How can I give administrator privileges to an user in my wiki?

I am trying to give administrator privileges to an user in my wiki, but I do not know how to. LanomniZ (talk) 15:03, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Go to the page Special:UserRights and enter the username. Then check the administrator box at the bottom of the right-hand list and click save user groups. ~ El Komodos Drago (talk to me) 16:16, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Page placement errors

Any help would be appreciated, I have pages like 2021-08-02_%E2%80%8BSan_Jose adding %E2%80%8B in the requested page url and I'm having issues fixing it, the page url should look like 2021-01-04_Abu_Dhabi but for some reason it's not, I've noticed it's messing up some of my other pages as well. Any help I would why it's doing this, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. PlatinumYellow (talk) 12:30, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

This is a normal reaction on the browser side, iirc. The _ still works perfectly. Raidarr (talk) 13:37, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
I'm still unsure how I did it on my browser then, as it's not like I added the pages differently than I have other ones. Thank you for the assistance. PlatinumYellow (talk) 21:13, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
I've been messing around with it, but it still recognises 2021-08-02_Washington,_D.C. as differently than 2021-08-02%E2%80%8B_Washington,_D.C., and I'm not sure whats causing it or how to fix it. PlatinumYellow (talk) 21:35, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

How can I format my template so that text is displayed a certain way when a user edits a form with the dropdown input type?

(I'm still learning mediawiki through the documentation, so forgive me if I'm not using all the correct terminology. And please let me know if this is the wrong place to ask this question and direct me where to go. :))

I know how to change the values that are chosen from in a dropdown form field by using syntax something like the following: {{{field|Swearing|input type=dropdown|values=Brief,Occasional,Frequent,Constant}}}

I'm struggling figuring out how the page forms {{{for template}}} call pulls information from the template onto the page when it passes through a dropdown or radiobutton input type. I know that what will be displayed depends on what is in the template that is called, but I'm having trouble creating a template that will display things the way that I want. I currently have some {{#if}} type parser function calls on my template that I'm calling, and I believe that makes sure that the are no problems if the field is left empty. But after reading the documentation for page forms, templates, and parser functions, I can't figure out how to get the results I want.

Here is a short description of what I am hoping to achieve:

A user wants to rate the mature content on a movie they have recently seen. They create a new page and are looking at a form. The first section is called "Language" and has several items (Bad Words, Cruel Language, etc.) each with a single checkbox. When they click on the checkbox, more options appear on the form (I've got this working with the show on select feature) such as Rude Language, Mild Swearing, etc. Each of these new items is a dropdown input type. (I can create these just fine). The user then selects Frequent from the dropdown for Rude Language and Occasional for the dropdown for Mild Swearing, and they then save the page.

When the user then looks at the page, on it is displayed a wikitable with column 1 labeled "Language" col 2 labeled "Violence" and so on. In the first row, under column 1 for language are all of the dropdown items that were selected, but none of the checkbox ones. (In this case, it would not display "Bad Words" or "Cruel Language" (because those were subsections of the form used only for the "show on select" but "Frequent Rude Language" and "Occasional Mild Swearing" because those were selected from the dropdown). Ideally, the form would read "Rude Language" (dropdown field with brief, occasional, frequent, constant), while within the table on the page would be displayed "Brief Rude Language" not "Rude Language: Brief".

I believe that the formatting for the wikitable being displayed on the page should be in the template, as well as the items I want to be displayed. And finding how to format these templates is where I am getting confused.

Here is a link to one of my (incomplete) templates and a form definition page with a call to that template (as well as a page created with that form) so that you can see what I have been trying. Template and Form-Definition-Page and also Page-Created-with-that-Form

Thanks so much! ParentRatings (talk) 19:28, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Solved. I figured out that I was looking for the #switch parser function and had an error in my table formatting. I've got it working now. ParentRatings (talk) 17:34, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Deleting my account

I can't do what I wanted with wiki, so please close my account. Santtu (talk) 06:58, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Santtu We can't delete accounts, per se, but we can anonymize them in one of two ways. We can either rename the account globally to something random and lock it, allowing you to request reinstatement of the account later, or we can do all of that and remove all personally identifying information from the account. Which would you prefer? Dmehus (talk) 04:08, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Organizing the categories list

So, the list of categories on the wikis I'm an admincrat on are a mess thanks to these "categories" that simply state the date a blog was made. Here's an example. I would remove them, but I've been told that doing so would screw up the MediaWiki Sitenotice id on the wiki, so is there any sort of way I can hide them from the list to clear up the list? --Blazikeye535 (talk) 04:05, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

If you can, I'd rename them to 2021-08-16 for example, it'll have them in numerical order and thats how I've organised my articles/categories on my wiki. PlatinumYellow (talk) 10:03, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
I'm not sure who told you that, but it sounds superstitious. Automatically added blog categories have nothing to do with the sitenotice id. To reference local conversation, id was only brought up as an excuse for a poorly executed block move.
Unfortunately they are generated by mw:Extension:BlogPage and I don't have a useful lead on disabling it aside from suggesting to file a Phabricator task about it. In the meantime to drop them out of lists that should be functionally useful (like Special:UncategorizedCategories]]), consider adding them to an 'Articles by date' global category to make it look natural. Though it would take work to maintain, you can hide them individually with the HIDDENCAT magic word to simply make them disappear from nearly everyone. Aside from the current initiative to manually remove them however, there's not much to be done from truly preventing them to exist. Again, unless you file a task where someone technical can take a look at stripping the function or make it opt in/out. --Raidarr (talk) 13:13, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Looking for contributors to Shaw's Nightmare Wiki

Hello I am looking for contributors to the Shaw's Nightmare wiki. It is a first person shooter game inspired by Doom and it is for DOS and Windows PCs. It is about a little boy named Shaw, who fell asleep and began to have a nightmare. He must find his way out of the bizarre world, fighting strange creatures along the way.

The wiki is here:

Is it possible to change the username?

I might plan to change my username in the future so i wanted to ask directly if that is possible on Miraheze. Its fine if it isn't. Smashidachi (talk) 11:08, 21 August 2021 (UTC)

You can. Just confirm your e-mail here (if you haven't done it yet), and request your account to be renamed here. SPEEDYBEAVER (talk) 11:44, 21 August 2021 (UTC)

Taiwan Rail Transport Wiki

Hello, I have a question regarding files on my wiki. My wiki (which is by far about Taipei Metro) uses a lot of files, but I noticed that a lot of them are quite old. Since my wiki isn't Wikipedia, it probably doesn't follow the same licensing rules for images on my wiki then it does on Wikipedia. My question is, can I use images on my wiki that I find on the internet of MRT? Or are there still specific rules I have to follow? 54nd60x (talk) 13:26, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

Hey, I noticed a bug in my logo. The wiki's logo is too large.

What can I do? WindowsViennaFish2010 (talk) 07:13, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

The logo has to be no larger than 160x160. As your logo is bigger, it uses the centre square. Can you reload the logo in the smaller size? PercyUK (talk) 08:57, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
How? WindowsViennaFish2010 (talk) 09:26, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Request to change the interwiki table

  1. I would like to request to add the prefix 'miraheze', the url$1, forward = yes, to the interwiki table of XComhghall Wiki.
  2. I would like to change the language of XComhghall Wiki's MediaWiki (or database, idk) to traditional Chinese or English, and keep the language of the wiki as Chinese. Could that be possible?
This is what I mean: (en) and连入页面 (traditional Chinese) both redirect to链入页面 (simplified Chinese). So it seems to me that the MediaWiki or database of XComhghall Wiki is in simplified Chinese. I do not want any simplified Chinese in the link of my wiki.
The reason that I want to keep the language of the wiki as Chinese is that, on, to the right of the Main page and Discussion tabs on the top, there is a drop-down menu for converting between traditional and simplified Chinese, and even converting regional words. If the language of the wiki is set as either traditional or simplified Chinese, this feature seems to be lost, as in the case of

Thank you very much. — XComhghall (talk) 12:22, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

@XComhghall: I have added the prefix for your wiki (although, you could also link to miraheze meta by using the m: interwiki, But for your other request, When a wiki is set to Chinese for example, when I go to the wiki and enter (on the URL box of my browser) Special:SpecialPages, It won't tell me there's no such page, instead, it will redirect me to how the text should look like according to the language of the wiki (although sometimes it just work like that).
That's basically how MediaWiki works, I am unsure there's a way you'd have your wiki set to Chinese language and expect the titles to be in whatever language.
FYI, You could change the language of your wiki at this page.
Thank you. Ugochimobi (talk) 18:13, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
@Ugochimobi: Thank you very much. I understand how to change my wiki's language. I want my wiki to be in Chinese (which includes simplified and traditional). The default titles and urls of a Chinese wiki is in simplified Chinese, but I want them to be in traditional Chinese. It seems that I am not able to achieve that, but thank you still. — XComhghall (talk) 04:17, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

@Admiral Marcus: Hi. Yes, of course. If you only want approved users to be able to edit your wiki you need to go to Special:ManageWiki/permissions, select * and then remove the edit permission from that group and then do the same for user (assuming you don't want logged in users to edit either). Then you can assign the edit permission to custom groups. Hope this helps. Reception123 (talk) (C) 18:15, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

Adding Custom Font

I have created a custom font face that I want to use (as a web font) for my RPG gaming wiki. Is there a way to upload the .woff (and/or the other format font files) and then utilize it as part of the custom css for my wiki?

As this is a font face I have created from scratch, licensing of it is not an issue as I am the rights holder for the font.

What are the precise, and full steps I need to take to actually get my custom font uploaded then installed and referencing it properly within css as a web font, for use across the entire wiki?

I would be grateful if someone could fully walk me through (or spell out precisely) the all steps needed.

Thanks in advance.— Mitchell Gore (talk) 21:03, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

I refer you to the section #Font is only changing partially on my wiki above. The @import code shown might work if the font is on an accessible website. Ultimately it would be better to locate the font file on the same server that is serving pages, and I can't help you with that. But my tutorial on what CSS to write may be helpful. Spıke (talk) 00:05 6-Sep-2021
I've used Goggle fonts in customized CSS in skins on wikis before. It's actually hosting/using a custom font that is the issue. But I do appreciate you sharing your previous post on the topic of partial font loading issues. – Mitchell Gore (talk) 19:22, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
So does anyone have any experience with uploading and using (i.e. hosting) custom web fonts to their wiki? — Mitchell Gore (talk) 18:21, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Interwiki for Wikidata?

Hi! Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place, but I'd like to ask if it's possible for my interwiki table to be changed to allow for interwiki links to Wikidata (I believe "Wikidata" and "d" are the prefixes). Not entirely sure how the interwiki thing works, but I know I've been able to link straight to Wikipedia pages using the "w" prefix. My wiki is vgportdb (maybe vgportdbwiki), any assistance would be appreciated! Njsmooth2600 (talk) 02:14, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Njsmooth2600 This is the correct place, but looking at your local interwiki table, I'm seeing the d prefix pointing to the global interwiki configuration on this wiki, which is currently$1. You can definitely override global interwiki table values locally, but it seems like what you're wanting is already set globally, unless I'm misunderstanding? Dmehus (talk) 02:20, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
Oh, I didn't notice. My mistake. Well, would it still be possible to add the "Wikidata" prefix? If not, I'll be able to work with just 'd', but the option would be nice. Thanks for your help Njsmooth2600 (talk) 19:22, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
@Njsmooth2600: Hi there, I just added the wikidata: prefix for your vgportdb wiki, I hope you're satisfied with that and sorry it was quite late. Greetings. Ugochimobi (talk) 11:21, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

--SchizoACC (talk) 07:26, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

<infobox> is available on Miraheze but needs a bureaucrat to enable it. I use Wikipedia's module infobox which I find easy to create infoboxes. I have added it to the wiki and changed the inuse infoboxes to this system.
Whilst doing this I notice you have found a solution to the Main Page.
ThatDudeRightHere requested this wiki on 13 August but not made any edits. The wiki needs a bureaucrat with access to enable services, so I would recommend that you apply for adoption explaining the need for rights. PercyUK (talk) 11:42, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Can we get statistics on how often particular search terms are used on a wiki?

We're having a discussion on All The Tropes as to whether a particular group of categories are useful. We can't answer that unless we know whether they're being used. Character reception wikis

I don't understand why Incredible Characters Wiki and Loathsome Characters Wiki were closed. The wikis did not have any reason for closure. Also, why were they privated, because now I can’t even see any of the content on the wikis. Could these wikis be restored, or at least have their content ported onto the other Qualitipedia wikis if restoration is not an option. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:27, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Also, the websites wikis were closed but are now re-opened somehow, even though there is no log showing that they were re-opened. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:31, 30 August 2021 (UTC)
This is much the same issue with an admin 'jumping the gun' for closure, with several early supporters of closure having second thoughts later on. --Raidarr (talk) 00:11, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

How do I change the font for everything on my wiki?

I'm wondering what the CSS is to change the font on my wiki for the whole wiki so I can have it the same as I did on my old Fandom wiki. I did this with CSS on the old one and I already have the font that I'd like to use (Questrial) installed. Raichu's Endless Nights (talk) 13:47, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

This is done with font-family applied to the body element, at the most basic level. Not having done this much, I am pretty sure you'd need to do extra from there - ranging from using !important to drive in that you really want to use the font, to inspecting and targeting the straggler elements that have their own font selection. I don't believe Cosmos has a specific function to change fonts with. It's not a very elegant solution and I tend to just try it until it works myself, which I cannot do given your wiki is and presumably will always be private. But it's an interim response until someone more CSS savvy stops by. --Raidarr (talk) 08:26, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
I'm going to try that real quick Raichu's Endless Nights (talk) 08:53, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

Also I should note I'm using the Cosmos skin and I don't know if it's possible to change the font on that? Just it's the very last thing I need to make my wiki exactly the way I pictured it. Raichu's Endless Nights (talk) 08:13, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

So this is the exact CSS I've used for the font. I've probably done something wrong but also something at least right as my name on my profile is coming up in the font I want, but nothing else. If I've done something wrong, I'll need someone to point it out for me because I'm not very good at this. I'll make my wiki unprivate temporarily if it's needed. The fact something is coming up in the font means it did install right and an aspect of it is working. When I checked inspect element on one of my pages, a lot of the code for the font was crossed out, it was saying the default fonts but crossed out. I don't really know what else to do, I'm kind of stuck. Raichu's Endless Nights (talk) 13:27, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

Font is only changing partially on my wiki

I'm sorry to write this topic again but I'm feeling a bit lost with this. The code to change the font on my wiki (which I directly copypasted from here but with the font I wanted to use) and I can tell it's been installed because my username on my profile and the title when I make a new page are in the font I wanted, but nothing else. When I go into inspect element on a page, it says it should be in the font but it's crossed out so I guess it isn't working. I don't know if this is because of the Cosmos skin I'm using but I hope it isn't. I'm not very good at coding and this is the last thing I need to make my wiki perfect so I hope I can have some help with it. Since my wiki is private, I'll put it on unprivate if you ask me to if you're not one of the people who can see it globally. I'll put the code that I'm using in on my next edit.

Again, I'm sorry I'm posting this twice, but I'm really lost and I don't know what to do. Raichu's Endless Nights (talk) 08:46, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello @Raichu's Endless Nights:. The thing we're working with here is called Cascading Style Sheets (CSS); "cascading" means the style sheets can come from many places other than Common.css, including the user's own browser and in-line in the page. There is a hierarchy for which style sheet to follow in the case of a conflict. The fact that you can see the font in your username and in titles proves that you did @import it correctly. The strikethrough lets you see that the browser did pick up the command to use Questrial font but that it was overridden by some other style sheet. You may be able to scroll upward in the pane where you see the strikethrough and see a competing style that did take effect. As skins dictate a lot of styles to produce a desired visual effect, my guess is that there is a competing style command elsewhere in Cosmos.css that is overriding yours. Good luck! Spıke (talk) 23:50 1-Sep-2021
PS--I have gone to your wiki and done that very thing. The topmost command I see is a command governing all children of the page's "body" element; it comes from load.php:1 (I think that means from Miraheze itself! This may be unconditional, or it may be because you chose the Cosmos skin.) and it specifies Helvetica Neue, Helvetica, Arial, or else any sans-serif font.
In CSS, specific commands override general commands. Helpfully, your two commands include !important, which makes them override any commands without it. Your first command dictates your font for "body", but again, Miraheze dictates the font for all of its children! Your second command dictates your font for H1 (first-level heads; this includes page titles) and H2 (second-level heads). I think a step forward is if you edit the first command to read as follows (note the change on my line 1):
body * {
  font-family: "Questrial", sans-serif!important;
This would cancel out the Miraheze standing order and dictate your style for all children of "body". See if that works. Spıke (talk) 00:03 2-Sep-2021
PS--If this works, then I would remove the second command, the one governing H1 and H2. If they are not direct children of "body", they will inherit the font from an element that is, so this command should now be redundant.
Incidentally, I never saw your font, as I have a CSS command on my PC (in my userContent.css) saying what font I want Miraheze to use to render everything. Spıke (talk) 00:11 2-Sep-2021

Sorry this is a bit of a late response I only just saw this. I first copied and replaced the code you gave me onto Common.css and deleted the other one but nothing happened. I went into inspect element and I think it was the Cosmos skin overriding the default fonts so I put the code into Cosmos.css instead and the font loaded in for everything. Thank you for the help! ^^ Raichu's Endless Nights (talk) 15:37, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Use the same domain for a wiki and other things

Hello, I would like to use a custom domain for my wiki, but I would also like to use it for other things. I would like to know if it is possible to use the same domain for both a wiki ( and for other topics (e.g. that would be separate from the MediaWiki interface, so that the /wiki/ part is just a topic of the complete site and that when you just type, you don't go directly to the wiki, so that you have to type to access it (I don't know if I'm clear). Have a nice day, Soronos (talk) 18:04, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

@Soronos: Hi there, AFAIK, once your domain DNS records have been mapped to miraheze's nameservers, you can not use your domain elsewhere, you can only use it on miraheze.
I believe this information I just share has answered a lot more of your present quest. Greetings. Ugochimobi (talk) 09:38, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
Not to contradict, but I'm quite sure you can adjust the destination subdomain, and even if you can't it only reaches, not yourdomain/everyotherlinkhere unless you go out of your way to redirect it to be so. I would make a Phabricator task to verify what you're trying to set up as I haven't personally attempted the process. --Raidarr (talk) 10:25, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

Adding Custom Font (bumped) SOLVED

I have created a custom font face that I want to use (as a web font) for my RPG gaming wiki. Is there a way to upload the .woff (and/or the other format font files) and then utilize it as part of the custom css for my wiki?

As this is a font face I have created from scratch, licensing of it is not an issue as I am the rights holder for the font.

What are the precise, and full steps I need to take to actually get my custom font hosted (i.e. uploaded then installed) and referencing it properly within css as a web font, for use across the entire wiki?

I would be grateful if someone could fully walk me through (or spell out precisely) the all steps needed for uploading and hosting the custom font. – Mitchell Gore (talk) 23:45, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

if you want to use custom fonts, use:,400i,600,600i&display=swap%27 for example: want Montserrat font? use: @import url(',400i,600,600i&display=swap'); in your MediaWiki:Vector.css (or Common.css). Therefore, this issue of using a font in the content of the pages that you created yourself is very complicated YellowFrogger (talk) 23:19, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. The issue was more about uploading (i.e. hosting) a custom made webfont within my wiki's space here miraheze, than using Google fonts within the CSS for my wiki. But again, thank you for the reply. That said, I did manage to figure it out now and I think I have it solved (I hope). To provide a counter argument, pornographic content can be acceptable if you stick with it in premise and introduce proper content warnings so the wrong users can't stumble on it. But Miraheze has a significant underage audience, so it may still be a problem in general and it's especially a problem trying to get just anyone to spread it off this section. You might consider appealing to more target audiences than this Meta or a suitable description in the Gazetteer if you haven't already. --Raidarr (talk) 10:21, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

Wiki being stubborn; can't change skin to Chameleon, wiki stuck on MonoBook

Hello people

I manage a Wiki for my Discord server.

Here's my problem:

I wanted to replace the skin on my wiki (MonoBook) with Chameleon, but my wiki is being stubborn, I removed all the skins I added, except Chameleon, and I switched to some other skin, and then I switched back to Chameleon, but nothing happened, and the wiki still defaulted to MonoBook despite how I obviously told it that Chameleon was the default from now on, can you help? Do you need to wait some time before your skin changes? Magicpeartree (talk) 06:03, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

Well firstly, upon entering the wiki (I assume Discordia) the first skin I get is actually Apex. I don't see anything named 'Chameleon' as an option in user preferences. Upon examining the skins section it doesn't seem your addition saved. I would try to get it to be used one more time and if that fails, perhaps close out of the browser you're using entirely and let it start over when trying again. Let us know if it doesn't catch - use the skin menu to verify it's there with a checkmark. Only then can it properly become default. The current default I see here appears to be apex, which does seem to be properly added and saved. --Raidarr (talk) 10:13, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
@Magicpeartree: any progress on this issue? --Raidarr (talk) 08:33, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

The role of Global Sysop

I might have the wrong idea on this, so I'd like to present the scenario before presenting something like an RfC to address it. Global sysops are opened with the following line:

"Global Sysops on Miraheze are users who assist Stewards in supporting the community and working with communities to address issues facing them locally as well as cleaning up vandalism, preventing it when possible and enforcing Miraheze's global policies."

This is the opening premise of the page, where the three 'blocks' of duties are supporting communities/addressing their problems in general (clarified in 'Local interference' as being on request or policy need, not just meddling whenever they want), CVT duties and policy enforcement.

However, based on conversations in the past (I sadly do not have diffs to offer at this time) I have gotten the impression that only the CVT portion is regarded, and policy enforcement only with respect to CVT duties. The community support aspect is effectively absent in practice, both with current membership of a few GS with their performed duties and expressed opinions elsewhere on Meta that Global Sysop should effectively stay out of the way of Stewards making decisions on all community matters straight up and stick to CVT. I think this has raised a problem where community dramas or lighter issues that require an authoritative, but not 'top level' take have been left sitting for extended periods, waiting for the absolute top of community managers on Miraheze to review. The current situation here started by a Steward's oversight has been left languishing because it totally depends on the involvement of a Steward who frankly only participates in sprees, not consistently to maintain and review, or various adoption requests that mainly depend on a few community members handling the most obvious cases with any final decisions taking an extended period of time to be made. Likely it would only take a direct poke or mention (like this) for these things to soon be addressed, but otherwise they may be addressed months down the line or whenever somebody decides to get to it. This is not to condemn the Stewards, but note the need of someone acting to review topics like these in a timely manner of their own volition without putting yet more on a Steward's busy plate between here and real life. Faster turnaround to address them would surely look better on Miraheze as a platform, as the response time of Stewards has come up a number of times in observations. Meanwhile nobody can or will address even some of these tasks.

Perhaps this reflects the need for more Stewards, but it's my impression that there is nobody with plentiful time who would really get the position if they tried due to the (reasonable) high conservatism in making appointments, and those who might get it do not wish to take on more given they are already quite filled up with duties such as sysadmin. The clear compromise is staffing a position just below top that can be accountable to both community and the trusted Stewards. The position that is not the final arbiter, but 'good enough' to cover a majority of communal issues in a timely way and defer only if the top (Stewards) are truly needed with their current availability. By stated policy above I think this gap is already filled. But it seems to me there is a strong current that it should not be filled by anyone except Stewards. Am I wrong? Can Global Sysops be more useful and I've mislead myself into believing nobody trusts them to do more, and if someone were to request the role they can get the position on grounds of community support over purely CVT duties? If I am right then I think the language should be changed to reflect this, as it would misleadingly imply and put first the idea that GS are a community support role with CVT as 'another' duty rather than the primary one. But that would mean there is a gap in addressing issues that should be solved another way, as I think the current turnaround time on Steward-level actions should not continue if only for their sake. Thanks for the read. --Raidarr (talk) 13:37, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

This is most truly an interesting question. Pursuant to this RfC, the old CVT group's scope was expanded and renamed accordingly. In fact, that section about supporting the community was codified by the aforementioned RfC. I would say your interpretation is correct. Various comments on the RfC thought so too as they also interpreted this as being an expansion of the Global Sysops scope with one user calling the new group "Deputy Stewards". The proposer of the RfC, Reception123, stated in a section supporting the rename of the group that "I think global sysop best describes this group because the role of a sysop is to support the community as well as to combat vandalism, so the name works," suggesting that by expanding Global Sysops scope, they would efficiently be acting as a local sysop would but in a global sense. Additionally, it was suggested that a new "Global Rollback" group with focus only on vandalism be created further reinforcing the idea that Global Sysops are supposed to help the community should they face issues and should be more involved in community affairs as this RfC's purpose ultimately seems to be that.
Indeed, focus is primarily put on CVT only and not the latter part of supporting communities. Based on this, I believe Global Sysops could probably help more in the community apart from Counter-vandalism. I don't know what others think but that has been my interpretation of the RfC and scope of Global Sysops. I invite Reception123 to opine on this above and give us his view seeing that he started that RfC and is a current Global Sysop. Agent Isai Talk to me! 15:34, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

How do I import pages? Musicismylife (talk) 05:30, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

@Musicismylife: You could try using Special:Import on your local wiki if the file is small enough. If it's too big, you'll need to make a Phabricator request. Hope this helps. Agent Isai Talk to me! 05:34, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

@Agent Isai: Apparently it appears you can only import pages if you are an administrator. Musicismylife (talk) 08:49, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

It's a specific permission to opt into groups I believe.--Raidarr (talk) 09:03, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
@Musicismylife: Yes, the import permission is (by default) granted to administrators. If you don't have the permission, ask that a local admin import the file or ask them to grant you the right to import. Agent Isai Talk to me! 14:11, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

@Agent Isai: It's a bit more difficult than that. There's these reception wikis about foods and restaurants that I originally contributed to, but I stopped because the users from Qualitipedia thought they would be biased and they would cause drama. I do definitely see that know, however, this page could probably be imported to mh:horriblecompanies:Horrible Companies Wiki since it mainly focuses on the actions of the people who run the restaurant and therefore is not biased like most other pages. Musicismylife (talk) 22:50, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

The example you mention has no extra content outside of page code (such as comments, the key reason I expect you'd like to use the import feature), so in that case at least the layout can simply be duplicated. Otherwise you may contact CircleyDoesExtracter, a bureaucrat of the wiki with involvement and good standing across Miraheze to give you the right if you truly need it there. @SperosDurrell: I deeply apologize if you believe I am "pushing you away" however, all I want is for you to focus on one topic and wiki, that's it. We run on donations and have finite space. My main concern is that you seem to contribute to a wiki for a few days (on average, 2 days!) and then abandon the wiki. According to my calculations, had you not stopped requesting wikis, you'd have an additional 36 wikis by the end of the year which is unfeasible. Understand that we aren't trying to be mean, we're just trying to use our resources wisely. Again, our sincerest apologies if you believe we have been mean to you and I thank you for your understanding. Agent Isai Talk to me! 22:13, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
i appreciate that, agent. I don't want to waste your time, everyone. Can we make a compromise?? Im seriously willing. SperosDurrell (talk) 22:19, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

i thought wikis were not limited, just me? My mental health gets in the way but i like to comprimize. SperosDurrell (talk) 15:08, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

@SperosDurrell: It's not a rule in concrete but general wasting of Miraheze resources is frowned upon. Agent Isai Talk to me! 15:09, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
how many times do I have to tell you, can we come up with a resolution please? SperosDurrell (talk) 15:11, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
There is a simple resolution. Pick a wiki and make it happen, while not requesting many wikis and making them not happen. Follow it and the issue does not exist. --Raidarr (talk) 16:24, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
But there is no rule about requesting wikis. Anyone can order as many wikis as they want! There was even a steward who said that there is no limit to asking for wikis. YellowFrogger (talk) 16:58, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
@YellowFrogger: I beg to differ. Could you show me where they said that? To my best knowledge, they all carry a similar point of view that excessive wikis should not be created as they use resources and are prone to be abandoned unless a justified reason is present. Agent Isai Talk to me! 17:02, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
I've seen a steward say that. But I don't know where it went.
Are you the same guy who turned down all my wiki requests? Another wiki creator went there and accepted! You have to review your concepts YellowFrogger (talk) 17:10, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
@YellowFrogger: Once I informed said wiki creator, he agreed that you requested way too many wikis. In addition, even a systems administrator agreed that you had requested too many wikis. Agent Isai Talk to me! 17:13, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
But did you feel obligated to refuse all wikis?. Also because another wiki creator arrived and created others (not all). YellowFrogger (talk) 17:20, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
Please review the portion where the creator who accepted had not been updated on the concepts and proceeded to agree with why they were declined en masse. --Raidarr (talk) 17:23, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
A limit on wikis and creations is not hardcoded. However, it's my impression that the social limit is how many you can maintain at a given time, and in severe circumstances wiki creators may use their judgement for an excess of provably invalid creations or stewards may step in with cases where users have gone excessive to tell them to knock it off (which does have precedence). --Raidarr (talk) 17:09, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
I had only asked for the wiki version in other languages. Only that. YellowFrogger (talk) 17:16, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
On the surface this is an acceptable reason; however the issue as far as I was informed was a) the quantity that would be prohibitively unreasonable to expect from one person at the same time, and b) the lack of sufficient details for the wikis that were requested. The compromise might have been to start one or two alternates, and use their progress as evidence that the rest are sustainable. Please correct me if this impression is wrong. --Raidarr (talk) 17:26, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Infoboxes not working on my wiki

I have been sent here from Phabricator.

On my wiki Ocromia Wiki, infoboxes imported from Wikipedia or other wikis are not working. They are supposed to be right-aligned and a grey colour (like this) but instead, they are left-aligned and transparent (like this). I have been told that a) CSS is missing from the template import and b) MediaWiki:Common.cssdoesn't contain what it should. Neither of these were explained on the comments posted on the Phabricator tasks, so does anyone know what might help? TheEagleNebula (talk) 11:47, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

It looks like your entire Common.css is blank. You can simply copy and paste the Common.css from Wikipedia's MediaWiki:Common.css. As to the specific part of the CSS in the common.css that hands most of the basic infobox styling, I copy and pasted it here MediaWiki:Common.css syntax for infoboxes. Hope this helps. – Mitchell Gore (talk) 22:12, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
It also has to have several important modules, including: Yesno and Infobox for example (talk) 23:11, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

I am trying to import the infobox template

Hello, I am working on customizing my wiki a bit, and I have been trying to import the Infobox template from however, I keep getting an error for this when I try to use the code, and I am unsure why and was wondering if someone can assist me with this.

The error I get is (paraphrasing) "Lua error 80 module:Navbar/configuration" I tried also installing Template:Navbar as well, but it didn't help me either. I am unsure why this is, so anyone who may be willing to help me, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance. Kind regards, Chloe. (talk) 03:49, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

I decided to try it one more time, unfortunately, it didn't work.
Here is the full error message:
Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Navbar/configuration' not found. Kind regards, Chloe. (talk) 03:55, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
TimeWisely, hello. It needs Module:Navbar/configuration which isn't available on templatewiki. However, you can copy wikipedia:Module:Navbar/configuration to Module:Navbar/configuration on your wiki. --Magogre (talk) 05:34, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Oh that worked, thank you very much! Kind regards, Chloe. (talk) 16:00, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

I have one more problem I'm a bit unsure how to fix.

Hello, i was downloading infobox template, I had gotten it installed, however I realized that the documentation looked a bit wrong, so I downloaded all of the CSS files for each respective theme, and imported them into my wiki.

However, I have an error when trying to use them.

Module:Documentation/styles.css must have content model "Sanitized CSS" for TemplateStyles

I downloaded TemplateStyles, as it said that's what you use to get that to work.

I am unsure how to resolve this, as I'm unfamiliar with the term, "Sanitized CSS", and I couldn't find anything online. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you. Kind regards, Chloe. (talk) 15:59, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

@TimeWisely: Please visit Special:ChangeContentModel on your wiki and change the content model of Module:Documentation/styles.css to sanitized CSS. That should fix it. Agent Isai Talk to me! 14:33, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! Kind regards, Chloe. (talk) 21:22, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Code Editor doesn't note errors, warnings and info

@SolidBlock When SolidBlock and I edit CSS, JavaScript or Lua modules on RSWiki, the code editor does't note errors. Are there any wikis having the similar problems with Code Editor? Zes M Young (talk) 12:42, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

In addition, the following logs that may be relevant are found in the console:

Help, embeded content not working

I was doing well building up the content for the land wiki alliance, but recently all my embedded content stopped loading (video's from youtube and vimeo, and google sheets). It all used to work. It just says "this content is blocked. Contact the site owner to fix the issue."

Can someone tell me how to fix this? here is the wiki: (talk) 11:00, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Possibly a CSP issue. I've alerted sysadmins about it but I would recommend you also create a Phabricator task about it. Agent Isai Talk to me! 17:00, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

I was going to make a post about this because I'm having the same issue on the Random-ness wiki and my friend's private wiki won't load them either. (On Firefox it's coming up as completely blank space.) However on the CLG Wiki the videos are loading fine, so I'm not sure what's going on. Raichu's Endless Nights (talk) 16:51, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

@Raichu's Endless Nights: just to follow up, has this changed or been resolved? --Raidarr (talk) 09:29, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
Unfortunately, no, the same thing is happening, places where videos should be come up as blank. This is also happening on my own wiki as well as the Random-ness wiki I think it might have something to do with the extentions because CLG Wiki displays videos fine, and I think they use a different extention for videos. Import multiple images at once

Hello, I would like to know how to import several images at once, like on Fandom. At the moment, I can only import one at a time and it's quite long. Thanks in advance. Darkrai18 (talk) 09:34, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

@Darkrai18: If you have all the images already, what some do is enable MsUpload in Special:ManageWiki/extensions and then drag and drop the images in the wiki editor. If you're a bit more tech-savvy, consider using PyWikiBot. Hope this helps. Agent Isai Talk to me! 13:39, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Well, the images I want to import are not yet on my wiki. Darkrai18 (talk) 11:47, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
@Darkrai18: has this been resolved? If not, I'll ask for a bit more context to see if this can be settled. --Raidarr (talk) 09:12, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

EditTop Gadget, and Wikiplus

I am trying to add the EditTop (EN Wikipedia) gadget to my wiki (XComhghall Wiki). I imported the definition, the js page, ad the css page, but it does not show up in preferences. What is wrong, and what do I need to do?

I installed Wikiplus (EN Wikipedia), a user-maintained script (see the discussion on MW), on my global.js page. It was working fine in August. The edit box appeared on top of the section I edit, as shown in this gif, and can be expanded and moved. Currently, Wikiplus works fine on both EN and ZH Wikipedia, but I am experiencing problems with it on my wiki. The edit box appears at the bottom of the page, cannot be moved, and has lost the original background color, border, design, etc. Do you know what the problem might be? What can I do?

Thank you very much. — XComhghall (talk) 02:34, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

@XComhghall: Likely you have not imported everything, which might CSS and possibly even JS data outside the JS itself that you imported that is a wikipedia customized dependency (might integrate with something else done wikipedia side that isn't in default mediawiki), and there may be a conflict with whatever skin you're using locally for your own wiki. This is all vague-speak though - is it still an issue? If so I can try to troubleshoot more deeply, or point someone more experienced to this thread. --Raidarr (talk) 09:10, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
@Raidarr: Both problems (1. the EditTop gadget, 2. Wikiplus) still exist.
For the EditTop gadget, I imported MediaWiki: Gadget-edittop, MediaWiki: Gadget-edittop.css, MediaWiki: Gadget-edittop.js, and MediaWiki: Gadgets-definition. However, I cannot find it in Special: Preferences.
Wikiplus used to work just fine on Miraheze. The only thing I imported was my global.js page.
Thank you very much, XComhghall (talk) 22:15, 13 October 2021 (UTC)

Could you please raise $wgExpensiveParserFunctionLimit

The default limit for expensive parser function calls is 99 and altering the $wgExpensiveParserFunctionLimit in the “Manage this wiki's additional settings” page(s) seems to require: Permissions - managewiki-restricted

Is there any way I could get the limit on my wiki raised to over 200 or higher?

One of the Lua modules in some of the templates I have ported over from Wikipedia is currently asking for 189 parser functions.

Thanks in advance. – Mitchell Gore (talk) 06:35, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

@Mitchell Gore: Has this been answered elsewhere? I'm behind on watching noticeboards, so just checking to see if it has, and if not, point the attention of someone appropriate to this thread. --Raidarr (talk) 09:07, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
@Raidarr: I put in the request at phabricator and got it raised to 200, but the Template:Taxonbar I ported over from Wikipedia is still demanding a higher number of parser functions, so it’s still erroring. I have a second request in to have it raised to a higher number, but it hasn't been raised yet (going on 4 days now). – Mitchell Gore (talk) 17:25, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the notice. I'm afraid it's a waiting game from here, especially if the limit is getting particularly high (at that point they may prefer to see something less expensive used than keep upping the resources). They'll certainly reply eventually, but I know there's a few rather key tasks that just hopped on their plate, so it might be a bit. --Raidarr (talk) 09:24, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Little question

Hello, I have a question. If I decide to change the subject of my wiki, for example change a wiki that talks about the characters of the fiction into a wiki that talks about all the fiction (i.e. characters, weapons, games...) while keeping my content, would I have the right to do so? If so, how? Thanks in advance. Darkrai18 (talk) 14:19, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

@Darkrai18: Are you talking about changing the wiki name? (talk) 19:14, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
I believe they're talking about changing their wikis scope. Agent Isai Talk to me! 19:21, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
I talking about scope, effectively. Darkrai18 (talk) 20:26, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
@Darkrai18: with a community, this must be done with consensus and a clearly defined vote/decision with community support. Without a community I believe this requires special approval to ensure it still fits with Content Policy. That said, I think the change you're making is fairly small and quite reasonable, and there should be no trouble in this case. Just to be safe I'll bring dmehus into it (sorry, I think this is the third ping I've thrown today >.>). --Raidarr (talk) 09:05, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
Well, keep me posted then. Darkrai18 (talk) 17:12, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Marble House of PHP recruiting

Hello user, I have had a website I have created that has been abandoned for some time now, and I want to revive it. The Marble House of PHP is a wiki I created dedicated to storing, collecting, discussing, writing, and storytelling literature. It has been over 6 months since I created the wiki, however, there was 0 contributions or users who edited what so ever.. I have posted this topic to encourage activity in this wiki, and if you have enough activity and contributions, you can become an admin. Book and literature lovers, this site may be for you.

Best regards, Hoxen (talk) 16:28, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately wikis for creative writing on Miraheze in particular let alone in general is heavily oversaturated, and truly serious projects typically use other platforms or create their own wiki for their setting. So time in the wild has nothing to do with traction I'm afraid. --Raidarr (talk) 19:44, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
My intent of the wiki was to be somewhat as Wikisource, but with different measures and policies. But creative writing wikis are truly oversaturated. User:Raidarr--Hoxen (talk) 21:17, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
I wish you well on this; for what it's worth, perhaps you could do more to develop the structure, since refining the platform might help you get more users than it simply being offered as a 'blank slate' on its own. --Raidarr (talk) 09:00, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Suggestion: search in wikidiscover

Why does Special:WikiDiscover not have search? I mean, i could use Ctrl+F but its painful as i need to navigate to every of the pages

I understand it's gonna probably be hard but this just a suggestion

Also, can someone make a physics wiki and computers wiki? Anpang (talk) 01:47, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

A search might be nice to further its usability. I know I've seen physics wikis around, but ironically without a search feature I'm afraid I can't help much. There's AboutPCs for computers, for what it's worth. Though you'd have to put quite a bit of effort into making it happen. In the meantime I'm afraid the Gazetteer of wikis is vaguely your best bet for what it is, and I know it's not an answer here. --Raidarr (talk) 08:58, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

How do I stop the flood of email notifications?

I'm administrator of a wiki. I keep getting email notifications whenever a user edits a page. I specifically set email options to not send me anything but I'm still getting dozens and dozens of emails.

I also tried setting global preferences to no avail.

The only thing that worked outright was to delete my email address.

Should I try anything else? Bulbizarre (talk) 01:38, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi. So here it is. I've set up the Displaytitle extension, which allows the title modified by DISPLAYTITLE to appear in categories, for example. But I would like to remove the "Category:" to show only the "Characters of". I can't remove the "Category:" directly in the DISPLAYTITLE, otherwise it doesn't work. The screenshots of my DISPLAYTITLE (above):

The problem (below):

Thanks in advance. Darkrai18 (talk) 08:25, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Upon investigation on my own wikis, the UrlShortener special page extension is conflicting with custom uses of DISPLAYTITLE. I couldn't tell you how to remedy this so they both work together, but if you can pitch the former you may be able to do a quick solve on this issue. --Raidarr (talk) 09:53, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
But concretely, what do I do? Darkrai18 (talk) 10:03, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
You either disable UrlShortener or put in a phabricator task to see if that behavior is deliberate. I'm not sure, it might be. Either way, that's the conflict I found. --Raidarr (talk) 10:42, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
I disabled urlshortener, but it didn't change anything. I didn't do anything else. --Darkrai18 (talk) 11:02, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
