Cannot create new page from search

Normally to create a MediaWiki page, you can simply search for the article in your search box. If the page is not found, MediaWiki will prompt you to create the page. However, on my wiki, I am not prompted to create a new page. I can create a new page if I create a link of a word that does not have a page, but I don't get the link to create a new page from searching a page that does not exist. "Exception" error

Hello, and thank you again for your beautiful work!

My wiki is working well, but I have a problem when a new user has to set a new password at first access. The password input works, but after that I see a page which says (italian version):

Is it possible to fix it? (the best thing should be redirecting the user to a news page, like "Your account is ready, welcome and begin navigatioN"...

Why is new group in "Groups you cannot change" list?

I just created a new group (Editors2) to test. My current editors group members lost their ability to edit. I created a task on Maniphest (T5197). Meanwhile, I'm trying to set up a new group to see if it works better. But the group ended up in the column Groups you cannot change.

Can someone please give me a very basic and easy to follow guide to creating infoboxes and infobox templates to use on my wiki? Thank you

I mean the subject says it all- I've been trying for hours to figure out how to get an infobox to appear. I would like to create a template for an infobox for cities- so that when I use it for multiple pages, each one about a city, there will be an infobox with facts such as when it was founded, where it is located, who rules it, etc. Everything I have found is written by experts for other advanced users, and extreme absolute beginners like me can't understand a single word. Would somebody know what to do- how to get this result?

From what I've tried, I've received a template loop error, and now all it comes up with is "Template:Infobox" in red, not even "Template:Infobox city" like what I had written. I have a page called Templaet:Infobox city which has some code that looks (for example) like:

{{Infobox | title = {{{name}}} | caption = {{{time}}} }}

and on the page where I want the infobox to appear, I have something (once again, just an example) like:

{{Infobox city | name = Babylon | time = 1894 BC - 1000 AD }}

The examples are just super basic and not actually what I use, but they're to the extent. If someone could please help me understand why the infobox is not appearing, instead saying there's a loop or plain red text, that would be much appreciated.

Side note, if I manage to understand how to get this up and running, having an image in the infobox would be much appreciated. I'm not sure if I'll be able to figure it out on my own, so if you want to explain how that works as well I won't be complaining :)

Welcome to Miraheze! Basically, typing {{TemplateName}} into a page simply copies ("transcludes") the text of the specified template and inserts it at that point. You've figured out how to pass parameters. There is no secret to getting images to appear; the code of the template, after being transcluded with the parameters substituted, simply has to make sense at its new home. If you are seeing "Template:Infobox" in red, it means that Template:Infobox doesn't exist on your wiki. Naturally, as your examples suggest that you named it "Infobox city". This part of the problem I suspect is the result of a simple typo.
MediaWiki's help page is here. Wikipedia and other wikis already have "Infobox city", as well as a generic template to build infoboxes for specific uses such as cities. Our FAQ may help you import their templates.
Two general tips: Find a wiki that's already doing what you want to do, and steal the code. Also, type what you want into the page without using a template, then transfer more and more of it into the template. But first, solve the naming problem! Spıke (talk)11:21 26-Mar-2020

I'm unfortunately back again with more infobox problems :/

Thank you for your message before, but I unfortunately couldn't figure out the problem. I read the wiki, FAQ and revised my Template pages, to no avail.

Firstly, I checked the page I want to infobox to appear on and it said that it was getting templates from both Template:Infobox and Template:Infobox city, even though I only had {{Infobox city}} written in. The Template:Infobox page wasn't needed (or at least I hope not) so whatever I had been messing about in there, I deleted the page, clearing it. I left just Template:Infobox city, but the page where I wanted my infobox continued to say it was pulling templates from the two pages.

It seems like there are two types of templates- the template you have on the "Template:Infobox whatever" page that tells the wiki what parameter goes where, and how to build the infobox, and the template you put on the page where you want the infobox to go. I believe that my problems are with the first kind of template. SO I went to the FAQ to see if there was something about how to use these first kind of infoboxes.

Reading the FAQ I saw you had to import and export templates to get infoboxes to work. In that case, since I don't want a premade infobox template but a custom template to create a custom infobox, I went to Wikipedia and found Template:Infobox, the page I believed had the template to create templates- in specific, the first kind of templates I was talking about, the ones that go on the "Template:Infobox whatever" page. And now I found myself with even MORE problems as I couldn't get the Special:Import page to work.

I had copied the link of the Template:Infobox page from Wikipedia, and using Wikipedia's Special:Export page, I exported it as a XML file. From here, I went to my own wiki's Special:Import page, and placed the file in. Once I got it to work by some miracle, and it said it had imported some pages such as modules and stuff, things I didn't really want. But there it was- the Template page. I went there and... nothing at all. It was blank- even in the script editor. I had gone back to the page where the infobox should be to find nothing at all.

I went back to Wikipedia's Template:Infobox page to try and copy some of the syntax (I think that's what it's called?) of what looked like the template into my own Template:Infobox page. And yet, it read it as the second kind of template I was talking about, the template that draws upon the first. It called upon itself and created a template loop.

I'm going to read about Import and Export, and I would like to read about the first kind of template, but I haven't found any information that I can understand yet. It's like reading a dictionary, but all the definitions are made up of words you don't know the definitions of.

I'm also going to search other people's wiki's on Miraheze to try and find instances of infoboxes and see if I can figure out what they've done.

First of all, rules:
  • Post to talk pages by appending to the relevant section, or creating a new section.
  • Do not erase your previous posts to a talk page.
  • Especially do not erase my response. When you call up an edit box and type in new comments, that's what you're doing.
  • Sign and timestamp your post by typing ~~~~ at the end of your final line.
I think the reason it tells you you are calling both {{Infobox city}} and {{Infobox}} is that the former calls the latter, because the former is built in terms of the latter. Most Infoboxes, if you try to view them as a page rather than transclude them, will show you instructions on their proper usage. Typically this includes how to code images: It may be that you have to type the complete File: or even [[File: syntax, or it may be that you just type the name of the image file. This depends on how much of your parameter the template transcludes and how much the template adds on its own.
FAQ won't give you information anywhere this detailed on a specific template. Moreover, what we wrote at FAQ only described the case where you want to import complete templates from a wiki such as Wikipedia. I use templates and would not want to deal with these complications. Again I suggest that you get a page to appear the way you want it to, and only then think about using templates to automate the process to simplify creation of additional articles. Using chosen value from a field as a category for second field

Hey all, been running myself in circles trying to sort this one out, so hopefully someone has an idea or two I haven't thought of. I'm primarily using PageForms and trying to make a second field use the value of the first field as it's category, which I think needs to just be carried over as a string, though my knowledge sort of fizzles out beyond whats readily found on the internet and I might just be speaking gibberish. Anyway, this is a nonfunctional quasi-code snippet that I think represents what I'd -like- to do, but it seems not nearly as simple:

'System' field|System|mandatory|values from category=Systems|existing values only

'Planet' field|Planet|mandatory|values from category=value_chosen_in_System_field|existing values only

I can reference these fields on the following page of course, but not right on the form page itself. And I know the show on select option exists, but that requires adding all trees into the form manually, whereas I'd prefer it be dynamic as new data will be regularly added to all of the categories. I feel like I am overlooking something obvious, as I certainly can't be the first person to want to do this, and I appreciate any guidance!

Where add template?

I feel so clueless.

I just want to compile research, articles & photos to provide for leaders & others to reference as they're figuring out methods to deal with Coronavirus. Was hoping to do in basic format like this:

with ability to add more sections.

Where do I make a template like this & will it automatically be inserted whenever I make a new page? I'm sorry to ask so many questions--I'm trying to learn but also get doing research faster. If you can help me figure out, thanks a TRILLION!!

  • I'm catching on some about formatting, but don't know where to make a template file that will appear on all pages.
  • I saw a reference to "local settings" (I think for css) but I am not able to find. Please help?

Lost ability to post comments and create pages on Terrible TV Shows Wiki

I was a autoconfirmed user on the wiki but for some reason, I lost the rights. I talked to an admin and he made me as a confirmed user but the problem still hasn't been resolved. How can I become a autoconfirmed user again? I have no issues on Crappy Games Wiki or Awful Movies Wiki where I am a autoconfirmed user. I can't log in

User:OishiLover75: I'm having trouble logging in. Technical problems are not restored. What should I do? Why don't the instructions above work for me.

Only the Edit Source option is available when trying to update my sandbox plus previous issue still not solved.

I want to update my sandbox on Awful Movies Wiki but it's only letting me edit the source only and not edit the page itself. That's very inconvenient for me because it's much faster to edit as the page should be displayed unless I'm uploading videos.

And I still haven't gotten a reply with the previous issue that I posted last week that I'm having on Terrible TV Shows Wiki. Can someone please let me know what's going on and why Miraheze is becoming worse to use with each passing day?

Some troubles with infobox

Hello, I have a wiki I imported the infobox template and several additional templates to it. But I noticed that something was wrong. templates have no "borders" (they should be similar to tables). Also, they are not displayed on the right and some pictures are not displayed. Here is a page with an example:

By the way, on some wikis under the heading it says "from [wikiname] ..." how can this be implemented on my wiki?

@Kwack: Make sure wherever you imported the infobox template from, that you also imported the CSS styling for those infoboxes, usually found in MediaWiki:Common.css.

Help with VisualEditor

How do i make VisualEditor default on my wiki?

In case you didn't know you can enable it via Special:ManageWiki/extensions. You can make VisualEditor the default editor via Special:ManageWiki/settings, after it's enabled. Formatting help

Hello, I am an admin on the Reds! Wiki and in the past I have attempted to redesign the main page so there are two separate parallel collumns with links to relevant content by copying formatting from other places/wiki with a similar design elsewhere see my sandbox and I would like to know how the page can be divided/displayed in such a way where one section isn't "below" the other in the same way the current sandbox version is. Templates all break

I come from a background of Wikipedia, so I know a lot about templates. When trying to export and import the documentation template of the template wiki, everything in it broke. Interwiki Links

I recently imported two wikis (both related to the Homestar Runner cartoon series) from Referata to Miraheze, and I'd like to restore some of the interwiki links from the original sites.

On the Homestar Runner Fanstuff Wiki 2, the project namespace is "HRFWiki2". If you enter a project talk page (such as HRFWiki2 talk:Wiki Stuff, which doesn't exist), the "Page" tab at the top appears red, and when clicked, goes to Special:Badtitle/NS3000:Wiki Stuff instead of HRFWiki2:Wiki Stuff. This is the case with all HRFWiki2 namespace pages. Additionally, "HRFWiki2 talk" shows up twice on Special:Search, under "Advanced", which I suspect is related to the problem. Welcome to Miraheze! Unfortunately, I can't read the home page at worldtrainwiki nor locate the file link. Perhaps you can read my wiki; it has an example here. When I create a link to Filename.mp3, the reader can click on that link and hear the narration. When I create a picture whose link= was Media:Filename.mp3 clicking on it instead gets the File page describing the narration. This code is in Template:InlineMedia. I hope this helps! "Session hijacked"

I can't create accounts

I still can't log on to my account.

Every time I log in, it always show the session hijacking. I'm feeling uncomfortable from this and to be honest, I've tried everything I could do in order to succesfully log in. I got rid of cookies and it still won't let me log on. - Tarbiz

@Tarbiz: When this happens to me, it usually means my PC is in a state where Miraheze can't create a cookie or run a Javascript. Enable these features on your end and start the log-in process from the beginning. (Don't just refresh the page with the "hijacked" notice, or you may simply get it again.) ? On Awesome/Loathsome Character Wikis

Should this Canadian animated character belong on the Awesome Characters Wiki or its sister wiki Loathsome? Contrary to what Snesboy12 mentioned on his character design on the series article on Terrible TV Shows he resembles more like Monsieur Neutron than Timmy Turner because he doesn’t wear pink.

Likewise for his love interest she definitely belongs in the former because her and Dennis are like-able characters in the Redeeming Qualities of said show. Her being modeled after Cindy Vortex would be the only horrible quality on there.

Also to sum it up considering its premise he is the Dib Membrane to Kat’s Zim Millie’s Gaz and Burt’s Professor.
