- No consensus within SRE at the moment to implement this. As one SRE member stated, they'd rather see CentralNotices refined at a user-level. As such, declined, apologies!
Proposed by K599
Proposal summary: Give people an option in ManageWiki to opt out wikis from certain types of central notices, being those that are defined from campaign types, instead of only having an "all or nothing" setting.
Full proposal: There are campaign types that are configured with $wgCentralNoticeCampaignTypes in LocalSettings.php. This is what allows for central notices to be assigned a type when being set up. Individual users can then opt-out of certain types by going to their user preferences. This proposal asks to implement a setting in ManageWiki to be able to do a similar action for a whole wiki. Currently, ManageWiki only has a setting for opting out of all central notices.
Additional suggestions related to what is being proposed here can be found in this community noticeboard discussion. One such suggestion is to add some text consisting of instructions to central notices so that people can more easily figure out how to use this opt-out feature.
- Steward Comment: Following this request and clarification from K599 at Talk:Community Wishlist for 2022/Add the ability to use ManageWiki to opt out wikis from certain types of central notices, I've reopened this request, as K599 is just looking to add the given variable to ManageWiki. This could also just be requested on Phabricator, but nevertheless, it's reasonable for it to be requested here. Note, though, that the actual CentralNotice campaign types would still need to be requested from Stewards at Stewards' noticeboard. Also, with note to MacFan4000's comment, this proposal would still need to be reviewed by SRE to see if it is feasible from a mainly technical perspective. Dmehus (talk) 23:05, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

- Support Even with the Steward Comment: above. If you can disable certain CNotices on wikis for all users (even with preferences). Sometimes CNotice can be a nuisance. --YellowFrogger • (Talk — ✐) 23:10, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

Discussion[edit | edit source]
Unless we create a new extension, this isn’t something SRE can do, since the CentralNotice extension isn’t controlled by Miraheze. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 21:58, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
- I'm just going to say that there is a suggestion for how to implement this within this community noticeboard discussion. Of course, I'm aware that it's up to sysadmins on whether it's feasible to try to implement this feature. K599 (talk) 00:30, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
