we're not sure what. Perhaps you can take a look? Dmehus (talk) 14:16, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Now I see what you mean, this is not what I thought. I have disabled all the bars at the top of the screen (it covers nothing essential on my screen), the rainbow colored bar can be closed by clicking the "x", but now it is gone anyway. You can disable it by turning off Javascript, the purple bar is stored in MediaWiki:Vector.js and the rainbow bar a gadget definition which I have removed now. About PCs Wiki was founded by an other user, he tried to do some css. This wiki is not urgent as there not that many pages, I will ask for this later, thank you very much, greetings, Lily (Lilypond Wiki · talk to me · little garden · my wiki of everything) 17:04, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus: Unfortunately there is no button to thank you for the changes in my wikis, so I thank you here and hope that is possible to change in Lilypond Wiki now, Lily (Lilypond Wiki · talk to me · little garden · my wiki of everything) 17:23, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
Lily  No problem for the changes done so far. If there is no button to thank me for the changes made, you may not have the Thanks extension enabled on your wiki, which may be either an unintentional or intentional configuration you've set. Anyway, I just tried upping the $wgExpensiveParserFunctionLimit limit to 100 on Lilypond Wiki per this request, and was still not able to do it. Your wiki, however, looks awesome now, and you could probably safely add back in the top navigation menu if you wanted. Anyway, I'm wondering if this is related to the problem you describe below in this thread, and if it might be worth creating a Phabricator task for system administrators to look into? The fact that a Steward isn't able to set $wgExpensiveParserFunctionLimit on just that wiki and you're having issues with user CSS/JS on your wiki, suggests maybe there's a configuration problem with your wiki, or maybe ManageWiki cache needs to be cleared or something? (And maybe ManageWiki cache has nothing to do with it...I'm just spitballing possible ideas here. At any rate, it seems like there's a technical problem with your wiki maybe.) Titles of articles

I believe there's a way to "disguise" a title; I've done it before on FANDOM, but I forgot how. It does not change the overall name of the article, only the title at the top of said article. Can you help me?

FreezingTNT (talk) 18:18, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

What exactly do you want to do? Not display the title on a page? There are several ways to do so. If you want to remove the title on all pages, add following entry to the Common.css (of course in your wiki) #firstHeading { display: none; } but be really carefully when you do this you could easily destroy your wiki. You can hide the title on specific namespaces if you want, hth, Lily (Lilypond Wiki · talk to me · little garden · my wiki of everything) 19:41, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

FreezingTNT If Lily's links above weren't what you were meaning by "hiding a page title," you may have meant the DISPLAYTITLE magic word/parser function. Details on how to set this on a given page are available at this MediaWiki help page. Note that you may also need to change the MediaWiki variable in the "parser functions" tab of Special:ManageWiki/settings on your wiki. Dmehus (talk) 20:19, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
BTW, isn't this rather a thread for Community noticeboard? Lily (Lilypond Wiki · talk to me · little garden · my wiki of everything) 06:04, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Lily Yeah, this probably should've been moved to community noticeboard. Sorry, I was away most of the day yesterday, so didn't get a chance to move it. Anyway, I also figured we should maybe wait until we saw whether FreezingTNT's question was answered before it moving it. I'll wait another day or so, then move it to community noticeboard. Dmehus (talk) 14:22, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
What I mean is, for example, I want to make the title of, say, "Bob" look like "Robert", without changing the overall title of the article.
EDIT: Nevermind!
FreezingTNT (talk) 16:39, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
FreezingTNT That sounds like the DISPLAYTITLE magic word described above and on that linked page, which I've again linked. Please see above and review that MediaWiki help page. Note that you may need to uncheck $wgRestrictDisplayTitle in the Parser Functions tab of ManageWiki. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 16:54, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Allowing user CSS/JS fails in my wiki

Some time ago I unchecked the boxes for user CSS/JS in my Lilypond Wiki section Manage this wiki's additional settings Styling and wanted to revert that now. I checked the boxes and submitted, but this had no effect, next time loading the page the boxes are unchecked again. Maybe the reason is that the box Default Skin is empty. Maybe the reason for that is that in the section preferences Skip Skins Vector is listed which I cannot remove. Can you pls help me out, thank you Lily (Lilypond Wiki · talk to me · little garden · my wiki of everything) 17:15, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Found a wiki violating numerous Content policies

Please note that I have sent an email to the Stewards at stewards@miraheze.org about waoryouwiki having numerous Content policy violations on all the pages that were submitted on that wiki. So, I suggest having a look at my email I sent you enlisting all the details that you'll ever need to conduct an investigation on that wiki. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 00:27, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

And there are a lot of examples of Content policy violations like this one on REDACTED, which has a lot of private and sensitive information (just like 9 other pages on that wiki itself). DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 00:48, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Please investigate the dltwiki as soon as possible

The reason why I am asking this again is because I have discovered yet another wiki that is not only violating the Content policy, but is also violating the Code of Conduct as well. The owner, 小牧 has been found to be violating the Content policy by publishing private or sensitive information (just like I stated in my last report on another wiki that was shut down) Take this for example. This link I am showing you isn't the only one that has private or sensitive information, but it's also on nearly all the pages I've visited, including this one, which also has insults, leaked names, leaked addresses (which is personal information, and a big violation of the Content Policies anyway), etc. I would highly suggest for all the contributors involved in that wiki to be globally locked as soon as possible from this User creation log, although I only came to that wiki to investigate it, and nothing else. I'd appreciate it very much, and you have my thanks. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 14:57, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

I need my password reset. I've been trying for MONTHS I can't get in

Please help me! 172.93.177.172 00:41, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

172.93.177.172, do you have an e-mail address associated to your user account? If so, then please request a new password e-mailed to your e-mail address on file unless it is an Outlook.com e-mail address, there may still be mail delivery issues. If it is an Outlook e-mail address, perhaps you could e-mail system administrators at tech(at)miraheze.org and ask them to e-mail you manually at your confirmed e-mail address on file? Following your receipt of that manual e-mail message, you could confirm receipt by replying to their message, and they may be able to change your e-mail address on file to a non-Outlook.com e-mail address? If you have no confirmed e-mail address on file and do not either (a) use your real name as part of your username or (b) have a {{committed identity}} somewhere on Miraheze, then restoring access to your account is unlikely to be possible. Best bet would be to think hard what your password might be. Failing that, I'd suggest creating a new account. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:59, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Extension "ShortDescription" request

Good morning / afternoon / night.

I'm Nino from OW.

I am making a request for you to add this extension: -G. I need her. TheNino (talk) 00:29, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

TheNino I'm surprised we don't have this extension installed on Miraheze actually, as this is a very commonly used extension. Nevertheless, these sort of things are requested on Phabricator, so I will request it for you, and link the ticket here. Dmehus (talk) 01:04, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
TheNino Please see and follow the Phabricator ticket. Thank you. Dmehus (talk) 01:12, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, for the justification of: I don't know how to use Phabricator so I had to ask right here
(I use translator) TheNino (talk) 01:15, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Okay, that's fine, I suppose, though Phabricator is not too difficult to use. It's usually just a matter of creating an account by clicking on the MediaWiki login button, then you'll be redirected back to Meta Wiki to authorize Phabricator to use your MediaWiki sign-in through OAuth. Once logged in, just click on "Maniphest," then the "feature request" form. Dmehus (talk) 01:29, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus, Wikimedia wikis don't really use this extension, as you said on Phabricator. I asked for this extension for the only way to open small words near the title. TheNino (talk) 02:55, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
TheNino Oh, okay, I guess that was a misunderstanding then as English Wikipedia does use a ShortDescription feature, which I assume must be a community-maintained gadget rather than an extension. Also, just for future reference, when replying to me and if you wish to address me by a certain name, please use either "Dmehus" or "Doug," not my full name. Thanks. Dormancy Policy Exemption for MH-142 (industrialroboticswiki)

Hello. I would like to request an exception to the dormancy/inactive policy for Industrial Robotics & Automation (mh142.com). This wiki is set up as a free open alternative for the very expensive textbooks for the classes I teach, to save the students from having to purchase one. The classes sometimes run every other semester and may not need editing when the class is not in session. I do not wish to lose the work I have put into it while I focus my efforts into other classes between the robotics courses. Mike138 (talk) 21:59, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Mike138 In terms of need for an exemption to Dormancy Policy, you've articulated a clear a need, and this is evidenced by the fact that you are the sole editor of this wiki. In terms of content, I found at least 65 content pages, some of sub-stub- and stub-level, but many of which contained important and detailed procedures and information that would be potentially detrimental if lost. So, this is  granted indefinitely as an educational resource related industrial robotics and automation intended to supplement existing open access textbooks and even potentially to replace comparable paid textbooks. Please do advise us should you no longer need this exemption. Dmehus (talk) 22:24, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Global lock for Ihatetrevor

Username violates the Username Policy, specifically: "Usernames that are offensive, contain insulting material, harass a user or are in violation of any global Miraheze policy.". The "Trevor" is apparently Trevor807, an admin on a lot of wikis. MarioMario456 (talk) 23:33, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

MarioMario456 We can't assume that "trevor" refers to Trevor807. In any event, Username Policy states that good-faith should be assumed unless the edits strongly suggest otherwise, so I've appropriately warned Ihatetrevor at their user talk page. This gives them an opportunity to request a rename. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 23:40, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Request for local "UserMerge" rights on TurtleWiki

Greetings, I would like to request local UserMerge rights for the wiki TurtleWiki, in which I am the sole Bureaucrat. Is it possible that a Steward (who according to this page have local and global UserMerge permissions) could add just the local merge permissions to the Bureaucrat user group? The reason for this request is that there are several accounts which were accidentally created when I was attempting to import templates, and a few more that users managed to create before I restricted account creation to a certain user group. I understand that I could just ask a Steward to merge these with an account I created for the purpose on TurtleWiki, but I think that it would be easier if I were able to do it myself, instead of having to request and wait for a response. It just seems like it would be a pain and a bother to have to do that every time I want to remove an account from TurtleWiki. Thank you in advance! Turtle84375 (talk) 23:42, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Turtle84375 While it's not feasible, at least currently, to delegate the usermerge user right, if you'll specify the user accounts that you wish to be merged, it should be possible for a Steward to perform this for you. How does that sound? Dmehus (talk) 23:44, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Ah, I was afraid of that. Oh well, that's fine, let me put a list together real quick... Turtle84375 (talk) 23:49, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Turtle84375 Alright. I've just checked Special:Log/newusers on turtlewikiwiki, and it looks like two of the users might be DeletedUser and Turtle84385. I see both accounts were created by you while logged in as Turtle84375, so that's good. The issue, though, is that because you already logged in to both accounts, you created a global account, which automatically attached the accounts to Loginwiki and this wiki. Thus, they're no longer local user accounts, so even if there were the community-endorsed policy for the delegation you describe, these couldn't be handled by a local wiki bureaucrat anyway as it affects multiple wikis. Plus, procedurally, it's a bit of a pain as the accounts would need to be unmerged, then locally merged into your local wiki user accounts on each of those wikis. I can see a case for doing that for DeletedUser, but for Turtle84385, my preference would be for you to just retain that as an alternate account. You could self-request a lock of that alternate account, if you wished, instead. Dmehus (talk) 23:57, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Yes, both of those accounts were ones I created, and for those ones I don't want them merged. I created DeletedUser after reading about the UserMerge MediaWiki extension, but then saw that it wasn't an extension listed. Turtle84385 was just me testing the anti-username-spoof filter, which didn't seem to work, at least for the number, so I just kept it for testing. I plan to keep Turtle84385. So, if I understand correctly, there's a complicated process that you would need to go through in order to merge the extra accounts ("created automatically") with DeletedUser? Turtle84375 (talk) 00:10, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Turtle84375 Yeah, I mean, it's a bit of effort certainly. To provide some perspective, the workflow for a Steward would work something like this:
  1. Add local steward rights on each of Special:UserRights/Name of Steward@turtlewikiwiki and Special:UserRights/Name of Steward@loginwiki
  2. Unmerge DeletedUser at Special:CentralAuth/DeletedUser
  3. Merge DeletedUser into Turtle84375 using Special:UserMerge on turtlewikiwiki
  4. Merge DeletedUser into Turtle84375 using Special:UserMerge on loginwiki
  5. Merge DeletedUser into Turtle84375 using Special:UserMerge on metawiki
  6. Remove local steward rights on each of Special:UserRights/Name of Steward@turtlewikiwiki and Special:UserRights/Name of Steward@loginwiki
  7. Potentially add DeletedUser to the title blacklist to prevent recreation
It would be much simpler and quicker, if you preferred, to just globally rename DeletedUser to another username, which you could request at Special:GlobalRenameRequest or via reply to this thread. Hope that provides some helpful information and clarification here. Dmehus (talk) 00:23, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh, I think there might be some confusion here; I'm keeping DeletedUser so that these accounts on TurtleWiki can be merged into it, if that's possible:

Or is there another way to remove these users from TurtleWiki? Because them being there allows them to log in and view pages... Turtle84375 (talk) 00:49, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Turtle84375 Oh, that's definitely not possible as accounts are automatically added to local wikis merely by visiting them while logged in. Those are all Miraheze users. Your adding an unconfirmed user group to each of them is an appropriate way to handle this. You could instead make turtlewikiwiki private in Special:ManageWiki, which would mean that only users granted the sysop or member local user groups would have read access to your wiki (not counting stewards and system administrators) which have global read access for mainly technical and global policy reasons). Dmehus (talk) 00:56, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
That's effectively what I tried to do; the only problem is that I deleted the "members" user group and haven't found a way to restrict read access. The problem is, I think I broke something... TurtleWiki is marked as private, but I can still read pages using my alt, Turtle84385, even without "read" permissions. I think I messed something up by deleting user groups not knowing the full impact of doing so. Is there such thing as a wiki reset? Because I think that may be the best course of action; I haven't added much content-wise to TurtleWiki yet, and I believe that I need the user groups put back to default. Turtle84375 The user is a MediaWiki default user group, so you'll need to remove the read user right from Special:ManageWiki/permissions/user on your wiki, and just assign the member or sysop user group (to users you want to have view access to your entire wiki, of course). By default, member is the user group that defaults to having read access on private wikis, though this could be changed with a GitHub pull request on your wiki if you were absolutely concerned with it being named something else. It just couldn't be user Dmehus (talk) 01:30, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Ahhhh it all makes sense now. Thank you for your help! Turtle84375 (talk) 01:33, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Turtle84375 No problem...I've  fixed your wiki with just single log action to illustrate how simple it is and all that needs to be done. Now looking at your list of users, the only users, as of this reply's posting time, that can view your wiki are yourself, as a local sysop, myself (as a steward), and Southparkfan as a system administrator. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 01:40, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Yay! But now I can't view the wiki. I mean..that's ok for now. Anpang (talk) 01:46, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Anpang Yep, that's how private wikis work. Turtle84375 would need to add the member (or sysop) group to you to view more than the Main Page on the wiki. Dmehus (talk) 01:47, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
@Turtle84375 That means you need to change the main page to something else, not about Planet Turtle. Else people that you didn't add can still see it. Anpang (talk) 01:50, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, best practice is to create a public Main Page like this wiki. One can also redirect the Main Page to an internal page on the wiki, too, as a workaround. Dmehus (talk) 01:53, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Yup, I'm doing that right now, actually. Turtle84375 (talk) 02:00, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Sorry for annoying, but I have a suggestion that that thing happened because you deleted the Member user group. Users in the Member user group are only registered users. That means you can't edit permissions on registered users. Anpang (talk) 01:17, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Hmm...maybe that's not the thing - I logged out and then I can still see the wiki Anpang (talk) 01:20, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh, my account's merged too lol Anpang (talk) 01:15, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Anpang Hrm? I don't understand what you mean. Dmehus (talk) 01:30, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
I mean that in the list of users that Turtle post, I am included in there. Anpang (talk) 01:41, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Anpang Ah, okay, thanks for clarifying. Yeah, I mean, I'm not sure why Turtle84375 effectively pinged that list of users above by linking to their Meta user pages, so each of those users will receive an Echo notification on this wiki. Dmehus (talk) 01:49, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Yikes, sorry about that... forgot about the pinging. Turtle84375 (talk) 01:59, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Turtle84375  Not a problem. Dmehus (talk) 02:00, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

Notify "phantom".
@Dmehus: Good morning. I just noticed that I have a "phantom" notification regarding the wiki mentioned in this section. Because the wiki is private and I don't have permissions to disable "local" wiki notifications or check if that would work or persist. This problem already happened to me once in a similar case reported on IRC a few years ago with my old account. --Hispano76 (talk) 21:47, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Hispano76 Yeah...there's two options you have to fix this. First, Turtle84375 could temporarily grant you member access to turtlewikiwiki to clear your Echo notifications on that wiki. Second, and alternatively, you could raise a Phabricator task for system administrators to edit the database on that wiki to clear your notifications. You'd probably want to assign the Database and MediaWiki (SRE) projects and triage the task as normall priority. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 21:53, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
@Hispano76: Hey there, I can give you temporary Member permissions, you should be able to edit preferences using that, so you can disable the notifications. Sorry about that, it seems like you're referenced in a few of the templates I tried to port into TurtleWiki. Turtle84375 (talk) 22:31, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Turtle84375 Thank you for doing that for Hispano76. That will definitely be helpful for them. Dmehus (talk) 22:37, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus As you put it,  No problem. Turtle84375 (talk) 22:42, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
