How do you change your signature?

I want to change my signature to "Thank u, next, Eiji". But I don't know how. Eijitheawesome (talk) 20:21, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

@Eijitheawesome: You can do this from Special:Preferences. Please ensure you select the 'treat this as wiki markup' box. I would suggest somewhere linking to your user and/or user talk page. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat) · CA · contribs · Rights - on) 20:34, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

An error with the Flow extension

Every time I try to post a link on a flow discussion, I get this error.

The only way I can bypass this error is by removing the link destination by using <nowiki></nowiki> or removing it. Can you fix it?

Lilypond Version

I am using the extension Score, which is using Lilypond 2.18.2. Most of my scores require 2.19.x, so I am very limited with the use of the extension. Is there planned to update Lilypond any time soon? Greetings Manuela (talk) 07:04, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

@Manuela:  Done updated to 2.19.81. Reception123 (talk) (C) 07:14, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
Wow, that was really fast! Thank you very much, when will I see the change in my wiki? Manuela (talk) 14:41, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Finding Wikis which use a specific extension

Hi, is there a possibility to find out which wikis on Miraheze use a specific extension? And how can I find wikis with recent edits? Thanx, Lily (talk) 04:48, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

@Lily: There is no extension or automatic process to do so. The only way you could find out would be to ask a sysadmin to take a look at any specific extensions (so please feel free to ask me and I will provide a list). As for wikis with recent edits, that is also currently not possible but you can take a look at Special:WikiDiscover and Gazetteer of wikis. 06:04, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer, I am interested in the extension Score. I have already been looking on Special:WikiDiscover, but many wikis there are closed or private. Gazetteer of wikis ok wow 319.450 pages, that is a lot Lily (talk) 06:52, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
@Lily: these wikis have Score enabled. Reception123 (talk) (C) 07:09, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
Thank you so much, Lily (talk) 07:45, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
I have checked it out, unfortunately there is an extension called Contribution Scores. It seems that every wiki that has this extension activated pops up in your list, too. Lily (talk) 08:04, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

@Lilly: 2.18.2 is the latest stable version as far as I can tell. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 19:35, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

My wiki was recently vandalized, and I want to prevent this from happening. So how do I make it so that all edits from normal users have to be reviewed?

Thank u, next, Eiji (talk) 20:03, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Extension:Moderation --Rob Kam (talk) 22:30, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
But please consider the trade-offs. Your users won't see their edits on the page until they are moderated, and may become less enthusiastic about contributing.
Vandalism is redressed globally by the CVT as well as local Admins. The "patrol" feature can help local Admins focus on edits from non-trusted users that a trusted user has not yet reviewed. The Abuse Filter can block vandalism and vandals automatically if it follows a pattern. Spıke (talk)01:30 23-Sep-2019

Accounts policy

Hello, comrades.
It becomes increasingly hard to be a free-thinker in Wikimedia wikis, particularly expressing thoughts critical of privileged or highly active users. Uploading certain content and making certain statements is too dangerous for a person holding some positions in wikis, especially for a public person. May a group of Wikimedians register an account here on Miraheze for that rôle? No problem to notify Miraheze top management (such as John F. Lewis) about identity of actual operators – this information just may not leak to the Wikimedia’s establishment. Again, this is not to sow deception on Miraheze, only to protect career of users abroad (specifically, in Wikimedia projects). Incnis Mrsi (talk) 13:55, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

I am only one vote and not a policymaker, but would strongly object to using Miraheze to start or prolong a vendetta arising on some other website. It is not a problem with Wikimedia nor inappropriate protection of "privileged" users so much as a human reaction to injecting drama into any society. It is not hard to be a free-thinker on-line. Spıke (talk)18:17 29-Sep-2019
I, personally, do not see an issue with this as long as such activity does not affect the reputation of Miraheze in a negative light. John (talk) 22:54, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
A valid difference of opinion. At the least, importation of drama would be blocked at any wiki I administer as incompatible with the aims of the wiki. I concede it's unlikely to affect Miraheze's reputation, but solely because it's a tiny fraction of activity here, not because it's a healthy thing. Spıke (talk)02:08 30-Sep-2019

Add to Google Search

Hello! How to make my site searchable through Google? --Kwack (talk) 08:31, 24 September 2019 (UTC)

@Kwack: It's based on Google's PageRank system, so if users wanna find your wiki, they'd have to explicitly search for "your wiki name" Miraheze. But for some wikis, if the wiki is a specific popular subject and there is a Miraheze wiki that exists about such subject, then the wiki will probably show in Google Search. Like searching "2b2t wiki" will show a Miraheze wiki link as the first result. –Ανδρέας talk | contributions 22:52, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

I’ve seen a lot of people who want to become a Miraheze sysadmin. Why are they still “volunteers” and not “staff”? Basically, anyone who at least have autopatrol and/or rollback/wiki creator is automatically automatically a “staff” and they should be “paid”. Why are the best local staff members not paid for managing the Miraheze servers? OwenFung87 06:26, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

@OwenFung87: Staff is higher than the rights you've mentioned and I don't know any wiki that pays a rollbacker or normal contributors and we don't do this for money. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 14:15, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Additionally, should RhinosF1 be paid by Southparkfan? OwenFung87 06:26, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

@OwenFung87: I wouldn't accept payment as I chose to do this in my free time for everyone's good as I enjoy it. I'm not wanting money out of this. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 14:15, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
  •  Comment: Also, please be aware of your RfC restrictions as while it seems to be a polite question at this point, I can see this easily breaching the spirit of your sanctions. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 14:15, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
@RhinosF1: I am not trying to breach my sanctions, once again, I am just asking questions about Miraheze that will extremely unlikely to be happening (e.g. real meetings with WMF staff). I will always keep it to my user subpage for "fake proposals" that will not be converted into "real" proposals until my sanction has been ended. I promise that I will never violate my sanction and feel free to address any concerns. I will accept a request for a global ban if I ever violate my sanctions. Thank you. I will not officially appeal this restriction until I am at the age of 16 and my parents and friends allow me to do that, although this may be changed or exempted if there is a need (e.g. Miraheze is to be incorporated, which will never happen anytime soon). Sincerely, Owen Jason Fung (Student, Hong Kong International School) Please note that I will not accept any face to face meetings, until, again, I am at the age of 16. --OwenFung87 12:48, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
@OwenFung87: I don't want you to think that I thought you were attempting to violate them, I just wanted to make it clear that it can't become a proposal. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 14:37, 3 October 2019 (UTC)

After enabling the Flow extension, you have to change content model for talk namespaces. Follow these steps to do so:
  1. Go to Special:ManageWiki/namespaces page on your wiki.
  2. Select the corresponding subject namespace of talk namespace where you want to enable Flow.
  3. Move to "Talk namespace" tab.
  4. Change content model of it to flow-board.
  5. Move to "Submit" tab.
  6. Type the reason you want to enable Flow and press Submit.
It may take several minutes to apply settings. You may need to delete existing talk pages to show up Flow there instead. - P1av0rSe01Complaint? 11:02, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

Username policy

Following the closure of Requests for Comment/Username policy (2), the Username Policy has been created. However, there are a few things that still need to be clarified better.

  1. The global community is invited to create more complete definitions of offensive, insulting, harassing, and trolling to complement the first and last criteria. Note that an existing definition for harassment exists in the Code of Conduct.
  2. The community is invited to consider the creation of a Request for Comments/Usernames page per the proposal at Requests for Comment/Username policy (2)#Amendment 2 to the enforcement section (Provision for RfC/U).

For any clarification of the new policy, please ask below. For completion of these two clarifications, I'd recommend starting a new (sub)section, but you can do whatever you want. -- Void Whispers 23:46, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

  1. @Void: However, since Proposal 3 does not pass, if the locking user/or any wikis interfered with the user/or the whole Miraheze community has a large contradiction, users/staff may have to meet face-to-face or even lead to a Supreme Court decision. OwenFung87 12:53, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
    @OwenFung87: I doubt a supreme court will rule on a Username policy but one of the proposals in RfC part 2 may ease you. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 13:29, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

The Notorious IHateShippers Is Totally Out Of Control

With all his 43 sock accounts (and more), this troll went from being a noxious shipper hater back from April 2019 to a heartless cyberbully of mine in August 30, 2019; and he's going crazy! Is there a way to actually get him out of Miraheze forever so that he can leave all of the wikis he visits alone at last?

For example, how do I use the abuse filter so that his accounts get automatically blocked the next time he makes another one? And how do I auto-delete troll pages?

Usually, he'd make troll pages that are about giving me rape threats by sending fictional characters, memes and internet users. Sometimes, he makes immature rants about everything he hates such as ships, bad games and bad companies. Sometimes, those things above can be the name of his next sock account and not just hate pages he makes.

Language template help

My wiki project has yet another template problem. I'm trying to integrate a language template to the wiki, and all I get is "Lua error in Module:Unicode_data at line 15: attempt to call field 'length' (a nil value).". Several other templates on the wiki apparently have that same unresolvable problem. Is there a way to fix Lua errors? Thanks. ManiacACS (talk) 15:29, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

Questions about Wikibase

Hi! I recently requested a wiki (https://nbdb.miraheze.org/) and I've enabled the Wikibase Repository. I have some questions:

  • Is there a way to move items to the main namespace, instead of using their own Item: NS? I know the MediaWiki docs show a way, but not sure if Miraheze offers this option (if not, no problem. Just wondering).
  • Secondly, and more importantly, I don't find the option to add statements to items. For example, this test item I created. The Statements header exists, but there is no edit button for that section. I think I already assigned all wikibase-related permissions to admins, but maybe I missed some? Apparently it works now. I'm guessing the installation needed some time to configure everything.
  • Also, if I understand it correctly, the extension that lets a wiki connect with another wikibase installation to display data from it is the Wikibase Client, which is not available for now, right? However, is there a way to fetch data from a Wikibase Repository installed in the same wiki without having the Client?

I think that's all for now. Thanks in advance! --Ondo (talk) 12:06, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

Dan Jacobson thinking of moving his two wikis to Miraheze

Hello. I am getting old and don't want to maintain MediaWiki any more and thus am thinking of moving my two sites,

to Miraheze, however they probably will very quickly run aground of the Dormancy Policy, as the former very likely will have no more activity, due to the author's age, and the latter less and less activity, as radios are all going digital, as we note on each page that describes a organization that no longer is scannable.

Anyway tell me if my wikis could be exist on Miraheze forever even if not being active (qualify as Dormancy exceptions). I note as I use Let's Encrypt, the wikis could be moved to Miraheze without the users even noticing a change in the URL! Thanks. Jidanni (talk) 02:53, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

@Jidanni: That should be fine, since the pages are meant to be read that would qualify as a dormancy exception. You can request an import and custom domain on Phabricator after you have requested your wikis. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:40, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

CoCC election

Hoi,

last year, CoCC election for 2018-2019 begun at 2018-11-02, which is about the last day without 'no CoCC day'. To avoid last-minute elections and co, I think we'd better start the stuff early, preferably starting next week. If nobody opposes, I will create election pages after 00:01, 24 October 2019 (UTC).

We might want to fix the election date, maybe 3 weeks before the expiration of the current CoCC? Maybe this is RFC matter. Currently, there is no provision on the selection of CoCC other than supplementary provision's "The seat for community-elected member will follow Miraheze Meta Requests for Permissions procedures". We might incorporate this into the CoCC rules via RFC, again.

+ I'm not running for re-election, I'd rather serve as a guy who creates annual election pages. We probably don't need bureaucracy like English Wikipedia ACE, we just need someone to create pages. — revi 05:41, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

I think it's decent to start next week so we can have enough time to vote for the new commission. Reception123 (talk) (C) 12:02, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

i'd like to be able to programmatically get the latest versions of wiki pages. Should i access the database or the API or something else?

I'd like to

  • disseminate the most recent version of the data on the wiki in different formats—LaTeX, HTML—
  • and to be able to fork the wiki—i remember hearing some people in Saskatchewan would like to do that.

I've heard the using the API can be a bit taxing on the server, is there a better way to go about downloading pages?

Thanks! PermeateCalgary (talk) 01:02, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

@PermeateCalgary: If you're going to fork the wiki taking a current database dump and importing it elsewhere is probably the best. If you just want to regularly fetch the latest content, using the API is probably better than just scraping the pages, although you should rate-limit whatever tool you use to do so regardless. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 01:40, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

It's on Atrocious YouTubers Wiki. Thank u, next, Eiji (talk) 23:47, 5 November 2019 (UTC)
I see you have the Nuke extension enabled. This is probably the most direct route you can take to delete all those thread pages (I'm guessing they came from Wikia). A couple of options I can think of:
  1. Add all the pages into categories manually or with something like AutoWikiBrowser (probably not the most desirable)
  2. Create a Thread: namespace in ManageWiki, then nuke the entire namespace. The namespace can be deleted afterwards.
Somebody else might have a better idea, but these are what I can think of off the top of my head. Dross (talk) 01:01, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
@Dross: So how do I create a new namespace? Thank u, next, Eiji (talk) 06:45, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

Examknow RfC Closure

Hi,

I'd like to make it clear that I am not happy with the desicion to not implement 2 of the proposals of the Examknow RfC. I will be taking steps to ensure that the desicion is implemented and the community has a chance to show their opinion later today.

I have personally decided that effective immediately, until the communities desicion is implemented I will not be dealing with anything on Miraheze other than ensuring implementation of this is done to the community's requirement.Withdrawn, no community support for continued action

I will also note that I have asked Examknow to resign.

Thanks,

~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 07:01, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Proposal 3 was only a recommendation which group contacts discussed and decided in line with behaviour, it was not appropriate to revoke the cloak. Community oversight does not exist on IRC as it is ran by Miraheze representatives and not the community, likewise with Discord. John (talk) 07:42, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
I did not participate in the Examknow RFC as I do not believe it is my role to engage with potential rights abuses by other users. However, looking at the evidence and accusations I must state that I can't possibly reach a conclusion as so much hinges on evidence which is not just undisclosed but undescribed. I do however think that more than anything this highlights the problems with manual wiki creation which I have discussed repeatedly upon the Discord. ~ El Komodos Drago (talk to me) 17:06, 8 November 2019 (UTC)

Regarding the take-down of supporting executable file extensions

I have received this notice of Miraheze taking down supports on .exe and other executable files, and I would like to have all the target extension types provided.

My biggest concern is whether a zip file could be targeted as well (because .exe or any other types of executable files can be included within them), as I distribute free mods of a game called Minetest (that is, say, an open source and free version of Minecraft also officially approving distribution of mods) on one of my wikis, and there I upload these mod files with a zip format.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 09:37, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

Define license policie for Miraheze Commons

Next I have two proposals for politics.

Miraheze Commons only accepts free content, i.e. images and other multimedia files that are not subject to copyright restrictions, which would prevent them from being used by anyone, at any time and for any purpose. In short, you only accept images and multimedia files under one of the Creative Commons licenses including Non-Derived and Non-Commercial. Images that are copyrighted and did not prove permission will be deleted.

Miraheze Commons accepts free content images, i.e. images and other multimedia files that are not subject to copyright restrictions, which would prevent them from being used by anyone, at any time and for any purpose. You also accept content under the assumption of Fair Use[1], provided that the author who uploaded the file resides in a country where fair use is accepted. In summary, images and multimedia files are accepted under Creative Commons and Fair Use licenses. Images that are copyrighted and did not prove permission or do not warrant the Fair Use will be deleted.

[1] Text in Wikimedia Commons to note: In addition, fair use depends on the context in which the image (or other medium) is used. That is, something that can be used on one page under the assumption of fair use could be a copyright infringement on another. In particular, the fair use scenario does not allow images to be collected and distributed in a multimedia database such as Wikimedia Commons. This means that fair use simply does not apply to Wikimedia Commons.

Thank you for your comments. Greetings. -Hispano76 (talk) 00:37, 17 November 2019 (UTC)

How can I remove bureaucrat status from a user?

@IAmEiji: mh:horriblevyonderswiki:Special:ManageWiki/permissions/bureaucrat#mw-section-group is the page to manage group assignments for 'crat. You'll want to use this setting to allow Bureaucrat to remove the Bureaucrat group. A better, albeit more complicated solution would be to create a new user group which has the ability to add or remove 'crat, that way it eliminates the possibility of 'crats removing each other. See mh:guide:Special:ListGroupRights#manager for example. dross (tcg) 16:29, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

Typing error at requesting my wiki, what to do now?

I requested and now already got it, thanks for this fast work, the kujum wiki. But now I have learned, that I had misunderstood my woman. She wanted nujum and not kujum. Nujum in tunisian lanuage means "stars" or so, but kujum means absolutely nothing, Please take my big Sorry for that.

The quetion now is: What to do best with the kujum wiki? Will it be okay to just request a further wiki, now with the name nujum? Using the kujum as test field and backup? Or would it be better to correct this failure?

RhinosF1

Hello all,

I took on the role of Sysadmin at Miraheze 2.5 months ago. I regretfully confirm that after just this short space of time I will be stepping down from my staff role at Miraheze on 14/12/2019. In late August, I experienced a short illness which faded soon after but at the very end of the month a more sinister turn was taken.

As September progressed, things seemed to be going well. Unfortunately, In the last few weeks, I have continued to decline which has left me in a position where I've been rendered unable to maintain what I was doing.

I will keep my Wiki Creator and Sysop hats on Meta in case I am around but health will take priority.

I'd like to wish everyone a great Christmas and New Year and thanks for your support!

If you have any questions, please contact me on IRC or Discord. You can also email staff[at]miraheze.org who may assist you if you want information as some staff have it or let me know so I can get in touch.

Thanks again,

Special:MobileMenu

Hello everyone,

Is there a way to edit the MobileMenu special page so that when I am on a smartphone, i can have more information than Home and Random Page when accessing the menu ?

When I go on https://zw.fontainebleau-avon.fr/wiki/Sp%C3%A9cial:MobileMenu while connected with an admin user, I have no way to do it.

I tried to have a look on Mediawiki's website but did not understand where to find the information

Thank you for your help

Minerva Neue's a pain for menu editing. As I understand it is not possible on Miraheze and you would need to find an admin. Try @ operations on the discord... ~ El Komodos Drago (talk to me) 10:48, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

How to configure 'read only' members in private wiki?

I’m not sure which user group to use for a read-only role in our private Wiki. I’d like to assign new users a read-only role until they send an email to an admin confirming they have read and understand our private Wiki’s guidelines on unacceptable content and page editing etiquette.

I’m not sure which user group to use for a read-only role. Roles I’ve tried:

  • With no group at all the user can’t read the etiquette and content guidelines pages (although they can edit our main page).
  • List Group Rights page shows the ‘Members’ group’s only right as “Read Pages” but when I add a user to the ‘Members’ group they can edit pages.

None of the other roles look like they’d keep a user from making edits.

Have I read the documentation incorrectly, missed something, or is what I want to do not possible? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chuck.Beckett (talkcontribs) 15:50, 6 December 2019‎

Hi Chuck.Beckett, and welcome to Miraheze! The reason members can still edit pages is because the 'edit' permission is still assigned to the '*' (all users) and 'user' (registered users) groups, so the permission is inherited alongside 'read' in the 'member' group. You can restrict this edit access by removing the 'edit' permission from both of the previously mentioned groups.
When you do this, be sure to assign 'edit' to 'sysop' or another group of your choosing because it will prevent you from editing as well. dross (tcg) 22:12, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chuck.Beckett (talkcontribs)

Error with cargo table

Recently I opened Cargo extension on rs.miraheze.org. However, after editing a template decaling Cargo, error happens. See Special:CargoTables and Template:关卡信息. And Special:CargoTables is currently empty. --SolidBlock (talk) 12:05, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

@SolidBlock: If it is an issue with the Cargo extension itself, you should make a task item at phabricator. --EKcontribs 17:57, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
OK. --SolidBlock (talk) 11:50, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
@Examknow: According to Yaron, I would need to get an admin to add "$wgShowExceptionDetails = true;" to the settings for the wiki to see the actual error message, if that's possible. See mw:Extension talk:Cargo#Error with Cargo table. --SolidBlock (talk) 02:45, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

add "frw" interwiki link in magehands wiki

Hi! Could you please add an interwiki entry to the local interwiki settings of https://magehands.miraheze.org ? The URL pattern is "https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/$1", and the prefix should be "frw". Around 95% of our external links are going to route there. If it has to go into a common interwiki table, feel free to go with "fr-fandom" or "fandom-fr" as a prefix (if "frw" is too terse), but if it can be local to magehands please use "frw".— Preceding unsigned comment added by Al2der (talkcontribs)

@Al2der: Being a private wiki, do you give us Member permission to view the wiki and do the interwikis configuration you ask for? this is necessary for me or my colleagues to help you. @CnocBride, TBCtableEX, Shaunak Chakraborty, and 黑底屍: Hispano76 (talk) 21:08, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
@Hispano76: I’ll happily grant permission, but I’m not sure how yet (I’m completely new to wiki administration, sorry). Do I create a separate account on my wiki with your username that you’ll attach to, or is there a Special Page that I’m not seeing where I can reference your meta account and add it to the Member group? I’ll keep looking through the docs, but I’ll take pointers too :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Al2der (talkcontribs)
@Hispano76, CnocBride, TBCtableEX, Shaunak Chakraborty, and 黑底屍: So I simply marked the wiki as not private, temporarily. Hope that suffices. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Al2der (talkcontribs)

How to adjust SwgAutoConfirmAge

I would like to adjust $SwgAutoConfirmAge on my wiki to be a day ($wgAutoConfirmAge = 86400;). That affects who gets into the Autoconfirmed Users group. When this is done, I can grant Autoconfirmed Users full rights but restrict the rights of "*" users. In other words, I can set up a policy that says, "if you want to make changes, your account has to be at least one day old". I figure most spammers and vandals don't have the patience to wait.

I can't seem to find a way to adjust that from the web interfaces though. Can you point me to a way to adjust that? Thanks in advance.

It should be possible to manage these settings through Special:ManageWiki/permissions/autoconfirmed, specifically in the Autopromotion section. -- Void Whispers 22:01, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

Miraheze page loading slow?

I'm quite new to Miraheze and I've noticed that all pages take quite a while to load. Usually takes a second or two, but sometimes up to 10 seconds even. This seems to happen in any Miraheze hosted wiki, but not in any other MediaWiki based wiki. So I'm wondering whether this is due to me living in Estonia and the servers being far away? Or are Miraheze's servers just underperforming for whatever reason? Olaroll (talk) 00:33, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
