Global Flooders (global-flood) are trusted automated processes or users whose edits are hidden from the Recent changes feed and related feeds (including IRC and Discord feeds) to prevent backlogging/flooding these and making them unnavigable for users who are patrolling a wiki or who want to see non-bot changes.

Membership[edit | edit source]

This user group was created for MediaWiki server-side scripts (run by system administrators) which have the ability to flood a wiki's Recent Changes feed due to their repetitive actions (such as the Maintenance script user).

Stewards may grant this flag temporarily to a trusted user on a limited basis where there is valid need globally, though it is entirely up to their discretion. It is discouraged for this to be the first solution, though. If a user is working on one or a small set of wikis, they should seek the bot flag there from the local bureaucrats. Where there are no local bureaucrats, Stewards should be petitioned for temporary rights at Stewards' noticeboard#Other access.

System administrators may occasionally grant this group to scripts which have the ability to flood or backlog a feed.

Users with the appropriate access (such as Stewards, Trust and Safety, and system administrators) may grant themselves the group temporarily if they are making large-scale edits globally, but it is typically recommended that a user grant themselves the bot group on the wiki they're working on instead of the Global Flooders group.

Usage[edit | edit source]

The Global Flooders group does not entitle its holder to any other special privileges apart from being treated like a bot by the MediaWiki software. Global Flooders should not misuse their rights to make controversial changes in secret or to hide things from general public view. System administrator-run MediaWiki server-side scripts are bound to standards and regulations set forth by the technical team.

Technical abilities[edit | edit source]

Global Flooders have the following rights assigned:

  • bot - Be treated as an automated process
