Name space number

Alternately you could try editing a page in a namespace and adding the text {{NAMESPACENUMBER}} to the page and hitting preview. The number it generates will be the namespace number. Otherwise, if you want to access a full list of namespaces, you can use the API with a query like the one at https://meta.miraheze.org/w/api.php?action=query&meta=siteinfo&siprop=namespaces . -- Void Whispers 18:14, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

Sitenotice, but for Mobile

FAQ#How_do_I_make_a_notice_appear_at_the_top_of_every_page.3F works only for desktop, not for Mobile.

On Mobile the only notice one sees is the Miraheze donations notice.

Translation administrator question

Extension:Translate works fine. I can mark pages for translation but list of rights does not show that I am a Translation administrator. Plus how can I grant a user right to be a Translation administrator if I do not see that in membership groups ?

Electron PDF extension

Hi, since https://github.com/miraheze/mw-config/pull/2852 we've removed the duplicate option of installing Electron. The collection extension is required for the electron extension to work, so enabling just Collection will install electron alongside. My account was being renamed but it stopped getting upgraded 3/4 of the way

I renamed myself from AnimalLovingGuy to ScrewSociety, but since it updated my name on each wiki in alphabetical order by the wiki's name, it stopped at Reception Flame Wars Wiki because the wiki closed down. As a result I lost access to my account a few days ago, and I really want to get it back. Can you please help me?

How can I become an autoconfirmed user?

(this was copied and pasted) I made an account on Miraheze a year ago. On Atrocious Youtubers Wiki, I am still not an autoconfirmed user and it pisses me off. It says I need 10 edits yet I'm not allowed to edit anything on that wiki. Can someone please help me?

How do I change the style of mobile Infoboxes to that of Wikipedia?

I did try that, however it looks different. Is it theme-related possibly? What am I missing? Could I maybe have the mobile theme on my wiki changed? How to transclude one wiki in another?

I have a Miraheze wiki about synth DIY but I want it to include something about electronic theory. That subject is of wider interest than to just synth DIY. So if I have another Miraheze wiki solely about elementary electronic theory, how can I get the pages of that wiki to be included in the synth DIY and/or other wikis, (except perhaps for Main Page)? --Rob Kam (talk) 11:01, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

You can have the wiki which you want to include on other wikis added to the interwiki list with the interwiki transclusion option enabled. This will require that the setting Enable scary transclusion (under Special:ManageWiki/settings) is enabled, and that the new interwiki prefix has transclusion enabled. -- Void Whispers 17:59, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

NewUserMessage Signature

I recently added the NewUserMessage extension to my wiki. Unfortunately, it always includes a signature below the template, like so:

But now I have a different problem. When I try to log in to my wiki, I get an error saying "The supplied credentials could not be authenticated". When I try "Forgot your password?", it says "The password reset was not handled. Maybe no provider was configured?". Oddly, I can log in here, but I keep getting logged out every few minutes. Hmm, I guess I need to fix that problem. Say, I'll revert MediaWiki:Newusermessage-editor, and you can create an account that is only used for the purpose. What setting or extension made my link displays as its redirect target?

In rs.miraheze.org, if I add a link to a redirect page, then it displays as its redirect target page name. For example, in rs.miraheze.org, "Template:Documentation" will redirect to "Template:文档", then if I merely input "[[Template:Documentation]]", it will display as its redirect target "Template:文档". Please help to undo some text weirdness on template wiki

@Rob Kam: Yes. It was me. But problem is, first time when I edited this page, there was no interface admin program on any wiki. But NOW (and obviously when i tried to edit second time) this is here. So that, nobody can't be able to change special pages (like Mediawiki or css) without Interface Admin, Bureaucrat or Steward right. Also needs fixing that when I edit my sandbox I get a message "Content that violates any copyrights will be deleted. Encyclopedic content must be verifiable. Work submitted to Wikipedia can be edited, used, and redistributed—by anyone—subject to certain terms and conditions." and a couple of redlinks "Group notice" and "Page notice". How do I get rid of this?

Help needed trying to get transcluded templates to function.

If for example say on modularwiki I do {{raw:templatewiki:Cite book}}, I get Script error: No such module "citation/CS1". because instead of including it with the transclusion, it's looking for the module on modularwiki. So then I try to also separately transclude the module with {{raw:templatewiki:Module:Citation/CS1}} I get Error: Lua error at line 1: unexpected symbol near '{'. I could import all the Lua modules that get errored about into modularwiki as required, but when importing there's an option "Include templates" which kind of defeats the point of transcluding templates.

Inline SVG usage in MediaWiki?

Hello, can I ask a question about MediaWiki/Miraheze features?

I'm planning to show a map with some clickable inner-wiki links, and created a vector map image file (.svg).

I tried to use <svg> - </svg>tag to show image, but the tag has showed as plain-text, even with {{#tag:}} command.

How can I use inline SVG in MediaWiki? or could anyone tell me the way to implement showing vector image with inner-wiki links (for text object)?--Mtetrag (talk) 14:11, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

MediaWiki documentation says this is possible. The configuration must be changed, upload of SVG files must be enabled, and the person revising the configuration must decide what tool will render the images, or if they will be downloaded and rendered by the browser. Several MW extensions are not supported on Miraheze because they open security holes, and I haven't checked to see if SVG is among them. Spıke (talk)17:38 30-Jan-2020

SVG are blurry instead.

At simpleelectronicswiki the SVG images are displaying blurred, in Google Chrome, IE and Firefox. The point of SVG is that they scale to any size without degradation. How to fix this please? --Rob Kam (talk) 13:04, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

I don't know the exact fix, but the MediaWiki document I link to above says wiki administrators (you or Phabricator?) select one of several methods of rendering SVGs, and these have different levels of quality. Spıke (talk)13:17 6-Feb-2020

How to implement modules into Miraheze?

So, I have made a wiki for myself and I keep running into problems with modules. Since this is my first time I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but for my template I got from another wiki, it keeps saying: Script error: No such module “Infobox” and Script error: No such module “documentation”. I went and got the modules from the Miraheze meta or whatever you call it and copied the text, then put it into notepad and saved them as Infobox.xml and documentation.xml. When I tried to import them I got an error saying: Import failed: Expected <mediawiki> tag, got. If anyone knows how to import modules I’ll love to know as I have no clue on what I’m doing. Hi, I recommend starting with a simple module. The Module documentation seems quite complex to me, and the documentation on login wiki contains a lot of red links. So this might not be the ideal starting point for learning Lua, Lily (Lilypond Wiki) 13:35, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

The infobox template on my wiki doesn't work properly

Hi, I've a problem with the template "infobox". Basically, in every other wiki, including wikipedia, the page of the infobox template shows a sort of rectangle with the borders of the infobox. I've pasted the code of the template that I copied from this Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox), but in my own wiki the infobox is not shown and if I try to use the template in other pages the infobox appears as a sort of blue rectangle without borders…

Hope I'm not too late, but Wikipedia infoboxes require a lot of stuff to make sure they work. Have you imported the modules and updated the .CSS styles on your wiki to allow for it to function properly?--Amelia (talk) 17:03, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

It's the listed address where official things get sent to that are still done by post and used anywhere that needs an address. Is it allowed to have Special pages blocked, as in https://unicodesubsets.miraheze.org/ , allowed?

So, if you add a namespace and name it Special, it will override the natural ability to go to actual Special pages and therefore, as the page to manage namespaces is itself a Special page, it blocks Special pages permanently. PiotrGrochowski (talk) 11:19, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

I intend to create a RfC on or after 28/02/2020 to make the 'Dealing with Online Harassment' guideline a global guidance page.

This will also include the following new requirement for Oversighters, CheckUsers, Stewards, CVT, CoCC members: Users in the listed groups must confirm they have read and agree to follow the 'Dealing with Online Harassment Guidelines'. Failure to follow this guideline may result in action being taken up to and including the removal of rights.

Agreement to the policy must be given within 28 days of the RfC closing (or as approved by the community).

The following line will also be added to the CoC's definition of harassment if approved as part of the RfC: "Repeated failure to handle harassment appropriately and in accordance with guidelines despite warning".

You are encouraged to give feedback or translate the above guidance.

Community Directors

Hello,

I have now closed Community Directors/Election Commission/2019 Election/Vote with a no consensus for any candidate as not enough people voted. Despite 20 users casting votes, they did not all vote for a candidate so more users would have been needed for any single candidate to pass. I'd like to open a thread to determine what the community would like to do next.

Please consider the below options. This is not a formal RfC but will precede one. Dependant on responses, I will book a Miraheze Meetings slot on 21st January to discuss this as well.

  • Should the community lower or remove the minimum number of voters requirement?
  • Is the community in a position to elect Directors at this time?
  • Is an election commission needed?
  • Should voting limits be changed for Directors as well?
  • What about other advanced roles?

I would definitely disagree with removing a minimum number for both directors and commissioners, as we must guarantee that many members of the community agree with the proposals. I have to argue that, at least for the first year, the Miraheze community is not in a condition to vote for directors. As it appears, a lot of this information has just been sprung on several people, who do not fully understand what it means for Miraheze to be owned by an independently acting corporation. I don't want to waste an opportunity such as this just because enough people didn't vote. I wanted to vote, but I wasn't eligible, so there was also that. Just because someone's account is new doesn't mean they can't understand who they should vote for, but I understand why that rule is there; to prevent inexperienced users from doing something hasty, and to prevent sockpuppets from voting.     It was open for the maximum period allowed and advertised across IRC, Discord and wikis via various methods. If you want to adjust policy, open an RfC to change it and ask that the rules are changed in that then open a vote to restart elections. 3 did NOT win under policy unfortunately.     I concur with Rhinos. Rule of Law says we agree on the card game before we look at our own cards! Wicky, it may seem fine to you to just invent an outcome. Might seem fine to me too if I were a candidate and didn't get a majority but did pretty well compared to the others. Point is, if we don't hold to the announced rules, things could get subjective and contentious. Your point is valid that, despite good announcement and ample time, response was anemic. Anyone familiar with the Coord template?

Been a while since I posted here but as the heading suggests, is there anyone with any understanding of the Coord Template? I installed it a while back and couldn’t figure it out then. Now, I am working on a tabs template and I would like to use coordinates within it. I am currently getting a Validator-fatal-error message (here) when it renders and I don’t know why or how to fix this. It may be because the references from https://cartodb-basemaps-d.global.ssl.fastly.net aren't listed on our whitelist of cross-site scripts (at least, it's the reason we can't see the map properly). @開拓者: I didn't know the Coord template and Maps extension were somehow inter-connected. I can see the maps on my tablet and phone but they don't display at all on the computer and laptop in any browser. How does adding references from the aforementioned website to Miraheze's whitelist of cross-site scripts fix the Validator error? I have no idea what any of that really means, and will doing that display the maps correctly with the Maps extension across all devices? An Indepth Explanation of Elaborate Shirtposters Wiki Request

Hello,

A couple of friends and I are working on a project (although anyone is welcome to join) that I hope you might find interesting. I am a bit worried that the name of the requested wiki which we hope to document our findings with, "Elaborate Shirtposters", may be seen as too silly or just a bad joke. It is a bad joke, and certainly silly, but not a tasteless one.

The idea behind it is documenting and analyzing obscure literary, academic, and philosophical works in articles and art project proposals which on the surface or initially appear to be in the style of a "shitpost." A "shitpost" is internet terminology for a piece of media, typically written or visual, that speaks less to how one really feels or believes something to be, but more to a humorous and easily felt interpretation that is often seen as absurd or which misinterprets important concepts.The reason for this choice of format is not for the purpose of low effort articles, hence the elaborate part of the name, but because many of these works are already presented in such a manner along with the hopes of allowing the creativity of individuals to be put to full use in explaining why these works are so fascinating, or could be fascinating. The name itself is meant to exemplify this, it takes inspiration from the French play Ubu Roi which begins with the word "merdre" which is the french word for shit, "merde", with an 'r' added.

The "Replace Text" tool is not working on a wiki I'm active on.

When I try using said tool, I get an error message stating the following: "text replacements cannot be run if $wgCompressRevisions is set to true."

How to resend registration mails

I created a few new user accounts for our wiki last weekend with the option "Use a temporary random password and send it to the specified email address". Probably due to the maintenance, not all users received those mails. My question is now if there is a way to resend those mails such that the users are able to log in to their accounts.

I looked through the special pages but can't find anything user account related except for the CreateAccount page, though I checked that I cannot recreate the accounts as the username is already registered. I looked under the "tools" section on the user page of one of the newly created accounts as well, but did not find an option to reset the password there either.

As far as I see I do have all possible permissions for our wiki with the bureaucrat, admin, autopatrolled, Interface administrator, ect roles. Is there probably some setting that needs to be checked before I can reset passwords? Or was I just looking in the wrong places so far? Any pointers would be appreciated. About Me

I seem to have a habit of asking near strangers deep questions.

So... I get stressed easily and I don't really think I am very good (at doing things or being good in general). I am very pessimistic (even though I fool myself into being optimistic sometimes). Lock edit function for non registered users?

You can changed the permissions for anonymous users. Click on * in the Special:ManageWiki/permissions and click on "Sumbit". Then uncheck the things that allow them to edit.

Links with apostrophes don't work

I was wondering if anyone was having issues with links that have apostrophes. I have noticed that when linking to another wiki page where the title has an apostrophe, the link still appears red as seen on this glossary page. Those pages definitely exist and typing in the search box those pages appear in the drop down list but clicking on the link takes you to the usual 'create page.' I'd call it a bug! Double- and triple-apostrophes are commands in wikicode because they never appear naturally in English, but single apostrophe often does. You can imagine that MediaWiki would choke if generating HTML starting with url='https:// and ending with the page name, but it ought to do the right thing! Can't diagnose it further. Your glossary page might work around this with a piped link, replacing apostrophe with %25. Spıke (talk)13:37 6-Mar-2020
@Spike: Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't thought to try that but when I did it didn't work. The address of other apostrophe links show %27 but that didn't work either. I won't pretend I know anything about unicodes etc. I did a quick search for replacement apostrophe codes of which &#39; and &#apos; also didn't work, however, the right side single quotation mark &#8217; did work. Then @Borderman:, in contrast with your opening, you are not having issues with links that have apostrophes, but rather issues with something else. I followed your link to view its source and see if there was another pattern that explains it, but I see no red-links at all (except to the page named Signs, and to the article's talk page). @Spike: Yeah, to be honest I don’t really know what was happening, it was all hit and miss but after using the syntax for the right side single quotation mark, everything was fine, ergo, no red links any more. I have created other pages with apostrophes in the title and subsequently included links to those pages also using apostrophes and those seemed to work. One key to avoiding red-links is that the text in the link must be exactly the name of the page, and you may be one of the many editors who believes that those Curlicue Thingies are all interchangeable, just because they look similar! @Spike: I think everyone has made a typo once or twice whilst doing links, which is why I proofread my edits and that particular newbie mistake is extremely rare. I have, however, noticed that depending on which device I am using dictates what kind of apostrophe or quotation marks is used (' or ’) ("" or „“) in the text editor. For the "last edited" line you can change that at MediaWiki:Lastmodifiedat and the "Content is available" line can be edited at MediaWiki:Copyright. Regarding the links, it depends what you want to do with them: hide, rename, remove etc. The Privacy Policy and Terms of Use link back to Meta; About and Disclaimers are pages on your own wiki. Changing the links, for example, to link it somewhere else is done using <a href=" link here </a> I believe but I can't remember where, sorry. Borderman (Talk) 20:31, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

AutoWikiBrowser doesn't seem to want to accept the completely valid Miraheze wiki URL I added into "custom", in Preferences.

Flamebait/Trollbait Wikis

I have some concerns about wikis are are becoming flamebaits or trollbaits. Some of the wikis hosted here in Miraheze are probably triggering flamewars or trolling like Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki, Atrocious Deviants Wiki, & Atrocious YouTubers Wiki.

There are many complaints/rants from users outside Miraheze about these 3 wikis. These are possible samples: (1) (2)*.

*Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki moved to this site from FANDOM due to being a Trollbait/Flamebait.

Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki is not a trollbait/flamebait wiki; it just provides facts (not biased opinions) to each hatedom or fandom that can exist. Anyone that inserts bias will get blocked on the wiki. The wiki is informative, and not the kind for causing heat. I don't know about the other two wikis, but I am sure TF&HW is okay to exist. I don't think what it really suppose to be, the wiki itself is becoming trollbait/flamebait. Even how hard you try to disprove it, it will become a trollbait/flamebait eventually. I had a look and comparing it with the Content Policy, I don't find any real violations of the policy. It would be extremely useful to have evidence of specific examples to look at. On an off-topic note - the huge amount of reoccurring emails we receive regarding this wiki don't help the case being forward either. If anything, the existence of this wiki consumes our time by the number of people who email us the same content rather than the need to investigate issues. As a team, Stewards are extremely overran either in terms of personal, professional or other commitments in general/Miraheze specific. While we appreciate the time this has taken to get a response is not acceptable, the constant inundation of emails we receive does far from give us time to look at this matter. Therefore to summarise what I said - I don't see anything specific needing action here. I'd request people provide specific examples of things which violate the Content Policy or local policies and if possible - please attempt to resolve this locally before coming to us. We explicitly act in a capacity to fill holes where they exist - not to act as an overriding authority people can use to skip local community avenues. Abuse Filter Problems.

I thought I had it, but I didn't. It didn't work and it just blocked editing all together. I was hoping someone here could inform me of how I can create a filter that can block certain words from being published? I thought I figured out a formula but I just fooled myself. It doesn't work. Careful with those abuse filters! Fortunately, editing an abuse filter is not "editing" and you should be able to go back in and undo your work; if not, contact a steward. At Uncyclopedia, we used to have a tool called "SpamRegex" (until Wikia took it away from us!) that does exactly what you want (using UNIX "regular expressions" for pattern-matching). Still have issues with the coordinates template

Validator fatal error message

Last month I asked if anyone had knowledge of the Coord template. @開拓者: replied here and the upshot was to file a phabricator ticket to attempt to fix the issue with maps not displaying properly, which I did here It has been actioned but I am still having the same problem with maps not displaying properly in all browsers. However, my original request was for the Coord template showing a Validator-fatal-errormessage and that is still coming up every time I use the following {{Coord|45.87958|4.80887|display=inline}} to display the coordinates. The coordinates render, but not properly as seen in the image. I don't know what Validator is or what it's trying val pagidate but it's messing things up and I haven't the faintest idea how to fix it. Any suggestions? Thanks. "make" is a question of what "make" refers to. Miraheze has no confirmed and steady financial income. It's all one-off donations. Over the past 3 years, Miraheze has made losses of:
  • $494 in 2019;
  • $1134 in 2018;
  • a profit of $1456 (but there was a one time $1910 donation).
2016 formed our first full year, so there had to be a profit, therefore, I'm not considering it here. So, over the past 3 years, Miraheze has made losses. We stay afloat, but it's because of one-off large donations. For other information:
  • Miraheze has made a total income of $5650 for 2016-2018.
  • $2712 has been donated by organisations in a one-off donation.
  • $1040 has been donated by a single person over 2016-2018 (Labster).

I'm a newbie at working Miraheze and infoboxes aren't working

Hello I'm sort of new to Miraheze and I'm trying to add infoboxes to a wiki and I followed the Void tutorial, but even after putting in MediaWiki:common.css and common.js, they still look like this: https://speakoniacommunity.miraheze.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_person

Greetings @SavageBoy69. I believe your problem is that you are still missing some modules. Try exporting and importing the following modules:
  • Module:Check for unknown parameters
  • Module:InfoboxImage
  • Module:Separated entries

Infoboxes don't work on my wiki

So I'm reporting the same problem once again. On my wiki, MyPersonal, the template 'Infobox' that I pasted from the Miraheze Template Wiki just doesn't work. I don't know how to solve the problem and if I lose my patience I'll move to another wiki hosting service. A while ago I reported the same problem, but the paragraph I wrote on this exact page was cancelled. I don't know who did it, why they did it or if I did something wrong or not, but if you didn't want to help me or want to solve the problem, you could just have answered me. @WhiteWolf69: First of all, last time when you asked for help you did so on an archive page where people don't actively look because it is a page used for archiving. Second, I think you should be more understanding and acknowledge that this is a free service provided by volunteers, instead of threatening to move to another hosting service which will not change anything or make us deal with your request in any other way. As for the issue itself "doesn't work" isn't enough for us to know anything you would have to give us a link or an error for us to be able to look into it. YouTube extension

mw:Extension:YouTube says that Nicovideo is one of the supported video sites of the extension. However it doesn't work on Miraheze. I looked at the code and saw that code for several video sites, including Nicovideo, is commented out. What is the reason for this? Could it be re-enabled? URL Change for Two Wikis

I need the URLs and names for two of my wikis to be changed. The first wiki URL, ashesworld.miraheze.org, should be redirected to brokenthrones.miraheze.org and renamed to "Broken Thrones". The second wiki URL, kidal.miraheze.org, should be redirected to shatteredskies.miraheze.org and renamed to "Shattered Skies", if it isn't too much trouble. Thank you all for the work that you do.

Help! Need to use Visual Editor, but don't understand how/where install Parsoid

I've used Wikipedia's Visual Editor but can't figure how to use it here. I've activated in Extensions, but then read Parsoid has to be set up first. I don't know where local settings.php is? Also, do I just paste the standard code that is listed on Parsoid help entry? Or something else? I'm working on Coronavirus-related project & trying to get rolling with adding content ASAP. If you've enabled it in Special:ManageWiki/extensions, you don't have to worry about Parsoid, we've already got it setup for you and configured automatically. Visual editor should start working within 10-20 minutes of when it was last enabled. For the logo, you probably just need to clear your browser's cache. Also, note that the logo will not display properly if the image is not smaller than 135px by 135px. -- Void Whispers 17:57, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Can't add extensions

This appears to be related to a session issue. Please logout of login & your wiki. So e.g https://login.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:UserLogout & https://<your_wiki>.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:UserLogout. If that does not work, delete your cookies for both wikis, then go to those url. I can't edit

I was trying to edit at Giantess Wiki (giantess.miraheze.org), and it told me I cannot edit due to a loss of session data. I tried logging out in the wiki, but it's giving me the code "badtoken".

At where you delete your cookies for individual sites, instead of deleting only for (your wiki name).miraheze.org, search "miraheze" and delete everything found. Exact procedure vary by browser. Just google how to delete cookies for individual sites only (and not all sites). If somehow you can't do it, just press Ctrl+Shift+Del and choose to delete all cookies.
