Number of articles[edit | edit source]

I recently imported content from another wiki. Now, my wiki says {{NUMBEROFPAGES}} is 2,964 (an accurate number, I assume), but {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}} is 1. What is wrong here? Do the pages not qualify as articles? Is there a problem with the code? Gfdgsgxgzgdrc (talk) 22:18, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Hispano76— For Zetaboards, yes, the URL has changed recently. But keep the interwiki URL the same as what I have listed, or else it'll mess up the existing links on the wiki. As for Homestore-Runner, I can access it just fine through that link. But it's not essential, so you don't necessarily have to do that one.

Is Miraheze politically correct?[edit | edit source]

As I have read in the terms of use, you must comply with the laws of California and the Netherlands, in addition to not promoting hate speech. However, there are some doubts I have about it. When I was in Wikia, they forced me to be politically correct (for example: you can't criticize the LGBT community, even if it is a constructive and polite criticism; you can't written the n-word or you will be banned, even if it's for explanatory reasons). The rules of Miraheze indicate that this wiki network is neutral, so I would like to know what is forbidden to do with specific topics:

  1. Talk about feminism: Write an article explaining how this issue is related to the topic of a certain wiki. Mention in what way it affects positively or negatively. This article will be written formally and politely.
    1. Same as above, but with other sensitive topics such as:
      1. LGBT community and movement.
      2. Left-wing and right-wing ideologies and their derivatives.
      3. Some taboos like: pedophilia, zoophilia and other rare fetishism (these articles will be written modestly and sensitive/offensive images will not be used) .
      4. Some religions like: Christianity, Islam, Judaism (the most sensitive), Buddhism.
      5. Some taboo practices such as: cannibalism, abortion.
      6. Is there a topic that we should not touch?
  2. Moderation of comments: As the size of a wiki increases, the comments received may be so many that some may escape the reach of moderators or administrators. It is possible that comments appear with malicious intentions.
    1. For example, I received a comment from someone who used the "soft" version of the n-word, is not there any problem with that?:
  3. What happens if the n-word is written? Is there automatic banning or not? Is it forbidden to do it or not?
    1. Are there words that are forbidden to write?

Obviously, if someone is going to touch on some topics, he/she will be done for informative reasons, and he/she gets to show negative aspects of these topics (something like the critical vision of a certain community), he/she will be for informational reasons and not to promote hatred . Example:

  • Informational text (omniscient narrator): "The Minecraft community hates the Fortnite community, due to the following reasons: ..."
  • Hate Speech (protagonist narrator): "We, the Minecraft community, must abhor and attack the Fortnite community for the following reasons: ..."

Under Terms_of_Use#8._Access_Restrictions, Miraheze staff and stewards have the authority to ban a disruptive user due to harassment other users on any Wikis. Email contact "staff at" in privately, if the case are sensitive. SA 13 Bro (talk) 23:08, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Wikia has a policy to ban underage users immediately after the underage users are discovered to be underage. Both Wikia and Miraheze falls under US jurisdiction (as the financial stuff is handled in the US, and we have server in the US), and under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), both are required to get a consent. It is too complex to comply with such requirement (See the Compliance section), so if you don't treat Private Information of people under 13 (Of course Miraheze might be trating people under 13 unknowingly, but the point of COPPA is "Knowingly".), you don't have to deal with the complex business. — revi 01:34, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
Miraheze, Wikia and the Wikimedia Foundation might be treating people under 13 unknowingly, based on evidence when I was on Wikia. Some of the users who are underage have already been blocked until they turn 13. Miraheze however, is not an organisation, so the COPPA law might not be applied to this wiki. You need to insert all the code on Wikipedia's MediaWiki:Common.css, make the template Navbox on your wiki, insert Module:Navbox, Module:Navbar and Module:Arguments and also Module:Color contrast and Module:Color contrast/colors if script errors arise. Copyright and fair use[edit | edit source]

After reading some articles on Wikipedia I'm still confused about what "copyright" and "fair use" really mean in a wiki hosted by Miraheze, especially regarding media content. Let's say I want to take some screenshots from a popular tv series to embellish an article about that series, is it ok or not? Miraheze is a big wiki hosting service. Do you have a company as this wiki “Miraheze, Inc.”? If you have it, than who is the Founder? Executive Director? Chair of the Board? May you also add emails like emergency at Fungster (contribs - email - CA) 07:50, 13 June 2019 (UTC)

We are currently not incorporated yet. Though we plan to file for non profit status in the future. Because we are not incorporated, we currently do not have a board yet. We currently do not offer a emergency at  address as we cannot commit to such a thing. While I understand the benefits of incorporation, I would say that given the current drama with the WMF vs. Wikipedia right now, that maybe perhaps we would reconsider being incorporated, especially since we do promote the "community driven" aspect.. What do you mean by "legal protection"? Being incorporated isn't going to make you more immune to lawsuits or make people less likely to file them. What I'm concerned about is establishing a gap between the community, of which currently the stewards and more or less the sysadmins are considered to be members, and the "powers that be" namely paid employees with some authority over the community. While Miraheze is a large service and is ever growing, I'd be afraid that the service wouldn't survive if we ever had something like the current WMF vs. Wikipedia drama unfold here. Besides, I wouldn't want to see Miraheze adopt some of the policies that the WMF has, many of which are contributors to the current drama, such as the Foundation's supposed right to impose global bans that are not appealable to anybody except Jimbo, without discussion and without stating the reason for said bans.
TL;DR I don't want to see Miraheze become something like the WMF where there is a disconnect between the Foundation or the Board and the community. The way it is now where the "staff members" are also community members is the way it should be. Amanda Catherine (talk) 23:24, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
You are correct incorporated isn't going to make Miraheze immune to law suits, but it means I can't be taken to court in the UK personally for my actions in the capacity I take as a system administrator - as I am then no longer personally legally responsible for my actions on behalf of Miraheze - but while currently I am 100% possible. Further, it protects Miraheze against local law enforcement. An example would be if the UK police give a warrant for me to release information Miraheze stores - I have to hand it over. If not, I can be arrested. While if Miraheze is an organisation, the warrant has to be made out to Miraheze and can't be made out to myself. Miraheze is not in a position to hire staff - therefore we will always be "community members". Though of course, nothing stops us requesting help from non-community members as has happened in the past. It is founded no where. When it is, it will be in the US. The board will likely contain existing staff members within reason and otherwise. The registered offices will be up to Labster but likely his premises or a property he owns/runs/control unrelated to Miraheze. John (talk) 01:37, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

Miraheze wiki hosting server have 2 co-founders, which is John and Southparkfan, I think this may let them for decision whether to build the Miraheze Office in the future. What was Amanda Catherine have mentioned at above are completely right, Wikipedia are currently having drama, I also don't want to see Miraheze wiki one day become like WMF. Yes, the data dumps also mentioned at Terms of Use#9. Hosting#9d. Termination. The usage of data dumps is to generate your content as xml, and your content must be comply with TOU, just in case your Wiki had accidentally breakdown. SA 13 Bro (talk) 02:56, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

How do I add other languages to my wiki?[edit | edit source]

As I understand this seems to be meant for translation projects where the authors write and translate together. In our wiki a group of some germans will write and a independent group of some English speaking authors will write their articles where some are in both groups but the content may be grow independent. I am reviving this topic about the board of Miraheze and how Miraheze should be incorporated[edit | edit source]

Miraheze technically needs a board and needs to be incorporated. On my page about this topic, Miraheze, th "Service", should be incorporated and Wikipedians will revive this draft on WP once more external sources are found. Miraheze doesnt need a board imo, and about that staff/contractor page, none of us are paid staff (AFAIK) we are all volunteer. Since Miraheze is an organisation we need to divide Miraheze into three governance regions: Miraheze Asia (which includes The Pioneer, Fukahire, SA and me, and also Revi), Miraheze Europe (which includes Paladox, Southparkfan, Rob Kam, and also Reception123), and Miraheze America (which obviously includes John and Labster). Is it really necessary? I would prefer to avoid so much bureaucracy and that the project focuses on the contents of wikis, avoid ambiguity in user permissions and make campaigns for donations among others. Having so much bureaucracy is going to make Miraheze look like Wikia/Fandom... that in the end it won't help the average contributor. Hispano76 (talk) 20:58, 22 June 2019 (UTC)
I think this isn't necessary, for the entire site it is written that Miraheze is maintained by volunteers, the staff and volunteers pages are public, as if to talk about government. Besides having the need to name the region from which a volunteer contributes could violate privacy, i don't think it is necessary to know where you are from or where we are. --Dark Dragoon (talk) 01:19, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

I think that the users who contributed voluntarily here tried hard to show transparency and offer a good service. They just did an annual survey showing a lot of interest in the consumer based on what they built, so starting with personal donations would look bad.
And i don't think we just have to look at the work done by the system administrators, all the volunteers do something to make this place better. In my case i only do translations, it seems very little, but I try to do it because i know friends who think that this is just a place for english speaking users, but i don't need donations to make it more accessible to them. --Dark Dragoon (talk) 13:35, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

I too concur that there is no need to organize users by world region. I don't conceal mine, others might, and nationality is generally not an issue except for varying skill at, and desire to use, English. (If we had to sort users, I would prefer doing it by demonstrated maturity, so the recent wave of feuding children should have to eat at a separate table!) where is "Special:ManageWiki"[edit | edit source]

From miraheze I got the message posted on

"Miraheze Staff has noticed that this wiki has no edits or logs made within the last 45 days. If you would like to prevent this wiki from being closed, please start showing signs of activity here. If there are no signs of this wiki being used within the next 15 days, this wiki may be closed per the Dormancy Policy. This wiki will then be eligible for adoption by another user. If not adopted and still inactive 135 days from now, this wiki will become eligible for deletion. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with Miraheze's Dormancy Policy. If there is activity on this wiki you can go to Special:ManageWiki and uncheck "inactive" yourself. If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to Stewards' noticeboard."

Following the above hint "go to Special:ManageWiki" I visit "", but there searching for "ManageWiki" gives no result; "Manage a wiki" leads me to somewhere I feel lost.

So, how can I uncheck "inactive" ?

You can use Special:ManageWiki/permissions to restrict the access of unlogged users. -- Void Whispers 20:11, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
