Reason: This request is made in my capacity as a user. After an IP address vandalized Meta earlier today, User:Fungster suspiciously wrote this comment on this talk page, basically implying that his IP is the one who did the vandalism (therefore him). In light of this, I don't think he has any place to continue to be a wiki creator, as wiki creators must be users who are trusted. Reception123 (talk) (C) 16:30, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Now I know why I applied too early to be a wiki creator. Additional comments: I've been on the fence about whether I wanted to put this out here for a couple of days now, and I've ultimately decided to go for it. I've been a member of Miraheze in good standing for approximately a full consistent year now. Despite having a few periods of inactivity due to personal issues, I believe that I am still able to volunteer at this basic level.

In the interest of full disclosure and transparency, an essay regarding my history with Miraheze can be found here. However, as that is entirely history, I will not discuss the contents or the context of that essay here, but I'm putting it out for anyone who may want to read it.   •  Support I don't usually comment on non-advanced user rights requests so this act alone shows the strength and angle I'm coming from. I'm completely ignoring the history here, it's irrelevant to me. It's a case of both sides baiting each other where both sides carry fault and neither has the morale ability to go "yeah well you did x" because the side saying that, did something equally as bad. Amanda has been fairly active both community and technical wise, I have full trust in her ability to handle wiki creations and she always pushes the understanding of obscure, unwritten or unclear policies, guidelines and behaviours. This is an action I like as it increases and enforces accountability. I do not believe she will abuse the ability, neither will she use them against the written policies since she is such an advocate of clear and written word. Further with recent changes, there is even less risk with wikicreator privileges than in the past - so even if I had doubt, the doubt would not be a major issue for me. If you review the history, my views are made clear there. In summary, members of the community and Miraheze system administrators chose to provoke conflict, create unnecessary drama and chose to take escalatory steps instead of dispute resolution, listening and responding appropriately. There was a choice of "us v them" mentality instead of a fostering inclusive community vibe, where everyone is equal. John (talk) 15:41, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

  •  Strongly oppose Although we do need more wiki creators, My strong oppose means one thing: User:Amanda Catherine says that "Despite having a few periods of inactivity due to personal issues," I don't think a user full of personal issues should be a wiki creator, as Miraheze is growing bigger and wiki creators who are inactive for a week or so should be removed from all rights (except for autoconfirmed) in my view. The personal issues that I experienced in the past have been resolved for now, and so they should not affect my ability to be a wiki creator. Besides, while we do need more wiki creators, we have enough who are prolifically active that it's not the end of the world if I happen to need to take some time off again. This isn't adminship or stewardship where extended inactivity is discouraged. Revoking advanced rights after just a week of inactivity is unreasonable and we would end up with far fewer, not more, users with advanced rights under that principle. Reason: I'd like to apply for sysop even though I'm new because I've noticed how small the sysop group is and I think I could be a good extension to the current team. During recent issues with vandalism and where things required a sysop-attention there can be a long wait for sysop attention when I've been around and could have been helpful but had to wait for a sysop to turn up which was in cases hours later.
Additional comments: I also have been helping Miraheze on Phab and Github and I use this nick on IRC/Discord/Wikimedia/Github and probably a few more things if you want to check on anything I've done elsewhere or ask me anything. However, that being said, looking through this user's CentralAuth, I don't feel that they have enough global activity at this time to justify my support. I'm happy to support anyone for wiki creator as long as they show some significant global activity somewhere, but having only 39 edits to the wiki where they are the most active (and the wiki where they hold bureaucrat and sysop permissions) doesn't quite inspire confidence. Since 22 May, after sysadmins took away his sysadmin permissions because of a investigation according to the logs MacFan4000 has not had any edits or any actions on Miraheze at all. Meta needs active administrators not people who seem to have left the project. --DeeM28 (talk) 18:15, 8 August 2019‎

 Comment: I feel like users who have advanced user rights who are inactive on wikis should have their rights immediately revoked if stewards as a group establish a consensus which opts out of the current admin inactivity policy (set up at 28 June 2019) as 6 months inactivity. There have been cases where users got removed from wikicreator rights due to inactivity (especially this diff), so I think this request for removal should prevail. --znotch190711 (temporary signature) 08:34, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

@Znotch190711: There is absolutely no need for Stewards to override a local wiki's policy, if it functions and if the administrators are active. It is out of the question that the Meta admin policy would be "opted out" by Stewards. Wiki creators have been removed based on the local policy, nothing else. @RhinosF1: If I understand correctly what you're saying, I think CN is more of a discussion board rather than one where rights are handled. @RhinosF1: That is true, but we can't mix up global rights and local rights, as they are separate and have different requirements (i.e. Meta has a specific revocation rule, while CVT doesn't). Is there any other need than the one described? From a developer perspective this is 100% delegated to local communities. From an ops perspective, we now enforce a “if they can do it, don’t do it” policy. I've decided to oppose this as in the short time this user has been back from an extended wikibreak where they had no contact with anyone on wiki, despite saying they've 'been helping out around here lately' I've yet to see them successfully help a single user on wiki. I've advised this user on IRC to wait for a week or two and make sure you show your face. When asked whether I'd nominate them days before this request, I again told them to wait a bit, to which they have not done which shows an eagerness similar to that of the current steward application of another user. I do not understand why help on Phabricator is important for a wiki request. For me it is important that a wiki creator knows policies and has been around at least a bit which it seems that Examknow has.     All right, I agree with the fact that the signature was using a very and uncommonly long source code. However, you could've asked the user to fix it by him/herself before forcefully fixing it. Reason: As I have been involved on meta for some time now, I would like to extend my capabilities with additional tools to help me in my day to day activities on meta. I have been caught in a handful of situations in which I was the only user online and ready to respond to vandalism and spam incidents. I believe that the undo function which comes with all user accounts suffices for a good majority of scenarios, but for those select situations in which the edit interface either extremely delays response or several revisions make it unreasonable to use such features, it becomes necessary to possess a tool which allows for quick, easy, and accurate reversion.

Reason: As you may or may not know, with the the creation of Miraheze Limited, Labster has recently transferred our financial assets to Miraheze Limited. The board has decided that Owen (John's cousin and board member) is the treasurer of Miraheze Limited and as such will be taking care of the finances from now on. Before, Labster was given sysop rights on Meta in order to be able to edit the Finance page which is a sensitive page that should only be edited by trusted people. It has been made clear many times before that Meta is intended for the Miraheze community as a whole, and should not be overrun by staff. Owen has no clear need for admin tools, and neither did Labster. Assigning these rights based simply on the principle of being staff is frankly offensive. What other options were considered? I mean, editprotected exists for a reason (but that's not even mentioning the ridiculous mass protection here on Miraheze).   •  Oppose If the sole purpose of giving him the permission is to allow him to edit protected pages, we can simply create a new usergroup instead. Also, being trustworthy as the member of the board doesn't necessarily mean that he is trustworthy as a wiki editor. IMO, he doesn't seem to be very experienced in wiki editing, and thus do not think giving the whole sysop permissions is a good idea.   •  Support I have read the other comments and I agree that the bureaucracy around here and on the Wikipedias is very ridiculous at times. Though in this case I would rather that Owen has sysop as long as he only uses it for Finance. That is because the alternative is more bureaucracy, to create another group just for one user to edit a page. While I agree that this is not great, it is easier this way in my view. Or, would there be a technical way of allowing only one user to edit a page? Reason: First of all, as always I want to make clear that when requesting revocation I do not want to discourage any user from participating and voluteering but I don't like people having rights and not using them or not having a need. I am not sure why it was not done concurrently with the nomination of Owen as administrator, but since Labster no longer has the need to edit the Finance page which is given as the reason for him being made administrator (before there was voting) I think that the original purpose for his adminship no longer exists and therefore it should be removed. Of course if adminship is still desired Labster should open a new vote, but the original mandate has been exhausted and there was never a mandate from the users for the position. --DeeM28 (talk) 09:55, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

  •  Oppose Labster has done a fair share of sysop work with his tools. It would also disrupt the precedent we've already set here on Meta. Frankly, if we're to examine anybody's sysop rights, we should be looking at revi, NDKilla, and SPF. We need to decide if sysop tools should be held onto for merit and edits, or just admin actions.
