- Boldy closing as SRE is already working on something similar in the form of tags which I feel addresses this. Agent Isai Talk to me! 04:19, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Proposed by Raidarr
Proposal summary: Expand and deepen the selection of categories that a Miraheze wiki can use upon or after creation
Full proposal: Per discussion that was raised briefly in the last Miraheze Meeting, there would be merit in a) reviewing the current options of wiki subject categories and then b) adding subcategories to them for specificity. The top level would merely indicate the overall scope of the wiki (ie, community or encyclopedia), while the subcategory would define by the wiki's format (a song contest wiki), ideally based on known and currently used flavors. In principle this would be a two-level structure (a general one and then options for being specific in that layout), but I admit more thought is needed as far as the exact options that would be offered. At least, all current ones being compatible + additional options. An ancillary thought to this would be the temporary appointment or election of users who can review the category selection of uncategorized public wikis and sort them into the newly defined lineup, to further the benefits that a revised category structure can offer to WikiDiscover sorting along with the 'profiles' of the wikis at a glance. This strictly pertains to the category field that is selected in wiki request forms or ManageWiki, and in no way would change the substance of the wiki nor would deliberate choices by local administrators/founders be made invalid or different (ie, a subcategory under this thinking would not be required).
Support[edit | edit source]
- Support We should have this already. This will help requesters to define the scope of the wiki, and perhaps fewer wikis will be declined. --YellowFrogger • (Talk — ✐) 17:56, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

Discussion[edit | edit source]
- I think that this is a good idea, since some wikis are in categories that don't fit them because no category exists for that type of wiki (for example, the "Literature/Writing" category is full of worldbuilding wikis). Tali64³ (talk) 03:14, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
Saludos cordiales. /// I agree with improving the ranking of wikis. But, I think that we should first present a list of categories (or several if other users contribute more ideas), talk about them, and finally, if there is no total agreement, put those category lists to a vote.
