A question
How do I make certain logs appear in recent changes? (Like avatar upload, abuse filter, and page creation) InspecterAbdel (NLW) 15:05, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- Not sure if it's on ManageWiki. If it isn't, ask on Miraheze Phabricator. —MarioMario456 15:46, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- InspecterAbdel Abuse filter changes and abuse logs will not appear in RC, as far as I'm aware. I personally wish they did, but this would need an upstream Wikimedia Phabricator feature request. Page creation logs can be enabled in Special:ManageWiki on your wiki. Not completely sure about the avatar upload log, but this should also be possible as well. If not, you'd probably need to file an upstream Wikimedia Phabricator feature request for the SocialProfile extension. Dmehus (talk) 15:51, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- As for the abuse logs and abuse filter changes, you can just check Special:AbuseLog and Special:Log/abusefilter on-wiki on regular basis. Perhaps add it to your calendar as a recurring event item? Dmehus (talk) 15:51, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
CSS
Can anyone tell me what elements the tabs (Page, Discussion, Read, Edit, etc.) use in CSS, and how to color them? InspecterAbdel (NLW) 16:22, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- So you want to change the background color of the page or just some tabs/sections? Or do you mean what you see at the top of each page before the content starts (Project Page, Talk, Edit, Edit source, Move)? Anton (talk) 16:38, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- The tabs. The ones that says edit, history, etc. I don't want them white, I want them to be colored as #A0522D InspecterAbdel (NLW) 18:16, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Okay. Then copy this code:
#ca-view { background: #A0522D; } #ca-history { background: #A0522D; } #ca-edit { background: #A0522D; } #ca-unwatch { background: #A0522D; }
- Thanks. Anton (talk) 18:32, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Doesn't work for some reason. This is what my MW:Common.css page looks like:
#content { background-color: #f5f5dc; } body { background-color:#f5f5dc } div { color:black; } body #pageWrapper { margin-right: 10px; } /* Head */ div#mw-page-base { color: #f5f5dc !important; background: transparent; background-image: none; } #ca-view { background: #A0522D; } #ca-history { background: #A0522D; } #ca-edit { background: #A0522D; } #ca-unwatch { background: #A0522D; } #ca-talk { background: #A0522D; }
- Is there something wrong with it? InspecterAbdel (NLW) 19:02, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Also the colons were added as a result of this reply. InspecterAbdel (NLW) 19:04, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- NVM, it works, but how do I (sorry) change the color of the link in the tabs? InspecterAbdel (NLW) 19:13, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Delete colons. It not works. What link you mean? Anton (talk) 19:51, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- When you click "edit", it's a link. The colons were because of the reply link, not the original page. InspecterAbdel (NLW) 19:54, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- I removed those colons for you. Turtle84375 (talk) 20:28, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

No problem! Yeah, it's probably best if you post one thread promoting your wiki on community noticeboard, add your wiki to Gazetteer of wikis, then join us on IRC, ideally in #miraheze-offtopic connect but also #miraheze connect, and Discord to ask for specific help on your wiki. As a helpful tip, rather than proposing to create an English Wikipedia fork wiki, why not propose to create a wiki on a topic of particular interest to you, and, ideally, one of interest to others? Since there's, well, English Wikipedia, it's very difficult to attract interest from other editors to an English Wikipedia fork wiki. Dmehus (talk) 23:06, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

- These links are usually used in MediaWiki:Edittools (example on this wiki) system message.
- Use <charinsert> tags with a space-separated list of characters or tags for which you wish to allow insertion.
- Clicking the links will have no effect since there is no input or edit field.

Wiki Ideas?
Hey all, I'd like to start a public wiki, as a balance-out to my current private wiki (it doesn't have to have anything to do with TurtleWiki though), but I thought I'd get your guys' ideas for what would be a common interest that people would actually enjoy editing on. I tried with a previous public wiki, but it didn't really hit off, so I've closed it and will likely let it go dormant, but I still want to experience both ends in terms of running a wiki. So, any topic/scope ideas? Thanks, much appreciated! Turtle84375 (talk) 04:20, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- Do you use scratch? Maybe Scratchwiki is a good idea (scratch.miraheze.org) InspecterAbdel (NLW) 14:13, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- InspecterAbdel Hmm, the only problem with that is that Scratch already has its own wiki lol, but I do have an account. Turtle84375 (talk) 17:36, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- That wiki is bad. We can make a better one here on Miraheze. InspecterAbdel (NLW) 17:43, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- InspecterAbdel I just don't want it to seem like it's a content fork. Turtle84375 (talk) 17:51, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- InspecterAbdel Also, I'm curious, how is it bad? Turtle84375 (talk) 17:51, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Turtle84375: The pages seem to praise the scratch team, and the pages about the moderation seem to defend themselves, making an account there is very hard (I tried before), It has a bad layout, and the april fools pages are not funny. (I haven't been there in a while, since June 2020, but I didn't like the wiki) InspecterAbdel (NLW) 18:09, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- InspecterAbdel Well... yeah, they're trying to keep their spotless reputation intact, not an easy thing to do in the digital world for as long as they have, so they (unfortunatly) have to control, control, control. I'm just concerned that making a new Scratch Wiki could potentially cause some conflict/would be essentially a fork. Turtle84375 (talk) 18:15, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

What wiki ideas should I come up with in the future?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 15:18, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
Copyright Trolls on All The Tropes
This is a general heads-up to the Miraheze Community. According to Matomo Analytics, All The Tropes has been visited multiple times in the last week-plus by Higbee & Associates, a noted "copyright troll". Although we're certainly the largest target, there's no reason to assume we are the only wiki at Miraheze they have visited or plan to visit. You may want to ensure that your content is not likely to net you a "pay up or else" letter from them. Looney Toons (talk) 18:12, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
Why am I not the bureaucrat and admin of my own wiki?
Hi, I made a wiki called New Super Mario Bros. 2 and it says I'm not a bureaucrat or admin. How come? -Zai- (talk) 18:16, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- -Zai- This is likely due to a persistent bug when usernames begin with a hyphen, the CreateWiki extension is not able to grant
bureaucrat
andsysop
permissions, as it's happened on more than one occasion prior to this with the exact same circumstances. Anyway, this is nowdone. Universal Omega, please make sure you are checking the requesting user's CentralAuth after wikis are created, so we can catch instances like this and make the appropriate request to Stewards to manually grant the user rights. I do try and patrol the farmer log, but hadn't yet reviewed the last several wiki creations. Dmehus (talk) 18:25, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- -Zai- To add to what I said above, I would personally strongly recommend you request a global rename, to remove the problematic initial hyphen character from your username, otherwise you will continue to experience technical issues with the MediaWiki software on Miraheze. Dmehus (talk) 18:26, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
The Monaco Skin
Why doesn't Miraheze have the Monaco skin. It is a skin that was used by Wikia for a short period of time and is now used by ShoutWiki. If you were on FANDOM in 2010 you might remember the whole “Monaco vs Oasis” debacle. Since Miraheze made a custom version of Oasis (Cosmos), I think that they should use Monaco or make a custom version, as it is a very popular skin. Here is an example of what it looks like on a wiki that uses it: http://awa.shoutwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Anti-Wikia_Alliance&mobileaction=toggle_view_desktop Blubabluba9990 (talk) 16:16, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Blubabluba9990: Hi. Miraheze did actually have Monaco for a short period of time but it was removed as it is not compatible with the newest versions of MediaWiki and also unmaintained. The skin similar to Oasis called Cosmos was not technically made by Miraheze, but by a volunteer and former sysadmin, Universal Omega. Perhaps he might be interested in doing something similar for Monaco, but that's for him to say. Reception123 (talk) (C) 16:26, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- Ok. I would like to see a custom version of that skin for Miraheze, since it is a good skin and is used by ShoutWiki, who uses MediaWiki 1.34, which is just two steps behind (ShoutWiki has not been in active development for a while and seemed to be partially abandoned by staff, though staff has come back. ShoutWiki also has less SEO than Miraheze, and Miraheze seems to be more popular nowadays. Since ShoutWiki seems to be in a bit of a pickle now with their Wiki Creation broken and partial dormancy, it would be nice for Miraheze to adopt Monaco, since if ShoutWiki closes the Anti-Wikia Alliance would have to move here, and they would want to have the Monaco skin as it was the whole Monaco vs Oasis thing that started the Anti-Wikia Alliance. Is there a way to hide the "Add as foe" button on SocialProfiles?
They can't be disabled due to limitations, but I question if there is a way to hide the link because they're forbidden on many of my wikis. —MarioMario456 21:17, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- @MarioMario456: You can hide the button via CSS in the MediaWiki:Common.css e.g.
.profile-actions > a:nth-child(2) { display: none }
but be very careful when editing the MediaWiki:Common.css, maybe you try first.profile-actions > a:nth-child(2) { background-color: #f0f }
first to check if the right parts are affected, display: none
is a very dangerous action in the MediaWiki:Common.css, if you enter this without selector your wiki is gone for good unless a global steward helps you out --Lilytalk and I will listen · Lilypond Wiki 22:12, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- Lily Interesting, but when you say "your wiki is gone for good," in what way? I don't doubt that, as you're quite knowledgeable when it comes to CSS and JS, but I'm just wondering if it would be a technical issue that require system administrators to handle with a maintenance script or database edit. Dmehus (talk) 22:27, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
- It would result in the entire wiki interface being hidden, which would make it impossible to edit without either using the API or just disabling the styles using the browser devtools. Nothing that would require sysadmin intervention to fix. — Arcversintalk 02:54, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

- Ah, thanks for clarifying. I was having trouble visualizing what the solution would be, so in that case, it may not even need a Steward; rather, it just needs someone with the necessary local permissions to edit via the API or just first disabling their web browser's CSS/JS. Done. The problem with what you said above when you didn’t make it work is that the image given above cannot be added. Probably because it lacks a file format. I saw the Miraheze logo with a file format (png) at the end. You have to take another picture and add it in the same way as I advised above. Also, MediaWiki:Sidebar was missing from your wiki (and then I didn't get anything visible), so I created it. I just posted a message on your talk page about the same thing. Currently, Sidebar does not have a background image, for the reason mentioned above. Anton (talk) 17:21, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

How do I fix this? InspecterAbdel (NLW) 18:36, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
- InspecterAbdel Easy fix. On the page where the error is referring to (in this case, Documentation/styles.css, I'm assuming), click "page information" in the sidebar, locate the row labeled "content model," and click "change." Wiki inactivity signs
I have noticed that every time a wiki gets closed, it will say “This wiki has been closed because there have been no edits for the last 60 days” even if the wiki was closed by a local bureaucrat and a steward. I think that the sign should be changed so that if the wiki was closed either by a local bureaucrat or steward it would give the latest ManageWiki log, like with deletion and protection logs, so that it would be easier to tell exactly why the wiki was closed. There is also another thing: Is there any specific time when an inactive wiki gets deleted? The sign says “6 months” but it seems to take longer. Atrocious YouTubers Wiki and Toxic Fandoms & Hatedoms Wiki, for example, have been closed since September 6, 2020 and have not yet been deleted. Despite this, the exemption policy lists a specific amount of days. There seems to be a lot of grey area regarding that. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 21:35, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- Blubabluba9990 Non-exempt wikis are marked as deleted automatically after 180 days since the date the of the last RC edit or log action, excepting some actions like global renames and CentralAuth automatic user account creations. Alternatively, if a wiki is manually closed, then they are marked as deleted after 135 days since the date of last RC edit or log action. The wikis you refer to have not been deleted yet because of certain extension-added user rights that still allow users to perform certain actions. Thus, I plan to discuss with the Steward team about manually marking the wikis for deletion. Dmehus (talk) 01:14, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

What happened to the Cartoon Fatness wiki? Did it got taken down because it had not encountered the guidelines? I recall seeing a URL for that domain almost a year ago. How do you make a multilanguage wiki?
I know there are some tutorials but I just can't understand them. For example, why can't miraheze just make an "add new language" button on the left side? I'm struggling hard now, please help me, thx! Tenkafuma (talk) 11:38, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- There is an extension called Translate for this purpose and with this you are able to have translated pages like Meta does. For an example of how that works you can see the Main Page here. --DeeM28 (talk) 17:17, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- I know the translate template but I'm confused by the steps. It said that I needed to download or change the localsetting thingy, but how do you download miraheze? My mother language isn't English so maybe it's my bad for misunderstanding. But, again, can't miraheze just simply make an "add new language" button on the left side in default? Like the wikipedia. Tenkafuma (talk) 12:13, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- It is also worth considering the introduction of the ContentTranslation and UniversalLanguageSelector extensions in this regard. You can also see these on Wikipedia, and they usually come from Wikidata, which requires the extensions WikibaseClient and WikibaseRepository, among others. WikibaseRepository comes in a repo wiki (like Wikidata), and a WikibaseClient client wiki (like English Wikipedia for example). As far as I know, the Translate extension alone has nothing to do with the sidebar. Anton (talk) 12:52, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- Again, ContentTranslation needs to install, but the next question is how to download miraheze? It's confusing. Tenkafuma (talk) 13:17, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
- Tenkafuma Well, the "add new language" is for interlanguage wikis—that is to say, one language per wiki. You asked about a multilingual wiki, for which DeeM28 appropriately recommended the Translate extension. Regarding extensions and configuration, that's the danger in relying on MediaWiki.org extension documentation on Miraheze. In most cases, you can configure extensions on Miraheze in ManageWiki, a Miraheze-developed extension for wiki management. ContentTranslation can be requested, and I thought about requesting that actually. If something can't be configured in ManageWiki, you can request on Phabricator for a system administrator to configure it for you in
LocalSettings.php
on GitHub. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 14:25, 12 May 2021 (UTC)- Thx for your help, I guess I'll just make them separately. One language per wiki seems to be the only solution.Tenkafuma (talk) 02:17, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- I mean, there's pros and cons to both. Feel free to explore Meta Wiki's various content pages in both
(Main)
andMeta:
namespaces to see what is possible with a multilingual wiki using the Translate extension. I do tend to prefer multilingual wikis. Alternatively, explore —revi's Revi HQ for an example of a multilingual wiki (in practical terms, it's a bilingual Korean and English wiki) without using the Translate extension (i.e., translated subpages are manually created and translated, with a common template footer added to each page). See also MacFan4000's related point on the streamlining related to the Translate extension coming with MediaWiki 1.36. Dmehus (talk) 14:30, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Main page help
Hello, Miraheze users,
Can someone make me a main page for: https://quyraness.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page to be copied to an offsite wiki that looks better then the one I have. Thinking of having a highlighted pages box, the backstory of the world, link to recreant changes and whatever you think would look nice. Color wise, want it to fit into the new Vector colors.
Looks wise, inspired by Wikipedia main page if possable, unless you have another idea, as I am open to other ideas. I would rather find a way to do it with CSS over templates if possible.
Thank you for your time. TheBurningPrincess (talk) 12:40, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

If it's just a user right configuration or something that can be done on-wiki in any way, this is the best venue, as the Phabricator ticket will be closed as invalid. Permission Help
Hi please I want a System admin to help deleted the extended confirmed user group in my famepedia wiki from the backend and its impossible for me to delete from over here. I wanna recreate it cuz I'm having some conflicts. @Dmehus: Ugochimobi (talk) 21:58, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
- Ugochimobi We've just completed the addition of the restriction level, so I'm not sure why you're wanting to delete either that or your extended confirmed users group. Instead of proposing to delete something that was only recently added, can you instead describe what issue(s) you are having? The reason I ask is because I've tested protection on both wikis, and did not encounter any issues. Dmehus (talk) 22:18, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Do you get me? @Dmehus: Ugochimobi (talk) 22:22, 23 April 2021 (UTC)- Ugochimobi Oh, yes, I see what you mean, and I wondered if you intended for
Extendedconfirmed
to contain an initial capital letter or not. This can be changed if you really want, but the group name should not contain spaces and, ideally, underscores as well. If you just want to change the displayed name of the group, you would just define that with MediaWiki:Group-Extendedconfirmed and MediaWiki:Group-Extendedconfirmed. In the page text, you would type:Extended confirmed users
. I can create them for you if you want. Dmehus (talk) 23:10, 23 April 2021 (UTC)- @Dmehus: I want the page text to be

You can take care of the page text with the above-noted MediaWiki interface messages, though I would recommend, strongly, an initial character of the first word capitalized. And you can't delete the user group in ManageWiki? I mean, yes, I get the idea of wanting to delete and recreate that group, but it will mean another GitHub PR on the one wiki (the other wiki it's not capitalized). Translate parser function not working
the <translate> </translate> and <tvar></tvar> parserfunctions aren't working for FAMEData Ugochimobi (talk) 12:23, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, it does appear to be working, but with something like your main page, you are using lots of templates. With templates, if they are translatable, they need to be loaded inside of Template:TNT (although that won’t be needed in MediaWiki 1.36). Currently, without Tenplate:TNT you will see raw translate tags. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 13:15, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Hide the administration links on the sidebar
How could I hide the administration shortcut links on an wiki's side bar? Song Ngư MGR (talk) 05:44, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- Song Ngư MGR Are you referring to the links that say "Manage this wiki's core settings" and the like? I'm not sure if those can be hidden, perhaps through Common.css or .js it's possible, but if your worried about other users being able to see them, they can't, only users with the
managewiki
right on the wiki are able to see them. Turtle84375 (talk) 05:57, 15 May 2021 (UTC)- So then, how can I make that list collapsed by default? (sorry if my English is bad) Song Ngư MGR (talk) 06:14, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Major bug with uploading images
On Different History Wiki and Sephspace, I uploaded some images. Unfortunately, I got this message when I tried uploading some of them:
Could not open lock file for "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/4/40/SpongeBob_fan_text.png". Make sure your upload directory is configured correctly and your web server has permission to write to that directory. See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Manual:$wgUploadDirectory for more information.
I had no problem with uploading images before, so what happened? Please note that this happened with some other images as well, not just the image mentioned.

- Trevor807 Sometimes this can be a back end technical infrastructure issue that should be reported on Phabricator. In the case of the file on
sephspacewiki
, I was able todelete it as part of troubleshooting this request. Given that this was done with globally assigned user rights, I suspect, in this case, it's likely a local user rights issue whereby you, or an administrator, don't have all needed user rights to delete File: namespace media files or something like that. What new wikis are you guys going to create?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 16:12, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
Something very strange
I just noticed something very strange: https://trashyvyondvideos.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=newusers&user=&page=&wpdate=&tagfilter=&wpfilters%5B%5D=newusers If you look at the User Creation Log on Trashy Vyond Videos Wiki, it looks like on several occasions multiple different user accounts were all created at the same time. Though this may just seem like a coincidence, I am not sure how 4 different users logged into Trashy Vyond Videos Wiki all at once, and then a bunch of users logged in at the same time two times before. One of these users is Inkster, who is globally locked, so I am not sure how that is possible. Is this like an account creation glitch? Blubabluba9990 (talk) 22:55, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- It also happened here: https://wretchedyoutubevideos.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=newusers&user=&page=&wpdate=&tagfilter=&wpfilters%5B%5D=newusers Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:00, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- That is likely because someone imported pages from an existing wiki (likely DarkMatterMan4500 if I had to guess), and opted to assign edits locally where the same username/userID existed within the Miraheze user table. Dmehus (talk) 23:02, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- Dmehus It was. I was simply importing pages relating to GoAnimate/Vyond videos from the Horrible Vyonders Wiki, and Atrocious YouTubers Wiki. I also imported a few templates from both wikis as well. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:08, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, that makes sense, because I had also seen those users make edits from before their account creation showed up. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:16, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- This has also happened on two other wikis: en.gyaanipedia.com and fr.gyaanipedia.com, and I am not sure what either of those wikis are but if one looks at the account creation log in those wikis, the same thing happens, idk if pages were merged there because I am unsure of the purpose of both wikis. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:46, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- I looked it up it looks like it is some sort of Indian version of Wikipedia even though it is in english and french. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:48, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Something I noticed
I was looking through my CentralAuth page when I noticed that https://miraheze.org is listed as one of my "local wiki" accounts, even though https://miraheze.org is not a wiki... Additionally, the page says that I (somehow) have 28 edits on said site, and am a 'sysop' there. However, when I click on the link to go to the site (which it thinks is a wiki, so it tries to link to a userpage), it brings me to a 404 page. Does anyone know 1.) what this is and/or 2.) how it's possible for me to have 28 edits as a sysop on a non-existent wiki? Thanks! Turtle84375 (talk) 22:25, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- Turtle84375 Yes, that's an anomaly with CreateWiki and the CentralAuth extension and stems from wikis which have been marked as deleted, but which have not yet been purged. You can see a list of all deleted wikis here. When system administrators next run the wiki deletion script, those wikis will drop from your global accounts and, in turn, your global edit count will drop by the requisite number. Dmehus (talk) 22:28, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

mywikipediawiki
prior to its deletion? That'd be my leading guess. Dmehus (talk) 22:32, 16 May 2021 (UTC) - (edit conflict) Dmehus
Thanks, that's the explanation I was looking for. I do see a wiki I contributed to but is now on that page, so that explains the edit count and 'sysop' badge. Turtle84375 (talk) 22:34, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- No problem. Glad to have helped. It's a good, though niche, question I'm sure others have wondered and will likely find this answer interesting. As an aside, I had nearly 100 deleted wikis on my global accounts page, and lost about 65 wikis in the last deletion batch. :) Dmehus (talk) 22:35, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- Dmehus Yeah, that's gotta be a pain as far as losing all of your local edits, which in turn add up to your global edit count. I guess it encourages you to stay active! ;) Thank goodness Meta's not getting deleted anytime soon. Turtle84375 (talk) 22:43, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Editing the small copyright notice
Hello. I did like to have a question about the MediaWiki namespace. Is there any page on MediaWiki namespace to edit the copyright notice at the end of a page? Original content of that page look like this: "Content is available under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) unless otherwise noted." Could you find it for me? - Are you wanting to change your wiki's copyright license from the default and, in turn, the footer message, or are you just wanting to modify your copyright message? One can be done with an interface message; the other requires a Phabricator task. Dmehus (talk) 04:10, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Dmehus: The wiki's default copyright settings can be changed in the settings section edit --Lily
talk and I will listen · Lilypond Wiki 04:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Deleting local accounts
I don't like how the CentralAuth system will automatically create an account every time you visit a wiki, because occasionally if you accidentally click on a wiki it will randomly create an account even if you never intend to use that wiki and just clicked on it. Since there is a way to delete global accounts, I think that there should be a way to delete local accounts, or remove them from the global account. This would be so that a user would not have accounts clogging their CentralAuth, including wikis that they never intend to contribute too. Just look at my CentralAuth, I have a ton of accounts: Special:CentralAuth/Blubabluba9990. This has also happened to stewards and wiki creators if they create a requested wiki, which is why they have tons of wikis in their CentralAuth. Of course, you would have to request for a local account to be deleted because this would only be able to be done by people who can edit a user's global account. There could also be a way for local accounts to be automatically deleted after a certain period of inactivity, like wiki dormancy. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:55, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi,
- Unfortunately this is not supported by CentralAuth. On your point regarding Wiki Dormancy, if a wiki is deleted for any reason. It will be removed from CentralAuth too. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 06:32, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- I know. That would probably be something I would have to talk about with the MediaWiki developers, specifically the ones who developed the CentralAuth extension. Because I have some local accounts that I want deleted, and the only way to delete them would be to delete the wikis I guess. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 14:18, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- I mean, technically speaking, local user accounts can be unmerged from a global account, but they can't be deleted. They'd have to be merged into another account and then merged into that separate global account. However, without a very good reason, it's simply not a scalable practice on a wiki farm with ~4,200 wikis and ~125,000 global user accounts. Dmehus (talk) 14:58, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- Ok. So if I wanted a local account gone, I would have to create another account and merge the local account into the other global account.
- Interesting how it is possible to delete global accounts but not local accounts. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:31, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- Is there any way I would be able to speak with MediaWiki developers to get them to add a feature to CentralAuth to delete local accounts. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:34, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Infobox trouble
Hi. I'm having trouble with infoboxes in my wiki, senditpedia.miraheze.org. I can't seem to get the infoboxes to appear on the right side of pages. I'm also wondering why the "Script error: No such module "Check for unknown parameters"." keeps popping up. Could someone please take a look and offer some tips? Thank you! Hogan (talk) 14:17, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- You need the module Check for unknown parameters. For example, you can copy it from English Wikipedia. You can adjust the Infobox location in Common.css on your wiki. Anton (talk) 14:21, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Kyosu-tanni.

Perhaps if you can clarify your request a bit more, preferably privately off-wiki via direct message to me on either Discord or IRC, we can reevaluate whether there would be a justification here, as even changing the wiki requests' visibility is an edge case certainly. A question
I have noticed some users have the username "MirahezeGDPR" followed by a long string of random characters. At first I thought that these were just socks, they seem to be friending each other which makes me think that these are actually different users. And above, I saw something talking about users getting "GDPR'd". What does this mean? Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:43, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- Also, some of these accounts are apparently globally locked, but nothing shows up in CentralAuth. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:46, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- Blubabluba9990 GDPR is an acronym that refers to the European Commission's General Data Protection Regulation. When the UK left the European Union, it adopted similar legislation known as the Data Protection Act of the United Kingdom that is functionally similar to the EU's GDPR. As well, presumably as part of the UK's exit agreement from the EU, UK organizations and companies are required to adhere to the GDPR for European Union citizens/residents. As a UK-based not-for-profit corporation, Miraheze Limited is legally obligated carry out its obligations under both the UK's Data Protection Act and the EU's GDPR. Collectively, "GDPR" commonly refers to both legal regimes. The reasons for the instances you mention can range from Miraheze Limited being legally prohibited to collect personal information from users under a certain age (13) to EU/UK citizens requesting Miraheze Limited remove their personal information. Likewise, non-EU/UK citizens can also request to have their personal information removed, and Miraheze Limited would still oblige their request (although for EU/UK citizens, there are timelines in which the process must be completed and other reporting obligations to the UK data regulatory authority). Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:37, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
- While the anonymized account will still be displayed in CentralAuth, the log entries related the account's creation, actions the account performed on all attached wikis, and the account's renaming and anonymization must be removed, hence why you see no rename log entries for the account.
