How much storage space does Miraheze have?

Well, My wiki[1], Crazybloxian Empire, could get large pretty soon. How much storage space does the wiki-hosting service have?

Users can't register because their accounts were already created during wiki import

After importing our wiki from Wikia to https://nonciclopedia.org, in Phabricator task T3756#72940, @Paladox: wrote:

“[...] i went ahead and created all the users accounts to prevent the problem in the future. (if any of your users turn up and find they cannot create there account) please ask them to create a phab task (and also comment on it that you confirm it is the user please))”

If I understand correctly, old users should create an account on Phabricator, then learn how to open a task, then I should comment there and finally... I don't know, really.
Isn't there a simpler way to let users get their accounts back? Maybe they could register a temporary account on our wiki and then the staff could merge it with the old one? Is there anything I can do as a admin/sysop? I'm asking because I don't expect them to register on Phabricator just to create a single task, probably we will lose users in the process.
At least, I'd like to know how what Paladox said would work exactly, at least I could tell the users.--Wedhro (talk) 17:35, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi, yes, though old users can email staff@miraheze.org since phabricator requires a account on meta. Paladox (talk) 20:01, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
Would you please elaborate: which steps should be followed by users wanting their account back, exactly? Maybe I could email the staff in order to guarantee it's actually them, but what about passwords, email addresses and other things that are supposed to be private?--Wedhro (talk) 20:49, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

@Paladox: Hi, we're still waiting for an answer: how do users get back their old accounts? Also, IIRC it was once possible to merge users but I don't see Extension:UserMerge in the extension list and there's no special page dedicated to that option; was it removed? It would solve our problems because users could just create a new temporary account and then I could merge it with the old one.--Wedhro (talk) 10:55, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi, as I said they can email staff@miraheze.org or they can create a new account and we can globally rename the account. We doint have UserMerge installed because that’s for local accounts, not global accounts. you can request a global rename at https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:GlobalRenameRequest Paladox (talk) 13:00, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
I know but it's not clear how it works with emails: if someone emails you they want an account back, how do they prove it's actually them? I don't want to give this opportunity to malicious users (we get lot of vandalisms).--Wedhro (talk) 14:56, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

How to make a wiki only editable for approved users?

Hi,

very new to Miraheze and already seen so much stuff, but still somewhat unsure about things ...

To be clear: 1. I'd like it possible for anybody to see the wiki contents 2. but editing should bve restricted to approved by some admin person

Would you please point me to the correct info for this?

Thx

  /Arie

ArievW (talk) 16:58, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

@ArievW: You can use Special:ManageWikiPermissions on your wiki, create a group called "editor" and then assign the edit permission to it. Then, you select the "*" group and revoke 'read' and same for "user". If you need help with this or prefer that I do it please let me know. Reception123 (talk) (C) 06:57, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

Any tips on search engine optimization?

Is there anything we can do to raise our site in Google results? We migrated from an older Mediawiki installation at a different URL, and if I search for a topic, the older page https://wiki.electorama.com is the first Google result, but electowiki.org isn't on the first 5 results pages at all. Psephomancy (talk) 22:45, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Maybe making the old wiki a redirect to the new wiki will work. Though it could take some time.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 01:31, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
@Psephomancy: As The Pioneer says, it does take some time, but you can try to make it quicker by doing what is described here. Reception123 (talk) (C) 15:13, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
User:Reception123, I added it to SearchConsole and it says the pages are excluded from Google: "Duplicate, submitted URL not selected as canonical Status: Excluded". Not sure what that means, and it doesn't list what it thinks the canonical URL is. It says it will scan the site within a few days so I guess I will find out then. Psephomancy (talk) 16:01, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

@Reception123: I've posted more details here: https://electowiki.org/wiki/Electowiki:The_caucus#Search_Engine_Optimization Psephomancy (talk) 16:01, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Okay, I will ask the other sysadmins what they think as well. Reception123 (talk) (C) 17:24, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

upload content of existing wiki

We have a wiki http://www.ist.tugraz.at/isac/ with about 60 pages and want to upload the content. Since we have many links from somewhere else to this wiki, we want the content in Miraheze as close as possible to the present wiki.

On Miraheze's pages we could not find an information, whether upload of whole wikis is supported by Miraheze. So we ask here (and hope that we only have to send a file of 380 kB starting with the line "<mediawiki xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.mediawiki.org/xml/export-0.3/ http://www.mediawiki.org/xml/export-0.3.xsd" version="0.3" xml:lang="en">" to the Stewards' noticeboard. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wneuper (talkcontribs)

@Wneuper: Yes, it is possible to import a wiki. Please upload the XML file on Phabricator or if the wiki is private, send it to staff[at]miraheze[dot]org Reception123 (talk) (C) 11:47, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Create Wiki going wrong?

I found out that the requesters of wikis from my environment has all changed to Hearth to Matilda for an unknown reason. I think something is going wrong with Special:RequestWiki or Special:CreateWiki. I'll leave a note here because I wonder if other wiki creators have the same issue.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 12:48, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

The problem seems to be fixed.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 13:36, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
Wait, it still isn't in some older request. I guess I need to manually fix them for now.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 13:50, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
What wikis are affected, and what's wrong with them? -- Void Whispers 02:49, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
We've fixed it on the created wikis, I'm currently going through already done wiki requests to see what's wrong. -- Void Whispers 03:22, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
Should now be resolved, let us know immediately if something like this happens again. -- Void Whispers 04:35, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
OK. Thanks for fixing everything.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 11:57, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Please add six interwiki links to my wiki (mahuset.miraheze.org).

Hello,

My wiki (the Royal Wiki, mahuset.miraheze.org) covers a subject which would be easier for me to cover if the following six interwiki links were added:

  • konmalehth:, redirecting to konmalehth.miraheze.org
  • pavlov:, redirecting to pavlov.miraheze.org
  • hasanistan:, redirecting to hasanistan.miraheze.org
  • microwiki:, redirecting to micronations.wiki
  • mnf:, redirecting to micronations.wikia.com
  • mfe:, redirecting to mahuset.wikia.com

These wikis all cover material similar in nature to that of my wiki, and it'd be incredibly convenient not to have a seperate article on each different wiki. --Oxocero (talk) 21:16, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

OK, now it's Yes check.svg Done--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs | global🌎) 12:10, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Use of Global User Page

Hi, to all users who are currently using the Global User Page feature, please be advised that the wiki where the user page is based has been changed. The new wiki is loginwiki (login.miraheze.org). This means that if you were previously using a global user page, your user page should now be copied over to loginwiki. If you have any questions, let me know. -- Void Whispers 04:41, 3 January 2019 (UTC)

Template Navbox show/hide won't appear

I know this has been discussed before, but I cannot see to make Template:Navbox work on my wiki. I've copied so many Lua files, Common.js and Common.css, and reloaded the cache til I'm blue in the face. Would anyone being willing to take a look? Unlike previous users' problems, I can't seem to get it to get started at all: the show/hide box has never appeared for me. I am willing to scrap everything and reimport anything you say! --Aquatiki (talk) 03:01, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

Template:Navbox is based on collapsible tables. I've added the JS to your Common.js that handles allows such tables to function. -- Void Whispers 21:29, 4 January 2019 (UTC)
I am filled with undying love and admiration!!!! 😍🙌🏽🤓👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨💓👍 Thank you!!! --Aquatiki (talk) 02:44, 5 January 2019 (UTC) P.S. Where did you get it from?

Wiki's logo (File:Wiki.png) won't update

I always have a hard time adding a new version of the nonciclopedia's logo; even if the upload is successful and the new version appears in the history, the file stays on the previous version for days or forever. Purging the page won't help. Attempting to reupload the file fails, I'm told that version already exist, and checking the options to ignore system errors and such fails too.
If you check the file's history you'll see there's a few differences between the 21 dic 2018 and 2 gen 2019 versions (the title doesn't overlap with the logo and the wiki-sphere is slightly different) and you can see those differences in the history thumbnails, but if you click on the last version you're taken to the previous version. Also, in Special:ManageWikiSettings I can't link to the newest version for the same reason: the link to the new version is https://static.miraheze.org/nonciclopediawiki/b/bc/Wiki.png, exactly the same as the link I previously set, and it leads to the old version. There's maybe an issue with caching? --Wedhro (talk) 03:49, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi, is this still an issue? It could just be your local browser cache not updating as well. -- Void Whispers 22:04, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
@Void: After 3-4 days the issue if finally gone. Today I uploaded a new version of a different files and, again, it was stuck on the previous version, this time only for a dozen hours. This never happens on Fandom using the same browser, so it's probably on Miraheze's servers.--Wedhro (talk) 22:35, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Looking to hire someone to customize Miraheze main page

Would anyone here be interested in some *paid* work to customize the main page of my Miraheze wiki? I’m hoping for a three column layout with three icons which are links.

Here is a diagram showing what I want (assuming it's possible): [1]. Link to site: [2]

You can contact me at librarylexique@gmail.com.

Here are examples of two Miraheze wikis with two column layouts. I couldn’t find one with three columns.

Global Interwiki feature

Hi folks, you can now link to any wiki on Miraheze by using a link in the format of [[mh:wiki:Page]]. This will generate a link to wiki.miraheze.org/wiki/Page. For example: [[mh:test:Test]] will display as Test, and [[mh:login:User:Void]] will show User:Void. There are a couple of caveats to this however, as these links only work on a page. You cannot use the prefix to search for a page on another wiki (which is possible with standard interwiki prefixes). These links will override any existing interwiki link that uses mh as its prefix. If this is a problem for you, please let us know so we can adjust it for you. If you have any questions or encounter any issues, please leave them below! -- Void Whispers 22:00, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Extra CSS background image

Hey there people from Miraheze which I need a special request or help for the extra background image in my common.css of the PlayStation All-Stars Database which I was making the image for User header at the top right, here is what it look like. (this was created in Paint.NET for the concept)

I've tried to combined and shared the image with body CSS along with the background, but it wasn't work. Here's the code of this.
background: url(https://static.miraheze.org/playstationallstarswiki/d/d8/User_header.png) no-repeat top right scroll;
