  1. For some reason, the bold text on the left of the infoboxes that state what type of information is being shown is being centred. If you don't know what I mean, see the Abkhazia and Abkhazian War of Independence pages. In a previous thread, Tali64³ told me to add text-align: left; to the CSS page, but nothing changed.
  2. These templates do not work for some reason.
  3. The native name template that is used on this page isn't working for some reason.

@Tali64³: Hello? Money12123 (contribs | CentralAuth) 03:52, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
#1 appears to have been resolved. The other two I honestly have no idea how to fix; you may be able to get an answer by joining the Miraheze Discord server. Tali64³ (talk | contributions) 04:00, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Tali64³: #1 is not resolved, take a look at result on the Abkhazian War of Independence page. Money12123 (contribs | CentralAuth) 04:36, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

In the future, please refrain from doing this as it unnecessarily bumps the thread. Additionally, Tali64^3 has already redirected you to the Miraheze Discord and has stated they have no technical expertise on MediaWiki. --Blad (tcg) 22:50, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Blad: I'm aware of what I need to do for #2 and #3, it is just that they seemed to think that #1 was resolved when it was not and was curious if they knew how to fix that. Money12123 (contribs | CentralAuth) 22:58, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Also, what should I do instead of that? Money12123 (contribs | CentralAuth) 22:59, 20 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Simply stop doing it, as I explained, most of the time it's not needed. --Blad (tcg) 20:28, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Blad: But if they have not responded to my comment for over a week, they have surely forgotten about it. Money12123 (contribs | CentralAuth) 20:30, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Perhaps they simply have no answer to reply. --Blad (tcg) 20:31, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi. This discussion has quickly become redundant and irritating to all involved. Please move the discussion to the Miraheze Discord server, as suggested earlier, or to other venues such as user talk pages. Perseverating here will only serve to cause strife. BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 22:31, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I was going to do that anyway but okay. Money12123 (contribs | CentralAuth) 02:07, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Didn't receive email notification[edit | edit source]

Hello everyone,

I created an account last night, but I didn't receive an email notification to verify it. I did check my spam folder.

When I click on "create a new wiki," I get this message:

>Your email is not confirmed. To request wikis, please confirm an email first.

I'm able to log in, so my account seems okay. I don't see an option to resend the notification. Er, help? Kelly Aster (talk) 13:28, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok, I did find the resend option. I tried to resend the confirmation email and got this error:
Miraheze Meta could not send your confirmation mail. Please check your email address for invalid characters.
Mailer returned: Failed to connect to ssl://smtp-relay.gmail.com:465 [SMTP: HELO was not accepted (code: -1, response: )] Kelly Aster (talk) 13:33, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
where is the resend thing at this happening to me aswell Soija (talk) 15:55, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi, sorry for the delay, I was at work. This is the resend page: Special:ConfirmEmail
I did get a confirmation email, finally, but only after I removed my email address from my account and re-added it. I hope it's smoother sailing from here, because to be honest I'm kinda disappointed by the jankiness so far. I still have to request a wiki, so here goes.
This is the page where I removed my email address, btw: Special:ChangeEmail. If you remove your email like I did, make sure you have your password saved somewhere and are able to log in. Good luck! Kelly Aster (talk) 00:59, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If there are further reports or this is a consistent behavior I'd advise a task on phorge to put it on SRE's radar, especially including that error. If not this could be a one-off, which is still a shame and you shouldn't have had to deal with it. At the end of the day email systems are not pleasant and sometimes buckle for little reason at all... --raidarr (💬) 09:52, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi raidarr, thank you for the input, hopefully no one else experiences this and it was indeed an isolated event.
I must apologize for my cunty remark about "jankiness" and expectations; it was unfairly passive aggressive, and tbh at the time I was hoping someone would see that and feel compelled to respond. Yeah, that wasn't cool of me. I do realize this service is curated by volunteers and that actual human beings maintain it. Thanks again for checking in on us.

Special:Ask (Semantic MediaWiki)[edit | edit source]

Good morning. For some time now, there have been problems displaying results from the special 'Ask' page of the Semantic MediaWiki extension. Using {{#ask}} the results of the searches performed appear correctly, but if it is done from the special page, it indicates that there is an internal error. The wiki in question is https://esnaruto.miraheze.org/.

Somebody could help me? Thank you Yuusha Fuyuno (talk) 09:45, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, can you report this, including the full internal error, on Phorge? OrangeStar (talk) 18:27, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Miraheze Cookbook renaming RfC[edit | edit source]

I have created an RfC about potential wiki rename and redesign on The Miraheze Cookbook. Please see mh:cookbook:The Miraheze Cookbook:Requests for Comment/Wiki rename and redesign. Any feedback would be appreciated! Silicona (talk) 19:13, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just reminding that this RfC is a draft one. Silicona (talk) 19:14, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi, please note that as a general rule this portal is for global matters or mostly for asking for assistance with one's wiki. Advertising a local RfC pertaining to a local wiki matter isn't the most appropriate use. Reception123 (talk) (C) 20:30, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The renaming is required by @NotAracham so I created a draft RfC on that wiki. Silicona (talk) 21:22, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Understood, but community members may add their input on-wiki, it's unnecessary for the most part to advertise here on this topic. BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 04:59, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Please don't send it on Meta Community Portal. Gongxiang01 (talk) 06:26, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The mediawiki.org is not visible on China.[edit | edit source]

Now, we can't visit mediawiki.org on China.

There is the solution for this question:

  • Fork(copy) some useful article with mediawiki.org, but you "shouldn't to create a wiki to fork it" by Content Policy. Best is on Meta.
  • Do not use with mediawiki.org link(keep a few link to it)

In order to strengthen the management of computer information networks and international networking, and ensure the healthy development of international computer information exchange, China has formulated the "Interim Provisions of the People's Republic of China on the Management of Computer Information Networks and International Networking", which stipulates that "when computer information networks directly enter the international networking, they must use the international entrance and exit channels provided by the national public telecommunications network of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. No unit or individual may establish or use other channels for international networking on their own." If the above provisions are violated, the public security organs will order the cessation of networking, give a warning, and may also impose a fine of up to 15000 yuan; Any illegal gains shall be confiscated. Hi again,
I would like to clarify comments made previously by other users. We do not encourage violating laws, as it's in the name - illegal. I apologize for any comments previously that would've given that impression as that is not something that should be done.
Best,
BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 17:54, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In fact, there is currently no existing law in the mainland of China that explicitly prohibits circumventing the China network firewall. However, in the enforcement of the law, there have been cases where the use of the VPN to circumvent the China network firewall is deemed illegal (however, it could also be due to the use of the illegal VPNs. It goes without saying that there are legal VPNs in the mainland of China). In summary, this is a risky behavior and is not encouraged.--铁桶 (Talk) 17:58, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New Welcome Template[edit | edit source]

I don't think I'm alone in being unsatisfied by our current welcome template. It focuses excessively on creating a userpage and policies not super important (or welcoming) to new users. I know of users, including myself, that use their own custom welcome template for this reason. This is also important because scripts like Twinkle use the current Welcome template by default. I'd like us to discuss potential improvements so that new users can be effectively welcomed into the community. Globe - (TalkContributionsCA) 11:33, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Agree, and not just because Globe's welcome was remade using mine. For me, the current template seems bulked up with information that most new users don't care about, and even if they do it's delivered clustered and poorly. I used w:Template:Welcome and more so w:Template:Welcome cookie(funny enough the first and only welcome message I've got on enwiki) to make it seems as welcoming as possible for new users, while including some basic information. Personally, I believe the former is more important. There's no point in giving info if they don't feel welcome or engaged. If we make them want to stay and engage, they'll find their way to the information on their own. ╚pixDeVl╝ (Talk Board Contributions CentralAuth) 14:36, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Agree too. We can go and make it the default, but first I would like the template to be in the Template: namespace. OrangeStar (talk) 18:21, 18 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How to visit to the mediawiki.org[edit | edit source]

ATTENTION: Useless with VPN or Tor. Gongxiang01 (talk) 17:06, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi - please stop creating new threads on the same topic - you've done so in multiple venues now, including twice on this very page. Multiple threads do not need to be created in order to get your point across. Again, please stop listing messages in all caps, it gives the impression you are yelling. BrandonWM (talkcontributionsglobalrights) 17:44, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It is same topic?
  • In top topic, it saying the solution.
  • In this topic, it talking about how to visit.
Gongxiang01 (talk) 07:37, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Frankly, that's bunk and bs. This is the same topic and should be in the same topic, not a new one for a quick grab for attention for a problem no one knows how to fix. And from what I can see there may just not be a solution. If it's blocked in China for some reason and you don't want to use Tor or a VPN(TO BE CLEAR: I am not telling you to break the law) oh well too bad. If you really need something from it, you could kindly ask a willing volunteer if they would be willing to find the text for you. But do not continue to make new threads for the same issue and frankly wasting our volunteers time. ╚pixDeVl╝ (Talk Board Contributions CentralAuth) 11:57, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Citations errors[edit | edit source]

Hello. I need some assistance. While importing Wikipedia citations templates to the Knight N wiki (Knightn.miraheze.org), I keep getting Lua errors. I’m not sure what did I do wrong and I can’t identify the source of the error. Could someone please resolve the error? Thanks! Airtransat236 (talk) 14:49, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

e issue is you imported enwiki templates. Wikipedia's templates are a web of dependencies. You imported a template that uses a Lua module without installing the 15 required modules. You have to find and import those or modify the template to not need them. ╚pixDeVl╝ (Talk Board Contributions CentralAuth) 21:45, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Use source edit on a page using the template, then preview the edit. Below the edit window, click on the "Templates used on this page" dropdown arrow. You will need to create or import any templates or modules that show as redlinks in that list. –Jph2 (talk) 01:42, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Non-English Wikipedia interwiki links?[edit | edit source]

Right now, as far as I understand it, only the English Wikipedia is available via interwiki links. It would be nice to be able to link to other-language Wikipedia wikis as a multi-level interwiki prefix, e.g. w:fr:Page would link to Page on fr.wikipedia.org.

This would be particularly useful to wikis using the translate extension who link certain Wikipedia pages for style guides, etc., since they could be done with normal interwiki links instead of external links. LtDk (talk) 22:18, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Looking at Special:Interwiki we already have simple: for the Simple English Wikipedia. I'm not sure how long it would take to add all the others if it would need to be manual. ╚pixDeVl╝ (Talk Contributions CentralAuth) 22:27, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Community Directors nominations are open[edit | edit source]

The Elections Committee is pleased to announce that the first-ever elections for the WikiTide Foundation Board of Directors are now open!

The Board of Directors controls the WikiTide Foundation, directs their spending and organization, and oversees other aspects such as legal obligations (through Trust and Safety) and technical infrastructure matters (through Site Reliability Engineering). The WikiTide Foundation is proud to allow our users to have a say in these governance matters through Board of Directors elections.

At stake are up to four seats which the community may nominate to fill.

From now until April 10th, you may (self-)nominate a candidate who will run for a seat on the Board. You may also use this time to ask candidates questions. Eligibility guidelines for candidates are located here. All candidates must receive one statement of support (a "second") in order to be on the ballot.

Beginning April 11th, you will be able to vote for candidates through SecurePoll. We will announce when that time has arrived.

For more information on the elections, see Community Directors/Elections. Agent Isai Talk to me! 03:35, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
