Hi administrators, message boxes, navboxes, infoboxes and TemplateStyles message boxes are broken. This is because of a CSS problem. how to fix error?[edit | edit source]

Hello! When I did the Template "Website" I got the error "Error Lua in Module: Wikidata on line 186: attempt to index field 'wikibase' (a nil value)." I think I need to enable the "Wikibase (client)" extension for the template to work. If I think correctly, how can I turn it on? Wiki — frog.miraheze.org Kwack (talk)

Importing page files[edit | edit source]

I am in the process of building my wiki. I have auto generated the pages I want to import. Using special page import file: I would like to import a few to make sure I have everything correct using the import files special page but I don’t know what to enter for the “interwiki prefix”. I have looked at mediawiki documentation but I am unable to decipher what I need. Any suggestions? Major uploading of all files: There are about 2000 files representing the hierarchy that are less than 3k each and the actual page text inside them is about 1k. Is the correct way to make a request through phabricator or is there some way to do this myself? Thanks, Eddie

An import of that size should be done via phab and sysadmins User:RhinosF1 - (Quirc) (chat (on meta))· CA 16:37, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

Znotch190711[edit | edit source]

<copied from Meta:AN> Hello,

I've opened this thread to discuss the actions of Znotch190711.

Firstly, this user has started a number of RfCs recently that they know are likely to fail and have been previously discussed varying from changes to the internal structure of Mirhaeze to CVT. Their latest RfC is a very long page with a number of proposals that even they themselves know are unlikely to pass and oppose.

I have also noticed that this user makes misleading comments as evidenced at their talk page where they claim to have not requested any wikis despite having done so and this discussion where they claim to have nominated me for sysop hypothetically and then deny this part way through which they refused to remove when I blanked it as I decided I did not want to be involved in this and are taking the mick about unaware WMF wiki users.

User:RhinosF1 - (Quirc) (chat (on meta))· CA 15:58, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

<added during move> I proposed this as I can see users easily getting offended if they are made out to be something they are not and discover lies or Znotch refuses to remove them and this ruining Miraheze's reputation User:RhinosF1 - (Quirc) (chat (on meta))· CA 17:47, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

Proposal[edit | edit source]

Znotch190711 is required to remove any mention of users in hypothetical content on https://hypotheticalmeta.miraheze.org if the user requests it.

Discussion[edit | edit source]

@RhinosF1: While this may seem like bureaucray, if I as a Meta admin were to close this request I would not be able to due to the fact that I don't have authority to make a decision for another wiki. Reception123 (talk) (C) 16:38, 12 July 2019 (UTC)
@Reception123: Can you suggest an alternative venue to discuss this? User:RhinosF1 - (Quirc) (chat (on meta))· CA 17:00, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment The truth is that I do not feel comfortable with the actions of Fungter/Znotch190711. I have seen that it is something problematic, with his account "Lego Master" has had problems and has been blocked in some wikis, then has changed account, perhaps to avoid the block. As "Fugster" has vandalized and was blocked again and now it is again changing account, to avoid its block again, because this last time it has tried that the Stewards use oversight to erase their "past actions".

Here in Meta I have seen that several times that the user has tried to propose something rare that would involve a big change to the Miraheze structure, I think he has a fascination for global permissions. Many times he has nominated to other users to occupy voluntary positions, when he does not even know if that user has the capacity, time or desire to occupy the positions. Perhaps it looks for that some user gains its liking, soon to be nominated and to obtain its vote in a future, is the unique explanation that I see to him all this attempt to draw the attention.

Idk, from my point of view I think you should analyze the user's actions and do something about it.--Dark Dragoon (talk) 04:03, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

@RhinosF1:What do you mean by “mentions?” Znotch190711 (Contribs - My wiki - CA) 06:50, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
@Znotch190711: Usage of Thier username or a known alias and the content associated with it. Anything involving them you've got to make not involve them and so it can't be guessed it does. User:RhinosF1 - (Quirc) (chat (on meta))· CA 06:54, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
And maybe you should also consider restricting the creation of wikis related to false or unofficial Miraheze things (I do not know if there is any policy about it already). I do not think it's good that there is a wiki that collects false things from Miraheze, as if it were Meta, or that it uses its appearance within the Services. There are already two wikis that he creates: mirahezefakenews and hypotheticalmeta. If you create this kind of wikis every time a user feels dissatisfied because their ideas were not implemented, we would be filled with wikis such as these, and resources are used to create something that may make Miraheze and her volunteers look bad. In fandom for example it is forbidden to use the appearance of the community central and it is also forbidden to do anything that damages the "fandom" brand. --Dark Dragoon (talk) 07:10, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

# Support as proposer User:RhinosF1 - (Quirc) (chat (on meta))· CA 15:58, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

  1. Support --Dark Dragoon (talk) 04:04, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
  2. Support I don't think the whole idea of the wikis is appropriate, as it could create confusion. If someone would visit one of these wikis they could get the impression that they are the real version. I think that the user should at least have clear indications that the wikis are meant for "satire" or whatever it is for, as to not cause possible confusion. I see on one of the wikis it is claimed that Miraheze has incorporated, which is not true, and is an example of what could cause users to be genuinely confused. Proposal 2[edit | edit source]

hypotheticalmeta and mirahezefakenews should be closed and deleted. Any further requests that could be confused with other existing Miraheze wikis will be declined because they "will hinder other wikis", and any other similar existing public wikis will be suspended if found.

  • Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment One thing I can say for sure is that faking other user's signatures to make the discussions real is going too far. Uncyclopedia is a parody of Wikipedia, but they would not do host such contents. We may ask for a simple removal, but I think these wikis should be closed because they are still confusing with meta even if such contents are removed.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 09:35, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

I have made the wikis private. However, I still think they should be closed and deleted, considering that they have almost the same main pages as meta.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 17:15, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Proposal 3[edit | edit source]

The known alt accounts of User:Znotch190711, LegoMaster, Fungster, and Ofreporter should be locked so that they won't be abused.

  • Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment As there are concerns that other existing accounts may be abused, I think we should lock them so that it won't be abused.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 09:35, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
  • @開拓者: You are actually wrong. Ofreporter was moved to LegoMaster because of compromised account, and I also moved from LegoMaster to Fungster also because of compromised account, in both cases, my email was removed and since at those times I did not have a committed identity I was not able to recover my account. Lock Ofreporter and LegoMaster as possible abuse. So I only chose to change my account once, not three times. Znotch190711 (Contribs - My wiki - CA) 13:07, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
    • The important thing is the fact that you have changed your accounts from time to time several times. Even if the backgrounds behind for each cases are different, it is enough to make me think that you are somewhat untrustworthy.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 13:39, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

String parser functions In templates[edit | edit source]

I want to do string parsing inside a template. I need to replace each space in a string with a plus(+) character. I need to use both the original and the edited string in the template. What string functions (replace specifically) are available in Miraheze by default? What extension do I need if not available by default? Thanks, Eddie

We have mw:Extension:ReplaceText which should be just right for you. You can enable it from Special:Managewiki/extensions of your wiki.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 17:17, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

No, that doesn’t seem to be what I need. I need to replace the spaces in a string passed to the template as a parameter with a plus character. It must be evaluated each time the template is used. I do not need to replace the values through the wiki.

I think one way for it is to have a custom javascript on MediaWiki:common.js of your wiki. The template should have a tag with a spacial id/class name, and all the letter + in the target id/class will be replaced by js automatically.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 17:58, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Sounds like way over kill. And I don’t speak Java; barely managing mediawiki. I need a simple parser function like #replace|instr|searchSrt|ReplaceString

In StringFunctions it says that #replace was merged with ParserFunctions, and that extension is already enabled by default. --Dark Dragoon (talk) 18:27, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
The merged functions seem to be disabled on Miraheze. One other way is to import mw:Module:String.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 18:34, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
The setting to enable it can be managed through Special:ManageWiki/settings as "Enable string function functionality". -- Void Whispers 19:50, 13 July 2019 (UTC) Sorry I’m being so slow. I am an extreme newbie. I found the Special:ManageWiki page but don’t see where to select the setting mentioned.
Also, how are y’all getting your signature attached and getting the text to indent?
And, Does mw:Module:String means importing the module from the main MetaWiki site? I’m not clear on how that is done either. I am looking through the documentation for answers to these but am able to interpret very little.
@Lifelonglearner: Here is the option in ManageWiki. For signature, see Help:Signatures and for indent see Help:Formatting. The module thing is unnecesary i think. --Dark Dragoon (talk) 21:48, 13 July 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, after seeing Void's comment, I think enabling string parser functions from Special:ManageWiki/settings of your wiki, which can be accessed from "Manage this wiki's additional settings" on the sidebar is the best way. "Enable string function functionality" is on the "Edit" tab of that page. Check it, go to the "Submit" tab, enter a brief summary and submit it to make the change valid. For more details on managewiki as a whole, you can see ManageWiki. For signatures, type ~~~~ / --~~~~, and for indents, add colons on the head of the lines. One colon will add one indent.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 02:11, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Semantic MediaWiki[edit | edit source]

I know that this has been discussed multiple times before, but with the Referata wiki farm essentially gone (it's no longer hacked, but it's uptime is extremely inconsistent and there appear to be frequent DOS attacks targeting the site), would it be reasonable to consider Semantic MediaWiki for Miraheze? Referata was the largest wiki provider that I know of that supported SMW, and since it appears that Referata may be ready to go end-of-life, I think it would be nice for another stable wiki farm to support SMW. While I personally don't use SMW, I know people who do, and for some projects and goals, it is a very important feature. I'm not sure why we currently do not support it, and if there is anything on the technical side that needs to be done, I may be able to help (I'm an IT professional, after all).
