Hi, on my wiki it shows that the following accounts were created automatically in my User creation log:

01:50, 11 September 2020 User account InternetArchiveBot talk contribs block was created automatically

01:23, 1 September 2020 User account Pppery talk contribs block was created automatically

I'm unsure what this is (e.x. spam) since neither me nor any other editors I've invited to my Wiki are using these accounts, thanks.--Callipedia (talk) 18:37, 13 September 2020 (UTC)

@Callipedia: This is part of the Miraheze wiki configuration, and, unfortunately, cannot be changed. If a user is signed in on another Miraheze wiki when they visit your wiki, they are automatically signed in to your wiki by attaching their accounts upon visiting your wiki. Also, if you import templates from other wikis and choose to assign contributions to local Miraheze users, their accounts will be attached in that event, which looks like it may be the case given three of those users are local Miraheze users who contribute to Wikimedia wikis rather extensively. Can this be undeleted?

There was a talk page for a user. but they deleted it after Flow was added, I tried getting the old version back for proof that a user wanted to close the wiki but no matter what I did it did not work, I even tried renaming the page but that did not work, the page I'm trying to bring back can be found on the latest contribution of the user who made the message, their contributor's page can be found [here]. the edit says "Pages:New Section" and has "(+306)" on it, whenever I click diff it just brings me to the page that replaced the one I'm trying to bring back. and when I click hist it shows me the history of the page that replaced the page I was trying to bring back, and it does not show any edits of the deleted page. @ScratchCoder: I'm not familiar, personally, with the SocialProfile extension, but I'm not seeing any evidence that this has been oversighted, so I have procedurally moved your discussion from this discussion on stewards' noticeboard to here, where it is now more in scope, and someone may be able to help you. Looking through all those contributions, I just see empty social profile pages, so if a user has removed their information from their profile, they have that right to do so. So, I'm honestly and personally not sure this requires further investigation, to be honest. In addition, I saw no mention of the page(s) referenced on that linked "contributions" page for that user, so I can't really assist you, but in all honesty, I don't see the point—if a wiki is inactive, it will be deleted per Dormancy Policy eventually. I don't know why you could not see the edit on the talk page, but I decided to delete the current talk page and I was able to find the page I was trying to get back (but the page is still deleted.) here ScratchCoder (talk) 19:32, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
@ScratchCoder: That's because non-administrators cannot see deleted revisions. It sounds like a talk page was previously deleted and subsequently recreated over top of the existing one. What is interwiki

I hear you need to request interwiki admin rights from a steward, but I don't know what Interwiki is, and why does a steward need to assign it to you AppleCrunchy (talk) 19:13, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

@AppleCrunchy: Thank you for this question, and for providing me the opportunity to answer it for you. Essentially, there is an interwiki table that is global and which applies to all wikis. Currently, it exists here on Meta, at Special:Interwiki. In addition, there is a local interwiki table on the same special page on customer wikis, which allows for specific websites and prefixes to be added to that customer's wiki. We do have interwiki administrators who can add links, upon request, to any wiki's local interwiki table (usually by way of a request here on this noticeboard on Meta). If you meet the prerequisites, are active on Meta in some way, and are active on more than one wiki, you, too, can request global interwiki administrator at requests for global rights. It is also possible to organize either a local interwiki administrator election or appointment process on your local wiki(s). The current requirement is that you must hold bureaucrat rights on each wiki. You should ideally link to your local policies governing your local interwiki administrator election process, if you use an election, or your appointment/selection process, if you use an appointment or selection regime. If using a local election, you would also need to specify the candidate(s) running and number of position(s) open, in addition to the duration of the election and the minimum net support ratio required for success, the latter two of those four points in your election rules. Following this local process, you simply link to both your local policies and the local election in the format [[mh:subdomain:pageName|optional piped link]] in a new request on stewards' noticeboard. The reason that this user group is only granted, locally as well as globally, by stewards is because of the potential for malicious or grossly harmful external links from being added to the interwiki table, and the fact that MediaWiki software allows interwiki hard redirects, such that users are automatically redirected to the external website without any user intervention. Template error

Hello,

I have a wiki, a Hungarian wiki. I want everything to work. But it's not so. I made the mineral infobox (Ásvány infobox). And writes this: Warning: This page calls Sablon:Ásvány infobox which causes a template loop (an infinite recursive call). But why? Thank you for providing a link to your wiki. Only, I don't have permission to even read its pages!
When you get that error message, it is usually telling the truth. The last person I helped with this had an example on the template of how to call it. And, for illustration, the example called it (called itself)! Which would call itself, which would call itself, etc. Please look to see if you are doing this too. Templates are easy, all they do is repeat themselves in any page that calls them {{like this}}, although they can also make substitutions and do simple computing. Modules are actual programs that can do more complicated computing, I've never used them. However, as we say in FAQ, if you import something from Wikipedia, you must import the entire thing. That's all I know. I still don't have permission to read the template in question and point to where you are calling a module. Spıke (talk) 15:37, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
@Lois: I have limited experience with Lua modules as well, but it sounds like you may need to import the Lua module Module:Infobox. Can you see if that's imported to your wiki? I need help adding twinkle to my wiki

I added some interface pages, but I don't see any twinkle gadgets in there. I might choose Dmehus or Universal Omega to help me if I have many issues, and I'll make them both interface admins. AppleCrunchy (talk) 18:23, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

@AppleCrunchy: I thank you very much for the kind words and offer, and hope you won't mind, but I will likely have to ever so politely decline your most generous invitation, as installing Twinkle is a lot of work. Installing the actual gadget files is not too complicated, but you have to de-Wikipedia-ify all of the gadget code, mainly through updating the templates that it calls and your namespaces and all of that. Plus, you have to import all the templates and modules. So, in short, it's probably the most complicated gadget to install, and I would note that even Wikimedia's Meta Wiki does not have Twinkle (likely for this reason). @AppleCrunchy: Ah, okay. I was misunderstanding as we were discussing the Twinkle gadget in this thread. Do we have that extension installed on Miraheze? If so, you can enable it in Special:ManageWiki/extensions on your wiki. If not, you'll need to request it using the feature request form on Phabricator and our security reviewers and system administrators will review it for both security and compatibility, among other things. Using a different domain name as a URL

@Callipedia: Not related to your custom domain request for which @Reception123: provided you with the informational page, but I have also made your wiki's address into a MirahezeMagic interwiki wikilink. You can link to any Miraheze customer wiki using [[mh:subdomain:pageName|optional piped link]]. It works currently on all pages, but does not yet work in log summaries and edit summaries. Adding a template to a large number of pages

Special:Nuke not working for imported pages

I noticed that the Special:Nuke feature does not work for pages imported via the Special:Import feature.

There is a thread here about this along with someone offering a fix; I was wondering if it is possible to implement this fix on Miraheze wikis, thanks. (link) --Callipedia (talk) 17:09, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

@Callipedia: I believe this would likely be an upstream issue that would have to be resolved in MediaWiki, so would likely require a Wikimedia Phabricator feature request. Dmehus (talk) 17:49, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
Looking at the page you linked to, it seems like this is a manual patch of the Nuke extension, which can be done, but is often not done as it would require cherry-picking the code with every Wikimedia update that filters downstream to us, but I will {{ping}} @Reception123: to this thread to offer his opinion. In the meantime, you can file a Phabricator task on Miraheze Phabricator under the MediaWiki project and Maintenance workboard to list all the pages you require deleting. @Callipedia: I can confirm that we won't accept any modifications to Nuke other than those coming from the upstream extension. If this hack that you have linked us to works, I'd be surprised that the WMF haven't implemented it themselves. "429 Too Many Requests"

When I try using Miraheze on my computer I’m constantly getting the error message I stated in the title. If I manage to get past the error, the page I pulled up doesn’t fully load most of the time. Is there anything I can do to fix this? —DeciduousWater534 (talk) 22:41, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

@DeciduousWater534: I, too, am getting these error messages, so this suggests it isn't a problem with only me or only you. I suspect there is an issue with either (a) Varnish or (b) the cache proxies (Cp1Cp9). Just clarifying something, we don't have 9 cache proxies, only cp3, cp6 , cp7 , cp9 are in the, the rest have been decommissioned and were only in use previously. Reception123 (talk) (C) 13:30, 19 September 2020 (UTC)

Why Special:import doesnot work?

Duplicate search results for redirects?

If I start to type a few characters in the search box, if a redirect matches the title of an article and also matches the title of a redirect to that same article, it will show the target page twice as a suggestion. Daily5 (talk) 13:00, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

@Daily5: This is actually by design, and is one of the reasons to consider deleting redirects, particularly extraneous redirects that very closely match the actual title of an article, to allow the MediaWiki search engine to do its job more effectively by removing the duplicate title matches. It is actually the first reason for deleting redirects on English Wikipedia, as seen here. Note that there about ten reasons for potentially deleting redirects, there about as many different reasons for potentially keeping them. Hope this helps. Dmehus (talk) 14:12, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

Revocation of FireBarrier101's Wikicreator

The Pioneer has steward rights revoked?

Hi everybody. I've came back after a long period of hiatus. On the Stewards page, it says that The Pioneer is a former steward. I nominated him for steward last year; I don't understand why his rights were revoked. I don't think that his rights was revoked due to inactivity, as he is moderately active on Meta and other wikis, nor do I believe that he has done any wrong thing. Can you give me any pages or RfCs that passes to revoke the right of a steward? That would be very much appreciated. OwenFung87 09:57, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

@OwenFung87: While a revocation request was initiated regarding The Pioneer, he resigned his rights, as he's just not active on Miraheze anymore. He's issued a statement in his resignation. As to your topic ban, I don't believe nominating someone for steward is covered by your topic ban, but you really should not be nominating someone unless you've talked to them, and received their consent to do so, first. His only recent edits in September were so that he could resign so I do not think someone can call this "moderately active". And here you will find the policy that says a steward can be revoked by the community which is very normal. DeeM28 (talk) 07:25, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

Dark Mode

Hi, I use the Dark Mode extension, but whenever I change the page, it goes back to the default. Anything I can do? Already looked up the extension page (didn't find anything there), looked up the talk page (someone already forked the extension because of this issue) and couldn't go any further. The current DarkMode is not set up to persist on each page, though I believe there is some CSS code you can add to MediaWiki:Common.css in order to fix this. How to enable STL file uploads

To add to my wiki's user experience, I'm looking into adding support for 3D model viewing using the 3D extension. To use it I need to be able to upload STL files, which seems to be disabled by default. Is there a way I can enable STL file uploads on my wiki or request that the change be made? @CoolieCoolster: This should be possible. I would think, since it's technical-related, this is within system administrators' purview, and you should thus file a Phabricator task to request the *.stl file extension be enabled on your wiki. May we create the mirror site of mediawiki.org?

As everyone knows, users in China cannot visit some site of Wikimedia, such as zh.wikipedia.org or mediawiki.org (It works at a few time of July)

Wikipedia has lots of mirror site in China. For example the WanWeiBaiKe.

Now mediawiki.org does not work in China. And it has lots of helps about using Mediawiki, especially extensions and versions. It is important.

Then I have a thinking: may we create the mirror site of mediawiki.org like wikipedia?

Or, create some infowikis. Such as MediawikiExtensionWiki, MediawikiHelpingWiki, MediawikiVersionsWiki, and so on.

I do not have enough power .It is only throw away a brick in order to get a gem.

@Spike: raises a good philosophical question. As I understand it, users from China already have to request either a local or global IP block exemption on Miraheze, so this wouldn't be my primary argument against this. My main concern would be both the timeliness and accuracy of keeping the forked MediaWiki.org website up to date, to be honest. It's a good-faith idea, and I can't say I'd be opposed, per se, but I'd want to see an exhaustive and thorough proposal, to be sure. Dmehus (talk) 18:13, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
@Spike and Dmehus: As far as I know, some wikis of Miraheze are inaccessible. For exameple the uncyclopedia. And unnews is all right. @开炸弹车: The "esu" wiki(s) you cited were indeed shut down, deleted, and are now kaput by stewards. As a wiki creator, I take a critical eye to proposed new Chinese language wikis with vague or unclear descriptions, and routinely decline them as such. Dmehus (talk) 02:33, 19 September 2020 (UTC)

@EijiZeBoi: This is a good question and, though I'm not sure this can be done by modifying the interface messages, it may be possible with your wiki's common.css file. This line is called a portlet, and the items in it are simply links to other pages. You can indeed affect its appearance, including making some items invisible, by edits to MediaWiki:common.css (for all users) or to User:EijiZeBoi/common.css (for yourself only). You can do more complicated things, such as rearrange them or insert code, by editing the corresponding common.js file. I do a little of this with jQuery here on Meta in my User:Spike/common.js. In Firefox, you can use Tools / Inspector to find out what each element's ID is. Spıke (talk) 22:08 27-Sep-2020

Help required: Cargo extension recurring events (Template:Event Infobox)

Hello guys. After testing Extension:JsCalendar and finding several things we are not happy with, we decided to go on learning Cargo, which could be used for storing many variety things, included events, and Cargo Calendar wins for truly multi-language support and easy way collecting information from pages by posting Infoboxes and easy editing with PageForms. We spent a several days to learn and experimenting with Cargo on testcargo.miraheze.org and our magic.miraheze.org wikis. The building tables is learned. There are many examples we found on the Internet. But we stuck with creating a Calendar with recurring events, and no examples found, except some hints:

@Gomdoli4696: Thank you for posting this question on the correct noticeboard. There are two types of interwiki links, those which use prefixes from the interwiki table on a given wiki and MirahezeMagic interwiki wikilinks, which are a sort of pseudo-interwiki wikilink for Miraheze wikis. The former will work on pages and in edit summaries and log actions, while the latter will currently only work on pages. Each wiki has a Special:Interwiki interwiki table that is inclusive of both global and local interwiki tables. Any local interwiki prefixes override the global prefixes. Any interwiki administrator can add interwiki prefixes to any wiki's local interwiki table, except the global interwiki table on Meta. Other than AllTheTropes wiki, it is usually not necessary to add Miraheze customer wikis to the global interwiki table, notably because it would get unwieldy in a short hurry. So, with that in mind, what is that you would like to do? If you just want to link to your wiki, you would use a MirahezeMagic interwiki wikilink, like [[mh:subdomain:pagename|optional piped link]]. @Gomdoli4696: If you would like to add interwiki prefixes to your wiki's interwiki table, you follow the example set by Community noticeboard/Archive 12#Requests Interwiki administrators to change Interwiki in starting a new thread on community noticeboard. I should also mention that it is possible to become a local interwiki administrator on your wiki. Currently, requirements are that you must hold bureaucrat rights on the local wiki and, for larger wikis, show some evidence of support for you holding that position. Simply start a local election or selection page on your local wiki, then go to stewards' noticeboard, linking to your local wiki's election page, and a steward will grant you local interwiki administrator rights on your wiki. @Lois: I believe the sidebar likely has acceptable character limitations, likely due to the way in which the MediaWiki regex is followed. If you have a look at MediaWiki:Sidebar, you can follow that syntax. For translations of interface messages, though, you should use translatewiki.net, the updates for which are piped in to to Miraheze (presumably with a modest time lag/delay). If you are wanting to translate the links to specific pages linked in your sidebar, you can create a MediaWiki namespace interface page titled exactly as the full page name (including namespace) of the page being translated followed by the backslash and the applicable language to which you wish to translate that link. In the page content, you specify the name of that page in that language. For example, if I wanted to translate the Community noticeboard link into Swedish in the sidebar, I would format it as [[MediaWiki:Community noticeboard/sv]]. @Gomdoli4696: I don't believe these access URLs can be set on a wiki-specific basis, as those files refer to the relevant MediaWiki php configuration files on the web server. Thus, /wikipedia doesn't exist locally on the server. Potentially, it could exist as an empty folder, with a 301 web redirect to /w, but to what end? I'll {{ping}} system administrator @Reception123: to this thread to offer a second opinion, but I'm going to (somewhat) BOLDly say this X mark.svg cannot be undertaken for technical reasons. I've heard that 89AnimeChampMaster is having trouble with logging in. He has tried may times to log in but he has never actually gotten to logging in. It could range from a client-side issue whereby 89AnimeChampMaster just needs to delete his Miraheze web browser cookies and browsing history to a forgotten password issue whereby 89AnimeChampMaster simply needs to have a new password sent to his registered e-mail address to something server-side (i.e., potentially caught up as collateral in a global IP rangeblock requiring a global IP block exemption, for which he'd be referred to stewards at miraheze.org). @开炸弹车: I hope you don't mind that I fixed a few minor typos and formatting errors in your question. Anyway, to answer your question, this can actually be done on any page, whether a talk, user talk, main namespace, or project namespace page. It really doesn't matter where or in what namespace it is located. If you have a look at Community noticeboard/header, the header for this page, you will see there is a <inputbox></inputbox> that is used to create a text box to create a topic. You can even get fancier than that by adding an editintro notice (basically like an editnotice) and a preload that prepopulates text in the body of the message. Second, to your question, have you checked which pages or namespaces are set as "content pages," as that likely affects your wiki's Special:Statistics special page. @DarkMatterMan4500: No, no codes, as far as I know. It's just done in ManageWiki, specifically, at Special:ManageWiki/namespaces. There's an option to select whether to treat pages in that namespace as "content pages." By default, Main namespace pages are treated as content pages, I believe, whereas the others may not be. Getting The Number of Pages a User Has Made

@DMBFFF: The YouTube extension has <nicovideo> tags to embed niconico videos, just like <youtube> tags. For other video services, you can enable mw:Extension:Widgets and copy the corresponding widget from this website. @DMBFFF: Seems like you didn't call the Vimeo widget correctly in that page, the correct syntax would be {{#widget:Vimeo|id=}}. You should also undo this edit, as the previous revision is the correct one. Finally, I looked at Miraheze's CSP whitelist, and they don't have *.vimeo.com on there, so you would need to open a phabricator task to add *.vimeo.com to the CSP whitelist. @Lois: Those are added from interlanguage links to other separate wikis. You'd need an interwiki admin to add the interlanguage prefixes for your wiki. Then you'd add something like [[en:Title in English]] to the respective page. K599 (talk) 17:22, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

That way you prepare the page for translation. After saving, click on "translate this page" to indicate to translators that this page is available for translation.

@Emad4ald: To manage the extensions on your wiki, you have to go to the Special:ManageWiki/extensions page, a link to which should be in the wiki's left sidebar. Once there, you should see the list of extensions, which starts with 3D, AddThis, and HTML Meta and Title. Scroll down the alphabetical list until you reach the Universal Langauge Selector extension, or use CTRL+F to search the page for it. Assuming that it's enabled, it will have a blue checkbox, which you should click to disable. Once you have disabled it, to confirm your modification you return to the top of the page, click on the "Submit" tab, enter your reason for making the modification, and click the blue Submit button. Copyright Violations

Photos play important part on my wiki(s). Album covers, book covers, movie posters, photos of people and events are just few examples of media files I plan to include on my wiki(s). I know it's important to ask for permission when posting copyrighted content but, in my case, it would be very long and tedious process to ask copyright holder's permission for each photo I post. However, I'm pretty sure my usage of media files would fall under fair use but I'm not sure if a fair use law is applicable on Miraheze. For the record, I don't need to post high resolution photos, I am perfectly fine with posting smaller resolution photos (practice pretty common on Wikipedia when it comes to copyrighted content). But, it's important for me to be able to post (sometimes copyrighted) photos for illustrative, educational and referential purposes. Otherwise, my wiki(s) wouldn't be complete. So, Miraheze guys, do you think I could get permission to post copyrighted photos under the fair use rule on my wiki(s) without infringing on Miraheze's terms of use? @Luka Ibrišimović: It's a good question, and prudent of you to ask this question, but in answer to your question, yes, I think that it is absolutely in keeping with fair use and fair dealing laws in your country. As Miraheze just hosts the wiki, the applicable fair use/fair dealing laws are applicable to the wiki owner(s), as I understand it. So, you should be fine. That being said, if a rights owner complained that your use was not in keeping with fair use/fair dealing (i.e., not being used in a minimal) way, we would simply remove the offending content, but would never shut down a wiki for a single or even a few copyright complaints. As a general rule, I would recommend limiting the number of copyrighted images to one per unique rights owner on a given page on your wiki. Specifically, where you say that Miraheze "will delete your wiki in case of such request from pictures owner" (sic). That's simply not not true. Firstly, it really depends on the nature and context of the complaint, including from where the complaint originated, in order to determine whether it's within system administrators' or stewards' purview. Generally speaking, though, stewards, assisted to a somewhat lesser extent by experienced Global Sysops, enforce copyright complaints, typically in the form of deleting the infringing content not the wiki (as I already indicated in my above reply), and where multiple violations occur over a short timeframe, they would follow it up with a warning/firmer warning, as applicable, to local bureaucrats. For these sort of technical questions, possibly where there could be a server side configuration at play, it's usually best to join us on either (a) our Discord server or (b) on IRC at #miraheze connect as system administrators, together with an active community, will be there to engage with you and help to resolve the issue. You certainly don't have to use Discord or IRC, and we do have active community volunteers on-wiki, but it's just highly recommended as you'll receive much quicker resolution to your issue. Solved. The wiki had mark "Private". Strange, but all other content was available to browse but not Cargo tables content. After mark out "private," it works and shows events on calendar to unregistered visitors. Helper (talk) 15:42, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
@Helper: Your initial problem did not mention about anonymous and non-member and non-sysop users from being able to view your Cargo table's calendar events, otherwise I would've suggested this as the likely cause. Generally, though, when wikis are approved only as private wikis, you should check with another wiki creator or steward to review your wiki, and assess whether it can be approved as a public wiki. In your case, I had already previously approved it as either a private wiki (as requested) or a public wiki related to Cargo extension testing, so you are fine to make it public. But yes, private wikis are only readable by users in the member or sysop groups, so if you want to have a private wiki in the future and want to be able to welcome anyone to your wiki, you can add a link like an e-mail link on Meta or a link to your user talk page on your private wiki's public Main Page to allow users to easily request access to a private wiki. What you could do is either transclude or substitute Special:RecentChanges, narrowed to specific namespaces into a subpage of your userspace; however, that wouldn't give page-level monitoring. Spam accounts?

On my wiki there are so many new accounts that are created there, but they never do anything and some of them make one or two revisions, then disappear permanently, it is rather irritating. Do you have any idea on how I can deal with this issue? MarioSuperstar77 (talk) 15:29, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

There is no good solution, unless you want to modify your wiki's permissions to prohibit editing to anonymous users, or to "new users" defined as a number of days. A wiki is by definition a facility available for group editing, including by people who don't show a long-term commitment to the place. Spam (additions that clearly have no relevance where they are inserted) is a farm-wide problem and is patrolled globally. Still, wikis need active curators to revert spam locally. @MarioSuperstar77: (edit conflict) Unfortunately, spam only accounts (a.k.a. spambots) are one of the great plagues of wikis, or really most web services. There's not a whole lot you can do. As you note, they're relatively harmless, thanks to the global abuse filters, but you can locally block them if one of them manages to get past the abuse filter. Additionally, Global Sysops and stewards do routinely go through the global abuse log on Meta and globally lock the spam only accounts to prevent former spamming of wikis' abuse logs. Stewards, too, will check the underlying IP addresses of the spam only accounts and globally rangeblock, where appropriate, the underlying IPs to try and help prevent further account creation. You can manually grant edit permission by moving some of the permissions given to registered users to authorized users.Miraheze uses CentralAuth, so you might not want to worry about it. Import failed: No interwiki prefix was supplied

Hi, I am new to this wiki farm. I wanted to import some content from a XML exported from a MediaWiki managed elsewhere. But the import failed because No interwiki prefix was supplied. I have no idea what an interwiki prefix is. Help welcome. Gerdami (talk) 16:04, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

@Gerdami: Welcome to Meta, and to Miraheze. Please note that I have moved your question from stewards' noticeboard to community noticeboard where it is now more in scope. Also, thank you for signing your posts on Meta with four tildes (~~~~). To your question, this means that you need to include the prefix from either (a) the global interwiki table (here on Meta) or (b) your wiki's local interwiki table for the given wiki from where you're importing. If you use an incorrect interwiki prefix, the import should still work, but the imported contributions will not link correctly to their local user pages on the wiki from where the page/template was imported. It's also a good practice to include all revisions, and to select the option to "assign edits locally" where the user exists, so that in such cases, that user's contributions are linked instead to their local Miraheze wiki user page. If importing templates, you should also "include templates," as that includes any critical template dependencies. Finally, if the XML file is more than 250 MB, you will need to request on Phabricator (using your Miraheze MediaWiki login via OAuth) and attach the XML file for system administrators to handle. If importing multiple infobox templates from English Wikipedia, the XML files will be large, and it's recommended you request this on Phabricator anyway. Hope this helps. @Dmehus:Thank you for your help. I tried several times to import an XML that contains the Export from an existing Mediawiki. The size is a bout 4MB and 4,200 pages, i.e. not that much. I put en, then w' as InterWiki prefix. While I received the Error 503 Backend fetch failed, forwarded for 2a02:2788:925:f198:b5a0:2cfc:c2f8:afcd, 127.0.0.1 (Varnish XID 9419608) via cp7 at Sun, 04 Oct 2020 09:27:50 GMT., some pages were imported, and now there are 932 pages... still about 3,500 pages missing. I understand that I could use the Phabricator form to request help from the community to import the XML into my wiki, but I could not log in with my Miraheze credentials. @Gerdami: Yeah, though small in file size, that's a lot of pages, so you are bound to time out. A Phabricator request is best. What I recommend is making a list of all the pages that it didn't import, then request an importation, listing those pages in a separate text file (which you can upload or add in a Paste (under "all applications"). Make sure you are signing in your Miraheze login credentials, not your MediaWiki/Wikimedia credentials, and you should be redirected back to Meta to authorize the sign in. Alternatively, you can request deletion, also on Phabricator, of the list of improperly imported pages, then request, in a new request, importation of all the pages. Hope this helps. Template Wiki / Global Interwiki prefixes

Hi, I have several questions. Is it allowed to create own templates in the template wiki? If yes, would it be possible to add a new interwiki prefix for the template wiki e.g. "t" because "templatewiki" is much text. Alternative could you please create a new interwiki prefix "lily" for my Lilypond Wiki? So I could use templates from there in my other wikis which would save me a lot of work. @Lily: Thank you for your question regarding interwiki prefixes. I would be very hesitant, and reluctant, to add single-character prefixes to the global interwiki table here on Meta, mainly because of the huge ambiguity in what they could potentially refer to. More importantly, though, changes to the global interwiki table are currently undergoing a draft a RfC that should go live in several weeks (hopefully). These changes will mainly seek to specify on which wiki the global interwiki table is to be based, who is eligible to edit the global interwiki table, and under what conditions the global interwiki table is to be edited. @Lily: I have  locally added the t prefix for Template Wiki to the Lilypond Wiki's local interwiki table with both the forward and transclude flags enabled, per your request. When importing by uploaded XML file, you should now be able to use the t prefix to have users' edits from Template Wiki associated to their Template Wiki profiles (or local Lilypond profiles, where they exist locally). For transwiki importation, if you use that, a GitHub pull request will likely need to be done for your wiki to add this local prefix to the $wgImportSources variable for your local wiki. I wasn't quite sure about the second part of your request, though. To which wiki(s)' local interwiki tables did you want Lilypond Wiki added to? If you wanted that added to the global interwiki table, as the global interwiki table would become very unwieldy in a very short hurry if we added customers' wikis to the global interwiki table, we instead opt to use MirahezeMagic interwiki wikilinks, formatted as [[mh:subdomain:pagename|optional piped link]]. Hi @Lily:, you didn't ask me, but my opinion is that the Template Wiki is for experimentation/development and general-use templates, and not for templates that are merely common to your own wikis. Putting a template on Template Wiki would be like creating a page on Meta to better explain something on your own wikis. It might be, and you might start a thread on this page claiming, that a given template is so ideal for general use that it belongs on Template Wiki. @Lily:  Done. I've added the lily interwiki prefix to both of those added local wikis' interwiki tables. I should note that you should be able to import templates locally from Lilypond wiki using the file upload (i.e., uploaded XML file) method. If you want to use the transwiki import method, we'll have to add do a GitHub pull request for both of those wikis to add lily as a $wgImportSources import source in the drop-down menu. I enabled the "forward" flags, but not the "transclude" flag. The latter allows for scary transclusion, to transclude a page from another wiki without importing it. It generally works fine for basic pages, but for templates, since there are template dependencies needed on both wikis, it can be, well, scary. Nevertheless, should you wish for that flag to be enabled, {{ping}} me on reply to this thread, or begin a new thread if already archived. To add to what @Spike: said, yeah, anyone can absolutely add templates to Template Wiki. It's a community wiki, albeit not very active of late. The challenge there, too, is with few active local administrators, it can be a challenge to have certain templates imported. Of course, one can always request local sysop permissions at the community portal, especially if needed for template importation. @Lily: Oh, that's great. Thanks so much! I should also mention that, though interwiki administrator is most commonly known as a global role, one can request local interwiki administrator rights on their wiki. I'm currently drafting an interwiki reform RfC, but in the meantime, current global requirements for local interwiki administrator are that you must hold bureaucrat rights on the wiki(s) for which you're requesting. Additionally, if your wiki has any local permissions election rules specifying all or some positions must be elected locally by consensus, then you would need to hold a local election as well. However, looking at this page on your wiki, it looks like just you and Manuela are local bureaucrats, so it's likely not necessary to hold a local election. Should you wish to go this route, you would make a request for local interwiki administrator on stewards' noticeboard, linking to both your local wiki and any local election/permissions request page, if your wiki requires it. Of course, then you wouldn't need a global interwiki administrator to add interwiki prefixes for you, but if you planning on adding many prefixes, then it probably does make sense. Additionally, you also probably meet the global edit requirement for global interwiki administrator, to be honest, so if your activity on Meta were to pick up and you wanted to volunteer in this way, you can request rights for the global group at requests for global rights. Hope this additional information is helpful. Oh, by the way, I do like the work you've put into your wikis, and particularly like your German regional public transportation information wiki. If you ever plan on not being active on your wiki(s), you can request a Dormancy Policy exemption for one or more wiki(s), citing the applicable exemption criterion for each wiki(s) requested, at stewards' noticeboard. I need to show some page from mediawiki.org to our visitors in helping page. And I find that the transclude function of the Interwiki can do it easily. So I request Interwiki administrators to:

  • add some Interwiki prefixes:zw and zhwiki. The url is the same as zhwikipedia.
  • add the transclude function to mw and mediawikiwiki.

Also, I originally misread your request for the zw prefix as zh, which added it as the interlanguage prefix. This may have been what you wanted anyway, but if you still want zw added, let me know, provided, of course, that's not a valid language code for another language in which case, it probably won't work for being added to the local interwiki table versus the local interlanguage interwiki table. @AMITRAM: Phabricator is really for reporting bugs, known issues, configuration errors, feature requests, and security-related issued, so I probably wouldn't go there. If I knew the answer to your problem, I'd answer, but I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Media Viewer" or what the specific issue is. Perhaps you can clarify this a bit? You could also try connecting with us on Discord (you can even verify your wiki account using OAuth once you join our server), or IRC at #miraheze connect. Note that if you join the IRC channel using the Freenode webchat, your IP address will publicly visible in our IRC logs, so you may wish to use the freemium IRC Cloud, which includes a complimentary IRC cloak upon registering for an account. Switch default for recent changes to 45 days

When I see a new wiki I didn't know of, I don't know if that wiki is well maintained or not. And at first sight I don't know the level of activity, so I check Special:Recent changes. The dormancy policy makes it easier to know if wikis have more than 45 days of inactivity, but between 30 and 45 is difficult to know if the wiki is active or not. For this reason I propose to switch the default number of days in recent changes from 30 to 45 days, so people can see in an instant if that wiki is active or not without that range of doubt between 30 and 45 days.

Proposer does say the proposal concerns wikis he has just become aware of (therefore, other than Meta).
I welcome a change to 45 or 60. I maintain rfobasic.miraheze.org, a programming reference site, but edit it only when an issue is called to my attention. It would be helpful to go back further to verify that no vandalism has occurred during an extended absence. Thus, I believe changing this setting on Meta is all that's required at this point. Since, as a Consul on TestWiki, I can change this RC maximum setting in this section of ManageWiki, it holds that any bureaucrat should be able to make this change on the same page on their wiki, such as this section of ManageWiki on rfobasicwiki. Have just made the change on my wiki, which solves my particular problem. I agree with not changing global things, though local wiki bureaucrats retain ultimate local control. The question was because they wanted to be able to see how close a wiki was to meeting the inactivity policy and being closed from recent changes which you can't based on the default. Changing the default for what it's worth will not stop any wiki changing it back or to whatever value they want (up to 180 days but we can happily make that higher if I a wiki needed it. My concern is with the default amount of days on personal wikis that are new to me. And is related with the dormancy policy and with the inactivity period of wikis before they obtain some inactivity banner that makes them available on a request for adoption. What do you think about raising the default number of days in Recent Changes to ease checking wikis for adoption and wikis who are close to inactivity due to dormancy policy? This kind of wikis don't have local admins or are absent. So I can't count on the activity of a local admin to check the manage setting for RC on their side. Is best if sysadmins can view the amount of time left for adoption as global admins or if a common user can check the recent activity in the last 45-60 days. @Dmehus: , @Spike: , @RhinosF1:.

@Avengium: It's a bit confusing on how you are monitoring inactive wikis. Are you monitoring RecentChanges on Meta at requests for adoption, or do you mean that you're monitoring wikis' Special:RecentChanges where the wikis have very low activity to see when they go inactive? If the former, I think we can change this setting on Meta only. If the latter, I'm okay with this as there's a valid use case, but my preference would be for the default maximum RC setting to be set to 60 days (the period by which non-exempt wikis would become closed and thus eligible for adoption, well public wikis that is). I would also like to invite @John, NDKilla, and Void: to comment on whether this is setting change is within system administrator or steward purview. Though somewhat technical in nature, in which I can see the former having jurisdiction here, it's also related to procedural setting within the purview of all wiki bureaucrats, so I can also see community-elected stewards having primary jurisdiction here. @Avengium: On the other hand, why not just check the wikis you monitor and patrol within the thirty day timespan to ensure they have activity within a 30 day timespan? After all, if you perform an edit or log action within that thirty day timeframe, you'll be a bit ahead of the game and prevent the wiki from becoming inactive anyway (i.e., the inactivity "clock" will be reset). A useful proposal is to change the default setting for $wgRCLinkDays, the options for number of days that the form in RecentChanges presents, as I did yesterday on rfobasic as instructed above (pictured). I realize Avengium may not be a local bureaucrat on the wikis he monitors, and said wikis may not have active bureaucrats; however, in such cases, @Avengium: could also hold a local election requesting bureaucrat rights on said wikis, consistent with any local wiki policies as may exist (or global customs and conventions where none exist), and a steward would be able to assess the election after a reasonable period of in absence of an active bureaucrat. If we it's still desired to change this globally, I think this warrants a fuller community discussion, either a global RfC or, better yet, a full global community proposal on this noticeboard that articulates clearly both the need and rationale for the change. To add to what Spike and I said above, Avengium can always request a steward change the default maximum RC age setting in any wiki(s) where the bureaucrats are inactive in responding to his request, as it's quite a minor change. So this would have the effect of allowing Avengium to still monitor RCs up to 45-60 days on wikis he monitors while at the same time not making any global change. Moreover, though global in nature, this is a relatively modest global change, so I'm not sure a full RfC is indeed needed. I could do it @K599:, But I hadn't thought about it until now. About Spike's proposal, I think is useful for everyone, not just me. But I realize that there are several ways to achieve the same result. Part of this is because I am less involved in the wiki environment (and I use user friendly mechanics), and had not thought of the option that my global preferences could overlap and replace the default way of showing recent changes. @K599: Yeah, as @Avengium: mentioned, that's exactly what ended up being suggested in our conversations on the Miraheze Discord server. While I'm not necessarily opposed to changing the default RC setting for everyone as I do agree with Avengium that MediaWiki is not all that intuitive, especially when it comes to one's preferences and global preferences, I think we should be cautious at changing settings globally for everyone, overriding local wikis' discretion and autonomy, where only one or a few users may not be aware of other workarounds. I think what this discussion elucidated for us is that we could do well to create a FAQ question for Avengium's problem described above, and then provide recommended solutions for both wiki users and wiki owners.
