Need to attach my accounts[edit | edit source]

I currently have a second account on the wiki that according to my account manager is not attached to the global account. Can someone help me into doing it? Is the problem because that account was made when that wiki was on a different server than Miraheze? -Phantom Dusclops'92 (talk) 21:57, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

@Phantom Dusclops: That could well be a problem, as Miraheze has global accounts that apply across individual wikis. Users imported from another server are not attached to your other account here. The best solution is to settle on a single Miraheze identity, and write sufficient documentation to tell Nonciclopedians you are the same person. Spıke (talk)23:24 6-Mar-2019
Looks like someone didn't document this, but it's already been fixed. -- Void Whispers 00:28, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Development of Structured Wikiquote[edit | edit source]

It’s been a long time since a multilingual, Wikibase-based version of Wikiquote has been proposed and supported Meta-Wikimedia but it seems the Wikimedia Foundation & Wikimedia Deutchland don’t care (they don’t care much of anything else than WPedia, commons & WData). Could Miraheze host it & would it be any interrested developpers ?

Thank you — CreativeC (talk) 21:07, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

@CreativeC: Yes, (as long as they respect our policies) any wiki is welcome at Miraheze! Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:59, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
@Reception123: Thank you. Now to find motivated devs -- CreativeC (talk) 19:10, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
But could Miraheze accept regular updates of the Structured Quote extension (even a restricted FTP access to the specific wiki ?) ? -- CreativeC (talk) 19:13, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
I don't understand this, as the real Wikiquote is working well, and some of its pages are multilingual. I am not a contributor but an occasional reader, but how would you motivate developers to begin work on the same thing with a different underlying design (perhaps more "structured" than the original?) Spıke (talk)23:22 6-Mar-2019
@Spike the Dog: Wikiquote can’t be used as a database and thus reused by other website. Also Wikiquote isn’t a multilingual-wiki; meaning that you have to re create a page of an author dozens of time to translate the same quotes + it slows the work as communities don’t meet others so much. Also WikiquoteS aren’t really known, so maybe merging it into a single community will make it famous —CreativeC (talk) 21:18, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Adding/installing custom fonts[edit | edit source]

How do you go about installing custom fonts? I only need to use a handwriting style font in a template. I don't want to change the font for the whole site. The font in question is called charm and is available on google fonts. Thanks. Borderman (Talk) 09:28, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

I think I've done it, just not sure if it's the correct way. I added the following to the beginning of commons.css @import url(""); and then set the font-family in the template, which eventually changed the selected text to the desired font. For future references, is there another way of doing this or is the easiest way. Borderman (Talk) 13:21, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure that's the easiest way to do it, as it's what I would have suggested doing. -- Void Whispers 17:08, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
That is more than I knew about invoking them. Regarding not changing the font for the whole site, this will happen automatically; you have to specify style to get it to be used. Either a new rule in MediaWiki:Common.css (and the rule can state which picture elements it applies to); or in an individual picture element. Spıke (talk)21:48 7-Mar-2019

Problem with the queue, again.[edit | edit source]

(Originally under the original problem discussion thread but decided it was better to post here)

The problem with the queue being filled with wikis has resurfaced, 9 wikis are in the queue to either be declined or accepted. Please take a look at this when you can. JoeBee James (talk) 17:40, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Dormancy policy exemption[edit | edit source]

Not sure if this is the right place but @John: told me to request on Meta.

Please exempt my wiki - from the global dormancy policy so that no inactivity remedies will be taken against it.

Please see for more information. Amanda Catherine (talk) 02:25, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

@Amanda Catherine: Usually they are done on Stewards' noticeboard but I guess this is fine. As for the exemption itself, the issue I see is that there is not enough content on the wiki to justify an exemption for "Wikis made to be read, where a lot of information is already on wiki and doesn't need to be actively edited." While weatherwiki has many pages regarding policy, there are only 4 actual content pages (including the Main Page). I would like someone else's opinion on this, but I would be inclined not to accept the exemption because of this reason. Reception123 (talk) (C) 07:29, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
I was under the impression that “founder request” was a valid reason for an exemption. But if it isn’t anymore, fine, just please don’t close/delete/whatever the wiki without emailing me per what I linked to above. Amanda Catherine (talk) 21:06, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
Just a passing comment but Miraheze doesn’t recognise “founders” but communities. John (talk) 21:47, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
I'm sorry about the intrusion, but I'm taking advantage of it. Reception123, John. In my Ucroniaswiki wiki, I am working on content articles in the Taller and Lista namespaces rather than in the main space for various reasons: Articles should be complete before moving them to the main space and that for the moment, the article counter does not count them until they are finished.
If in the future, my wiki has more than 100 articles with content in the Taller and Lista namespaces and none in the main space. Can't you still ask for an exception? Ucronistaw (talk) 19:27, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Twitter cards[edit | edit source]

A "Twitter card" is code in a web page that lets Twitter display a graphic inside a tweet that cites the web page. The code consists of several META tags in the HEAD of the web page, whereas stuff we code inside an edit window goes into the BODY of the web page. I could write JavaScript in my website's MediaWiki:Common.js to move it, just before the page is rendered. But it's not clear that the Twitterbot renders the page at all. Has anyone already completed this exercise and can you offer advice or examples? Spıke (talk)17:06 10-Mar-2019

You're making this harder than it needs to be, just install and extension to do it for you.

@El Komodos Drago: It's a deal! Which one, please? Spıke (talk)10:49 15-Mar-2019

Meta:Requests for permissions[edit | edit source]

I have requested rights like 5 days ago. Can anybody vote? LegoMaster (talk - contribs - logs - uploads - global contribs) 10:21, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

Need three special pages for my wiki[edit | edit source]

This wiki needs three special pages. They are Special:CreateBlogPosts, Special:NewestBlogPosts and Special:Chat. The three special pages are similar to this wiki's three special pages. I don't know what it has to do with Phabricator. LegoMaster (talk - contribs - logs - uploads - global contribs) 10:41, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

If you go to Special:ManageWikiExtensions and enable SocialProfile, Comments, VoteNY, and MediaWikiChat then enable BlogPage then you will get Special:Chat, Special:CreateBlogPost, and hopefully Special:NewestBlogPosts.

Wikia Uncyclopedia[edit | edit source]

In response to Wikia's decision to cease hosting the original Uncyclopedia, editors are now voting among four new candidates for a new home. I advocated Miraheze but this got no traction (Uncyclopedia Admins apparently wanting an anxious sales pitch from Miraheze Stewards) until The Pioneer followed up. In the voting discussion, the current site notice stating that capacity is low and "updates will fail" has been cited as a reason not to choose Miraheze; also the deteriorating state of finances. Spıke (talk)10:49 15-Mar-2019

@Spike the Dog: Well, unless people donate there is nothing we can do, we are a non-profit and that is how this whole site lives, from donations. Where is the discussion page? Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:53, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
Found it! Will comment. Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:57, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
Yes, thanks for doing so, and for clearing up misperceptions. There are people in that discussion from the other three candidate webhosts actively advocating for themselves. Spıke (talk)17:14 16-Mar-2019

I've asked some questions relating to this here on Talk:Miraheze. I should probably have posted them on this noticeboard instead. Flyingcat (talk) 23:56, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

Probably Stewards' noticeboard, as it is more for wikifarm management than for the community. Spıke (talk)00:53 17-Mar-2019

How to be an admin?[edit | edit source]

I just created the miraheze version of Tolololpedia ( because there is someone that said all uncyclopedias including Tolololpedia will be closed. Some uncyclopedia has moved into miraheze like the chinese and russian uncyclopedia. I'm an admin on the wiki, but not on the miraheze. So i can export, but i can't import. How to ba an admin? --Pradiptamf (talk) 13:41, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

@Pradiptamf: You must request adminship on the wiki itself. Reception123 (talk) (C) 05:53, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
But he "just created" this wiki! Our FAQ says, "your user name will be designated the wiki's bureaucrat. (This is a wiki administrator with the power to appoint other users as administrators, and to depose them.)" Did something go wrong in this case? Spıke (talk)17:18 16-Mar-2019
It seems another user "Mesincuciuddin" created the wiki. See Special:RequestWikiQueue/7488. Flyingcat (talk) 23:12, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
That solves that nicely! So log back in as "Mesincuciuddin" and make "Pradiptamf" an Admin. Spıke (talk)00:53 17-Mar-2019
@Reception123: Mesincuciuddin is an admin in the wikia version of Tolololpedia just like me but Mesincuciuddin is currently inactive. And how do i log back in as him? I'm a different guy. --Pradiptamf (talk) 01:48, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
"Inactive" like in the morgue?! No one here knows what you were on some other website (nor even who you were!). If Mes "just" created a wiki here and then went "inactive," and if you are a different guy, I do think you must petition to adopt it. Spıke (talk)00:44 22-Mar-2019

Deletion of a wiki to save database[edit | edit source]

I have been looking around the Help Center to find what to do, but I couldn't find any proper direction. There is this wiki of mine I don't need anymore, but it has many .png's uploaded. To save space in the storage, I can request a deletion of that one. (Metrocka (talk) 09:45, 16 March 2019 (UTC))

Hi, you can request it on Paladox (talk) 17:41, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

can not upload files[edit | edit source]

If you upload a file withメインページ, an error will occur. Thank you for your response.--ウソつき (talk) 07:49, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Apparently, upload storage seems to be lacking. This is inevitable. I would like to increase upload storage if possible--ウソつき (talk) 07:54, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
Hey, we are trying to fix it. See phab:T4197 for more details. It looks like, though, we had a temporary fix by changing the limitation.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 21:41, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

I want to help Miraheze financially[edit | edit source]

I want to help Miraheze financially because for me it deserves it (I think that it is a good service), however I do not have much money. However, an idea has occurred to me: create a campaign in Patreon. The objective of this campaign is, in addition to obtaining money and donating a percentage to Miraheze, to encourage the administrators of my wiki to do more and better content. This will be convenient to Miraheze, since more quality articles have, the better known my wiki will be, and therefore, the better known Miraheze will be. Do you agree with my proposal? - PaladinDeGigantas (talk) 16:30, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
