Hello Miraheze users, As you know, we have a discussion about upgrading to MediaWiki 1.39.1 on Phabricator. (You can find the active discussion on Phabricator here.) when Miraheze is upgraded in the first or second week of January, they will have the right to "give a oversight user group" to Bureaucrats, albeit unintentionally. As you know, to get the oversight user group, you need some community support and you must be over 18 years old. I am against giving the oversight user group by bureaucrats in 1.39.1 because the oversight tool contains personal information. My personal opinion is that we should not give/receive this user group to bureaucrats. Hope the result will be good for Miraheze... Hey Türkiye message? 19:02, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
Proposal 1: Oversight rights will not be granted by Bureaucrats[edit | edit source]
- In MediaWiki 1.39.1, Bureaucrats will not be able to grant Oversight rights to users on the Miraheze wiki.

- @HeyTürkiye: What are you referring to when you say "supervisor"? Perhaps do you mean CheckUser or Oversight? I'm not aware of us granting any new rights to bureaucrats after the update. Agent Isai Talk to me! 19:11, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

- You may not know because we downloaded MediaWiki 1.39.1 and installed it on another server and realized that we were able to grant the oversight rights. That's why I created this offer to protect personal information. Hey Türkiye message? 19:25, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- @HeyTürkiye: MediaWiki has granted bureaucrats the ability to get Oversight rights since version 1.20 so we are aware and have always restricted that. The upgrade to 1.39 won't change anything as we already have it restricted in our config. Agent Isai Talk to me! 19:33, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Agent Isai: Now I need to close this RfC but I just opened this comment request. I still want to get a community's opinion to see if it's on 1.39.1. Thanks for letting me know that it wasn't provided, it would be good for Miraheze to get some community feedback. Best regards Hey Türkiye message? 19:37, 5 January 2023 (UTC)

it isn't. The ability to modify membership to the Oversight and CheckUser groups will remain a Steward/SRE/T&S exclusive ability probably for as long as Miraheze itself exists. OrangeStar (talk) 19:55, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
