From Meta

Hey Doug, I have seen various wikis using Miraheze having helpful templates (Announcements, Stubs, etc.) and was wondering if you could add them to my wiki. Thanks. PepperoniJustin 19:49, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Bukkit It seems like you got this Yes check.svg resolved okay, right? Dmehus (talk) 01:17, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I used various different wiki imports for templates. Bukkit (talk) (C) 21:11, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I figured as much. Glad you got it resolved without my assistance. Sorry I wasn't able to assist, though. Dmehus (talk) 01:07, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template documentation

Hi Doug, I have implemented a template documentation in the publictestwiki for demonstration purposes. To these two templates I have added the documention Template:RfP/boilerplate Template:Draft-section so you can see how it looks like. If you think this is useful I (or anyone else) can copy the template and the associated module to other Miraheze wikis. I have translated the text that is displayed in the template pages but not all the comments in the module, a native speaker may improve the translation. Before I spend a lot of time for translating the German comments to English I will make sure that this feature is wanted on Miraheze, if not I will save my time ;-) Lily (Manuela) (Lilypond Wiki · talk and I will listen · my little garden ) 17:18, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

interwiki/interlanguage prefixes

@Dmehus: could you please set up interwiki and interlanguage prefixes on each of PetraWiki's wiki interwiki tables:

Also, who do I need to talk to in order to:

  • change the "Upload file" link of all PetraWiki's wikis to point to upload-site (as described here)?
  • use files in the other PetraWiki's wikis (as described here)? --Luka Ibrišimović (talk) 22:02, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Luka Ibrišimović: Sure, do you want PetraWiki English ( to be the master interwiki prefix, with en and hr added on (a) the other wiki or (b) all wikis? Also, will you require cross-wiki scary transclusion for any wiki? Dmehus (talk) 22:12, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I don't require transclusion for any of the wikis. Sorry, I didn't quite understand your first question, could you explain it to me little more? Thank you. --Luka Ibrišimović (talk) 22:31, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I would like each PetraWiki wiki to have interwiki link to other PetraWiki wikis. I would like petrawiki to be master interwiki prefix for English PetraWiki as well as en, and hr for Croatian PetraWiki, language wikis to have link to files and translate wiki, files and translate wikis to have links to language wikis, and files and translate to have link to each other. All wikis should have petrawiki (and en) for English PetraWiki. I hope that answers your question (if I understood you and interwiki links correctly). :) --Luka Ibrišimović (talk) 21:27, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Luka Ibrišimović Apologies for the delay in both replying to this message and handling it, but did you have a chance to take a look on all your wikis and see if the interwiki prefixes I added were all set up correctly? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 00:41, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: No need to apologize. I checked it out, it's perfect. Thank you very much! --Luka Ibrišimović (talk) 12:29, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Luka Ibrišimović Oh, that's great. I guess I was mainly apologizing for not adding the requested shared repository upload navigation URLs mentioned briefly above and in #T6789 on Phabricator, as you're right I did complete the interwiki link requests fairly quickly. Regarding the latter, though, I noticed you didn't include petrawikitranslatewiki in your list of wikis that should have a common shared database file upload navigation URL specified. As I think you did mention that above, please let me know if you just missed including that on the Phabricator ticket, and I can process that request as well. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 12:43, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I didn't forget about it, I just thought I wouldn't be needing it for PetraWiki Translate. But now that you asked me, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to change $wgUploadNavigationUrl and $wgUploadMissingFileUrl for PetraWiki Translate as well. So if it's not too much trouble... Thank you! --Luka Ibrišimović (talk) 13:06, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

Edit Collision

Please accept my apologies for the edit collision we had at Special:RequestWikiQueue/16446! --Integer talk 02:29, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Integer Face-smile.svg Thank you; however, there's actually no need to apologize. It's quite funny that (a) we both used the same canned/prepared decline reason and (b) wiki creator conflicted at the same minute. If anything, I look at it is validation that our decline was correct. ;) Dmehus (talk) 02:33, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, a very interesting way to think about it, and Face-smile.svg Thank you too! Integer talk 22:14, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just a Friendly Note

You forgot to remove the flodder user group from yourself. As a result, your edits and logged actions are being marked as bot actions. :P User:R4356th/Signature 13:46, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

R4356th Thanks for the note. Well, not my edits, only log actions. In any case, this doesn't prevent visibility in Special:Log. I didn't forget to remove the flood, though, as I wasn't quite finished yet with deleting the translation subpages of the training modules we talked about (as it's a fair bit of work). I hope to finish that this morning. Dmehus (talk) 13:52, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay. 🤔 Why are you removing those pages though? User:R4356th/Signature 13:55, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
R4356th Remember? I discussed it with you, Sabelöga, and Reception123, separately or individually, on Discord, and consensus was that the pages were only useful to system administrators, all of whom use English as their primary language, so this created an unnecessary amount of translation work for translators that would be better spent translating existing pages and keeping existing translation subpages up to date. Dmehus (talk) 13:58, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Um... that was related to the pages in the Tech namespace? Besides, there was consensus in the community in a pretty recent RfC that the Training Modules should be read by CVT, CoCC etc. as well. User:R4356th/Signature 14:41, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
R4356th Oh, I thought you and I had discussed whether the training modules needed to be translated, but perhaps it was just Sabelöga and Reception123. Though I'm not familiar with the RfC to which you refer, that doesn't change whether the training modules need to be translated. Dmehus (talk) 14:44, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion continued on Discord. User:R4356th/Signature 15:01, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Following the discussion on the Administrators noticeboard

Could you edit the translation tags on the main page to be on the same row as the bulleted lists as that aligns them properly? That way we can avoid outdated and missing translations from looking like this. --Sabelöga (talk) 14:07, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Any interest in this? Sabelöga (talk) 19:36, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sabelöga Well, the result from the discussion at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard to which you refer is that this is an upstream bug related to the Translate and best resolved through filing a ticket on Wikimedia Phabricator, unless you mean there's some specific improvement on that specific page. If the latter is the case, can you please state exactly and clearly what you want you want to be changed in the format of "change x to y" so it's clear on exactly what needs to be changed? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 19:43, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── What I mean is that I want you to move all the bullet point to the same same row, and not on seperate as it is now. Just as I did on Meta:Wiki creators guide. This fixes the problem, or at least it did on that page, so I assume it will here too. I have no idea what upstream bug would create this.

Basically move:

# Text

on the Main Page.

Or for even more simplicity, just copy this into the Main Page, that should do it. --Sabelöga (talk) 16:45, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the clarification, but I'm not satisfied with this proposed fix, particularly with using <pre></pre>, which seems to a bit of a hacky fix, to be quite honest. I'm open to considering other potential fixes or workarounds, but this isn't it, I don't think. It's also not particularly onerous for translators to remove the FuzzyBot-added divs, as they've been doing it for more than five years without any issues. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 16:51, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ignore the "pre" tags. They're just there to show how it would look like in code. The issue here is that the code in translations (not on the original) actually differentiates between text on the same row as a bullet point and text that's just on the next row. The original page with all the "translate" tags don't differentiate between on the bullet point and on the next row, but when fuzzy bot starts adding this "div" tag <div lang="en" dir="ltr" class="mw-content-ltr"> the code (on the translated pages) starts differentiating between text when it's on the bullet point and when it's on the next row. That's why things get broken up as they do and why it is important for translation administrators to keep text on the bullet point and not on the next row.
I know this will work since I did the exact same thing on Meta:Wiki creators guide and I don't see any reason why the same thing won't have an effect here. If there's any reason it won't work here I'd like to know why. Sabelöga (talk) 17:16, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, okay, I'm okay with this then, since you said to ignore the pre tags. I tried to implement the fix, but got Translate extension syntax errors beginning at "Free of charge," and I'm not sure how to resolve that. I tried to copy and paste Main Page into your userspace for you to fix, but got the same thing. So if you'll markup the wikitext for me and post in a pastebin, I'll implement the fix, attributing you via an edit summary. Dmehus (talk) 17:34, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User:Sabelöga/Test this doesn't give any errors, this should work. Sabelöga (talk) 17:39, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Any success? Or did this not work? Sabelöga (talk) 15:57, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can't get it to work. I'll try and take another look in another week or so. Dmehus (talk) 16:14, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay Sabelöga (talk) 12:34, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Special:RequestWikiQueue/16566

Why were you so interested in approving the above mentioned wiki request despite me mentioning that a similar wiki already exists? The requester could had easily adopted it. Please reply here and not privately on Discord. Thank you. User:R4356th/Signature 14:40, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

R4356th As I said in the request, historytimewiki was apparently a good-faith wiki with no actual content. Lots of users have ideas to create wikis, but never follow through. As the requests for adoption process is a time-consuming process and since this wiki has no actual content, it seems rather bureaucratic to ask Loisya to go through a full adoption request just to adopt a wiki that has no more content than a brand new wiki. Nevertheless, I get your thinking, but in this case, common sense prevails here. Dmehus (talk) 14:43, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed but I still think going through the RfA process would have been better and could had prevented a wiki from being deleted and replaced with a new one. It would had also allowed Stewards to assess Loisya. User:R4356th/Signature 15:16, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "allow[ing] Stewards to assess Loisya." We don't really assess the user in an adoption request; we assess their contributions. As to the RfA process, while it is nice if we can prevent wikis from being deleted, that's really more about preserving wikis that have actual content, to ensure the content is kept updated, expanded on, maintained, and the wiki generally kept free of spam and vandalism. To be clear though, I do like that you are looking at whether we have similar wikis in your assessment of wiki requests, and I try and do that as well—including with English Wikipedia fork wikis, to see if users may want to request permissions on and contribute to one one of many English Wikipedia fork wikis we have. As well, it's also helpful to check the RequestWikiQueue to see whether the user previously requested the same, or similar, wiki, that has since been either closed or undeleted. I've found a few wikis that way in which I was able to assist the user with reopening their wiki or with undeleting the wiki for them. Hope that clarifies it a bit, and thank you for your question. Dmehus (talk) 15:25, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"We don't really assess the user in an adoption request; we assess their contributions." - which is exactly what I said. "As to the RfA process, while it is nice if we can prevent wikis from being deleted, that's really more about preserving wikis that have actual content, to ensure the content is kept updated, expanded on, maintained, and the wiki generally kept free of spam and vandalism." I did adopt the Women in Tech Wiki which had 0 edits when I requested the wiki. "To be clear though, I do like that you are looking at whether we have similar wikis in your assessment of wiki requests, and I try and do that as well—including with English Wikipedia fork wikis, to see if users may want to request permissions on and contribute to one one of many English Wikipedia fork wikis we have." Check this out. ;) User:R4356th/Signature 19:34, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Well, to be fair, you did say "[i]t would also allowed Stewards to asses Loisya," but perhaps you meant to include contributions following Loisya? To your other point, yeah, that API result is quite neat and potentially quite useful. Dmehus (talk) 19:38, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"you did say "[i]t would also allowed Stewards to asses Loisya," but perhaps you meant to include contributions following Loisya?" Yes, exactly. User:R4356th/Signature 05:50, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi there.

Is there any way to get templates onto the site that I requested earlier? --Loisya (talk) 16:09, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Loisya Hi, welcome to Miraheze and to Meta Wiki, the central coordination wiki. To your question, there is Miraheze Template Wiki, which is probably the best source of (mostly) de-Wikipedia-ifyed templates, which you can either use Special:Export (on that wiki) and Special:Import (on your wiki) or transwiki import, selecting "templatewiki" from the drop-down box. In your edit summary, be sure to link to Imported from templatewiki:Template:TemplateName, replacing Template with the namespace from which you're importing. You may wish to import only the current revision, to prevent 503 errors. Alternatively, if you want to import all revisions, I'd recommend importing the templates or modules one by one, referring to the ?action=info ("page information") for any template/module dependencies. If using the Special:Export and Special:Import method, you'll need to use an interwiki prefix from your wiki's interwiki table (whether local or global), to ensure contributions are properly associated to the respective external users. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 16:14, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A question:

What can I do to also help this wiki out, as I have been the most active contributor across the wikis? Feel free to drop me at least a few tips when you get the chance, as I am getting tired right now, and won't be to answer you right away as my timezone here is 9:46PM at this time. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 01:46, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for sending me an email. However, I haven't received the email. I tried from meta's personal settings to send a password reset email for the test, but I did not receive the email. I've been in the junk mail folder several times before, so I searched for it, but this time it doesn't seem to be found. I'm sorry I didn't receive the email I received. --松•Matsu (talk) 03:50, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Since it is also used for resetting the password, I changed the email address registered in miraheze to a receivable address. I changed my email address, but it seems that I can now receive it--松•Matsu (talk) 09:39, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hrm, strange. It's good that you received the automatically generated password reset e-mail, but that still doesn't explain why you couldn't receive it at your other, current registered and valid e-mail address. Also, the fact that both you and and I cannot apparently receive e-mail messages sent through the Special:EmailUser suggests something is broken. I raised the issue with Site Reliability Engineers on IRC in #miraheze connect, as I strongly suspect something hasn't been configured correctly in the server migration. Dmehus (talk) 13:36, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I also changed the end of @, so I thought it might be a junk mail filter, but I check it with a browser, no mail remains in the junk folder, the filter may not be the cause. 松•Matsu (talk) 14:06, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

add $wgAllowSiteCSSOnRestrictedPages :$wgAllowSiteCSSOnRestrictedPages for skins modified in c.s.s. appear on the preference pages, this was the problem.

however, you can choose to put it exclusively on the wiki: if you don't want to deploy it at all --YellowFrogger (talk) 17:38, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

YellowFrogger I don't believe this is in ManageWiki, mainly for security reasons. So, this would need a GitHub pull request on the LocalSettings.php to enable this on your wiki. While it's possible to do, I do know that Universal Omega was able to customize his Cosmos skin for special pages, so that's perhaps the better venue—that is, for you to request specific CSS be implemented within the desired skin(s) your wiki is using? Otherwise, if not, can you say what your reason(s) are for wanting to add custom CSS to restricted special pages? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 17:54, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
YellowFrogger: this is not possible, even through LocalSettings.php for security reasons.
@Universal Omega: MediaWiki says you have to also put $wgMFSiteStylesRenderBlocking if mobilefrontend is activated. I think it is possible, because wikis like: and modify by css and appear on these restricted pages.
I think I saw no problem with my CSS, and I think you can put settings exclusively on a wiki, to avoid problems. But this was a request. --YellowFrogger (talk) 18:20, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I'm asking, because I find it strange, with a modified theme, and it gives the user an impression that the wiki is slow. And CollapsibeVector is also wrong on the common vector, and I fixed it.
I didn't find any security issues in the CSS.
MediaWiki says: "By default, the site's CSS customizations (for example, MediaWiki: Common.css) have no effect on the login and preferences pages. This preserves the security of the login process and allows users to remove any unwanted customizations without being interfered with. If you are not concerned about security risks, you can use the $ wgAllowSiteCSSOnRestrictedPagesconfiguration setting to allow custom CSS to work on these pages ". --YellowFrogger (talk) 18:25, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
YellowFrogger Are those wikis above hosted by Miraheze? If so, then it may be possible for us customize $wgMFSiteStylesRenderBlocking for you. I'm normally a little more liberal for security-related exceptions than some others, but I can see strong likelihood for serious security exploits by allowing CSS and JS on special pages. While I can see adding Internet Archive to the CSP whitelist, for example, I do agree with Universal Omega that we should not be allowing site CSS on restricted pages. That's good you were able to fix CollapsibleVector, though! :) Dmehus (talk) 18:29, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
They are not, they are independent. But note that they use skins modified in CSS, which still appear on restricted pages.
The CSS I want to appear is: This, like Common.css, did not present any major security risk, without the fatal error "X", no HTTP link image. In addition, only bureaucrats, and interface administrators can modify CSS / JS pages, and only I will be under these privileges. If you place / deploy now, I will like YellowFrogger (talk) 19:00, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Can you put it through LocalSettings.php? The skin I modified is Vector, so the customizable CSS is at: []. I hadn't seen your message about it, so responding now. YellowFrogger (talk) 00:17, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
YellowFrogger While I don't doubt that your CSS is fine, the reality is that we have no control over who is appointed as a local interface administrator or bureaucrat on local wikis, and we don't have the global manpower to routinely monitor the CSS and JS of every wiki. So while somewhat of a blunt instrument, instances where the likelihood of serious XSS exploits and security vulnerabilities are high, we have to restrict or disallow certain MediaWiki configurations. Thus, you will need to reach out to a system administrator, such as Universal Omega, to obtain approval before the PR can be done. I would suggest you reach out to someone like Reception123, as the Engineering Manager (MediaWiki), or Southparkfan, as the Director of the Site Reliability Engineering team. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:26, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus OK thank you. But how will I talk to them? they don't seem to be as active as you are, and I will try on the discussion page YellowFrogger (talk) 00:36, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
YellowFrogger While they may not be as active as me on-wiki, they're around. Reception123 may be reluctant to approve, so I would recommend reaching out to Southparkfan at User talk:Southparkfan (his user talk page). You may have to wait up to a week for a response, but if you outline a well articulated use case and link to this thread, I think there's at least a chance you may have success. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:43, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus I asked the question there .. YellowFrogger (talk) 00:59, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus Hi...The user you referred to me has not made a contribution for 20 days. Are you sure it is active? indicated and provided at least 7 days to respond. --YellowFrogger (talk) 02:13, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
YellowFrogger I'll try and reach out to Southparkfan and have him respond to his message(s) on his user talk page. Dmehus (talk) 02:18, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
He doesn't answer, he probably ignored it, because he made a change today on the wiki YellowFrogger (talk) 04:11, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is a technical matter, and therefore should be addressed on phabricator as opposed to individual user's talk pages. There are other individuals qualified to answer this question who probably would only see it if you make the request there. -- Void Whispers 04:19, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Void Yes, I agree that Phabricator would normally be the better venue for this, but since it is security-related and since Universal Omega had reservations about it, I referred YellowFrogger up to Southparkfan as it would've likely needed Southparkfan's approval anyway as I doubt any other SRE team member would've approved it without Southparkfan signing off on it, so that's why I referred YellowFrogger to Southparkfan. Dmehus (talk) 13:13, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And how to open a topic in Phabricator? YellowFrogger (talk) 23:51, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I personally wouldn't recommend opening a request on Phabricator, given that only Southparkfan would be able to approve the request, per my comments and Universal Omega's comments above. Instead, I would recommend you e-mail Southparkfan at southparkfan(at), stating the name and URL to/of your wiki, linking this discussion, and providing your reason for requesting this. Ask Southparkfan if he'd be willing to entertain this request and, if so, then file the task on Phabricator. That way, if he says a flat no, you've not wasted your time with the Phabricator request. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:27, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I sent a message to him southparkfan(at) via email from onibuswiki(at) yesterday How long do you think he has to reply? YellowFrogger (talk) 20:22, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes check.svg Great!. Southparkfan is usually most active on weekends, so I would give him until Monday to reply. If you haven't heard from him by then, ping me on a reply here and I'll gently poke him to take a look. Dmehus (talk) 20:24, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello ... miraheze is a good wikifarm platform, ad-free, original skin. so you should respect the user’s request a little. It is walking for 1 month to carry out this topic and my problem is not solved. And the southparkfan? he does not answer the email, much less the talk page. It is really cautious for an unknown user to place an order, but the Vector css from onibuswiki xmis clearly not wrong. You can see the content of the site as it is taken seriously, now a question: why did I do all this just to give users a lack of security? Just go there and implement the $ wg, as well as the $ wg and extensions that miraheze has been planting, however, exclusively for that site, and do what you said in the southparkfan user talk, ready, end of the bad CollapseVector. and I will put only administrators of the interface to modify the css
Thanks YellowFrogger (talk) 14:42, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki creator

Hey, Dmehus! I came to ask about the wiki creator rights that was talked about about three weeks ago. I will ask my question in short form, i.e. when would I get to the user group "wiki creator"? It would interest me a lot! I look forward to your reply. Thank you. --Anton (talk) 17:43, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anton Yes, I haven't forgotten about your interest. There's a lot of activities going on right now. We do have wikis being created in line with our service level expectations, so if I could just ask you to please keep translating and helping out on TestWiki for two to three more weeks until I have more time to prepare some wiki creator-type situation based questions for you, that'd be much appreciated. Thank you. Dmehus (talk) 18:51, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, I do my best translations! I understand your hurry. I, too, have been a little busy, when you dedicate your wiki family and I have been by constructing. Now it would be time to translate the pages so maybe I'll go from here to translate. Thanks to you too. Anton (talk) 13:18, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Anton: I hope I am not to much of a "talk-page stalker" but maybe if you have not already done it I could suggest to you that you read Meta:Wiki creators and the Content Policy so that you can prepare for the questions Dmehus wants to ask you and also for the role of wiki creator if you end up being successful in your endeavor. If it is fine I am also curious, what languages do you know? DeeM28 (talk) 16:37, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Anton To add to what DeeM28 said, if it helps, you could engage with Reception123 to prepare you some situation-based questions for wiki creator. In addition to what DeeM28 recommended reading, I would also recommend you read Meta:Wiki creators guide. Though not required reading for wiki creators, you may encounter previously closed or deleted wikis in reviewing wiki requests, so an understanding of Dormancy Policy is also helpful to wiki creators. planned interwiki administrator reform RfC

Hi Dmehus. I come back to you as I remember a few months ago in December you mentioned via Stewards Noticeboard that you were planning to do a RfC about interwiki administrators during the first quarter of the year 2021. I am curious if you have any updates about that RfC and if you plan on preparing a draft for it soon. If that is not in your plans I would be happy to assist you with it if you would like. DeeM28 (talk) 12:33, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DeeM28 Thank you for your note. Indeed, an interwiki administration RfC was, and is still is, planned; however, there's a fair bit of things going on right now, so its timeline has been back to sometime in the spring 2021 quarter, I'd expect. For example, the board of directors of Miraheze Limited has approved moving Terms of Use enforcement out of the Site Reliability Engineering's scope of authority and into a new board-approved and -managed Trust & Safety group (exact name has not been finalized). As well, we also want to hold a community director election, which involves several steps. Finally, some proposed amendments to Dormancy Policy may take precedence over this draft RfC. There's also less urgency to it, since it's been clarified since Meta administrators are specifically allowed in policy to edit the global interwiki table on Meta, and established conventions and practices are guiding us in this regard. Additionally, the policy does not limit the number of interwiki administrators there may be, so the only real things I'd rather clarify is to lower the requirements for local interwiki administrator and to decide on whether to use Meta Wiki or Loginwiki for the global interwiki table. Nevertheless, not to worry, it will be proposed at some point, but just not yet. Dmehus (talk) 17:57, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your very detailed response. I am looking forward to it and understand that as a steward you are busy and have many responsibilities. DeeM28 (talk) 18:13, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, DeeM28, for your understanding, and I'm very much looking forward to that RfC, as well as other planned RfCs and discussions, later this year. You can expect a full year's worth of community discussions in which to participate. There will also be at least a couple of local community discussions/RfCs on Miraheze Commons and Miraheze Template Wiki later this year that I am planning, though I'm not sure if you participate in those, but will keep you updated if you want. fandom move Miraheze

Hi, how can I fandom move Miraheze wiki data?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 01:20, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Msnhinet8 Thank you for your question. It's a little unclear on what you mean, but I've assumed you're wondering how to migrate your wiki from a Fandom wiki to a Miraheze wiki. First of all, you will need to grab an XML export of your Fandom wiki, then you will need to file a Phabricator task requesting system administrators import your XML. Be sure to ask system administrators to specify the --username-prefix parameter as either --username-prefix="wikia:subdomain" or --username-prefix=wikia:subdomain where subdomain is the subdomain portion of Note that this will not import your images; you will generally have to download those individually and then reupload them to your Miraheze wiki; however, you can enable the MsUpload extension to help the process go more smoothly and quickly. You may also wish to review Moving a wiki to Miraheze, too. Hope that answers your question. Dmehus (talk) 02:42, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ok, thanks.
you can help me my 網路百科 domain change --Msnhinet8 (talk) 03:14, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Msnhinet8 Not sure what you mean, but if you want to change your wiki's subdomain from to something else, this is possible; however, it's actually a system administrator task as it requires changing your wiki's database name. So, you will need to file a Phabricator task for that, too. In simple terms, if it can be done in ManageWiki or on-wiki, Stewards are who you need to ask; if it requires a maintenance script to be run or a change to your wiki's database name, system administrators are who you need to ask. Note, too, that wiki subdomains cannot contain non-alphanumeric characters. So, you could change it to but not You can also request a custom domain, so you could possibly have redirect to, but I personally don't think you'd be able to have the former be your primary wiki address. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 03:28, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. Msnhinet8 (talk) 03:32, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Dmehus (talk) 03:34, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
hi, if change this domain? can?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 11:39, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Msnhinet8 While it might be technically possible, this change isn't a DNS issue, and would like require adding a custom virtual host alias to nginx (Miraheze's web server software). Even then, it would just bee an alias for https://internetpedia.miraheze/wiki/, essentially. I will ask Paladox, John, and Reception123, three system administrators, for you; however, I suspect it's not something they'd likely want to entertain. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 15:37, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. --Msnhinet8 (talk) 23:16, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Recent locks

Hello, where is spam evidence for this or this user?--MrJaroslavik (talk) 16:54, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MrJaroslavik Thank you for the question. In regards to those users, not all spam only accounts actually spam the abuse logs or create obvious spam pages or spam only account user pages. Some are often sleeper accounts, created for later spamming or attempted spamming purposes. These locks were done following the precendent of Reception123 and others based on their usernames alone (i.e., usernames that reference erectile dysfunction remedies, prescription drug names or brand names, etc.). Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 17:35, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Checkuser request

Could you put me as CheckUser on onibuswiki, I have more than 5,000 editions and 30 days of activity there, here at META too, so I don't edit here.

Reason: See the tool and check a suspicious user

✔️I declare that, I do this in good faith. And I know the policies and terms of use for wikis --YellowFrogger (talk) 01:39, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

YellowFrogger Because the CheckUser, as well as the Oversight, tool(s) provide access personally identifying information, these are restricted user groups. While it is in theory possible for two local wiki bureaucrats to undergo separate local elections that meet the requirements of Stewardship for said user groups on a local wiki, in practice, your best bet is to simply request a Steward conduct an investigation, linking to specific diffs as compelling behavioural evidence that user accounts policy, or an appropriate other global policy, is likely to have been violated. You can make said reports via stewards' noticeboard or, alternatively, via #miraheze-cvt connect on IRC. Similarly, requests for suppression of specific revisions can be requested by Stewards, but, unlike the former, this should never never be posted or requested publicly and instead e-mailed to stewards(at) Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 01:48, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Do you to want to make page, edits and upload files on Tankipedia? ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 22:01, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • plus, are you going to make me re-staff again on Tankipedia? ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 22:01, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • ThomasTheTrainFan2 Unfortunately, the only way for you to obtain bureaucrat and sysop rights on your tankipediawiki is for you to hold a local election. Please this local election page on globalvisionwiki for how straightforward your local election page can be. After five to seven days from the start of your election, come back here and ping me to assess your election and grant rights. How's that? Dmehus (talk) 22:07, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • Thanks for taking for this local election thingy, but I don’t know what a local election is, do it in the easy way you, Dmehus can explain, and the a**ess too. ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 22:20, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
        • ThomasTheTrainFan2 Well, you could just copy (and modify/adapt for your wiki and election) the wikitext of that example page (excluding the closing Steward's comments, of course) I showed you above, start a new page in your tankipediawiki, and paste it into your wiki. As a best practice, in your page creation edit summary, write: Imported from mh:globalvision:Local Election to ensure you're compliant with CreativeCommons attribution rules. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 22:24, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I made the Tankipedia page, and it’s called “Local fang-e....”, I did what you said and now I will show you, click on the link. ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 19:56, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ThomasTheTrainFan2 That LGTM, but you need to replace the "candidate" and "election" timeframe sections with your election. Also, you need to remove the closing Steward's comments, as that was from the other wiki's election. Dmehus (talk) 20:00, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the comments. ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 20:04, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's good, but you still need to take out, "DesertWolf for both positions," and replace that with "ThomasTheTrainFan2 for both positions." You also need to update date your election started, replacing 4 February 2021 with 23 February 2021. I will then assess your election and grant rights accordingly on or around 2 March 2021. Dmehus (talk) 20:07, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oof! ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 20:10, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the local election page does have to be accurate, otherwise you'd end up electing the wrong user to those positions. So, I do recommend making those changes so the local election can start. Dmehus (talk) 20:15, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t know what you mean? ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 20:18, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
are you going to respond? ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 22:44, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Your local election looks good. Now you just have to let your election run. Remind me on 2 March 2021 by replying here, not before, to assess your election and grant rights. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 22:45, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
March is my birthday month. ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 22:50, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Um, local um...I don’t know what to, turn me, my local is running. Please turn into wiki founder on Tankipedia. please. ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 19:43, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I blocked ThomasTheTrainFan, my first user but lost password. Yup I'm moving to ThomasTheTrainFan2. See you on Tankipedia 🙂. ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 21:34, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How can I change the theme on Tankipedia? ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk) 23:53, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ThomasTheTrainFan2 If you mean setting your wiki's default skin users will see, this can be done in Special:ManageWiki/extensions, selecting the "Skins" tab. You may also need to set something in Special:ManageWiki/settings. If you want to customize the style or colours of your wiki, this involves modifying your wiki's MediaWiki:Common.css file, for which I am not the best subject matter expert, and so I would recommend joining us on either Discord or IRC at #miraheze connect. Hope this helps. Dmehus (talk) 01:47, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I just got rid of the logo, I can’t do it, can I request it?
—- ThomasTheTrainFan2 (talk)
I'm not quite sure what you mean, you can either (a) upload a new version of the logo or (b) upload a brand new file, sized to 135x135px and then update the $wgLogo parameter in Special:ManageWiki/settings. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 21:53, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will try. ThomasTheTrainFan2 22:24, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You forgot about Ihatelynnloudjrforlife, also known as the main account:

Ihatelynnloudjrforlife is the main account for Ihatelynnloudjr2. If Ihatelynnloudjr2 self-requested a global lock, wouldn't it make sense to lock up the rest of the accounts according to this request here? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 17:58, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't forget about it. There is not behavioural evidence that Ihatelynnloudjrforlife that is related to Ihatelynnloudjr2. Having a similar username does not necessarily mean the users are related. Dmehus (talk) 18:06, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus Oh, I see. So there was nothing on that user either. Well, I guess I should let bygones be bygones. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 18:07, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can you lock Dopictures and perform a CheckUser test to see if Corinne The Mermaid Of The Dreams is his sock?

What both Dopictures and Corinne The Mermaid Of The Dreams did was unacceptable. They vandalized the Woody Woodpecker (2017) page on Loathsome Characters Wiki and no action has been taken on this yet on the wiki. - Trashanimal (talk) 21:35, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Trashanimal I'm not seeing enough similarity between those two users in the edits you referenced. I have, however, reverted the vandalism on that that page on loathsomecharacterswiki for you, and additionally protected the page at autoconfirmed for one week. As you seem to be active on that wiki, you might also want to reach out to DarkMatterMan4500 to request rollbacker and/or autopatrolled rights, which would be helpful for you in reverting vandalism. Dmehus (talk) 21:54, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki request being weird

My wiki request isn't doing anything when I hit edit/comment, just reloading, so could the name be changed to "" and "Infobox/Template Playground" to make it not generic per your comment? Thanks. Arcversin (talk) 17:30, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Arcversin Well, it could be because non-alphanumeric characters aren't permitted in wiki subdomains, as far as I'm aware. However, your subdomain still suggest this is an infobox sandbox/experimentation wiki. If wanting to experiment, why not use Public Test Wiki, requesting administrator permissions that would allow you to develop infoboxes in either template or user namespaces? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 17:34, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Removing the flooder User Group from me

I am done fixing the lint errors and dealing with the wanted categories for today. :) User:R4356th/Signature 18:48, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

R4356th Yes check.svg Done, and thank you for your assistance with fixing the lint errors today. That's tedious work. I noticed your edits had the little b flag on them, though. Did you edit through the API, or use AutoWikiBrowser? If the latter, I'm thinking I really should use AutoWikiBrowser for my WikiGnoming if it allows that. I didn't think AWB allowed that, though. Feel free to request the flood when you need it in the future, as sometimes we forget to add it or don't see it. Dmehus (talk) 18:54, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Did you edit through the API, or use AutoWikiBrowser?" Nope, just the plain old core editing interface. :) "Should I do make a dummy log summary to correct that?" It depends on you. User:R4356th/Signature 18:59, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. If you're not fussed with the log summary, I'll just leave it as it does link to your diff. Dmehus (talk) 19:03, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Need help

I want to delete all the MediaWiki pages of my personal wiki. These are experimental from other wikis I imported. Now I don't need it, it's hard to delete by hand, so you need help. ~SHEKH (Talk) 02:36, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SHEKH Have you tried seeing if they are recent enough for Special:Nuke to work? Oh wait, they're imports, so that won't work. I don't understand how to file a Phabricator task. So I would be very happy if you could do it for me ~SHEKH (Talk) 21:42, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About merging my account

So about a week ago I asked if it was possible to unattach my account from numerous wikis, and you and RhinosF1 told me that the reason needs to be strong enough. I responded with my reason, but never got a response. Here's my response and reason for wanting to unattach my account from some wikis: "The reason why I’m wanting to unattach some wikis is because they’re either closed wikis or wikis I have no plans to ever revisit, so that way those wikis don’t clutter my global account info and make it a bit easier to navigate. Is that a good enough reason?" --DeciduousWater534 (talk) 21:42, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DeciduousWater534 I mean, from my perspective, that's a reasonable request for unattaching some accounts from one global account and merging and attaching them into another global account, as we do accept global rename requests for virtually any reason. Looking at your global attached accounts, though, was actually surprised that you only had 54 attached wikis, so I don't really see a particularly cluttered global accounts listing. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 21:47, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, so where do I go to make this request (provided the total number of attached accounts isn't too low)? --DeciduousWater534 (talk) 05:25, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is quite low, but it's also a very low priority. This is fine for the purposes of the request, but I have some other more pressing things to take care of, and can take a look at this in a couple weeks, if that's alright? I'll reach out to you on Discord closer to that timeframe. Dmehus (talk) 06:25, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I can wait. I'm in no big rush to get this done. --DeciduousWater534 (talk) 02:18, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I completely forgot about this request until just now. I'm guessing you still have a bunch of other higher priority stuff to do before getting to this? --DeciduousWater534 (talk) 22:05, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for sending you a message about this – I don't know what the right place would be. I see the weird text "miraheze-sidebar-Donate" in the sidebar. Below that is the Donate link. That text should probably be changed, and I guess it comes from the MediaWiki namespace, or MediaWiki:Miraheze-sidebar-donate. You should probably write something like "Donate to Miraheze" or "Donations" etc. Or is this "bug" only visible to me? Thank you. --Anton (talk) 06:21, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anton No, I see it as well, and I'm not quite sure exactly what is wrong. I've referenced the new Miraheze Magic interface message in MediaWiki:Sidebar, but that seems not to have resolved it. I'm wondering if it's a matter of it being about a one week delay until the messages are uploaded to, perhaps? Dmehus (talk) 06:24, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Could you create that MediaWiki page I just said? Maybe it will help? I can also take the matter to Phabricator if it doesn't work, and if it doesn't work then would you delete it MediaWiki page? --Anton (talk) 06:28, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Anton Well, I'd prefer not to do that, as the whole point of MirahezeMagic interface messages are to reduce the need to create local interface message overrides. It should be resolved by Sunday. If not, I'll have a system administrator revert that commit as something is likely broken. Dmehus (talk) 06:38, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Write **Donations to MediaWiki:Sidebar and delete "miraheze-sidebar-donate"? --Anton (talk) 06:52, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

IM STILL ALIVE Though we normally prefer to have wikis closed in accordance with Dormancy Policy, in your case, the venkonwiki appears to be prevented from going inactive because of user account creations (possibly spam only accounts). Help me

Hi, I can't login my personal Wiki, When logging in, the text comes The supplied credentials could not be authenticated. But I was able to log in to another wiki. Please help me. ~SHEIKH (Talk) 07:55, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like you're logged into this wiki. Can you please try visiting your wiki again? While not exactly the error I would've thought it might be, you might try clearing all your Miraheze cookies, as well as any Miraheze cookies associated to custom domains. Then, from Loginwiki in incognito mode, go to Special:UserLogin and Special:UserLogout. Once that's done, clear your cookies for * and any custom domains hosted by Miraheze, then login again, and you should be good to go. Dmehus (talk) 08:04, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The same problem is visible even after you work the way you said it. ~SHEIKH (Talk) 08:55, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SHEIKH Hrm, I'm not sure. Do you have two-factor authentication enabled on your account and, if so, have you assigned the applicable local user rights allowing you to use two-factor authentication on your local shekhwiki? Dmehus (talk) 14:44, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have two-factor authentication turned on. Well, can I never login like i used to? ~SHEIKH (Talk) 15:21, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SHEIKH Hrm, that's strange, I'm not sure then. Can you please file a Phabricator task then, including a screenshot of the exact error message(s) you're receiving on which wiki(s) the problem occurs? Be sure to obfuscate or otherwise black out/redact any personally identifying information (i.e., hash tokens, IP addresses, etc.; your wiki username is obviously fine) as may be visible before uploading your screenshot. You should also link to this discussion on my user talk page, so system administrators have sufficient context in determining what has been attempted. Dmehus (talk) 15:24, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Brother, I have no idea about my Fabricator ticket so I have given you a message, or I would have opened the ticket in the Fabricator earlier. Shall I mail you a screenshot of my problem? You can tell you what's needed, I'm giving it. ~SHEIKH (Talk) 17:05, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SHEIKH No, that's not necessary. Phabricator is the technical support ticketing system for raising technical issues which can't be resolved on-wiki by Stewards, Interwiki Administrators, or other functionaries. In this case, I've exhausted possible options as to any on-wiki causes, so system administrators will need to investigate this for you. You can create a Phabricator by clicking that link, and then on the signup or login page, sign in using your MediaWiki login credentials on Miraheze. This will use OAuth on Meta. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 17:12, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What happened to it. ~SHEIKH (Talk) 18:13, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you. I've added a comment to the ticket on Phabricator. Let's follow along there. Would you also like a system administrator to rename your Phabricator account to SHEIKH from SHEKH? Those are not done with standard on-wiki global rename requests and have to be requested separately. Dmehus (talk) 18:28, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is now Yes check.svg resolved. Please see my comment on Phab for the cause and fix. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 23:38, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus and RhinosF1: Thank you, the problem has been solved, I've been able to login. I want to know why this happened. I want to know more. How do I change the name in the Fabricator? ~SHEIKH (Talk) 00:07, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SHEIKH The short answer is it was a Miraheze configuration issue with the HAWelcome extension's default system user name being set to the sitename of your wiki. When your global rename from SHEKH to SHEIKH was processed, this posed a problem. So, Universal Omega has implemented a fix to set the default value for the HAWelcome extension system user to HAWelcome rather than the sitename. An explanatory note has also been added to Special:ManageWiki/settings for the $wgHAWelcomeWelcomeUsername MediaWiki variable. Regarding changing your Phabricator username, you can request this on Phabricator. I'll open a ticket for you? Dmehus (talk) 00:11, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SHEIKH Phabricator ticket #T6948 has opened requesting your Phabricator username be changed from SHEKH to SHEIKH. A Phabricator administrator should be able to process this for you. Dmehus (talk) 00:16, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I get a solution from you on any problem, so thank you and love for you. — SHEIKH (Talk) 00:45, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SHEIKH Yes check.svg No problem! My pleasure, and happy to help. :) Dmehus (talk) 01:22, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is it on public? I guess no one is interested on bugs. Guarddogzpit (talk) 00:14, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Guarddogzpit: I am responsible for my own interest on behalf of Dmehus. What do you mean? Is that (Bugsworld) a wiki? Or is there a bug somewhere in the wiki? Of course we are interested if there is a bug somewhere. Anton (talk) 17:50, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Anton I believe Guarddogzpit means their Bugsworld wiki and is seeking tips on how to invite and encourage users to edit their specialized encyclopedia wiki on bugs. Dmehus (talk) 18:18, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template redirects

As you put as a reason for deletion, I did those template redirects only for a good purpose. The intention was just to make it easier to find the right template when a vandal visited here this morning and I didn’t immediately try to find the right warning template on its talk page. But I still understand Miraheze and you well, so I don’t mind even deleting the templates. Thanks for that :) --Anton (talk) 17:48, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anton No problem at all. I figured why you probably created them, coming from the Wikimedia projects and English Wikipedia. Yeah, we used to have the template named deleteme, which was even harder to find. In general, if unsure about which template name to use, I'd recommend starting at Category:Templates and working your way down. Dmehus (talk) 18:15, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About that revert you made:

The reason why I added that tag was because there was something really sketchy about how the user wrote it. There was another user who wrote the same thing on their user page. Although I don't know if that really matters at this point, so I'll just go along with it. In the meantime, I've been figuring out which templates to add here, as you suggested for me to add them to the templatewiki and tweaked the Twinkle preferences for me. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 21:03, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also Dmehus, I hate to say it, but Anna Frodesiak retired from Wikipedia 7 months ago, and hasn't even returned ever since. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 21:30, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I had no doubt in my mind this was an impersonation case. In these cases, the delete wasn't the correct way to handle this. Rather, it would better just to direct message a Steward or Global Sysop or report in #miraheze connect. The Twinkle templates just add extraneous edits that aren't needed and we invariably either have to revert the template or delete the page anyway. Hope that makes sense. Dmehus (talk) 22:05, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'll remember that for next time. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:46, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, Yes check.svg sounds good! Dmehus (talk) 02:37, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SHEIKH Thank you for the invitation. Indeed, I've now subscribed to that task as it appears to be related to this related issue that was originally reported on stewards' noticeboard. Fortunately, it's now been Yes check.svg resolved. Dmehus (talk) 15:27, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I've got a lot of things to do, so am quite busy. Are you able to ask on our Discord server, articulating a clear question, or series of questions, related to what specifically you're having difficulty with creating navboxes for your wiki? Alternatively, you could also ask on IRC, usually in #miraheze connect, though #miraheze-offtopic connect would also work. Dmehus (talk) 01:51, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Me and my friend can't configure how to put Structured Discussions (Flow) on my friend's wiki. Is there possible to solved it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by The Villager2001X (talkcontribs) 11:21, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Villager2001X You just need to go into Special:ManageWiki/extensions (on your wiki, of course), select StructuredDiscussions (may be listed under Flow), and then select the namespaces (if any) you want to use StructuredDiscussions by default. The latter is done in Special:ManageWiki/namespaces. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 11:26, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deja vu once again with another Content Policy violating wiki:

Sorry to bother you again about wikis that violate the Content policy, but I have discovered yet again, another wiki violating the Content policies. I'm investigating a wiki called dongningwl25wiki, and just you wait till you have a look at the main page. That isn't the only focus as there are multiple problematic articles with similar issues in line with 2 other wikis that were locked and one being deleted. This one has some personal information such as phone numbers, real names, and birth dates, and I have found several others I want you to have a look at with these links I will provide you with. Just go through them one by one. Here are the links:

As you already may have guessed by now, all the articles that I linked you to are problematic Content Policy violating articles filled with the issues I have listed above and below the links.

This one is just an insult towards people with down syndrome, and while this one is hypocritical as this wiki is filled with private and/or sensitive information. Keep in mind that they aren't really respecting the Privacy Policy in any way, especially not since that wiki I'm reporting has these problems, and I hope you and the other Stewards can look into this as soon as you can. Regarding an RfGR Close

Hi, why did you state that the request has been closed per UCP? You are a Steward. Also, why close something so early? User:R4356th/Signature 14:16, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

+1 to second question. I asked him, he replied, but vote was already closed.--MrJaroslavik (talk) 14:18, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
R4356th Yes, but I'm also an autoconfirmed user on Meta, so closure in accordance with Meta:User close policy is the best closure here. In terms of closing it so early, we've certainly done that many times in the past where requestors make good-faith but unclear requests for advanced global permissions too soon, and that was the reason Meta:User close policy was adopted. I would've been fine with you leaving WikiJS' responses in the request, as it was largely an edit conflict. Dmehus (talk) 14:20, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As always, you are show policy to excuse your mistake. Where is common sense? How this was unclear request? Also w:WP:LISTEN as always,--MrJaroslavik (talk) 14:48, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hrm, how is it not common sense and closure per the policy? After all, as I've said, it is common decency to candidates to close their request early, especially when the policy allows it, rather than prolong the request for what was a forgone conclusion. Dmehus (talk) 14:52, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The UCP is clearly the correct option. It's the only policy we have which allows requests to be closed early where the candidate is unlikely to succeed and hasn't withdrawn. The GS policy which Stewards are bound to enforce doesn't give a provision for that. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 14:27, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, plus to add to what RhinosF1 said, it's really in fairness to the candidate where the prevailing or, indeed, only view expressed was that this request was too soon, as I'm sure they'd prefer to have only several opposing views versus, say, ten opposing views. Dmehus (talk) 14:29, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"Yes, but I'm also an autoconfirmed user on Meta, so closure in accordance with Meta:User close policy is the best closure here." That is very funny and makes no sense. Is a user group you are automatically given by simply sticking around for some time more important than a community-given advanced user group to you? "In terms of closing it so early, we've certainly done that many times in the past where requestors make good-faith but unclear requests for advanced global permissions too soon" Right except for this was not an unclear request. @RhinosF1: "It's the only policy we have which allows requests to be closed early where the candidate is unlikely to succeed and hasn't withdrawn." What's the hurry? User:R4356th/Signature 14:39, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
R4356th To your question, "Is a user group you are automatically given by simply sticking around for some time more important than a community-given advanced user group to you," you raise a good point, but for whatever reason, the community established the threshold for closure according to Meta:User close policy the autoconfirmed threshold by which users can close early. In terms of your last question, I would just refer you to my comment above. I closed it out of fairness to the candidate. If they'd prefer the close be reverted and the request reopened, I'd certainly consider doing that for them, but in fairness, one of the main reasons the community adopted Meta:User close policy was to give respect to candidates putting themselves forward clearly too soon. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 14:46, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Your choice of the User Close Policy violated the policy. The policy says "method for trusted, but non-privileged" (emphasis mine), which obviously does not include you as you are a Steward and Stewards are in charge of handling Wiki Creator RfPs. I briefly skimmed through the RfC that led to the creation of the policy I had read it earlier) and it appears to me that the idea was to allow non-admins and non-Stewards to close RfPs. User:R4356th/Signature 18:08, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Apologies for the delayed reply. With respect, I disagree. While I hadn't looked at the actual RfC in question recently, I don't see how the close was contrary to the approved policy. Proposal 1 allowed any user that was at least autoconfirmed (or above) to close requests. It does not specifically preclude Stewards from closing discussions early. Moreover, the close was not made in my Steward capacity; it was made in my capacity as a regular community member who is at least autoconfirmed and who happens to also be a Meta administrator. So, I would also argue your point that Meta:User close policy was to allow non-Meta administrators to close is also not correct, as that would also preclude closure by RhinosF1, Reception123, and others. Proposal 2 was approved and allows for a Steward to overturn incorrect Meta:User close policy closes. Since I closed the discussion not in a Steward capacity, any other Steward can always feel free to revert the close if they felt it was incorrect. Even if you still feel the policy is vague and unclear, this is a reason for drafting an RfC to clarify the policy that it specifically precludes any user at or above sysop from closing, as RhinosF1 has suggested below. Dmehus (talk) 18:36, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's a waste of the communities time and effort when a request has no chance of succeeding. The community specifically made this provision and approved it by RfC. If you want policy changing, take it to RfC. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 14:49, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's WP:NOTNOW though rather to TOOSOON ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 14:50, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RhinosF1: "If you want policy changing, take it to RfC." That is just bluntly aggressive and baseless. Regards. User:R4356th/Signature 18:10, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

About self-approving wikis:

Are wiki creators allowed to self-approve their wikis once they are requested? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:06, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If not, then I'm terribly sorry. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:14, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
DarkMatterMan4500 Yes, you can self-approve your own wiki. That wasn't the issue at all. I just wanted to place the request on hold until a CreateWiki category was created for your wiki, so the wiki could be created in that category instead of uncategorized. Hope that makes sense. Dmehus (talk) 15:16, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Oh, okay. So, I guess there's no foul here. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:17, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
DarkMatterMan4500 Nope, it was just a minor request. Not a significant issue at all. Dmehus (talk) 15:18, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Local Election Request

I am requesting a local bureaucrat election for, because no bureaucrat seems to be active on the wiki. I was wondering if you could put a sitenotice for my election, and if you could un-mark the wiki as inactive. Thanks, WikiJS talk 18:46, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About those recent sockpuppetry we kept requesting to get dealt with:

Please unblacklist links from TheTopTens

Hi Doug, (I have already asked this in rotten websites wiki and they directed me to go to here" "Miraheze Stewards even added this site to the blacklist of links to external sites by the spam filter due to its toxic nature." However, you could make the point that Miraheze allow links from Twitter, which could be considered even more toxic than TheTopTens. The same could be said for Tumblr, which is arguably even more toxic than TheTopTens. Plus, allowing links from TheTopTens could help improve TheTopTens page on Rotten Websites by allowing people to link the lists mentioned in the article. Plus, there hasn't been any big drama on TheTopTens since 2019, so it doesn't make sense to keep it blacklisted due to it's "toxic nature" when most of the toxicity is gone nowadays. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noner2 (talkcontribs) 17:02, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Noner2 Thank you for the request. I would disagree that TheTopTens is akin to Tumblr and Twitter. It seems pretty spammy to me, and, perhaps due to its anonymous nature, it does cause a lot of problems with users creating "hate lists" of Miraheze users that they then link to as "sources" on Miraheze. Can you give me some examples of the sort of things you're wanting to link to on TheTopTens, to better assess this request? Dmehus (talk) 17:07, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, in my defense, I have seen that you allow links from encyclopedia dramatica, which literally gives you a virus when going there.
Anyways, on certain pages on miraheze Rotten Websites Wiki, I would like to add some links to the pages, such as TheTopTens page, the Rebecca Spark page, etc. which could give a reader better access to examples of what is being said, as the searching system on thetoptens is pretty unoptimized. Some things I would like to link to on thetoptens are like:
Certain pages which are about a infamous user with a thetoptens
Examples of immature lists
Examples of certain categories of users, etc. Noner2 (talk) 02:29, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Noner2 Thank you for your reply. Can you e-mail me the link to Encyclopedia Dramatica website that is potentially harmful? If it's as you describe, then that would be worth adding to our spam blacklist. There may be legitimate cases for adding specific examples to TheTopTens page on rottenwebsiteswiki, so local bureaucrats on that wiki should be able to complete an edit request for you as they have the necessary permissions to override any title blacklist entries. Would you be able to ask DeciduousWater534 at their local user talk page to add the specific TheTopTens links to the page on that wiki? Dmehus (talk) 14:15, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright I shall do that. However, if it's possibe, you could unblock links on thetoptens in my sandbox on rotten websites wiki, then I can copy thetoptens page and add the links i wish to add, and then I could send it to @DeciduousWater534 on rotten websites wiki Noner2 (talk) 05:29, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About some posts I made in the cvt channel earlier.

About a day ago, I made a post on the Discord server about SephSpace continuing to insult our wikis and its users and provided some evidence, but that post got buried by other posts shortly afterwards. Did you or any or the other staff members happen to see it? The reason for asking is because I never got a response about it. --DeciduousWater534 (talk) 19:27, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DeciduousWater534 I did see it, yes, but this is more complex as it relates to a dispute between multiple Reception wiki factions, and will likely require some sort of Steward mediation in the medium term. In the meantime, my best advice would be for you guys to stick to your wikis and for that faction to stick to their wikis. Dmehus (talk) 19:31, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay, thanks for the clarification. --DeciduousWater534 (talk) 04:01, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. :) Dmehus (talk) 14:00, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Concerned about Wiki Request #17490

Hello, as you can see from my writing here, I declined Xiaoshenbike4's wiki request mainly because I was concerned that approving it would've breached the Content Policy from day one. If you look at his edits on a locked wiki, there has been further edits, in which I can't see mainly because 1, it's a locked wiki, and second, further editing on that locked wiki that I reported about 2 weeks ago shouldn't even be possible as it had serious Content Policy violations, and should've been closed as well. I hope it's not too much to prevent further editing on the dongningwl25wiki. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 14:15, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DarkMatterMan4500 Yep, I saw both things you mentioned, and am already looking into it. Actions will be taken when the wiki is formally dealt with. Good decline, and report. Dmehus (talk) 14:18, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How many weeks would it take to have the wikis I reported to be fully reviewed, if I may ask? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 14:30, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, decisions to close and/or delete wikis in accordance with Content Policy are not taken lightly. Rather, they are reviewed thoroughly, discussed with other Stewards, and decisions on what step(s) to take are discussed. Secondly, please do remember that we're all volunteers here. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 14:33, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: As you wish. I'll keep that in mind. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 14:34, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your understanding, and please do. :) Dmehus (talk) 14:35, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Keep up the good work and the review, and good luck. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 14:41, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WikiEducation will be an alternative to Wikipedia, where the main difference is that the deletion policy will be far more lenient with regard to notability requirements. Basically, WikiEducation will be a near-indiscriminate collection of information in the form of articles on any topic.

WikiEducation will be an open encyclopedia, journal and news source anyone can contribute to. WikiEducation is hopeful to be launched in April 2021.

The rise of Wikipedia's aggressive deletion policies particularly regarding 'non-notable' topics and articles published by Wikipedia newbies has been one of the primary motivations to create WikiEducation. I therefore feel that Wikipedia no longer serves the public interest as an encyclopedia that 'anyone can edit.' Seeking to expand on the concept of a publicly modifiable real-time publication, I would like to create WikiEducation to serve this need.

WikiEducation will actively search out Wikipedia editors who are having their articles deleted and (if possible) retrieves their article and posts it on WikiEducation, sending its creator a message telling them this.

Unlike Wikipedia, WikiEducation will have no notability requirements, and accepts articles on all topics which are legal including news, humour, internet phenomena, websites, blogs, and projects. In addition, original research, which is fundamentally forbidden from Wikipedia, will be permitted on WikiEducation.

As such, WikiEducation's deletion criteria will also be quite simpler than Wikipedia's. Basically, any content that does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion will likely to remain on the site forever.

As an example, an article on the online gaming term ganking was deleted from Wikipedia for being a neologism with a few independent sources, but an article on the same subject hopefully will exist on WikiEducation without controversy.

Although WikiEducation does not have requirements for notability, sources are still to be required, otherwise material may be challenged and/or removed by other editors.

I am Tirsiak Smith, and thank you for reading!

Kind regards, --Tirsiak (talk) 20:23, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tirsiak This is good now, so I'll approve that. Can you just assure me that if a non-notable person has an article published about them on your wiki, and they request deletion of said article, will you honour it? Dmehus (talk) 20:26, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If they no longer want their article that is on WikiEducation, then yes, we can delete it for them without no hesitation. --Tirsiak (talk) 20:29, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes check.svg Great. Thanks. I'll go ahead and approve this then. Dmehus (talk) 20:34, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Is it okay if you can assist by finding some editors that will be interested in this project? Cheers! --Tirsiak (talk) 20:37, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Tirsiak I'm afraid I'm quite busy, but you're welcome to explain the purpose of and scope for your wiki in one thread at community noticeboard and invite willing editors to assist with your project now that it's been created. Alternatively, you are free to ask in #miraheze connect on IRC or on Discord, provided you don't ask for volunteers every day or something. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 20:40, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You can also list your wiki at Gazetteer of wikis, too. Dmehus (talk) 20:41, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! can i create a bot for maintenance job?--Angelo Pisani (talk) 16:44, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Angelo Pisani It depends on if you want an automated bot account, run on a cron schedule, or just an alternate account that is bot flagged to perform routine, mass editing tasks. There are a variety of ways to accomplish this, including with some extensions we have and the AutoWikiBrowser tool. If the former, then you will need to probably set up Pywikibot. I'd recommend joining us at #miraheze connect on IRC or on Discord with more specific questions regarding this. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 17:00, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

More sock accounts and vandalism are still occurring on the incubatorwiki

Please do something about this pointless war. There's too much edit warring and sockpuppetry still continuing. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:54, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the CVT Action Log

I have got two questions regarding your entries in the log. Why do you always mention "Steward action"; how are Stewards different from the CVT? Why do you include personal comments like "grossly offensive" in the log entries? Thanks. User:R4356th/Signature 20:35, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for the questions. I'm not sure, I guess I don't really need to mention "steward action." I probably mainly noted "steward action" to differentiate from logged steward actions that aren't done from the perspective of counter-vandalism where I will typically note it as "non-CVT Steward action." For example, there are occasions where I've used the CVT action log to log non-CVT actions that aren't requested elsewhere (i.e., stewards' noticeboard). To answer your second question, Stewards and Global Sysops form the Counter Vandalism Team, the latter of which does not perform actions on private wikis or opted out wikis. I don't regard "grossly offensive" as a particularly personal comment, so I'm not quite sure what you mean by that question. Also, note that the CVT action log is not a mandatory log; some stewards prefer not to log their actions, and even some Global Sysops do not log actions. I generally prefer to log most actions, though. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 20:48, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If its not an CVT action, then why is it being logged on a CVT log... Zppix (Meta | talk to me) 21:13, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I did discuss it with at least one other Steward and Global Sysop and both had no objections to that. I mean, we could create a separate Steward action log somewhere, but then we might end up creating too many logs. Dmehus (talk) 21:22, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"I probably mainly noted "steward action" to differentiate from logged steward actions that aren't done from the perspective of counter-vandalism where I will typically note it as "non-CVT Steward action." While there are indeed some actions which haven't been "done from the perspective of counter-vandalism" (10 when I checked it), you have included "Steward action" in all of the logged actions regardless of the circumstances. Those are the logs I was (and still am, as it hasn't been answered) asking about. I also share Zppix's concern regarding logging non-CVT actions on cvtwiki as those make the log confusing but that is a minor concern and could be solved by you maintaining a log of these somewhere on Meta in your userspace. And by personal comment, I meant personal opinion. "the CVT action log is not a mandatory log; some stewards prefer not to log their actions, and even some Global Sysops do not log actions" That is something I am also concerned about and plan to raise soon if not addressed. CVT not being transparent enough makes me question how much we, the community, can trust them. User:R4356th/Signature 14:09, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
With regard to including "Steward action" in the CVT action log entries for CVT-related actions, that is likely because it has been custom among some Stewards and Global Sysops to include "Steward action" or "Global Sysop action" in their local wiki log summaries, to differentiate actions taken by local and global actors; however, as the CVT action log is maintained by global functionaries, it really is a bit redundant to include that verbiage in the CVT action log, so you'll note that as of yesterday, I've curtailed that practice of including the redundant verbiage in my CVT action log log entries, in part per your above suggestion. As to including non-CVT actions in the CVT action log, I log them there because there is Void-bot that provides for easy logging as opposed to the manual editing required to maintain a separate log. So unless we set up a separate Void-bot-maintained Steward action log somewhere on CVT Wiki, on Meta, or somewhere else, I could either (a) continue logging them on the CVT action log, differentiated as such, or (b) cease the practice of logging non-CVT Steward actions not discussed elsewhere as there really aren't very many anyway. Which would you personally prefer? To your latter concern, yes, we could surely have an RfC or CN discussion (likely the latter, if only one proposal) to make mandatory logging of certain CVT actions by Stewards and Global Sysops. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 14:38, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A sock of Leerdoman74 came back:

Hello, you might remember when you told me that Leerdoman74 wasn't violating the user accounts policy, right? Well, yesterday he was locked for trolling and CoC issues, then came back as LeordoMan67 and admitted to it when I asked him the question. He denied it at first, but then admitted it by claiming that I "disgusted" him to no end. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 12:21, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to

Create wiki

Good evening @Dmehus:! This is my first time here, please tell me how long will it take to process an application for creating a wiki? Thank you. -- Burunduk95 (talk) 17:28, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Burunduk95 It looks you've requested your your wiki correctly, but as we don't speak Russian, we rely on Google Translate. Looking at the description length, it's likely this description will prove insufficient, so can you go back into your wiki request and add to, but do not replace, that description by defining your wiki's purpose, scope, and type of content in a few sentences? Be sure to add a purpose and category for your wiki. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 17:41, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I described it in English, so it will be more convenient for you, of course I don't know what I wrote there, but somehow so:) I didn't understand about the category, it's in English, but I don't know what category to specify. Thanks. -- Burunduk95 (talk) 18:52, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Burunduk95 Thank you. That's much better, but I still have one question, which I've replied on the wiki request. Can you reply on the wiki request by adding a comment? Dmehus (talk) 18:56, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Already added like. -- Burunduk95 (talk) 19:02, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

About the Jackson case:

So, how's it going with that discussion with other Stewards regarding Jackson's World? I know I've sent the same message on Discord, but this is just in case. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 20:58, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dmehus

Please I need the Page Assessment extension to be installed on my wiki. Can you help please?? Ugochimobi (talk) 17:40, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dmehus: Please help me install it Ugochimobi (talk) 21:24, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi I could probably try installing this via a GitHub pull request, to fulfill your Phabricator request, but if not, I'm sure it'll get done in the next day or two. Dmehus (talk) 21:34, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please try @Dmehus: Thanks in anticipation!! Ugochimobi (talk) 21:44, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Dmehus: Good day :) How is it going please?? Ugochimobi (talk) 15:18, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi Good news! PageAssessments is now Yes check.svg installed on Miraheze. Dmehus (talk) 15:27, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wow.. Yahh Many Thanks man. I seriously love you.. @Dmehus: Ugochimobi (talk) 15:44, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi No problem. Reception123 helped me with my part, and also did the actual installation part (with Git). It's installed with the default configuration (works on all talk namespaces and subprojects are not enabled). You can let us know if you have a need to tag non-talk pages with WikiProjects and/or to using task forces (sub-projects). Dmehus (talk) 15:49, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks man @Dmehus: Ugochimobi (talk) 15:51, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dmehus

I was wondering I could create a sitenotice for my wiki, of course I know that it's MediaWiki:Sitenotice, but all I need is a sample where I can be inspired in creating for my wiki, so I was wondering if you could help me copy the code in the Meta centralnotice so I can edit and get mine for my wiki??? Ugochimobi (talk) 14:46, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ugochimobi You mean just the template for the central notice that you can paste in MediaWiki:Sitenotice? If so, that should be publicly visible for you to retrieve. Let me get the page. The thing is, though, it's actual HTML, not wikitext, so you'd have to rework it. Dmehus (talk) 15:32, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi Have a look at MediaWiki:Centralnotice-template-Fundraiser2021 and see if that helps. Dmehus (talk) 15:35, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thanks @Dmehus: My brain needs to get to work now, Let me see how I can modify that 🥱😉 Ugochimobi (talk) 15:41, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Please I have an issue with the Wikibase repository in famepedia, I think it's coming from the wikibase settings in my wiki, you know, I have connected the both wikis together (famepedia, famedata) but in some articles I see Articles without Wikidata item in the Category line and based on the understanding i got from the Wikibase/documentation page on Mediawiki, I think its an issue from the installation
I don't know if you can possibly help me edit the configuration settings of wikibase for my wiki by Replacing all Wikidata with FAMEData or what ever the letter case may be.... Please........ Ugochimobi (talk) 16:13, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Did you sort it out?? Ugochimobi (talk) 21:42, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dmehus there!

Please help me make the Extendedconfirmed user group to autopromote requirements are; 1. 500 edits, 2. 30 days old, must meet all requirements. Ugochimobi (talk) 10:55, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dmehus: Ugochimobi (talk) 16:53, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi I haven't forgotten about your templateeditor protection/restriction level. Have you already created the group, in lowercase and without underscores, on both wikis, and just confirming you want it on both wikis, right? In terms of this question, you can actually do this in this special page. Just make sure you uncheck the box to promote the user only once, if you want to be able to restore the implicit group following the AbuseFilter removing it, as an example. Dmehus (talk) 18:15, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I have the template editor group already for both wikis and YES I need it on both wikis. Ugochimobi (talk) 20:47, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, sounds good. I'll work on that next. Did you recreate your Extendedconfirmed group on Famepedia and/or Famedate wiki, so you could add the autopromotion settings? Dmehus (talk) 20:52, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Yes i created already for both wikis and i just finished setting the autopromotion on FP, heading to FD now. Ugochimobi (talk) 21:01, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, you can help me install interwiki in my 網路百科,this wiki? thanks.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 14:12, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Msnhinet8 I'm not quite sure what you mean. The Interwiki extension is a global extension, installed on all Miraheze wikis. Are you needing an interwiki prefix added to your wiki's Special:Interwiki local interwiki table? If so, what's the wiki and what's the prefix you want to use? Dmehus (talk) 14:15, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Because the future I could do new the other languages wiki so I want to install interwiki extension, thanks.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 14:17, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • and, you can set up my zh internetpedia this wiki use Exempt from Inactivity this features in my wiki?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 14:19, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • Msnhinet8 Regarding your question point, so this can be done by interwiki administrators or stewards by adding interwiki or interlanguage prefixes. However, until you have another language wiki, it's not needed. You can also hold a local election on your wiki to request local interwiki-admin on your wiki(s), and then request a Steward to assess your election after 5-7 days or so. An election by acclamation (single candidate with no votes) is also possible. These guidelines should help you. Regarding your second request, as a brand new wiki, please message me when you've written approximately 40-60 content pages of at least a start-class. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 14:25, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ok,very thanks.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 14:31, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should mywikipedia have Discord?--Iron Sword 22 (talk) 20:52, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 22 It really depends. Discord servers can be very useful communication mediums on collaboratively edited wikis, rather than having on-wiki discussions. How many active contributors does your wiki have? If it has more than, say, five active, regular editors, then I'd say a Discord server could be useful. If not, then perhaps you might just want a Discord group DM or something. Even if your wiki has fewer than five active, regular editors, you can add a #wiki-feed channel to your Discord server, to monitor its RecentChanges, so that may be a good reason to have one. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 23:20, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Doug, will you please lock this account globally and my other alternative account Olipino (alt2). I don't want to use these anymore. And wiil you please transfer my rights on public test wiki to Olipino (Alt). All the three accounts are mine. I can confirm. Juslit (talk) 18:44, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Juslit was my main account.
Note: I was previously Olipino (Alt). Flarehot (talk) 18:53, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Juslit I'll take care of the TestWiki rights transfer in a moment, sure, but with regard to your second alternate account, I can't find that in Special:CentralAuth. Did you ever login to that account? If not, it may exist only as a second alternate local only account. Otherwise, double-check the spelling of the username please. Dmehus (talk) 18:54, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Have a look here it was created by me. But I don't know it's password now. Flarehot (talk) 19:00, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks. Since you created it logged in and hadn't yet logged into it, that can actually be merged and deleted. Would you like it merged into Flarehot or Juslit? Dmehus (talk) 19:07, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flarehot, since Juslit will be locked. Flarehot (talk) 19:12, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, doing the first step now then. Dmehus (talk) 19:13, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flarehot Yes check.svg Done the requested user merge of the local only Olipino (alt2) user account into the surviving Flarehot user account. Now you want Juslit to be locked, right? Please reply with that account, if possible. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 19:30, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus, sorry for my late response. Yes, I want this account (Juslit) to be locked. Juslit (talk) 22:47, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flarehot Your Juslit account has now been Yes check.svg locked per your self-request. Dmehus (talk) 23:38, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know anyone that likes comic books here?--Iron Sword 22 (talk) 23:57, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 22 Unfortunately, I do not know of anyone off hand who enjoys comic books. I know Lakelimbo is a Pokemon fan and has his Pokemundo Wiki (might be in Portguese Brasilian though, but could be a multi-lingual wiki; not too sure). Dmehus (talk) 00:43, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Board

Hello Doug. Hope you fine. I was just patrolling around and saw R4356th talking about the Board in this diff. I don't know what the problem is there with the R4356th and neither I want to know. I have nothing to do with it. But I'd like to know what the Board is. Thanks, Flarehot (talk) 13:46, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Flarehot The Board refers to the Board of Directors of Miraheze Limited, the legal entity, a UK-based not-for-profit corporation, behind Miraheze. It is mainly concerned with ensuring Miraheze Limited, and the wiki farm it hosts, complies with all applicable UK and Europe laws and regulations, mainly around data protection and privacy, information security, and other laws, as well as developing fundraising strategies, approving or amending the budget as proposed by the Director of Site Reliability Engineering. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 14:32, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thanks! Why isn't interwiki transclution enabled here? Flarehot (talk) 14:46, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To wiki creator?

Hey! Now that we unfortunately lost two important wiki creators, would now be the right time for me to apply for it right? Or is it still considered too early? Thanks. --Anton (talk) 08:57, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anton Thanks for wanting to volunteer! I don't think it is too early; actually, I was going to approach you about volunteering as our first Finnish translation administrator, but perhaps we could use another wiki creator (a Finnish one, too). I'll try and get around to asking you some situation-based questions about Content Policy on your user talk page later today or, worse case, tomorrow, so that can link to your responses when you request the wikicreator bit. Dmehus (talk) 14:23, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thank you! I am happy to volunteer with Miraheze. I have also considered making a donation, but I have not yet done so..if you do not have time to ask questions on my discussion page today, I look forward to seeing them tomorrow. I will read the Content Policy page you linked to after this post, and learn more about the Wiki creator instructions. Anton (talk) 15:55, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Userright/Permission creation

Hello @Dmehus: I currently need the following permissions for by both wikis

  1. Permission name userrights, Permission Message Edit all user rights
  2. Permission name templateeditor, Permission Message Edit protected templates

Then for my editextendedconfirmedprotected, I want it to be renamed to extendedconfirmed as I'm having some conflict with the present permission name. Please.... Ugochimobi (talk) 15:37, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ugochimobi userrights is a restricted user right, only available to community-elected Stewards and the Board-appointed Trust and Safety group for a very narrow set of conditions (principally, Terms of Use enforcement investigations). So that won't be possible. I'm not sure what you're wanting to do, but if you're just wanting to rename the user right for the protection level, I would personally recommend against it as the user right, should, ideally be different than the user group. As to the template editor protection level, I'll try and get to that in the next week, but am currently focused on trying to get a handle on the spambots. I hope you can appreciate the delay. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 15:43, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Is it not possible to create a localuserrights permission? I mean just for local wikis cuz I totally understand that userrights is a global permission but wanted to give that edit all user right permission to my founder user group. And for the editextendedconfirmedprotected renaming to extendedconfirmed won't that be possible. As long as Miraheze remains a voluntary organization then who am I to get angry about delay. :) Ugochimobi (talk) 15:52, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi We have this already, in Special:ManageWiki/permissions? Just go into your founder user group and add all user groups to the user group's permissions. Dmehus (talk) 16:04, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To your latter question, while yes it might be technically possible to rename that user right, my concern is for potential for conflicts between the exact named user group and the protection level user right, so my preference would be to see you have the Extendedconfirmed user group on the one wiki and extendedconfirmed on the other wiki, then have editextendconfirmedprotected as the user right (just like fullyprotected is the right for the administrator protection level). We can make the one lowercase if you insist, but it's just one more thing to add to the backlog Dmehus (talk) 16:07, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Please I would want it renamed cuz my Twinkle doesn't recognizes that userright name, you get? It only recognizes extendedconfirmed just as we have the autoconfirmed userright for the Autoconfirmed users. And thanks very much I'll do just that for the Founder user group. Ugochimobi (talk) 07:11, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: What content model is supposed to be the content model of the MediaWiki:Sitenotice? Ugochimobi (talk) 10:01, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi Note that the autoconfirmed user right is not the user right for semi-protecting pages, though; that is editsemiprotected. I assume you've locally installed Twinkle on your wiki, so it should not be difficult to update the Twinkle code. I'll try and take a look after I add your other protection level in a few days. As to the content model of MediaWiki:Sitenotice, it should be wikitext. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 15:07, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay What I'll suggest, I'll try modifying my Twinkle installation, then see if it works. For the content model, I think I'm having issues with that, nevermind now, When I'm ready for that I'll sort it out. Ugochimobi (talk) 15:21, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker): Speaking of userrights, Dmehus, did you add the editofficial and editarchive (Edit official pages and Edit archives) on NLW? InspecterAbdel (NLW) 15:35, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not yet, but it's on my list of to-do things in the next couple days, right after Ugochimobi. Dmehus (talk) 15:44, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully it is, I'm tired of waiting. InspecterAbdel (NLW) 15:48, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
InspecterAbdel, it's just a protection level, and your wiki is a private wiki, still under construction anyway, so it's not a high priority task. Dmehus (talk) 15:49, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I know, but still, it's going to be large (when I air the show on my site) InspecterAbdel (NLW) 15:52, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I will make it public later. InspecterAbdel (NLW) 15:53, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@InspecterAbdel: Can't wait...... :) Ugochimobi (talk) 19:00, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I have finally edited my twinkle installation and extendedconfirmed protection is now working, not fine though, but at least working. So that leaves us with not needing the renaming again. Ugochimobi (talk) 19:02, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ugochimobi: So far, there isn't much content, but there is a TON of technical content. InspecterAbdel (NLW) 19:04, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@InspecterAbdel: I gat you niqqa. I have successfully helped WikiJS with the installation of those templates and modules plus MW. :) Ugochimobi (talk) 19:07, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi What do you mean by niqqa? If that's a typo for the slang term I think you mean, please avoid using that language, as users may be offended, even though I know you meant it as a term of endearment. Dmehus (talk) 19:09, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Please pardon my manners. @InspecterAbdel: Please I might have offended you but I'm seriously sorry please don't be annoyed by my silly slang. I am sorry. Ugochimobi (talk) 19:13, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is asking for help on considered disruptive?--Iron Sword 22 (talk) 20:25, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 22 I would prefer you asked for specific assistance on Discord, IRC in #miraheze connect or #miraheze-offtopic connect, or community noticeboard, though I did think the tone of this message was quite BITEy and likewise didn't feel this rollback was needed—I'm not sure why they couldn't have just provided you with a friendlier reply as I'm doing now. What miraheze fandom should I create? I'm still interested in a encyclopedia one, but am willing to receive other options.--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 23:06, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 23 Well, see my comments here, here, and also the number of general purpose encyclopedia wikis we have, each of which do attract little editing interest. Since you seem to like comic books, why don't you create a comic book wiki? Do you have a particular series of comic book that you enjoy? Or, if that's a bit too narrow, what about a specialized encyclopedia wiki that proposes to write about all the comics, but not the movies or television series spinoffs, of, say, Marvel or DC Comics? If neither of those, what other things do you enjoy especially much? Dmehus (talk) 23:12, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DarkMatterMan4500 Okay, thanks, I'm debating whether to start with that wiki, or cwarswiki. Dmehus (talk) 00:07, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus Maybe tackle that wiki first, then the embarrassthepignowwiki. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 00:10, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Face-smile.svg Thank you. I'll work on that today and tomorrow. Dmehus (talk) 00:14, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus You ready to do the tackling? DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 14:14, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just a heads up

I'll wait until most of the encyclopedia wikis are closed before starting mywikipedia again.--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 00:09, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 23 Okay, that sounds good. Yeah, your DC and Marvel Comic Book Wiki sounds interesting, and should keep you busy. Dmehus (talk) 00:12, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
How should I go about getting people to contribute there without spamming talk pages. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 00:14, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Iron Sword 23 I would recommend writing sufficient content on your wiki (at least 50 pages, at minimum) and establish a user friendly design for your wiki to make it both appealing and inviting. If you need help with CSS coding or styling for your wiki, you can ask specific questions in the #miraheze channel on Discord. Next, should add your wiki to Gazetteer of wikis, classifying it in an appropriate category and adding a good description. Following this, you could promote your wiki once in each of community noticeboard and #miraheze-offtopic connect and/or #miraheze connect on IRC. This should only be done, ideally, once you've got a design for your wiki and your starter content completed. You could make a second thread on each inviting specific help on your wiki as well. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:19, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good Morning

I probably won't do this right away, but what wiki's should I create in the future that aren't present on Miraheze?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 15:52, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A wiki about birds, one of my favorite animals. Birdapedia could be a name. InspecterAbdel (NLW) 19:07, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How's your afternoon going?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 21:06, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Dmehus: I hope you're doing good today?
Will I be granted checkuser right if I request? plus I am actually ready to sign the non-disclosable ... Ugochimobi (talk) 14:56, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ugochimobi The CheckUser and Oversight rights are restricted for mainly legal reasons. While the policies do allow for locally elected users with those permissions, the requirements are that the user would need to pass a local election on the wiki where requesting that meets the same requirements for Stewardship. Additionally, as noted, a non-disclosure agreement would need to be signed and accepted by Miraheze Limited. In all cases, Stewards can fulfill any CheckUser requests by your posting at stewards' noticeboard and Oversight requests by your e-mailing stewards(at) Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 15:02, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please how do I go? I requesting checkuser so I don't really need to send emails? .... Ugochimobi (talk) 15:21, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ugochimobi Well, for what purpose? Your wiki is relatively young, so there's not a real need, if I'm being honest. This seems like you're trying to replicate English Wikipedia in both form and function as much as possible. However, note that for CheckUser requests, you need only link to the (a) spambots' CentralAuth links on stewards' noticeboard or (b) relevant diffs between two users which suggest user accounts policy is likely to have been violated, also on stewards' noticeboard. In any case, after having requested and signed a non-disclosure agreement, you'd have to hold a local election, on each wiki, with at least twenty (20) unique persons persons supporting, with at least an 80% net support ratio. Furthermore, you'd also have to have someone else run for the same position on the same wikis where requesting, and they, too, would have to have a non-disclosure agreement signed and accepted. In short, we wouldn't be able to effect the results of your election until all those requirements were in place. Dmehus (talk) 15:46, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! In other words, I cannot request for now. Cuz my wiki is young plus the processes are WOWING. Ugochimobi (talk) 15:52, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, in practice CheckUser has never been given to non-Stewards, due to privacy concerns. It's not necessarily because your wiki is "young" but simply because there's not really a need for you to have CheckUser. If you need to request CheckUser you should ask on Stewards' noticeboard. Reception123 (talk) (C) 16:00, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. Thanks very much @Reception123: Ugochimobi (talk) 16:43, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Per replication of English Wikipedia, trust me I'm gonna try as much as possible to have a second English Wikipedia and as time flies, other languages. Creating an article over there is just WOW at times seeing how other users will bite you up, down, sideways, and otherwise, although they stated you shouldn't bite (even) the newcomers yet it's something else. Ugochimobi (talk) 16:01, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Will i get the templateeditor userright anytime soon? Ugochimobi (talk) 17:03, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What rights can I be granted?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 17:26, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's really so much about rights, but about tools to help you volunteer in some way. In what way are you looking to volunteer (on Meta)? That said, if you don't post on every user's user talk page and remember to consistently sign your posts every time, I can grant you autopatrolled in a couple weeks or so. :) Dmehus (talk) 17:34, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure.--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 17:41, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering, when is a good time for me to create another wiki.--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 21:43, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 23 I mean, in theory, you could request a wiki anytime, provided each wiki has a clear and specific sitename, a clear and appropriate subdomain, and a three- to four-sentence clear purpose and scope. Having said that, keep in mind that building a wiki is often an activity done in isolation, so it should be (a) something you're heavily interested in and which (b) you do not expect other editors to edit. Because of that, be mindful of the time commitment each wiki will take on your time and remember to assume that you are the only editor on each wiki. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 22:19, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 22:21, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. :) Dmehus (talk) 22:22, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What would be a good description of the wiki I want to create? Iron Sword 23 (talk) 22:45, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Iron Sword 23 How how about Fan Fiction Stories Wiki or Fan Fiction Stories as your wiki's sitename, Literature/Writing as your wiki's category, and fictional worldbuilding wiki as your wiki's purpose? Dmehus (talk) 23:30, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Iron Sword 23 Per the above and on the wiki request, I have modified your sitename slightly, and selected the above category for you. :) Dmehus (talk) 23:38, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate it. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 23:39, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. :) Dmehus (talk) 23:42, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How do I get templates over to my wiki? --HenryTheEighth (talk) 12:54, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

HenryTheEighth So the easiest way is to transwiki import templates from Miraheze Template Wiki, as they've already been de-Wikipedia-ified, in many cases. You just go into Special:Import on your wiki, select the second import method (the first requires using Special:Export on the source wiki). Add an edit summary to state that you Imported from Miraheze Template Wiki, choose whether you want to import the most recent revision or all revisions (you're less likely to time out if you go with the former, but if you do, the edit summary is essential), choose whether you want to include template dependences (again, if choosing all revisions, I'd recommend filing a Phabricator task with all the templates you want imported in a complete text file or you may timeout with a 503 backend fetch error), and you should be good to go. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 13:07, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious

Does anyone on like fanfiction?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 23:47, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We have a problem with MarioFanatic69 returning with sockpuppets, but there's more:

If you have a look at the #cvt channel, I have a reported another sockpuppet of MarioFanatic69 threatening to raid our wikis tomorrow. Feel free to have a look at my report on Discord when you have a minute or two. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:21, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DarkMatterMan4500 Yes check.svg Handled. For future reference, if reporting in #miraheze-cvt connect on IRC, this serves as a redundant report, so it's best to keep communication within a single channel of choice (i.e., on-wiki or IRC). Dmehus (talk) 16:07, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:22, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I found an account called RhinoF test blah 7‎, but I don't remember RhinosF1 setting up this account. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:28, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding your first reply, Face-smile.svg Thank you. Regarding your second, that's his confirmed test account. RhinosF1, can you maybe add that to your list of confirmed alts? Dmehus (talk) 16:33, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly it's done with now and the password was keyboard hitting. It's probably easier to just lock anyway. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 16:34, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
RhinosF1 I was thinking the same thing. Yes check.svg Done. Dmehus (talk) 16:37, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RhinosF1: Oh, I thought it was an impostor. Sorry. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 17:12, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
DarkMatterMan4500 No problem. It's good to check and be safe than let a potential imposter on the loose. You did the right thing here. Dmehus (talk) 17:36, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to let you know I created quite a few fanfics on Sword 23 (talk) 18:01, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some of my friends over in the Reception Wikis need to rename a few wikis. These include the URLs as well.

  2. Best TV Shows Wiki to Best Shows & Episodes Wiki
  3. Rename Great Characters Wiki to Incredible Characters Wiki
  4. Rename Wonderful Books Wiki to Magnificent Literature Wiki
  5. Rename Dreadful Books Wiki to Dreadful Literature Wiki

Discord, & IRC ban

Cocopuff2018 I'm terribly sorry for not responding to your IRC DMs sooner. I've left you a MemoServ memo on IRC, as you were offline, and will talk to Reception123. The issue is that we need to have a discussion with existing IRC channel moderators, but I do continue to believe a phased re-entry for you (beginning with IRC, with clear conditions and having your messages initially ignored by the Discord/IRC bot relay) is the right approach. Dmehus (talk) 01:30, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Have a good evening. Also editing on is going well.--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 22:45, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, great. Sounds good. Dmehus (talk) 01:26, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Comment for Meta

Hi Dmehus. I understand that you are of course busy in your duties as Steward however I wish to ask you how you would like us to proceed with my draft Meta RFC. Because the last edit was on 1 March 2021 I believe that it would be nice if it was possible to proceed with this draft and propose it to the community. --DeeM28 (talk) 17:22, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DeeM28 I'd like to take a rethink on that draft actually, and thought you had superceded that draft by the guideline page. If the idea is still to propose both, can we work on the guideline page, first? Dmehus (talk) 17:24, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I do not remember a proposed guideline on this topic. This RfC was requested so that there is a clear way to proceed with requests to enable extensions or skins on Meta. The ongoing RfC about the wordmark reminded me about the RfC we worked on a few months ago. DeeM28 (talk) 17:30, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, the guideline wasn't referring specifically to this topic, but it was related to this topic, and was something that was discussed at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard, so thought you wanted to still move forward with that? Dmehus (talk) 17:33, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think I understand. So you mean that you think it is preferable if we work on a general guideline for Meta before the RfC? If so I was a bit reluctant to start the guideline because it seemed to me that people did not seem very onboard with the idea even though in my view the reasons for opposing a guideline were not very convincing. DeeM28 (talk) 18:09, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
DeeM28 Yeah, the sense I got from the Meta:Administrators' noticeboard discussion was that there was general support for the idea. As long as we keep the guidelines broad and open-ended, I think it would be quite helpful. Additionally, while I do think your draft RfC regarding discussions for some types of extensions, it needs further thought as to potential implications. Plus, we actually have several higher priority draft RfCs I would like to move forward on before that one (i.e., an RfC to amend the Community Directors election administration, an interwiki administration omnibus RfC, an omnibus RfC to revise, modify, or add inactivity clauses to various global and local user groups, and a Meta RfC to remove the Report extension now that we've had sufficient time to determine its utility. Plus, together with that, I have a few volunteers for wiki creator, interwiki administrator, and Global Sysop. I'd like to move forward with those, at a rate of one per week, then move forward with the RfCs, beginning with the highest priority. I'm sure you'll be pleased with that, as you did note in the current global rename RfC that one of the things we need more of is suitable volunteers to fulfill roles. So, I think if you worked on a draft Meta guideline page, we can discuss changes, additions, etc., on the companion talk page. Dmehus (talk) 18:17, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you believe that there is general support then I could try to work on a guideline page. Do you have any general ideas for what we could include there other than ideas such as generally not editing other people's userpages, not biting the newcomers, not jumping in too quickly or requesting rights too quickly, etc? About the RfCs when do you think you will be proceedings with the ones deemed to be of a higher priority? DeeM28 (talk) 19:23, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, those ideas all sound good. I would have no issues whatsoever with those as a starting point. With regard to the RfCs, I'm hoping we could possibly begin with the first RfC in early June, then continue at a rate of one every 2-4 weeks possibly, accounting for volunteer recruitment as well. Dmehus (talk) 19:29, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to expand on each of those ideas with what that looks like, maybe making the short form idea in bolded text, then having a short paragraph that describes what that point looks like. I will try and think of some ideas to add as well, and engage with Reception123 and others once you've started the draft. We can provide a notification at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard, to encourage discussion on the talk page with other ideas. Dmehus (talk) 19:32, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have started a draft for these guidelines. Please do not hesitate to make changes to it yourself or tell me what other things you think would be pertinent for this page. DeeM28 (talk) 16:08, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know people who like fanfiction?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 19:30, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, sorry. You could try searching Special:WikiDiscover, Literature/Writing and Entertainment categories for related wikis, maybe? Dmehus (talk) 19:39, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Do you like fanfiction by chance? Iron Sword 23 (talk) 19:45, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I mean I don't dislike it, I just don't have a lot of time for it. I'd say I'm indifferent. Dmehus (talk) 19:49, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 19:54, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good Morning

What new wikis are you going to create?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 15:44, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How's your day going?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 20:33, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I can use become Chinese Miraheze staff?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 14:12, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help me?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 14:29, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you did just post on my user talk page. I had planned to reply within the next 1-2 calendar days, as replies are based on priority with other tasks. In any case, Miraheze Limited does not have staff, per se. It has technical volunteers and legal, compliance, trust, and safety volunteers. Separately, there are also Miraheze community volunteers. I assume you're referring to system administrators? If so, you would need to be active on GitHub and Phabricator first. You would also need to have at least a working or some knowledge of the PHP programming language, ideally, and familiarity with using Git. Excellent communication skills with external and internal stakeholders, diplomacy, and tact are also essential "soft skills." If you have those things, I would recommend e-mailing sre-management(at) outlining how you want to help, what skills and knowledge you have, any relevant experience, and so forth. Basically, a volunteer cover letter and resume. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 14:36, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh,I want to I need become staff is help miraheze handle wiki management backstage some thing.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:05, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
and management wiki prevent damage.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:07, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by "handle wiki management back stage" and "prevent damage"? Do you mean advanced on-wiki permissions to enable restricted extensions or perform activities related to counter-vandalism? If so, that's not a system administrator's role. Also, is this just for your wiki(s)? If you mean enabling certain functions on your wiki, anyone can do a pull request to LocalSettings.php in order to make changes to their wiki where ManageWiki changes are not or not currently possible. Dmehus (talk) 15:49, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Have you ever considered running for wiki creator? we always need help with Wiki request and I think that would be a good way to help out --Cocopuff2018 (talk) 15:10, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Running for wiki creator?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:11, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
so need do election staff?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:15, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That is correct, Miraheze staff are voted on by election, however, I would highly recommended running for wiki creator before anything else higher up. --Cocopuff2018 (talk) 15:18, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Cocopuff2018 give me suggest, but I become wiki creator have 2 years the above, so I want to become staff has difficult?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:21, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If anything being staff is not easy, And of course the community will look up to you as Miraheze staff to make the right choices, with all this being said you would also need to have experience in many different things, however, I would not recommended applying for staff at the moment because some of the community might see it as hat collecting, and (B) you would most likely not be successful in applying Miraheze staff as of course you need experience in multiple things.. However I do think perhaps applying wiki creator along with showing a reasonable amount of knowledge might get you a successful request for wiki creator. Cocopuff2018 (talk) 15:30, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:32, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You have a nice day.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:34, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Can do a election about me become staff?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:26, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:27, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Or can give me RequestWikiQueue management Miraheze authority?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:40, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You would need wiki creator for that. Cocopuff2018 (talk) 15:43, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I don't your mean.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:44, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not trying to be mean, its just how the permissions are set up. Cocopuff2018 (talk) 15:49, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It sorry my mean is RequestWikiQueue management Miraheze authority. Thanks.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:47, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You have full access to Special:RequestWikiQueue as a wiki creator already. Dmehus (talk) 15:50, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh thanks Dmehus.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:53, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But I can not set RequestWikiQueue, can only access?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:56, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You would need to be in the wiki creator group to access that. Cocopuff2018 (talk) 15:59, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you mean? Special:RequestWikiQueue is viewable on other wikis, but managing wiki requests is only done from Meta Wiki. What are you trying to do/change? Dmehus (talk) 16:03, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
oh no I only want to get RequestWikiQueue set authority. If need change I can talk Miraheze staff.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 16:05, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you mean by "set authority"? What are you looking to change? Dmehus (talk) 16:19, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
sorry, I is busy, please waiting for me. thanks.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 09:32, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Big brother

Please make me interwiki-admin also in famedata--Ugochimobi (talk) 16:28, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Have you held a local election that has now concluded? Dmehus (talk) 16:29, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not really, I thought I could also gain the same right since I have it on the sister? Ugochimobi (talk) 17:00, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Technically, it's a separate wiki. So you should request it in a similar fashion somewhere on Famedata Wiki, then after 3-7 calendar days, ping me to assess your election. Dmehus (talk) 17:56, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could my user rights be increased?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 18:16, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 23 Thank you for your question. I think you're probably almost ready to have your edits autopatrolled; however, I'm still seeing a few too many instances recently where you've forgotten to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~). An occasional mistake is not a problem, as it happens to the best of us, but something for you to please really focus on working on. Additionally, while you are making improvements at reducing your posting on users' talk pages inviting them to your wiki, I haven't seen that be completely curtailed. You're certainly most welcome to be friendly, engaging, and welcome users who have made contributions to Meta Wiki, but maybe just focus on greeting people (again, only if you see they've made at least one edit contribution to this wiki; the reason for this is many users are spam only accounts who just spam the abuse logs, so there's no need to welcome them as they're just spambot armies, essentially ;-))? As well, you are certainly very social, but I don't see you in #miraheze-offtopic connect on our Discord server, so you could maybe consider engaging with users on Discord as well. Let's give it another couple of weeks or so and, if I continue to see improvements, I'll add autopatrolled to your account. How does that sound? Dmehus (talk) 01:29, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Lately, I've just been greeting people if that helps. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 01:34, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, as I say, you're doing better, but let's just give it another week or so, so you can focus on that. Thanks. :) Dmehus (talk) 01:50, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 01:55, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the autopatrol :D--Angelo Pisani (talk) 20:50, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Withdraw my request for wiki creator

@Dmehus:after all the feedback and etc. given I would like to withdraw my request the reason is I understand I am not ready for it and would like it to give it more time and help out in other ways. --Cocopuff2018 (talk) 21:23, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cocopuff2018 Face-smile.svg Thank you for your enthusiasm in wanting to help out as a wiki creator. I do think that this was still a case of being a bit too soon, based on your responses to the questions. Some questions were tough, admittedly, and I'm willing to provide you the correct way of handling the ones you answered correctly over the next several weeks, and to helping mentor you as to Content Policy so as to hopefully have a successful request in the next several months. Anyway, I have Yes check.svg withdrawn your permissions request per this response. In terms of helping on Meta, I would just say that there's not a terrible lot that needs doing, unless you are fluent in another language (i.e., you could help as a translator), beyond just helping users on the noticeboards. My best advice would be to research and think about your responses to users' questions, though, so as not to give out incorrect information too often. As well, we're going to move forward with a conditional unban of you on IRC that would, in turn, potentially to help to aid your re-entry to Discord in a couple months. I'll be communicating with you more on that in due course; we're just waiting on the MirahezeBot team to implement some technical changes to our bot relays. So, helping users on IRC will be another way in which you can help out. Dmehus (talk) 21:34, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I know this might seem odd for me to ask but was my IRC ban Successful, and will I be unbanned once those Bot changes are made? --Cocopuff2018 (talk) 21:41, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it was successful, but there are a series of conditions, which I'll communicate to you, and the technical changes revolve around having the bot relays ignore your messages so you can't communicate with/ping Discord users while your Discord ban remains in place. I'll aim to communicate the conditions to you and hopefully unban you by the end of this week. Dmehus (talk) 21:45, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DC and Marvel Comic Book wiki

Just created a couple navboxes for Sword 23 (talk) 00:59, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Want to check out Sword 23 (talk) 14:47, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 23 Thank you for your message. I'll try and check it out soon; however, this is the sort of thing I was talking about here. While it's fine to greet and be friendly with users who've made editing contributions to Meta Wiki, inviting every user to your wiki via their user talk page may be seen by some users as a mild form of spam. So, this is the sort of thing it's best to curtail to avoid getting yourself into trouble again in the future. Dmehus (talk) 14:54, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You can remove the message if you want to. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 15:05, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, it's fine, it can stay, I just want to make sure you know what I'm saying, though? Perhaps you could repeat back to me what I said, in your own words? Dmehus (talk) 15:08, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll take it easy. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 15:13, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, sort of, I mean you can, but basically I don't necessarily want to see stop being friendly with and greeting real human users on Meta Wiki. Rather, just don't post about your wikis on their user talk pages. If in the course of the back-and-forth, you ask them what their wiki is, they respond in kind and ask you what your wiki is in turn, then you can tell them about your wiki and ask them if they want to contribute there. Does that make sense? Dmehus (talk) 15:20, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you revert my edit on the Community Noticeboard?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 00:14, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 23 Thank you for the question. There were several reasons for this. For one thing, there is already a thread on community noticeboard where you've asked this or a very similar question, so this was redundant. The fact someone has not replied does not mean you should post about it again. Second, you removed the section header from your post. Finally, your post was unsigned. In short, there was no need to keep it. As I suggested on stewards' noticeboard, you should ask about this on Discord or IRC, which you've already done, and that's great. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:25, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should I have Discord servers for and Sword 23 (talk) 14:51, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It depends, really, on the size of your community. For example, TestWiki doesn't even have a Discord server, and it has a fairly active, albeit somewhat small, regular community. You might consider having one Discord server called "DC Marvel Comics and Fan Fiction Stories" or something, then have channels for each. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:09, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Work on my existing wikis is going well. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 00:18, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What would be a good main page for my three wikis?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 16:26, 22 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to that revert I've made:

As what I said to PrivateNewone here, I was afraid that there would be a huge argument between ItMeansNothing and the user in question. That's simply the reason why I reverted it, even though I probably should've left it alone. I mean, I should only revert stuff on the Stewards' noticeboard if either A. I'm requested to revert it, or B. if it was made by an LTA. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 01:34, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DarkMatterMan4500 Thank you for your reply. It's understandable. As to what to revert on stewards' noticeboard, your approach with regard to A and B is sounds, so go with that. If PrivateNewone would like to request Steward assistance in resolving the dispute with ItMeansNothing, that's fine, but I'm hoping that ItMeansNothing will simply delete the page, as that seems like the best way to handle it. My Question

Hi, you not solve my question, my internetpedia, can you set up become Exempt from Inactivity?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 02:30, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, can you help me?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 12:07, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I would suggest reading policies for exemption. Just note for an exemption for your wiki you need to have user rights on it along with a valid reason for it and global activity along with being locally involved significantly --Cocopuff2018 (talk) 12:19, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 12:26, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Msnhinet8, I haven't forgotten about your exemption request, but I'm still waiting on you to follow up in the thread above (do not reply to this thread; reply to the thread above) in order to progress your wiki's import request from Fandom. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 14:35, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
sorry the (do not reply to this thread; reply to the thread above) it need reason?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:00, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If become Exempt from Inactivity need reason, I need thinking.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:04, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm reluctant to grant the exemption from inactivity until after your import request is done. Please respond to my question posed in the use visualeditor section on this page, not this section. Thank you. Dmehus (talk) 15:09, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This question my answer: I in the future can always edit my internetpedia miraheze, so you can believe me, thanks.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:12, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Use visualeditor this feature is good!--Msnhinet8 (talk) 15:14, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid you're not understanding me. I can't grant you an exemption until we handle your requested import first. Since that's in-scope of system administrators, I'm going to move that thread to Reception123's user talk page, then we can deal with that first, then return to this thread for the exemption only when that's done. How does that sound? Dmehus (talk) 15:20, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Msnhinet8 Apologies for the delay in following up, but I just wanted to follow up with two things. Firstly, regarding your requested import of Chinese Internetpedia on Fandom, Reception123 was able to resolve the issue with the import himself by disabling the Math extension and, presumably, reenabling it later. Regarding your request for an exemption to Dormancy Policy, which I can and have now assessed, this is also Yes check.svg done as a wiki with few editors and with sufficient content made to be read by real people. Thank you. Dmehus (talk) 18:56, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Msnhinet8 (talk) 05:12, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. :) Dmehus (talk) 14:15, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just a heads up

I moved my question to Discord.--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 14:36, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 23 Face-smile.svg Thank you. That's very helpful and a better place to ask it. If no one responds, you can ask it again in the same channel on Discord. Dmehus (talk) 14:39, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
When would be a good time for my rights to be increased? Iron Sword 23 (talk) 14:41, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not yet, unfortunately. Reception123 and I need to see at least a good two weeks of you posting less and demonstrating that you understand the points being expressed to you. So, in your case, (significantly) less posts on Meta is what you need to demonstrate. Less is more essentially. Dmehus (talk) 15:09, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am posting infrequently at this point, if that helps. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 15:12, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Iron Sword 23 I'm not sure how to explain this any better, so perhaps I'll just explain it simply and plainly, the frequency of your posting random, broad questions on noticeboards and socializing on users' user talk pages is unprecedented. You've posted nearly 200 posts on Meta Wiki in the past two weeks or so since your account was created. How about this, you limit yourself to 2-3 posts per week on Meta Wiki and focus on posting on other wikis the rest of the time and asking your questions only on Discord? How does that sound? Dmehus (talk) 15:17, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 15:19, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Content pages

Hi, I can my internetpedia Miraheze build 1000 million like to wikipedia english that, build very very content pages?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 02:53, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean could you create or import 1 billion content pages on your Internetpedia wiki? Unfortunately, I'm going to boldly say, no, that won't be possible, as Wikipedia requires a lot of storage and server resources, and it wouldn't be feasible for tiny Miraheze, with its small and limited budget to support that. Realistically, the upper limit for a Miraheze-hosted wiki is probably 500,000 content pages per wiki. Reception123, would you say that's fairly accurate? Dmehus (talk) 06:37, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So your mean is any miraheze wiki not exceed 500,000 content pages ? Msnhinet8 (talk) 08:00, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
the future can not? Msnhinet8 (talk) 08:02, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's not a fixed, absolute number, but rather a rough guide. Maybe a million pages would be fine, if only 100,000 of the pages had an image or two on them, but in general terms, I would say generally no. Please reach out to Reception123 or I on Discord, as I know you're on Discord, as on-wiki communication is quite inefficient. Dmehus (talk) 08:06, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ok, i tonight go to Discord, thanks. Msnhinet8 (talk) 08:08, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable wiki

Does violate Miraheze rules?--Iron Sword 23 (talk) 15:13, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, if you ask me. I noticed something there that might not need to be, and it can be offensive to the person it targets. I don’t even understand the point and purpose of this wiki. --Anton (talk) 16:23, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Should it be closed? Iron Sword 23 (talk) 16:37, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion and Reception123's opinion, yes, it violates Content Policy. Because it violates it in a systemic way (i.e., every page), I do favour deletion, and likely will effect this in the next day or two, but want to chat with existing Stewards first. Thank you for your report. Dmehus (talk) 18:53, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki-related question

Can you help with this? --Iron Sword 23 (talk) 14:09, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Other language speakers are needed.

This page should be marked for translation. — SHEIKH (Talk) 17:50, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

SHEIKH We don't mark the noticeboards for translation because it is (a) complicated and (b) reports should be in English anyway, so it's impossible and also no need to translate noticeboard and talk page requests. Dmehus (talk) 17:53, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you say to chat on irc

hi remember the only post in my user talk I like to say again I am not allowed to chat on irc during school hours.--Andrew071117 (talk) 18:16, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean you had to ask the question immediately. In all honesty, though, if you're not permitted to use chat functions during school hours, this is chatting, regardless of the medium. Dmehus (talk) 18:19, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Can't I just skip school to go on discord or irc Andrew071117 (talk) 15:48, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No. Please do not skip school. Skipping school will seriously harm you in future and you should only be absent when unwell or for the few other exceptional circumstances. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 15:51, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But when I can use discord and IRC Andrew071117 (talk) 16:02, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and skipping school for something this minor is not good. Like RhinosF1 said, it can seriously affect you. Bukkit (talk) (C) 21:10, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning what happened on the CN

Regarding the issue of Interwiki on the CN, I would want to say in all noticeboard, whenever a serious issue is posted on any of the noticeboards, the poster should reach out to any administrator/sysop at least drop a notice in the talk page of any of these people or recently active people on the noticeboard so they could be aware of it and give appropriate and immediate response if possible.
This message could be placed on the top of the page where we have the Add topic button.
This could help cover as many lacunas as possible.--Ugochimobi (talk) 13:28, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

about new vector

Man, I thought the new vector was cool, but it's still very different with the one from Wikipedia. BY DEFAULT, the sidebar was meant to be open, but it is closed. YellowFrogger (talk) 17:54, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That shouldn't be happening. We should change that to default be open, if possible. Dmehus (talk) 18:00, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this revert you made on a user's talk page:

I understand that you reverted my revert, considering the fact that the user in question has been stalking a user on this thread in which I've had to remove mainly due to not helping matters in the slightest, not to mention the user's incredibly rude response towards Blubabluba9990, and I'm sure you're aware of his incredibly rude response I forwarded in the email I sent to the Trust & Safety Team last week, in which Owen told me to directly contact a Steward in that scenario. Originally, I was going to call a truce with that person, but after the behavior they have displayed, I'm just shocked the user hasn't been given a firm warning not only for that, but also, for this peanut gallery comment on a thread between ChessPiece21 and Geoshea and for other Code of Conduct issues the user has displayed. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:18, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

While I reverted your edit on the user's user talk page, that doesn't mean the user's global activity is in any way acceptable. This is on my todo list, and should be handled shortly, following consultation with Void and NDKilla. Dmehus (talk) 23:30, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well okay, because the user has proven to be nothing but trouble around here, spewing insults to users, aggravatingly stalking a user with a rude tone regarding the Code of Conduct (when they aren't that much better either, considering their actions too), and I do hope you can consult with Void and NDKilla in the best way you can. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:36, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You have also said before that the user may be Inkster. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 16:29, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Blubabluba9990 Well, you'd be right about that. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:44, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I need your help

Since the discussion on Steward's noticeboard was closed, I am continuing the discussion here since it needs to be resolved. So I can understand being blocked on the wikis where I actually did something wrong, but not a cross-wiki block. You said yourself that you do not believe in blocks for off-site issues: So I am going to need your help to help me resolve this, because it has gotten out of control. Not only that, but I realized that they deleted my userpages on all of the wikis, which really is not necessary. I do not want any drama, since I came here to escape the drama. Also, I have things to do on the Reception wikis. I have to help out with the rest of the rebrand, and I have pages that I planned to create. Not only that, but like I said, the reasons why I am blocked are not stated as against the rules on the Main Page. And DarkMatterMan4500 and BookFandumb1 also agreed that my blocks were unfair. I would ping MarioMario456 here again, but I don't want him to close this until it is completely resolved and I am unblocked on the wikis that I did nothing wrong on, and my userpages are restored. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 16:22, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Blubabluba9990 The closure by MarioMario456 was indeed inappropriate, though presumably done in good-faith and has been Yes check.svg reverted. You may reply to that thread if you feel you have something more to add, but my personal feeling would be to engaging with an uninvolved administrator/bureaucrat on wikis where you've not contributed, such as DarkMatterMan4500, who did not personally feel all of the blocks were either necessary and/or valid, and ask him to consider reverting your blocks on wikis where you've either (a) never contributed, (b) contributed minimally, or (b) not contributed recently, as no one bureaucrat (whether it be DuchessTheSponge, MarioMario456, or DarkMatterMan4500) is "in charge" of a wiki or has any more authority than other bureaucrats. Dmehus (talk) 17:00, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am blocked on all of the Qualitipedia wikis. I would at least request being unblocked on at least the wikis that I didn't do anything wrong on. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 18:05, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I feel like I should be unblocked on every wiki except for at least the websites wikis and Terrible Shows & Episodes Wiki, since those are wikis where I have been blocked in the past for on-wiki issues. The other wikis I shouldn't be blocked on. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 21:30, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
MarioMario456 and DuchessTheSponge, what are the most recent wikis that Blubabluba9990 contributed to that led to their block, and what were the reason(s) for the local blocks? I'm just wondering if we could work out a solution that allows them to remain indefinitely blocked on a small number of wikis, and, if they don't cause further issues that led to their local blocks in, say, 30-60 days, you could lift the remaining blocks at that time? Basically, on wikis where they're to be not blocked, they should avoid your user talk pages until at least 30-60 days have passed and wish to ask for a reconsideration. Could something like this work? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 21:35, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Bluba goes balls when he gets blocked on Qualitipedia, but I'll sum it up: he moved Prehibernation Week to the list of "good episodes" on the SpongeBob page on Best Shows & Episodes Wiki, but it is considered controversial. On the website wikis, he has caused too much drama to count, but he once compared Encyclopedia SpongeBobia to the Nazis. He also went crazy on a background contest I started on CGW because it was unauthorized by FreezingTNT, but I, as an admin, can do whatever I want on the wikis. MarioMario456 21:40, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's fair. Regarding the website wikis, he's apologized for that, so that's old history. Could you guys maybe limit his blocks to the Best TV Shows & Episodes Wiki and Terrible TV Shows Wiki, and any other television-related wikis, with a warning to discuss controversial or potentially controversial edits on wikis where not blocked? Where he's unsure if something is controversial, he should err on the side of caution. Something like that, perhaps? Dmehus (talk) 21:43, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes check.svg Done MarioMario456 21:50, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. If his edits on other wikis are constructive and he does a reasonably decent job of using talk pages / comments to discuss potentially controversial edits, might you and DuchessTheSponge to an appeal in 2 or 3 months from now? Dmehus (talk) 21:52, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So can I be unblocked on the rest of the wikis not mentioned above. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:44, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

While you're nuking those spam-bots:

Mind taking care of the spambots that has the "Comment" usernames as well? As they are basically flooding multiple wikis. (Sorry if this is bothering you.) DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 23:50, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hrm? Examples? Dmehus (talk) 23:54, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus Examples include these: Commentachkt591, Commentbidcw656, Commentcbrfd264, Commentcnpan657, Commentfdfjs398, and there are similar usernames relating to these. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 00:40, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've been keeping my momentum up with recent reports, so I should keep it that way, and this would apply to the spambot account examples from above. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 01:05, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. I'll check those and lock & block later. I'm making solid progress on Loginwiki spam only accounts. I should have close to 600 spam only accounts locked in the past twenty four hours shortly, and I haven't even finished the first page of abuse logs. :) Dmehus (talk) 15:27, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dmehus You keep doing what you're doing for right now. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 15:29, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The remaining unblocks

Even though MarioMario456 and DarkMatterMan4500 took care of most of my blocks, they are not admins on every wiki. Since DuchessTheSponge has blocked me on every wiki where he is an admin, I feel like you should unblock me from the remaining wikis (see the remaning blocks here: Special:CentralAuth/Blubabluba9990). Some of the wikis are mostly inactive, and a few of them are even closed. Some of the blocks are months old. Since you are a steward you have the power to unblock me, so can you unblock me on the remaining wikis. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 23:54, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This whole situation with you and DuchessTheSponge did slowly become a cesspool of drama, to the point where it got out of proportions. I believe he might be inclined to unblock you on a couple of other wikis if he wishes it. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 00:02, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have asked him before, and he has said he will, but he hasn't done it yet. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 00:20, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I believe DuchessTheSponge is in a European time zone, possibly, so that could be one reason. Additionally, these things do not happen instantly. I'd suggest waiting a few days. Thanks/ Dmehus (talk) 01:26, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This seems to be locally resolving itself, which is at it should. I would suggest waiting a few more days to see if DuchessTheSponge unblocks you on the remaining, non-television show Qualitipedia wikis. If he does not, then perhaps you could ask DarkMatterMan4500, MarioMario456, or DeciduousWater534 to do so. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 01:25, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
He's staying blocked on the website wikis since that's where most of the drama began, according to Duchess. MarioMario456 01:49, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's fine. If that's all that is left, then this seems to be done now. Dmehus (talk) 01:53, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 15:34, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MarioMario456: you still need to restore my userpages on the movies wikis, the tv show wikis, and Crappy Games Wiki since you deleted all of them. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 16:01, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Be patient, it sometimes take days for someone to respond. MarioMario456 19:09, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. You also do not seem to be very active here. Blubabluba9990 (talk) 19:41, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please help me, Dmehus, there's someone vandalizing my talk page.

SobySobea Is breaking the Code of Conduct, reverting my edits of a reply on the Stewards Noticeboard and messing my talk page with vandalism. AlvaroNovaes-BR (talk) 05:49, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This user also messed with my talk page too. So Soby here is either a spammer or troll (the unfunny kind at that). --Milcery229 (talk) 05:54, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@AlvaroNovaes-BR and Milcery229: Hi, I have reported this on #miraheze-cvt connect and user was blocked and locked (because he have vandalism on Loginwiki too) by Reception123, so this is Yes check.svg Done. HeartsDo (Talk / Global / Wiki Creator) 06:38, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@HeartsDo Thank you so much. (^◡^) AlvaroNovaes-BR (talk) 06:46, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Should Wim B's user page be deleted? Iron Sword 23 (talk) 21:47, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 23 It's already been done, but thanks for asking Doug anyway. :) DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 22:29, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. Iron Sword 23 (talk) 22:32, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User named ItMeansNothing made a page that's making fun of me.

This user created this page on his wiki that's harassing and cyber bullying me and saying false info about me as well as calling me names. So is it possible that you or someone else you know can delete that page of me because I can't stand it anymore.-PrivateNewone PrivateNewone (talk) 06:45, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I personally don't feel that's a significant enough Content Policy violation to warrant deletion, as there are none of your personally identifying information and it appears to be largely fictional, with no criticisms of personal attributes that would be degrading. You're welcome to ask NDKilla or Void for a second opinion, but your best bet would be to engage with ItMeansNothing at their user talk page in a friendly manner and politely ask for deletion or to justify their purpose for keeping the page. Depending on their response, Steward engagement could be warranted. Dmehus (talk) 15:32, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well even if I do ask him to delete the page, he would decline my request or he will not respond and if I do ask him the purpose of keeping the page, he would say it's just a joke. Also, he verbally insulted me and blocked me on his wiki, even though I have never been their and before I went their Maybe you or someone else can tell him to delete the page or else there would be consequences. PrivateNewone (talk) 17:12, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
PrivateNewone I've Yes check.svg done this alternative, per your reasonable request. This should have the page disappear from Google web search results in time. You can let me know if my edit is reverted, as I can see no reason not to not index that page. Dmehus (talk) 17:21, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright thanks, well can you do one more thing? Remove the name and mentions of this other user named KAPfan9876 on ItMeansNothing's page because he's making a false assumption that I'm KAPfan9876 in reality, I'm not that user. I don't want that user's name to lead to ItMeansNothing's page on Google Web Search and Images, so maybe you can do that too? PrivateNewone (talk) 17:36, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes check.svg Done Dmehus (talk) 18:42, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gazetteer of wikis

I hadn't even considered link names would in fact change over time, so thanks on that. I've pitched other links that lead nowhere, throwing 'wiki' on top of their domains for good measure. The following have their own issues and I'd like to pitch them, but would rather get input first:

aeross * Locked down visibility to outsiders and is superceded by a dead link per the main page

wikieducation * Seems defunct despite appearing 'active'

ucronias * I seem to have a database error with this one * Does not make a connection for me

--Raidarr (talk) 16:37, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Raidarr Thank you for asking first. Regarding aerosswiki, as that's a private wiki which is indeed a self-declared inactive wiki, that can be safely removed from the Gazetteer of wikis. Additionally, spambot user creations on that wiki are precluding closure per Dormancy Policy, so I have Yes check.svg locally removed the createaccount user right from the * user group, to hopefully have the wiki be closed per Dormancy Policy. I don't see any issues with WikiEducation, so that should stay. You can remove ucroniaswiki as it was a deleted and recreated wiki, so should be re-added by the requesting user, once it's working again. See also #T7546 on Phabricator I created for it. Thanks for your report re: jacksonheightswiki. I've filed #T7547 for that, so this one can stay for now, as the domain should either be renewed, or the custom domain will be unset, thereby reverting to a subdomain. Dmehus (talk) 18:33, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Both valid tweaks are complete, thank you for the review. o7 --Raidarr (talk) 23:01, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, and okay, that's Yes check.svg great. Thanks for your help with the cleanup! :) Dmehus (talk) 23:06, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
