Wiki restricted setting change requests
Welcome to restricted wiki setting changes requests!

This page can be used to request that Stewards change a setting that is restricted and cannot be changed by bureaucrats, including extensions that require a Steward to enable them (such as Cargo, Semantic MediaWiki) and Dormancy Policy exemptions.

To make a request, copy the following code and place it at the very bottom of this page. Replace every section as needed:

== <Name of wiki> ==
{{SN wiki request

Dormancy Policy Exemption Request (Cholecalciferol)[edit | edit source]

Status:  Not done

I would like to make a Dormancy Policy Exemption Request for the wiki Cholecalciferol.

While I will keep updating the wiki the data that is collected there is valuable for future readers and researchers. I also refer people to the resource as required. The pace of updates has slowed down but may pick up again if other parts of the project get reactivated. Should I loose access to it I would be distressed if all the hard work were to evaporate.

The basis for the request is

  • Wikis made to be read, where a lot of information is already on wiki and doesn't need to be actively edited.

The bulk of the data is collected on the medical research page DOI and on my personal biography page Bio

Thank you KalleMP (talk) 21:12, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Current body of content does not qualify for a dormancy exemption, but I am happy to report that our Dormancy Policy will soon be amended to extend the minimum time between start of inactivity and a wiki being eligible for deletion to a full year. I hope this will meet your needs once implemented . --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 23:18, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The expected changes to extend the time make the situation less onerous but does not resolve the problem of preserving access to knowledge if I should happen to no longer be able to maintain it.
Please indicate where I can examine what is required for a body of content to qualify to see if I am able to comply.
KalleMP (talk) 12:30, 11 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@KalleMP: apologies for the delay in response, I'll try to give some guidance on this. Ultimately it comes down to Steward discretion based on the guidelines as listed here, leaning stricter depending if the potential coverage is broader or if the wiki's content is simply very slim in the first place. The initial concern was likely due to the very low volume of pages; we hope for say, a dozen significant pages as a practice among stewards as a minimum if the content otherwise fits the conditions (a conditional guideline based on policy's "where a lot of information is already on wiki"). I can appreciate that the linked pages are very long and could reasonably count as multiple by this assessment, if say only a half dozen more pages of reasonable substance can be produced in good time due to the sheer mass of the ones you've linked.
This is balanced with the nature of how Dormancy Policy is applied and if reasonable updates can be done in its span, ie, if you are able to make monthly or even bimonthly updates, dormancy will never be a concern because it's two months to get any flag and another two months before that flag restricts editing (at which point the bureaucrat will be notified automatically by email). Exceptions are not granted if the basis critically depends on possible absence (the 'writer hit by a bus' problem).
Feel free to pursue further if, based on this explanation, you still can offer rationale why an exemption is warranted based on the above, be it basing on the existing body of content being a bit more than initially described or arguing a seasonal nature of updates meaning you can't necessarily check in often enough for the dormancy script to be thwarted. If you get irregular editors already and/or the wiki is known to a dedicated audience of the kinds of readers it is out for, those editors could sustain the content indefinitely as I've seen happen for some wikis despite them totally lacking committed management. --raidarr (💬) 18:59, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Cute Fame Wiki[edit | edit source]

Status:  Cannot be undertaken
  • Reason(s): The auto archive feature comes into effect too often. While the wiki is meant to have no new content or information on it until the next game (relating to the wiki) releases, And can be documented here. CuteFame (talk) 17:29, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If you're referring to our dormancy policy, this wiki unfortunately does not qualify for such an exemption given the limited body of work currently hosted. However, our Dormancy Policy has recently changed to be substantially more generous, only triggering an inactivity notice after 2 months, closure notice at 4 months, and deletion eligibility only after a full year of no edits. We hope this better-meets your needs given the infrequent need for editing. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 16:13, 7 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This, Does not. Is there anything else I can do to qualify? CuteFame (talk) 15:10, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@CuteFame: apologies for the delay in response - much of my answer from the above section applies here, you may find it useful; I would otherwise add that it would help if the main page was more structure-complete (for what it is) and if more of the placeholder sections, links were at least given a feasible skeleton to fill out when more content becomes available, as the current condition of the wiki is simply quite incomplete at a glance and that does not generally elicit confidence to issue a borderline exemption. A small, but reasonably polished project may qualify under this basis, while the wiki in this case seems to need more setup. --raidarr (💬) 19:03, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Is there anyway I may hire someone to help me flesh out a page? 🤔, I didn't wanna have to be backed up on managing setup where it's undeeded yet. CuteFame (talk) 19:08, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Lemming MediaWiki[edit | edit source]

This requires SRE intervention, to my understanding, and is better-suited to an issue-tracker ticket. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 22:58, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Liberapedia[edit | edit source]

Status:  Not done
  • Reason(s): This wiki has no active administrators or bueraucrats, and it lacks almost all of the extensions it tries to use, making the wiki's pages very broken. As I would like to edit this wiki, I am requesting that templatestyles and PortableInfobox be enabled so that the wiki is actually functional. コレイ (talk) (contributions) 17:27, 17 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not done, I see activity from admins/crats within the last month, please reach out to them on-wiki. Users are strongly encouraged to hold a Local Election and elect an active crat/admin if none remain available. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 22:56, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Restore DP exemption to darkwitch.miraheze.org, and re-close wiki[edit | edit source]

Status:  Done
Closure traditionally sets off the timeline to deletion and is an unusual thing to mix with a DP exemption, indeed, the closure description by default is incompatible with DPE. Is the desire for the wiki to remain read-only as an archive? If so perhaps a custom configuration should be considered rather than the gnarly closure message, assuming the wiki is content complete. I'm also not sure it would be fair to retain a permanent DPE and/or restrict from editing when the only basis for closure was a personal lack of time or interest anymore. If it was a personal project that's one thing, but for a wider property it seems unfair. Would it be at all possible to check in from time to time or even solicit cvt to take a look once in a while, and the wiki either naturally expire from there or be picked up by a willing editor? --raidarr (💬) 09:24, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I was uninvolved with the closure but I believe the archive-only route is the way that Yuzrnaime took.
Not sure if the latter action would be viable. I've decided to disasociate myself with the wiki, and Yuzr did the same. If so, the closure scenario is most likely, but IDK if that's what Yuzrnaime would want. --Zeus, aka Blad (tcg) 20:35, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I was involved in the originally suggested path forward. The wiki is content complete but at high risk of vandalism, so closure was suggested as a method to lock content. @Zeus and @Yuzrnaime, since closure clearly represents a problem with risk of deletion, would removal of edit/upload rights be sufficient to meet goal of preserving content? --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 22:44, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I believe so. --Zeus, aka Blad (tcg) 23:01, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks, executed as proposed. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 23:19, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks! Not sure if this is within my (or your) jurisdiction, but is it also possible to blank or redirect the sitenotice to this blog? It might be misleading to display "This wiki is leaving lockdown!", but the wiki itsef is locked. --Zeus, aka Blad (tcg) 01:53, 22 April 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Reason(s): Needed for Scribunto to work properly
Scribunto's function (allowing for scripting language support in MediaWiki) should not be dependent on Semantic MediaWiki to work; this sounds like a bug that should be reported on Wikimedia Phabricator (Miraheze does not maintain the extension). Tali64³ (talk | contributions) 16:22, 14 May 2024 (UTC) Disregard; it appears that Scribunto is enabled globally, which means that it is already enabled on the wiki in question and thus not available in the MW interface. Looking at the ManageWiki configuration of the wiki, however, Semantic Scribunto (a variety of Scribunto) does require Semantic MediaWiki in order to be enabled. The Backrooms Wiki[edit | edit source]

Status:  In progress
  • Reason(s): The wiki is largely a personal project for me. While it has seen work from other editors, a large portion of the wiki's pages are made by me. I have devoted over a year of editing almost every other day and it would be devastating if this content was lost. The wiki is also read by many people, yet it does not have many active editors. ReplaceText is sadly incompatible with revision compression, which is currently enabled globally to ensure we can provide a performant product. We are hard at work on developing a comparable replacement and hope to be able to provide this option in the near future. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 15:31, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

(Non-steward comment) The extension (called Previews in ManageWiki for some reason) does not appear to be a restricted setting, but rather it requires the extensions "PageImages" and "TextExtracts" to be already enabled. The latter already is enabled, and the former is also not a restricted setting. BlankEclair (talk) 00:52, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
