Can I backup?

If I make a personal wiki can I have a backup if Miraheze ever breaksdown? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.79.153.102 (talkcontribs)

Of course! Special:DataDump can be used for that effect. Reception123 (talk) (C) 16:20, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
Yes, the data dumps also mentioned at Terms of Use#9. Hosting#9d. Termination. The usage of data dumps is to generate your content as xml, and your content must be comply with TOU, just in case your Wiki had accidentally breakdown. SA 13 Bro (talk) 02:56, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

How to import

How do I add other languages to my wiki?

Hey, I manage the wiki.mxlinuxusers.de in German language up to now. Now there is a request to expand it to English language too(like the wiki.archlinux.org). So I want to add https://wiki.mxlinuxusers.de/wiki/Main_Page to "in other languages" like they do. How this can be done? --Peter Littmann (talk) 16:21, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

@Peter Littmann: First you need to create the interwiki (I can do it but I need to know which prefix they want to use) and enable wgExtraInterlanguageLinkPrefixes in GitHub (I can enable it). Hispano76 (talk) 16:53, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
@Hispano76: I am not sure if I understand you correctly. I understand you wish to get the following data:

Could this work in this form or does I need to create a new wiki and eventually a new domain on which it runs? --Peter Littmann (talk) 02:31, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

@Hispano76: So when the user opens https://wiki.mxlinuxusers.de he should get Hauptseite and under in anderen Sprachen there should be a link English which should link to https://wiki.mxlinuxusers.de/wiki/Main_Page. Will this be practicable or would you suggest a better method?
Hello, i think you want to enable the "Translator" extension for your wiki like we have enabled on meta. Paladox (talk) 14:16, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
As I understand this seems to be meant for translation projects where the authors write and translate together. In our wiki a group of some germans will write and a independent group of some English speaking authors will write their articles where some are in both groups but the content may be grow independent. Some articles may exist in both languages some not. --Peter Littmann (talk) 15:06, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
@Peter Littmann: Then you will have to request a new specialized wiki for the English language apart from the German wiki. Then you could use interwikis as Wikipedia does. Hispano76 (talk) 20:54, 22 June 2019 (UTC)
@Hispano76: So I have ordereed a new domain(mxlinuxusers.org) where I added a subdomain wiki.mxlinuxusers.org and set the CNAME to your server. I requested a new wiki in the form and used Phabricator to request a Let's encript certificate. So from my side seems to be all fullfilled, right? Please check it. --Peter Littmann (talk) 22:39, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

Giving access to linking between wikis

Hello, I would like my wiki (https://hasanistan.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page) to have the ability to link to other wikis in Miraheze and also this wiki (https://micronations.wiki/wiki/Main_Page). Thanks. OIMGov (talk) 14:01, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

Some of them are accessible via interwiki links. Ask a staff for more details. Fungster (contribs - email - CA) 20:20, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

where is "Special:ManageWiki"

From miraheze I got the message posted on https://isac.miraheze.org/wiki/:

"Miraheze Staff has noticed that this wiki has no edits or logs made within the last 45 days. If you would like to prevent this wiki from being closed, please start showing signs of activity here. If there are no signs of this wiki being used within the next 15 days, this wiki may be closed per the Dormancy Policy. This wiki will then be eligible for adoption by another user. If not adopted and still inactive 135 days from now, this wiki will become eligible for deletion. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with Miraheze's Dormancy Policy. If there is activity on this wiki you can go to Special:ManageWiki and uncheck "inactive" yourself. If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to Stewards' noticeboard."

Following the above hint "go to Special:ManageWiki" I visit "https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:SpecialPages", but there searching for "ManageWiki" gives no result; "Manage a wiki" leads me to somewhere I feel lost.

So, how can I uncheck "inactive" ?

Best, Walther

I am reviving this topic about the board of Miraheze and how Miraheze should be incorporated

Miraheze technically needs a board and needs to be incorporated. On my page about this topic, Miraheze, th "Service", should be incorporated and Wikipedians will revive this draft on WP once more external sources are found. On that page, we will divide Miraheze regions into Miraheze Europe, America and Asia. Fungster (contribs - email - CA) 08:13, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

Miraheze doesnt need a board imo, and about that staff/contractor page, none of us are paid staff (AFAIK) we are all volunteer. I would prefer you to continue only if/after you get approval from staff or community (whichever is applicable). Thanks! Zppix (Meta | CVT Member | talk to me) 13:25, 22 June 2019 (UTC)
Since Miraheze is an organisation we need to divide Miraheze into three governance regions: Miraheze Asia (which includes The Pioneer, Fukahire, SA and me, and also Revi), Miraheze Europe (which includes Paladox, Southparkfan, Rob Kam, and also Reception123), and Miraheze America (which obviously includes John and Labster). Fungster (contribs - email - CA) 13:54, 22 June 2019 (UTC)
Is it really necessary? I would prefer to avoid so much bureaucracy and that the project focuses on the contents of wikis, avoid ambiguity in user permissions and make campaigns for donations among others. Having so much bureaucracy is going to make Miraheze look like Wikia/Fandom... that in the end it won't help the average contributor. Hispano76 (talk) 20:58, 22 June 2019 (UTC)
I think this isn't necessary, for the entire site it is written that Miraheze is maintained by volunteers, the staff and volunteers pages are public, as if to talk about government. Besides having the need to name the region from which a volunteer contributes could violate privacy, i don't think it is necessary to know where you are from or where we are. --Dark Dragoon (talk) 01:19, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
Think about that. If Miraheze did become an organisation we will have to set up MH Asia MH europe and MH north america Fungster (contribs - email - CA) 10:40, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
If the staff and sysadmins exist, and they did so much work to make Miraheze better, why are not paid at least by donations Fungster (contribs - email - CA) 10:42, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
I think that the users who contributed voluntarily here tried hard to show transparency and offer a good service. They just did an annual survey showing a lot of interest in the consumer based on what they built, so starting with personal donations would look bad.
And i don't think we just have to look at the work done by the system administrators, all the volunteers do something to make this place better. In my case i only do translations, it seems very little, but I try to do it because i know friends who think that this is just a place for english speaking users, but i don't need donations to make it more accessible to them. --Dark Dragoon (talk) 13:35, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── There is obviously not a consensus to do this, if you want to open an RfC feel free although i can promise it wont get consensus either. Zppix (Meta | CVT Member | talk to me) 14:11, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

Stewards and CVTs should have a yearly meeting. For stewards, it is in Southparkfan’s house, and while CVTs is in Reception123’s house. Is that okay? Fungster (contribs - email - CA) 12:39, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
I too concur that there is no need to organize users by world region. I don't conceal mine, others might, and nationality is generally not an issue except for varying skill at, and desire to use, English. (If we had to sort users, I would prefer doing it by demonstrated maturity, so the recent wave of feuding children should have to eat at a separate table!) Legal and financial organization of Miraheze is a topic to be handled by Stewards unless they should come to us for help or a mandate. Spıke (talk)16:44 24-Jun-2019
Can Miraheze have at least some meetings? Fungster (contribs - email - CA) 09:09, 25 June 2019 (UTC)

Twitter cards, bis

In Community noticeboard/Archive 6#Twitter cards, I inquire about a MediaWiki extension that adds meta tags to help Twitter display a graphic when I tweet out a reference to a page on my wiki. (Infrequent User:El Komodos Drago said it was as simple as installing an extension, and Reception123 offered to find out which one.)

I am told it is OpenGraphMeta, but I don't see any reference to it in Extensions. Moreover, I don't see a way to select extensions at Special:ManageWiki on TheMirror.miraheze.org, although I believe I used it in the past to add extensions.

(Reception123 reported studying this extension in Request features/Archive 3. And User:Michaeldakin in Community noticeboard/Archive 4 said he had enabled it but was dissatisfied with the results.)

Separately, Archive 6 of this page is not in the index at the top of the page. Spıke (talk)13:37 28-Jun-2019

Extensions are managed through Special:ManageWiki/extensions, and the extension you are looking for appears on that page. -- Void Whispers 00:14, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
It does indeed, and it now states that I have enabled it. I hope my confusion prompts an improvement in the documentation, such as (1) making "Extensions" visible from the Special:ManageWiki main page (as it is non-intuitive how to get there) and (2) documenting OpenGraphMeta at Extensions. Thanks for your help! Spıke (talk)05:13 29-Jun-2019

Importing page files

I am in the process of building my wiki. I have auto generated the pages I want to import. Using special page import file: I would like to import a few to make sure I have everything correct using the import files special page but I don’t know what to enter for the “interwiki prefix”. I have looked at mediawiki documentation but I am unable to decipher what I need. Any suggestions? Major uploading of all files: There are about 2000 files representing the hierarchy that are less than 3k each and the actual page text inside them is about 1k. Is the correct way to make a request through phabricator or is there some way to do this myself? Thanks, Eddie

An import of that size should be done via phab and sysadmins User:RhinosF1 - (Quirc) (chat (on meta)) · CA 16:37, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

String parser functions In templates

I want to do string parsing inside a template. I need to replace each space in a string with a plus(+) character. I need to use both the original and the edited string in the template. What string functions (replace specifically) are available in Miraheze by default? What extension do I need if not available by default? Thanks, Eddie

We have mw:Extension:ReplaceText which should be just right for you. You can enable it from Special:Managewiki/extensions of your wiki.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 17:17, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

No, that doesn’t seem to be what I need. I need to replace the spaces in a string passed to the template as a parameter with a plus character. It must be evaluated each time the template is used. I do not need to replace the values through the wiki.

I think one way for it is to have a custom javascript on MediaWiki:common.js of your wiki. The template should have a tag with a spacial id/class name, and all the letter + in the target id/class will be replaced by js automatically.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 17:58, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Sounds like way over kill. And I don’t speak Java; barely managing mediawiki. I need a simple parser function like #replace|instr|searchSrt|ReplaceString

In StringFunctions it says that #replace was merged with ParserFunctions, and that extension is already enabled by default. --Dark Dragoon (talk) 18:27, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
The merged functions seem to be disabled on Miraheze. One other way is to import mw:Module:String.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 18:34, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
The setting to enable it can be managed through Special:ManageWiki/settings as "Enable string function functionality". -- Void Whispers 19:50, 13 July 2019 (UTC) Sorry I’m being so slow. I am an extreme newbie. I found the Special:ManageWiki page but don’t see where to select the setting mentioned.
Also, how are y’all getting your signature attached and getting the text to indent?
And, Does mw:Module:String means importing the module from the main MetaWiki site? I’m not clear on how that is done either. I am looking through the documentation for answers to these but am able to interpret very little.
@Lifelonglearner: Here is the option in ManageWiki. For signature, see Help:Signatures and for indent see Help:Formatting. The module thing is unnecesary i think. --Dark Dragoon (talk) 21:48, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, after seeing Void's comment, I think enabling string parser functions from Special:ManageWiki/settings of your wiki, which can be accessed from "Manage this wiki's additional settings" on the sidebar is the best way. "Enable string function functionality" is on the "Edit" tab of that page. Check it, go to the "Submit" tab, enter a brief summary and submit it to make the change valid. For more details on managewiki as a whole, you can see ManageWiki. For signatures, type ~~~~ / --~~~~, and for indents, add colons on the head of the lines. One colon will add one indent.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 02:11, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

how to keep up to date in changes in Miraheze storage space

I remember a month or so ago we were told Miraheze had about 90 GB left in storage for ALL projects collectively, so our desire to see thousands of images mass-imported from old Wikia/Fandom projects might be delayed (something in the realm of 30GB and 70GB respectively).

I was wondering how to keep up to date on fluctuations in Miraheze capacity so we might know when an appropriate time is to revisit these requests.

I'm also wondering, re Phabricator, if there might be some way of a tiered approach to restoring an old database. Like for example, instead of restoring ALL the images at once, to say restore maybe 1% of them at a time?

This would allow us to revisit some of our older files, and with a small quantity, maybe go through them and even delete spam.

Do you know, out of consideration for minimizing the footprint a wiki makes on Miraheze, if there is a way to permanently delete a file once uploaded?

In my experience when Wikia/Fandom deleted a file, it wasn't truly deleted, a copy was still present on the database taking up space (because it could be restored by admins) so that wouldn't allow permanent deletion to free up space for Miraheze, which is something I'd like to do.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows of any tools for arranging files by information such as size, so we could for example "target" the higher-capacity "bloat" files and reduce them to a smaller resolution (perhaps a complete delete and re-upload?) to cut down on Miraheze's costs for storing it. Tycio (talk) 18:00, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

To check out disk spaces, access Icinga following the guide on Tech:Icinga, and search for disk spaces. When a wiki is deleted from our database (most likely per Dormancy Policy), I think images uploaded there will be completely deleted as well, which is probably the only case when we can delete images parmanently.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 14:55, 20 July 2019 (UTC)

How to stop fake users from registering on the wiki?

There is a constant trickle of fake users registering on sdiywiki. It's really rare that a real user signs up. The fake users are some script somewhere that posts some nonsense with a random external URL and the user never visit the wiki again. Somehow it's a different IP each time. Proxies are blocked and the abuse filter prevents the spam from being allowed. The wiki has got captcha/recaptch for account creation but this doesn't make a difference.

How to slow down or stop fake user accounts from being registered on the wiki? Rob Kam (talk) 18:07, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

Semantic MediaWiki

I know that this has been discussed multiple times before, but with the Referata wiki farm essentially gone (it's no longer hacked, but it's uptime is extremely inconsistent and there appear to be frequent DOS attacks targeting the site), would it be reasonable to consider Semantic MediaWiki for Miraheze? Referata was the largest wiki provider that I know of that supported SMW, and since it appears that Referata may be ready to go end-of-life, I think it would be nice for another stable wiki farm to support SMW. While I personally don't use SMW, I know people who do, and for some projects and goals, it is a very important feature. I'm not sure why we currently do not support it, and if there is anything on the technical side that needs to be done, I may be able to help (I'm an IT professional, after all). Amanda Catherine (talk) 16:28, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Apologies in advance since I'm a relatively new user to Miraheze, but I thought I would share my experiences with SMW. Going through the previous reasoning why SMW was rejected as an extension, the reasoning given was because it would heavily modify MediaWiki. I would like to add to this with my personal experiences with SMW and its performance issues it caused me as a contributor on other Wikis (mostly game-oriented Wikis).
I will say from the get-go that I am biased against SMW because of these experiences. When it worked, it worked. But when it didn't, it caused a lot of headache.
  • On an independently-owned Wiki I contributed to (no longer exists), during game update days, SMW would cause the site to go down. We would have to temporarily make static pages in place of the SMW pages in order to avoid page slowdowns and avoid SMW spiking resource usage. We made attempts to remedy the situation such as switching to Lua instead of Wiki Markup to render pages and upgrading the backend to keep up; however, SMW was still a huge resource hog and downtime was still happening. The site owner eventually stopped self-hosting that specific Wiki.
  • Gamepedia, a large Wiki host for games, has now deprecated the usage of SMW. I was not involved directly with this decision, but I do know that at the time (Fall 2017), SMW was causing a lot of downtime across all of Gamepedia (not just the Wikis that were using SMW). Gamepedia had to turn off SMW on a few high SMW-usage Wikis to get stability back.
    • For transparency, I was an administrator of one of those Wikis that had SMW turned off at the time. After working with Gamepedia staff for several hours in an attempt to remedy the SMW situation, eventually the conclusion was reached that SMW had to be shut off. A significantly large portion of our content broke, and it took several weeks to fix everything that was affected. I'm not familiar with how Referata handles SMW, and granted, we were using many complex and heavy SMW queries, but the fact that it was still able to bring all of Gamepedia down and the fact that it's now deprecated should definitely be a warning siren.
I would also like to point out that Miraheze supports the MediaWiki Cargo extension which was developed as an alternative to SMW (and SMW's ~20 different extensions) by one of the main developers of SMW (Yaron Koren). Both parties from the situations above (The independent Wiki site owner and Gamepedia) have now switched to recommending Cargo over SMW. I personally have been using it for ~2 years now and, while it's not perfect, have yet to experience any issue with it compared to the scale of the SMW issues I had to face.
If SMW really must be considered as a potential extension to be added again, I think the following questions should also be considered:
  • Is it worth supporting SMW compared to the performance issues it can potentially cause?
  • Is it worth the manpower that will be required to support and maintain it, knowing that Miraheze already support its alternative Cargo?
Apologies again if there are any mistakes or anything I may be ignorant of being a new user here, but, in my opinion, I do think adding SMW is something that should be done with caution and thought since I believe SMW's issues go beyond just technical compatibility. A question about Navboxes

Hello there. I have just begun work on a new wiki, and I’m getting used to some of the complexity within them, but I have a question. In terms of Navboxes, like this one which is missing a hide/show button; thus lacking the ability to collapse and uncollapse, so is there any way to make them collapsible? Extension Changes

Hello all,

We've recently noticed that 2 extensions no longer support the latest versions of our software anymore and have been causing issues on some wikis. To allow communities time to prepare before we remove these extensions and allow for feedback I'm posting this here. You can find more information in phab:T4584 and phab:T4583.

The two extensions are:

  • Poll which is in use on 100 wikis and can be replaced by the similar AJAX Poll or by PollNY
  • ArticleFeedbackV5 which is in use on 58 wikis and can not be replaced.

If you have any questions or feedback then please don't hesitate to inform us.

"Report an error" link for my wiki

Hello! I want reader could inform me if he will find some mistake or inaccuracy. Is it possible to add "Report an error" link on my wiki? Or the best way I`d like to get - just select wrong phrase and press Ctrl+Enter and error report ready. Despierto (talk) 13:22, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

@Despierto: I'm not sure what kind of link you would want or where but you could link a page where people can report. Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:23, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

I can't access to "Special:ManageWikiPermissions"

This will probably happen with other wikis. I can't access to Special:ManageWikiPermissions. That special page is where I can provide or remove permissions to each user group. In particular, I would like to have the freedom to remove or provide the possibility to participate to users not registered in the forum, among other things. Changes

Hello, I leave this comment to see if there is or could make some space on the main page to notify of important changes in the site. Recently, for example, the Dark Vector skin was removed, only notice in Discord and perhaps the one who is not there has no way to find out. Now some extensions have been changed and it has been reported here and maybe not everyone looks at it. For these reasons I think it will be good an "official" place to announce the most relevant changes, I don't think everyone knows how to read the changes of GitHub xD --Dark Dragoon (talk) 04:09, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

@Dark Dragoon: That is a good point. Perhaps next time, we should add important changes to the site under the "News" section on the Main Page. Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:59, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
I think here or discord will be the best place currently to look. There are plans for a mailing list for announcements and news which would include changes like this. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat) · CA · contribs · Rights -      offline) 06:26, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

About LocalSettings.php file

Hi, and thanks for your help. I'm a newbie, but trying to figure things out for myself. However, it seems as though some configuration work needs to happen in the LocalSettings.php file. But because I have created my Wiki using Mirahese, I have the sense that I cannot access that file, or make any of the changes that the instructions for so many functions mention. Is that correct, that I cannot access the LocalSettings.php file? Thank you. (Note: I referenced this page: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:LocalSettings.php) Paul Evans (talk) 04:11, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

@Paul Evans: We have our own extension called ManageWiki that allows you to change settings without having to edit the LocalSettings.php file, so please go to Special:ManageWiki (/settings, /extensions, /permissions, etc.) in order to make changes to the settings. If there are settings that you don't see there please see Request features. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:01, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
@Reception123: Thank you for responding. As I mentioned, I have been trying to figure things out for myself, so I had already discovered and started exploring the Special:ManageWiki features. I think maybe what I haven't got a good feel for yet (one of many things) is the understanding for when I should be able to find an answer and do things for myself, and when I necessarily have to ask you for help. I will try not to be too annoying, as I fumble my way along. Thanks again. Paul Evans (talk) 20:38, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

Users with global user rights are trusted, but they also require maturity. So I would ask this question. Is there an official age requirement on CVT members/interwiki admins/stewards/staff? -- znotch190711 (temporary signature) 12:21, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

Report https://moderaterightpedia.miraheze.org

The Miraheze wiki, https://moderaterightpedia.miraheze.org, was initially on the Wiki Fandom as Moderate-Right Pedia. I am an admin for Liberapedia on the fandom and here to report that Moderate-Right Pedia, under the group name "A-Z," has continuously stalked us, vandalized our pages, and threatened to "take down our wiki (Liberapedia)" for the past year. They also have a YouTube channel and in one of the videos admitted to hacking our website (last Friday). They are only using Miraheze to escape the consequences of their actions and will probably continue hacking our website even when fully migrated. Also see this. Signed Rushwrj13, 13 August 2019

Page(s) found in violation of our policies are removed, and further action will be taken if necessary. Reception123 (talk) (C) 18:05, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Need assistance editting Common.css/Vector.css

Hello, I need assistance making some edits to my wiki's visual appearance, but haven't been able to change some aspects of the wiki due to poor knowledge of which assists are altered. I've listed what I'm trying to change in the list below.

  1. I wanted to make the tabs at the top fade similar to the system on other wikis, where the primary color of the article page (in this case #3D3D3D) is used as a solid color at the bottom of the tab, before turning transparent at the top. Whenever I made any edits to the Common.css, the tabs either turned completely solid, or disappeared. Likewise, there would still be a line from the top of the page running through the tab rather than disappearing for the tab you selected.
  2. I don't know what to change in the Common.css to alter the color of the navigation menu to the left to #EFEFFF. I've done it before but not anymore since it's been a while.
  3. I would like to make the color of all the hyperlinks #B0C4DE (or whatever color I used for the existing ones on the article). However, I don't know which part of the .css to edit to change the content bar's own link for the dropdown box.
  4. Another issue I'm facing is that I don't know how to change the color of the section numbers in the content bar itself. I've done it before on the Wikia site, but when Monobook was removed, I found that several of the assets I edited in the Monobook.css were incapable with Miraheze. Since then I have been unable to make any of the changes I need to the bar.

I'm not sure what happened here, but for whatever reason the tab colors here are mismatched. I'm trying to make the colors similar to the tabs named "Flag", but it either reverts the primary #303030 rather than the desired #3D3D3D.

I've been trying forever to convert the color of the tabs here to #3D3D3D, but it either reverts to the default Wikipedia color shown in the image, or it removes the boxes entirely and changes the appearance of the box.

Here is the link to the wiki: Wiki

I appreciate any help I can get to finally get this stuff out of the way. Thank you! Vivaporius (talk) 16:46, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

@Vivaporius: I've got some work into trying what you've asked for at xyon:User:Void/common.css. You can try out the changes I've made by copying the contents of that page to xyon:Special:MyPage/common.css before adding it to MediaWiki:Common.css or MediaWiki:Vector.css (whichever you're using). Let me know if anything needs changing. -- Void Whispers 21:18, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Fandom n Hatedom Wars

I'm just wondering about some users make refuge from Wikia/Fandom, i've seen discussions that Wikia/Fandom is banning users that causes drama like Fandom wars and their toxicity. --Zirukurt01 (talk) 10:32, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

@Zirukurt01: Sorry, but what is it really about? Gustave London (talk) 11:24, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
It's about a wiki that has been violating the Terms of Service from Wiki/Fandom, and the local wiki admins moved here to settle their own. I think they violated the ToS number 9.1 from the mentioned website (Wikia/Fandom), 9. Prohibited Conduct "create, upload, transmit, distribute, or store any content that is inaccurate, unlawful, infringing, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, harassing, threatening, abusive, inflammatory, or otherwise objectionable;". Does the Wikia/Fandom ToS have the similar Prohibited Conduct to Miraheze's ToS? --Zirukurt01 (talk) 11:47, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
This will depend on the Miraheze global rule or local rules. Did you read them? Gustave London (talk) 12:01, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
Only ToS, i'll decide to report complaint after i read the Content policy. --Zirukurt01 (talk) 22:05, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
If you have any specific complains about a wiki violating our Content Policy and/or Terms of Use please let us know. Obviously, there are differences between our ToU and Wikia' s. Reception123 (talk) (C) 12:05, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

I just imported brand new templates from Wikipedia, but they link to Wikipedia. I can’t explain in the title alone though..

So I wanted a few cosmetic changes to my wiki. I decided to import some pp templates, which are the templates that you see on some Wikipedia pages with a lock icon, with gray background, on the top-right of a page. I imported many templates. But the lock linked to Wikipedia’s protection policy. How should I make it link to mine? Plus, I don’t even know how to code in Lua and all the complicated code is freaking me out.

•• Fair0002 • Bureaucrat and Administrator of Crazybloxian Empire Wiki 21:56, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

To simplify where you need to look for any future changes, most of the links you need to change for the pp templates seem to be in the config page at Module:Protection banner/config, similar to how you did this edit. Specifically for the lock's link, it linked to Wikipedia:Protection Policy#semi, and searching for that in the /config page gets you to an imageLinks section on the page. I went ahead and made the change and verified it works on the lock you have on this page. Hope this helps! -- Elaeagnifolia (talk) 04:15, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

Very difficult question

I don't know how to use a template using <choose> or <option> on another page and create a single number without affecting <choose> or <option> at that point. See [3] ,[4] for more details.

That is
  1. Template using <choose> and <option>([1])
  2. Page where you want to use a template (casino game)([2])
  3. I want to get a number that does not change by updating there.

We are aware of an issue with the InstantCommons function. This is due to an ongoing outage of some wikimedia servers that is affecting our ability to retrieve images from commons. There is nothing we can do at this time apart from wish everyone working on restoring service good luck!

It's happening!

The "Error creating thumbnail: File missing" error has come to our wikis and screwing over the files! I can't even upload a file at all because I get this error:

Could not open lock file for "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/f/fd/Screenshot_2019-09-03_at_11.37.33.png". Make sure your upload directory is configured correctly and your web server has permission to write to that directory. See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Manual:$wgUploadDirectory for more information.

Someone fix it!!!

We're aware of our spotty uptime for today. One of our servers is not working properly and has brought everything down. As a temporary fix, we've disabled the related servers in order to bring the wikis back up. Unfortunately, the services we disabled are our file servers. A direct result of this is that images will be temporarily unavailable, and it will be impossible to upload for the duration of this issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.
