Uncyclopedia 2[edit source]

SO what is going on with this 'Uncyclopedia 2' project from @Psl631:? I have blocked him from Uncyclopedia (wikia hosted) for a week for ignoring my request not to spam another website - Uncyclopedia 2. --Romartus (talk) 22:21, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

To update my own post. I see this article (as edited here - https://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Florence_Nightingale?action=history) appears on Uncyclopedia 2 (here https://uncyclopedia2.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=Florence_Nightingale&action=history) with only one previous edit - from a bot. So all the previous article's history and contributors have been removed. I presume therefore this is going to happen to ALL articles imported - either from the Uncyclopedia hosted at Wikia or Uncyclopedia hosted independently? You know that's not on. --Romartus (talk) 13:17, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
This is new information to me. Until that user had imported those hundreds of pages, the wiki appeared to be complying with copyright requirements, but now, due to the user's imports, it is not. I was also under the impression that Psl631 did not want to copy the contents of existing Uncyclopedias outside of setting up the basic framework (policies, templates, etc) needed to get the wiki working. I'll be keeping my eye on this as it develops. -- Void Whispers 13:34, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
I did not copy from the wikia uncyclopedia, I created pages from own work with some content copied from en.uncyclopedia, the Uncyclopedia.co wiki. --Psl631 (Let's Chat!) 13:37, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
I am aware of that, but @Kink lewis: imported over 3000 pages from the Uncyclopedia on wikia. -- Void Whispers 13:46, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
In that case, I request those 3,000 pages are removed if sourced from Wikia hosted Uncyclopedia. How it should have been was for writers wanting to submit articles to Uncyclopedia 2 but only if the article was their sole effort or they had the agreement of ALL the other editors at Uncyclopedia (wikia). For the purposes of illustration, this was the arrangement made between Uncyclopedia (wikia) and Uncyclopedia.co back in 2013. --Romartus (talk) 14:04, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
I have gone through the uploads. All seem to originate from Uncyclopedia (Wikia). I request 'King Lewis' account is blocked until we can resolve this. --Romartus (talk) 15:06, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Is it OK that I can block "King lewis" account indefinitely and remove him from the "admin" group on the uncyclopedia 2.0? --Psl631 (Let's Chat!) 15:41, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── That may be a good idea. Should I setup a tool to delete all the imported pages? -- Void Whispers 16:00, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

I removed his permissions, and should I block him also? --Psl631 (Let's Chat!) 16:16, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks guys for addressing this important issue. As I said, I have no objection to an Uncyclopedia 2 as such but not this way of filling up the wiki with articles. --Romartus (talk) 21:35, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
I have a script running now that's deleting the articles. -- Void Whispers 22:26, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks! --Romartus (talk) 00:48, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
I have blocked King Lewis FYI.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 06:20, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

getting nav boxes to work[edit source]

I noticed you weren't able to get navboxes fully implemented.

if you go to Wikipedia and grab all the code at this page MediaWiki:Common.css and paste it in yours it should start to function better.... navbox use casscadeing style sheet code to get things up and running.Joel.e.Martin (talk) 02:26, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Questions about names and deleted wikis[edit source]

Hello! I have 2 questions for you. Question1 Is it admissible to create a wiki with the name of a deleted wiki (I was admin)? Question2 I know the conditions and rules of deletion for a wiki, but can some data be retrieved eventually? Is there any chances (eventually) ? Question3 Will it be a premium feature one day, where you pay, and can keep a small, inactive wiki for a longer period?

Thank you! --PERCE-NEIGE (talk) 14:04, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Do you know when your wiki was deleted? If it was recent, there is a better chance of recovery. There is no reason you can't create a new wiki under the name of a deleted wiki (that's part of the reason we delete inactive wikis after all). It is currently possible to exempt wikis from the Dormancy Policy, provided they fulfill certain criteria. -- Void Whispers 16:17, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the quick reply. So, I will recreate it, but I doubt it qualifies for dormancy exemption, except if there's a way to have a premium.

Is it possible to have an exemption if I pay? I know your site is meant to be free, but I love your service, and my wiki may be inactive for a while, depending on my workload or burden of family.

To be able to recreate my wiki easily if something happens, is there a way to automatically backup it on a cloud service and on a personal hosted site (but that is not a wiki). I'm very novice, but I could try to learn if needed. I will ask you to recreate Cogitopédie, with a private part, and a public part (that I hope will be useful). Is it possible? — Preceding unsigned comment added by PERCE-NEIGE (talkcontribs) and my last question: do you know how someone can use the extension called whitelist? Maybe there's better alternative for an hybrid private-public wiki?

@PERCE-NEIGE: Hello, you do not need to pay for an exemption. If you have a good reason (such as it can be used to be read or that you have to leave but you will return) it is perfectly fine for you to request an exemption. And no, we do not have that extension but it should be possible to do something from Special:ManageWikiPermissions. Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:21, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you!

The problem is that I don't have any "good" reasons, except my private & professional life, so, I think the best thing for me would be to find a way to backup the site. Do you know how I could backup automatically to a private place from my hosting provider?

So, could you recreate the wiki please for me, I will try to use the special page, but I don't know if I can make 2 categories of pages. One which I own all the rights, and one readable but not editable, by anyone on the Internet. I'd like to categorize pages like this.

Other question: What are the mediawiki extensions that are activable on a Miraheze wiki? EDIT: I see now the list of extensions that can be activated from my wiki. This question is closed. I' still seaching answers to the way to have private and public pages, and to be able to do automatic backups.

Quick question about storage[edit source]

Is there a max number of files that wiki can host? I read somewhere that the number of images is pegged for 10mb Artix Kreiger (talk) 04:59, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

@Artix Kreiger: That is incorrect, we do not have a limitation for the number of files that a wiki can host currently. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:34, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
10mb isn't the max size for one image, like on some other wikis?

someone joined my wiki[edit source]

Why did you join my wiki? LegoMaster (talk - contribs - logs - uploads - global contribs) 11:19, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

I've probably just visited the site, although, at this point, I've no idea why. Why do you ask? -- Void Whispers 17:12, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
But we cannot let users randomly view and join and then vandalize our wiki LegoMaster (talk - contribs - logs - uploads - global contribs) 10:05, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
Just because somebody created an account on your wiki doesn’t mean that they are going to vandalize it. Also because it’s Public, anybody can view it weather they have an account or not. MacFan4000 (Talk Contribs) 11:46, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

Vandal[edit source]

Hi, Void. Could you block this I.P. address:213.205.242.234. They continuously keep on vandalizing my user talk page by either blanking it or just putting rude or vulgar words. Thank you! Check my view history! LadyParanormal (talk) 02:00, 9 March 2019 (UTC) Thanks, Void! LadyParanormal (talk) 02:06, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks again! It appears that they have created an account to use it if their I.P. address gets blocked. Keep up your great work! LadyParanormal (talk) 02:21, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Usermerge[edit source]

Hello Void, I would like to merge with the User:Farra13 account because I lost my email from this account as well as the password and I can not access any account here. Glaubisvânia (talk) 05:23, 9 March 2019 (UTC)#

@Glaubisvânia: Hello! You could just re-create a new account and make a new email address. Gmail is free to use! Just copy-paste your info on your user page and when you have a new user page, paste your info there. LadyParanormal (talk) 05:32, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, unfortunately, unless you can prove your identity, we cannot merge the accounts together. You will have to start over, but you can gain administrative access to your public wikis again, provided you do take care of them. Since there does not appear to be a lot of content on your private wiki, I presume this wouldn't be a terrible loss? -- Void Whispers 17:38, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

RFC edits[edit source]

Hello, Void! I have reverted User:Amanda's edits on Requests for Comment/Allow exception to LP ban. One: She's a sock. Two: She's blocked. Three: She is not an admin. LadyParanormal (talk) 06:36, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Regarding that edit, please see your talk page. Reception123 (talk) (C) 07:23, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Wikirunning request[edit source]

Hi Void! I recently submitted two requests for new Wikis, namely Wikirunning and Wikirunner. Wikirunner was submitted by mistake; I would like for just Wikirunning to be created. I intend to create a high-quality Wiki encylopedia about runners, running events, coaches, etc. with expanded notability guidelines. Once it starts getting big enough, I would prefer it to have its own domain name at wikirunning.org. Thanks. Runnerpedia (talk) 15:41, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

It's been handled! Cheers -- Void Whispers 17:39, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks! I'd like to learn more about how to import templates into my new wiki. As an initial test, I've imported XML dumps of 11 articles from the English Wikipedia (example: https://wikirunning.miraheze.org/wiki/On%C3%A8sphore_Nkunzimana ). So far so good, but many template boxes such as "Infobox person" didn't show up, even though I made sure to export the templates. TME has some good articles with no or few broken templates, and I wonder how they did it. Where should I start? Runnerpedia (talk) 18:43, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
Additionally, I'd like to:
  1. Rename my Wikirunning wiki to WikiKimbia (Kimbia means "running" in Swahili) in order to focus just on runners from the African continent, since Wikirunning is potentially too broad for a relatively new project like Miraheze (we'd have to import up to tens of thousands of articles from Wikipedia to comprehensively cover running on my new wiki). Alternatively, we can just delete Wikirunning and start up WikiKimbia from scratch
  2. Import all of the articles from English Wikipedia's Category:Kenyan long-distance runners if possible, to give this Wiki a good start and attract editors from the competitive running community, which I'm well connected with. Let me know if this is OK with you. I'll be happy to let the System Admins do this so that I don't screw things up, since I'm new to Miraheze. Runnerpedia (talk) 18:52, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
Hey, sorry for taking so long to respond, I've been busy with other things. If you really want Wiki Running deleted, please confirm here, so I can make sure that gets done. For number two, it would be the same as importing the templates, and there shouldn't be any reason we need to handle it. -- Void Whispers 18:36, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
Not a problem. I think I'll keep Wikirunning on Miraheze for now, but I won't add many more articles to be respectful of your servers and disk space. What's the maximum limit on the number of articles that users can import from Wikipedia by the way? Runnerpedia (talk) 22:15, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Request[edit source]

Hello, Void! Could you change my user rights to admin, steward and wiki creator? LadyParanormal (talk) 17:12, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Request for deletion of my article[edit source]

Can you take this page I made down, because people are reviving it when I’m done with this article and feel like deleting it. https://toxicfandomsandhatedoms.miraheze.org/wiki/Eddsworld_Fandom Nobody can delete it though, so you’ll have to do it — Preceding unsigned comment added by Knep (talkcontribs)

@Knep: As I am not a steward so I will not comment on the issue itself, but you shouldn't be claiming "Void is taking this down" on the page, unless he told you so. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:56, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Weird[edit source]

It is good, but why did you add autopatrolled rights to me LegoMaster (talk - contribs - logs - uploads - global contribs) 23:40, 20 March 2019 (UTC)

Read - Edit[edit source]

Thank you Void for your answer to my question on the Community Noticeb. regarding steps for my Wiki not being editable but readable by anyone. I followed your instructions but still other people than myself can edit any page. It seems there is just the option between a private Wiki (editorial + reading restrictions) and a public one (no editorial or reading restrictions). Is that the case? Or is a mixture possible, I would like the setting of: editorial restriction + no restriciton as to readability for anyone. Appreciate your assistance.
