Help:Global blocks
Whenever an IP address or range causes problems on a Miraheze wiki, they may be blocked on all of our wikis to stop further disruptions. These IP blocks are called global IP blocks and only prevent non-logged in users from creating accounts and editing while not logged in. If you're logged in, most of these blocks will never affect you.
If you are impacted by one of these blocks, please read the sections below for helpful tips on how to request an account or bypass the block.
Reasons
Cross-wiki abuse
"Cross-wiki abuse. Contact cvt[at]miraheze.org if affected"
Most times, these blocks aren't directed specifically towards you. If an IP address or range causes issues on multiple wikis, we may block it to prevent further disruptions. These blocks normally don't influence logged-in users, so if you have an account, you should be able to log in and edit. If you're on a public network (such as an airport, coffee shop, or school network), you might encounter this error too. Try creating an account on your home network first, and you should be able to log in even if the network you're on is blocked.
If you're trying to make an account but encounter this error, you can ask us to make an account for you. You may either use this form to request an account or if you are unable to, you may email us at cvt
with the full error (copy and paste the entire error, don't send a screenshot) and tell us what username you want and what email we should have MediaWiki send a password to.

Cross-wiki spamming

If an IP address or range spams multiple wikis, we normally block it to prevent further abuse. Typically, we issue local blocks against these sorts of spammers, but if the spam affected multiple wikis, we will block it on all our wikis. These blocks normally don't affect logged in users so if you have an account, you should be able to edit.

Cross-wiki vandalism

Similarly to blocks done for cross-wiki abuse, these blocks are normally not directed to you. If someone abuses an IP address or range to vandalize multiple wikis, we'll normally block them to cease the disruptions. Global IP blocks typically don't affect logged-in users, so if you have an account, you may log in as normal, and you should be able to edit. If you're on a public network (such as an airport, coffee shop, or school network), you might encounter this error too. Try creating an account on your home network first, and you should be able to log in even if the network you're on is blocked.

Long-term abuse

If a user abuses an IP address or range over a long period of time, we may block it to prevent further disruptions to our wikis. If you've never disrupted a Miraheze wiki, then this block isn't meant for you, it's probably meant for someone with an IP similar to you or someone who shares your IP address. These blocks almost never affect logged-in users. If you have an account, log in, and you should be able to edit.

Web host or open proxy
"Web host or open proxy. Contact cvt[at]miraheze.org if affected"
Due to constant abuse, Miraheze does not allow users using a web hosting or a proxy service (such as a VPN provider) to edit our wikis without being logged in or creating an account. If you have a VPN turned on, please turn it off and you should no longer see this error. If you still see it, try clearing your cookies. Once you have an account, you won't be affected by these blocks any more, and you can edit with a VPN on or using a web host connection.
If you're trying to make an account but encounter this error and you have turned off your VPN to no avail, you may either use this form to request an account or if you are unable to, you may email us at cvt
with the full error (copy and paste the entire error, don't send a screenshot) and tell us what username you want and what email we should have MediaWiki send a password to.

Trust and Safety enforcement action
"Trust and Safety enforcement action—Direct enquiries to ts[at]miraheze.org"
Trust and Safety is the team in charge of enforcing Miraheze's Terms of Use. They typically only block IP ranges in connection to enforcing the Terms of Use.
If you were blocked by Trust and Safety, please email ts
and they'll provide more guidance.

What to do if affected
Typically, global IP blocks only affect anonymous users' ability to create accounts or edit. If you have an account, you should be able to login and edit. If you've been globally blocked and are trying to create an account, you can request one using this form or you may email us at cvt
with the full error (copy and paste the entire error, don't send a screenshot) and tell us what username you want and what email we should have MediaWiki send a password to.
