DifferentHistory Wiki

I'm trying to edit the CSS there but it says that the wiki is closed even though I go on there and regularly edit there every day. Same for all the Reception Wikis but Terrible TV Shows, even though there are plenty of users who regularly edit on those wikis. Is that a bug or something? I know the "Closed" box isn't checked, but the "Closed" notice is still there, so it must be a bug. A really nasty one, too. Can it be fixed? Also, Sofaking we todd it‎ lost the ability to post comments or create pages on Terrible TV Shows Wiki.

You Are Not Allowed to Post Comments should be changed into Please Login to Post a Comment on This Wiki

All wiki databases under this site branding has IP editing turned off. What about commenting? At the end of almost every page of said wikis there is a comment section with the following message before categories: You are not allowed to post comments.

As explained in the headline, it should be changed into Please Login to Post a Comment on This Wiki like Fandom which in turn is a host of wiki databases ranging from TV to games to film and fantasy literature.

Speaking of that website it should have the You Are Not Allowed to Post Comments but with While Logged Out added after. Sounds okay? It looks much better.

Your proposed wording is less intimidating. However...
 • Your assertion isn't universal on Miraheze. Admins on each wiki decide whether I.P. Anon will be allowed to edit.
 • Admins are also able to change the wording of the message you object to; it would be in a page in the MediaWiki: namespace.
 • The objectionable wording is probably the wording in a new MediaWiki installation. Miraheze is unlikely to change it on every new wiki by default.
 • "You are not allowed to post comments" might be given in situations other than not being logged in, so your proposed wording might be inaccurate sometimes. Spıke (talk)23:54 13-Apr-2020

Can't sign in

Nope. I know the instructions. But I don't know how to delete cookies on Miraheze like Meta and Toxic Fandoms and Hatedoms individually.

Plus I use Samsung Internet. I might run the risk of deleting site data of other sites I've signed in (e.g. DeviantArt, FIMFiction, Wikia). Plus there are other accounts signed which I do not know my own password. Freddie123, user of Toxic Fandoms and Hatedoms.

Depending on your browser, you may be able to filter by domain when looking at you cookies, and then clear those individually. You will have to look up how to do it on your device + browser. -- Void Whispers 20:26, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Wiki closed for no reason

For some reason, my community's wiki has been closed, despite the fact that one of the users of the wiki had made a page yesterday, which would have not warranted the wiki to be suddenly closed. Though from what it seems, Miraheze has been suffering through some technical issues as of late, so it could be from that. But anyway, I would like for Atlas wiki to be re-opened, as despite being an admin on my community's wiki, I am unable to click anything in Special:ManageWiki page for my community's wiki, and even so, it does not seem to show the 'Closed' box is checked. Miraheze really needs to do something about spam

I don't mean to disrespect anyone working their butt off here but the volume of spam my wiki is experiencing is getting out of control. Is anyone else experiencing 4-5 spammers per day making hundred of edits or it's just us? We never had such an issue on Fandom, and we had x 100 the readers we have here. The only thing that can stop spam is the AbuseFilter extension, which would be perfect if it wasn't so dreadful to write filters that work as expected; I tried multiple times, and all I got was annoying real editors.--Wedhro (talk) 23:08, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

@Wedhro: Whats the wiki? Hispano76 (talk) 00:27, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
@Hispano76: nonciclopedia.org --Wedhro (talk) 00:28, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
@Wedhro: There could be several simple ways to avoid spam.
Oblige the registered user to confirm his email using ManageWiki/settings (with the disadvantage of not allowing the edition of anonymous users)
Disable the creation of pages for anonymous and registered users and allow only self-confirmed users to create pages, for example.
Enable the Moderation extension, this would prevent spam from being visible and would require moderator approval.
Greetings. Hispano76 (talk) 01:01, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, but all of the above would disrupt 15 years of community working in a completely different way (Wikipedia-like).--Wedhro (talk) 01:03, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. About the filters I have no experience but I hope they can help you. It is likely that one of the reasons for the spam is the use of the at sign (@) that Wikipedia in spanish decided to use as an image within a template to avoid that apparently. Example on eswiki. Hispano76 (talk) 01:08, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
I have begun testing a filter on your wiki to see if I can catch some of this stuff. Additionally, I've gone ahead and CU blocked a number of accounts and IP addresses that were connected to the spam activity. -- Void Whispers 02:28, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Questions about MediaWiki:Common.css

Recently I gave Crappy Games Wiki a new look to it, but there's two small problems that I can't figure out how to fix:

How do I change the color of the collapsible tabs on the sidebar? They initially appear light grey, but then immediately revert back to their default dark grey color.

How do I change the color of the searchbar? It's a bit difficult to see with the dark background, especially the text that appears within the searchbar. --Seewater514 (talk) 05:20, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi, you would have to do #mw-panel.collapsible-nav .portal h3 a { color: <color> } Also the drop down arrows are images. So if you want to change their colour, you would need to upload a image and use that. Paladox (talk) 14:53, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, but the sidebar tabs are still the default color when they're collapsed. Is there any way to change that? --Seewater514 (talk) 23:43, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

A tip for everyone at MediaWiki:Common.css

Hello everyone,

I've been encountering the problem that the border of message boxes does not work after importing the messagebox templates from Wikipedia. You might also see this problem with message boxes.

That's because it needs MediaWiki:Common.css in order for it to work. I strongly recommend copying and pasting the original text in Wikipedia instead of importing them, as importing the page may require a long time to import the whole page, and there may be some slight discrepancies between the original text and the text that is being imported. (Importing pages may not be 100% accurate, always remember.)

I hope this guide was helpful for inexperienced users who are starting to import templates into their new wikis.

Due to a change we deployed, to login go to login.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:UserLogout, then delete your cookies, then go to login.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:UserLogin. If that does not work please let us know! Zppix (Meta | CVT Member | talk to me) 17:06, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

It's very unfortunate that, according to you, MediaWiki's format will only allow a fix like this. Many of us use Miraheze under the assumption that it is the most resourceful, useful way to create wikis, so if this fix is going to become a regular thing then consider yourself at a severe disadvantage. There are options beyond Miraheze that don't require unreliable cookie deletion for account logins. User:3b9tLibrarian2

It is important to note that this is the first time ever we've required this (Miraheze has been around for almost 5 years), and this wasn't the result of a regular deployment - it was the result of a miscalculated deployment by a member of our team who did not fully understand the consequences of such a change. It has been clarified that such a change in the future should only ever be done under certain circumstances - ones we never hope to find ourselves in, one we've never found ourselves in the past and one no organisation ever hopes to find themselves in. To assume this would be a "regular" thing, when it has only happened once in 5 years and is the first time ever is a severe overestimation. John (talk) 18:36, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
I am speaking of the present and future John, not the past 5 years. Once again, very unfortunate that your people have run into this issue. Perhaps I will have to find other options for my work, in places where apparent accidents haven't happened. Unless you have the means to fix this, of course. User:3b9tLibrarian2
If you know of an organisation which has never had an accident, I'd like to know of them too. In life, accidents happen - you are utilising a free service staffed entirely by volunteers - accidents are traditionally more likely to happen in such an environment but we pride ourselves on having the same level of response as that of organisations staffed by hundreds of paid full time staff members doing what our team of 6 do for free in our spare time. For reference - Google has accidents, Wikipedia (and Wikimedia, the developers of this software) have accidents, Microsoft have accidents. If Miraheze's model and volunteers are not to your liking, you are free to find another host which will either charge you for the same service or provide you less for free. John (talk) 19:44, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
I chose Miraheze for all the reasons you have provided, however, you would do well to first correct this accident, instead of taking immediate issue with my dissatisfaction. This is a serious login problem; please don't start justifying yourself or your colleagues until we are able to log into our accounts without trouble. Thank you. User:3b9tLibrarian2
I am not justifying anyone's actions at all. We have provided all necessary steps for people to follow and are providing support to users who contact us and provide us additional details to support them. As volunteers, we are trying our best. I am not taking issue with your dissatisfaction - I am replying to your comments. You are implying there are services out there that have never made any mistakes in deployments or taken the wrong course of action - which is not true. John (talk) 20:12, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
I am implying that there are services out there that have provided concrete resolutions to their mistakes in deployments or wrong courses of action; I never said 'never.' Will you be able to resolve this problem instead of requiring users to seek assistance whenever they attempt to login? User:3b9tLibrarian2
We have tried our best to resolve the problem without user-intervention, however, the software is not able to determine which encryption keys are used to encrypt the cookies and therefore we are not able to automate a solution without it affecting everyone all of the time. This is a limitation of the software we are not able to resolve and unfortunately requires user intervention to remove the cookies or wait until they expire. This isn't a reoccurring problem, users only need to delete their cookies once - there is no need to seek assistance except when the steps provided do not work. So far, all users who have followed the steps are able to login again and those who say the steps do not work, did not follow them correctly and we assisted them in more detail. John (talk) 20:32, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Much appreciate the clarification. Let's hope this solution is a lasting one. User:3b9tLibrarian2

Do I now have to oblige all my users to delete their cookies? That can not be true. I've never heard this from any other website. Unfortunately, I now have to consider saying goodbye to Miraheze. Is there really no other solution? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Klaas7 (talkcontribs)

This isnt a real fix. You can't ask your users to have to all delete their cookies to log into your website. It did work, but this is not how a site fixes its login issues. -FireKahuna

Technically, you only have to delete cookies relating to Miraheze, and unfortunately with the way MediaWiki does sessions this is the only fix, so I have no idea where you got "this is not how a site fixes its login issues from", especially because every website handles logins differently. It works! Magic! Anyway, you should change the instruction above. I guess many people only delete for meta.miraheze.org
Yes, technically it is only necessary to delete Miraheze-related cookies. However, in practice on the deliberately dumbed-down Android "smart" phone, your choice is do nothing and stay logged-out, or log out of every other service you ever logged into. I was able to find a third option by defining, and then removing, a special rule with the Forget Me Not add-on. It took 4 tries; to add insult to injury, the fourth try didn't warn me about hijacking but scolded me that I was already logged in.
This was an easily avoided botch, and users who say so ought not get a scolding to be "civil." Spıke (talk)16:45 13-Apr-2020

RhinosF1, can you please clarify who this comment is directed at? Cg098 (talk) 15:57, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

I followed the step and the success was only temporary. It worked fine on a desktop but not on my phone. The second time I regained access, I was only able to view and couldn't perform. I only got my identity back that was it. I repeatedly redone the steps and irrespective of how much I try going as far to delete all my cookies and chache, it no longer works. Will Miraheze ever revert back to its original state where it operated fine with cookies??? Because frankly I'm severely unsatisfied with this change and I'm definitely not alone on this.

Naturally. Cookies are files stored on your device to make it easier for Miraheze to figure out who you are whenever the device sends anything (a request for a page or the text of an edit). Deleting cookies and re-creating them by logging on will have to be done on each device. Preferences are stored at Miraheze, thankfully, and were not lost when you deleted the cookies! Spıke (talk)00:02 14-Apr-2020
Deleting the cookies for the wiki I was trying to log in to worked; I did not need to delete the other cookies you mentioned. --Zzo38 (talk) 06:30, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Ah don't worry, I found my wiki's old content. User:Multilingualtricker

Cant log in even after deleting cookies - Unbelievable. :(

This did work on my Chromebook but not on my phone. When I cleared the cookies on the latter, I still got the same error. However, I managed to solve this error by using Incognito mode. So if it doesn't work for you guys, use Incognito mode, unless it's blocked. -- Thank u, next, Eiji (talk) 01:16, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

I, Disintegrated.to.pieces, use Explorer on my computer and Samsung Internet on my phone so I don't know how to get back in AT ALL.

Do you know how to get on Incognito mode on Internet Explorer? - Thank u, next, Eiji (talk) 17:48, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Thank you Miraheze community. I was able to follow your instructions and have been able to log in to my FREE wikis. What an amazing community here. Solidarity, MarkDilley

Yes, I JUST did that and it's still not working. -Wage

Samsung internet

Gaining access to the menu (3 vertical dots in upper-right corner) and selecting Settings, I see:

 • Under Advanced, there is "Manage website data" and you can select various Miraheze sites you have visited. Delete is the only operation. I presume this deletes history and cookies.
 • Under Privacy, there is "Delete personal data". You can delete only cookies, but this would delete all cookies (logging you out everywhere!).

It's simple to download and install Firefox or Fennec on a phone so you don't have to use the built-in browser. Spıke (talk)20:45 17-Apr-2020

I think I got it

I got rid of the cookies and it still didn't work. I couldn't log out as I was already out. I tried a different browser and it works. This should work for now. Good luck folks.   :D   DMBFFF (talk) 06:29, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

Difficulties to use math extension

I have tried to active the math extension on my wiki but it does not seem to work. Latex formula on the main page seem to work properly, see for instance this page. But the same content cannot display correctly on my page here. Many thanks in advance.

Gamebm (talk) 03:46, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

It appears to be working correctly on both pages for me. It may have been that the extension needed a little bit of time before it started completely working on your Wiki. Elaeagnifolia (talk) 06:24, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

How to use templates, infoboxes, etc?

Hello, I am fairly new to Wiki editing beyond simple formatting and edits on the English Wikipedia, and have no experience with any sort of code or the like. I want to use Infoboxes on my wiki, but can't seem to find a coherent tutorial that describes how to do so. The wording of the only tutorial I found suggested that a package of standard MediaWiki templates should be installed on all Miraheze wikis by default, however, I can't seem to find any of those, or figure out how to use them. Any help would be appreciated! Greyboxing (talk) 05:26, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

The FAQ has a section regarding infoboxes that you can look over and see if it helps. Alternatively, I've also seen this infobox template recommended as it's a simplified version designed to work across Wikis with less nested dependencies and Lua modules imported to work. Since you mentioned you're fairly new to Wiki editing, I'd also recommend checking out the MediaWiki Help pages, and specifically since you're getting involved with infobox templates, then the page regarding templates might also be useful. Elaeagnifolia (talk) 06:16, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
Thank you so much! I'll look into all of these. Greyboxing (talk) 07:27, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Issues with popups and MediaViewer

A few days ago I noticed some issues occurring on my wiki, namely Popups, MediaViewer and Beta features in my preferences. For some reason my popups have just stopped worked even though they are turned on in the 'Styling' tab of 'Manage this wiki's additional settings.' The MediaViewer says 'Sorry, the file cannot be displayed. There seems to be a technical issue' etc. etc. And the Beta features tab in my preferences is empty. Can anyone shed some light as to why this may have happened? I use the popups extensively and so not having them any more is a little frustrating and my MediaWiever is just hit and miss. I am wondering if it has anything to do with not being able to display really large images (some are 2000+ x 4000+) in size. Borderman (Talk) 13:15, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

There is definitely something odd going on. Although popups (Page Previews) is installed and checked in ManageWiki it does not show up as an option to enable/disable in the Appearance tab in Preferences. I have double-checked and it has also done the same on my other wiki too. MediaViewer is having a hissy fit and most of my image don't work in it any more. Is there a bug somewhere or have some technically minded staff made some changes somewhere that are affecting certain extensions? Borderman (Talk) 23:47, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Skin set in Special:ManageWiki is only showing up to me and not visitors of the wiki

In my Wiki "Eld's Meta Universe Wiki", I changed the default skin in the Specials:ManageWiki page's styling tab. This updates the look of the wiki but only for me, visitors of the wiki get the default skin. This has been tested in Firefox, Chrome and Vivaldi browsers. The skin also doesn't show for me if I'm logged off. I have checked the skin in personal preferences and it's set to the same as the skin in Specials:ManageWiki without ability to change any setting there.

My wiki is disorganized

NOTICE THIS REQUEST HAS BEEN CANCELED. I ACTUALLY FOUND A NEW WAY TO DEAL WITH IT. THANKS! DONT DELETE ANY NAMESPACES THOUGH

This is going to be quite a long explanation. Hope you have a basic understanding of how NationStates works. So basically, in NationStates, I used to RP my own nation, the Crazybloxian Empire.

The wiki articles I wrote about it were very disorganized as I didn’t know how to do the categories right, I realized I had been writing articles in the wrong format, I realized I had been writing pages that weren’t encyclopedia style in mainspace, ones that should have been in other namespaces, and I also wrote this alone.

If you do your research, NationStates is divided into many groups called "regions". I moved to another region called the Commonwealth of Liberty, and now I intend to use my wiki to publish so-called "factbooks", but the old wiki is very disorganized, and using Special:Nuke hasn’t worked out for me, since most of the pages are a year old. I have done too much work importing the templates, and it’s a headache.

Additionally NationStates allows you to publish something called "dispatches" but they are very rudimentary and on every dispatch I made, I made sort of like a menu/type thing with links to go between dispatches, but they do not implement templates, so changing "menus" for HUNDREDS of "dispatches" can be very labor-intensive.

However on this MediaWiki software I can just make the "menu" a template and whenever I need to add a new link, just change the template.

Could I request mass deletion of ALL articles? Do not delete anything in the File, Storefront namespace, but DO delete everything in all other namespaces that I didn’t exempt. DO completely delete the Law, Executive Order and News namespaces (including talk namespaces), as they are clearly not needed.

The reason I am unable to do this myself is due to the fact that IRL I have time constraints, it’s not like I can spend 10 hours trying to delete stuff and organize my wiki. Thank you. Please respond to me, but do not do anything to my wiki yet until I have confirmed and gave you the greenlight to do so.

Thank you soo much. Also you should read the Wikipedia article about NationStates to actually get an understanding of the site. Bye!

Have a good day, wash your hands,

Sincerely, •• Fair0002 • Bureaucrat and Administrator of Crazybloxian Empire Wiki 03:53, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

languages

Hey. How can I infer the available languages?

I want to infer the available languages from the left. How it's done here on this wiki https://nonciclopedia.org/wiki/Pagina_principale

It's done by adding interwiki links at the bottom of the page, which is special links that only contain a language code, such as en: for english. Only stewards can create new interwiki links, tough, those not existing on the "table" won't work.--Wedhro (talk) 11:30, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Help with regex

Hi, I need to change the old markup used for images in my wiki because it's very outdated and not mobile-friendly. There's a ton of pages to edit and of course I need to automate it, too bad the only tool available is the MassEditRegex extension and I just can't wrap my head around the regex syntax; I used it multiple times for simple edits, but that's it.

What I need is to change any text matching to . Thanks in advance. --Wedhro (talk) 11:26, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

@Wedhro: Suggestions:
 • Use backslash liberally to escape characters so they aren't interpreted specially. I know you need one before each [ and one before each |.
 • Be aware that wildcards don't work as they do in DOS/Windows. Assuming that <anycharacter> above means any range of characters, . matches any character. So you want .* to match zero or more times, or .+ to match one or more times (to not match a null string there).
 • Putting parentheses around part of a regex makes it a substring. In JavaScript, the search will have properties that retrieve the substring that was matched, enabling you to write $1miniatura$2 to produce the desired replacement string.
 • Always test your regex in an operation targeting only one file! Spıke (talk)23:05 12-May-2020

Melanie Martinez Wikia

Since the anonymous cannot request wikis directly at the Request vault they must be done over here instead. For eight (or was it seven?) years singer Melanie Martinez’s wiki has been hosted by Fandom. That’s right eight or seven years. Here’s a page pulled from the wiki after the 2016 revamp, for example: 1.

Almost every page there at the bottom has a Comment Rule Box. If the site has gotten transferred to this hosting tree said rules will be above at the open box. If possible I think the wiki has reached its time to be moved from Fandom.

Unlike most of the 3K+ wikis a chock full are currently dormant from this hosting service that one will have the gates open to IP contributing and commenting. The rule box from the old wiki will be still placed above but simplified in its new home.

Upload own media wiki using FTP?

Hi

I've set up my own wiki using media wiki on a local host server and was looking to transfer as is to the Miraheze domain as a sub-domain for the time being whilst I free up my domain (unfortunately currently have website hosting with go daddy and they are really not very user friendly when it comes to hosting wikis, and also it is not for profit so paying for something that isn't meeting my needs is not my idea of a good use of money).

Can I just upload it with an FTP account on file zilla as is? I have a template page, an admin account with an associated email account and most importantly, I have MP3 uploads enabled as an extension and on my local settings file (crucial for my project). I also want to enable use of tables and I understand visual editor can make that easier which is great. If not, what can I do to help the process along?

Also, if I want to transfer my wiki from a subdomain to my custom domain once I can transfer my registration to a provider which is less of a pain in the ass do I just put in a request for a transfer or do I have to start it all up again?

@Kouchu19: I will assume that you have enabled the Wikibase Client and the Wikibase Repository. If so, go to Special:ManageWiki/settings#mw-section-edit in your wiki and uncheck the Enable Entity Search UI (Wikibase) option. That should make the search work. Let me know if it worked or not. Or it wasn't what you asked. Please note that it may take a few minutes to get ready. Hispano76 (talk) 02:14, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
@Kouchu19: Another suggestion, but you might also try disabling Extension:TitleKey. It caused search result issues on a Wiki I'm working on, so I disabled it and search results turned back to normal. Reading through the extension talk page and Phabricator, it seems this extension has caused issues with searching before, so it might be the same case here. --Elaeagnifolia (talk) 05:45, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Try the following:
 1. Clear all miraheze related cookies (every miraheze site you've visited will create cookies that need to be cleared),
 2. Visit Special:UserLogout,
 3. And then you should be able to log in again.

I see, but where do I find these so-called "cookies" since I've looked in the wikis I went into and I don't seem to figure out what it is I'm suppose to find and get rid of.

It is different for every browser, so I'd suggest just searching for "how do I clear cookies on <browser>" and swapping out <browser> for whatever browser you are using. -- Void Whispers 20:22, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

My wiki TV Censorship Wiki, when I set <main> talk to flow and save it, it goes back to wiki text. I have the flow extention enabled and I don't have this problem on my other wikis. Any help? I'm also having this problem with Astonishing Scratchers Wiki --Pacsonic9000 (talk) 13:38, 8 May 2020 (PST)

Also experiencing this issue on my Wikis, except for general namespace content model changes as well, not just Flow. I opened a Phabricator task here to hopefully get some eyes on it to see what the problem might be. --Elaeagnifolia (talk) 05:02, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
@Pacsonic9000:: Per the Phabricator issue, this should be resolved now. --Elaeagnifolia (talk) 02:10, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Detachment from other wikis

I found out that, if I browse any other wikis hosted by Miraheze with my account logged in, my account get attached to that wiki without my recognition and thus the record pops up in the Global account information page. I wish to have only my wiki and miraheze meta on that list. Is it possible to remove all the history I made in those other wikis? --M. Kim (talk) 19:28, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

While this is technically possible to do, it is almost never done as it can create glitches if you ever want to change your username, among other things. I have only ever seen this done for accounts that are severe violations of a local username policy, but not violations of any global policy, as this allows the account to be locally hidden from public view but still globally active. Note that even if detached, the local wiki will still show up on the global account information page for your username, albeit indicated as "not attached" in the attached date column. It does remove the account from the local wiki's Special:ListUsers page, but again, this is only done in rare circumstances. Amanda Catherine (talk) 20:29, 9 May 2020 (UTC
I understand. Thanks! --M. Kim (talk) 20:43, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
This annoys me too. You should become a user of a wiki when you edit the wiki. You ought to be able to peruse wikis without being tracked! Spıke (talk)21:11 9-May-2020
If you don’t want to have a local account created, use a private browsing mode which should log you out. The whole purpose of CentralAuth’s SUL2 is automatic account creation & login seamlessly on wikis. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 21:19, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
That's only possible when you already know that the site you're about to browse is a Miraheze-based wiki. Especially if the wiki is using its custom domain, you'll never know before you actually access the site. It is absurd to ask someone use a private browsing all the time so this unfortunate incident will happen unless you keep logging in and out whenever you want to edit your own wiki. --M. Asian/Far Eastern Wiki Requests

I'm not sure if we have any other users who speak one or more Asian or Far Eastern languages fluently besides @開拓者: (The Pioneer) and @Revi: (both of which do not appear to be super active right now), but as of writing there are several requests in the Wiki Requests Queue that are in Korean, Japanese, and I think one in Chinese that need to be serviced by someone who speaks the language. I don't trust machine translations when it comes to Eastern Characters because they have a notorious history of outputting world salad for that kind of stuff. Amanda Catherine (talk) 00:12, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

In Japan, English is not included in the official language, but within the scope of compulsory education in Japan, English is included in the content to be learned.Due to the age restriction of miraheze, it is not necessary to assume that preschoolers will have access.By the way, what is the meaning of "Far Eastern"?Where is my country far from?

I don't know where the center and the end are because the earth looks almost spherical. Would you please teach me where is the center and where is the end?-- (talk) 06:22, 4 May 2020 (UTC)fix.-- (talk) 06:59, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

@: w:Far East/w:zh:遠東/w:ja:極東 is a term used to describe East Asia, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia. I believe User:Amanda Catherine means CJK text in this context.

@Amanda Catherine: As I have put on my user page, my native language is Chinese, and I can understand most written Japanese in daily conversations. So I think I can help. I probably won't be able to help often, though. --Jack980517 (talk) 02:07, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Please do not take unnecessary offense! England, which invented English, has for a long time drawn maps of the world with England (usefully) at the center. "Far East" denotes those nations on the right edge of the map; "far" does not mean "extreme" in any other sense. I've seen identical maps in the United States, but with the United States (usefully) at the center. On these maps, Asia is the Far West. But "America" is the English term for the United States, and Latin America bristles at the supposed racism because they are parts of the Americas too. China's name in Chinese, I'm told, means "Middle Country," the same (useful) self-centeredness. Spıke (talk)02:19 5-May-2020
What I was taught as the only accurate world map was a map with the land and sea drawn on the surface of the ball. The straight line on the earth is essentially a curve, with two points where all meridians meet.It is extremely difficult to project such a figure on a plane so that it is continuous, maintains a size ratio, and maintains an angle. So, what I consider a planar map to be useful is a narrow map of a sufficiently short distance that a straight line can be considered a straight line. So, I thought of miraheze as a global community, so I felt uncomfortable with the expression "Far Eastern".--Posted by (talk) on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 06:45-- (talk) 07:43, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

@Amanda Catherine:It is probably possible to instruct a user who requests the wiki in Japanese to reissue the request in English. This will reduce the concern that there are few users who can understand Japanese.--Posted by (talk) on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 06:45-- (talk) 07:43, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
@: I agree entirely that there is no map that is planar and accurate and of the whole world. The rectangular map I describe above has huge inaccuracies; its purpose is to show where everything is relative to everything else, and Asia is in the "Far East." But my point was not to explain maps but to explain why such an expression is in English. Cheers! Spıke (talk)22:51 12-May-2020
@Spike: I have great respect and appreciation for your wealth of knowledge about the content of this discussion and for taking the time to share that knowledge. The examples you have provided are sufficient to make me understand that some parts of Asia are called "Far East" in English. The reason I talked about the ball and the map was because I wanted to explain why I got to the first statement, why I think the ball and tell the place.Thanks.-- (talk) 10:44, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Help with aligning

On the Cookie Clicker Wiki, I use a HTML div to align the infobox template to the right. However, it seems to cause article content to not show to the left of it. Any way to fix this? Daily5 (talk) 20:21, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

The problem was that the infobox was occupying the full width of the window. I do not know what's in your Infobox, but I went to your wiki and surrounded it with a DIV of my own. This specified a style of:
 • WIDTH: 25% so that it leaves room for other content, and
 • FLOAT: right. Alignment only concerns how the text aligns within the element; float specifies that the element hugs the right edge of the window and other content can "float" around it (to the left).
Feel free to revert my edit to your wiki, or take it further to meet your own needs. Spıke (talk)22:42 12-May-2020

Criteria for being automatically granted exemption from inactivity

Hello! I noticed while checking out our wiki's settings that the "Exempt from inactivity" box is enabled permanently. Now, I appreciate this because I feel like our community wiki is secure but I want to learn more about the criteria for granting this without us requesting for it. Is there any specific type of wikis that get automatic exemption? On what basis do wikis get exempted without the said wiki staff's request?

Merci. --Audoin (talk) 18:11, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

@Audoin: If you did not request it, an exemption should not be there. What is the URL of this wiki? Also, more details can be found at Dormancy Policy/Exemptions regarding the criteria. Reception123 (talk) (C) 09:07, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Interwiki links for myndmess.miraheze.org

Some troubles with infobox

Hello, I have a wiki frog.miraheze.org. I imported the infobox template and several additional templates to it. But I noticed that something was wrong. templates have no "borders" (they should be similar to tables). Also, they are not displayed on the right and some pictures are not displayed. Here is a page with an example: https://frog.miraheze.org/wiki/Frog_Archive

(Russian)
By the way, on some wikis under the heading it says "from [wikiname] ..." how can this be implemented on my wiki?

@Kwack: Make sure wherever you imported the infobox template from, that you also imported the CSS styling for those infoboxes, usually found in MediaWiki:Common.css.

Special:Badtitle

On the Homestar Runner Fanstuff Wiki 2, the project namespace is "HRFWiki2". If you enter a project talk page (such as HRFWiki2 talk:Wiki Stuff, which doesn't exist), the "Page" tab at the top appears red, and when clicked, goes to Special:Badtitle/NS3000:Wiki Stuff instead of HRFWiki2:Wiki Stuff. This is the case with all HRFWiki2 namespace pages. Additionally, "HRFWiki2 talk" shows up twice on Special:Search, under "Advanced", which I suspect is related to the problem. Another thing worth noting: on many HRFWiki2 namespace pages, the "Discussion" tab is blue, despite the talk page appearing to be nonexistent. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc (talk) 20:41, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
