Trouble with CSS on templates[edit | edit source]

The CSS of some of my templates aren't working properly for some reason:

For reference here are the wikipedia versions of the same template:

Is there some way to fix it? Philimania and Sovaland (talk) 09:21, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Jph2: has the same problems with [Template:Bar_box] and [Template:Pie_chart].
[Template:Multiple_image] is a whole different problem. You have a Lua error there. It refers to line 107 of Module:Lua_banner which is about "currentProt" Current Protection. I believe that has to do with protecting the Main page. So try Protecting the Main page.  Kind regards,   Rodejong   💬 Talk ✉️ Email  📝 Edits   Auth →  10:16, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We're not sure what the problem with [Template:Bar_box] and [Template:Pie_chart] is. We're still figuring this out. It could be something with updating the MediaWiki software, but we'll keep you updated.  Kind regards,   Rodejong   💬 Talk ✉️ Email  📝 Edits   Auth →  10:22, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks to Xena on Discord, the solution for Bar box and Pie chart is to add <templatestyles src="Multiple image/styles.css" /> to the top of those templates after <includeonly>.
Your MediaWiki:Common.css needs to have the following added to fix Multiple image (besides the issues User:Rodejong pointed out). Ro is also the source of this fix.
.floatright {
    margin: 0 0 0.5em 0.5em;
    clear: right;
    float: right;
}
.floatleft {
    margin: 0 0.5em 0.5em 0;
    float: left;
    clear: left;
}

Custom MediaWiki CSS[edit | edit source]

Is there something special or different I have to do to use MediaWiki:Common.css on Miraheze? I tried several basic codes, but none worked (yes, I cleared my browser cache).
Here are some that I have tried that did nothing:

.p-banner .mw-wiki-title {
    padding-right: 10px;
}

.wt-notice .wt-notice--cn {
    display: none;
}

.mw-header-container {
	margin: 7px;
}

Am I not being specific enough? DigitalKandra/DK - Talk | Email | Contributions 19:54, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your CSS rules are most likely being overridden by defaults given more importance; you should use Inspect Element to get the specific rules you need to modify in order to have your styles apply (using the !important flag may also technically work, but it's not recommended for a variety of reasons, most notably the fact that it sets all the sub-properties in a shorthand as important). So for some reason I cannot edit or edit source even with verified email, can someone tell me how can I fix this or help me with it?

Constantly getting logged out[edit | edit source]

I am operating under the account User:Cyclonial. However, I keep getting logged out whenever I open another tab. Despite me clearing my cookies and checking if they haven't been blocked, the problem still persists. Has anyone experienced the same issue here? 2600:1700:3FA3:8020:10B9:3335:1130:B452 01:46, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please make sure you've checked the "keep me logged in" box.
Even then, it still happens you may be logged out from time to time, though not usually on your primary wiki.
If the problem persists, please let us know in the support channel on Discord.

Here is what I have tried so far:
  • Disabling extensions/plugins
  • Disabled antivirus
  • Tried logging in on different browsers and devices
  • Changing my password
  • Went into private mode
It seems like signing into another wiki will keep me logged in, but whenever I visit the Meta/Login wiki it signs me out. However there is a thread on Phabricator related to this. 2600:1700:3FA3:8020:3558:F8DC:B2A4:FC0 22:20, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How to update extensions?[edit | edit source]

I have recently got my code merged into PortableInfobox (commit 1c52d83), and I would like to use that on the Rainverse Wiki.

The page for extensions says to create a task on Phorge to request new extensions, but I couldn't find anything to request an update to an existing extension.

mh:rainverse:Special:Version currently says it that is running PortableInfobox "0.6 (3aaa4fb)" released on 18:52, 1 April 2024. I believe the extension is updated on Miraheze by an erratic schedule (or perhaps none), because:

The Director of Technology here at Miraheze is @Universal Omega, who also owns that repository you got your code merged into. Just make a task on Phorge and UO will get around to updating the code here. Alternatively, you can make a pull request in miraheze/mediawiki-repos. Labster (talk) 04:24, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I have updated PortableInfobox here on Miraheze now. Universal Omega (talk) 04:35, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
mh:rainverse:Special:Version still reports PortableInfobox as on 0.6 (3aaa4fb). - BlankEclair (talk) 05:39, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's because gitinfo isn't always updated. But the extension code is actually updated. If the config is set it will work. Universal Omega (talk) 05:40, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I bumped the version so you can see it updated now. Universal Omega (talk) 05:46, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Amazingly, it reports as "0.7 (3aaa4fb)" from 18:52, 1 April 2024. Thanks anyway! I've asked my friend to make a pull request on miraheze/mw-config to add a setting for the new config variable. - BlankEclair (talk) 05:54, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Once you find something that cosides with the policy you should be good just make sure you can follow the wiki rules of having one ok and you should be fine. TheFunny339YoshiPlushGuy (talk) 00:27, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What's a good subdomain? Iron Sword 23 (talk) 00:28, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I am not into all this wiki stuff of making one but a rule of thumb is to make sure you read the policy of Wiki's as it will list out what you can or cannot do btw You should be active on the wiki request stuff as if you take way to long it will get declined but if you find that spark then reopen it and answer the wiki farmers questions and you should be good. anyway let's not bloat the community portal with unnecessary stuff if you want to ask users questions outside of here go to their talk pages. TheFunny339YoshiPlushGuy (talk) 00:34, 10 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think any name will succeed under the right conditions. The only thing that comes to mind is that the subdomain should avoid names that can be easily misspelled in a myriad number of ways.

Sidebar links and Templates[edit | edit source]

Not an urgent issue. Trying to configure Navigation sidebar on my wiki using the Cosmos skin. When trying to include a link to a page called "Map" (not created yet though), it automatically renames it (in the Nav sidebar) to "Coordinates information" which I've figured out comes from the page MediaWiki:Map. I suppose it's just one of those automatic fill-ins like how randompage-url fills in whatever link you put in for a random page. Writing "Map|Name thats not Map" changes the link destination to a page called "Coordinates information" instead too... I can't find any documentation on the purpose of this page though so I don't know if it's safe to change or delete... Also this happens regardless of editing it on MediaWiki:Sidebar or MediaWiki:Cosmos-navigation. OK so sorry I just saw the "Sections disappear or show unexpected content" part in the manual and it provides a solution. But what is that interface message for, out of curiosity's sake?

Also also a secondary question: initially while editing the sidebar, the headers weren't links unless I specifically made them links. But after a few edits and deletions the headers now all are links no matter what, and I don't know how to disable it.. any help is much appreciated, I'm very new to all this.

Woshixiaodegou (talk) 04:52, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tertiary question (sorry, I don't know if I should be editing the original post or replying), I can't wrap my head around the reason for TemplateData needing to be on a Template's doc page. Making a doc page already requires Lua or something? You need a Module:Documentation in the wiki? I guess I could just copy one but I don't want to do it without understanding why... then the doc page is supposed to include the Template it's documenting, but when I link back to the documentation on the Template page, it creates an infinite recursive loop?? T_T Also, Templates all seem to be for putting the same item in several pages, but is there something that works like an actual "template" where you provide a format for a page to follow and you can edit all the headers and content to whatever is needed for that page, and you might even delete some or add more? Because I noticed I can't edit these directly in Visual Editor, only Source Editor, unless I assign each part to a parameter in TemplateData... is the simplest way just to make a boilerplate of a plain page that isn't a template or just copy an existing page's format... Woshixiaodegou (talk) 09:41, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Documentation templates can be very simple, like Fandom ones, Lua is just a way to make very complex stuff, like on Wikipedia. TemplateData lets you to tie template parameters with visual editor. Its code can be included inside template (wrapped in <noinclude> tags), but it's just recommended to be in /doc page because extension essentially creates breakdown table of parameters, like documentations usually do. I'm source editor enjoyer, and thus don't feel like doing more work with TemplateData, and boilerplate is still needed whether you provide TD or not (exactly for editors like me). Legroom (talk) 10:00, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's hard to guess what's the matter just by words, better link your wiki/sidebar page. Legroom (talk) 10:00, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, you know I thought I could only use the Visual Editor, but this TemplateData stuff really is easier in in the Source Editor... when I know what the code does, anyway.
Here's my wiki Main Page. Now that I think about it having the headers be links isn't TOO horrible but I wonder why it randomly flipped... on an unrelated note a Captcha showed up while I was trying to send this comment but the image wouldn't load until I turned off uBlock, "Enhanced Tracking Protection" on Firefox, and switched to the Source Editor... anyway thank you for replying!!
edit: or was it because after all the copy pasting i did the link disappeared lol Woshixiaodegou (talk) 15:00, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Edits sometimes not displayed[edit | edit source]

I have a problem with my wiki. Sometimes when I edit a page (so I'm not talking about new pages, but old ones that I edit) the rest of my community can't see the edit. For some reason the old version of that same page remains. I can see the edits immediately from my device (laptop), but at the same time I also noticed that these edits are not displayed on my smartphone. I even tried to radically delete the page, but even so my smartphone still displays it as if it was still existent.

I've noticed that if I log in the problem is solved, but for those who don't have an account it remains. Has anybody ever had the same problem? PS: Curiously this problem doesn't always show up, just in some cases, and this is even more puzzling. ACalzoni (talk) 09:45, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

There are two places where pages are cached: Mediawiki and Varnish. If you are logged out, both Mediawiki and Varnish caches are used. If you are logged in, only Mediawiki's cache is used. You can either:
  • Tell Varnish to purge its cache by sending an HTTP request to the URL with the PURGE HTTP method (this will only work per cache server that you hit) (this sentence may or may not make sense to you)
  • As a workaround, add ?nocache=randomvalueshere or &nocache=randomvalueshere to the end of the URL

default password after wiki creation?[edit | edit source]

A few days ago I created "respekt.miraheze.org" and was busy with entering content since then. I do not remember to have input a password so far, and now I want to log out to test access rights -- -- but how do I log in again? My browser (Firefox) did not record a password for "respekt.miraheze.org" and I don't want to be locked out of my newly created website.

PS: I am additionally confused by trying to change my password (in order to know it definitely): a screenshot of the respective panel popping up is attached -- below the field for the password there appears another wiki, where I am admin, "isac.miraheze.org", but disappears with the first key stroke (and thus is not visible on the screenshot). Walther (talk) 09:48, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

User accounts on Miraheze-hosted wikis all use the same username and password, so you should be able to login with the same username and password you used when creating an account here. For more information about this, see Single user login.
(I, uh, don't see a screenshot attached) BlankEclair (talk) 09:59, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I put my concerns aside and now have two different usernames/passwords on our two wikis.
This request is done for my side. Thanks for the help! Walther (talk) 15:06, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Declined wiki request[edit | edit source]

Hello, I have requested a wiki (2D Weather Sandbox Wiki) in the requests queue but it has been declined due to inactivity. I am unfortunately soft-locked out of my original account User:Cyclonial due to that every time time I log in, I get logged out immediately after (see here). May I make another request? I'm making sure because duplicate requests are not allowed. Cyclonial II (talk) 20:32, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You do not need to request a new one. You can reopen it by answering on the questions and update your original description. Kind regards,   Rodejong   💬 Talk ✉️ Email  📝 Edits   Auth →  21:43, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying your original wiki was declined due to inactivity? Do you have its subdomain? If it was originally at the subdomain in your request, it has been hard-deleted and no longer exists (unless you can find it on archive.org).
Your request was declined because you did not respond to questions regarding your request. You can answer the questions in your request and then use the "Edit request" tab to reopen it and put it back in the review queue.
Jph2 (talk) 21:48, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, my wiki request was declined because I couldn't answer questions on there. Sorry for the confusion. Its subdomain is 2dws but here's the thing — I can log into that account for only a second before getting automatically logged back out again, and thus I cannot modify nor comment on my request. User:Cyclonial is not globally locked so I shouldn't have problems logging in with my username and password. This has been ongoing for a while and others have experienced it as well. A related issue was even brought up on Phabricator a couple of months ago (I cannot link it due to the CAPTCHA not working) and in meta. People on Discord have also been saying the same thing. Cyclonial II (talk) 22:23, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok. You can open a new request and, since you can see the questions in the original request, please try to address them in your new request. Thank you so much for asking about this before opening a new request. And I'm sorry for your account troubles. Unfortunately, I'm not tech enough to be able to help there. – Jph2 (talk) 23:35, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
CentralAuth is a pain in the buttocks and there are fractures which have made it worse to use as time has gone on, unlikely to see true resolution until a future MediaWiki upgrade, apologies for the inconvenience. Usurping the original name may be possible in this case if you'd rather ditch the II, unless it's no biggie. --raidarr (💬) 12:05, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

(Just rambling) Why is access to Miraheze slow in China now?[edit | edit source]

Speed limit? access is OK, but that is based on cache and survivor bias. When I visit, I always complain about the current speed, which used to be much faster than it is now. 麦田麦林 (Maitian MaiLin >w< talk12:25, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Servers aren't ready to serve more Asian users. I sometimes complain about speed. Gonna wait for WikiTide to deploy servers for Southeast Asia. Ahri.boy (talk) 03:31, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This may not be entirely correct as I am not SRE, but we've had a lot of trouble with DDOSing coming from China geographically and it's possible connections from that way are more rate limited as a result. As server expansion goes our options are limited and likely our best bet would be modifications to CloudFlare to make delivery more serviceable. --raidarr (💬) 12:02, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
According to Fundraiser: "We currently have 2 content proxies in Canada and 2 in the United Kingdom. Our goal is to add another one to both Canada and the United Kingdom and to also launch 2 either in Singapore or Australia to improve Asian connectivity (we will analyze which makes the biggest impact on Asian users connectivity and open it accordingly)."
From my experience, browsing wikis while logged out can give very swift responses thanks to an extra layer of caching (Varnish), though this is moot when you're browsing while logged in, since that level of caching is disabled. BlankEclair (talk) 14:04, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

JavaScript parse error (scripts need to be valid ECMAScript 5): Parse error: Missing ; before statement[edit | edit source]

I'm trying to add Javascript to mh:rainverse:MediaWiki:Common.js that removes a class from an element when it is clicked, but whenever I try to do so, I get the following error:

JavaScript parse error (scripts need to be valid ECMAScript 5): Parse error: Missing ; before statement in file 'MediaWiki:Common.js' on line 2

For reference, the code currently is:

window.addEventListener("click", function(event) {
    let spoiler = event.target.closest(".spoiler");
    if (spoiler) {
        spoiler.classList.remove("spoiler");
    }
}, {passive: true});

I tried removing the semicolons (I was getting desperate), but it didn't help, nor did enabling strict mode. BlankEclair (talk) 12:49, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It was because I used let, which appears to only be in ECMAScript 6 according to Can I Use. BlankEclair (talk) 13:04, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In my experience, it's generally best to just ignore the errors on JS and CSS pages and boldly click "save". The standard has moved on, Mediawiki just doesn't know about it yet. Chrome 49 and Firefox 44 are positively ancient at this point, and have support. Labster (talk) 20:33, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It did let me save (as seen in the page history), and it did not throw a warning or error when saving. Instead, the code was substituted at runtime into something like console.error("JavaScript parse error (scripts need to be valid ECMAScript 5): Parse error: Missing ; before statement in file 'MediaWiki:Common.js' on line 2");. Deleting of my wiki (and thanks everyone)[edit | edit source]

I would particularly like to thank the people who finance Meraheze and those which enable its operation, allowing people like me to write there while feeling strong emotions, especially those of avoiding at best having your wiki deleted or at worst being sent to a federal prison.

Indeed, if writing provides a certain benefit, writing can also create harm and lead to unpleasant feelings. To avoid this, I have always made sure to write in complete compliance with the legislation in force.

As of today, for personal reasons, I am no longer able to maintain my wiki for a period of time that I cannot define. If the law were to change tomorrow, what I wrote yesterday that was still legal could become illegal and place Meraheze and me at risk of legal action.

So, to avoid this, I vote/ask in advance for the deletion of my wiki politis.miraheze.org. In the meantime, I placed it in "inactive" mode to avoid vandalism.

Good luck to everyone ! MarceldeParis (talk) 06:28, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Good luck to you, sorry to see you go. The wiki is deleted as requested.
Note that the close setting should be used as inactive does not prevent editing/vandalism - not a problem, just a note for future observance. --raidarr (💬) 12:01, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You've been creating a lot of threads on this subject recently; multiple related threads may disrupt actual converstaion, but no harm done. Tali64³ (talk | contributions) 15:25, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's fine but what I will say is that you're not likely to get a lot from the community portal for an editing base; being established in marvel fan communities or circles can go a much longer way to finding the desired audience. --raidarr (💬) 15:29, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wiki request contains "invalid character"[edit | edit source]

I am trying to request a wiki, but every time I try to submit it, I get an error saying "Your wiki request contains an invalid character. Correct that and try again. If you need help, contact us." I didn't really know what it meant, but I assumed that I had typed an unsupported special character somewhere. So, I looked through the request and tried to remove any special characters that could possibly trigger the message, but no matter what I did, I kept getting the same error. What could I do to fix this? Xboy1 (talk) 20:07, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Subdomains may only contain the characters A-Z and 0-9; nothing else (not even dashes) is permitted. Tali64³ (talk | contributions) 20:10, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The subdomain originally had a dash, but I removed it and I still get the error. Xboy1 (talk) 20:30, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hmm...what subdomain are you trying to register? Tali64³ (talk | contributions) 20:43, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
lostrealities.miraheze.org (I only included the first part with the actual subdomain in the request) Xboy1 (talk) 21:01, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Xboy1: When you request the wiki, (at "Select a subdomain for your wiki:") do you write "lostrealities" or "lostrealities.miraheze.org"?  Kind regards,   Rodejong   💬 Talk ✉️ Email  📝 Edits   Auth →  22:13, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just "lostrealities" Xboy1 (talk) 22:26, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Could you answer the following questions please, so we can determine if the wiki would be approvable? We would then be able to create it and attach your account to it.
1. subdomain is "lostrealities"
2. What will be the name of this wiki?
3. What language will be used?
4. What category and purpose did you choose from the dropdown menus?
5. Is the wiki to be marked as private? (If yes, why)
6. Is/are this wiki's main subject(s) living people or real-life groups? (If yes, will you respect their privacy and write about them from a neutral point of view?)
7 Tell us in at least two sentences the topic and scope of your wiki
 Kind regards,   Rodejong   💬 Talk ✉️ Email  📝 Edits   Auth →  22:43, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Subdomain: lostrealities(.miraheze.org)
Name: Lost Realities
Language: en - English
Category: Fantasy
Private: No
About real people: No
Purpose: Fictional worldbuilding/constructed world wiki
Lost Realities is a fictional collaborative project about four different dimensions known as "Realities." Each Reality is based on different aspects of dreams. The wiki will document the many strange anomalies and spaces in these Realities. Entering these Realities are often accidental, although many courageous explorers go to them intentionally in an attempt to uncover their secrets. The first Reality is our own universe, representing normality in dreams. This part of the wiki will be documented by strange, anomalous events and enigmas that aren't fully understood. It will also document important in-universe groups and people. The second Reality is based on the surreal and nonsensical aspects of dreams. Some areas will look like places and structures on Earth, although they are altered heavily with intense non-Euclidean geometry. The most extreme examples are completely abstract spaces, like reality itself is breaking down. The third reality is based on the isolation and unnerving aspects of dreams. The Reality also looks like places from Earth, but mostly empty and stripped from any purpose that they could have served. Any other lifeforms are impossible to encounter, and it is impossible to exit. The fourth Reality combines all of these traits into one. They may be present at different times in different places, or be there all at once.
I have a slightly more detailed version of this if necessary, but I'm worried that this version is already too long, lol. Xboy1 (talk) 23:26, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Make a welcome page and template for a Wiki[edit | edit source]

I want to make a wiki with two important formal elements: - a home page that summarizes the content. This would look like the Help Center or a project home page on Wikipedia. For example:

https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Help_center https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portail:Bois_et_for%C3%AAt

- once you're inside my page, most of them should always have the same shape. How can I make sure I have a default shape? How do I create a model?

All that seems basic but I can't find a good explanation of it. Patrick C (talk) 15:07, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

They stored the system in MediaWiki. As your wiki is private and can't read French, it is impossible for me to get it working. So have created a template alternative. I have chosen the Wikipedia design as with the colour underline you might like to coordinate with the pages.

Template:Main Page Item (this is the colour underline section)

<div style="background-color: #FFFFFF; flex: 1 1 auto; border: 1px solid {{{border|#F0F0E0}}}; border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: 0 0 0.3rem #F0F0E0; margin: .1em .5em .9em .5em; padding: 1.2rem; vertical-align: top; width: auto;">
<div style="letter-spacing: .01em; display: block; border-bottom: solid 0.2rem {{{underline|ForestGreen}}}; margin: -0.4rem 0rem 0.5rem 0rem;"> {{{header}}} </div>
<div style="background: inherit; border-radius: 0; padding: 7px 7px 0 7px;"> {{{body}}} </div>
</div>

Template:Main Page Columns (this is the 2 level columns)

<div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; flex-wrap: wrap;">
<div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex: 3 1 25em;">
{{{left|}}}
</div>
<div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex: 3 1 25em;">
{{{right|}}}
</div>
</div>

Example

{{Main Page Columns
 | left =
{{Main Page Item
}}

 | right =
{{Main Page Item
 | border    = gray

How to enable flow pages on my wiki[edit | edit source]

As mentioned above, I cannot access the official MediaWiki website at present because I use IPV4 in Chinese Mainland. I need help-Yrr (talk)

What do you mean by flow pages? As in the StructuredDiscussions/Flow extension used for replying on talk (and similar) pages? BlankEclair (talk) 03:48, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@BlankEclair Yes.-Yrr (talk) 07:11, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It appears to be deprecated, so you'll need to go ask on Steward requests/Restricted changes for it. Unless if you have a specific reason to use it though, then you probably could enable Discussion tools (and its dependencies) on mh:wb:Special:ManageWiki/extensions (assuming I guessed your wiki correctly).
(Also, it appears that wiki already has it enabled? Actually, it has both extensions enabled) - BlankEclair (talk) 07:18, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, it's not recommended to use Flow anymore, the reason it's still there it's because some wikis on Miraheze use it from old days, and they most likely will be forced to change someday. Discussion tools is used on this very page, for example. Legroom (talk) 11:36, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

WikiTide Foundation Community Director Election[edit | edit source]

Hello everyone,

From April 11 to May 9, the Miraheze community voted in the first-ever election of Community Directors. Nearly 300 people turned out to vote, which is a very strong start!

The results are as follows:

  1. Reception123: 166 support, 27 oppose, 97 abstain (86.0%; 139 net support)
    Agent Isai: 164 support, 36 oppose, 87 abstain (82.0%; 128 net support)
  2. NotAracham: 167 support, 43 oppose, 77 abstain (79.5%; 124 net support)

Agent Isai dropped out of the election on 24 April. As a result, Reception123 and NotAracham have been elected for two-year terms ending 31 May 2026. Congratulations!

Thank you to 1108-Kiju, Void, and Raidarr for their assistance in running the election, and for the hundreds of community members turning out to vote. Harej (Miraheze) (talk) 16:53, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Apply for CheckUser and Oversighter permissions on the local wiki[edit | edit source]

A few days ago, our local wiki held an election and elected two CheckUsers and Oversighters. The election process and the number of votes were in line with the guidelines. How can I help them apply for permissions. --高风亮节 (talk) 14:54, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

First of all, we'd need the link to the election and wiki. SR/P would be the correct venue to request the permissions if you are sure it's all up to code. Secondly, any one with CU/OS must have a Non Disclosure Agreement with the Foundation. You would need to discuss with the board if Stewards approve. Additionally, as stated on the respective policy pages, CU/OS elections are to be overseen by Stewards, something that to my knowledge hasn't been done. If it has, feel free to link to the relevant election pages and what Stewards oversaw it. ╚PixDeVl╝ (Talk Contributions CentralAuth) 15:05, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Alternative to Replace Text from Admin Links extension[edit | edit source]

As the heading suggests, is there an alternative to the very useful (but now removed) Replace Text from the Admin Links extension. Before it was removed it performed brilliantly to replace text with no effort from the user. Without it, replacing text on hundreds of pages is incredibly tedious. If there is an alternative, I would be keen to try it as I have a lot of pages requiring small replace text edits. Borderman (Talk) 16:07, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

MassEditRegex is the closest alternative available in Miraheze; knowledge of regex is required in order to be able to utilize it. Tali64³ (talk | contributions) 16:54, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks @Tali64³, however I know nothing about regex. It’s all nonsense to me and probably too complicated for most people who don’t have the inclination to learn “Regular expression techniques” that have been “developed in theoretical computer science and formal language theory.” As soon as I read that I switched off. Why was the very easy-to-use Replace Text removed anyway? It made life so much easier. I used it for years without issue. Borderman (Talk) 18:11, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If my recollection is correct, Replace Text was removed due to incompatibility with revision compression (which Miraheze uses in order to keep space usage down). Tali64³ (talk | contributions) 18:21, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok, that makes sense but haven’t we progressed with space and speed since the merger? Seems like a step back to not have a simple text replace function that doesn’t rely on complicated regular expressions. I’ll have a look again when I get chance but the chances of using Regex in my case is slim. Borderman (Talk) 06:52, 21 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How do I align infoboxes to the right?[edit | edit source]

On all the other wikis I've seen, the infoboxes are always aligned to the right. But I noticed when importing one from the Miraheze Dev Wiki, it doesn't align! It may be that it's a SimpleInfobox, but the normal ones don't seem like they are aligned to the right by default either. So, I'm not sure what to do to make it align to the right. Thanks in advance! PawnShop75 (talk) 23:23, 20 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I usually just add float:right inside the table -
{| style=“float:right;”
Then add your margins in the same way to provide enough white space along the bottom and left edges, say 10px, with zero for the top and right edges. You can also add the same code to a class either in template styles or in your skin’s css. Borderman (Talk) 06:45, 21 May 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@PawnShop75
For it to align right, you need to add the following code to the "MediaWiki:Common.css"
.floatright {
margin: 0 0 0.5em 0.5em;
clear: right;
float: right;
}
.floatleft {
margin: 0 0.5em 0.5em 0;
float: left;
clear: left;
}
