Name space number

What is the name of the special page where you can see the list of namespace numbers on the local wiki?--辞書城主 (talk) 13:41, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

@辞書城主: Is it Special:AllPages? Hispano76 (talk) 18:10, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
Alternately you could try editing a page in a namespace and adding the text {{NAMESPACENUMBER}} to the page and hitting preview. The number it generates will be the namespace number. Otherwise, if you want to access a full list of namespaces, you can use the API with a query like the one at . -- Void Whispers 18:14, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
This was because the newsletter needed a newsletter namespace number or a local-only namespace number to specify the newsletter in the abuse filter. They have already been resolved. Thank you very much.--辞書城主 (talk) 00:34, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Electron PDF extension

Hi, since we've removed the duplicate option of installing Electron. The collection extension is required for the electron extension to work, so enabling just Collection will install electron alongside. If your wiki used only Electron and not Collection, please enable Collection instead as the option to install Electron independently has been removed. Paladox (talk) 19:43, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

My account was being renamed but it stopped getting upgraded 3/4 of the way

I renamed myself from AnimalLovingGuy to ScrewSociety, but since it updated my name on each wiki in alphabetical order by the wiki's name, it stopped at Reception Flame Wars Wiki because the wiki closed down. As a result I lost access to my account a few days ago, and I really want to get it back. Can you please help me?

@ScrewSociety: I apologize for this issue, I have fixed it and you should now have access to the account. Reception123 (talk) (C) 08:26, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

How can I become an autoconfirmed user?

(this was copied and pasted) I made an account on Miraheze a year ago. On Atrocious Youtubers Wiki, I am still not an autoconfirmed user and it pisses me off. It says I need 10 edits yet I'm not allowed to edit anything on that wiki. Can someone please help me?

Edit: I contacted an admin. Hopefully I'm granted the abilities to edit. User:SaltylakeXD

@SaltylakeXD: Autoconfirmed status is up to each wiki to decide, not anything global. You should contact the administrators or bureaucrats there to request to edit. Reception123 (talk) (C) 08:23, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

How do I change the style of mobile Infoboxes to that of Wikipedia?

Hey there, so I’m trying to format my infoboxes on the mobile site of my wiki to look exactly like Wikipedia’s mobile infoboxes. Does anyone know how that is possible? Let me know please, thank you! RuffianLewis (talk) 14:46, 16 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello and welcome! Sec. 4.4 of our FAQ may be helpful. Spıke (talk)22:00 16-Jan-2020

I did try that, however it looks different. Is it theme-related possibly? What am I missing? Could I maybe have the mobile theme on my wiki changed? Also, I can provide the link to Infobox my wiki as well as a link to the Wikipedia infobox - the difference is noticeable. RuffianLewis (talk) 07:39, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

How to transclude one wiki in another?

I have a Miraheze wiki about synth DIY but I want it to include something about electronic theory. That subject is of wider interest than to just synth DIY. So if I have another Miraheze wiki solely about elementary electronic theory, how can I get the pages of that wiki to be included in the synth DIY and/or other wikis, (except perhaps for Main Page)? --Rob Kam (talk) 11:01, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

You can have the wiki which you want to include on other wikis added to the interwiki list with the interwiki transclusion option enabled. This will require that the setting Enable scary transclusion (under Special:ManageWiki/settings) is enabled, and that the new interwiki prefix has transclusion enabled. -- Void Whispers 17:59, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
How to specify in the source wiki which section(s) of the transcluded page display and which are excluded in the wiki(s) linking to it? --Rob Kam (talk) 09:53, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
I believe it should work the same way as standard controls, such as the tags <noinclude></noinclude> and <onlyinclude></onlyinclude>. -- Void Whispers 17:36, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, this seems to work. Next problem is how to be able to insert some other text into a transcluded page, if it's even possible? --Rob Kam (talk) 22:58, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

NewUserMessage Signature

I recently added the NewUserMessage extension to my wiki. Unfortunately, it always includes a signature below the template, like so:

-- New user message (talk) 00:00, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

I think it looks unappealing and unnecessary. I've tried leaving MediaWiki:Newusermessage-signatures blank, but the signature appears anyway. How do I get rid of it? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc (talk) 23:00, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

Does anyone have any suggestions? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc (talk) 05:13, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
@Gfdgsgxgzgdrc: I've done my best to fix the issue, and this is the final result. Although it looks fine, I have to tell you that you still need to close the div tag manually, and that you cannot remove the timestamp no matter what (meaning adding div tag in your signature will result in timestamp written out of the box).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 07:50, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks so much for all your help! I really appreciate it.
But now I have a different problem. When I try to log in to my wiki, I get an error saying "The supplied credentials could not be authenticated". When I try "Forgot your password?", it says "The password reset was not handled. Maybe no provider was configured?". Oddly, I can log in here, but I keep getting logged out every few minutes. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc (talk) 06:06, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
Hmm, I guess I need to fix that problem. Say, I'll revert MediaWiki:Newusermessage-editor, and you can create an account that is only used for the purpose. Then, set its signature to whatever you want, and add its name to the page. That should fix the issue.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 09:06, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

What setting or extension made my link displays as its redirect target?

In, if I add a link to a redirect page, then it displays as its redirect target page name. For example, in, "Template:Documentation" will redirect to "Template:文档", then if I merely input "[[Template:Documentation]]", it will display as its redirect target "Template:文档". See my sandbox. How to fix it? --SolidBlock (talk) 08:38, 25 January 2020 (UTC)

I don't understand, you're the one who made the redirection It would only be to change the link or remove it. @SolidBlock:. Hispano76 (talk) 21:53, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
The redirection is not incorrect. What's incorrect is how the link displays. The link should have displayed as itself regardless of the redirection. --SolidBlock (talk) 01:27, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
It causes it mw:Extension:Display_Title ostensibly @SolidBlock: Hispano76 (talk) 01:37, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. I uninstalled the ext and the link is normal now. --SolidBlock (talk) 01:55, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

Wikimedia Issues

Hello all,

We regret to inform users that Instant Commons has been temporarily disabled Instant Commons on all Miraheze Wikis. Please help to undo some text weirdness on template wiki

@Reception123:@Ahmsaqib:Moved from Stewards' noticeboard#Please_help_to_fix_Recent_changes_page_on_template_wiki.

Somehow templatewiki has a navbar defacing Recent changes and maybe other pages. I can't figure out how to remove it. Please could a steward fix this. --Rob Kam (talk) 15:28, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

@Rob Kam: I can't seem to reproduce this issue. Could you please either provide a screenshot or tell us what browser (and version) you are using? Also for future reference please note that Stewards do not deal with such technical issues so Community noticeboard would be a better place for this type of request in the future. Reception123 (talk) (C) 15:48, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. Okay, next time I will ask at Community noticeboard. Here'a a capture
--Rob Kam (talk) 16:12, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
It's some setting @Ahmsaqib: changed. At the time I asked him to undo it but I don't think he knew how. --Rob Kam (talk) 23:21, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
@Rob Kam: Yes. It was me. But problem is, first time when I edited this page, there was no interface admin program on any wiki. But NOW (and obviously when i tried to edit second time) this is here. So that, nobody can't be able to change special pages (like Mediawiki or css) without Interface Admin, Bureaucrat or Steward right. If you want to change those pages later, you should request for interface adminship. Thanks! আ হ ম সাকিব (T) (C) 23:43, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation @Ahmsaqib:. So that one of the stewards can fix it for us; what exactly in Mediawiki, css or js needs changing to undo the navbar from appearing on Special:RecentChanges please? --Rob Kam (talk) 08:05, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Also needs fixing that when I edit my sandbox I get a message "Content that violates any copyrights will be deleted. Encyclopedic content must be verifiable. Work submitted to Wikipedia can be edited, used, and redistributed—by anyone—subject to certain terms and conditions." and a couple of redlinks "Group notice" and "Page notice". How do I get rid of this?

--Rob Kam (talk) 11:39, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

See MediaWiki:Recentchangestext, MediaWiki:Editpage-head-copy-warn and MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning (and subpages) @Rob Kam: Hispano76 (talk) 22:02, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, via Special:AllMessages I've fixed Special:RecentChanges but haven't yet managed to find how the redlinks "Group notice" and "Page notice" get inserted - they're on any page that gets edited. @Hispano76: --Rob Kam (talk) 23:36, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
I can't reproduce what you see. Anyway, the only thing that mentions "group notice" is the template Editnotice load @Rob Kam: Hispano76 (talk) 00:42, 27 January 2020 (UTC)
It's there with the source editor but not there with the visual editor. --Rob Kam (talk) 09:18, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

Help needed trying to get transcluded templates to function.

If for example say on modularwiki I do {{raw:templatewiki:Cite book}}, I get Script error: No such module "citation/CS1". because instead of including it with the transclusion, it's looking for the module on modularwiki. So then I try to also separately transclude the module with {{raw:templatewiki:Module:Citation/CS1}} I get Error: Lua error at line 1: unexpected symbol near '{'. I could import all the Lua modules that get errored about into modularwiki as required, but when importing there's an option "Include templates" which kind of defeats the point of transcluding templates.

How do I get templates that use Lua modules to transclude from templatewiki to other wikis!? --Rob Kam (talk) 13:50, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Inline SVG usage in MediaWiki?

Hello, can I ask a question about MediaWiki/Miraheze features?

I'm planning to show a map with some clickable inner-wiki links, and created a vector map image file (.svg).

I tried to use <svg> - </svg>tag to show image, but the tag has showed as plain-text, even with {{#tag:}} command.

How can I use inline SVG in MediaWiki? or could anyone tell me the way to implement showing vector image with inner-wiki links (for text object)?--Mtetrag (talk) 14:11, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

MediaWiki documentation says this is possible. The configuration must be changed, upload of SVG files must be enabled, and the person revising the configuration must decide what tool will render the images, or if they will be downloaded and rendered by the browser. Several MW extensions are not supported on Miraheze because they open security holes, and I haven't checked to see if SVG is among them. Spıke (talk)17:38 30-Jan-2020

SVG are blurry instead.

At simpleelectronicswiki the SVG images are displaying blurred, in Google Chrome, IE and Firefox. The point of SVG is that they scale to any size without degradation. How to fix this please? --Rob Kam (talk) 13:04, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

I don't know the exact fix, but the MediaWiki document I link to above says wiki administrators (you or Phabricator?) select one of several methods of rendering SVGs, and these have different levels of quality. Spıke (talk)13:17 6-Feb-2020
Thanks. Miraheze offers ImageMagick or Inkscape but both are blurry. Apparently SVG are rendered to PNG unless NativeSvgHandler extension is installed. --Rob Kam (talk) 15:14, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
Installation of NativeSvgHandler extension is declined as per T4008. It looks like I'm stuck with doing screen capture for now. --Rob Kam (talk) 18:20, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

How to implement modules into Miraheze?

So, I have made a wiki for myself and I keep running into problems with modules. Since this is my first time I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but for my template I got from another wiki, it keeps saying: Script error: No such module “Infobox” and Script error: No such module “documentation”. I went and got the modules from the Miraheze meta or whatever you call it and copied the text, then put it into notepad and saved them as Infobox.xml and documentation.xml. When I tried to import them I got an error saying: Import failed: Expected <mediawiki> tag, got. If anyone knows how to import modules I’ll love to know as I have no clue on what I’m doing. Tasha04 (talk) 04:06, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

It can't be done with copy paste. There's some instructions at Template Wiki's Porting templates page on how it has to be done. --Rob Kam (talk) 12:20, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

Okay, I read what was on that page however the modules still don’t work. All I get when I import a file is the template and no modules. Tasha04 (talk) 20:58, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I recommend starting with a simple module. The Module documentation seems quite complex to me, and the documentation on login wiki contains a lot of red links. So this might not be the ideal starting point for learning Lua, Lily (Lilypond Wiki) 13:35, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

The infobox template on my wiki doesn't work properly

Hi, I've a problem with the template "infobox". Basically, in every other wiki, including wikipedia, the page of the infobox template shows a sort of rectangle with the borders of the infobox. I've pasted the code of the template that I copied from this Wikipedia page (, but in my own wiki the infobox is not shown and if I try to use the template in other pages the infobox appears as a sort of blue rectangle without borders…

How the template should work:

@RhinosF1: How is that not a headquarter? We have been incorporated and having no headquarters is way too illogical. Headquarters can be anything, in my view. OwenFung87 10:22, 19 February 2020 (UTC)
It's the listed address where official things get sent to that are still done by post and used anywhere that needs an address. Is it?

Is it allowed to have Special pages blocked, as in , allowed?

So, if you add a namespace and name it Special, it will override the natural ability to go to actual Special pages and therefore, as the page to manage namespaces is itself a Special page, it blocks Special pages permanently. PiotrGrochowski (talk) 11:19, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

Planned Advanced Rights Policy Change

Hello Everyone,

I intend to create a RfC on or after 28/02/2020 to make the 'Dealing with Online Harassment' guideline a global guidance page.

This will also include the following new requirement for Oversighters, CheckUsers, Stewards, CVT, CoCC members: Users in the listed groups must confirm they have read and agree to follow the 'Dealing with Online Harassment Guidelines'. Failure to follow this guideline may result in action being taken up to and including the removal of rights.

Agreement to the policy must be given within 28 days of the RfC closing (or as approved by the community).

The following line will also be added to the CoC's definition of harassment if approved as part of the RfC: "Repeated failure to handle harassment appropriately and in accordance with guidelines despite warning".

You are encouraged to give feedback or translate the above guidance.

@RhinosF1: I think that you are a very good person. You brought some ideas from the Wikimedia Foundation and applied them here. Miraheze is truly on its way to become connected to Wikimedia. OwenFung87 01:06, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Thanks! These were brought as part of a plan to help support the community better. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 07:00, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Community Directors

I have now closed Community Directors/Election Commission/2019 Election/Vote with a no consensus for any candidate as not enough people voted. Despite 20 users casting votes, they did not all vote for a candidate so more users would have been needed for any single candidate to pass. I'd like to open a thread to determine what the community would like to do next.

Please consider the below options. This is not a formal RfC but will precede one. Dependant on responses, I will book a Miraheze Meetings slot on 21st January to discuss this as well.

  • Should the community lower or remove the minimum number of voters requirement?
  • Is the community in a position to elect Directors at this time?
  • Is an election commission needed?
  • Should voting limits be changed for Directors as well?
  • What about other advanced roles?

Thanks, ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 16:38, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

I would definitely disagree with removing a minimum number for both directors and commissioners, as we must guarantee that many members of the community agree with the proposals. The problem is rather users being informed and understanding the purpose of the role I'd say. Reception123 (talk) (C) 18:00, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
I agree that lowering the numbers would not be ideal. I think we need to work to bring more of the community to meta and possibly look at delaying the Community Directors elections for a period of time. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 18:20, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
I have to argue that, at least for the first year, the Miraheze community is not in a condition to vote for directors. As it appears, a lot of this information has just been sprung on several people, who do not fully understand what it means for Miraheze to be owned by an independently acting corporation. For the sake of smooth establishment of Miraheze Ltd. and to give time for the community to adjust to these changes, I would support holding off on any sort of election outside of the typical Miraheze everyday functions (e.g. stewards, dev, RfXs, and the like). dross (tcg) 01:49, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
I second this. The announcements were circulated, but I doubt most users—especially those new to Miraheze and already busy trying to set up their new wikis—would have the time nor the expertise needed to make informed decisions to vote. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 22:02, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

Motion to delay elections, 1 year

“The Miraheze Community thank the Board of Miraheze Limited for their invitation to nominate users for 3 seats on the Miraheze Board. Following an attempt to partake in this, The Community has opted to decline the invitation for at least 12 months.”

  • In accordance with the Community Directors policy, the standard procedure for voting and definitions applies to this.

  1.  Oppose From my point of view we should announce the winners and be done with this. We don't have to go a whole year without new Community Directors. I don't think it counts that the minimum votes didn't get in before the deadline, three of them still won because they got over 60% support in their favor. WickyHoney (talk) 19:34, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
@WickyHoney: That's not what we voted into policy. The rules for the elections set a minimum number of voters. That was not met. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 19:36, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
@RhinosF1: For one thing it wasn't public enough, and I am sure that the minimum votes would have gone in if it was. I don't want to waste an opportunity such as this just because enough people didn't vote. I wanted to vote, but I wasn't eligible, so there was also that. Just because someone's account is new doesn't mean they can't understand who they should vote for, but I understand why that rule is there; to prevent inexperienced users from doing something hasty, and to prevent sockpuppets from voting. However, it still is kind of unfair that someone's account was to be old enough to vote when the person typing is experienced enough. I still stand that three promotions should be made sooner that later, because from my point of view three won and one lost. The deadline was also too short. WickyHoney (talk) 19:48, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
It was open for the maximum period allowed and advertised across IRC, Discord and wikis via various methods. If you want to adjust policy, open an RfC to change it and ask that the rules are changed in that then open a vote to restart elections. 3 did NOT win under policy unfortunately. These were also only commissioners for the election and I am not aware of anyone who is willing to stand for Director. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 19:52, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
I never said I wanted to change the rules, I was just expressing my opinion. I didn't know it was advertised like that, so I apologize for thinking it wasn't. I still think that Dross lost because they got abstained the most, and that everyone else won because they got the higher support. One problem may be that people on here are just not into politics. I was though, and I guess I just don't like that a satisfying result did not come out of the election. What exactly do you mean by delaying the election anyway? That still confuses me. I am sorry if I sounded rude earlier. WickyHoney (talk) 20:09, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
I concur with Rhinos. Rule of Law says we agree on the card game before we look at our own cards! Wicky, it may seem fine to you to just invent an outcome. Might seem fine to me too if I were a candidate and didn't get a majority but did pretty well compared to the others. Point is, if we don't hold to the announced rules, things could get subjective and contentious. Your point is valid that, despite good announcement and ample time, response was anemic. (I for one am "just not into politics.") The proper response is to amend the rules to better match Miraheze reality, and conduct another vote, perhaps without waiting 1 year. Spıke (talk)02:26 25-Jan-2020
@WickyHoney: We’ll simply have the election close to a year after this vote closes rather than restarting the process until we get somewhere (probably with an RfC) or cancelling it altogether. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 04:45, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
  2. Whoever set the 'unrealistic 20 voter requirement' is the one who should've been admonished, not the community. Cannot support as is unless 'whoever set the unrealistic 20 voter requirement' is willing to lower their expectation -- because it will happen 12 months later. — revi 09:37, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
  3. Personally the election failed on an overly ambitious and unrealistic part - election commission. Why do we really need one? The high appointment criteria of them as well is unrealistic per Revi. Unless we extend an EC to fulfil the role of deciding the results of all elections, I feel it’s a role better of scrapping in turn of having Stewards do their role and manage community elections. John (talk) 14:04, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

Anyone familiar with the Coord template?

Been a while since I posted here but as the heading suggests, is there anyone with any understanding of the Coord Template? I installed it a while back and couldn’t figure it out then. Now, I am working on a tabs template and I would like to use coordinates within it. I am currently getting a Validator-fatal-error message (here) when it renders and I don’t know why or how to fix this. If anyone can point me in the right direction (keeping it simple please) I would be grateful. Thanks. Borderman (Talk) 15:22, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

It may be because the references from aren't listed on our whitelist of cross-site scripts (at least, it's the reason we can't see the map properly). You can file a phabricator ticket for this, and let us know if you still get the same message even after it's fixed.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 21:29, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
@開拓者: I didn't know the Coord template and Maps extension were somehow inter-connected. I can see the maps on my tablet and phone but they don't display at all on the computer and laptop in any browser. How does adding references from the aforementioned website to Miraheze's whitelist of cross-site scripts fix the Validator error? I have no idea what any of that really means, and will doing that display the maps correctly with the Maps extension across all devices? I don't understand how I can see the maps on my phone but not on the computer. I will include a phab ticket though, thanks Borderman (Talk) 13:30, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

An Indepth Explanation of Elaborate Shirtposters Wiki Request

A couple of friends and I are working on a project (although anyone is welcome to join) that I hope you might find interesting. I am a bit worried that the name of the requested wiki which we hope to document our findings with, "Elaborate Shirtposters", may be seen as too silly or just a bad joke. It is a bad joke, and certainly silly, but not a tasteless one.

The idea behind it is documenting and analyzing obscure literary, academic, and philosophical works in articles and art project proposals which on the surface or initially appear to be in the style of a "shitpost." A "shitpost" is internet terminology for a piece of media, typically written or visual, that speaks less to how one really feels or believes something to be, but more to a humorous and easily felt interpretation that is often seen as absurd or which misinterprets important concepts. The reason for this choice of format is not for the purpose of low effort articles, hence the elaborate part of the name, but because many of these works are already presented in such a manner along with the hopes of allowing the creativity of individuals to be put to full use in explaining why these works are so fascinating, or could be fascinating. The name itself is meant to exemplify this, it takes inspiration from the French play Ubu Roi which begins with the word "merdre" which is the french word for shit, "merde", with an 'r' added.

Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions.

How to resend registration mails

I created a few new user accounts for our wiki last weekend with the option "Use a temporary random password and send it to the specified email address". Probably due to the maintenance, not all users received those mails. My question is now if there is a way to resend those mails such that the users are able to log in to their accounts.

I looked through the special pages but can't find anything user account related except for the CreateAccount page, though I checked that I cannot recreate the accounts as the username is already registered. I looked under the "tools" section on the user page of one of the newly created accounts as well, but did not find an option to reset the password there either.

As far as I see I do have all possible permissions for our wiki with the bureaucrat, admin, autopatrolled, Interface administrator, ect roles. Is there probably some setting that needs to be checked before I can reset passwords? Or was I just looking in the wrong places so far? Any pointers would be appreciated. About Me

I seem to have a habit of asking near strangers deep questions.

So... I get stressed easily and I don't really think I am very good (at doing things or being good in general). I am very pessimistic (even though I fool myself into being optimistic sometimes). I sometimes don't quit when I should, or I give up too easily, or I don't remember how I am supposed to act. I think I need to look a different direction for a while, but that's going to be very hard. I was wondering if any of you had advice to offer?

Links with apostrophes don't work

I was wondering if anyone was having issues with links that have apostrophes. I have noticed that when linking to another wiki page where the title has an apostrophe, the link still appears red as seen on this glossary page. Those pages definitely exist and typing in the search box those pages appear in the drop down list but clicking on the link takes you to the usual 'create page.' Is this a bug or are apostrophes in links just not allowed? Thanks. Borderman (Talk) 07:01, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

I'd call it a bug! Double- and triple-apostrophes are commands in wikicode because they never appear naturally in English, but single apostrophe often does. You can imagine that MediaWiki would choke if generating HTML starting with url='https:// and ending with the page name, but it ought to do the right thing! Can't diagnose it further. Your glossary page might work around this with a piped link, replacing apostrophe with %25. Spıke (talk)13:37 6-Mar-2020
@Spike: Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't thought to try that but when I did it didn't work. The address of other apostrophe links show %27 but that didn't work either. I won't pretend I know anything about unicodes etc. I did a quick search for replacement apostrophe codes of which &#39; and &#apos; also didn't work, however, the right side single quotation mark &#8217; did work. The thing that I don't understand is I noticed there are two other links on that glossary page using an apostrophe and those links work. Go figure! Borderman (Talk) 17:30, 6 March 2020 (UTC)
Then @Borderman:, in contrast with your opening, you are not having issues with links that have apostrophes, but rather issues with something else. I followed your link to view its source and see if there was another pattern that explains it, but I see no red-links at all (except to the page named Signs, and to the article's talk page). The HTML for the article does not use redlink=1 except in those two cases. In short, I'm unable to even reproduce your problem! Spıke (talk)01:18 8-Mar-2020
@Spike: Yeah, to be honest I don’t really know what was happening, it was all hit and miss but after using the syntax for the right side single quotation mark, everything was fine, ergo, no red links any more. I have created other pages with apostrophes in the title and subsequently included links to those pages also using apostrophes and those seemed to work. So I am at a loss but I know that &#8217; works if I encounter the issue again. Borderman (Talk) 09:09, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
@Borderman: I am no longer at a loss! One key to avoiding red-links is that the text in the link must be exactly the name of the page, and you may be one of the many editors who believes that those Curlicue Thingies are all interchangeable, just because they look similar! Spıke (talk)22:08 13-Mar-2020
@Spike: I think everyone has made a typo once or twice whilst doing links, which is why I proofread my edits and that particular newbie mistake is extremely rare. I have, however, noticed that depending on which device I am using dictates what kind of apostrophe or quotation marks is used (' or ’) ("" or „“) in the text editor. I didn't realise there were so many different unicodes so it was something new learnt this time round. Borderman (Talk) 20:46, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

Reception123 gave you the coding to link across to another wiki on Miraheze, but more generally you can use the single-bracket syntax, [URL How you want it to read]. Spıke (talk)01:29 23-Mar-2020

Flamebait/Trollbait Wikis

I have some concerns about wikis are are becoming flamebaits or trollbaits. Some of the wikis hosted here in Miraheze are probably triggering flamewars or trolling like Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki, Atrocious Deviants Wiki, & Atrocious YouTubers Wiki.

There are many complaints/rants from users outside Miraheze about these 3 wikis. These are possible samples: (1) (2)*.

*Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki moved to this site from FANDOM due to being a Trollbait/Flamebait.

Conclusion, I think the 3 wikis needs investigation. Zirukurt01 (talk) 02:39, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

Well, looks like ED mentioned Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki in their article of Atrocious YouTubers Wiki. Now some ED noobs will ridicule these two. At least they admire some members. Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki is not a trollbait/flamebait wiki; it just provides facts (not biased opinions) to each hatedom or fandom that can exist. Anyone that inserts bias will get blocked on the wiki. The wiki is informative, and not the kind for causing heat. I don't know about the other two wikis, but I am sure TF&HW is okay to exist. WickyHoney (talk) 20:33, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
I don't think what it really suppose to be, the wiki itself is becoming trollbait/flamebait. Even how hard you try to disprove it, it will become a trollbait/flamebait eventually. Those Pewdiepie Fans, T-Series Haters, Anti-Baby Boomers and other popular fandoms/hatedoms are all aware that TF&HW existed and may prepare an attack. Zirukurt01 (talk) 07:22, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
As you probably have seen I am in favor of the community role in Miraheze. The community has asked for an investigation into the wikis that may break the policies, but we have got no answers from Stewards about if it started or about its results. @Void: @Southparkfan: @開拓者: @John: Can we have an update? --DeeM28 (talk) 09:26, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Stewards will not be able to comment on open investigations. A review could take 2 months and a response will likely be made on completion. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 19:54, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
@Zirukurt01: You either have lost hope or have the gall to lie. New users can't even edit unless they message an Administrator for access, so trolls and vandals are unlikely. I have found articles that sound like they mock people or have seen biased pointers, but that's why editing exists. Why give up when we can just edit the blemishes away? Anyone that wants to help should work as a team to make the wiki as informative and up-to-date as possible. The new Admins are working on making things orderly and altruistic. What are you doing?
Are you that dense? @WickyHoney:? The admins are terribly outnumbered, i'm sure the pewds fans and memers are likely to troll first. If I interview Kiwifarms and ED admins (even if they're atrocious), they're likely to attack too. You're a spiteful opposser as i see. --Zirukurt01 (talk) 22:28, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
@Zirukurt01: Have you looked at yourself lately? You're the spiteful one. We have worked extensively to make the wiki great, and you want to throw all of that effort away. WickyHoney (talk) 22:37, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
What's the problem, can't feed enough trolls? I saved your asses from ED but now i knew it was a bad idea because i'm trying to stop the inevitable. --Zirukurt01 (talk) 04:39, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
Let’s leave it guys. We don’t need to debate whose spiteful or not. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 06:11, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
I had a look and comparing it with the Content Policy, I don't find any real violations of the policy. It would be extremely useful to have evidence of specific examples to look at. On an off-topic note - the huge amount of reoccurring emails we receive regarding this wiki don't help the case being forward either. If anything, the existence of this wiki consumes our time by the number of people who email us the same content rather than the need to investigate issues. As a team, Stewards are extremely overran either in terms of personal, professional or other commitments in general/Miraheze specific. While we appreciate the time this has taken to get a response is not acceptable, the constant inundation of emails we receive does far from give us time to look at this matter. Therefore to summarise what I said - I don't see anything specific needing action here. I'd request people provide specific examples of things which violate the Content Policy or local policies and if possible - please attempt to resolve this locally before coming to us. We explicitly act in a capacity to fill holes where they exist - not to act as an overriding authority people can use to skip local community avenues. If these have been tried and have been unsuccessful - please also provide us examples of these too. Thanks, John (talk) 20:10, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for your answer @John:, better late than never! While I may not agree with the action at least someone finally took the time to check the issue out and see if there are any violations and I understand that you would need more specific examples. DeeM28 (talk) 08:16, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Can someone on the Atrocious YouTubers and Toxic Fandoms and Hatedoms wikis make me a autoconfirmed user?

Abuse Filter Problems.

I thought I had it, but I didn't. It didn't work and it just blocked editing all together. I was hoping someone here could inform me of how I can create a filter that can block certain words from being published? I thought I figured out a formula but I just fooled myself. It doesn't work. WickyHoney (talk) 05:04, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

Careful with those abuse filters! Fortunately, editing an abuse filter is not "editing" and you should be able to go back in and undo your work; if not, contact a steward. At Uncyclopedia, we used to have a tool called "SpamRegex" (until Wikia took it away from us!) that does exactly what you want (using UNIX "regular expressions" for pattern-matching). Still have issues with the coordinates template

Validator fatal error message

Last month I asked if anyone had knowledge of the Coord template. @開拓者: replied here and the upshot was to file a phabricator ticket to attempt to fix the issue with maps not displaying properly, which I did here It has been actioned but I am still having the same problem with maps not displaying properly in all browsers. However, my original request was for the Coord template showing a Validator-fatal-errormessage and that is still coming up every time I use the following {{Coord|45.87958|4.80887|display=inline}} to display the coordinates. The coordinates render, but not properly as seen in the image. I don't know what Validator is or what it's trying val pagidate but it's messing things up and I haven't the faintest idea how to fix it. Any suggestions? Thanks. How is miraheze doing financially?

Im asking because i'm interested in the nordVPN's advertising request (Here:

Does miraheze make enough money to stay afloat? How much extra? If we're deficit, how deficit are we? I've looked at the Finance page

--Syrian (talk) 02:33, 31 March 2020 (

"make" is a question of what "make" refers to. Miraheze has no confirmed and steady financial income. It's all one-off donations. Over the past 3 years, Miraheze has made losses of:
  • $494 in 2019;
  • $1134 in 2018;
  • a profit of $1456 (but there was a one time $1910 donation).
2016 formed our first full year, so there had to be a profit, therefore, I'm not considering it here. So, over the past 3 years, Miraheze has made losses. We stay afloat, but it's because of one-off large donations. For other information:
  • Miraheze has made a total income of $5650 for 2016-2018.
  • $2712 has been donated by organisations in a one-off donation.
  • $1040 has been donated by a single person over 2016-2018 (Labster).
This equates to around 66% of our donations coming from single sources. I hope this helps understand the wider situation in more detail. Thanks, Owen (talk) 17:41, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
I should also add, the Board published a financial summary for December 2019-February 2020 which can be viewed at File:Miraheze-Limited-Financial-Summary-Dec-Feb-2020.pdf Owen (talk) 17:45, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

How do I comment on Toxic Fandoms and Hatedoms Wiki?

When I create my account on Toxic Fandoms and Hatedom wiki. I can't comment whatsoever, I just wanted to comment a wiki. How can I do that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Norgic7 (talkcontribs)

You may message an Admin for confirmed rights on the wiki. You can message one on their UserBoard. WickyHoney (talk) 16:46, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
If you cannot do that because editing is disabled, you can try sending them an email via Special:EmailUser or using their talkpage on Meta. Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:56, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

I'm a newbie at working Miraheze and infoboxes aren't working

Hello I'm sort of new to Miraheze and I'm trying to add infoboxes to a wiki and I followed the Void tutorial, but even after putting in MediaWiki:common.css and common.js, they still look like this:

Is there something I'm missing? Do I need to import any other modules? Help would be much appreciated SavageBoy69 (talk) 13:13, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

Greetings @SavageBoy69. I believe your problem is that you are still missing some modules. Try exporting and importing the following modules:
  • Module:Check for unknown parameters
  • Module:InfoboxImage
  • Module:Separated entries
You can use this link to quickly export these modules from the English Wikipedia and then use Special:Import on your wiki to import them. Please let me know if this works. Cheers EK📝🌎 13:47, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

Infoboxes don't work on my wiki

So I'm reporting the same problem once again. On my wiki, MyPersonal, the template 'Infobox' that I pasted from the Miraheze Template Wiki just doesn't work. I don't know how to solve the problem and if I lose my patience I'll move to another wiki hosting service. A while ago I reported the same problem, but the paragraph I wrote on this exact page was cancelled. I don't know who did it, why they did it or if I did something wrong or not, but if you didn't want to help me or want to solve the problem, you could just have answered me. You would've made something way better than just ignore me — Preceding unsigned comment added by WhiteWolf69 (talkcontribs) .

@WhiteWolf69: First of all, last time when you asked for help you did so on an archive page where people don't actively look because it is a page used for archiving. Second, I think you should be more understanding and acknowledge that this is a free service provided by volunteers, instead of threatening to move to another hosting service which will not change anything or make us deal with your request in any other way. As for the issue itself "doesn't work" isn't enough for us to know anything you would have to give us a link or an error for us to be able to look into it. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:31, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
@Reception123 Hi! Thanks for your help. I admit I'm terribly sorry for what I wrote. I was quite mad when that happened so I'm very sorry if the tone of the request could seem rude. The universe of wiki editing is totally new to me so I didn't even know what 'archive' pages were when I wrote the original request. Furthermore, I feel so stupid as I didn't even provide a link neither in the original post nor here. Here it is: (the borders of the infobox aren't shown for some reason; maybe it's because I pasted the template from a fandom wiki?). I hope you'll understand my situation and accept my excuses. Crummy Scratchers Wiki won't let me comment nor view poll results.

Is there any way to fix this or can you guys fix it? If so, thanks. Pacsonic9000 (talk) 20:41, 6 April 2020 (PST)

Maybe you need to enable those permissions for users. Go to Special:ManageWiki/permissions and give "*" or "user" the abilities. If that is not the issue, then I can't help. WickyHoney (talk) 16:43, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Can you fix this page please?

It doesn't load up anymore because it's broken. Can you guys please fix it? Cartoonlover20 (talk) 18:15, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

It seems the page is getting a 502 Bad Gateway error. We are looking into it. Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:34, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
@Cartoonlover20: We have managed to get the page to load now but the issues that are present are because the page is calling way too many files which is causing there to be load issues. Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:53, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

YouTube extension

mw:Extension:YouTube says that Nicovideo is one of the supported video sites of the extension. However it doesn't work on Miraheze. I looked at the code and saw that code for several video sites, including Nicovideo, is commented out. What is the reason for this? Could it be re-enabled? Are there any other differences from the official flavor that affects features like this? Thanks. --Jack980517 (talk) 11:42, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Help! Need to use Visual Editor, but don't understand how/where install Parsoid

I've used Wikipedia's Visual Editor but can't figure how to use it here. I've activated in Extensions, but then read Parsoid has to be set up first. I don't know where local settings.php is? Also, do I just paste the standard code that is listed on Parsoid help entry? Or something else? I'm working on Coronavirus-related project & trying to get rolling with adding content ASAP. Thanks very much!

If you've enabled it in Special:ManageWiki/extensions, you don't have to worry about Parsoid, we've already got it setup for you and configured automatically. If VisualEditor isn't working on your wiki, please specify what error you are getting, or otherwise link us to the wiki so we can investigate. Cheers -- Void Whispers 17:25, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Also have tried uploading both the big logo file & the thumbnail of the only image on my wiki, but can't get it to show up as logo or favicon  :( Could you possibly figure what's going on there? Thanks so much!

Visual editor should start working within 10-20 minutes of when it was last enabled. For the logo, you probably just need to clear your browser's cache. Also, note that the logo will not display properly if the image is not smaller than 135px by 135px. -- Void Whispers 17:57, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
  • Thanks! I will upload a smaller image

Yay! It just came up asking if I wanted to use Visual Editor!!!

When I go to my test page at it won't let me edit at all now, though.

  • Just double-checked & it is still letting me edit in wikitext but if I click just the plain "edit" links, it doesn't do anything. Visual Editor IS working on this community noticeboard page, though

I can't log out now.

Well, I'm logged in, but now I can't log out or publish edits. As a result, I'm unable to follow the steps provided. - InfinityDestroyer

At where you delete your cookies for individual sites, instead of deleting only for (your wiki name), search "miraheze" and delete everything found. Exact procedure vary by browser. Just google how to delete cookies for individual sites only (and not all sites). If somehow you can't do it, just press Ctrl+Shift+Del and choose to delete all cookies. You would lose login status on all websites that way however, and would need to login again. --Jack980517 (talk) 22:48, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
