Welcomer UserRight Vote

After a set amount of welcomes, there should be an extension called Mass Welcome, where in the user list, they can select how many people to welcome, but the extension can only be accessed by Welcomer and higher.

Additional Comments

  • WikiJS I have no idea what you are proposing here. Are you proposing for a new extension to be developed and installed, or are you proposing for an existing extension be enabled on Meta or on all Miraheze wikis be default? Secondarily, what is your aim here? This seems like more of a question or an idea, rather than a formal proposal, which would be best incubated as a subpage of your userspace. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 19:12, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm proposing for a new extension to be developed and installed for Meta. And yeah, I see what you're saying, I made the vote in a rush, even though it was more of an idea. WikiJS 00:33, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
WikiJS Yeah, this sort of thing doesn't really need a discussion, at least not the development of an extension; for enabling mass welcoming system user extension on this wiki, yeah, that part would need a discussion to be enabled. However, without an extension developed, this is a bit like put the cart before the (proverbial) horse. I'd recommend instead reaching out to Universal Omega on his user talk page and see if he could develop this extension for you. Be sure to list exactly and specifically what features your extension would require and how an existing welcoming extension, such as either of the HAWelcome or NewUserMessage extensions, would not serve your needs. You would also want to clearly specify which wiki(s) you'd want to enable it on (not counting Meta Wiki, since that'd need a separate discussion). As to potentially enabling such an extension on Meta Wiki, my personal view is this isn't really needed and wouldn't be helpful, principally because accounts are often auto-created on Meta just like they're auto-created on Loginwiki, many of which end up being spam only accounts (among other things). Plus, it's also a bit "spammy," if I'm being honest. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 01:34, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

We made a consensus about the interwiki at meta unitedwiki:総合談論室#Unitedwikiの総合方針について#0.議論の前に. Wikilexicon(wl), WikiDemocracy(wd),Worldtrainwiki(wt) and MilitaryWiki(mw), is under the banner of “meta unitedwiki”(meta united), so we want to interwiki between these six sites including “meta unitedwiki”.

Exlinkwiki has been closed, so I think you can ignore this wiki. --令和少年 (talk) 06:37, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

@令和少年: Hello, I unfortunately do not know Japanese. Could you please clarify which wikis the interwiki prefixes should be added to? Or should we add them to all four wikis (I cannot see the sixth one and am excluding Exlinkwiki as requested by you)? R4356th 3,263 Local Contributions Logged Actions Rights CentralAuth (talk) 13:44, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
Also, I moved this thread here from SN per the policy. R4356th 3,263 Local Contributions Logged Actions Rights CentralAuth (talk) 13:46, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
@R4356th: I appreciate your help. I ain't good at English very much, so I may be impossible to comply with your requests entirely. By the way, we want to set the prefixes like following.
It takes time to make a diagram, so I wrote simply. (If I have a mind to make diagrams really, probably, I'm possible)
meta unitedwiki→meta united
We would like to interwiki between five wikis above.--令和少年 (talk) 15:37, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
令和少年 That's perfect, and makes sense. We'd assume you want those on all wikis, except for the one about the current wiki where being added. One more question. Do any of them require the "forward" or "transclude" flags? And finally, "meta united" contains a space, which may or may not be possible. Would "metaunited" be alright? Dmehus (talk) 15:40, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
@令和少年: I do not believe there can be spaces in interwiki prefixes. Is it a problem if I remove the space between meta and united in "meta united"? R4356th 3,263 Local Contributions Logged Actions Rights CentralAuth (talk) 15:42, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
@R4356th: Thank you for your quick response. foward and transclusion...I don't know these things in detail, but we'd like to interwiki like between wikipedia and wiktionary.--令和少年 (talk) 15:47, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
@令和少年: Transclusion will allow you to show content from another wiki without copying it. You could see Wikipedia's policy on this to better understand what it is and how it works. And forward is helpful for robots and if you would like to be able to go to other wikis using Special:Search. I am adding the links without the flags for now. I would be happy to add them for you later. :) R4356th 3,263 Local Contributions Logged Actions Rights CentralAuth (talk) 16:41, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

How can I add a category on the majority of pages of a site, but also with specific exceptions?

I wanted to add a category to the majority of pages on my site that are in the 'Main' namespace, but if a page already had another specific category on it, I wanted it to be skipped. I'm not sure how I can do that, I was pointed towards AutoWikiBrowser, but I'm not sure how to use it to do this. Here's where I describe this with a bit more detail: Thermometer (talk) 06:01, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Thermometer Hi, let me see if I can help you out. I saw that they pointed you towards AutoWikiBrowser, which would definitely carry out your task, but requires download, it looks like. That link I gave you has more information about the extension. Another thing that could work (though probably not as well) is the MassEditRegex (Mass Edit using Regular Expressions) extension, which could allow you to mass add the category you want to a range of pages. The only downside to using MER is that you would have to manually type in page names, page name prefixes, category names, or backlinks, and manually separate the pages you want added to from the ones in those categories you mentioned in the Phabricator task. If you're looking for automated, though, AutoWikiBrowser (the first link) can help. I'm not an expert, so if anyone else has better advice, please contradict me. Hope this helps you! Turtle84375 (talk) 07:17, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
@Thermometer: You could do this in Lua, but this would require the extension CategoryToolbox which is not (yet) available on Miraheze, LilyLilyu - smile.svg (Lilypond Wiki · talk to me · little garden · my wiki of everything) 08:14, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Questions on adding Wiki skin extensions

I'm just wondering if I were to make a custom wiki skin specificity made for my wiki and I asked if it could be added to my wiki and my wiki only would you? I'm asking this because I am thinking about making a custom wiki skin for my wiki The Official Spirits of Argonoth Wiki, but I don't want to spend time on it without knowing if it would even be worth it. Sirlance3000 (talk) 04:39, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Sirlance3000 Thank you for the question, which I've procedurally moved from stewards' noticeboard to here where other community members can assist you with your question. Dmehus (talk) 14:38, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello Goodnight.

I created a theme for mobile, for the skin (MinervaNeue) specifically, therefore, when placing the skin in MediaWiki: Minerva.css, or even MediaWiki: Mobile.css, the skin does not appear. What should I do to make her appear. UTC-3 Xaosk (talk) 02:55, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Please note I have procedurally moved this discussion from stewards' noticeboard to community noticeboard, where it is now in scope. Please note that questions regarding building your wiki should be asked at community noticeboard, whereas technical requests outside of the ability of local bureaucrats, or where local bureaucrats are not active on a given wiki, should be asked at stewards' noticeboard. Confirmed or likely bug reports or requests to run a maintenance script or perform some other back-end (i.e., database) change are asked on Phabricator. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 13:36, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
@Xaosk It's probably not working due to phab:T6362. A workaround you could do is use Gadgets to create a CSS gadget that just contains:
@import url(/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Mobile.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css);
Then add the following to your MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition (the example uses MediaWiki:Gadget-TempMobileCssFix.css as the name of the gadget):
* TempMobileCssFix[ResourceLoader|default|hidden|targets=mobile]|TempMobileCssFix.css K599 (talk) 00:19, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Shaunak Chakraborty Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this what Interwiki is for? If so, I think you would need to put both wikis on the same Interwiki table, which I believe requires the Interwiki Administrator permission. Turtle84375 (talk) 07:46, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Ugochimobi Thank you for posting this problem, for which I'm pleased to provide you with a solution. This is almost always related to a cookie issue, so what you have to do is this...
  1. Delete all your cookies for * and any Miraheze wikis to which you attached your account that had a custom domain (i.e. or
  2. Open the private browsing mode of your web browser and login at Special:UserLogin, then, in the same window, go to Special:UserLogout
  3. Open the regular browsing mode of your web browser, delete your cookies for * (and any custom domains again) and try and login (on Meta and on a wiki with a custom domain).
Let me know if that resolves it Dmehus (talk) 22:02, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
Regarding the link you provided, I believe there is a typo in that domain as does not resolve. Dmehus (talk) 22:06, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus: It looks like they meant instead. Joritochip (talk) 23:42, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
Joritochip Yeah, that's what I suspected. So, yeah, Ugochimobi, make sure you, and anyone else encountering this problem, delete your cookies for your custom domain. Dmehus (talk) 23:49, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
Many thanks to @Dmehus and @Joritochip. It worked perfectly. I think this should be anounced globally, In a case where any other person from any wiki on Miraheze faces this exact issue of related, So they can know the simple solution. Ugochimobi (talk) 17:08, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
Ugochimobi Yes check.svg No problem at all. With regard to your suggestion, we did actually have a central notice last fall when we made the cookie configuration change, and publicized multiple announcements on IRC (in #miraheze connect) and on Discord. Most of the login issues have thus been resolved, but we do still see occasional issues. In fact, my instructions above are copied from my pinned message in the #general channel on Discord. Perhaps, though, since we do still get rare issues of this still occurring (presumably from users needing to delete their old cookies), we could add those instructions (or some modification of them) as a FAQ question, to which we could easily refer users to? Dmehus (talk) 17:28, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
Exactly Dmehus. Thanks once more. Ugochimobi (talk) 19:59, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

The images from Wikimedia Commons cannot be displayed in Chinese mainland

Yesterday, I found that some images couldnot be displayed normally and they were all Wikimedia Commons' images. I could only see the alt of the image. For example, now I cannot see the image File:Emblem-important.svg in the edit notice. other users in Chinese mainland in my Wiki, too.

The following is my questions and ideas:

  1. Is there any way to change the url of Wikimedia Commons? Use mirror sites' url to replace the url of Wikimedia Commons( It might be a JS, or it might be a configuration item in LocalSittings.php .
  2. Can Miraheze upload the image from Wikimedia Commons in common use to display them for users in Chinese mainland? is much more stable than Wikimedia commons in Chinese mainland!
  3. If the preceding both cannot realize, I have to upload all the images from Wikimedia Commons in use to my Wiki.

--开炸弹车 (talk) 23:30, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

开炸弹车 Interesting—thank you for raising this issue. I'm not certain whether option #1 would be feasible. We could certainly host mirror versions of common template image icons and such on Miraheze Commons. Do you have an estimate on how many images that might be? You'd just need to make sure you provide appropriate attribution and licensing information for each image/icon you upload to Miraheze Commons. Alternatively, if you and other Chinese wikis share images, you could set up a special purpose shared image repository wiki for your group of wikis to use, and set your Special:Upload URL to point to your special purpose shared image repository wiki. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:24, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus Talk templates, tip templates and some others, about 40. --开炸弹车 (talk) 00:50, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
开炸弹车 Okay, maybe start with about the first 10 images, adding the image summary attribution and licensing information. Once we've reviewed those images, I'll grant you autopatrolled on Miraheze Commons so you can finish with the remainder. To be clear, these are just the images/icons for the templates, not the templates themselves, right? If the latter, the templates themselves can be hosted on Miraheze Template Wiki. Dmehus (talk) 01:03, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus Yes, these are only images/icons. --开炸弹车 (talk) 02:36, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

How do i get InternetArchiveBot please?? Ugochimobi (talk) 13:48, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
InternetArchiveBot is a separate bot, which performs a separate function, which is to rescue cited sources (i.e., dead links) by replacing them with links from the Internet Archive. If you want that on your wiki as well, Cyberpower678 operates that, and you should be able to request it from him. Dmehus (talk) 14:11, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Request for Interwiki table configuration

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Okay @Dmehus, it hasn't reflected though but can this interwiki especially 'f' be global? Ugochimobi (talk) 00:30, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Ugochimobi In keeping with Miraheze's commitment to have as much local control and discretion on each wiki, interwiki prefixes are added locally to each wiki's interwiki table. Thus, the changes are are already effected on Famepedia's interwiki table and Famedata's interwiki table. The global interwiki table is held on Meta Wiki at Special:Interwiki and is mainly used for interwiki prefixes used by many wikis or because they share a common pan-Miraheze purpose. As it would become quite bloated rather quickly, we instead created MirahezeMagic pseudo-interwiki prefixes, which are formatted in the format of optional displayed text. They even work in log actions now, thanks to Universal Omega's recent enhancements! The only things you cannot do is transclude them or use them for locally assigning imported edits, but that's why we can add interwiki prefixes to your wiki. Dmehus (talk) 00:42, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks man! Ugochimobi (talk) 00:49, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Ugochimobi No problem at all. You may be interested to know that you can manage interwiki prefixes on your locally, if you wish. To do this, all you need to do is hold a local election on each wiki where requesting interwiki-admin and, provided you meet the global policy requirements for local interwiki administrators, can then request Stewards assess your local election after at least 5-7 calendar days. This is generally only required, though, if you expect to regularly add local interwiki or interlanguage prefixes to your wiki(s), but it is nonetheless an option available to you. Alright, then I could file a task on Phabricator if MarioMario456 can't figure it out either. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:41, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Also, I keep receiving this error: "[6cca2fbcde71c63e07b6ce79] Caught exception of type Flow\Exception\NoParserException". DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:42, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
DarkMatterMan4500 Yep, I've just tested it and got [229cb5c7b5fedfde050d0cc8] Caught exception of type Flow\Exception\NoParserException. I wonder if this is related to Universal Omega's fix allowing the flow-board content model in Special:ManageWiki/namespaces? In any case, please create a Phabricator ticket, tasked as priority high. Dmehus (talk) 15:44, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Dmehus Just Yes check.svg filed it on Phabricator. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:51, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Please read my comment on this task. This is an upstream bug. R4356th 3,263 Local Contributions Logged Actions Rights CentralAuth (talk) 15:52, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
R4356th Oh, I had no idea he filed it before me. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:53, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
I'm not sure if it's related to that upstream bug you linked to, though, as then other wikis' StructuredDiscussions talk pages would not be working. This is a new wiki, so could be related to a local Miraheze configuration issue. In any case, I feel this needs a full local stack trace and investigation. Dmehus (talk) 15:57, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Images not displaying for FAMEPedia

Uploaded images are no longer displaying on famepedia. Even images from Miraheze Commons and Wikimedia Commons.
Take a look at my userpage for an example HERE
How can this be sorted out Ugochimobi (talk) 15:55, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Ugochimobi This looks like you've uploaded the images to your Famepedia wiki; however, I do see they're not loading. I wonder if this is a bug related to Reception123's mounting change to our file server? Could you please file a Phabricator task? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 16:01, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
You already helped me file it here Thanks.
I really hope it should be resolved Ugochimobi (talk) 16:24, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus It hasn't been resolved yet😫 Ugochimobi (talk) 20:07, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Ugochimobi Not to worry, RhinosF1 has taken ownership of the task and did say, in #miraheze-sre connect on IRC that he expected to be able complete it within several hours (so, presumably, before his sleep time tonight). Dmehus (talk) 20:12, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Okay Dmehus thanks man. Ugochimobi (talk) 20:18, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Importing Wiki Pages From FANDOM

I would like to ask how to import pages from FANDOM into pages on this wiki. BookFandumb1 (talk) 22:12, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

BookFandumb1 I assume you mean your wiki, as this is Meta Wiki, the central coordination wiki for Miraheze. To import pages, you can do this in Special:Export on the Fandom wiki, download the XML dump, then in Special:Import on your wiki, select your XML file, locally assign edits where applicable, and enter wikia:fandomsubdomain in the interwiki prefix field, where subdomain equals You may wish to export and import only one revision from each page, provided you include a log summary linking to wikia:subdomain:page name, as this reduces the likelihood of your getting a 503 backend fetch failed error. If you want to import a lot of pages with all revisions, then it's recommended you request this on Phabricator and system administrators will run a maintenance script for you. Hope this helps. Dmehus (talk) 22:18, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
To add on to Dmehus's comment above, depending on the size of your wiki, using Special:Export to obtain a dump might be inconvenient. If you are a sysop or bureaucrat on the Fandom wiki you are trying to export, it would be easier to request the creation of a dump by clicking the button at the bottom of Special:Statistics on your Fandom wiki and then waiting for the dump to be generated. Once it is generated, you can download it at the same place you requested it at without having to gather a list of pages yourself. Joritochip (talk) 22:33, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
It did not work and it said "Expected <media wiki> tag." BookFandumb1 (talk) 22:48, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Could you please post a link to your Fandom wiki so I could take a further look? Thanks Joritochip (talk) 23:55, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
The wiki got deleted, but I have the pages downloaded. BookFandumb1 (talk) 00:10, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

How do I enable Navigation Popups or Popups?

Can I know If its possible to enable navigation popups?? or to have it? Ugochimobi (talk) 10:19, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

@Ugochimobi: You can enable the Popups extension by going to Special:ManageWiki/extensions on your wiki. Details are available here. :-) R4356th 3,263 Local Contributions Logged Actions Rights CentralAuth (talk) 10:25, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Okay @R4356th Thanks. Let me see Ugochimobi (talk) 11:07, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Ugochimobi Since you also asked about Navigation Popups, the easiest way to enable this (for yourself) is to follow these instructions. If you want to install it as a gadget on your wiki for other users, it is not too difficult, but generally just involves importing several files and listing the gadget file at MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition on your wiki. Instructions for this should also be on that same page I linked. Note that the Navigation Popups gadget conflicts with the Reference Previews extension. That's not to say you cannot have both installed on your wiki, but it just means that a user cannot have both the Reference Previews extension and Navigation Popups gadget enabled in their preferences. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 14:05, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
@Dmehus I have actually installed It as a gadget on my wiki, and Yeah i actually followed the listed instructions here

It was indeed interesting Ugochimobi (talk) 14:17, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Interwiki P request for

I request that the interwiki prefix of mp to be added/edited to link to Thank you, WikiJS talk 17:16, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

WikiJS Though there is a limited use case adding an interwiki prefix for the subject wiki to the subject wiki's local interwiki table, this is Yes check.svg done without the forward or transclude flags. If you are wanting to link to Memepedia from other Miraheze wikis, you can, of course, always use optional displayed text in both edits and log actions. Dmehus (talk) 17:37, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
@WikiJS: I can see that Dmehus has already handled this request for you, which is great but I was just wondering if you were requesting the prefix to be added to Meta's interwiki table (which is also the global one). R4356th 3,263 Local Contributions Logged Actions Rights CentralAuth (talk) 17:47, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
I was talking about my local interwiki table, not the global one, as I don't see a reason for it to be stored globally. WikiJS talk 18:26, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Redirection Issue

I have a button that links to a page on my wiki, but whenever I click on it, it just shows a "cannot load" page. Is there any fix for this? Sorry for the crappy quality, I had to convert the video to a gif.

 WikiJS talk 18:39, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

WikiJS Thank you for reporting this issue. We do prefer screenshots for these things be uploaded to Miraheze Commons, generally with a specific filename (including a date and timestamp in the file name is usually ideal). In any event, we can perform that housekeeping and migration later. Regarding your issue, I'm not sure I see the issue in the screenshot. Can you perhaps clarify what you mean and maybe upload a new version of that screenshot to File:Issue.gif circling or otherwise highlighting the problem? Dmehus (talk) 18:51, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
WikiJS Nevermind. I see that File:Issue.gif is an animated GIF. I've now Yes check.svg fixed the issue for you. The issue was your Template:Main Page, imported from, still had the www prefix. Dmehus (talk) 18:56, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Lost the password reset from Simple Electronics Wiki

On I've removed all permissions from anonymous (*) users. That has also lost the permission to use Special:PasswordReset and I can't find out how to re-enable it. Please advise. Rob Kam (talk) 23:25, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Rob Kam While I'm not sure which user right controls access to Special:PasswordReset, if I had to guess, I'd probably try editmyoptions first. Try re-adding that to the * group. If that doesn't work, try re-adding some of the other permissions from the default permissions—namely viewmyprivateinfo and editmyprivateinfo. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 23:28, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Rob Kam Looks like my theory was correct, as this documentation page indeed confirms that editmyprivateinfo controls access to Special:PasswordReset. Dmehus (talk) 23:34, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks that has sorted the issue out. Rob Kam (talk) 00:28, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Okay, Yes check.svg that's great. Thanks for the update. Dmehus (talk) 00:30, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

VisualEditor and permission restricting

I manage symbian, and to prevent spam, I have configured it so that only manually approved users can edit the wiki, by removing all edit rights from all user groups except bureaucrat and sysop, and creating a new "approved" group that has edit rights. However, doing this causes VisualEditor to complain that "You're not allowed to edit this wiki through the API" for users in the "approved" group. I have found this issue on Wikimedia Phabricator which seems to be what I'm encountering here. I don't fully understand the discussion in the thread there, but it seems that avoiding this problem requires configuration changes that requires backend access. Is it possible (within what's permitted in the Miraheze infrastructure) to keep the permission restrictions and use VisualEditor at the same time? --Jack980517 (talk) 04:58, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Never mind, I should have read it more closely. This comment says I just need to grant the "writeapi" right to the "approved" user group. Did just that and now it's working. --Jack980517 (talk) 05:08, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Nice Yes check.svg Done Ugochimobi (talk) 09:31, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
