E - Mail not working[edit | edit source]

I have been trying to start a second wiki and I have to confirm my email, the problem is, everytime i submit it, it says "Meta could not send your confirmation mail. Please check your email address for invalid characters." however my email doesn't contain any invalid characters. Remol (talk) 16:43, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I think you need to use a program called temp mail it gives you a temporary email address Lukas3434 (talk) 21:33, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

my Wiki[edit | edit source]

I created Wiki this week based on one of my favorite shows I had already created my main page but I don't know where to create more pages Lukas3434 (talk) 18:15, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

As long as it is your wiki, you are free to write whatever you want on any page (as long as it does not violate Miraheze's content policy).
For example, if your wiki address is "test.miraheze.org", then "test.miraheze.org/wiki/Here is the name of the page you want to create" will bring up a text box to create the page.    Waki285(talk|contrib|log|CA|Target) 13:12, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How to make a "pop-up" note on my Wiki?[edit | edit source]

I'd like to know if its possible (and how) to make a pop-up "note" on my wiki (FNCDB/Fortnite Crossover Database) similar to the one that talks about cookies with an "OK" button to close it. ZeroPointBookworm (talk) 12:52, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your best bet is to edit MediaWiki:Sitenotice. It displays at the top of the page, but can be dismissed. --Blad (tcg) 15:30, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How do you add a moderator[edit | edit source]

I need a moderator for my Wiki and also another administrator also for my Wiki Lukas3434 (talk) 04:53, 17 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

MediaWiki (the system used by Miraheze) manages user permissions with user groups. For example, the "sysop" group, which exists by default on any wiki created by Miraheze, allows you to do almost anything on the wiki.
User group assignments can be made at Special:UserRights on your wiki.
It is possible to create new user groups with only specified permissions at Special:ManageWiki/permissions on your wiki.
A list of user groups that exist by default in the wiki can be found here.    Waki285(talk|contrib|log|CA|Target) 08:05, 17 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
How can you find user rights where is Lukas3434 (talk) 19:09, 17 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You can see and change the groups a user currently has by entering the user name at Special:UserRights    Waki285(talk|contrib|log|CA|Target) 02:21, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I actually added you as a moderator because I found it in the special pages Lukas3434 (talk) 02:27, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank a Miraheze user[edit | edit source]

Hello all,

We had a discussion on discord today about ways we can acknowledge users who do amazing things and we came up with an idea to publish appreciations users have given out over the last X many months. As a trial, you can send in appreciations via this form (external google form) and after 90 days I will publish a summary of responses. Access to edit the form / view respones is open to anyone with a @wikitide.org email and it may be shared with others too. If this trial is successful, it will be formalised via something open source and an actual policy.  ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 21:19, 17 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Rethinking the new wiki Main Page[edit | edit source]

I have created a userspace page dedicated to rethinking the main pages new wikis start with, found here. The big addition so far is infoboxes, one of the most frequent pitfalls that is not mentioned. Another is to sideline mention of the 'request features' page which has not been relevant in some time in favor of our article describing ManageWiki. Other such critical links should be included but I'm not sure what else would fit. Also adjusted are the links to find help. The note on top of the page offers a revision which is an exact mirror of what new wikis get so you can compare them side by side. Any further changes, suggestions, lines of thinking are welcome. I'm thinking this could go on for a week or so (longer if there's ongoing discussion) and then present it for inclusion. I don't think an RfC is required but I'm not against if others would prefer. --raidarr (💬) 23:44, 20 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Seems to me changing the default new wiki "landing page" should probably be an RfC. It's a global change. And while it might be a no brainer, it should have community review. – Jph2 (talk) 00:22, 21 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Miraheze Wiki -> Meta CORS error?[edit | edit source]

Well, I tried to develop a script to markup stewards and GS that works on all the wikis in Miraheze, but apparently when I try to make an API request (to bring the settings) to Meta, I get a CORS error and it fails. miraheze does not allow API access to Meta from each wiki? Is there an alternative?    Waki285(talk|contrib|log|CA|Target) 00:41, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ajax is a great way to get data from other wiki APIs.
$.ajax({
    url: 'https://meta.miraheze.org/w/api.php',
    data: {
        action: 'query',
            .....
--1108-Kiju/Talk 13:45, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
But I can't do this for CORS error though I'm in Miraheze wikis.
Access to XMLHttpRequest at 'https://meta.miraheze.org/w/api.php?action=query' from origin 'https://discordbot.miraheze.org' has been blocked by CORS policy: No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource.
This was an attempt to send a query request from Miraheze Wiki's discordbotwiki to Meta.    Waki285(talk|contrib|log|CA|Target) 14:18, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If possible, I would like to see the code. 1108-Kiju/Talk 00:46, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
$.ajax({
  url: 'https://meta.miraheze.org/w/api.php',
  data: {
	"action": "query",
	"format": "json",
	"prop": "revisions",
	"titles": "Miraheze",
	"formatversion": "2"
  }
})
very simple code. If you paste this in a non-Meta Miraheze wiki and run it, you will see the error.--   Waki285(talk|contrib|log|CA|Target) 07:53, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This is known and unfortunately expected right now. CORS is not yet configured. See also phab:T11275, reporting wikibase features not working cross-wiki. OrangeStar (talk) 08:23, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Can you please undelete the Fake Interstates and Routes Wiki?[edit | edit source]

I lost motivation and I just found out the Fake Interstates Wiki was deleted. I am very devastated and I was wondering if you could undelete it. Edit wiki closure message[edit | edit source]

Hi, we recently closed a wiki due to us losing all motivation to continue the project. Is there any way to edit the grey notice at the top to reflect this, rather than the typical Dormancy Policy notice? --Blad (tcg) 15:33, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

My advice would actually be to reopen the wiki and allow interested users to contribute to it (there has already been one reopen request for darkwitch.miraheze.org, which I assume is the wiki in question); you can edit the closure message via a MediaWiki page (something along the lines of MediaWiki-wiki-closed; can't remember exact title). The Physical Anthropology Wiki[edit | edit source]

I know that The Physical Anthropology Wiki (physicalanthropology.miraheze.org) was closed due to being seen as controversial, but is there a way that I can backup all the information on that wiki so I can export it somewhere else before it eventually gets deleted? Please, it contains a lot of valuable information. I don't know how to export an entire wiki. Help? Onion1981 (talk) 23:25, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

If you are an admin on the wiki, you should be able to create an .xml dump using "Manage this wiki's backups". If you have images, a dump of them needs to be requested on Steward requests under "Miscellaneous". You could also make a Phorge task. – Jph2 (talk) 00:23, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

no response[edit | edit source]

2 days ago i made a wiki request after they told me it was declined i made a few comments in response to some they asked me and they haven't responded what do i do? Flordia hater (talk) 16:18, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Lately there have been a lot of wiki requests coming in (by looking at the farmer log/ recent changes) so you might have to wait soemtime until the wiki creators can get back to your request. You should just sit tight and be patient. (We dod also have one of our best/modt active wiki creators retire) Commetian Empire (talk°•◇•°CentralAuth) 20:29, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You didn't reopen the request after you added a comment, so no one visibility. I've taken a look and there are still unanswered questions. Please provide additional information and re-open the request to put it back in the review queue. – Jph2 (talk) 20:44, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

CORS and defect[edit | edit source]

The problem with CORS alluded to above seem to be site-wide, not just on Meta.  This is indeed serious if dynamic content is everywhere affected.  Wikis that exist to serve Javascript are, effectively, out-of-service.  I sure hope the problem will be resolved this weekend?  -Erot (talk) 20:16, 23 February 2024 (UTC)  PS: a typical browser log report:-Reply[reply]

I've filled phab:T11897. Don't have much hope on this being done by this weekend though. OrangeStar (talk) 11:25, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You made a typo. It's filed, not filled Collei (talk) (contribs) 14:50, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  1. For some reason, the bold text on the left of the infoboxes that state what type of information is being shown is being centred. If you don't know what I mean, see the Abkhazia and Abkhazian War of Independence pages. In a previous thread, Tali64³ told me to add text-align: left; to the CSS page, but nothing changed.
  2. These templates do not work for some reason.
  3. The native name template that is used on this page isn't working for some reason.

Does anyone know why some pages say "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" on mobile when browsing Miraheze Meta?[edit | edit source]

Interwiki request for dev.miraheze.org[edit | edit source]

"minecraftwiki" - https://minecraft.wiki/w/$1

Because I've imported some templates from there (as part of an effort to make every template's history as complete as possible), and would like the links in places such as https://dev.miraheze.org/wiki/Template:Gadget?action=history to work properly. Pppery (talk) 18:10, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

CSS Global Variables[edit | edit source]

I've been trying to replicate the Infoboxes from the Star Citizen wiki. For that, I've been copying the code for the modules, templates and CSS. However, when I try to copy that one, the editor gives me warnings, saying that certain variables, such as --spacing-md, --spacing-sm, --border-radius--medium, and many more weren't expected as values. Are these variables that come with the skin CSS, or do I have to define them on my own?

The CSS I've been trying to copy, along with the rest of the files from the InfoboxNeue folder, is here Marc155 (talk) 21:18, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's expected, you can ignore it. Pisces (talk) 05:46, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not sure how I can ignore it, since it won't let me create the page. Marc155 (talk) 13:20, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Fix broken translation[edit | edit source]

I apparently cannot update English "translations" so someone with translator rights please change the {{int:Minerva-page-actions-user-groups}} thing to say Default user groups because that system message doesn't exist and makes the page look weird https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Template:Help_navigation/en Collei (talk) (contribs) 04:42, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I might have fixed this with https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/373458...373468 but the /en page is still not updating, I think FuzzyBot needs to run Collei (talk) (contribs) 04:58, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How do I add templates like the ones in wikipedia[edit | edit source]

Wikipedia has some templates like this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars, It shows Mars adjectives, name, image, symbol and technical information about the planet, is there any way to do something like this on Miraheze? If so, could someone teach me, please? Zibelina (talk) 03:23, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Zibelina, I think you're looking for Infoboxes. That page has information on how to get started making them. Labster (talk) 05:04, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Zibelina As a rule of thumb, never import from Wikipedia if you have a choice, it'll only become a tangled mess of dependencies and suffering. More often then not, Dev wiki or some other source will have a simpler version to use. Or, like Labs said, with infoboxes, the guide does a good job. ╚pixDeVl╝ (T|C) 11:14, 28 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
