Per this. Cactusalt (talk) 08:48, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Cactusalt:,
I'm not going to add to the other thread.
I had a similar issue where I would be logged off soon after visiting. I don't know if this is a similar issue. Which site is it? I could try logging into it and let you know if the site logs me off.
There were no issues with the buttons but sometimes when the page doesn't load right, the buttons do look out of place.

@Imamy This one Cactus2 (talk) 11:40, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cactus2: Oh Wow, sorry to hear that.
It has happened rarely but when I see the buttons out of place or when it seems to list all the links instead of providing graphics, I notice that that's due to poor connectivity (took too long or something/timed out).
Are you able to sign into your account on login Wiki? Are you able to update your login Wiki User Page?
Perhaps it won't help but just wondering if putting something on the Userpage will get it to work.

@Cactus2 and Cactusalt:
Are you still getting booted when you try to edit?
- Are you using VPN?
- Does this happen on every type of computer? eg Windows 10, Windows 11 , Mac, Chromebook, Linux?
- Are you using Mobile or Desktop View? That's an option at the bottom of the page.
- Are you getting booted with Source edit or Visual edit?

I haven't received the link to my wiki[edit | edit source]

My request for a wiki was approved however I have not received a link yet - I am not sure how to begin work on my wiki. I cannot view my request in the request queue either. Can anyone help?

The feedback I receieved for my request was: "Request approved. Pretty good. Purpose and description are a bit vague, but there is nonetheless a clear enough purpose, scope, and/or topic here. Please ensure your wiki complies with all aspects of the Content Policy at all times and that it does not deviate from the approved scope or else your wiki will be closed. Thank you for choosing Miraheze!" StewartGroundTruth (talk) 17:32, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The request is available at https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:RequestWikiQueue/50093 with the wiki URL listed as groundtruthforestaction.miraheze.org. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 17:37, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Apologies for making this topic, my wiki has not been created yet, the link to the request is:

It has already been approved, looking forward. Cheers! Arcanine621 (talk) 07:48, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why not enable google analytics?[edit | edit source]

Is there any reason for not being able to use google analytics? or any analytics that are better then console, and the special page one?

it seems like an easy thing to add, but i have no clue :P Bisti (talk) 21:01, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Miraheze already hosts it's analytics with Matomo. Google Analytics is a privacy nightmare that collects far too much data and cannot be added to the CSP and would face issues with the Privacy Policy. Beyond the numbers in Special:Analytics, you can ask a member of tech team for more in-depth info. ╚PixDeVl╝ (Talk Contributions CentralAuth) 22:07, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed - Google is far too common across the Internet nowadays; the last thing we need is more Google, especially on a website ran by a non-profit organization. Tali64³ (talk | contributions) 22:15, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thats fair when it comes to google, its really the main thing im missing on miraheze as a data nerd :P
Are there any plans on making the special page more detailed? Or give the admins access to what the tech team can see? Bisti (talk) 22:46, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Special:Analytics gives you some access. It doesn't let you see per-page statistics but shows some aggregate data. Last I remember, there was an impediment to showing more data due to an issue with the API but that seems to be resolved so now all it takes is someone who knows how to code having time to implement additions to the extension. Need bureaucrat rights to create co-admin[edit | edit source]

I'm trying to add a co-admin to my wiki https://groundtruthforestaction.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page. However, my account is not a "bureaucrat" type so I can't add admins. How can I rectify this? StewartGroundTruth (talk) 21:42, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are a bureaucrat. The co-admin must have an account, have visited the wiki while logged in, and be assigned rights using mh:groundtruthforestaction:Special:UserRights. You can see what accounts have bureaucrat access by visiting mh:groundtruthforestaction:Special:ListUsers/bureaucrat. --raidarr (💬) 22:53, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Здравствуйте, как настроить предпросмотр на странице своей вики, чтобы в предпросмотре страницы отображался не весь начальный текст?[edit | edit source]

Попробовал единственный найденный способ — не получилось, что я делаю не так? Kompdi5741 (talk) 14:27, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Kompdi5741:
Your site is set to private. Also, I am using a translator. Please excuse any misinterpretation.
Question: Hello, how do I set up a preview on my wiki page so that the page preview doesn't show all the initial text?
 • What type of preview?
 • Does the preview appear when the mouse pointer hovers the text?
 • Is this about Templates?
 • Did you want to edit small sections of the page?
--- Imamy (talk) 05:07, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
 • mh:dev Templates can be used to display content stored in other pages.
For example,
Source code Comment will display message:  Comment:.
 • To create the Template, select a unique name for the Template such as My Placeholder. If the file has never been created, then you will see a red link that looks like this: Template:My Placeholder.
Imamy (talk) 05:15, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
 • To break up the page into sections,
mw:Help:Formatting#Level_2 To insert Edit buttons, use the equal sign = like this: ==Section Title==.
In order for this to work, must start the line with = sign in Source Edit. I don't use Visual Edit so I am unfamiliar with how that is done with Visual Edit.
For example ====My Placeholder==== will look like this:

My Placeholder[edit | edit source]

Requests for Feedback: Mirapedia[edit | edit source]

Hello fellow Miraheze community, I would like to propose an idea for a wiki: Mirapedia. The wiki would feature Miraheze's experiances, history, arguements, important users and more in a neutral point of view.

The reason I have brought this matter to the community portal is because of a few things:

 • Should this even be on Miraheze? I'm not exactly sure, but perhaps maybe our high-ranking volunteers have a problem with this, as perhaps a neutral point of view could make Miraheze look bad. The wiki could also point out tech issues that the tech team could help with, I guess? Also, if this wiki is created, I will make a strict policy NOT to cover current security issues.
 • Any users interested? In order to make this a truly complete encyclopedia about everything Miraheze, including it's history, we will need editors that have been Mirahezians much longer than me. I know most of the time wiki advertising is useless; but it's rare that we get a scope that encompasses everyone on Meta and the platform. Also, I know that we have a history page, but I mean everything (relevant, of course).
 • Could this be an official project? I know we have official Miraheze wikis, and an encyclopedia on all of Miraheze and WikiTide perhaps fulfills an official purpose, no?

Thanks for reading this, and I hope to create a meaningful wiki with you guys. 🐙Pawn🐙 (💬Talk💬/✅CentralAuth✅) 20:54, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IMO besides BLP issues of covering actual people, Miraheze history does exist and should be exapaned(maybe split into more pages if needed). I don't think we should have a wiki on our site about our site. Also not doing NPOV because it makes us look bad is kinda silly and also looks bad. It's an interesting idea, though; if anyone else has comments, I'll read 'em. (short reply as I'm busy at the moment). ╚PixDeVl╝ (Talk Contributions CentralAuth) 21:19, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PawnShop75:
I just wanted a wiki that people will actually edit.
I've seen a lot of great sites. However, encouraging and inviting others to contribute is a completely different take to a Wiki's topic.
From what I've seen, any topic will work.
Focusing on managing and eliminating deterrents such as...
eg Good writing will scare off contributions of not so good writing.
eg When the contributor's writing does not immediately post (eg goes into Pending Review, eg site restricts posts to members only), the contributor will go somewhere else.
I'd be willing to critique your sites if you feel a more specific illustration of what I'm describing is needed. I really don't think its the topic. Otherwise we would not desire to create so many wikis.

mh:mirahezium - What do you think of this site?
I fell in love with this Wiki just for its concept.
--- Imamy (talk) 23:44, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My five cents
I don't believe in writing about yourself. To be taken serious, it rather be written by others. Neutrality is important, and writing about yourself is always biased. It's better if another project spends time writing about Miraheze. If we write about ourself, it will not been taken serious by other communities. So I would not recommend such wiki's  Kind regards,   Rodejong   💬 Talk ✉️ Email  📝 Edits   Auth →  23:57, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Besides... There are probably a lot of users who don't want to be part of a written history. Some have been varnished/left Miraheze, and some arguments are better left in the past, in stead of being written about ... which surely will restart the debate again, as some will feel misrepresented/misunderstood/misinterpreted. So .. Better not go there.  Kind regards,   Rodejong   💬 Talk ✉️ Email  📝 Edits   Auth →  00:01, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fully agree with Ro on both of these. ╚PixDeVl╝ (Talk Contributions CentralAuth) 01:26, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hiding offensive messages in byte count[edit | edit source]

The wiki "dlfm.miraheze.org" suffered from vandalism a few weeks ago. It seems that the spammer has been hiding offensive messages in byte count (the red and green numbers). Could you hide the numbers? 49.140.188.213 08:06, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Explain XKCD Wiki experienced the same kind of vandalism just now. Could you have them handle the matter? 240E:804:21:BF2F:A48E:C99D:E6B8:9A44 11:54, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please help. 49.140.191.192 05:25, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not exactly sure how you hide offensive content in numbers, but this should be resolvable by the local admins, who can simply RevDel. If there are no active admins, CVT can delete, but that should be on the proper channels, SR/M or emailing CVT[at]miraheze[dot]org. You should also provide links to the edits. Also, Explain XKCD isn't hosted on Miraheze, we can't help with revdeling there. ╚PixDeVl╝ (Talk Contributions CentralAuth) 10:18, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@49.140.188.213: I'm afraid that's not how it works as far as I'm aware. All they can do is revision delete the offensive diff in question by either one, or all of them. Numbers cannot by any means be deleted as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong). DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 12:04, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You reverted the spam on DLFM wiki, but unfortunately left offensive numbers in your contributions list. I wish those numbers could be removed. 49.140.188.66 01:26, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There comes a point to draw the line for offensive content, imo seeing offensive messages in byte counts is where it should be drawn. Nothing that merits global action. --raidarr (💬) 11:32, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Align left[edit | edit source]

@Maggsy, I did this for you on your wiki, I hope it's not a problem; all I had to do was change the table align from center to left. Have a nice day!  BZPN (talk)   18:43, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, but I know how to do that ;)
What I really wanted, was to get only that column left. I want the rest to be centered :) Maggsy (talk) 08:55, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Allow uploading files with .bsg file extension, making an archive to work with articles[edit | edit source]

This is the wiki: https://besiegetech.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page This is the archive page: https://besiegetech.miraheze.org/wiki/Machine_File_Archive_-_Besiege_Vehicle_%26_Mechanisms I want to: Upload files of .bsg format to the archive page, so others can download them and learn. The problem: The .bsg file format is not allowed for upload. You can: Put .bsg format in upload whitelist for this wiki.

In more detail: I want to make an archive for support material relevant to articles. Unfortunately, this support material is not in a format allowed for upload. The support material uses the .bsg format, the format for machine files in the game Besiege. .bsg files range from a few kB for small machines, to about a mB for very detailed machines. Most uploads are barebones examples and will not exceed 100kB. Caturary (talk) 12:28, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Caturary:
Couldn't these files be distributed in some other way or from some other site?
--- Imamy (talk) 04:15, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand the reservations, however it is most convenient for readers who expect the page or wiki to contain the relevant files.
I have already provided recommendations for user safety on the given archive page, the file format is transparent and easy to check since it is essentially plaintext XML.
The problem with Steam: The Steam Workshop features tens of thousands of pages of machines, but has a one thousand page browse limit. Unless you know the exact terms to search, most remain practically inaccessible, and undiscoverable.
The problem with Discord: Discord lacks search capability for messages containing files with the Besiege machine extension.
If it is still an issue, I can proceed to place the files on Steam instead. I have no problems with either option, but as mentioned I believe it would be inconvenient for readers. Caturary (talk) 03:16, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you'd like to add a new file extension, you can either make a configuration pull request as detailed quite well in User:PixDeVl/TC 101, or open a task on Phorge to request one of our volunteers do so. ╚PixDeVl╝ (Talk Contributions CentralAuth) 11:17, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

More description for BFDI: Tamazight[edit | edit source]

Additional description: a competition show with people participating in a contest, each episode that loses receives elimination to an elimination area and rejoins when they have more votes, wins for the prize and wins and sees the good use. They have the only seasons, and they are 5 seasons. This is a new language wiki. In the third season there were no contests, the episode was in 2016 and is before season 5, and they have the new voices. Can't get category sort key to work?[edit | edit source]

To customise the category sort key do (this would be sorted under "S"). On my wiki I've got e.g.

but in a parent category all these are sorted under "S"? Purging the page/category pages doesn't make a difference. Rob Kam (talk) 19:08, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Rob Kam:
I set up a test scenario. Should the results look like this?
