From Meta

Confirm me

I want to request bot permission (to lock people with unacceptable usernames), but I can't edit Requests for permissions --NameBot (talk) 15:47, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

btw this account is owned by @Tom191: --NameBot (talk) 15:52, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NameBot and Tom191: (edit conflict) Thank you for your request, welcome to Meta, and, ordinarily, I'd lower Meta:Requests for permissions' page protection level; however, given that your proposed bot proposes to perform a Global Sysop or steward function, I'm going to say this will be a X mark.svg Not done. If you want to submit your bot code to Miraheze for an existing global functionary to operate, that is fine. Hope this helps. Dmehus (talk) 15:55, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I thought maybe we can lock all users with questionable words in their username, as I saw A LOT of usernames that haven't been locked --NameBot (talk) 15:56, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NameBot and Tom191: Yes, I could see a bot potentially adding value, but we do have Title blacklist, which handles this in MediaWiki software directly, too, and which applies globally. You're welcome to propose suggested changes or additions to that page on either (a) stewards' noticeboard or (b) Talk:Title blacklist. But to your point, the key problem with your proposal is that @Tom191: is not a Global Sysop, so Tom191 cannot operate a bot account performing Global Sysop functions. Does that make sense? Dmehus (talk) 15:59, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, ok. --NameBot (talk) 16:02, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NameBot and Tom191: Thanks for understanding. Let me know if you have further questions on this. Dmehus (talk) 16:04, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Could we remove the reception wikis

These wikis to be precise Atrocious YouTubers Wiki, Horrible Vyonders Wiki, and Unfavorable Wikis and Users Wiki.

They are harassing users, and they hate SJWs. We need them banned ASAP. — Preceding unsigned comment added by D Mob (talkcontribs) 18:52, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@D Mob: First, while I am not a steward, I will say that I, too, have noticed highly problematic content on those wikis. However, your reports will get more attention of stewards if you link to a series of pages on each of the wikis and explain how and in what way(s) the given wikis are violating Content Policy and their users are violating the Code of Conduct. In terms of the latter, linking to specific revisions and/or specific users' Special:Contributions pages on the given given wikis is also helpful. Second, you should remember to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~). Third, you should also, ideally, make only one post, ideally on stewards' noticeboard, but it is also acceptable to use a steward's or my user talk page, and I'll forward your report to a steward. Finally, please do not change other users' posts, as you did here, which has been reverted. If I see that again, in such an egregious manner, I will have no choice but to temporarily block or partially block you on Meta to prevent this egregious disruptive editing. As well, activities like that seriously undermine your credibility in what might otherwise be the early workings of a very legitimate complaint to stewards. Dmehus (talk) 21:34, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
They don’t try to harass users. They criticize them. JrStudios (talk) 12:35, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Dmehus. I have a problem with illogicalpedia. The founder does not have an email address, and I cannot make a consensus in the absence of active users, how do I go about adopting it now? --Anthony8IA (talk) 16:28, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Anthony8IA: Apologies for the delay in replying, but did you still need assistance here in some way? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 23:54, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Interwiki request

Hi there! Please consider adding a test table to Special:Interwiki on meta, pointing to$1 with forwarding on. Let me know if there are any concerns about this. Thanks. Naleksuh (talk) 00:02, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Naleksuh: While I'm a Meta administrator and can technically edit the global interwiki table, procedurally, I really shouldn't be as Meta administrators have never really been authorized to edit the global interwiki table. I'm in the process of working on an interwiki reform RfC that should be ready for discussion in a couple weeks or so, so I will diarize this request, and update the global interwiki table once the reforms pass. Having said that, I do think the URL should be$1. In the mean time, we can use Public Test Wiki. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:07, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I was not referring to the global interwiki table, but only to the Meta table, as I saw you on Interwiki administrators/List. Naleksuh (talk) 00:18, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Naleksuh: Oh, sorry, yeah, I should've clarified that Meta doesn't have a local interwiki table, and interwiki administrators are only allowed to edit the local interwiki table on any wiki that hasn't opted out (currently, there are none, except Meta). My RfC will hope to change that, as it does make sense, I think. Proposal 1 will propose moving the global interwiki table to Loginwiki, allowing Meta to have its own local interwiki table to be editable by Meta administrators and interwiki administrators. Proposal 2 would propose to retain the global interwiki table on Meta, for greater transparency, but opt it back into interwiki administrators, and then there will be another proposal to either (a) specifically authorize Meta administrators to edit the global interwiki table or (b) specifically exclude Meta administrators from editing the global interwiki table. A further proposal will add an inactivity clause of 12 months to interwiki administrators, another will add a couple minor readdition clauses, and there will also be some housekeeping amendments to local interwiki administrators, to better clarify who is eligible to be a local interwiki administrator (currently, it is notionally a bureaucrat, but on TestWiki and other wikis, they have bureaucrats who don't have the managewiki user right, so I would like to propose that anyone is eligible, provided they have certain minimum local edit requirements met, they've been ratified by a local functionary with the managewiki user right, and a steward then grants rights). What do you think of that? Dmehus (talk) 01:03, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have a vaild email address

Mr. Dmehus, when I try to email you about the steward candidate I wanted (I'm not gonna tell you due to privacy reasons), I couldn't because it says that "This user has not specified a valid email address.". Can you get an email address so I can email you? The Fastastic Mr. Owen (please call me Owen) OwenFung87 05:35, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@OwenFung87: Thanks for your note, Owen. That is very strange, as I am certain I had added and confirmed an e-mail address on Miraheze, as I do get the e-mail notifications for those which I have opted into. Nevertheless, I have re-added and confirmed it, so you should be able to e-mail me here now. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 13:39, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How do I promote my wiki? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Katholica (talkcontribs) 15:17, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Katholica: You could add your wiki at the Gazetteer of wikis, for starters. Secondarily, you could join us on Discord or IRC and discuss ways to promote your wiki. Hope this helps.

How to place the images to the right or left on a wiki page? And sorry for the "simple" question :) - Lois (talk) 18:32, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Lois: Hi. In order to do that you would need to add a "|right" or "|left" to the image in question. For example, you'd do in order to display that on the left of the page. I suggest that you also read The MediaWiki help page for images for more details and more options for images. Reception123 (talk) (C) 19:27, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong URL for my wiki

Sorry to disturb you, but my wiki Codewiki is at, when the URL in the request says If there was some issue with that one then it's fine, but if I can have the URL changed that would be great.

Seemplez (talk) 06:35, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I'll change the name. Seemplez (talk) 06:39, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Seemplez: Thanks for the question. I didn't change your URL, as this is a discouraged practice for wiki creator to do. Now that it's created, though, this will require you to request on Phabricator, using your MediaWiki login for Miraheze with the magic of OAuth, and then a system administrator will be able to change both your subdomain and your database name. Unless you just meant your sitename, maybe? If just your sitename, then yes, you can change that easily in Special:ManageWiki on your wiki. Dmehus (talk) 14:52, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dmehus,

I would like to ask you, that can I be a member on the Test wiki? Can I translate it too? (Maybe translation admin?) Thanks :) - Lois (talk) 16:36, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Lois: Yes check.svg Done. Certainly. We don't have a separate translation administrator user group on TestWiki, since anyone can be an administrator (and a bureaucrat after at least 24 hours and 10 edits and assuming they're trustworthy, which you are). So, I'll grant you administrator, and with that, you can practice with the translation tools. On TestWiki, the key things to keep in mind are the following:

Tech:Adding a new extension

The string I removed here doesn't fill any purpose, as the translation would only be the dummy string $code2. So I removed it. --Raltseye (talk) 23:31, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Raltseye: Okay, that's fair, but concern is that for that translation unit, which has already been created in Translations: namespace, it will still exist as FuzzyBot does not automatically remove dropped translation units from active pages. So I am mainly concerned about trying to prevent the build up of extraneous clutter in that namespace. Is it possible to just leave it as a valid translation unit, if it's not hurting anything, or possibly we could renumber the translation units by moving all the units from that number up by one? We'd still end up with T:20 that we don't need, which we could either (a) manually delete or (b) just leave as a blank translation unit, shelved for future use? Dmehus (talk) 23:36, 4 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I actually don't how these things work behind the scenes, so I don't know what would be the best thing to do, but to delete it and not touch the other ones I think sounds like the best sollution. If it doesn't create any trouble I'd say just delete T:20 and let it be? Save it for future use if necessary. But if it's left in it doesn't really do any real "harm" perhaps, but it's unnecessary for translators to have an empty block just to copy the text and let it be. --Raltseye (talk) 00:39, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Raltseye: Okay, I will do that then, sometime between now and tomorrow morning. Thanks again, and thanks for all your Swedish translation work. :) Dmehus (talk) 01:58, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No worries about when, it's no rush, also thank you! :) --Raltseye (talk) 03:33, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sabelöga Apologies for the delay in replying, but just wanted to provide a quick update prior to archiving to say I'm unlikely to worry about those deleted translation units. They'll be deleted eventually if and even a page is ever deleted. Dmehus (talk) 00:15, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A Wiki I requested

I mentioned on the Stewards' noticeboard that a Wiki I requested was still yet to be reviewed despite it being a while since I requested it. You told me you'd review it. Did you (or any other volunteer) review it, because it's still yet to be made? Imjustthere (talk) 21:10, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Imjustthere: Thanks for the question. I did check the "inreview" queue, but there was nothing. I did some quick digging, and found this wiki request. Is that the one? If so, it was declined by wiki creator @Zppix: as it needs more information on what the contents of your wiki will be. What will be the topic, scope, and purpose of/for your wiki be, essentially? Also, you should've received an e-mail notification for this, so you may want to check if you have provided a confirmed e-mail address in your preferences. Hope that helps Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 21:14, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Translation administrator

Hi, sorry to bother you, but how long will this take? I also wonder if this applies to the Template wiki and the Commons? Because I have translated all the pages there. I also edited on all the pages on the template wiki and would like to edit the main pages as well, but those are protected. Could you perhaps take care of this? --Raltseye (talk) 22:18, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Raltseye: Apologies for the delay. I have to prepare the translation administrator guidelines, so I should be in a position to make you a translation administrator on Meta or later tomorrow. There's no global translation administrator group, that would be a useful global group, I think, to be honest. Nevertheless, when I add you as a translation administrator on Meta, I will ping a Commons and Template wiki bureaucrat to add you as a translation administrator on those wikis. Dmehus (talk) 22:21, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. --Raltseye (talk) 22:54, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. Apologies for the delay. Other things keep taking priority, but I hope to finalize the guidelines and grant you the user group in the next few days. I'll take a look if any pages need marking right now, though. Dmehus (talk) 14:10, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, nothing comes to mind at the moment. --Raltseye (talk) 15:39, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Request #14621

Sorry for sending a message at early morning at your time zone, Dmehus. I have replied to your message at Special:RequestWikiQueue/14621 although it seems a bit late, so I just want to leave a message here just in case you might didn't see my reply. Thanks! 谷杭小包子 (talk) 15:50, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@谷杭小包子: No problem. It's not too early, actually, only around 9:30 am now. I am looking at your wiki request, and have just edited the request so it goes back to "inreview," from "declined." It seems pretty good to me, as it's mostly or entirely historical. So, just to be clear you don't propose to write about current living people? It's all related to the social, political, and cultural history of the People's Republic of China during the Qing dynasty? Do I have that right, or mostly right? Dmehus (talk) 16:36, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: No, I don't propose to include real living people in the wiki. There might be some made-up characters and stuffs based on the role play setting of our forum, but I think a portion of the wiki will also be about historical people and places, even political systems of China at the Qing Dynasty (not really the PRC, there wasn't PRC yet at that time).谷杭小包子 (talk) 01:08, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@谷杭小包子: Ah, thanks for the clarification. This LGTM now then. I will approve. Dmehus (talk) 01:53, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Thanks so much! 谷杭小包子 (talk) 01:59, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this edit on Gazetteer of wikis

I removed those wikis since they were small and not active anymore so I saw no reason to keep them, besides it's an informal list so we have obligation to keep them either. --Raltseye (talk) 09:11, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Raltseye: Okay, fair enough, though to be honest, I think any wiki can be included in the Gazetteer of wikis. As long as someone wants their wikis in there, we include them, as far as I'm aware, though they can be removed if the wiki becomes closed. Also, I don't think it makes sense to include private wikis' in the Gazetteer; I should check with @Reception123: what the conventions and customs are for the Gazetteer though. Regarding your translation administrator, I haven't forgotten, and aim to have the guidelines finalized and should be able to grant you rights today or tomorrow at the latest. Dmehus (talk) 09:35, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, that seems fair. --Raltseye (talk) 09:39, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hrvcfr: Do you mean your wiki? If so, you can add your wiki to the Gazetteer of wikis. You can also enable Extension:Add HTML Meta and Title on your wiki to be able to add metadata HTML tags to improve your search engine score. You can also post a single thread on community noticeboard noting your Miraheze wiki and inviting volunteers for your wiki. You can join us on Discord, promote your wiki's Discord server, and discuss search engine optimization strategies. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 01:54, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry I'm not good at writing but I try my best. Bear with me please. Hrvcfr (talk) 02:20, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's no problem, though your wiki request still needs more detail before it can be approved. Why don't we start by reframing your Miraheze and wiki introduction. What prompted you to create this wiki? How did you find Miraheze? Do you have any account(s) on other wikis (not necessarily Miraheze)? If so, which one(s), and what's your account username(s) there? This will help me help you better. Dmehus (talk) 02:24, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ty Hrvcfr (talk) 19:22, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What are your thoughts on the Gazetteer of wikis?

Normally, you won't edit much except for wikis that use your Native language. (i.e. It can be edited and the description of the wiki you are interested in can be understood without translation.) Therefore, I don't think the Gazetteer of wikis needs to be translated. I think it is necessary to discuss what to do with pages other than the English version. I'm wondering whether to discuss with CN or RfC.thanks.--松•Matsu (talk) 02:25, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@: It's a good argument, and I'm personally indifferent on maintaining or discontinuing translations of Gazetteer of wikis. We do have some multilingual wikis, for instance, so translations could be helpful, but they don't list their wikis as frequently in the Gazetteer. That probably needs a short discussion (lasting at least five calendar days) on community noticeboard. With a clear proposal and at least 5 people expressing view (other than the proposer), that should be sufficient. Though not required, I'd recommending drafting a proposal as a subpage of your userspace outlining the pros and cons and your rationale for how you arrived at your recommendation. Dmehus (talk) 02:30, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Thank you for your advice.I agree to create a user subpage because we need to discuss what to do with non-English pages. The title is "About the handling of each language of Gazetteer of wikis", but I would like advice if there is any good title.--松•Matsu (talk) 02:41, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry.Withdraw.It seems that it's better to think of a new page or wiki than to revise an existing page, which is working well.--松•Matsu (talk) 10:13, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for deleting the page.I chose to keep the status quo because I don't know if the newly created page will stay active even if the proposal goes well.It would be nice if there were more translators, but the current situation is not enough.By the way, I really like the features of your talk page on the test wiki and the summaries you created.--松•Matsu (talk) 12:22, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just lost admin access to my Wiki

Hello, while I was working on user groups for my Wiki, I accidentally deleted Arbitrator rights which made me manage the Wiki settings. Now I can’t manage my Wiki settings. What can I do? --Synoman Barris (talk) 17:03, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Synoman Barris: Is that the only user group with managewiki access? If so, you will need to have a steward attend your wiki. This is such a common sense case that I could ping them on Discord to re-add your right, without you going through the hassle of holding a local election. Dmehus (talk) 17:11, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Synoman Barris: Yes check.svg Requested on Discord for you. I see what happened; you accidentally removed all user rights from your top-level user group. Dmehus (talk) 17:18, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you are able to do a quick Miraheze confirmation edit to any page of any Wikimedia wiki from that account, that would be awesome. I'd like to grant your account autopatrolled on Meta, but given the low number of Meta edits, I'd have an easier time justifying it with a confirmation edit. Protection on Community noticeboard

Hi, thanks for protect the Community noticeboard but, if I remember, this would not preventing Revibot to archive dicussions because of "Allow only logged in users" ? 👀 HeartsDo (Talk || Global || Wiki Creator) 05:20, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

HeartsDo Apologies for the delay in replying, but as I'm sure you are no doubt aware from your patrolling, my user talk page tends to "blow up," so to speak, rather frequently. Anyway, yeah, I did note that at the time; however, it didn't make a lot of sense to me as Revibot is a registered user, so unless it inadvertently was not able to login, that shouldn't matter. In any case, as I suspected, it seems likely something else was the cause of the archiving problems, likely related to configuration of the autoarchive configuration parameters or perhaps using plain text characters instead of the unicode equivalents? Anyway, it seems to be okay. Dmehus (talk) 00:19, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm wondering if I should create a new wiki

I'm thinking of a narrower range than the template wiki. The wiki contains only a few templates that we really need to get started with the wiki.Ideally, just copy the dump file for this wiki and the wiki will start right away.thanks.--松•Matsu (talk) 16:34, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@: Can you define narrower range of Miraheze Template Wiki a bit more? We also have Miraheze Developers Wiki, which focuses on gadgets and user scripts, but lack of activity, really, has me contemplating a merge with Template Wiki eventually. Your idea of having a few essential templates to get started could be solved, I think, by creating a page in Main namespace, linking to the essential templates and describing their purpose. I wouldn't think there would be any issues with you adding templates to Template Wiki. As long as they have a clear Miraheze focus or use case, they should be allowed. If you need any additional permissions, such as autopatrolled or importer, let me know, and I can request them for you. Dmehus (talk) 16:45, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus:Thank you for introducing me to the wiki and I'll check it out.The reason I suggested it was because I would like to make it easier for people without knowledge of wiki templates, modules, and CSS to get started.I think copying the template in the template wiki is one solution, but I think there are too many templates in the template wiki. (i.e.It is necessary to understand the necessary templates and select only the necessary templates.) I find it difficult for wiki beginners to understand template dependencies. Miraheze can create a backup file for an entire wiki, so I think this feature will make it easier to get started with the wiki.--松•Matsu (talk) 17:31, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@: I'm not opposed to your idea, but I do think we could overcome this challenge by categorizing all templates included as part of a "template starter pack" category. Then, we could use a wikilink or external link to link to that Special:Export page with that category prefilled in the export solution. Whether on a separate wiki or Miraheze Template Wiki, they'd still need to use Special:Export. Nevertheless, if you still decide a separate wiki is required, I'll create it for you, with the stipulation that this be a community wiki, and that local bureaucrats can be changed either (a) locally on that wiki or (b) on community noticeboard by the global community. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 17:40, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: That's a nice idea.If we put it in a category, it seems easy to do. It might be nice to put the category "template starter pack" in the meta.--松•Matsu (talk) 17:50, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@: Yeah, I'd definitely be keen to link to the finished template starter pack on Meta. We would create a brief, not too long, page on Meta that describes, or even transcludes, the starter pack page on Miraheze Template Wiki to new wiki creators. We could then add a link to the starter pack on Miraheze Template Wiki on the default Main Page that is included on every wiki's creation. Would that be helpful? Dmehus (talk) 18:19, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: First of all, thank you for deleting the accidentally created page on the developer wiki and for giving me the necessary permissions to do the work. Well, your suggestion, I think it will be very helpful. Default Main Page already posted a link to the MediaWiki guide, but when I started the wiki I didn't know what I didn't understand in the first place. I tried to do what I could do with other wikis and introduced templates for other wikis, but it didn't work.In short, I didn't know the CSS, modules and templates needed for the template to work. Many editors don't think they are very interested in what tools are needed to make the template they are using work when editing. (i.e. They aren't interested in MediaWiki features themselves, they often want to edit them conveniently.) Therefore, the "template starter pack" list is very helpful for users who have their own wiki for the first time. If there is any addition to your suggestion, it would be to add a link to this guide in the "But Miraheze, I still don't understand X!" Section. This guide will give you a better understanding of "X!".(Just joking);-)--松•Matsu (talk) 03:48, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I understand just thought a simple news wiki would work. That's all. Hrvcfr (talk) 22:30, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hrvcfr: That's fine, and it may well be a great idea for a wiki, but as of now, you have 9 edits on one of your wikis and 13 on the other one. In total, you have 75 global edits. As I stated in the wiki request, I understand, but I would rather see you work on your other two wikis and help out on other wikis first. Give it 30 days and come November 13th or so, you can go back into Special:RequestWikiQueue/14750 and rerequest this wiki. How does that sound? Dmehus (talk) 22:38, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's good but no one has contributed to my vgs wiki yet. Hrvcfr (talk) 22:40, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Hrvcfr: And they may not, to be perfectly honest. As I said on your user talk page, creating and editing informational wikis can be a very solitary activity, edited only by you and, sometimes, a few friends or colleagues. Eventually, if your wiki has significant content made to be read by people, the content, invariably, will bring readers and, in turn, contributors. Dmehus (talk) 22:53, 14 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: sorry again Doug but I love travel and would contribute a lot to the travel guide miraheze if created. Just asking not expecting anything since news wiki got declined. Thnx. Hrvcfr (talk) 08:09, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Doug you around??? Hrvcfr (talk) 23:15, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fairly busy with Miraheze community-related things. I would suggest try asking on Discord. Regarding your travel guide, I would strongly recommend against it. You do seem to be creating wikis for the sake of creating wikis. A wiki with no or little content is hardly a wiki. Dmehus (talk) 13:17, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but I'm frustrated. Hrvcfr (talk) 20:35, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What is your opinion on --Iron Sword 22 (talk) 18:31, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Sword 22 Apologies for the delay in replying, but just wanted to drop you a quick note to say I am unlikely to be able to review your wiki any time soon. I will just note, though, that when users request a Wikipedia fork wiki, I frequently try and refer them to your wiki, Ingenpedia, Callipedia, and various other good-faith Wikipedia fork wikis. @Hrvcfr: You probably just got logged out for some reason. Perhaps one or more of your Miraheze web browser cookies was deleted, or there was some other technical reason you were logged out. Did you make any edits while logged out on your wiki? If so, you can either (a) revision delete them once you are logged in or (b) e-mail stewards(at) to request oversight. Likewise, as to your apparently editing my user talk page while logged out, I have now revision deleted the appropriate revisions, but can request those be suppressed, if you wish. @Hrvcfr: Thank you for your question. Please note that we're all volunteers and wiki requests are reviewed as quickly as possible, based on the available supply of donated volunteer labour and the demand as indicated by the volume of wiki requests. Note, too, requests are not necessarily reviewed in the order received, but other factors as well, including language of the request, completeness of the description, existing notes on file and on the requestor's talk page, and so forth. Having said that, I have reviewed your request, and declined it per the discussion on your user talk page. Further discussion will likely be forthcoming on your user talk page, so you are encouraged to reread that page in advance of further communication. I need some assistance. I'm on Template: Captain America right now and I created it, but when I save the edit Template: Navbox is there. Can you help with that? --Iron Sword 22 (talk) 20:15, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Iron Sword 22: On which wiki, and do you have a Discord account? While not essential, for these sort of questions, you'll find a larger, helpful community ready to answer these sort of questions. Dmehus (talk) 20:26, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's on and I don't have discord --Iron Sword 22 (talk) 20:27, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Iron Sword 22: Well, you might want to consider looking into Discord. Anyway, I had a look Template:Captain America, which is calling Template:Navbox on your wiki. It's a wanted template. You deleted the latter, so you may just need to restore that navbox template. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 20:38, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I did and I'm still having issues. --Iron Sword 22 (talk) 20:40, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Iron Sword 22: I see you've recreated, or restored, the navbox template on your wiki, which is good. Looking at the older revision prior to your blanking the template, I see that Template:Navbox is calling Template:Navbox, which is why you're getting the "template loop detected" error. Wikis are really sub-optimal, though, for these sort of technical support questions requiring a lot of back-and-forth, so I do strongly encourage you to consider joining our Discord server. Dmehus (talk) 21:11, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I can still ask for assistance sometimes? I can still send a message to you on your talk page. So I am blocked from creating wikis I mean requesting. Thnx. Hrvcfr (talk) 23:04, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hrvcfr: To be clear, you're not blocked, but if you request a wiki before the expiration of your Meta editing restriction, that is something that could occur. So, please just don't request a wiki before 23 November 2020, and you will be fine. You are also not prevented from asking for help with your wiki(s), but you are strongly encouraged not to ask for help on one or more users' talk pages, and instead ask clear and specific questions in #general on Discord or to use the help me template on your talk page. Preferably Discord as it is really better for these sort of things. Hope that clarifies. Dmehus (talk) 23:13, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I left you a message on Discord. --Iron Sword 22 (talk) 01:01, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Special:MyLanguage to Main Page

Hi, could you add Special:MyLanguage to MediaWiki:Mainpage? This will add Special:MyLanguage to the main page links in the sidebar and logo and all other places the system message is used. --Raltseye (talk) 04:12, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Raltseye: Sorry about that, yeah, I hadn't forgotten, but didn't you mean you wanted tvar and Special:MyLanguage added to the Miraheze page as well? Also, while this is Yes check.svg done, I thought I remember you saying we should avoid adding Special:MyLanguage to interface messages? Dmehus (talk) 13:22, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and yeah, tvar tags on Miraheze would be preferable to the translating process. I don't remember discouraging the use of Special:MyLanguage on system messages. Maybe I have and if so I don't remember the occasion nor why I thought/said so in the first place :/ I don't think there's any trouble with doing so, I tried it out on my test/personal wiki, and it worked straight away there without any fuss. None of the Wikimedia wikis use Special:MyLanguage on their links though. The links work here so I don't see any immediate faults in the system. It works uninlogged tto as far as I can see. Anyway if it doesn't work in some other way that will turn up I suppose. --Raltseye (talk) 17:27, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Raltseye: I did the change nonetheless anyway, and I think we might be going to leave it in place. There was some issue with it redirecting anonymous, logged out users, but @Southparkfan: has made a technical change in ManageWiki that should solve that. I'll try and do the tvar tags in the next while. Dmehus (talk) 17:32, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the system redirected me to the German subpage uninlogged for some reason, was that the same issue? --Raltseye (talk) 17:58, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sabelöga Can't remember, but I'd say unlikely. Dmehus (talk) 00:22, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template documentation

Hi Doug, I have implemented a template documentation in the publictestwiki for demonstration purposes. To these two templates I have added the documention Template:RfP/boilerplate Template:Draft-section so you can see how it looks like. If you think this is useful I (or anyone else) can copy the template and the associated module to other Miraheze wikis. I have translated the text that is displayed in the template pages but not all the comments in the module, a native speaker may improve the translation. Before I spend a lot of time for translating the German comments to English I will make sure that this feature is wanted on Miraheze, if not I will save my time ;-) Lily (Manuela) (Lilypond Wiki · talk and I will listen · my little garden ) 17:18, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Raltseye: That sitenotice is done through our GitHub repository, so it may be possible to translate it, but it's just a temporary sitenotice, so there's probably not too much point in this case. In fact, I think @Reception123: may be going to take it down today, actually. Dmehus (talk) 15:34, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My wikis are going nowhere fast. Why no one shows up? Hrvcfr (talk) 15:26, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hrvcfr: How much content does your wikis have? Do your wikis have an aesthetically appealing and user friendly appearance? If you feel those are adequate, you can join us on Discord, and ask for suggestions on ways to drive volunteers and readers to your wiki, or ask for a critical assessment of your wiki. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 15:33, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how to ask for support on Discord or on here. Hrvcfr (talk) 04:44, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can I reason with you? My editing skills aren't the best. But if you give me a goal/topic where I can write good content on a new miraheze I will do!!! I can write good pages, I just need to write as much as possible. Hope to hear from you. Hrvcfr (talk) 21:25, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hrvcfr: The issue isn't really your wiki request descriptions, which are usually not that bad actually. It's just the frequency by which you are requesting wikis, and that you make a few edits on them, then give up and request a new wiki. So, that's why we put in place a governor on your wiki requests, allowing you to request a new wiki on the topic in which you're most interested in and in which you'll edit the most, with or without the involvement of others. On or around 21 November 2020, you should be able to request another wiki, as your restriction will be elapsed. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 21:46, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

About the Requests for adoption

@Dmehus:I confirmed the existence of a Japanese translation page, but it seemed that the header of the Requests for adoption was not specified in the translation, so I would like to ask about meta's policy.--松•Matsu (talk) 23:34, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@: Thank you for the question. This looks like a recent translation, and one not done with the Translate extension, so I will go ahead and delete it. In theory, we could translate the headers, but I'm not sure that would any good, as I'm not sure how that would work with transclusion on requests for adoption. As well, it may inadvertently encourage people to try translating the noticeboards. Dmehus (talk) 01:31, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Thank you for teaching me. Do you want to remove the translation tags added to the header?--松•Matsu (talk) 01:40, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm wondering if we happen to have Twinkle on Miraheze. If we do, great! If we don't, it might be something we may wanna look into for the future. User:BlackWidowMovie0/signature 16:53, 6 November 2020 (UTC)

@BlackWidowMovie0: Twinkle is a gadget, which is a community-maintained script, essentially, and, as such, is required to be installed and configured on every wiki. We had it on Meta, but it's apparently broken with the upgrade MediaWiki version 1.35. It may be restored in the future, but will likely require a lot of configuration to make it work again. It's on our medium- to long-term radar, at least for Meta, I would think. Dmehus (talk) 17:12, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Separately, would you mind fixing your signature to remove the line break between your signature and the timestamp? I tried looking at User:BlackWidowMovie0000Editor/signature, but couldn't see anything obvious. It may be controlled/set in your preferences. It's breaking talk pages. Dmehus (talk) 17:15, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I have no clue how to fix it either. I'll check, but I'm not sure what's causing it. User:BlackWidowMovie0/signature 18:45, 6 November 2020 (UTC)

Discord Ban & Signature Line Breaks

They denied the unban for now. I told them I'd ask around end of November. Also, no clue what's causing the line breaks for the signature. It doesn't do it for Universal Omega, so I'm not sure why it's doing it for mine. User:BlackWidowMovie0/signature 23:52, 9 November 2020 (UTC)

@BlackWidowMovie0: Okay, thanks for the update. Regarding your signature, what do you have specified in your new signature field of your personal preferences? Dmehus (talk) 00:03, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: This screenshot is what I see. User:BlackWidowMovie0/signature 00:11, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@BlackWidowMovie0: Okay, I want you to try two things in sequence. First, I want you to change SUBST to subst and also update the location of your signature to User:BlackWidowMovie0000Editor/signature, the actual location of the signature, rather than the redirect. Try signing your post in Meta:Sandbox, and see if there's a line break still. If that doesn't work, then try changing it to , and try signing a post in Meta:Sandbox again. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 00:21, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Check Meta:Sandbox now. User:BlackWidowMovie0/signature 00:31, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have provided evidence on both the Stewards noticeboard and on Discord in case you're wondering. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 15:41, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm getting there. I generally work my way through in a fairly logical order, combined with the length of time needed. @Dmehus: Thanks. I'll be patient, even if it has to be an hour or something. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) 15:54, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So what you guys are telling me:

SCVSlalom was actually BlackWidowMovie0000Editor? No wonder Zppix placed a lock on that account. Didn't mean to place it on his talk page. I just had no idea where else to say it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DarkMatterMan4500 (talkcontribs) 15:31, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@DarkMatterMan4500: Firstly, Zppix did not lock the account to which you're referring; that was done by a steward, NDKilla. Secondly, I'm assuming I've answered your question at your user talk page. Let me know if anything is left unaddressed or unanswered. Dmehus (talk) 15:38, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hrvcfr: Okay, that's great. Thanks for the update. I think it's only another 6-7 days until your restriction will be lifted, and you can create another wiki; however, please do try and be responsible about requesting wikis (i.e., no more than one new wiki per month) as it is very difficult to build and maintain too many wikis. Abuse of power

Dmehus, I blocked BlackWidowMovie0000Editor off of Disney Wiki because of his behavior yesterday, and now he goes back and blocks me and power abuses. I don't want this block to ruin my reputation at Miraheze and would like to know what would you recommend doing? I am pretty sure the wiki has policies towards this kind of stuff but would like it if you could possible give me advice in this situation. He has been nothing but a pain to everyone at Miraheze and I think the block I issued was necessary but I am concerned about him blocking me for no reason. Please give advice? --Cocopuff2018 (talk) 17:01, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am also going to mention his behavior on other wikis such as Disney Wiki other wikis have been very concerning lately towards the community and quite disruptive, I am at the point where I need advice of how I am going to deal with this. I have attempted many many times to assume good faith towards him and give him chance after chance but every time I do that he throws my trust in the trash, him unfairly blocking me is concerning to me, and so is his recent behavior on Disney Wiki including lying and attempting to take over a wiki that does not belong to him. --Cocopuff2018 (talk) 17:04, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
May I also point out that the block he put on me is not true and is a lie, I did nothing to deserve this block. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cocopuff2018 (talkcontribs) 17:07, 18 November 2020‎ (UTC)[reply]
If you ask me, I can provide tons of proof against this user. --Cocopuff2018 (talk) 17:34, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cocopuff2018: Whether your local block was unjustified on Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki, I would suggest engaging privately with the other bureaucrats on that wiki. In all honesty, though, I do think it's best for the two of you to block each other from your wikis, as you seem to not be able to get alone. As to concerns of reputational damage, I will just say this, we do not generally put much, if any, stock in local blocks on customer wikis. What does concern us behaviour on Meta Wiki, Miraheze Commons, Miraheze Template Wiki, and the like. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 17:54, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I am not communicating to Cocopuff2018 here, but to you. I would be open to the idea of an unblock from mcuwiki and starwarswiki, pertaining that a formal appeal is filled out on mcuwiki, and on starwarswiki it is requested on Discord or IRC. I would set an editing restriction, for 14 days, but more details can go into that when the appeal is done. Again, I am NOT communicating to Cocopuff, but to you, Dmehus. 18:00, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
@BlackWidowMovie0: Your continuing to reply to this thread from Cocopuff2018 is problematic and a technical breach of your in force interaction ban on Meta. I will just say you should see this and this. While your changes were made in good-faith, the fact of the matter of is you made a change to Cocopuff2018's posts. If it had been to any other user's posts, it would not not be an issue. That is my concern. If you wish to raise the matter separately, you should start a new thread on my talk page, and not reply to this one. Dmehus (talk) 18:06, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dormancy Policy exemption for wiki

You can enable Exempt from Inactivity in my dragonpedia this wiki?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 02:21, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Msnhinet8: I will have a steward assess the content on your wiki and action this request, hopefully tomorrow. In future, for other wikis, stewards' noticeboard is the best place to make these requests. Also, I have moved your question into a new section. Dmehus (talk) 02:53, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ok, thanks.--Msnhinet8 (talk) 02:58, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In addition my flow is not work in my wiki, can you help me?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 13:07, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Msnhinet8: Regarding your Dormancy Policy exemption request, it will not happen instantly, but a steward will review it as soon as they can. Regarding your other question, you'll have to be more specific than that, I'm afraid. Are you able to come on either Discord or IRCCloud (channel #miraheze for specific troubleshooting with Flow (StructuredDiscussions))? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 14:38, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Query Regarding My Wiki Request

Hello, thank you for approving my wiki request. I am a little confused to see that you updated it before approving. Could you please tell me what you updated? Thank you very much. R4356th (talk) 14:46, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@R4356th: Creation is not instant, and we've been having a fair number of wikis we've ended up having to reapprove lately, rather than wait several hours sometimes for the jobrunner to create the wiki. So while it's only been a few minutes, I will go ahead and reapprove this. Dmehus (talk) 14:52, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@R4356th: What I updated was your category, which I selected as private, rather than have it be an uncategorised wiki. Sorry, I should've mentioned that, and you can change it in Special:ManageWiki once it is created, if you wish. Dmehus (talk) 14:53, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Sorry for not selecting Private as the category; I did not notice it was there. (And I was not complaining about my wiki taking time to be created, it actually got created pretty fast.) R4356th (talk) 14:59, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@R4356th: Oh, okay, no worries about the category, and my apologies as I did misread your initial question at first (hence why I had to answer the question about the edit I made to your wiki request subsequent to my initial reply.) Anyway, glad we got it all Yes check.svg sorted out. Dmehus (talk) 15:02, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Query Regarding Translation Administration

Hello, when I mark a page for translation after editing it to add a <tvar>, should I make it so that the translations are not marked as outdated or not? Thank you very much. R4356th (talk) 12:14, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@R4356th: I didn't actually know the answer to this question until just now, actually, as I've just seen @Sabelöga: mention this at User talk:RhinosF1. I haven't confirmed it with the help or manual pages, but it does seem reasonable, so I will say, Yes check.svg sure; SGTM. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 14:33, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thank you very much. R4356th (talk) 14:35, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I can't remember where I've read this, but it does work like that in practice anyway, and the way those units weren't marked as outdated here the corresponding units had to be marked as updated manually. So taping that box surely is beneficial I'd say if there's no reason that the unit should be marked as outdated that is, like in this case. This is also one of the benefits of having tvar tags in the first place, so that if a link is changed, they don't have to be changed in the translations too. --Sabelöga (talk) 14:39, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Last wiki for awhile.

I want to create one more wiki that I will dedicate to. Doug, when on Monday can I request? Eastern time here. Thnx.

Hrvcfr (talk) 02:57, 23 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hrvcfr: I did say thirty (30) calendar days from and inclusive of 23 October 2020; however, seeing as you've asked first, a few hours difference isn't going to make a huge difference. You can now request a wiki, but please remember to articulate a clear purpose, scope, and topic for your wiki in approximately two to three complete sentences. Vandal on Template Wiki

Could you maybe block the vandal Smn on the Miraheze Template Wiki? --Sabelöga (talk) 23:14, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Sabelöga: Yes check.svg User blocked indefinitely on Miraheze Template Wiki as a result of their blatant vandalism and disruption. Thank you also for your reversion of their vandalism, and for deleting a couple nonsense page creations. I meant to tell you that on Miraheze Template Wiki and Miraheze Commons, the translationadmin user group includes the delete user right. This is mainly for deleting poor or long unmaintained translation subpages, but in common sense cases like reverting blatant vandalism, please do feel free to use that user right. Thanks again. Dmehus (talk) 23:53, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I realised that after awhile, though I'm a little split about [Category:Redirects from moves] since that category is actually populated.. It was created by a vandal so it makes sense, but maybe it should be recreated as a serious category? --Sabelöga (talk) 00:00, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Sabelöga: Sure, yeah, I have no objection to you recreating that category as it could be useful. I would suggest Category:Redirects as a parent holding category, which should contain only subcategories, under which all various redirect categories would exist. Dmehus (talk) 00:04, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense, thanks! Sabelöga (talk) 00:18, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

interwiki hyperlink

Because when I put the language link, it says that I am not allowed to do

The message below: "You do not have the permissions needed to carry out this action. You are not allowed to perform the action you have requested ". --Xaosk (talk) 00:43, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Xaosk: Would you mind clarifying on which page you are trying to perform this action and, additionally, what do you mean by "put the language link"? Only interwiki administrators (and stewards, of course) may add interwiki prefixes and interlanguage prefixes to customer wikis' interwiki tables. You can request to be a local interwiki administrator on each wiki, but this requires conducting a local election and meeting the local interwiki administrator requirements. I'm happy to add any interwiki or interlanguage prefixes you require, but I first need to know what you mean by your request above. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 01:00, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
But I can't put myself as an interwiki administrator. Is in: Groups you cannot change
In the sidebar there is: in other languages, and below, add links --Xaosk (talk) 02:14, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosk: Yes, that is because local interwiki-admin is only granted by stewards for technical and security reasons to local bureaucrats on a wiki upon their successful local election and provided they have made at least 500 edits on the local wiki and that they've had a Miraheze account for at least two weeks. So, I can definitely add an interwiki prefix for you, but I need to tell me the prefix(es) you want, the exact URL(s) for each, and whether or not you need the forward and transclude flags enabled. Dmehus (talk) 02:27, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The wiki in the version in another language has 3,600 editions, 253 pages and has been active for over a month
What prefix is it? The site prefix? the English version is "buseswiki" and the other is "onibuswiki" --Xaosk (talk) 03:04, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosk: So I'm not quite sure what you want to do here. I recommend reading Extension:Interwiki and linked help pages, as a start. But basically, I can add an interwiki prefix for either wiki that you can link to from each wiki, as say buseswiki:pagename and onibuswiki:pagename, or if onibuswiki is the non-English wiki, you could have onibuswiki as an interlanguage prefix of buseswiki like buseswiki:langcode:pagename. But, as I say, I do recommend reading up on this a bit more. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 04:44, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't understand the text very well, maybe I can understand what you said, but if you can add a prefix, thanks

Two things

  1. It seems that adding TOC right on Tech:Server admin log did cause unforeseen issues...
  2. I was marking Category:Finance for translation when I saw that Category:Finance/ja already had been created. Now, is this a problem? I believe it can be as I don't know how Extension:Translate will react to it when there's already a page with that name. Could you delete it so I can finish the translation? Just in case. --Sabelöga (talk) 04:08, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  3. I also wanted to add Category:Board on Board/NDAs, if it weren't for the abuse filters. --Sabelöga (talk) 04:24, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Sabelöga: Regarding TOC right, I see what you mean, but for now, I think it's fine. We can always just correct the TOC right. Regarding Category:Finance/ja, I will delete that right away. As to adding Category:Board to Board/NDAs, this is a very minor detail, and I am fine with the latter remaining uncategorized for the time being. I will try and add this over the next month or so, but I do have some more pressing things to attend to. So, let's not worry about that for the time being. Hope that's no problem. Dmehus (talk) 04:35, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's not that pressing so no worries, take your time :) Sabelöga (talk) 04:36, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Upon further inspection I also realised that Category:Finance/bn, and Category:Finance/fr exists.. How I missed them in the first place I don't know, anyway, could you also delete them, please? Sabelöga (talk) 04:39, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Sabelöga: Okay Yes check.svg great, thanks. Those manually translated categories are now Yes check.svg deleted, too. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 04:48, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Exemption dormancy policy for Vaccabolario wiki: thanks!

Hi Doug, sorry it took way too much time but I wanted to thank you very much to have helped about putting my micro(nano?)-wiki (Vaccabolario) to the admins' attention for Dormancy Policy exemption: it means a lot to my little project and, now, I'm free to add much more contents ("mass update" step) to this wiki, being certain my time and efforts won't be trashed, I owe you!

I tried to use the "ping" mechanism, to avoid cluttering your pages... but I failed, so here I am. :) --ElweThor (talk) 18:59, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global ban for BlackWidowMovie0

What exactly would you think of a global ban for BlackWidowMovie0? It's been on my mind to request a global ban for a while, but as you blocked him on Meta and TestWiki, I would like your feedback.Justarandomliberal (talk) 12:33, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I would support a Community vote for this I do wanna say he has caused a lot of issues and etc, so I am all up for this, and plus he copyright pages off of other wikis. -Cocopuff2018 (talk) 15:48, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Justarandomliberal While we do not have a formal policy regarding community bans, there have been several instances in which the community has proposed a ban on specific individuals that egregiously abused multiple accounts per user accounts policy (that is, multiple confirmed sockpuppet accounts and other methods to transgress locallly or globallly applied sanctions). I personally don't love community bans that much, as they can tend to invite pile on !voting, rather than a substantive debate on potential alternatives. Moreover, I don't feel a community ban would be needed in this case. The user in question is indefinitely locally blocked on Meta Wiki due to their disruptive editing, and they've been warned by a steward to stick to using only the one main account and their bot account. As such, the sanctions are working as designed and intended—to limit the user to other Miraheze user wikis, chiefly their own wikis. Hope that helps. Miraheze Wiki in search engines

Hello, just out of curiosity I am asking this, more interestingly, the wiki never appears in search engines, and it has almost two months of activity with 250 articles, more so curiously under search engines. Will it be poor hosting or an error of mediawiki sites?

Volunteering at Meta

Hello there. How exactly do you think I should volunteer at Meta? Miraheze is just getting bigger, and needs more people to handle things. Kind Regards, Justarandomliberal (talk) 03:26, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Justarandomliberal Well, typically, one would normally start by volunteering and answering questions on community noticeboard and, optionally, on Discord and IRC as well to the best of their ability. Following that, typically, a user will either be invited by a Meta administrator to volunteer as either a Meta patroller or they could engage with an existing, experienced Meta wiki creator who will ask them a series of questions that demonstrate their understanding of Content Policy. When that's satisfied, they can either nominate themselves as a wiki creator at Meta:Requests for permissions or be nominated by their mentoring wiki creator. Hope that helps. redacted request

re special:diff/149942 saw your fix on the talk and mention of forwarding it to steward colleagues.

Just figured I would update that there's no urgent need for intercession as I was able to de-crat the users in question via alteration of permissions via ManageWiki.

It just required endowing the crat group with ability to de-crat (off by default) and uncratting them.

At that point so I don't accidentally un-crat myself or crat someone else unintentionally, I removed both permissions.

This means to do so later would require the added step of MW permission-changing which helps to promote flubs.

A bit of a dangerous situation though. I'm lucky I poked around on the left toolbar first because the rogue crat had re-sysopped themself and if they'd seen that first could've de-cratted me.

If you have multiple users with MW permissions in conflict then it's very much "first to the draw" it seems.

I am concerned though how one might easily set up back-door MW access by giving that to non-crat groups, or doing something strange like giving average users the ability to promote themselves to bureaucrat status.

Do you know if there is some kind of way to view a log of all ManageWiki changes to permissions (a "PermissionLog" of sorts) to check to see who did what and when, like one does via Log/rights or Log/block ? Permissions doesn't seem to be a field that Special:Log recognizes.

I'm guessing because this isn't a public log so it might require some other kind of command. ty 02:02, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Tycio: Per my comment at Meta talk:Bureaucrats, Okay, this is by design, as intentionally, stewards are supposed to be called upon to remove the bureaucrat bit from user(s) on the local wiki when requested on stewards' noticeboard. I was conferring with @Void and NDKilla: on the course of action to take. Though not great that you took the action yourself, as I feel like steward review of the circumstances between the local dispute would've been helpful, it's probably okay, and it's good you reverted the change in Special:ManageWiki/permissions. To your last question, you can view changes performed in ManageWiki using Special:Log/managewiki. Dmehus (talk) 02:48, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes check.svg Seen and handled. It's sort of an edge case; I wouldn't really say it's an acceptable username, but it's not made in bad faith, either. It's likely just created to provoke a reaction (i.e., trolling), so I have cautioned them on Meta Wiki and requested they file a global rename request. If no request is made within a reasonable timeframe, then a steward or Global Sysop can, in their discretion, lock the account, though they are not obligated to do so. But I kindly wanted to see the same theme on the main pages of the account creation and login pages, so that you will not lose the essence of the original theme created by us. I saw that you don't accept it for security reasons, but my theme was created through CSS:, so it will be safer than by script, and less likely to have malicious code. More than that is just for this wiki. Thanks --YellowFrogger (talk) 01:31, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! A person asked how to donate on Ingenpedia here. If you could help, it would be awesome! Additionally, thanks for accepting my requests of Ingenpedia and Ingentionary respectively! Regards, Integer (talk) 06:26, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Integer: They can donate via GoFundMe, Paypal, GitHub Sponsors and also Bitcoin. Please tell them to read Donate. R4356th (talk) 09:17, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Integer: Thank you for your kind words on your local user page on Meta Wiki, and for your encouraging users to donate to Miraheze in lieu of donations to your Ingenpedia wiki. That's much appreciated. I don't have much else to say other than what R4356th said, other than to say I actually already replied on your Ingenpedia user talk page. Hope that helps, and thanks again. @SHEKH: I assume from the above that R4356th has explained to you how to check your user groups on a wiki (via Special:UserRights/SHEKH on any wiki), so I'm just replying to say I have Yes check.svg deleted your Meta Wiki user page to show your global user page and Yes check.svg indefinitely creation protected the same per your request, ostensibly to prevent recreation. Reply on talk pages

First of all, sorry for pestering you with questions. However, I really wanted to know if it was possible to have the [reply] button on talk pages on Ingenpedia too. I think that having that button would make it a lot easier for new users to interact. Thanks in advance! --Integer (talk) 19:20, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Integer: That's Yes check.svg no problem. To answer your question, yes, that "reply" link is from the DiscussionTools extension, which can be enabled at Special:ManageWiki/extensions on your wiki. You will also need to enable VisualEditor and Linter, though, if I remember correctly. There is also Enterprisey's reply-link user script around which DiscussionTools was based, at least in part, that you could use instead of DiscussionTools. Dmehus (talk) 19:25, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! Thanks for your help! Integer (talk) 19:26, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes check.svg No problem. I also noticed that your Welcome template does not include a signature in the post and is still too Wikipedia-specific. You may want to add --~~<noinclude/>~~ to the end of your template to automatically include a signature and also manually add your signature on user talk pages where it is substituted. Dmehus (talk) 19:29, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That is true. I will do that right now. Thanks for the advice! Integer (talk) 19:30, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible to add a bot to a wiki? --SuperDuperEditor (talk) 22:31, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SuperDuperEditor Yes, definitely, you can add a bot (or more than one) to a wiki. It just involves you creating a second account for the purposes of your bot's use. You would then typically assign the bot user group, to prevent RC flooding. However, the tricky part is where is your bot hosted—on a Raspberry pi, on a Linux box, in the cloud somewhere, and in terms of actually coding your bot. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 22:35, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. Thanks for your help! SuperDuperEditor (talk) 22:37, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, Yes check.svg no problem. Dmehus (talk) 22:42, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
One more question actually. Say I wanted to add this bot. Would it be possible? It (of course) is in Python, and has appropriate documentation. Thanks, SuperDuperEditor (talk) 23:12, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@SuperDuperEditor: Yes, Pywikibot is probably the most common bot framework, and, indeed, Revibot runs on Pywikibot on revi's Raspberry pi. I have no idea how to set it up, though. However, seeing as you're just wanting to welcome new users, you may not need to use that bot script, as Miraheze has installed the NewUserMessage extension, which can be configured on-wiki using interface messages after you've enabled the extension in Special:ManageWiki/extensions on your wiki. Dmehus (talk) 21:51, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How do I add that the modified theme appears on the create account, login, or preferences pages?--YellowFrogger (talk) 23:54, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@YellowFrogger: Apologies for the delayed reply, and ordinarily you can modify such things in the interface messages; however, Godless Raven recently discovered from asking about this on the Miraheze Discord server that you can't modify the image(s) on Special:CreateAccount on his socdemwikiwiki. So, I'm pinging him here to see if he has anything else to add. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 17:00, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: What is bad when you use a theme modified by CSS and go to the create account / login page, the default theme is white, so you cannot use a white logo according to the modified theme. This also gives users an impression that the page is still loading and slow, and it also takes away the standardization of the site. the site: uses a light green theme in the background, so I won't be able to use a white logo because on the pages to create an account the theme is white, and I realized that this is from mediawiki
If you have a solution for this talk to me, --YellowFrogger (talk) 20:48, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@YellowFrogger: Unfortunately, I do not have a proposed workaround or remedy for this problem. So, I'm going to have to suggest that you instead either (a) create a new thread on community noticeboard that (i) links to your wiki and (ii) states clearly your problem and question(s) or (b) join us on either Discord or IRC at #miraheze connect or #miraheze-offtopic connect where you would state clearly your problem and question(s). If you choose IRC, I recommend you use either IRCCloud or a client, either of which will provide you a complimentary hostmask (cloak) to shield your IP address. Wiki Huliaipole was created. Thanks.
However, a number of problems arose.
@Usik64: Okay, Yes check.svg no problem. Your wiki request description didn't meet our requirements, but given you've had a wiki before and there was a clear language barrier issue, I made an exception and approved the wiki. Regarding your questions, when you change a wiki's favicon and logo, the change is not immediately visible. This is a cache proxy delay and is a Miraheze-specific issue. You should usually see them updated within 24-48 hours. I don't know what you mean about MediaWiki:Edittools. Special:Import should allow for the importing of an XML file. What is the file you're trying to upload? Also, when you import using Special:Import, make sure you use an interwiki prefix from your wiki's interwiki table, so the contributors' external wiki user pages are added. Assign edits locally where same username exists locally on Miraheze, if you wish. If you need any additional interwiki prefixes added, just ask. Is there anything else you needed, and was this the only wiki you wanted created? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 21:37, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Usik64: Alternatively to this suggestion to ask about this on community noticeboard, did you see my reply above? This may give you enough information to answer your question. If not, please see community noticeboard, or give me at least a couple weeks to try and research this question more for you. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 00:20, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

IP's can't edit

I don't know what I screwed up, but for some reason, you have to log in to edit Ingenpedia. I'm totally fine with IP's not being able to create pages, but it would only be fair to let them edit. Do you know what might be the issue? I don't see a place in "Manage this wiki's permissions". Regards, Integer (talk) 18:43, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Integer Hrm, are you sure? I've checked Special:ManageWiki/settings and you haven't enabled e-mail confirmation to edit, (edit) is assigned to the * group, and I don't see any issues with Special:ManageWiki/namespaces. What's the error message you receive when logged out? Dmehus (talk) 19:04, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Integer I had to check with @Reception123 and Paladox:, the latter of whom was able to find the issue. It's related to the EditSubpages extension. In this case, that extension is designed to, among other things, restrict anonymous editing. So you either have to (a) whitelist specific pages in MediaWiki:Unlockedpages as shown in the extension's informational page on or (b) disable the extension, if it's not useful to you. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 19:25, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, ok. Yes, the extension isn't useful for me, so I will disable it. Thanks for the help! Integer (talk) 22:29, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay, that's Yes check.svg great then. Thanks for the update! Dmehus (talk) 21:39, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How do I change my username?

I’m getting bored with my username and I want to change it, so how do I change it? --MarioGuy1 (talk) 4:35, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

MarioGuy1 Hi, you can request a rename on this special page! :) HeartsDo (Talk / Global / Wiki Creator) 07:43, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
MarioGuy1 Technically, yes, you can request a global rename at Special:GlobalRenameRequest as @HeartsDo: has pointed out; however, your saying that you have become "bored" with current username suggests to me you may be likely to request multiple renames this year. So I would like you to choose a nickname you can stick with for not less than the next twelve (12) months. Once I have that on-wiki confirmation, I will process your request. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 14:52, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: My requested name change will be the permanent name, so I promise I won’t change it again in less than 12 months, so I would like to do that name change please. MarioGuy1 (talk) 17:36, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Це буде копія для збереження контенту. Мене забанили на Вікії, а раніше понищили мої статті і шаблони, замінивши їх перекладом з російського проекту аналогічного спрямування.

@Usik64: Thanks for the added information. Accordingly, I have Yes check.svg created the requested wiki. Any additional clarity on what your wiki is about that you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks. In the context of obstacles

I'm very upset. Why am I blocked from I didn't do any editing there. I hope you ask User:Thrace. Thanks ~SHEKH (Talk) 08:26, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SHEKH: Please note that users can attach accounts to other wikis solely by visiting them while logged in. All users are not aware of this and consider the user who attached their account a spammer. There is not really much Stewards can do about this. Thank you. R4356th (talk) 12:04, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@R4356th: Well, that's actually an argument that Stewards, Global Sysops, or really any Miraheze community member can do in terms of educating Thrace about this, and instead simply not to block users who merely attach their account to a given a wiki. I'd like to find out what Thrace's reason for these blocks is first, so will refrain from commenting further until I hear from them. @SHEKH:, thank you for your question. See my reply to R4356th, which mirrors what I would've said to you. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 15:47, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could I possibly make an archive page for my User Talk page? DarkMatterMan4500(talk) (contribs) 18:18, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DarkMatterMan4500: Sure, which style? Permalink diff method like mine, or archive subpage like the noticeboards? Dmehus (talk) 18:20, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'd go with the second choice as the first one would feel a bit weird on me. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 18:21, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DarkMatterMan4500: Okay, sounds good, I'll do that now. Do you want Revibot to archive your talk page? If so, on what frequency? Dmehus (talk) 18:23, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DarkMatterMan4500: Not hearing back from you, I assumed the answer to the above was yes, and went with 14 days as an archive frequency, consistent with stewards' noticeboard, where you are most active and most familiar. This can be changed if you wish. For now, this is Yes check.svg done and Revibot should archive threads older than 14 days from today at the next interval (generally, around 23:00 UTC -08:00) tonight. Dmehus (talk) 18:31, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Of course I would've said yes anyways. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 19:50, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tell me: Why doesn't the MediaWiki page MediaWiki:Edittools work correctly? I insert the code as here: --Usik64 обговорення 18:44, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Usik64: Though this is mostly beyond my scope of expertise, I've also Yes check.svg partially answered this for you. It could be missing a template or module dependency. I wear a number of hats on Miraheze, and am not able to commit to a reasonable timeframe for researching this in-depth for you, so if you need any further assistance, see the advice I provided to YellowFrogger in the thread immediately above that thread, which would see him and, now, you create a new thread at community noticeboard with your specific problem and question(s), or even join us on Discord and IRC. This opens up potential respondents to a wider panel of subject matter experts. Hope that helps. Thanks! :) Dmehus (talk) 19:44, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Usik64: As I said above, I don't know what, specifically, needs to be done here. I could research it, but am quite busy juggling multiple priorities and tasks at the moment. Can you please create a community noticeboard thread, with a clear, concise section heading, and a specific, focused question on your problem? A volunteer should ask you fairly shortly. Failing that, please consider joining us on Discord or, alternatively, on IRC at #miraheze connect. I'm trying to change the file File:Favicon.ico I create in the icon generator, download, and the favicon does not change. The same with the logo. What am I doing wrong?

@Usik64: Oh, I see what you're saying. Essentially, yes, for favicons and wiki logos, you need to link to the URL of the image on To grab the URL, right-click on the image itself, and select "copy image address." Alternatively, copy and paste the into your sandbox or something on your wiki, except change it File to pseudo-namespace Media, and it should link directly to the image location on Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 18:53, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Usik64: It occurred to me that you may have also been asking about where an image, say File:Thank-you-word-cloud.jpg, occupies a given title locally on the wiki despite not being uploaded locally. This is because of an extension related to shared, global file repositories. In Miraheze's case, these can be hosted on either Miraheze Commons or Wikimedia Commons. If that's what you were asking about, you just need to upload a local image on the same title that locally overrides the existing global file. Hope that also helps. File:Мірахезе Лого.png
I would like to change this logo to my own. How to do it? Usik64 обговорення 19:38, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Usik64: There's no need to upload that logo, so I'm going to delete it. Instead, I have modified the wikilink include a preceding colon, which void the transclusion of the image, as we don't need it. In any case, can you please reread what I have written above? I think I've explained it quite well how to upload an image to your wiki, and all of the logistics that go along with changing your favicon or logo. Uploading is done in Special:Upload (on your wiki, or your shared repository wiki, if that's enabled), and changing the logo is done in Special:ManageWiki/settings (again, on your wiki). You can grab the image path using the instructions above. One more thing: your logo must be resized before you upload to 135x135px. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 19:45, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── The fact is that the instructions for creating a logo are mixed with the data on the favicon and are incorrect. I suggest to divide a part concerning a logo (above) and a favicon (below) in the following edition (I stepped down loading a logo and on these steps corrected the instruction)

To change the logo at your wiki, you need to go to Special:ManageWiki/settings and look for $ wgLogo in the Styling section. Create a logo in a graphics editor as an image with a .png extension of 135 x 135 px. Upload the resulting file to your project. After double-clicking on the image, go to (where X is the URL variable variable). Or right-click an image, select "Copy image location" or view the image on a new tab in your browser.

Copy this URL from the address bar (do not use http unless it is the only supported protocol; always use https where possible) and paste it into the Logo bar ($ wgLogo) of the Style tab instead of the default logo address. Click the Submit button to save the changes.

When you're done, be sure to clear the cache in your browser to see the updated image. Note that the change may not be instantaneous and may take a few minutes. Also, keep in mind that Apple mobile devices do not support all image file formats.

To change the icon (favicon)

If you want to change the icon (favicon) or icon that is displayed for Apple mobile devices, you need to look for the strings $ wgFavicon or $ wgAppleTouchIcon, depending on your needs in the same section. Favicon is created in a special generator as a 32 x 32 px file with a .ico extension. Free online icon generators are available when searching in your browser. Usik64 обговорення 20:35, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Usik64: Well, I'm glad that you got it figured out, and your instructions are certainly more detailed than my reply; however, I would like to correct you on a couple points. My instructions were not incorrect in any way. I did not touch on the finer points of which web protocol to use in the URL address bar of your web browser or which tab in Special:ManageWiki/settings, as I simply assumed that you would locate that in fairly short order, which, invariably, you did just that (so I was correct in that assumption). Please keep in mind that we're all volunteers here, including me, and that this my user talk page, which is fine for a bit of technical support, but is not designed to be a full on support forum. As I articulated above, the best venue for you to ask technical questions regarding your wiki is actually either (a) Discord, (b) IRC via #miraheze connect, or (c) community noticeboard, for a few reasons. Although you may be more accustomed to on-wiki support, you'll benefit from a larger, more active Miraheze community on Discord and/or IRC, who often answer questions within minutes. Moreover, as I don't know everything, you'll benefit from a more diverse pool of subject matter experts. I've been pleased that I've been able to answer as many of your questions as I can, but as I say, I don't know, and don't profess to know, everything.
To your point on my instructions being intermixed, I agree and disagree at the same time here. For starters, you posted multiple threads on my user talk page in rapid succession, and, within each thread, you asked both compound questions and questions on multiple things. So, I did my best to respond to each of your questions in as an orderly fashion as possible, but it was challenging given the circumstances. It's fine to ask me for assistance, but rather than try to resolve each and every one of your questions instantaneously, ask one or perhaps two questions, in a single thread, wait for my reply, and, once that's resolved, begin a new thread. Can you please try this for future questions you ask of me?
While your more detailed information is helpful information for other users, it will likely get lost in the archives when this user talk page is archived next, so will you consider copying that text over to a subpage of your user page here on Meta, to draft as a future help page, then ping me when you are finished?
Finally, you still haven't responded to my question of you on shared image repository wikis. Dmehus (talk) 23:48, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the creation of a file database

There is a possibility on Wiki: one wiki is a database of images for another wiki. This is done by helpers on request. Let's say wiki 1 is basic and wiki 2 is a child. Then all the files uploaded on project 1 do not need to be uploaded to project 2, it is enough to repeat the file name as it is written on wiki 1. Is there such a possibility on Miraheze?

And the second question. Is the multi-file download feature available? When transferring a project from another hosting, it will make it easier to transfer media files. --Usik64 обговорення 16:32, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Usik64: For your question, yes, it's possible for one wiki to serve as a shared image repository for the other wiki, and this was recently added to ManageWiki; however, it is a managewiki-restricted setting, so you will need a Steward to make this change for you. In this case, you're in the right place. I just need to know which wiki is to be the shared image repository wiki and which wiki will be using the repository. Also, are both wikis public wikis, or is one of them private? As an alternative to shared image repositories between two or more wikis, you can use either of the central, global image repositories, Miraheze Commons and Wikimedia Commons, provided that the images are, generally speaking, freely licensed (i.e., Creative Commons, public domain, or copyright exempt) and you give clear and accurate attribution and licensing information. Hope that helps.
As to a multi-file download tool, I'm not aware of any such tool, but perhaps @Reception123: is. There is, however, the MsUpload extension for mass uploading images to Miraheze. Dmehus (talk) 19:17, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Usik64: Noting you have replied to the above thread, have you been able to absorb my reply to this question, and what, if anything, do you need me to do? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 00:02, 7 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshot illustrating ingenwiki in Google web search result.png

As you can see here, Google shows the description for Miraheze in search results. This is great, but it may pose problems for SEO. Is there a way to show the contents of an article rather than the general Miraheze one? Thanks in advance! --Integer (talk) 17:37, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Integer: Have you tried either of the WikiSEO Add HTML Meta and Title extensions, which can be enabled in ManageWiki? Also, I'm going to migrate your screenshot to Miraheze Commons, the preferred location for image uploads rather than on Meta. Dmehus (talk) 17:41, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I have them both on, in fact. Integer (talk) 17:46, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I haven't played around with the first extension, so am not familiar with that extension. I've only played a bit with the second extension, and didn't have it working, but I didn't really try that much. If you still need additional technical support with the extension and configuration, please create a new thread at community noticeboard, linking to the most recent diff from this thread, for added and helpful context, and a member of the Miraheze community will be better able to assist you. Please make sure you identify what you've done, and what you're having difficulty with specifically in your thread. I could research it myself, and am happy to do that, but you may be waiting a week or two for me to research it and play with it a bit more. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 17:53, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks! Integer (talk) 17:57, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Integer: Yes check.svg No problem! Sorry I wasn't able to help you this time. I don't mind, and welcome, you continuing to ask questions or making other requests for your wiki on my user talk page. It's just this time, I wasn't able to help you as it's something I'd have to research further in order to help you. Hope that makes sense. Dmehus (talk) 18:02, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Deletion

I am new to Miraheze, and I was helping edit on a wiki called ingenpedia. If you have time, can you please help get the Articles for Deletion system get set up like Wikipedia? Currently it is not good, and the signature button doesn't come when voting, as you can see below Ingenpedia: Compared to Wikipedia:

Spiedini (talk) 00:14, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Spiedini: You can make a template like Template:Delete to set an Articles for Deletion-like system. As for a signature button, you can edit MediaWiki:Edittools on your wiki for this. This page can be a good example of that. R4356th (talk) 13:24, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@R4356th: Ok, thank you very much for your help Spiedini (talk) 14:37, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Spiedini: To add to what R4356th said, I was going to suggest adding <includeonly>--~~<noinclude/>~~</includeonly> to the end of your Articles for Deletion request boilerplate, to automatically add a signature. R4356th's suggestion is also a good one, though, and there's no reason you can't/shouldn't do both. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 17:05, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@R4356th: Will MediaWiki:Edittools control the signature button in the top WikiEditor tool menu, though? I thought it was only for the tools at the bottom of, or below, the WikiEditor. Dmehus (talk) 17:08, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I could not find any extension that adds a signature button at the top of the WikiEditor extension's tool menu which is why I suggested editing MW:Edittools as an alternative. It is possible that it is implemented by custom JavaScript. R4356th (talk) 17:34, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: @R4356th: Sorry for the extravagantly late reply, but neither option seemed to work for me. As for the <includeonly>--~~<--~~~~noinclude/>~~</includeonly> option, it didn't work for me, though it may just have been my fault for putting it in the wrong place. As for the MediaWiki:Edittools page, this is what happened, according to an admin there: Despite that, as you can see here,, the signature button doesn't come. I don't know if I am doing it the wrong way, but regardless, it isn't working.

Spiedini (talk) 21:25, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Spiedini No problem on the late reply, and sorry for my late reply as well. I don't know without looking into it more, unless R4356th may be able to answer this question? If not, please consider either joining us on Discord, linking to this request, on IRC at #miraheze connect, or, alternatively, asking the broader MediaWiki community at the MediaWiki support desk. Hope this helps. Dmehus (talk) 05:53, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

interwiki/interlanguage prefixes

@Dmehus: could you please set up interwiki and interlanguage prefixes on each of PetraWiki's wiki interwiki tables:

Also, who do I need to talk to in order to:

  • change the "Upload file" link of all PetraWiki's wikis to point to upload-site (as described here)?
  • use files in the other PetraWiki's wikis (as described here)? --Luka Ibrišimović (talk) 22:02, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Luka Ibrišimović: Sure, do you want PetraWiki English ( to be the master interwiki prefix, with en and hr added on (a) the other wiki or (b) all wikis? Also, will you require cross-wiki scary transclusion for any wiki? Dmehus (talk) 22:12, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I don't require transclusion for any of the wikis. Sorry, I didn't quite understand your first question, could you explain it to me little more? Thank you. --Luka Ibrišimović (talk) 22:31, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I would like each PetraWiki wiki to have interwiki link to other PetraWiki wikis. I would like petrawiki to be master interwiki prefix for English PetraWiki as well as en, and hr for Croatian PetraWiki, language wikis to have link to files and translate wiki, files and translate wikis to have links to language wikis, and files and translate to have link to each other. All wikis should have petrawiki (and en) for English PetraWiki. I hope that answers your question (if I understood you and interwiki links correctly). :) --Luka Ibrišimović (talk) 21:27, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Luka Ibrišimović Apologies for the delay in both replying to this message and handling it, but did you have a chance to take a look on all your wikis and see if the interwiki prefixes I added were all set up correctly? Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 00:41, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

When you or Void have a minute:

I'm so terribly sorry if this sounds like a broken record by this point, or make requests go any slower, but I have reported a user causing disruption on the Nonciclopedia Wiki via Discord. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 22:26, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DarkMatterMan4500: Please note that we are all volunteers and at the end of the day, we have our own lives and things to do. You need to be patient. Also, have you ever contributed to the wiki by adding or modifying any meaningful content? Please do note that things should preferably be left to the local administration when it is evident that they are active and you are supposed to be a member of the local community to request the CVT to take actions. I am not trying to be rude or something but hoping to make you understand that making requests on several places is not going to help you. Thank you. R4356th (talk) 22:35, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@R4356th: That was exactly what I was implying in this thread. And all I did on there was revert vandalism left by serial vandals, and that's it. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 22:38, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And by that point, you're right, and that I should've waited for them to respond whenever they get the chance. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 22:40, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Translation administrator flag

With the pasting of translation tags for various pages/templates, I wanted to be a translation administrator. Should I do that?

P.S.I noticed this is the 100th (excluding archive) of your talk page :)--   Waki285(talk|contrib|log|CA|Target|WUM/ja)(I am a wiki creator and translation administrator) 01:36, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Waki285: Alright, thanks for volunteering to be a translation administrator. You are an active Japanese translator, and could benefit from these tools. The most important things to remember, though, is (1) do not updated mark pages for translation too quickly (i.e., one page every five minutes is a good guideline to follow) and (2) never remove a page from the translation system. Instead, if you wish for a page to be removed, nominate it for deletion at Meta:Administrators' noticeboard. Can you please review the translationadmin guidelines, and advise me when you're finished, so I can grant rights? Dmehus (talk) 02:00, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: Yes check.svg Okay, I read the guidelines.--    Waki285(talk|contrib|log|CA|Target|WUM/ja)(I am a wiki creator and translation administrator) 03:52, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Waki285:, thanks! I'll take care of this in the morning for you. Dmehus (talk) 07:26, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just a note as I saw Doug reverted the change to the Guideline template. All usages simply should have needed TNT| adding at the start of the template and then it marking for translation and it should have worked. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 08:11, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Translate extension ignores local instances of languages/ and translate/. I see that the instances have since been readded, but I would note the difference here is they were added after the page was marked for translation, so that suggests the order of events may matter. Dmehus (talk) 16:49, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What you say sort of makes sense but I've had a long week and I'm not 100% sure I'm awake enough to debug the fun that is advanced uses of translate so I'm just gonna say yes. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 17:50, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RhinosF1: Ah, your direct message to me on IRC about being prepared for defcon1 level of emergency preparedness based on this week's events globally and/or locally makes more sense now. As to the bug, see the discussion below. I think we've Yes check.svg resolved why the tags displayed, but I do think it's an upstream bug, either in the extension or MediaWiki core, as I know the tags don't display on unprepared pages in other namespaces but they do in Template: and MediaWiki: namespaces. Dmehus (talk) 18:35, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Template & MediaWiki are handled in a weird and more complex way that takes a bit to get your head around but I'm sure a discussion upstream won't harm. Personal life and I used defcon 1 as a nice way of explaining it as a analogy that's easy to understand. Essentially, I'm expecting something will probably go very wrong at some point very soon. ~ RhinosF1 - (chat)· acc· c - (on) 18:38, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RhinosF1: Sounds good, and yeah, that's probably the case. Dmehus (talk) 18:40, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: MediaWiki will ignore languages / as long as you wrap it inside noinclude tags. As for translate, I believe it can be hidden in the same way as languages /. However, if you use TNT, you do not need to worry about these. Just dropping this here since I noticed me being indirectly mentioned. R4356th (talk) 18:00, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@R4356th: Well, they didn't, which is why I reverted it. Having said that, I don't see where I marked the template for translation. So, perhaps that's a minor-ish bug with MediaWiki core (which should probably be fixed, ideally) in that the tags display on unmarked templates, but not unmarked pages? Dmehus (talk) 18:20, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dmehus: I think that you need to mark pages for translation at first for the rendering to be fixed, if that is what you meant. R4356th (talk) 18:25, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@R4356th: It is what I meant, and I knew that. I just mean that I've observed adding translate/ and languages/ tags to non-template pages that haven't been prepared for translation, so that suggests there exists a minor-ish bug in certain namespaces. Hope that clarifies. Dmehus (talk) 18:31, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Waki285: Yes check.svg Done, and welcome to the team! Thank you for volunteering. Dmehus (talk) 17:18, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Happy new year

Hey doug! It's been awhile. Can I create a new wiki? Just confused on what it should be about. I will work hard on this one and won't abandon it. Thnx.

Hrvcfr (talk) 16:24, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Hrvcfr: You've definitely been more patient, and that's great; however, I had a quick look at your global contributions, and I can't see where you would've written about 15-25 content articles across your wiki, so I want to make sure that this wiki will not become another abandoned project. Thanks. Dmehus (talk) 16:27, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Hrvcfr: Please note that I have declined your wiki request. Unless Dmehus or another administrator says otherwise, this stays declined. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by R4356th (talkcontribs) 08:53, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lifting of Restrictions

Per this discussion which was closed on July 2019, I am prohibited from creating new RFC's until I appeal it otherwise. What are the conditions for me to appeal this ban? Or am I just banned forever? OwenFung87 (Talk) (Account information: contribs - logs - CentralAuth) 05:58, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@OwenFung87: What RfCs are you wanting to create? I would think we could probably at least modify your restriction to allow you to at least create draft RfCs as subpages of your own userspace, which would then have to be signed off by one or two administrators before moving live, but I'd want to discuss it with @Reception123: first. Did you possibly link to the wrong discussion, though? I don't see anything in that discussion that mentions an RfC topic ban—I just see a global one account limitation, which seems to be indefinite, and a prohibition on creating or requesting wikis about hypothetical Miraheze or Miraheze Meta Wiki scenarios in that discussion. Regarding Your Recent Revert of My Edit

Why did you revert my edit on User talk:SoyokoAnis without leaving any reason? R4356th Contributions Logged Actions Rights CentralAuth (talk) 15:16, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@R4356th: I've already left a reason as a dummy edit. I was in the middle of trying to undo your thread, which you modified instead of undoing. So, I would've had to either (a) undo seperate edits or (b) rollback. I added a subsequent dummy edit to provide the needed clarity. There's no need to pile on to the user's talk page with duplicate notes. Hope that helps. Dmehus (talk) 15:19, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
