how can I insert HTML codes into pages

hi, i thinking how I can insert a HTML-code to my own pages (such as a checkbox, textfield, radio button, dropdown-menu, or so), how do I using HTML? Psl631 (Let's Chat!) 15:59, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

Simple. Do it by:

  1. Find the page you wanna edit
  2. Click the pencil if you are on mobile or the “edit source” if you are on pc
  3. Add the HTML code
  4. Preview to ensure no mishaps in your HTML
  5. Save changes
  6. See the HTML make the page stand out in Style.

Subordinated Accounts

I have seen User_accounts_policy and just want to check that what I am doing is in alignment with it. irrespective the situation likely will be temporary.

Background: I am about to create, user Alanoccv_test and Alanaoccv_guest.

Alanoccv_test : will be for my personal use as a 'user' who is not me, and not the creator of my wiki. (a pleb user of my wiki)
Alanoccv_guest : will also be my responsibility, but would be used for inviting real-world guests.
AKA: I can pre-create an account invite it anywhere that I want. Then hand out temporary browse credentials to my wiki.

The above looks all ok policy-wise to me. Is it?
It should be totally unnecessary, but are there any rights I can get taken off subordinate: users Alanoccv_test and Alanaoccv_guest.
For instance, could they be 1/ unable to edit in meta: 2/ still able to edit in my wiki 3/ still able to edit their user: pages & user_talk: pages.
That way if the unthinkable happens it happens to me?
Also is that useful genral naming_pattern, (<user_name>_role) that other Miraheze users might want to use?
Its public way of being clear about intent. Color makes it noticeable it is not quite the real person.
or am I just weird? (Ok. So I definitely am, but is that all I am?)

I'm good with answers here or extended discussions/explanations on my talk page. topic New Questions that I will ask somewhere Alanoccv(talk) 03:13, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

I am still open for discussion but I dont think codifying any of this, in any sense, has net benefit to the community. The situation is too specifc and I have thought of ways it can go wrong... and IMO stating what they are just makes it easier for my plans to go wrong. That I asked then revoked the question achieves my primary intent of tansparency with the wiki community. In the future The community group I belong to will/likley have a new category of accounts. Not strictly shared, nor multiple accounts, but an account owned by a group, but at anyone time operated by the appropriate official officer of the club/association.

I have been considering this issue. I believe the best resolution is to leave it as it is. No one except me can know who or how reponsible the people who share Alan_guest might be. So that i am repsonsible for it is the obvious state. Just as the policy page describes. That anyone else who wants or finds purpose to do such thing, has the need to think about it deeply enough to get it right. Creating a pattern or recipe for that is considred harmful by me.

Question answer status is  Done Alanoccv(talk) 15:49, 22 September 2018 (UTC) (yes I closed my own question. I hope thats ok.)

I used to have this feature on my old wiki - every time the page was reloaded, the logo would change. On Wikia it was done through JS (the exact code can be seen on another wiki here) and I figured I would just have to change the " .wds-community-header__wordmark img" part, but no matter what I change it to (#p-logo, .mw-wiki-logo, etc) I can't get it to work. Any help would be appreciated, unless it just can't be done here MZD (talk) 11:10, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

User Rights on Private Wiki

(In this edit this question has been separated out from a multipart question I intend to flag as status Done of the rest of the question as done. I am doing that because upon further reflection I believe I have sorted out subordinated accounts issues for myself

This FAQ#Private wikis says the following text:

How private is a private wiki? A private wiki can only be viewed and edited by its members. You can go to your wiki's Special:UserRights and enter the name of any registered Miraheze user to put that user in the member group on your wiki.

However: Umm no I cant on my personal private wiki (see my talk page for link). Is that how it is meant to be?

is there a reason I cant make "Alanoccv guest" a member of my wiki((wikiname == username = link on talk page))? but instead could only make them a "confirmed user"

to be honest, Im not sure why Id want one over the other, but I cant do what the FAQ said I could/should, so its a question? Alanoccv(talk) 16:07, 19 September 2018 (UTC) (separeted into its own question) Alanoccv(talk) 15:36, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

Go to Special:ManageWikiPermissions/sysop on your wiki and check off the two boxes that have the member group. They should be under Add and Remove groups. There is a strange bug where the ability to add the member group isn't being properly assigned to sysops right now, but this should fix it. -- Void Whispers 15:56, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

How many Wiki? Can I use subdomains for different Wikis?

Good day! I am the founder of Malaysia Wiki. I am now writing using English. However, Malaysia is a multicultural and multilingual country, where we are using at least four major languages. Therefore I am trying to put these question for future use.

1) How many Wikis can I request? Assuming one language one Wiki. 2) Can I use my current domain bought from Namecheap, alter the CNAME, then point them towards different Wiki? 3) Which collaboration tool like Phabricator that can you suggest? I have no experience, and I'm trying to minimise costs.

There is no technical limit on the amount of wikis, so you could in theory request an unlimited amount of wikis. I have miminal knowledge related to domain names and networking. An alternative to Phabricator would be Trello. CnocBride | Talk | Contribs 19:48, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Databaseadmin I've seen the conversation you've had with Reception123, I'm afraid if you're not the sysop of the wiki, I can't enable the extension unless the local sysop approves it or the community itself (seeing that there are other editors besides you). If you get to create a new wiki, you will be able to enable it with the steps of my next answer.
Hi Ucronistaw! I created a new wiki and a new account and i could enable the extension:cite :) Thank you very much! It's perfect! Databaseadmin (talk) 19:18, 5 October 2018 (UTC)

User rights on Miraheze's Commonswiki

I'm in the process of adding some pictures, nothings amazing, just a selection of photos from previous holidays/vacations to test the viability of the commons project. Obviously, the very nature of project allows for uploading images created by myself (of which I have included a licence for such a purpose). However, more licences are needed. I don't mind adding these licences but they will need adding to MediaWiki:Licenses, of which I do not have access to edit. This is helpful in adding licences to image files using the drop-down option on the upload page. Is it possible to give me elevated user rights for such purposes as I seem to be the only person doing anything for this project at the moment anyway? Borderman (Talk) 14:35, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

Also, can we have HotCat gadget installed as this helps no end with all the categories that I'll be using and the Multimedia Viewer installed please. Borderman (Talk) 14:49, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

Have Random image instead of Random page link in sidebar

Just throwing the question out there in the hope there is an answer. Is there a way of having Random image instead of Random page in the sidebar? As I have started adding some photos to our Miraheze Commons website, it would be nice to have a random image link in the sidebar instead of the usual random page. The reason being commons is a repository for images and other media files and in this very early stage it is doubtful there are going to be any pages in the main namespace for some time, so the random page function is kind of pointless. Borderman (Talk) 21:21, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

@Borderman: You can make Special:Random apply only to files by using Special:Random/File. -- Void Whispers 02:43, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
@Void: Thanks. "File" is what I meant. As I am the only contributor, at least for the time being anywsy, I am only uploading images (no video or sound files). Borderman (Talk) 06:22, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Request for "infogalactic" interwiki link

Hello, I would like infogalactic ($1) added to Special:Interwiki. I initially submitted a request to the Miraheze Phabricator, but was told to publish the request here instead. Infogalactic is an alternative to Wikipedia that some people, including me, use, and I would like to Miraheze to offer people a means to easily link to it. --Idris (talk) 15:39, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

  • The English Wikipedia currently possesses 48 links (37 + 17 - 6 overlapping links) to Infogalactic.
  • Many Wikia pages (around 45 results) link to Infogalactc.
  • A number of websites (around 10,200 results) link to Infogalactic pages.
  • A number of Blogspot bloggers (around 741 results, even when excluding Vox Day's blogs) link to Infogalactic.
  • A number of Wordpress bloggers (around 514 results) link to Infogalactic.
  • A number of Twitter users (around 296 results) link to Infogalactic.
These numbers show value allowing easy linking. --Idris (talk) 16:05, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

Code of Conduct/Commission/Election/2018

Hello everyone, the time for 2017-2018 CoCC is almost over, and we now need to elect new 5 members. We decided to put all of 5 seats to community selection. But rules in 2017 and this year are bit different since the situation is different.

We need clarification for two things:

  1. Timeframe of the election
  2. Who is eligible to vote?

Please comment your opinions on respective subsections. — revi 12:19, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Last year, we had around 8-9 days for the nomination, 5 days for voting. # I'd propose we start accepting nominee ASAP (tomorrow? the day after tomorrow? Preferably before November starts), and then give 10 days for nominations and Q&A, then 5 days for voting. — revi 12:19, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
I think the organisation of last year's election was good, and propose to keep it. I am not opposed to starting the election procedure tomorrow. Reception123 (talk) (C) 16:20, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Last year, we determined the election by the closing time of RFC, but that was 2017 and is not reasonable for our community member who joined during 2018 and wish to have a voice. I propose that we cut off the eligibility date by the day when we start accepting nominees. — revi 12:19, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Code of Conduct/Commission/Election/2018/Vote looks like we're going to end as a tie for 4 candidates when we have 3 seats left (after Void with 7 S, me with 6 S). Following last year's procedure, we are supposed to close after 7 days of voting, so we have less than 24 hours from now on. Should we do a runoff? I was thinking... if we decide to do a quick runoff, we should not allow people from casting more than 1 or 2 votes, to force them to think serious.

revi 09:12, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

I was also thinking about this issue, I support a runoff, and yes, I think it should be limited to 1 or 2 votes maximum, though I'm not sure if it should be 1 vote or if we could allow 2 votes. Reception123 (talk) (C) 10:33, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
I agree with the above. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 12:48, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
I agree in a runoff in case there is a tie between the four remaining candidates. —AlvaroMolina ( - ) 14:28, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
I would also propose, for future elections, that voters be prevented from voting for every candidate. Three ways come to mind:
  1. Voters can support all but one of the candidates they are able to vote for.
  2. Voters can only support half (rounded up if need be) of all candidates.
  3. Voters can only support one candidate.
I'm leaning to either one or two. Three doesn't seem entirely fair, and could lead to ties with low voter turnouts. Whichever one we pick should also be applied to the number of opposes that a voter is allowed to place. These restrictions are put forward for the simple reason that voting the same way towards everyone doesn't actually help the community decide. -- Void Whispers 18:56, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
I agree with options 2 or 3 (but particularly 3), since the current modality makes it very easy to generate ties because the hypothetical situation is that all candidates vote for their other colleagues and in the end The expected consensus is not achieved. I would also agree that it can be more widely disseminated through Miraheze (not only with the CentralNotice or the Community Noticeboard, but through more means (such as the "Sites Updates" bulletin, or IRC)), thereby promoting the promotion of that more users of the global community of Miraheze participate, since until now the participation has not been as high as expected. Regards. —AlvaroMolina ( - ) 19:10, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
I was thinking something like "you have 1 "first choice" and 1 "second choice" regardless of number of candidates, and when counting ballot, give 1 point for first choice and give 0.5 points for second choice. Candidate with highest number is then elected. Maybe not for main election, but for runoff this sounds not that bad. — revi 10:27, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Hey. :)

I'm trying to improve Miraheze's documentation and would be great to "ear" your thoughts on how can I accomplish that the best way possible. Right now I'm working on ManageWiki and would like some feedback.

What I'm sure:

  • Is better to provide a simple explanation of each Miraheze/Mediawiki feature instead of linking to MediaWiki's docs
  • Provide KIS guides (TL;DR section) for the users who just want quick and simple steps on how to do something
  • Our target audience: unfamiliar (noobs) with MediaWiki

What I'm not so sure:

  • GIF's/Videos exemplifying how to do things
  • How to keep track of what's need to be done
  • How to engage other people to improve the documentation

Puffy (talk) 22:25, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

@Puffy: Hi. It's great that you want to help us with documentation, an area which I believe is very important but also outdated and not very well maintained. For your first point, I think when there is documentation we should be linking to that, as people update that, and it's usually pretty informative. A TL;DR section could be interesting, if it works. I'm not sure about videos, but if there's something very confusing, it could be an interesting idea. Keeping track, yes, that is an issue. We could just have a page for that I guess. As for engagement, we need to find people interesting in that, but also with knowledge about Miraheze/MediaWiki. Reception123 (talk) (C) 20:29, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Does Miraheze block embedding Facebook?

I tried to use the widget Facebook Page Plugin which did not work. I assumed an issue with the widget. So I went to facebook and pulled the embed code directly from there. I added the embed code into the widget. It doesn't display facebook. I tried on Firefox / Edge / Chrome. All with no success. Then I got to wondering whether Miraheze blocks facebook plugins as fb carries advertising? Twitter embedding scripts work - the distinction being that they don't carry advertising. If it is the case it is blocked from being embedded, I'll stop messing with code and wondering why it isn't working.

Last I checked, we didn't have Facebook on our content security policy (CSP). The CSP basically prevents any remote content from being fetched and used. I'm not actually sure if we adjusted it yet. -- Void Whispers 15:24, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
I tried it using the code that comes from facebook itself. This uses Iframe. Interesting on Chrome I do get an error message "Requests to the server have been blocked by an extension." It isn't one of my browser extensions blocking it as far as I'm aware. Michaeldakin (talk) 21:28, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Merging wikis

Good morning, afternoon, or evening. Is it possible to merge two wikis together at Miraheze? If you, thanks. That is because I would like to request that one of the two wikis I created, the Martha Speaks Wiki, be merged into the other wiki I created, The Science Archives. I am requesting this move because having two wikis to manage is a lot of work that I personally can't handle.

I would like to request that:

  • the domain and all of its subdomains redirecting to Please do this, if it is possible.
  • the articles themselves will be exported and imported to TSA via XML.

Thank you very much! Joey717 (talk) 01:06, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

@Joey717: Yes, that is possible. If you would like us to make an XML dump and import your wiki please request on Phabricator. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:21, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

@Joey717: Would you like the redirect to start as of now? Reception123 (talk) (C) 08:06, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
@Reception123: Maybe in 10 days. Joey717 (talk) 18:42, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
@Joey717: Okay, please let me know when you need it and I will take care of it. Also, we can always do the XML dump transfer for you as well, there is really no problem for us. Reception123 (talk) (C) 18:51, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
@Reception123: The pages have already been imported. There are signs on both wikis's front pages warning of the merge. The only thing remaining is the redirect. The redirect will occur on November 28, 2018, if it goes as planned. Joey717 (talk) 04:17, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

These two links: and are already on the list, when I checked just there. Must have missed the others! CnocBride | Talk | Contribs 21:27, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
That's because they're in the "Local interwiki prefixes" table of Special:Interwiki instead of "Interlanguage prefixes" table, and as a matter of fact you can see how our main page shows two links at the bottom of the page instead of in the sidebar.--Wedhro (talk) 23:02, 22 November 2018 (UTC)

Activity feed

On my old wiki I could use the tag <activityfeed size=4 /> to display a list of recent changes on the mainscreen. Is this extension not available or enabled on Miraheze?

It's ActivityFeedTag, a custom extension used by Wikia and not available in MediaWiki repositories AFAIK. --Wedhro (talk) 17:56, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
A similar extension could be developed, although, it would be necessary to see where the feed would be positioned, which can bring conflicts with the skins GOTILON - Talk - Contributions 23:30, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

My CVT request

Hi. My request for CVT at Requests for global rights seems to have not been noticed by the community by the looks of it. I have had my request open since 21 October and today is 24 November so it is over a month since I requested it but I still see no votes. Only two comments were left there, one was from 5 November saying that the community might not have noticed it and another is from 6 November suggesting me to go to the community board if there are no answers so I decided to come here today after a very long period of over one month of waiting. Fix interwiki tables on

Interwiki links don't work, I get a "not found" error. Example: - Same with other languages.
Probably that's because the URL misses the "/wiki/" part, in fact if I change the above URL as it works. NOTE: Stupidedia (interwiki bar) uses "/stupi/" instead of "/wiki/", and I hope it's the only exception.
Whether this is the correct solution or not, I ask you to fix the interwiki table so that links work, for all languages.
Also, there's a missing interwiki to add: is, for
Thanks.--Wedhro (talk) 20:15, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

I've added the new link, as well as updated just about every link on the table. I didn't check to see if each works, so if anything is broken, let me know. -- Void Whispers 21:45, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
I checked a few links and they work, thanks a lot.--Wedhro (talk) 22:02, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Add a few interwiki prefixes to Nonciclopedia

The following prefixes should be added to the interwiki table of

Please don't forget to check them, last time the links missed the /wiki/ part and wouldn't work. Thanks.--Wedhro (talk) 23:26, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Looks like only hu was missing from the table. It's been added. -- Void Whispers 01:59, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
@Void: Well, if you check you'll see the other three are missing from the table. In fact, on the bottom of our main page, just above the category box, you can see how dlm, tlh and zombie show up as plain links instead of appearing on the language list in the sidebar.--Wedhro (talk) 10:30, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
They are located in the list of Local Interwiki Links, but these are not counted as Interlanguage links. Interwiki links turn up on the page as if they were local links, while the Interlanguage links turn up on the sidebar. I guess this needs to be configured then. -- Void Whispers 15:35, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
Oh, now I see. So they just need to be moved to the interlanguage table. --Wedhro (talk) 16:18, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
That's more of a technical request. Should be good soon. -- Void Whispers 18:23, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

Style classes in Common.css don't work

I'm replicating warning templates used on the italian Wikipedia, and to make sure they work the same I copypasted their Common.css stylesheet here: When using a class from there on a table or div block, though, I can't see any difference. For example, see the following class:

table.avviso {
margin: 5px 10%; /* Non si sovrappone ad altri elementi */
  border-collapse: collapse;
  background: #fbfbfb;
  border: 1px solid #aaa;

Then in my sandbox I write the following:

<table class="avviso">
<td>cell 1</td>
<td>cell 2</td>
<td>cell 3</td>
<td>cell 4</td>

<div class="avviso">

I'd expect to get the boxes centered, gray borders etc., but nothing changes. Any idea why?--Wedhro (talk) 10:43, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

I've got nothing for this issue. If I force load the css using js, it works. There's no reason that it shouldn't work normally, unless something is causing the Common.css page to never load. -- Void Whispers 21:39, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
There's anything I might do to find out why it doesn't load? And/or should I open a task on Phabricator? --Wedhro (talk) 21:45, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
Ah, it seems that the page somehow had a broken content model. I fixed it, and now everything seems to be working. -- Void Whispers 22:12, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
It works, thanks. Now I remember noticing a few days ago how the content model wasn't correct and I tried changing it (see the history) but the change didn't have effect. Any idea why?--Wedhro (talk) 22:21, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
That's unclear. I think the only fix was to change it to a different content model and then back again. -- Void Whispers 22:42, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

Users can't register because their accounts were already created during wiki import

After importing our wiki from Wikia to, in Phabricator task T3756#72940, @Paladox: wrote:

“[...] i went ahead and created all the users accounts to prevent the problem in the future. (if any of your users turn up and find they cannot create there account) please ask them to create a phab task (and also comment on it that you confirm it is the user please))”

If I understand correctly, old users should create an account on Phabricator, then learn how to open a task, then I should comment there and finally... I don't know, really.
Isn't there a simpler way to let users get their accounts back? Maybe they could register a temporary account on our wiki and then the staff could merge it with the old one? Is there anything I can do as a admin/sysop? I'm asking because I don't expect them to register on Phabricator just to create a single task, probably we will lose users in the process.
At least, I'd like to know how what Paladox said would work exactly, at least I could tell the users.--Wedhro (talk) 17:35, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi, yes, though old users can email since phabricator requires a account on meta. Paladox (talk) 20:01, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
Would you please elaborate: which steps should be followed by users wanting their account back, exactly? Maybe I could email the staff in order to guarantee it's actually them, but what about passwords, email addresses and other things that are supposed to be private?--Wedhro (talk) 20:49, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

@Paladox: Hi, we're still waiting for an answer: how do users get back their old accounts? Also, IIRC it was once possible to merge users but I don't see Extension:UserMerge in the extension list and there's no special page dedicated to that option; was it removed? It would solve our problems because users could just create a new temporary account and then I could merge it with the old one.--Wedhro (talk) 10:55, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi, as I said they can email or they can create a new account and we can globally rename the account. We doint have UserMerge installed because that’s for local accounts, not global accounts. you can request a global rename at Paladox (talk) 13:00, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
I know but it's not clear how it works with emails: if someone emails you they want an account back, how do they prove it's actually them? I don't want to give this opportunity to malicious users (we get lot of vandalisms).--Wedhro (talk) 14:56, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

How to make a wiki only editable for approved users?

very new to Miraheze and already seen so much stuff, but still somewhat unsure about things ...

To be clear: 1. I'd like it possible for anybody to see the wiki contents 2. but editing should bve restricted to approved by some admin person

Would you please point me to the correct info for this?

ArievW (talk) 16:58, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

@ArievW: You can use Special:ManageWikiPermissions on your wiki, create a group called "editor" and then assign the edit permission to it. upload content of existing wiki

We have a wiki with about 60 pages and want to upload the content. Since we have many links from somewhere else to this wiki, we want the content in Miraheze as close as possible to the present wiki.

On Miraheze's pages we could not find an information, whether upload of whole wikis is supported by Miraheze. So we ask here (and hope that we only have to send a file of 380 kB starting with the line "<mediawiki xsi:schemaLocation="" version="0.3" xml:lang="en">" to the Stewards' noticeboard. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wneuper (talkcontribs)

Journal Citation Templates from Wikipedia

I tried importing and using the Template:Cite Journal templates from Wikipedia to allow inline citing of journal articles, but I cannot get it to work.

I have imported other citation templates from Wikipedia and they work without any problems. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Any ideas on how to fix it?

I'm familiar with the issues, and can provide a fix. Can you link me to a page with the issue? -- Void Whispers 20:44, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Sure, the template documentation page ( does not render the citations due to the error. However, any page where the citation journal template is used also produces the error.

Intp (talk) 07:14, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, -- Void Whispers. The problem seems to be fixed. Seems that there's a bug in the citation template. It wasn't checking if the wikibase was installed before calling it, which was producing the error. -- Void Whispers added a conditional statement to first check that wikibase was installed before calling it. On small wikis, Wikibase is probably not necessary.

I'll get to the point: I was doing a CSS update of my wiki, but it seems that I've failed somewhere in the code and now I have my web totally blank (Error 500). How much storage space does Miraheze have?

Well, My wiki[1], Crazybloxian Empire, could get large pretty soon. How much storage space does the wiki-hosting service have?

As I understand it, Miraheze uses rented server space rather than physical servers. As a result, there is no hard and fast limit but the more Miraheze has to store the more it has to pay.

Any tips on search engine optimization?

Is there anything we can do to raise our site in Google results? Hi, User:Reception123, I posted more on I'm not sure if it notified you. Psephomancy (talk) 17:42, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
Google will display the older site higher up for some time, and none of what you are doing is likely to have any effect. The best way to change that would be to simply shut down the old site, set the server to HTTP redirect 301 (permanent redirect) to the new domain, and fill out Google's change of address form. The 301 redirects must stay in place for around 2-3 weeks while Google updates, and then the new domain will appear in Google results as the previous domain did. You can then do whatever you like with the old domain, it won't appear on Google search anymore. Dysklyver (talk) 01:24, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Template Navbox show/hide won't appear

I know this has been discussed before, but I cannot see to make Template:Navbox work on my wiki. Wiki's logo (File:Wiki.png) won't update

I always have a hard time adding a new version of the nonciclopedia's logo; even if the upload is successful and the new version appears in the history, the file stays on the previous version for days or forever. Purging the page won't help. Attempting to reupload the file fails, I'm told that version already exist, and checking the options to ignore system errors and such fails too.
If you check the file's history you'll see there's a few differences between the 21 dic 2018 and 2 gen 2019 versions (the title doesn't overlap with the logo and the wiki-sphere is slightly different) and you can see those differences in the history thumbnails, but if you click on the last version you're taken to the previous version. Also, in Special:ManageWikiSettings I can't link to the newest version for the same reason: the link to the new version is, exactly the same as the link I previously set, and it leads to the old version. There's maybe an issue with caching? --Wedhro (talk) 03:49, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi, is this still an issue? It could just be your local browser cache not updating as well. -- Void Whispers 22:04, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
@Void: After 3-4 days the issue if finally gone. Today I uploaded a new version of a different files and, again, it was stuck on the previous version, this time only for a dozen hours. This never happens on Fandom using the same browser, so it's probably on Miraheze's servers.--Wedhro (talk) 22:35, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Looking to hire someone to customize Miraheze main page

Would anyone here be interested in some *paid* work to customize the main page of my Miraheze wiki? I’m hoping for a three column layout with three icons which are links.

Here is a diagram showing what I want (assuming it's possible): [1]. Link to site: [2]

You can contact me at

Here are examples of two Miraheze wikis with two column layouts. I couldn’t find one with three columns.

Hello. I will very happily do it (it is possible) but first I would like to ask how much you'd be willing to pay and how you would be willing to pay it. You can have a look at mh:sofw:Swords_of_Wrath_Wiki which I styled using CSS.
El Komodos Drago (talk) 16:51, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
P.S. How would you like me to submit it? I could place it directly on to the main page.
The job has been done and well done to whoever did it, they did a much better job than I would've.

Global Interwiki feature

Hi folks, you can now link to any wiki on Miraheze by using a link in the format of [[mh:wiki:Page]]. This will generate a link to For example: [[mh:test:Test]] will display as Test, and [[mh:login:User:Void]] will show User:Void. There are a couple of caveats to this however, as these links only work on a page. You cannot use the prefix to search for a page on another wiki (which is possible with standard interwiki prefixes). These links will override any existing interwiki link that uses mh as its prefix. If this is a problem for you, please let us know so we can adjust it for you. If you have any questions or encounter any issues, please leave them below! -- Void Whispers 22:00, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Request for deleting a translation

Please delete Donate/zh-cn since Donate/zh already exists and MediaWiki is able to transform it to different Chinese variants (zh-cn, zh-tw, zh-hk, zh-sg, etc.)

A further proposal is to disable translations to variants of Chinese and direct users to contribute their translation in "zh". --Tiger (talk) 07:35, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Well, since it's a machine translation, it could sometimes be inaccurate, and I don't think we need to delete pages that have been already created because manual translations could be more accurate.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 08:53, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
Both Donate/zh-cn and Donate/zh were translated by human I think. And /zh is good enough. In other words, /zh-cn is totally a redundant translation.--Tiger (talk) 09:52, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
What I meant is about the automatically generated variants (such as this). While I do think the all the variants are understandable (as even I, being a Japanese and share some characters in common, can understand them), I'm not sure whether they are all accurate enough.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:34, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
In most cases, MediaWiki just change Chinese characters between simplified and traditional form and does not cause problems. However, some of differences between variants can't be fixed in this way (very rare under circumstance of a site like meta). In Chinese Wikipedia, they use -{zh-cn:varient-A;zh-tw:varient-B}- for those complicated cases, but they don't deal with a translation system. forces users not to use variants. I'd better figure out how meta.wikimedia solve this problem (maybe they just ignore it since native Chinese are usually able to read other variants).--Tiger (talk) 12:52, 12 January 2019 (UTC) uses only basic word conversion function provided by MediaWiki and I see little complaints on inaccuracy of the conversion. One shortcoming of allowing translation to variants of Chinese is that content of variants can be not exactly the same (caused by outdated content and differences between translators). I'm not quite sure about what negative effects will appear if this proposal is realized. Just put it here for discussion.---Tiger (talk) 11:45, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

OK, I may want others opinions on this topic. For now, I'll ping @Laundry Machine: and @Msnhinet8:, as I know they use Chinese.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 13:48, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
I agree what Tiger said. Some pages include many Chinese variant translations (Such as Miraheze page) and more variants may be added in the future. Once the page is updated, we'll have to spend more time updating multiple Chinese pages. But I think we can remain zh-hans (or probably just zh) and zh-hant ( separate zh-hans and zh-hant, but they disable other Chinese variants) ? Unlike Chinese Wikipedia, in Miraheze Meta, the variants of Chinese cannot be automatically changed on the basis of users' preferred Chinese variant. People who use Chinese-Traditional may be hard to adapt Chinese-Simplified. But it's just my initial opinion. 📞Laundry Machine 15:01, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
Yes, the default variant chosen when you visit a "zh" translation is "No conversion" which shows original text the translator wrote. You need to select one in the menu. Is it possible to fix this technically?--Tiger (talk) 01:32, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Is it possible to create sitelinks to articles on my wiki ( from items (using Wikibase) to other articles on the same wiki? As it stands, my only options for sitelinks are to wikimedia wikis (i.e. Wikipedia, etc...)

ThutmosisV (talk) 09:48, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

Can you explain it to us in detail? I don't see what you mean by sitelinks.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 04:28, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
On wikibase item pages you have 6 sitelink fields (wikipedia, wikinews, wikiquote, wikisource, wikivoyage and other wikimedia sites) that you can edit (or at least I could, but now all I do when pressing edit is that I get a save and cancel button) by entering the linked article name and site id (e.g. enwiki). Is there a way to replace these sitelink fields with one or more fields that link to an article internally? Basically I want to use wikibase to hold data on specific entities that can be accessed throughout the wiki (and, potentially, other wikis) ThutmosisV (talk) 10:03, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
Hmm, I'm not sure. Maybe you can file a request on Phab to find out whether it's possible.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 12:36, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Censored by Miraheze staff?

Going about my usual editing, I noticed a couple pages on my wiki blanked out and replaced with the text "Censored by Miraheze Staff." The edit log shows it was vandalized, but a staff member moved it back to its correct location without reverting the page.

So what I'm trying to figure out is does Miraheze actually censor pages this way? Or was this just some vandalism that the staff forgot to fix? Want to be sure before I fix it. MZD (talk) 12:59, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Miraheze Staff do not censor pages in the way you have described, we don't censor at all - we take down content in response to legal or technical challenges usually in a way which most contributors will never see and won't be visible on the wiki (as you describe). Any such take downs will be followed by communication from the staff member who has done so through email or on wiki providing valid reasons, the situation that caused the response and relevant appeal/contest processes as appropriate. It should further be known that the user who revert the vandalism is not a staff member of Miraheze but a volunteer like yourself just with extended access granted by the global community. Problem adding Math extension

I try to install the Math extension, but that does not work. Here's my wiki extension page:

Usually, after selecting an extension and after pressing the Submit button, I got the message The settings have been successfully changed. But noting happens with the Math extension.

Do I have to edit manually LocalSettings.php file and if so, how ?

Hi, thanks for reporting! We have found the problem and have now fixed it! Paladox (talk) 19:35, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Not receiving Phabricator confirmation email.

Hello. I just created my Miraheze account this afternoon and took steps to register for Phabricator, however, I have not received the confirmation email in either my inbox or junk folder, even after nearly a dozen clicks of the "send another email" button. Can you help me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Itami Suzuka (talkcontribs) 05:36, 20 January 2019‎ (UTC)

Hi, i resent it. Did you receive it? Paladox (talk) 18:48, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Unable to use PDFBook extension

Thanks for the wiki, really appreciated !

I activated the PDFBook extension but I am unable to make it work.

I followed the instruction at this place:

So I try the following two URL on my wiki:égorie:Dictionnaire&action=pdfbook

It returns an error message "Unknown action" and "The specified action in the URL is invalid."

My site is in french. So instead of "Main_Page" I have "Accueil" and instead of "Category" I have "Catégorie" in the above examples.

Can this be a problem ?

Thanks a lot,

Odd, according to ManageWikiExtensions, the extension should be enabled. According to the extension is not. Could you try disabling the extension and re-enabling it please? -- Void Whispers 17:13, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I deactivated and reactivated PDFBook, but does not work. By the way, the message is "Parameters have changed" instead of something as "Successful installation..."

Try again, we've just updated one of the variables, as it prevented the extension from being installed properly. You are right though, that the wording of the messages should be improved upon. -- Void Whispers 17:56, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. PDFBook is now installed when I check the following page:

But I have the same error message: Unknown action.

Don't know how to use Collection extension

I don't know how to use the Collection extension.

I activated Electron PDF Service extension as mention at the entry for Collection extension in the extension page. But the Electron PDF Service extension does not seem to be installed if I check the version page:

In fact, the Collection extension does not seem to be installed either.

I don't see any new link or option in the main menu at the left of my wiki.

What can I do from there ?

Thanks a lot,

Hmm, since it looks like a technical issue, I think you should file a request on phab:.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 03:01, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Request for Interwiki of Tanukipedia and Dreamsciencewiki

I am BC of Tanukipedia and Dreamsciencewiki.

I edit in several wikis. If interwiki exists, I think it will be convenient. So I would like to ask you to add local Interwiki in Tanukipedia and Dreamsciencewiki.

Prefix url

--TANUKI (talk) 14:26, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Done Please note that we had to use small letter for the prefix "空想科学Wiki" due to technical reasons, which is actually registered as "空想科学wiki".--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 02:55, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

I'm not able to save any edited pages when edited in visual mode. I got the following error message:

But I can do changes in visual mode then switch to code mode and then save changes!

Is it possible to check this ?

Thanks a lot,

Usage of the DPL3 Extension

I've successfully enabled the DPL3 extension on my wiki here.

I tested it using:

Also see the info on columns in the full DPL3 manual

This does work, it shows a list of all the pages in the category "Topic", BUT:

  • Just above the list it shows "Sjabloon:Extension DPL". Why?
  • Results should be shown in 3 columns. But it's only 1 list in a single column

Request for Interwiki on Legrandmessager

Hi, I would like to set Forward to true to any Wikimedia and Mizahere wikis on Legrandmessager. Thank you -CreativeC (talk) 19:06, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

We can overwrite your interwiki prefixes by adding a local interwiki, but since it's a private wiki, it requires a Steward's help.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 08:11, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Is a namespace mandatory?

Hi to everyone,

I am new to the business and this ( is my first Wiki. Could someone help me understanding the namespace feature? While uploading pictures, I recently get a message like "The file 'user.jpg' already exists. Do you want to overwrite it?"

So, as far as I understand, I'm uploading in the main directory by default and I need to create my own directory or namespace. Is that correct and, if so, could you tell me how to do so?

Best regards, Michael

Most simply put, when uploading files, you need to make sure that each file has a unique name, otherwise it will overwrite an existing file. There is no way to create another namespace for files. If the file you are currently attempting to upload should not exist (you have not previously uploaded it), then it should be fine to overwrite. -- Void Whispers 20:41, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. Regarding my own files, all filenames are unique, but as far as I understand they collide with files uploaded by other users. For example, while uploading a picture called "Titelseite.jpg" (which means startpage in english) I got a message that a file called Titelseite.jpg already exists. That message occured while uploading the very first picture to my wiki and there was no content at all. The existing file was shown by the system. It was a Picture I have never seen before, showing a Detail of someone else's furniture.
There is a wiki extension, I do not know if it is enabled on your wiki, that provides that media files that exist anywhere in MediaWiki appear to already exist on your wiki. You are free to override any name so that it refers to your own upload rather than a MediaWiki file. This might account for the surprise you experienced. Spıke (talk)02:20 22-Feb-2019

How to change filenames starting with a "ß"?

I imported my Wiki from Wikia to Miraheze with the export/import function. In the old Wiki there were filenames that started with a "ß" and in the Miraheze Wiki they are somehow translated to "SS". In the filecategory I can see the files starting with a "ß" but when I click on them they start with "SS" and it seems that they don't exist under the new filename. When I upload the file again with the "SS" name I get a message that that file already exists under the old name. I can't delete the old files because there is no way to get acces to them.

Example If you click on this link and you scroll to the end you can see the files starting with a "ß" but when you click on them the open with "SS".

Is there a solution for this?

--Eelco (talk) 09:21, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

@Eelco: Sorry for the late response, this seems like quite a complicated language related issue. We will look into it however. Reception123 (talk) (C) 08:25, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

Is Visual Editing possible?

Hi. I was wondering if there's a way to edit a wikipage with visual editor instead of the classical editor and if so how.

If you are a bureaucrat on a wiki, you can enable Visual Editor using Special:ManageWikiExtensions. -- Void Whispers 20:01, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

Visual Editor error

each time I try to edit using visual editor a box shows up saying this "Error loading data from server: apierror-visualeditor-docserver-http: HTTP 404. Would you like to retry?". Each time I click retry it brings back the same box and asks me to retry again. The box doesn't let me use Visual Editor. How do I fix this?

Wait about ten to twenty minutes, some changes have to go through the servers first before they work properly. -- Void Whispers 20:35, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

Visual Editor Does not Load

For some reason when I try to use visual editor it just doesn't load. When I click it a bar shows up and it starts filling up. It fills up more than half way but then just stops and doesn't keep loading. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FearThePugs (talkcontribs)

I cannot confirm this issue with the details you have provided. Where is this issue taking place? What specific page? Are you getting any errors? -- Void Whispers 03:08, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

It is taking place in all pages in my wiki. It does not tell me that there are any errors (just the bar that I described). — Preceding unsigned comment added by FearThePugs (talkcontribs)

@FearThePugs: I have made the assumption that the wiki you are talking about is the one you requested (infamousreignwiki) and have taken a look. I tried using VisualEditor on your wiki and encountered no errors with it. Please tell us your browser and its version, as that could possibly be the issue. Some help with the Analytics

I have two questions regarding the MatomoAnalytics special page:

  • Is there a way to see the number of unique visitors in the last month? I can see several detailed statistics, which is great, but having the total number of visitor is essential for this kind of page, in my opinion. Has this been considered, or should I open a phabricator task?
  • For the numbers that are actually there, I'm not sure what time period they represent. The past month, an average, something else?

Thanks in advance! :) --Ondo (talk) 22:34, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

@Ondo: That is currently not possible, and I am not sure if there is anything that we can do about it, but possibly. So yes, I think it would be best if you opened a Phabricator task requesting this. Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:52, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
done, thanks. Any ideas on the second question? --Ondo (talk) 16:41, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
@Ondo: Which numbers are you referring to? Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:28, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
@Reception123: For example, Browser Usage or Number of Pages Accessed. --Ondo (talk) 17:30, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
@Ondo: It is monthly. Reception123 (talk) (C) 19:40, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

How do I view past edits on a page that has been deleted?

I'm from FANDOM, and another user there has been causing trouble and is now very angry. In his anger, he created propaganda pages about me and some other FANDOM users I know on the atrocious fandom users miraheze. I didn't take a screenshot as proof of this in time, and now the user that created the pages has deleted them. Is there any way to view past edits on pages that are now deleted so I can take a screenshot?

Here are the pages: page 1, page 2, page 3, page 4.

If the pages have been deleted, they can only be viewed by a local administrator or a staff member. What do you need these pages for? -- Void Whispers 22:30, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Is there a way I can add infoboxes into my wiki (like the ones on wiki fandom)? I have looked into the extensions and haven't found anything I could add to my wiki that is to add an infobox. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FearThePugs (talkcontribs)

@FearThePugs: Please see User:Void/Infoboxes. Reception123 (talk) (C) 09:03, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
@Reception123: Do I just import this into my wiki? . Or do I have to edit it before importing it to the wiki (as in adding info).
@FearThePugs:, I'm afraid that in this case @Reception123: appears to be barking up the wrong tree. To enable fandom infoboxes you need to go to Special:ManageWikiExtensions and enable PortableInfobox. To create an infobox you need to go to template:<name_of_infobox_here> and then use the format explained here (we don't have infobox builder). Glad you've decided to leave fandom, they have become as crooked as a canine's hind leg and it is turning into a real doghouse.
