Template documentation[edit source]

Hi Doug, I have implemented a template documentation in the publictestwiki for demonstration purposes. To these two templates I have added the documention Template:RfP/boilerplate Template:Draft-section so you can see how it looks like. If you think this is useful I (or anyone else) can copy the template and the associated module to other Miraheze wikis. I have translated the text that is displayed in the template pages but not all the comments in the module, a native speaker may improve the translation. Before I spend a lot of time for translating the German comments to English I will make sure that this feature is wanted on Miraheze, if not I will save my time ;-) Lily (Manuela) (Lilypond Wiki · talk and I will listen · my little garden ) 17:18, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit source]

What are the requirements for adopting a wiki? Musicismylife (talk) 06:55, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There's no set requirements, other than the wiki (a) must be closed per Dormancy Policy and (b) generally should not be manually-closed (some exceptions apply here). From there, Stewards will assess quantitatively and qualitatively your contribution(s) over the following week(s), typically, to assess your commitment level to the wiki. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 03:54, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yo:[edit source]

How have you been all day today? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 01:04, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, thanks. Dmehus (talk) 03:51, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please help me[edit source]

How do I cancel my username change request? Musicismylife (talk) 01:10, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Musicismylife Yes check.svg Cancelled per your request. Additionally, I'd note you were just globally renamed a month ago here. Global renames are intended to be done seldomly. As a recommended best practice, it's usually good to leave your username the same for at least 12, and ideally 24, months, absent very compelling reasons to change sooner. For what it's worth, I like your current username. :) Dmehus (talk) 18:07, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You told me to remind you this:[edit source]

Yes, as you can see from the header section, you told me to remind you to look into Commagate and Cmon, as there is a lot of behavioral evidence from this particular blog post warning other users about Larryding, thus these comments from both of them, and even an additional comment from an additional sock account. Now tell me, doesn't this seem to be over the top suspicious for them to come to that blog post using socks to deny or argue in that same post? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 21:37, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I don't know that the user is Larryding, but there does seem to be a connection to Commagate and Cmon. Dmehus (talk) 22:23, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But please do tell me what you find when you're done investigating. :) DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 22:46, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, so Bakerbeat5 had no relation at all? That's strange. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 22:55, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not even sure you're correct in thinking that the users I Yes check.svg locked are Larryding. I think they are just run of the mill disruptive sockpuppets. Dmehus (talk) 22:59, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So I'm going to guess that Bakerbeat5 isn't related to Commagate and Cmon, right? If not, then perhaps a different master? But then again, I thank you for locking those 2 along with any additional accounts they had floating around. :) DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:01, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's correct. It's possible the user is a sockpuppet of a different master, but unless you can provide me with compelling diffs showing a likely target, we won't know that. :) Dmehus (talk) 23:02, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus Meanwhile, I've noticed 2 spambots that came to my iammagnetomasterofmagnetwiki within 2 weeks of each other, like LoganIaf63045 and ESSElinor3002, along with multiple series of spambots that I reported on the Stewards' Noticeboard previously. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:27, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus Found a potential target that could very well be connected to Bakerbeat5: Lastflash. Lastflash has asked DeciduousWater534 in such a strange fashion. Not to mention this user, Bakerbeat5 has replied on Commagate's talk page saying something similar, asking people to put random characters on the wiki. Don't you think that sounds familiar? Wiki request[edit source]

Can you help me create x-men of Iron Sword 23 (talk) 22:50, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Warning fake accounts[edit source]

Can you explain what these accounts are created every day, with random person names on Podpedia (none of the accounts edit, they are just created for nothing) This is not the own site owner creating fake accounts, as the same happens on the AllTheTropes wiki (because it of having many users). And this also happened on a wiki I use. The difference is that they always put "your real name" as seen on their user pages with the SocialProfile extension. YellowFrogger (talk) 02:07, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "fake accounts," but they look like either spam only accounts or spam only accounts in incubation that have yet to edit or otherwise attempt to spam. They'll likely be caught up in regular Steward-conducted spambot sweeps, so not to worry. That being said, perhaps that wiki could be suggested to disable their new user welcome extension that greets new users including spam only accounts. Dmehus (talk) 02:12, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You can safely ignore those, they're just spambots, they're everywhere. Just check that wikis Abuse Log, you'll see a ton of those bots have tried to create spam pages on the wikis and have failed because the Abuse Filter caught them. Until Miraheze can implement ReCaptcha v3, there's not much one can do. Agent Isai Talk to me! 02:10, 12 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit source]

How do I add comments to a wiki? Musicismylife (talk) 21:08, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure you can, honestly. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 21:37, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you mean adding the plugin as the local administrator, there are several options in your ManageWiki settings. A wiki you're not admin on depends on the local situation, using the local plugin or the talk page. It's unclear exactly what you mean and I imagine Dmehus would think similarly, so I wonder which sense you mean, or if there's a wiki where they aren't working properly for you. --Raidarr (talk) 21:44, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unfairly blocked from Qualitipedia again[edit source]

I have been unfairly blocked from Qualitipedia again. I posted a message on Steward's noticeboard but since it has been ignored, basically I was banned for making a suggestion to add proposals on Qualitipedia, since I know that you said you wanted consensus on Qualitipedia rather than having all decisions made by a small group of bureaucrats. However, they rejected it and I ended up falsely blocked for "causing drama" when that is not true. And to add insult to injury, MarioMario456 and DuchessTheSponge made a personal attack blog against me on Crappy Games Wiki which is filled with false information and old drama which has since been resolved. Also, the comments section of the blog is filled with personal attacks against me, with people calling me names. They even accused me of being an “anti-profanity SJW” when I am not an SJW and I am fine with profanity, within reason of course. Also they said I wasn't there to contribute which is completely false since I did not go to Qualitipedia to cause drama, I did not want to cause drama, I simply wanted to contribute. The main problem is that I was blocked on the show wikis, which are the wikis I usually contributed to. So I think it is safe to say that MarioMario456 and DuchessTheSponge should receive a warning for abuse of power, I should be unblocked on EVERY wiki I am blocked on, and the personal attack blog should be deleted, since this has gone far beyond a reasonable discussion with Mario and Duchess. Furthermore, Mario and Duchess both act like they own the wiki when like you said, nobody owns the wiki. They have blocked me for things that are not even against the policy listed on the main page of every Qualitipedia wiki, and personal attack blogs are against the rules on Crappy Games Wiki. This needs to be resolved soon because I need to clear my name and get back to peacefully editing. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 16:26, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dmehus: Please help me, you are my only hope. I am being defamed, blocked, harassed, and attacked for no reason. Mario and Duchess are continuing to paint me as this force of evil. You are the only person who can help me clear my name. I need to be back on the reception wikis but I unfortunately cannot contribute to a place where everyone hates me and two of the admins are out to get me. And I can't even explain my innocence since Duchess and Mario are everywhere and I am just blocked anyway. The blog post I mentioned is spreading lies about me. Please listen to me and trust me, you are my only hope. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 18:38, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So, you're back eh?[edit source]

I've been concerned where you've been for the past few days, but it's good to see you once again. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 17:44, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back Dmehus. DuchessTheSponge (talk) 17:54, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
DuchessTheSponge Of course he's back, but he still has some things to take care of on the Stewards' Noticeboard, like a couple of CheckUser requests to respond to with either a decline or with action taken. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:10, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. DuchessTheSponge (talk) 21:30, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Now that you're back...[edit source]

Is it time to give MarioMario456 his rights on the Horrible Music and Songs Wiki? I mean, the election has turned out successful and the wiki has became a mess so I felt like it's time for you to promote him. DuchessTheSponge (talk) 19:05, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It turns out even with moderation enabled, it's still turning into a serious mess. DuchessTheSponge (talk) 19:11, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening[edit source]

Can you help me with a wiki request? Iron Sword 23 (talk) 22:40, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding.... ugh.[edit source]

So I saw you archive my discussion on SN, and I also read your note. The reason this requires Stewards' attention is because I'm banned from QP and I figured you guys are the only ones who can get to QP's moderation team. Because you guys are in charge of Miraheze, and control everything on it (not exactly, but you get the point). I need your guys' help. You may as well be the only ones who can enforce their actions being wrong.

I want the community to understand my criticisms and just listen and understand my viewpoints. I don't want them throwing 'em away or discarding them without even setting up a proper discussion or even explaining why — all my past attempts, it seemed like they didn't want to be criticized, as if criticism towards the wikis hurts their feelings, as if they were upset because I was criticizing them. And I certainly don't want people to live in ignorance, regarding things such as the quality of the Lion King sequels.

I was wrong for creating the Cuties threat in the first place, yes. I was wrong for being immature, yes. But all I wanted for them is to listen to me, and see where I'm coming from. FreezingTNT (talk) 23:44, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's worth reiterating that the Stewards are incredibly reluctant to enter and overhaul local decision making, especially when a local system is already in the process of overhauling itself. As critical as I have been, MarioMario456 in particular has taken steps to address some root problems, which complicates a blanket narrative against their willingness to improve (though, I can't say the same attitude is shared with every admin there, one of which is very offended by criticism and still in power). For my part on Discord mainly, I have attempted to stave off narrow 'he wanted to put Cuties on the good wiki!' with a broader look at what you were trying to do, in spite of it being poorly done. At this point, it's unlikely the Stewards will simply break in and act on your behalf.
As Dmehus mentioned however, the ideal here is probably to splinter to an independent project. That might have been the New Reception Wiki, but as I have noted it is administratively dominated by the QP leadership figures. So, a new new wiki would be necessary, and there *is* a niche for a qualitative wiki. If you want to collaborate with others in realizing that, it can't hurt to try if you really find the QP wikis irredeemable. For my part I think they have a chance. I could dust off a languishing side project and turn it into a meta discussion type wiki with full independence, so it can be used to iron out these details of an ideal format and keep the drama and the scenario off Meta unless it is strictly required. And for the record, I imagine a blog post on the relevant wiki would suffice in giving a full impression of the Lion King sequels. The article can perhaps document strict reception, and reviews can be presented alongside it so people can get an audience reaction, and then see in-depth input for themselves. Frankly I don't think it's the biggest problem in the world for people to understand why a particular set of Sequels is bad. If it is necessary, there are options. So let us consider them, but at this juncture, probably on a more local talk page (yours or mine) until/unless the alternative wiki is put to use to have this conversation natively. --Raidarr (talk) 11:14, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'll summon the QP mods (@MarioMario456:, @DarkMatterMan4500:, @DeciduousWater534: and @DuchessTheSponge:) right here, and see what they think (in regards to all of this).

And in response to some of your pointers...

"For my part on Discord mainly, I have attempted to stave off narrow 'he wanted to put Cuties on the good wiki!' with a broader look at what you were trying to do, in spite of it being poorly done." Where can I find that? I just joined the QP Discord and can't find it myself. And what was the response from the others?

Regarding creating a new wiki from scratch. In my pile of criticisms in the other thread, I pointed out that there'd be backlash from defenders/fanboys of various media such as The Last Jedi and that even if they do explain why that specific article is wrong then the mods won't take those specific bad qualities down because it's apparently what the general public believes regardless of minority opinions. Alongside my other criticisms here. The reason I also chose QP as the place to lay down my criticisms for the Lion King sequels is because it has a huge (well, not that huge) community, especially for a series of wikis that point out the good and the bad, and a decent amount of people do know about the existence of QP, so I figured more people would acknowledge my perspective if I put my criticisms onto something a decent amount of people had a connection to and history with — it's not like I'm gonna magically create a super-popular YouTube channel and create review videos for the films and magically get all 7 billion people on the planet to watch them within a single hour, which would be literally and logically impossible and time-consuming!

"And for the record, I imagine a blog post on the relevant wiki would suffice in giving a full impression of the Lion King sequels. The article can perhaps document strict reception, and reviews can be presented alongside it so people can get an audience reaction, and then see in-depth input for themselves." ??? (As in, I don't really get what you're trying to say regarding specific parts...) When they were originally on the Awful Movies Wiki, before they were deleted and put onto the Greatest Movies Wiki, I believe (I'm not sure if this is accurate) the articles did list the receptions (both movies were loved by audiences), and the Simba's Pride article listed videos from those criticizing the movie. The bad qualities for both articles mostly listed criticisms I've come across on the Internet myself that I generally agreed with; they are indeed opinions (the existence of plot holes, contrivances and other things based on what actually happens in the movie aren't, however; I'm specifically talking about whether it is a good or bad thing), but you can argue the same about any other review in existence, and that's literally the point — while art is subjective, there's things or annoyances (in terms of, for example, the characters' behavior such as being annoying or irritating) or imperfections that would make it more likely people would criticize the work in particular (I mention something similar in the original thread).

FreezingTNT (talk) 19:19, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So in regards to expanding the topic I'll make a suggestion; if we are to expand this in a full and largely locally relevant discussion, then I would consider the second part of my point in recommending a non-meta outlet to resolve the issues and leaving Steward intervention to a 'strictly necessary' basis - even if it is an independently controlled wiki, be it my alpha project or some other, or even a discord area with far less chance for moderation kneejerks. It may not be on QP proper, but 'it' should be a related place to iron out a proper and actionable case. If it stays on Meta and especially on a Steward's talk page, then the contents should be very topical; be they the concerns with reasonable speech/consensus having a chance to form, or potential content policy violations, or something with noted steward intervention, ie, Void's comment here. This is why I suggest an alternative platform, even if QP itself may not want to humor the conversation (although if it doesn't, that may be something for global staff to take a look at). As for overall attitude (ie, overall receptions), even if there are plot holes and poor elements to a written story, it seems to be QP's desire to put article locations into a 'sum' of three pillars - unprofessional but audienced reviewers, critical reviews and user reviews, with rare exception if say, two out of three overwhelm the one (as in the cause with Cuties) and vaguely in that order unless an exception is necessary. It's not a well documented policy, but that is how they address it; if this is poor, should be changed, etc is something that should be a local discussion, or at least in a suitably close area. For the record, if you want to tell the world what you think of a particular thing and why out of audience, it seems like a dedicated blog (and even going past Miraheze since Reception Wikis are not the best you can do if you're particularly good) would be the avenue to push for. And also for the record, I can guarantee most of the QP mods are unlikely to engage with this because just my own engagement has made this too long already, and in this case I wouldn't blame them for it. In word count, issues about QP already dominate this page alone and the preference is generally to move forward. --Raidarr (talk) 21:29, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ok, thanks. Msnhinet8 (talk) 08:10, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's important to remember that Miraheze Limited doesn't really have any staff. It has volunteer positions which are either appointed by the board, elected or otherwise selected by the community, or appointed by members of the technical team who are ultimately selected by the board-appointed Director of Site Reliability Engineering. Over the years, the term "staff" has been used to describe members of the technical team, but it's woefully inadequate as members of the technical team's responsibilities are limited in scope and tend to be more specialized and technical in nature. With the addition of the board-appointed Trust and Safety team, it's even less accurate. Dmehus (talk) 18:57, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Void's been globally blocking open proxies from a disruptive troll for the past 2-3 weeks now, and for some reason they've been finding ways to come back with even more open proxies. Also, in the meantime, there's been some disruption from I hope this site goes defunct (which has been locked anyway, but could still be investigated at your discretion) considering this personal attack (which had to be hidden) and Reception123 thinks it might be a sock if it attacked Gay Socrates, which seems to be unusual to me, considering how the user in question that I was ignoring for a while decided to talk trash about me again, and he also implied that he doesn't want to be here anymore. All adoption requests are effectively on hold until this user returns (at which point he will see and likely follow up on them all at once) or Void gains enough extra time to stab at the system himself. But I'm afraid additional notification may not help for this matter as the user is simply gone until further notice. --Raidarr (talk) 09:10, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A little more housekeeping[edit source]

Hello there. I believe the other stewards have been a little too busy to address these points, so I raise them here and hope I can bump their ranking in priority:

  • Requests for Comment/Community Directors (Amendments): I believe the results here are conclusively positive across the board and that it would be best for this to at least be approved quite soon so that it can be updated and in time, put to use. I've mentioned this in passing during a discussion about the Board on discord, and I believe it would at least somewhat help perception for this particular block to be lifted (so to speak, given the passage of time). I would volunteer and I know a few others would volunteer to put the details into their appropriate pages, so long as basic confirmation is done.
  • Requests for Comment/Landing page redesign: while not as conclusive, I believe this has similarly run its course for input and would benefit from closure. It does not prescribe a particular action and so I doubt there's anything that can be done with it, but I digress.

This is not to distract from other things such as the adoptions and needed investigations, and I'm aware I've delivered quite a number of pings recently. My apologies for doing so. Wish there were more viable hands on deck to help out, but alas. If there is something I can do to reduce the backlog in limited capacities that don't strictly require a steward but would otherwise fall to you from lack of volunteers, I'm open to hearing it. --Raidarr (talk) 16:35, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Raidarr Yeah, the two RfCs are on my radar (no pun intended) as well. For the first RfC, I've expressed a view there. While we don't have any policies precluding involved closures, though a bit of a custom if not a convention among stewards is to avoid them where possible, given the nature of the RfC, I don't feel me closing that would either advisable or in the best interests. That being said, there was no opposition expressed to any of the proposals, so it would be impossible to close any other way. Nevertheless, I was going to ask NDKilla privately to close that when he gets a chance. Regarding the other RfC, I've also expressed a view there, but as you say, it doesn't really prescribe anything, so it's not clear any action would result. Anyone can always take it upon themselves to redesign landing page, or any other page, and then bring them forward for discussion. I may consider an involved closure there, but will add that to the list of tasks for NDKilla to perform. As for the requests for adoption, that's on my to-do list this weekend, as is any outstanding global renames and other minor housekeeping tasks. Dmehus (talk) 16:59, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Raidarr: You say this but ignore the others on the Stewards Noticeboard without being busy as well. If you don't want to continue the conversation, choose not to talk. Yellowass.png (talk) 17:06, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@YellowFrogger: If you have a problem with my activity, by all means raise it on my talk page, otherwise you are out of scope here. --Raidarr (talk) 17:18, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Raidarr: How out of scope? If they're talking about busy stewards. Yellowass.png (talk) 18:17, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what YellowFrogger meant by their original reply, but on the other hand, I don't feel it is out of scope either. In any case, both of you please remember that we're all volunteers here, coming from multilingual backgrounds and cultural contexts, and to assume good faith. Dmehus (talk) 18:24, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Ok. I Just opined. Yellowass.png (talk) 18:50, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@YellowFrogger: With dmehus's input in mind, please explain your original comment, including examples of which threads I am ignoring. --Raidarr (talk) 19:08, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Raidarr: Well, I don't even need to go into too much detail. Just see the Stewards Noticeboard, the {{ping}} notifies the user. Forget it. Yellowass.png (talk) 19:20, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind. Let's do more important things Yellowass.png (talk) 19:21, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I don't understand the statement you made, but agree it's not productive to continue this further. Let's chalk it up to an unexplained mistake and learn from it. Dmehus (talk) 19:39, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Window between wiki requests[edit source]

The first time you pinged me I ignored it. As you are continuing to ping me forces me to clarify the intentions of the above.

As Meta has Requests for Comment, I assumed that Miraheze welcomed input from editors where they consider could improve it. From the noticeboard postings, Miraheze has some disruptive activities and IMHO with additional condition(s) on Request a wiki could help:

  1. step 1 by controlling new wikis which I proposed above. I find it offensive your claim my intentions was a vendetta against SperosDurrell. I am fully aware of Stewards' noticeboard and its purpose for use.
  2. step 2 was to remove inappropriate wikis, what I and expect donors do not believe belong here. But in your rejection of above, you clearly stated that Miraheze policies are perfect and do not need modifying - and Miraheze is proud to host wikis like this, this and this.

As editors are required to Request a wiki, I assumed that Wiki Creators vetoed inappropriate wikis (why I joined) but now with hindsight, they only replace the absent automated system, that Fandom has.

Within the first hour as a Miraheze member, DarkMatterMan4500‎ accused me of being a spammer for a template I created on the Test Wiki to benefit and now in use on wikis. I joined Miraheze as escapism from COVID19 controls. But from the behaviour from you, other rights holders and editors, actually explain why COVID19 controls exist.

You have made it clear, I should be thankful to edit an ad-free, subscription-free Miraheze and no reason to visit Meta. So do not respond as I will not read or see any further pings.
PercyUK (talk) 20:05, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

if you want to take it out on someone do me, not Doug. SperosDurrell (talk) 23:02, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify a couple things, I never claimed your intentions for proposing the RfC was some sort of "vendetta." Not at all. As I stated, I merely suggested that RfC was not the venue to deal with cross-wiki user conduct-related issues. Rather, stewards' noticeboard is the place to raise those sort of things. SperosDurrell was dealt with, and given a global user restriction preventing him from requesting more than one public wiki and from operating more than one user account. To your second point, again, I never said that. Rather, we have the tools and policies in place to deal with problematic wikis. I am not aware of those wikis, but I can definitely look into them. What are the issues? Dmehus (talk) 01:27, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit source]

If someone asks on the Stewards noticeboard can I help even though I'm not a steward? YellowFrogger (Talk Edits) 02:53, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

YellowFrogger Yes, absolutely, you can assist users where (a) you are completely certain you are able to provide information that is both helpful and completely accurate and (b) it does not require the intervention of a Steward, other than as a clerk to manage user expectations of course. Dmehus (talk) 00:47, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why can’t I comment[edit source]

Can you please tell me that? Carpenter family (talk) 00:40, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Carpenter family If you are referring to polcompballwiki, it is because I gave you a short block to warn you and caution you to be civil to other users and to respect the Code of Conduct. You must not call them "retarded" or otherwise make uncivil comments about them, such as about someone's mental capacity and the like. The block was only for three days, but if you are certain that you've learned your lesson and will not repeat the behaviour, I can shorten it for you. Dmehus (talk) 00:45, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
well, I have, my lesson is that the wiki is full of jerks that hate me for just not knowing that much about politics, I hate them all, even my friends have betrayed me, I now realize why fandom closed the pcb wiki, it was to stop all the hatred, pcb sucks, I never want to go back - Carpenter family (talk) 01:11, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It honestly sounds better to just leave the place behind. It's a constant source of moderation work by the entities overseeing it (BallMedia and the Miraheze platform itself), so you'd be doing something of a service by letting it go. Let them wallow, don't step in their goop. --Raidarr (talk) 10:44, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Page Forms users[edit source]

Hello. After getting stuck in making forms for my wikis, I'm going to find some help, but... I'm not sure if Miraheze's wikis did have any other wikis that use Page Forms for shaping articles. Change the subject of my wiki[edit source]

Hi, I would like to know if I wanted to change the subject of my wiki; for example to turn my "Characters Wiki" for all fictional characters into a "Fiction Wiki" that would encompass media, objects, and places with. Could I? Darkrai18 (talk) 17:53, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Darkrai18 Sure, you can. Thanks for checking to ensure your wiki's purpose and scope would be in compliance with Content Policy. "Fiction Wiki" is a bit vague, though. What sort of content would you be writing about? As well, if your existing wiki does not have much content on it and you're the only contributor to your wiki, preference would be for you just to request a new wiki here, as opposed to requesting a wiki database rename on Phabricator as database renames can be a tad messy and also don't easily track the origin of the wiki in Special:RequestWikiQueue, taking care to define a clear purpose and scope for your new wiki. If you no longer require your existing wiki, you can just make it private and mark it as closed, and, optionally, request that it be deleted, if you want to make the subdomain available for other potential wikis sooner than 180+ (or thereabouts) days. Dmehus (talk) 15:16, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fiction Wiki would be about fictional characters as before but also games, franchises, places, weapons, ect... And if I would like to transform my wiki, and not create another one, it would be to keep my content. I'm not saying it would happen right away, I don't even know if it will ever happen, it was just to know if I had the right to change the subject of my wiki or if I had to ask permission first. Help[edit source]

How do I mark an edit as patrolled? — YellowFrogger (Talk Edits) 00:50, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

YellowFrogger There's a couple methods. I usually use the ?action=history method on pages on my watchlist, and click on the previous diff link, then the "mark as patrolled" link appears. You can also use Special:RecentChanges, clicking on the diff link (the current diff link) to mark an edit as patrolled. In that method, I right click on the link, launching it in a new tab, so as to preserve my RC page. Keep in mind, though, if it's the first revision of a given page, you have to use the permanent link link to patrol the page, as there's not a current/previous diff page view. Hope that helps. Request for Checkeruser Rights on Nicolopedia[edit source]

@Dmehus: HI , I request you to kindly give checker user rights on nicolopedia as I am the founder, administrator, bureaucrat of nicolopedia. I have total edits 1,215 on nicolopedia.Jiggyziz (talk) 15:35, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, unfortunately, we cannot give you CheckUser right off the bat. But, you can get it if you do a local election equivalent to Steward Elections. This requires you to sign an NDA with Miraheze Limited, do an election where at least 20 users have voted, and more than 80% have supported. Cheers, -- Bongo Cat (talk) 15:37, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ideally requests of this nature are made on the Stewards' noticeboard so any Steward or able user might answer. In the meantime, the bar is very high per above and even then is granted strictly by trust and necessity; experience on individual wikis pretty much does not matter and the vast majority of cases where CU might be used should be made as reports to the SN, as Miraheze takes the ability to check people's IP very seriously. If you have a particular instance where it's needed, it's preferred to detail that instance on the SN so a Steward may investigate. --Raidarr (talk) 16:09, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Jiggyziz In addition to what has been specified above, while these rights can be granted locally as Bongo Cat described, and provided the prerequisite is in place and accepted, as Raidarr noted, any such local election could not be effected (i.e., put into place) until a second person had undergone the same requirements, as a sort of check and balance. Practically speaking, it is not needed. Stewards can perform this function for you, provided there's good reason (i.e., spambots, abuse of multiple accounts in violation of a local block, etc.). Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 01:00, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit source]

@Dmehus: Hi there, I know you're very busy (from what I've heard) but is it ok if I ask if you want to look into my adoption request for by Dec 3? The wiki I mentioned has been locked because it was inactive for several weeks, and it will be automatically deleted within early December or so (though I might be wrong -- could only be by February 2022, as wikis lock after 60 days of inactivity). Only two edits were made by the creator, and both were on the front page itself. RMV2003 (talk) 17:08, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I need you to protect this page for auto confirmed users edit only: Template:YellowFrogger/ass (it's my signature)

Thanks --YellowFrogger (Talk Edits) 03:37, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

YellowFrogger Yes check.svg Done the page protection of your signature per your reasonable request, in terms of articulated rationale and not over-reaching (i.e., for sysop protection level). However, as the preferred location for userspace templates and user signatures is User: namespace, I've Yes check.svg moved it to User:YellowFrogger/ass. There were no existing transclusions, and the one backlink has been updated Yes check.svg updated. So, all will you need to do is update your preferences to reference the updated location. If you are substituting or transcluding your signature, you will just need to precede it with a colon (:). As in this example, you would use {{:User:YellowFrogger/ass}} or {{subst::User:YellowFrogger/ass}}, depending if transcluding (former example) or substituting (latter example). You would also tick the box below the signature line to treat signature as wikitext. Hope that helps. :) Dmehus (talk) 16:09, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It is easy. The position is a matter of being able to exercise discretion in what is appropriate or reasonably trustworthy and what is not, and collaborating with others or just leaving it for them when unsure. This is the true work involved. Really it's a matter of trust than technical competence. My 2c as another WC. --Raidarr (talk) 09:21, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please Help Just this part[edit source]

Sorry if this bothers you, but I want you to help me. I swear it will only be this one time and I will not speak again. I want you to volunteer for this 'part' : I'm recently training my English so I don't want to use the translator because it has a lot of errors, as a Miraheze volunteer who can also phisically communicate one day with events that Wikimedia does (who knows one day?). With that, I want to start watching movies without dubs or subtitles. I joined a group on a social network where members posted various things there, including audios. I recently saw audio, with background noise and someone talking, and I want to know what they are talking about, and since you are a native English speaker (according to your user page), I want you to see the audio and say here what it is / means / what this woman from the audio said, just to kill my curiosity. I'm not forcing you to do this (again), but the curiosity is high. Here is the audio link: [1] YellowFrogger (Talk Edits) 01:37, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DarkMatterMan4500, thank you, though I do find it interesting, and perhaps a bit ironic, that rather than just direct message me on IRC to apologize or thank me on-wiki, as you Yes check.svg did here for adding a peanut gallery comment, you add on an extraneous comment to an unrelated thread in which you asked me about some reports you made in #miraheze-cvt connect on IRC (which I aim to review this morning in order to determine what, if any, action is required). It sort of seems like your edits on Meta could do with an additional set eyes for an undetermined period of time, eh? Dmehus (talk) 14:47, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus Yes, you're not wrong there. :) DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 14:51, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, glad you agree...I'm thinking we should probably remove your autopatrolled user group through at least the end of January 2022, after which you can make a request at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard for the flag, and if there's general agreement among the participating Meta administrators and any community members that choose to make a comment or otherwise express a view, it'll be restored at that point. How does that sound? Dmehus (talk) 14:54, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think it sounds fair. And until then, I won't be requesting any new permissions for about 3 months after this date starting today. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 14:56, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SperosDurrell Thanks for the reply. Looking through local contributions, I'm seeing less than ten (10) total edits to the wiki, all of which were quite or very minor, so this suggests to me you're still merely interested in requesting, and having created, wikis with no content on them. I would note, though, that you're still not restricted from requesting one private wiki for your personal notes, rough drafts, other ephemera, and things, provided it remains a private wiki, of course. Msnhinet8 Yes, absolutely, the Interwiki extension is enabled globally on Miraheze, and, if you meet the requirements, you can hold a local interwiki administrator election on your wiki, then notify me or any Steward when your election has concluded, ideally at Stewards' noticeboard. Dmehus (talk) 05:07, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You can, but the user group can only be granted by Stewards for mainly security reasons, which we'll do gladly once you hold a local election, unless you are the only contributing community member to your wiki. So it is not difficult. Or do you just want a prefix or two added to your wiki? Dmehus (talk) 05:19, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Msnhinet8 Do you personally speak 300 languages? I personally don't see a lot of point in this. Miraheze is a 100% free wiki farm, with limited financial resources. That's a lot of wikis, and I'm not sure how you could reasonably manage them all by yourself, or largely by yourself. That would be quite taxing on both community and technical volunteer resources, too. Please do see this thread on Reception123's user talk page where he and I gave you similar advice earlier in the year. Hope this helps. Dmehus (talk) 03:10, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question[edit source]

Hello. I have a quick little question for you. Yes, I do promise to cease this behaviour immediately. But I have been wondering about something. While my IP address's global block is 3 months and is probably set to expire soon, how long are my other accounts locked for? It's actually quite scary to have my final warning on maturity. If I fail to listen to what you're telling me (which I hope doesn't happen), I will get my account locked. Again, I promise to refrain from this attitude immediately. CookiesandCream01 (talk) 17:36, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

CookiesandCream01 I might as well answer your question, as Doug is currently doing something else, but there is no expiration date on accounts that are globally locked. And to further exacerbate things, I don't know if I could trust your word on that. I'd like to hear from Doug as well, as this is his talk page. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 17:59, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for answering my question. Also, please don't worry about things! You can trust me on ceasing the behaviour, I won't do it again. Thanks for helping me out, means the world to me when someone helps! CookiesandCream01 (talk) 18:38, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
CookiesandCream01 In addition to what DarkMatterMan4500 has said above while watching my user talk page, while the restriction is indeed indefinite, I should make it clear that you're not prohibited from operating multiple accounts. Your restriction simply requires you to create your alternate accounts ideally while logged in to your main account, using Special:CreateAccount and either entering a password for the accounts or, also ideally, requesting a temporary password be sent to your current e-mail address. Alternatively, should you create an account logged out, you must confirm it is your alternate account (usually on a user page somewhere) by having your main account say that it is your alternate account, and then having your alternate account confirm its main account via its user page (or similar). You can ask to have this restriction lifted, but I would strongly advise that you wait at least three months before requesting this, to provide enough of a track record to see you operating your account(s) in a constructive and non-deceptive fashion. As to unlocking your sockpuppet accounts, some of them engaged in blatant vandalism, so I personally don't see a lot of point in that; however, if you articulated a specific reason why you want one or more of them unlocked, I'd certainly entertain that for you. Warning[edit source]

Deleting Rfa was even fair with arguments that searching in the search box is redirected anyway. However, Twintle's would have a certain importance, and the reason for the exclusion was only because "redirection from one namespace to the other". For me this is a Wikipedia policy. I've read the entire CoC and content policy but never found a policy stating this. YellowFrogger (Talk Edits) 06:11, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Confused about your comment on Discord:[edit source]

Regarding this comment, I will clarify that Legroom was the requester in question who requested this wiki, mainly from the fact that it mentioned something about mature-related content. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:21, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Bluetigerelevenblue[edit source]

I don't get why you deleted this redirect, it is still a necessary redirect regardless, and if anyone (other than me) creates this account, then it will be impersonation. FatBurn0000 (talk) 02:09, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also, User talk:Bluetigerelevenblue is a necessary redirect as well. FatBurn0000 (talk) 02:10, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
FatBurn0000, it's not a registered user account, though. You don't have a monopoly on other users using the Bluetigerelevenblue username. If you want to prevent impersonation, go to Special:CreateAccount, whilst logged in to your main account, and register that user as an alternate account, linked to an e-mail address. From there, you can create a global user page stating it's a doppelganger account of FatBurn0000. :) Dmehus (talk) 02:18, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Msnhinet8, regarding your request for interwiki administrator, as it's likely you're requesting local interwiki administrator on one or more of your wikis, I've reverted your malformed/blank request for the global version, and instead invited you to host local election pages for this permission on each wiki. If you're the only active editor on one or more wikis, you can just let me know, and request local interwiki administrator without the formalities of a local election. ok, so I can request local interwiki administrator without the formalities of a local election? Msnhinet8 (talk) 03:29, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Msnhinet8, not exactly. If you're the only recently active editor on your wiki(s), we have granted local interwiki administrator without a local election page. Otherwise, you simply host a local election page on each wiki, wait 5-7 days, then let Stewards know in some fashion, and we'll assess your local election. Agent Isai or I can clarify further if you have questions. Dmehus (talk) 03:43, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would personally recommend against that, as I'm not confident the community would see your activity on Meta Wiki (this wiki) as being significant enough per the policy. My best advice would be to seek local interwiki administrator on multiple wikis, or focus on reviewing wiki requests, other than your own, and approving, requesting more information, and declining them in accordance with Content Policy. Create this page on Meta[edit source]

Hello. Can you create the following pages here on Meta: [2] and [3] from Wikipedia? I can't create because I'm not a bureaucrat or Interface administrator for editing in the MediaWiki namespace. YellowFrogger (Talk Edits) 05:48, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:YellowFrogger, we have MediaWiki:Common.css and MediaWiki:Common.js, but I would need to know exactly what change you're requesting on Meta (i.e., specific code to add). We would not necessarily copy, verbatim, the Common.css and/or Common.js pages from English Wikipedia as there is a lot of unnecessary CSS/JS code not specifically needed on Miraheze. Dmehus (talk) 05:51, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

please help me[edit source]

Dmehus, hello my wiki Nicolopedia Pending change protection has only the level of "allow all members only" and "allow only managers" I have only "allow autoinstalled members" anywhere Can't see review level anywhere, pending changes on my wiki 3 levels of protection are needed, please do something or else I'll have to close the wiki? I would like to please ask an interwiki manager and system manager to reset this security on my wiki, I am very upset about this topic.😭😭Thanks.WolfMan (talk) 06:11, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WolfMan Thank you for your question. I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you meaning protection levels, or are you meaning the FlaggedRevs extension? This needs some clarification. Dmehus (talk) 06:14, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus, this FlaggedRevs extension. In hindi wikipedia have three flagrevrevision level firstly , flagrevreviewers, flagrevadmin, flagrevautoconfirmed but in my wiki flagrevreviewers or flagrevautoconfirmed are missing? Thanks. WolfMan (talk) 06:18, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
WolfMan, this would be a complicated set up. Firstly, you'd need all those protection levels set up on your wiki. FlaggedRevs has its own issues, and Wikipedia has a very custom setup for FlaggedRevs such that all revisions do not require reviewing. Miraheze does not do that with its FlaggedRevs implementation. As such, I do not recommend using FlaggedRevs as it invariably causes issues. I do, however, endorse using either ApprovedRevs or Moderation extension, which are both much, much simpler and better coded extensions. I would recommend disabling FlaggedRevs and using either of those instead. Hope this helps. Dmehus (talk) 06:23, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus, ok I'll activate this ApprovedRevs on your wiki immediately, but Moderation I don't trust this extension because I've been using it before. Don't see the content of the article even after processing the request? Although you must know that you cannot always give the security level of allow only the manager on every article, even if you are active on Wikipedia or Meta Wikimedia, then you will know that Wikipedia also believes in pending change protection and I do too , the reason is - if anonymous or other members edit a page with a pending change protection, the new memoir will not appear until that memoir is accepted, if you can help me on the subject, please do, can my Can't setup customer on wiki? Thank you. WolfMan (talk) 06:42, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Can you help me with this issue, my wiki needs template editing rights or more template editor protection level to have special protection on mold, can you activate this protection on my wiki with this right? This is my humble request to you. Thank you. WolfMan (talk) 04:14, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If I have an idea for changes to one of Miraheze's policies, am I allowed to make an RFC about it? FatBurn0000 (talk) 23:56, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

He might not respond for some time, but I could answer this by saying you definitely are allowed to request an RfC regarding changes to Miraheze's policies. Not sure what else he might say, but it could be similar. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:59, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's advisable you have a clear actionable idea for the change and have consulted other people to avoid it being 'snowballed', but yes, you certainly can. Not to speak for Dmehus either of course :p --Raidarr (talk) 00:21, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please, if it's a futile change, don't make it up. Just if it's one that's constructive. At Miraheze we already have a lot of policies about everything. If one is missing, it must be for a good reason. YellowFrogger (Talk Edits) 00:25, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@FatBurn0000: I concur with Raidarr, you should preferably consult others before making a Request for Comments. It is extremely advisable you draft the RfC on the Community noticeboard to allow community members to opine before actually publishing the Request for Comments and potentially SNOWballing. Many RfCs that have undergone that drafting process via the Community noticeboard end up passing thus I strongly encourage you to draft and propose the idea on the Community noticeboard to allow for community input. Hey[edit source]

Look who back. In this week a lot happened. Including I even lost my patrolled YellowFrogger (Talk Edits) 23:43, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My rights[edit source]

Do you know how to analyze if I still have a chance to be a Patroller? Although the editors recommended that I not ask for Patroller again, instead to wait. My rights have been revoked by an issue: See the story here: Meta:AN#Request for Patroller (YellowFrogger) Hope you don't (/ignore) YellowFrogger (Talk Edits) 00:45, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I do see you having an opportunity to be a patroller again, but as I said, I would suggest you wait at least thirty (30) calendar days and only do so after having reviewed the patroller guidelines, commonly accepted reasons for deletion, remember to assume good faith, and, generally speaking, not jump in too quickly. Additionally, as I've articulated to you and Raidarr previously, a couple times as I recall, I would now again suggest you avoid all interactions with each other on Meta Wiki. This would messaging each other on your respective talk pages, certainly, but also avoiding each other's threads, or at least not replying directly to each other in them, on the various noticeboards. The two of you seem not to "gel" too well, if I'm completely honest. Dmehus (talk) 05:01, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
YellowFrogger, on assuming good faith, try and take others' feedback as constructive criticism, rather than as a personal attack or criticism of you personally. Though I agree some users could articulate their points more clearly and certainly less directly, I think in most cases, it's really meant about helping you. As a personal anecdotes, you may wish to see this thread in which I, too, had my autopatrolled bit revoked by RhinosF1, and had it re-added less than a month later. While that too was done a bit too directly and perhaps abruptly, with little warning, a sentiment generally shared by DeeM28 at the time, what I'm trying to suggest is a lot can change in a short period of time. Dmehus (talk) 05:07, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Just like you said. The server (Disc) issue that you might not know from just using IRC (I think) was caused because I didn't like an open vote that took place a few days ago on RfP (when I did one request to be Wiki Creator), I didn't like RR voting to oppose and I cited the arguments for that. I agree that anyone can have their own opinion and have the right to vote Symbol oppose vote.svg Oppose or Symbol support vote.svg Support and whatever. So, the bad thing is that I was raising this topic a few days ago on the Discórdia server, the editors even tried to change the subject, but I insisted on it. The mood wasn't that heavy, you can see that I didn't criticize anyone for deconstruction, but I raised connotations. Of course he had motivations like the PIX way (I have a feeling he abuses his rights and doesn't give a second chance, but forget about it. Maybe he has his reasons). and suddenly rights revoked on Meta and fined on the Discórdia server. I made lamentation for something so deplorable to the Discord server admin who took my mutual off the server. I didn't gain trust again of course. As you can see, Special:Contributions/YellowFrogger I do contribute to translation or bulletin board questions and I think this I think I deserved a second chance to get this patroller in less than thirty days, but that's what I won't do. I'll wait until 30 days or more (in January) to request the Patroller again or wait for an admin to do that. Note that I don't despair of the Patroller either, as there are many ways to contribute without it. , I think that patrolling edits is an important function in Meta and even a form of contribution by the way. I have several problems, for example: You answering lately my answer here was once a reason for "limitless patience", I don't like talking to myself, but I don't need to be in a hurry, much less anger about these things. YellowFrogger (Talk Edits) 05:25, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I recall zero advisement in the past to avoid interaction with YellowFrogger. I would like to know which advisements these may have been previously, in here or in confidence if you wish. --Raidarr (talk) 09:05, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can't recall the exact phrasing, but as I remember it was more of friendly advice to the two of you, in a thread on stewards' noticeboard or community noticeboard. In any case, given that this is an ongoing two-party dispute, I do think this would be a good idea going forward. Dmehus (talk) 09:09, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As I neither recall nor can immediately look up the referred text, I take the advisement as going forward. Although I will say, I'm not taking particular issue with him (it began and extended on the WC request with a rather involved incident on Discord) nor hold hard feelings. As I'm sure he would attest, there are some who've acted much more strongly pursuant to those events. --Raidarr (talk) 09:24, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, fair enough, but I wasn't referring specifically to his wiki creator request, but prior disagreements I've seen the two of you have, which semeed like it'd been a bit personal. That might or might not have been the case. One thing I might suggest, as an olive branch, and if you're up for it, is extending an offer to YellowFrogger, via his user talk page, to take him under "your wing" over the next month or two, prepping him for a future wiki creator request. Basically, like a wiki creator mentorship arrangement. I'd love to see that. :) Dmehus (talk) 09:30, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm on Discord, but I'm, admittedly, not as active there. Dmehus (talk) 05:46, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your note to Blazikeye535.[edit source]

Due to his inactivity on Meta-Wiki, it will be difficult for him to answer you here. If I were you, I would give his proper note about the plot on the reception wikis he activates or edits. Under any circumstances, if it uses global notifications.... --YellowFrogger (Talk) 13:43, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

He is notified of the message via Discord, where he will inevitably see it. Though I would not expect an immediate response (stipulating that would hold true even notifying him 'locally' I believe). --Raidarr (talk) 13:55, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Does he link Miraheze's account with discord?
Still, I think I'll let him know on the wikis where he edits --YellowFrogger (Talk) 14:08, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with Raidarr here. It's very likely Blazikeye535 has cross-wiki Echo notifications enabled, so they'll see it eventually. It's not super urgent (i.e., they don't need to reply in the next 2-3 days, but a week would be nice). Dmehus (talk) 14:36, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit source]

How do I help small wikis Rtyoip alt (talk) 06:57, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rtyoip alt, I'm not sure what you mean, but in general terms, I would suggest using Special:ListUsers/bureaucrat on any Miraheze wiki, then reach out to the most recently active bureaucrat via their local user talk page, and ask how you can help? Dmehus (talk) 07:01, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An old AN request[edit source]

Hi Doug. Will you please tell me what has been done to my previous AN request. Thank you! --Magogre (talk) 16:04, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's right, that would be nice, but there's not much to add other than "These users will have their edits patrolled automatically, without being patrolled by patrollers". --YellowFrogger (Talk) 16:40, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Magogre, thank you for your request. I've now Yes check.svg done this temporarily, as a local interface message for now, but plan to (within the next 2-3 months or so), restore the MirahezeMagic global interface messages, so this should then be redundant. But until that's done, this is a reasonable request. Dmehus (talk) 19:43, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Magogre (talk) 16:25, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Who approves wiki requests? IP editor 02:46, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Wiki creators. --Raidarr (talk) 19:20, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How long do does it take? IP editor 20:36, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
The creation itself, not long. The review, depends on time of day. Between a few minutes to several hours pending WC availability and the request. --Raidarr (talk) 17:16, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wiki creators do this and you must first log in to request a wiki (if you don't have an account, you must create it). You can provide the scope of the wiki in a large description that fits within our content policy. Creating a wiki doesn't take long (usually between 1 and 3 minutes) if it's accepted. --YellowFrogger (Talk) 23:43, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

YellowFrogger, yes, that was the plan, but I deferred due to potential logistical issues. Fortunately, there were not as many as I expected. So this I've Yes check.svg done the requested history merge at here, with a note to the follow up request at my user talk page (new diff #1 and old diff #2). Additionally, I would just like to thank for Pinus/Matsu for previously providing the suggestion. Hi, I see you are reviewing user rights from patroller to autopatrolled because inactivity. Since you have given me a recommendation not to apply for thirty (30) days, patroller rights, I consider (admitting) that I am again requesting patroller rights again today, January 3, (January 4th UTC time, December 6th = January 4th, 29 days). Even if it's only been twenty-nine (29) days later, you're free to choose whether I'm a patroller or not, and specifying the reasons why I'm not yet worthy. Thanks. --YellowFrogger (Talk) 00:35, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

YellowFrogger, I would be okay with this, if you will promise to assume good faith on users' edits, only reverting obvious or blatant vandalism, and asking questions (on Discord or another colleague's user talk page on this wiki) where you are unsure? As well, please confirm that you've understood the guidelines. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 00:50, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In all probability, all my edits will never be with the purpose of offending anyone. Just improve the project, and yes, I understand the policies for that, and the other policies, for real. I've been subscribing to user comments that haven't signed with {{SUBST:unsigned}}, but I'm unlucky not to find vandalism, but that's another thing. I would be fine with any reaction from you, you know. :) I'm free to volunteer. --YellowFrogger (Talk) 01:02, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How do I create an infobox template?[edit source]

Hello there, I'm trying to create an infobox for characters. How do I create an infobox for a template? I'd just like some help here. CookiesandCream01 (talk) 17:08, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Are you talking about importing from Wikipedia? It is better instead to create your own infobox, but this is a waste of time if you don't know. It's very complicated: it must have MediaWiki:Common.css and MediaWiki:Common.js, have extensions like templatestyles/wikibase client, and the templates and modules: User:YellowFrogger/Cool Modules and Templates --YellowFrogger (Talk) 18:05, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are already pre-existing simple alternatives to infoboxes, but if you have a bit of knowledge of template parameters and some parser functions, making an infobox template would be really easy.  Anpang📨  12:24, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alternatively with far fewer steps, eldrich code and upkeep, you might consider the Portable Infobox path. Enabling it also grants access to Special:PortableInfoboxBuilder to rather easily develop infoboxes with minimal code competence. For a more code competent guide, I point to the Wikia guide here. --Raidarr (talk) 21:39, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Protection for edit conflicts[edit source]

I am unable to locate a protection policy here, however I'm certain that if there is one it does not permit protection at sysop level to avoid edit conflicts, nor should it: edit conflicts are a part of the software, and sysops are not "more important" than other editors, and there is no reason why their edits should take precedence over others or use their tools to gain an advantage. I had not mentioned it when it had only happened once or twice but you seem to be doing this a lot. I would encourage you to either stop protecting pages for this reason or seek consensus for the change at community noticeboard (I certainly would oppose it). Naleksuh (talk) 03:49, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. They have already tried to create a protection policy (actually they did, but it was deleted because it was not "appropriated by the Miraheze", but by MediaWiki (protection system)). Although these acts of Doug in protecting the pages may irritate, it is possible to understand with these slow servers. This would avoid editing conflict and disturb the service of Doug less, but I think protecting the pages it is not necessary. --YellowFrogger (Talk) 03:55, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As a matter of best practice from what I know, it's preferable to reach out to the parties and get them to pause as compared to using a technical means to force the result. I'm not opposed to it sparingly and I don't really see a substantial issue here, but perhaps Dmehus can be more sparing in the future. --Raidarr (talk) 09:46, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I range[edit source]

Is there any way you can unlock (or at least shorten the lock expiration to 1-3 months?) I hadn't realized this before, and I wouldn't be able to take an action anyway due to reCAPTCHA. --YellowFrogger (talk) () 06:24, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

YellowFrogger, the locks of your sockpuppet accounts are indefinite; there is no defined time limit. As to creating other user accounts, there is nothing precluding you, in terms of your user restriction, from creating alternate accounts while logged in, so long as (a) they don't edit on Meta Wiki and (b) you disclose them via your global user page. As to the reCAPTCHA point, in actual fact, creating alternate accounts while logged in, on a wiki where you are either autoconfirmed or otherwise have the skipcaptcha user right will mean you're unaffected by the reCAPTCHA bug. Dmehus (talk) 06:47, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I strongly recommend with any respect my presence may garner to a) completely forget about your alternate accounts or creating new ones, b) take a substantial break from Meta as has been suggested several times, and c) develop your own wikis which were no doubt one of the key considerations behind your currently unlocked primary account despite the severity of sockpuppetry that has taken place. At this time let me be frank, there is nothing for you to continue here including inquiries to reduce the sanctions in place. It is clear that periods of a month, or three have made no difference, and it is instead best to make this recommendation 'indefinite' as well until say, there's been substantial progress in the course of performing c). --Raidarr (talk) 09:41, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Raidarr: I have to create more accounts, I can't go with that name, but I will only tell the steward(s) in the process, to avoid a new violation. Also, I had already been 'kicked off the bus' since that CN thread. As I like to edit, even though you said "there is nothing for you to continue here", I'll continue to edit Meta with another account, but that no one knows other than the steward(s). --YellowFrogger (talk) () 19:29, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

More accounts[edit source]

Hello Doug! More accounts for you lock/glob if you want:

Also, I will do a wikibreak yes, but I want to create another account and inform the stewards by email, what do you think? --YellowFrogger (talk) () 19:23, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@YellowFrogger: You were placed under an indefinite one-user account restriction, weren't you? In fact, I do remember Doug telling you to not create anymore accounts after you were caught abusing multiple accounts. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 19:48, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DarkMatterMan4500: He told me above "As to creating other user accounts, there is nothing precluding you, in terms of your user restriction, from creating alternate accounts while logged in". I must create an account logged in, but I will let the stewards know only. --YellowFrogger (talk) () 19:57, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New accounts[edit source]

Hello Doug. I'll create a new account to edit Meta in a few days (and if the reCAPTCHA goes back to normal here for me) and I'll let you know, but don't tell anyone, keep it to yourself. I won't abuse it either (in voting on requests I've already voted on) and I'll create on different wikis so that no one notices and holds a grudge. --YellowFrogger (talk) () 19:51, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding our recent encounter[edit source]

Hello, @Dmehus. It was suggested that my username may be inappropriate for this website. However, I would have to disagree. My username is not inappropriate. The last three letters on my name (which is what I assume is the problem in my username), are pronounced T.I.T., not “tit”. This should answer your concerns.

-MoistyTIT MoistyTIT (talk) 14:02, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

MoistyTIT, well, the issue is the "TIT" together with the word "moisty." It's not how it's pronounced; it's how it's read, not just because most people read wikis on screen (i.e., that is to say, they do not use a screen reader to read the contents of wikis to them). Dmehus (talk) 14:36, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus Moisty is a name, it’s not even in the dictionary. I don’t see why this is a problem. MoistyTIT (talk) 15:20, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
MoistyTIT, well, the issue is our community endorsed Username Policy does not permit, among other things, usernames that are offensive, derogatory, profane, or otherwise vulgar and, additionally, usernames designed, intentionally or otherwise, to provoke a reaction. We wouldn't permit a name like Sweatyballs, Clammydick, or Stinkyass, so I don't see why we'd permit a name like Moistytit, Moistytits, or MoistyTIT. On the latter point, allowing differential capitalization would open up a procedural loophole that may otherwise permit SweatyASS, with the user claiming "ASS" represents their initials. While I believe your intent was largely good faith, Stewards, together with Global Sysops, have to ensure our global policies are applied equally to all. Dmehus (talk) 03:17, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus, The thing is, with the username examples you provided, those aren’t just usernames, they actually exist and are real things. Everyone knows what a “Clammydick” or a pair of “Stinkyballs” is, but nobody knows what a MoistyTIT is (because it doesn’t exist). I see why this is a concern, but my name has been commented on by other users, but I told them what I first told you, and we have no further problems. Again, I see why this is a concern, but I invite you to analyze this situation again. MoistyTIT (talk) 13:55, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Dmehus here and think that it would be easier if you just requested a different username that isn't vulgar. Even if the expression might not be used, etc. it still sounds like something vulgar/offensive and there's no real justification for using it. Reception123 (talk) (C) 16:23, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This isn’t your problem; stay out of it. MoistyTIT (talk) 23:57, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I did not know you were an admin. I guess it is your problem them. MoistyTIT (talk) 01:11, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Beyond an admin he is a Global Sysop, just as Dmehus is a Steward, (as am I) and between the three of us here it is our responsibility to consider username policy violations. In other words you have now three users with global jurisdiction who agree you need to have your name changed. You've been given considerable leeway with it for some time (as well as with a history of conduct-related leeway on wikis which we both know well about), now it is time to avoid toying with language to get around the fact that your name is an issue and reads exactly like a conjunction of moisty and tit regardless of the capitalization and intent, and it is a waste of all our times to debate how real a 'moisty tit' is compared to a 'clammy dick'. It is a juvenile argument and you know that, so please, cease the attempted pedantry and request a change to a name that we both know is more appropriate.
You will be given a reasonable period of time to do so, but since this is a matter of policy and there is significant agreement that your name must be changed if you agree or not, it is something that must be done or you will be unable to continue using Miraheze. Thank you for your understanding. --Raidarr (talk) 02:01, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fine then. You have unfairly cornered me but this is what it has come to. I will change my name. MoistyTIT (talk) 02:09, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wanna change my name to “Moisty” but it seems my old account has that name. Can you change Moisty’s name to “Moist-EEE” and then this account to “Moisty”? Thanks. MoistyTIT (talk) 02:16, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, MoistyTIT. Is Moisty recently active? If not, you could post a note on their Meta Wiki user talk page, asking to usurp their username. After about a week, I'll proceed with a global rename. I would allow you to maintain this username while the usurpation request is underway. Dmehus (talk) 02:45, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Since you know me now, you can call me Cedrick. But, I don’t know how to get to their talk page. MoistyTIT (talk) 05:40, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edits while under flood flag[edit source]

When you grant flood flag, it is supposed to be for a specific purpose. You granted yourself flood flag for "Mass deletion of broken redirects" then proceeded to go around doing other things, including altering user rights and blocks. This is a problem, especially for using administrative actions. See Meta:Flood flag for more info. Naleksuh (talk) 04:50, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I thought I had amended the block before granting myself the flood? Oh, wait, there was one, the disabling of the autoblock. That was a minor change, but was unintentional. Apologies. Dmehus (talk) 04:53, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You made two user rights changes while under flood flag. See Naleksuh (talk) 04:57, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sorry about that, that was unintentional, as I'd forgotten it was still on. In any case, my main reason for adding it was to prevent flooding the IRC RC feeds, not necessarily the RC feed on-wiki. I thought this would've been preferred to having StreamBotMH unwatch my log actions on IRC temporarily, but if you'd prefer the latter, I can use that approach instead of the flood flag. Dmehus (talk) 05:00, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
With this log action, I've now publicly logged to RC the three log actions inadvertently performed while still flood flagged. Apologies for the error. Dmehus (talk) 05:07, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I'm not convinced flood flag ever should have been added in the first place. The "broken redirects" you are deleting are not broken, they are double redirects and should be retargetted. None of those pages should have been deleted and should be restored and retargetted, especially as they have been there for years and now the links are suddenly dead. Naleksuh (talk) 05:11, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I just deleted the archive subpages, and they were broken redirects. As with moving translated pages, redirects should normally be suppressed when moving pages with a lot of subpages, as otherwise it just creates a lot of clutter. Dmehus (talk) 05:15, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, they were broken because you moved "reopening" -> "reopening wikis" without leaving a redirect. That shouldn't have been done, there should be a redirect. Redirects are not "clutter", especially with high profile pages like requests for adoption. Unless there is opposition from anyone else I may recreate the redirects. Naleksuh (talk) 05:25, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'd just like to point out that while obviously the main RfA page should be a redirect, I don't see any particular need for us to redirect the subpages (i.e. archives) as I see very very limited situations where someone would be directed to the old RfA/archive pages, and say that one of these very limited situations did arise, it would be possible to follow the log action to the correct page if absolutely necessary. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:19, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am blocked? Why?[edit source]

Why? So, the 2fa on my main account was unavailable, so I'm in this account, and I just triggered an abuse filter for some reason?

Basically, I was adding to my user page, "This account is also used when the 2fa on my main account is unavailable", and it triggered the abuse filter for some reason, I was so confused.

"This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: More than 4 consonants" Anpang01 (talk) 01:26, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why does MH a hate 4+ consonants? Did all those letters take down the servers or something? -- Cheers, Bukkit ( TalkAll Contribs ) 01:33, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Anpang01, no, you're not blocked at all. Rather, this abuse log entry prevented you from adding certain characters, likely common among spam only accounts ("spambots"), from being added to user pages by brand new user accounts. So, I Yes check.svg granted you the confirmed permission for one week. If needed longer, it can be extended. Dmehus (talk) 01:34, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay Anpang01 (talk) 01:35, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi:[edit source]

I didn't expect you to unlock WG8686's main account, although I was disappointed that you did that, despite the fact this video from 2 years ago, uploaded on his channel indicating that he doesn't want to come back. As much as we ALL want him to cease this practice, I can understand why you unlocked him, even if I would have to disagree with the action you took. In Leerdoman74's case, that's different, as I'd like that user to be given another chance, but in WG8686's case, I'm a little conflicted. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 02:00, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The user can make private arrangements with Stewards to have an alternate account created for them in lieu of the main account, but I will not be providing any further public comment on this until such time as the user makes that request. Should that request come, you will be privately informed of the user's re-entry and provided with instructions on how to handle the user's re-entry. Thank you. Dmehus (talk) 02:16, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Once he's re-entered, I will have to take him right off the list. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 02:22, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
UPDATE: I've taken him off the list days ago, but if he DOES however screw it up again, then you probably know what I will do from there. :) DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 11:26, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply][edit source]

Why has this range been blocked? Someone from this range wants to create an account, but I have no idea what to tell them as there was no reason provided for the block and there were no edits from the range and talk page access is off. Naleksuh (talk) 19:07, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think there being no reason given was a mistake. The range belongs to a user who has been attempting to evade their global lock. They have also been going around asking SRE to create accounts for them. Reception123 (talk) (C) 19:24, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense, I was also asked to create an account for them via IRC. Thanks for letting me know, you may want to set a reason as such. Naleksuh (talk) 22:38, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the note. As Reception123 speculated, the lack of a global block reason was definitely an unintentional oversight—a very rare occurrence. In any case, aside from correcting the global block log reason and now having refreshed my memory, I'm limited in what I can say, but I will just say that I would not be comfortable removing this block early, as the reason was crosswiki vandalism and abuse. More specifically, contraventions of user accounts policy. Please have the user e-mail Stewards at stewards(at), outlining the wiki(s) where affected, what they were trying to do, etc., and we'll review the request promptly. Dmehus (talk) 02:04, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding my rename request[edit source]

Hello, I hope you're doing good. In regards to my rename request, I really don't know what to say because, I like that Username (Chimalytical) and I want it to be my username henceforth, I also use it on some of my other platforms, these reasons are fairly concrete enough to be accepted as a REASON for a rename, so I don't really know what else to say or how to say it.

Regards --  Joseph  TB  CT  CA  15:35, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ugochimobi, thank you for your request for a global rename. While I am not opposed to a global rename, the issue is that you're quite an active Meta Wiki and global Miraheze user, one who is also an interwiki administrator globally and locally on one or more wikis. As the CentralAuth extension does not support updating of user rights interwiki log and/or global rights log entries, I don't feel this is particularly transparent. As well, your old username would be a potential target for impersonation. Finally, as an active global user, with many, many global edits and attached wikis, it becomes somewhat problematic from a technical point of view to be done more than once or, at most, twice, particularly given your lack of a rename reason in the second request and a weak reason in the first (i.e., that you simply tired of the username), I would want some certainty that this would be the one and only global rename you would request. This, of course, would not preclude you from later adopting a new personae, under a new username.
That being said, I would be willing to entertain a new global rename request, provided that you:
  1. E-mail me your registered e-mail address, so I can immediately create a Ugochimobi alternate account for you, for which you would, in turn, login to and create an alternate account global user page identifying it as your former account, for mainly impersonation purposes. As well, I would additionally update any wikilinks and transclusions, at least on Meta Wiki, using a piped wikilink where possible, to preserve your original username as the displayed wikitext
  2. Create global user page identifying it as your former account, for mainly impersonation purposes, as described in the first bullet point above
  3. Confirm, by way of a reply to this thread, that you agree with the above and that you are 100% satisfied on the above username, and that this would be the new permanent and final username for this user account.
Dmehus (talk) 03:09, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am 80% satisfied with these :) heh, but yeah, I'd email you asap and you can continue with the rename.
Regards --  Joseph  TB  CT  CA  08:37, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi, sure, that works. Can you clarify that you're either (a) 100% satisfied with the above or (b) 80% satisfied with the above, but nonetheless agree to, all of the above as well though? Point # 3 is the one I'm most concerned with, since point # 2 doesn't require you to create its global user page, and you've agreed to point # 1. Dmehus (talk) 18:00, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am okay with #3 but not with #2 but with #1. --  Joseph  TB  CT  CA  19:47, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So in essence, it seems you want to disassociate yourself from the "Ugochimobi" name then, is that correct? Agent Isai Talk to me! 20:21, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi, I have to agree with what Agent Isai has assumed above. Accordingly, pending a change of heart on #2 and a clarification on #1, I'd be inclined to mark this as not done/declined. Additionally, something else for you to consider, as a very active Phabricator user, SRE generally do not rename active users' Phabricator accounts for mainly technical reasons. So, you would alternatively need to request SRE disable your Ugochimobi account and create a new Chimalytical Phabricator account. I raise this as something else for you to consider. @Water eater120: I find it quite odd that you somehow know Doug to some degree. While that is fine, some of your edits are a tad bit strange in some way. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:58, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
He has his name displayed in his userpage also I don't even know this guy all I know is his name is Doug and he uses the site that is literally all Water eater120 (talk) 00:08, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Water eater120, exactly! I don't know you from Adam, but it's nice to meet you. Welcome to Miraheze. Hopefully my preceding response has been of some assistance. :) Dmehus (talk) 01:51, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Water eater120, some examples of wikis "made for schools" might be, in the case of students, a wiki for a group or individual project. In such cases, you should describe the school project in a sentence or two, identify whether it will be public or private, and the course involved. It could also be a public or private notetaking wiki, but again, usually for these, you need a clear purpose, scope, and topic(s) for your wiki; otherwise, we may conditionally approve it as a private only wiki accessible to members and sysops only on your wiki. It could also be a school project planning, day planner, or kanban board-esque style wiki. For instructors, it could be a curriculum resource wiki, an informational wiki for a specific course(s) taught, or some other informational resource. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 01:48, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just a heads up if you see any content that isn't related to school stuff I may also cram some personal projects in there I just don't think that there should be another Wiki for projects when they already have one cheers Water eater120 (talk) 02:03, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That should be okay. Thanks! Dmehus (talk) 02:06, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well it's for curriculum projects and for planning and note-taking it's basically there to organize and coordinate stuff if you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask me :) Water eater120 (talk) 02:05, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Msnhinet8, thank you for your question and for checking. Looking at the request, that looks clear enough to me. I personally would've probably approved it was a "good" request, rather than a "perfect" request, as it's not completely clear the type of content the wiki will contain; however, your approval was fine. I don't see how you think asking every volunteer about it is going to change the fact that in order to get global rights, you must request them (properly/in the right place) depending on what you want, nobody can give them. And as stated before, getting the support needed to get them will be difficult given your background. --Raidarr (talk) 20:39, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki request for BlackWidowMovie0[edit source]

Hi Doug,

As part of the Trust and Safety partial service ban for BlackWidowMovie0, BlackWidowMovie0 is required to notify and request through the Trust and Safety team of any wiki(s) they require, so the team can review their wiki request(s) to ensure they would be in compliance with the terms of the partial service ban and so the team is aware of their wiki(s) at all times and can properly monitor them to ensure continued compliance. The original plan was to have this Trust and Safety role account pass the request through to community wiki creators and/or stewards, to review the wiki request in accordance with applicable community processes and policies using Special:RequestWiki. Unfortunately, Special:RequestWiki does not provide a field to specify a requestor other than the user entering data in that special page whereas Special:CreateWiki does. I will be corresponding with Universal Omega on either IRC or Discord this weekend to see if there might be a feasible way to implement this, without it causing confusion for users. In the meantime, I am passing the request here for you, or another wiki creator, to review it in a community capacity and decision accordingly, presumably using Special:CreateWiki and linking to the request in the format of [[Special:Permalink/######|Requested]], where ###### is the relevant revision ID.

Wiki request details:

Sitename: BlackWidowMovie0's Wiki

Wiki type (public/private): private

Wiki purpose and/or scope: Personal, private data repository and notetaking/scratchpad/to-do list/calendaring wiki.

Should you, or the claiming wiki creator/steward, require clarification, please {{ping}} me on reply, and I will respond as soon as I am able. Thank you.

Hello Doug, I'm doing good keeping up with the wiki I'm currently working on. Also I came to you first before posting, didn't want to cause problems. Would self promotion aka spamming? SperosDurrell, thank you for your question. I'm well thanks, you? Have you posted about footyworldwiki at community noticeboard yet, or recently? If the latter, when? If not, or if not in the past three months, should be fine, provided you make clear what your wiki's purpose and scope are, how it differentiates itself from other similar wikis, and what specifically you need help with. Thanks.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 11:09, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Msnhinet8, I'm not sure I know what you mean. Largest wikis as measured by number of pages, number of revisions on all pages, number of edits by all users, or number of users regardless of edits for each? Or, do you mean you want a Steward to delete a page containing more than 1,000 revisions to the page and which requires the bigdelete user right? Assuming you mean the former, you can try Gazetteer of wikis, though its data is a bit out of date; however, there is a linked Wikimedia Toolforge page that provides statistical data of this nature. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 02:11, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I need help with the infoboxes[edit source]

Hello, sorry to bother you. I need help but I don't know where to ask for it, and then I saw your talk page so I took the oppoturnity.

So, I wanted to start creating pages for my wiki, and I wanted to create an Infobox. It doesn't work like Fandom so I checked Infoboxes on other wikis but I tried to make my own Infobox. Finally, I created this one, but it doesn't work like a Infobox at all, it's just a template and everything that I write goes under it. I can't find any help anywhere, so I'm here to ask you if there's any way to turn it into an infobox or it's impossible and I have to keep the regular form of infoboxes.

Finally, I changed my mind and I just went with it. But now, the problem is that all the text that I put on a page after the infobox just under the infobox, like here. Also, all the informations that I put on the infobox are bold and the infobox is too narrow, and I wanted to know if there's a way that they wouldn't be bold anymore and change the lenght of the infobox.

I hope you answer me, I don't know what to do anymore. Have a good day!

I want to adopt wiki directly[edit source]

Since I am not allowed to apply for a new wiki, I would like to adopt an abandoned wiki.
The method is just like Matttest.
But before adopting, I hope miraheze first try to contact the original site owner. If the other party is determined to lose contact, I ask the original bureaucrat and the original administrator to delete the permissions to avoid future disputes.
On the other hand, I will recruit additional assistant administrators to help manage the branch.--黑底屍 (talk) 03:56, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@黑底屍: please recognize that you are appealing to the person I told you needed to be consulted before your wiki request(s) could be processed. Unfortunately, Dmehus is often very busy; patience here is required for progress. --Raidarr (talk) 13:59, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I understand what you mean.
The uncyclopedia I run and manage is the Chinese version of the spoofed version of wikipedia.
Tribute to wikipedia with innocuous mockery and parody, such parodies are understood and approved by wikipedia. Therefore, there are different language versions of uncyclopedia in various countries in the world, and the country code of the uncyclopedia I run represents “China”.
unbooks themselves are imitated from wikibooks, which is obtained
The Wikimedia Foundation is aware and tacitly acquiesced that this is not a themed site created for personal interest.
The wikis I applied for later were all joked versions that were created in tribute to the various websites of the Wikimedia Foundation, and I didn't apply for whatever themes I liked.
I hope miraheze understands this, after all, undictionary was built by Mr. Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, who provided his Wikia as a carrier.--黑底屍 (talk) 17:14, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Dmehus: Hi! I added some more comments to the stewards' notice board about the dormancy policy exemption for that I hope that you could take into account when reviewing the matter. Not sure how the stewards' notice board works as I'm new to this platform, but wanted to give you a heads up. :-)

Unblocking Eric Bagwell at Greatest Movies Wiki, Awful Movies Wiki, Best TV Shows Wiki, Terrible TV Shows Wiki, Awesome Games Wiki and Crappy Games Wiki.[edit source]

You'll have to unblock me, that's why I accept my apology. Please, be a friend. Once you've unblocking me, I can do proper editing again. Eric Bagwell (talk) 17:10, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Eric Bagwell has been disruptive, uncooperative, and unchanging in his trajectory for long enough including in what are quite frankly highly insincere appeals on Meta that I do not recommend intervention for a good few months. --Raidarr (talk) 20:23, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Look, I apologized. Just, unblock me, pal. Eric Bagwell (talk) 20:26, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Eric Bagwell: Please don't start with this. You've been given WAY too many chances to redeem yourself, but you kept resuming with the same disruptive behavior. Doug is not your babysitter, and he shouldn't be. Besides, pestering other users, especially me, was one of the reasons why you were blocked in the first place. So I would recommend you to cease trying to contact other users into unblocking you, and instead take a hiatus from this platform and recuperate. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:24, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
DarkMatterMan4500, listen, I knew I apologized to other users. This is why, you'll have to unblock me, my friend. Eric Bagwell (talk) 20:28, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Quite frankly, nobody is required to unblock you if they feel as though they blocked you for a valid reason, which in this case, you were WAY too disruptive that the block reason was entirely valid. It's going to take more than an apology to make up for the massive disruption you have caused. You're going to need to prove it, by going at least a good while away from the platform. Now I'm not going to repeat too much, but the way you annoyed other users has been my biggest pet peeve for awhile now, and now it's gotten to a point where this is an absolute time waster, and is a waste of everyone's time when you do stuff like this. I recommend you to take some time off, hopefully to realize what went wrong. That is all I can really offer for you. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:38, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Referring to Eric Bagwell, not Doug, just as an FYI. --DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:39, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Look, I've just noticed that messing up at Awesome Games Wiki was wrong. Oh, sure, I knew I've screwed things up. Just unblock me. Eric Bagwell (talk) 20:42, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Eric Bagwell: This will be my last response to you for now, and Doug may comment on this and share his thoughts (I have a feeling that it will likely be incredibly long, and possibly gut-bustingly aimed at both me and you, given the median here) on this perpetual matter. I do think that Doug will likely have a lot to say to you, but knowing him, he WILL say something to the both of us. Anyway, back to the topic at hand, given the exact refusal to get the message across to you, ignoring what we had to say to you, and constantly annoying users like what you're doing to Doug just now, is absolutely a waste of your time, along with everyone else's. Remember that competency is required, along with good communication. And hopefully going forward, you find something else good for you to do. :) DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:54, 19 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Closures of Community Discussions[edit source]

Hi Doug, I've seen your recent close of this RfC and I have some questions I'd like to raise to you alongside the previous set of questions I raised on publictestwiki following another of your closures.

"Therefore, Stewards remind Meta administrators the delete function exists for such RfCs and they should feel free to use it fairly liberally but appropriately in such cases."
Are you proposing, as a steward, that local sysops should use the delete permissions liberally to hide potentially misdirected community discussions and disputes rather than allowing them to be addressed? The RfC posed a dispute, and a user made a perfectly valid proposal that they are entitled to do so to the community.
"As a final point, to add to and expand on what some users wrote, as Agent Isai effectively articulated, there is no global policy for global bans. Indeed, the community has no capacity to ban a user."
I have previously asked you to justify this claim - can you link me to where there is policy preventing the community from having a discussion as to exclude a user? Keeping in mind we have two previous examples of this happening and a third currently on-going? Also did you even read what he said as his first line was: " I would recommend that you read the Global bans page to get a gist of what a global ban is." which to me suggests not only do global bans exist and have an agreed among set of guidelines, that they can be used and applied - just not in this particular circumstance.
"The prior two referenced community "bans" has been community-advised, Steward-effected global locks."
Isn't this what a community discussion is? To advise a steward the community do not want the user here, thefore they should be locked. Which means they are surely steward-enforced by global locks backed by the community following a community discussion? Which is also only appealable by another community discussion.
"Any appeals would be considered by Stewards in accordance with their responsibilities under the applicable global policies."
Global bans: "To appeal a ban by the community, a user should appeal through a community venue such as Request for Comments."
" Stewards may seek the community's feedback on any potential unlock"
As a steward, no, we will.

I have becoming increasingly concerned with your anti-community closures lately, choosing to push your personal belief that stewards are freemans who do not have to follow community discussions and community consensus, but rather can pick and choose when to apply the rules and when no rule exists, can make up their own even if the community at large disagree. If I do not receive a satisfactory response to this, I may consider steps further to garner community consensus of the legitimacy of these actions - or if another similar situations occurs, I may choose to do the same. John (talk) 19:46, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I fully agree. There is without a doubt a continued pattern of supervotes by Dmehus that has been going on for a while now; many closes overturned also note Stewards'_noticeboard#Requests_for_Comment/Replace_reCAPTCHA_with_another_CAPTCHA_2 where another overturn request is currently going on. While I think simply a topic ban from closing discussions would have made more sense if this was the only issue, I know that other users have other concerns about the way this user has been using Steward permissions. Naleksuh (talk) 00:22, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I too became concerned about Doug as well. Aside from his disappearance at times (assuming he's busy at the moment), I've left him a memo message on IRC and an email not too long ago, urging him to respond when he gets the chance to. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 00:36, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to get a clear and satisfactory reply from Dmehus concerning this. Supervote closures made by Dmehus is continuing for a while now, and as other users noted, there is also no reply from Dmehus. Cheers, Matttest (talk | contribs) 10:16, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Matttest: Give Doug some time. He will eventually respond to all of our messages and respond to our concerns. It's all about patience at the moment. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 10:47, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DarkMatterMan4500: Understand. Cheers, Matttest (talk | contribs) 11:27, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Given the attention thus far I should note that Doug's activity in the past few weeks has been limited and will remain limited for the immediate future that I know of (ie, mid-week activity unlikely, only available via weekends). So Friday at the earliest, more likely Saturday/Sunday would be reasonable minimums for him to observe this. --Raidarr (talk) 12:05, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't matter *too* much, because there's very little they can say that will change anything. Naleksuh (talk) 06:59, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
John, thank you for your questions. With regard to the closure you're questioning, my understanding is that there is no global policy with respect to global bans, as that is a documentation/informational page that explains past community bans. That is, Stewards would take into consideration the community's justified request for a global ban. My concern was in respect to due process with respect to the unbanning, since, as far as I'm aware, no RfC established the Global bans page. That's what Reception123 had explained to me when we had discussions about the global bans page. An appeal of a successful justified community ban relatively soon after the global ban, Stewards would most certainly likely require the community's assent to unban, whereas a ban requested years ago, where the active community and participants who know the history, the actor(s), circumstances, events, etc., may not. That's all I meant in making those comments, but I am certainly open to amending, or removing, my close to accurately reflect global conventions, policies, etc., where required. With regard to the first point, no, I was just referring to clearly out of scope or malformed RfCs, which can be closed early. The proposal didn't specifically seek to preclude deletion of such proposals, but on the other hand, it was probably an extraneous comment and could be removed. Dmehus (talk) 00:25, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I know I'm not John or anything like that, but I think your explanation was enough to satisfy me, but I am unsure about the rest of the users' intake on the matter. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 00:35, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
John, I've Yes check.svg revised my close of this RfC, to clarify what I meant to and to remove some unnecessary, extraneous commentary. As I stated with regard to global bans, my understanding, based on my discussions with Reception123 in the past, that since there was no global policy with respect to global bans, as well as my discussions with you regarding your close of the global ban request for Sourav Halder, that any RfC to globally ban a user is advisory as that community discussion as the Meta block was noted as a Meta Wiki community ban but the global lock was noted as a self-requested lock in the lock reason. So this seems to have been a misunderstanding on my part with regard to global bans, and I've Yes check.svg taken note of this for the future. As the extraneous and poorly worded commentary, I do agree that much of it was unnecessary and I was rather frazzled and should've best left it for another day to close or for another Steward to close. Dmehus (talk) 02:25, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── @Naleksuh: Well, he's active now. --DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:38, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

And of course, closing more discussions. Thoughts about what to do next? My main question was do you have any issues with their use of Steward tools besides how they close discussions? I've had some concerns over general conduct, though most Steward-specific stuff is old. Naleksuh (talk) 23:57, 19 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What, specifically, are you objecting to in my most recent close? The closure of all the proposals reflects consensus. Dmehus (talk) 00:10, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I believe John was referring to your latest close on the ban against Matttest (which was doomed to fail from the start), and wanted to know your rationale behind the other recent closures you've made so far. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 00:16, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, Naleksuh was talking about closing more in response to your comment on June 19th and Doug was inquiring about that. I'm also wondering what's notable to bring up the most recent closure since we've long heard of the other ones. --Raidarr (talk) 12:37, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm disappointed in the response quite frankly as I think it avoids the issue and it's a logical impossibility based on the issues at testwiki that this close to the decision you could still be confused about policy around community bans. I've got a busy morning so this is the short version of my reply. Longer, more thought out and detailed one will come this evening. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 05:53, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not quite sure how. For greater clarity, I will not overturn a community ban going forward. Based on my conversations with Reception123 and Agent Isai on IRC, they can definitely appreciate, understand, and empathize with the confusion and misunderstandings with respect to global bans, due to the lack of a global policy and how they've been applied/used in the past. We would definitely do well to have a codified policy in this respect, and it's my understanding a policy draft is being developed, with the aim to put it forward for discussion in the near future. That being said, until such policy is developed, not only will I not overturn a community ban, I will also abstain from closing any further community ban discussions. Hi Doug,
As said this morning, I am disappointed in your reply to John’s concern following the disputed RfC closures on TestWiki and MetaWiki.
Your response claims your understanding is the lack of policy but your disputed close was exactly the same on TestWiki. I can not come to the logical conclusion that you made such a similar mistake twice. If you were confused about the policy around community bans, local or global, you should have reached out to discuss this.
Your response suggested that meta admins should have deleted in this case and your corrected response still reminds of this. This would have been wholly inappropriate given the discussion between the two users and at most I would only say we could blank the page so it couldn't be found as easy.
Your response makes no reply to the fact that precedent exists for community action in these cases should the community feel it is appropriate to intervene which is John’s second point.
As to John’s next point on the community advising, this is in every discussion a Steward makes. You've made no response to this point either but I feel you must misunderstand your role. Your job is to take the advice the community gives in its discussions and use that to ensure that the consensus of the community around policy is applied fairly.
You make no reply to the fact that you claimed you wouldn't seek community advice on appeal.
I now move onto your reply in which you still seem to claim at a point Stewards may decide not to take an appeal to a community. You can only do this if it's guaranteed to fail and a waste of time for a community ban.
I feel you have failed to take the issues here into account and you do not see the seriousness of the allegations made. You are actively going against consensus when your role is to enforce it. You have 3 people who are watching you very closely to see if you could lose Steward rights if your conduct does not improve.
I ask you to immediately consider an actual response and explanation beyond you were tired.

A bit late to this party, but here’s my two cents. While Dmehus’ actions are indeed questionable in his wording and closure of the community ban RfC, I have yet to see an instance that would justify the removal of an active steward and community member. Dmehus was wrong in the community ban instance, but that alone does not justify removal, in my opinion, of course. Just my two cents, I hope this all is resolved soon. Thanks - BrandonWM (talkcontribsglobalrights) 19:45, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that alone would not warrant removal, no one is saying it did. The issue is the continued pattern of questionable closes and other misuse of steward permissions (though other things are rather old) Naleksuh (talk) 20:21, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I haven’t been made aware of any prior misuse of access by Dmehus aside from the two closures. Could you elaborate? Thanks - BrandonWM (talkcontribsglobalrights) 21:27, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So uhhh[edit source]

When you get a chance, do you think you can get into one of the CU requests in regards to the reallifevillainswiki from this thread I made a few days ago? It's about Anti villain/Gigdsclasp still continuing to evade bans. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 02:49, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DarkMatterMan4500, Apologies for the delay. Replied on IRC. I will aim to look into the users' contributions more close tomorrow evening. It's very late. I apologize for my period of inactivity in the past week; my sister and my nephews were in town in visiting, and I just couldn't vote any time to Steward duties. Thankfully, the Trust and Safety 'docket' was clear. :) Dmehus (talk) 08:29, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are a good three groups between two on the SN and by email, it'll take a bit of time to chunk through the sets. If Doug has plans for the SN side I'll focus on the email side working back. --Raidarr (talk) 11:18, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Ah, so that explains your disappearance last week. And it's fine if you have family visiting you and whatnot: Speaking of which, just about a couple of weeks ago, I've had some family friends come down from Florida for a week, and I only get to see them once a year, so I took that last Saturday to go up to Salem and spend the day there. The time has come[edit source]

Remember when you suggested that you close the RfC on Qualitipedia Meta to close the websites wikis. Well, a lot of users were getting ansy, and Blazikeye unofficially closed it as disputed temporarily until you came along. However, the proposal seems to have been successful, and he claimed that he would wait for you to give your output. So it is time to officially close the proposal, and give your output as to the final decision. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 16:13, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you delete all of my comments on the Awesome Games Wiki?![edit source]

Once I was blocked from the Awesome Games Wiki you deleted my comments, most likely because of the fact that Radiarr blocked me due to the RFC about banning me from all of the Qualtipedia wikis, where you deleted my comments there, which was extremely nonsensical and almost laughable of you, since you almost didn't delete almost all of blocked users and the facts that you didn't delete any of my comments on the other wikis which I was blocked from (keep in mind I am not saying you should delete all of my comments from the wikis I was blocked from), especially since I could've looked at them on Awesome Games Wiki when I am older and eventually an old man (like the ages 30, 65, and 70). I would love for you to restore all of them there please if it's possible to restore deleted comments of mined. MarioBobFan (talk) 18:38, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
