Welcome to Miraheze[edit source]

Hello, Reception123, and welcome to Miraheze! Miraheze is a free, non-for-profit wiki hosting service. If you would like to start a wiki please fill in this form or, if you'd like to contribute to an existing wiki, please see a few wikis here or the full list of wikis here. Note that (private) wikis aren't accessible unless you are given access, and closed wikis cannot be edited.

For more information, please see our FAQ. If you have any additional questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact us.

You are encouraged to create your user page, whether here on Meta (visible only when on Meta), or your global user page that visible on any Miraheze wiki where a user does not have a local user page and provided that the wiki has the GlobalUserPage extension enabled and, additionally, where the wiki is not using the SocialProfile extension. Should you decide to create your global user page on Loginwiki and wish for it to replace your Meta user page, simply add the {{delete}} template to the top of your Meta user page by copying and pasting this code ({{Delete|1=Author requests deletion, or author blanked.}}), and an administrator should delete it promptly (usually within 24 hours).

If you have any questions, after first reviewing FAQ and the help center, please don't hesitate to ask at the community noticeboard, but please be sure to end all new topics or replies you make on talk pages, user talk pages (like this one), and noticeboards with four tildes (~~~~) to include both (a) a username and (b) a properly formatted timestamp for our talk page archiving bot.

Thanks,

@Dmehus: As one of the first users to register on Meta in August 2015 and with more than 8000 global edits, I thank you very much for this slightly late welcome note :P Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:32, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
@Reception123: (edit conflict) This was obviously just a test, but I thought it would be easier to test my revamped {{welcome}} template on your user talk page, in order to get any feedback you might have, or to obtain your "thumbs up/LGTM" stamp of approval (as opposed to testing it in Meta:Sandbox). I revamped it in a major way, to include a section header, add much-needed substitution of magic words, add information on global user pages, add an automatic signature, and add documentation to the template. What do you think? Dmehus (talk) 17:33, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
@Dmehus: I agree, it's better than the previous one. Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:38, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
@Reception123: Okay, great, thanks! :) Dmehus (talk) 18:36, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Unanswered requests[edit source]

Sorry to bother you but it's been a few days since I posted these requests and I still have no answer.--Wedhro (talk) 15:04, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

@Wedhro: While user merges can be done, they generally have to be done locally and manually by a steward as global user merges aren't scalable. So, what would be the reason for needing to merge? If the user wishes to transfer his or her credentials, they can simply either ask local bureaucrats to remove the rights on the old accounts and add rights on the new account. Where the local bureaucrats are inactive after a considerable period of time, a steward can be dispatched to the local wiki to assess the local permissions change request in the absent bureaucrats' stead. (talk page stalker) Dmehus (talk) 15:55, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
@Dmehus: This is not news, I've already asked and obtained user merges at lest 20 times after we moved our wiki from Fandom and stewards told me it was the only way for users to get back their old accounts. (I'm the local bureaucrat anyway) This is my first of many requests. --Wedhro (talk) 04:52, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

Request for Real Life Villains Miraheze[edit source]

Hi. I am a bureaucrat for Real Life Villains Wikia, and I was wondering if the Category Gallery extension could be added to our wikia. I don't know a single thing about computer programming so I can't do it myself; when I tried I got confused really quickly. - Rangerkid51 01:51, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

No, its got to go through security review first, see T6334 Zppix (Meta | CVT Member | talk to me) 02:13, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
@Rangerkid51: Welcome to Meta, and to Miraheze. If you have any further questions, we invite you to our Discord server or to the community noticeboard. (Please sign your posts on talk pages by using four tildes like this: ~~~~.). Dmehus (talk) 02:17, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Importing the Harry Potter Wiki[edit source]

Hello, I am a disgruntled user from the Harrypotter.fandom.com site. I am requesting if you, as system admin, could import the entire site fromt here to here. All pages and images there. In addition, I'm talking to the Reddit mods if they can support it as well. Thank you.

Losira (talk) 18:00, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

@Losira:, thank you for your question, and thank you for creating an account. Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, and that posting in multiple locations does not expedite your request. Instead, please file a Phabricator task, after clicking "MediaWiki login" and linking your account to your wiki account. Assign it to the MediaWiki project, then you can move it on the workboard to "Maintenance script run," and it'll be completed, usually, within 24-36 hours. Hope this helps. Dmehus (talk) 18:13, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
hi @Dmehus:, I have created this but I dunno how to assign to Maintenance script run. Losira (talk) 21:17, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
@Losira: Thanks for your reply. In the "Add action" box, you just need to select "Change project tags," typing "MediaWiki," and then select "Move on workboard" and select "Maintenance script run." I have done this for you this time, though, so not a problem. What the system administrators will need is for you to export an XML dump from Fandom. To do this, you need to be a bureaucrat on the wiki, which I assume you are, then go to Special:Statistics, and "request dump." This will generate an XML file for you to upload to the Phabricator ticket. You then need to manually download every image on your wiki, zip them up, and upload the zip file to the Phabricator ticket. Once that's in place, a system administrator will process it for you.
